"Marry me," Marcus said
Cass was dumbstruck, Was he mad? He asked her to marry him so casually like he was grocery shopping or ordering for an espresso.
Of course, she didn't dare ask that aloud after all he was her boss and the only one who had the power to hire her after the debacle that happened four months ago.
He had asked to see her about planning his schedule for the week and after ignoring her for five minutes he had dropped this bombshell.
"What are you talking about sir," Cass said in the softest voice as if she was talking to a child.
"You heard me, Marry me" Marcus reiterated
Marcus could feel the tension building in her as she struggled to keep her tongue in cheek.
This was one of the things that amused him about her.
Women usually fell at his feet, in fact, he had fired several of his personal assistants for trying to seduce him but Cass was always focused on her work and acted professionally even when he occasionally tried to flirt with her.
"I need a no strings attached marriage for three years after which you will be duly compensated," Marcus said
He could see her starting to object and most likely about to call him all the unprintable names she could possibly think of
"Before you speak, These are the terms of the contract" Marcus handed a document to her

Mr. Marcus Wells Miss Cass Thorton
Marcus couldn't fathom why he was apprehensive, any woman would sign immediately without expecting compensation but Cass had proven herself to be unpredictable.
After all, she was the woman who had run from his bed three years ago in France and even went as far as denying ever meeting him when he hired her as his assistant.
Cass was stunned $100,000,000 would change her life but a three-year contract marriage seemed too far-fetched even for her.
"Why me? There are a lot of women pining for you and would do this for free. In fact, you already have a girlfriend, so why not just seal the deal with her?" Cass inquired
Marcus smiled, She was as sharp as ever
"I hate the concept of getting married, I will not have any woman tie me down and use her emotions to manipulate me. That is why I want you, You don't seem to like me that much and neither do I so breaking the marriage will be easy don't you think?" Marcus said with a twinkle in his eyes
"Besides I already broke up with Amber two days ago to make it easier and seamless when I introduce you to my Father in a month" Marcus said lazily
Cass couldn't believe her ears, This man was as incorrigible as they came. This was the reason she knew not to respond when he kept flirting with her despite him making her heart flutter.
Sensing her hesitate, Marcus decided to reveal his hidden ace
"I will look into the Yolanda-RessexPharma case for you and you might be able to get into a law firm again" Marcus knew that was the icing on the cake.
Cass swallowed, She felt like she was making a deal with the devil. He knew how much she had lost because of the case.
In fact, that was why Cass had been unable to get a job in any law firm and had to accept a job as his assistant.
Well, What could go wrong?
"I accept your terms sir, can I get a pen?" Cass signed and looked up to see a devilish grin on Marcus's handsome face.
"What had she gotten herself into?"
Cass walked out of Marcus's office with her head high after signing the contract but her steps failed her immediately she stepped out. What just happened?
She banged her head on her table, How could she easily sign away three years of her life to Marcus no less?
Cass knew Marcus was going to take advantage of that contract and it was too late to back out.
She smacked herself on the face to be sure
She knew her sister Scarlet would ask questions not to mention her best friend in the world Amanda.
How was she going to explain to them that she was in a relationship and getting married when her ex-boyfriend Jake just broke up with her four months ago?
How did she get here? She shouldn't have gone on that trip to France three years ago.
FLASHBACK TO THREE YEARS AGO
Cass let out a deep sigh of relief as she closed her laptop. The bar exams were finally over. She had spent the last few months studying tirelessly for this moment.
As she walked out of the exam room, she felt a mix of emotions. On one hand, she was ecstatic that the hard work had paid off and she was now one step closer to becoming a lawyer. On the other hand, she was exhausted and needed a break.
As she walked through the bustling city streets, Cass's mind wandered to her upcoming vacation to France with her friend Amanda.
They had been planning this trip for months, and it was the perfect opportunity for Cass to take a break from her hectic life and celebrate her success. She couldn't wait to explore the country, try the food, and take in all the sights.
When she arrived at the café where she was meeting Amanda, she could see her friend waving excitedly from a table near the window.
Amanda had been Cass's rock throughout the grueling bar exam process, always offering words of encouragement, support and also taking care of Cass's sister Scarlet. Cass knew she wouldn't have made it this far without Amanda by her side.
"Congratulations, Cass!" Amanda exclaimed as Cass took a seat across from her. "I knew you would crush those exams."
"Thanks, Amanda," Cass replied with a grin. "I couldn't have done it without you. And speaking of which, I'm so glad we're going to France together. I need a break, this lady right here is tired."
"I'm so excited about this trip," Amanda said giggling "France is one of my favorite places to visit"
Cass smiled. "This is actually my first time leaving the country and I'm counting on you to show me all the best spots."
"Absolutely," Amanda replied. "We're going to have so much fun. I've already made a list of all the places we have to visit. The Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, the Palace of Versailles, the list goes on and on."W
Cass's eyes widened with excitement. "All of those sound amazing. And of course, we have to try all the food. I can't wait to have a croissant from a real French bakery."
Amanda laughed. "Trust me, the food is one of the best parts. We're going to eat so much cheese and bread, we won't even know what to do with ourselves."
Cass smiled, feeling grateful "I can't thank you enough for inviting me on this trip, Amanda. I never would have been able to afford something like this on my own."
"Hey, what are friends for?" Amanda replied with a warm smile. "I know you've been working so hard, and you deserve a break. Plus, it's always more fun to travel with someone else and who knows, maybe this trip will inspire you to get out often."
Cass laughed. "Let's focus on getting through this one first."
They spent the rest of their lunch catching up and making plans for their trip, both excited for the adventures to come. As they walked out of the cafe they were oblivious to someone staring at them maliciously.
Stacey wondered what those two idiots were giggling and yapping about. She hated that goody two shoes Cass with all her heart.
She saw Cass stand up to leave with her friend
"Girls let's play" She said to Liz and Riley who had been standing behind her
Stacey bumped into Cass "Watch your steps fool" Stacey said
Cass sighed, Stacey Richards was at it again, She had made it her life goal to ridicule Cass all year and had gone as far as spreading nasty rumors about Cass to make people hate her but it didn't work.
"Stacey, don't you have better things to do? You aren't a kid you know. Bullying doesn't look good on you, I think you need another hobby really" Cass said casually making sure her voice was heard by everyone in the Cafe.
Cass usually ignored Stacey but the stress of her exams and the annoyance she felt about her mood being ruined caused her to lash out.
Stacey looked around and was embarrassed to see that she was the center of attention, her father must not hear about this or she would get a earful.
"This is not the end of this Cass" Stacey whispered to Cass "I am so sorry for teasing you Cass, I had no idea you were in a bad mood" Stacey said aloud and left
"I don't know why she keeps picking on you and it's great you stood up for yourself today" Amanda said smiling
"I just got tired I guess, I didn't want to get in trouble but now that I am done I have no reason to hold back" Cass said with a satisfied grin
She had finally stood up for herself and she felt proud. Stacey's father was a prominent judge so it was wise to avoid her seeing as she wanted to be a famous lawyer herself.
"I have to leave, I have a date" Amanda said sheepishly
Cass said her goodbyes and left immediately
Cass stepped through the front door of her house, feeling a wave of relief wash over her. She was eager to celebrate her achievement and relax before diving into her career.
As she kicked off her shoes, she could hear faint footsteps. She immediately took the decorative vase at the entrance ready to pounce on whoever it was.
Suddenly she heard the faint sound of music playing and laughter echoing through the house.
"Scarlet?" Cass called out, recognizing the lively energy that could only belong to her younger sister.
The sound of footsteps came rushing down the stairs, and a moment later, Scarlet appeared in the hallway with a wide grin on her face.
Scarlet was the polar opposite of Cass-bubbly, spontaneous, and always looking for the next adventure.
"Cass!" Scarlet exclaimed, throwing her arms around her sister. "I missed you so much! How did the exams go?" She said excitedly "Why are you holding unto the vase?"
"I thought it was a thief" Cass said laughing awkwardly. The truth was that she had been spooked after her encounter with Stacey but she couldn't tell her sister.
Cass returned the hug, grateful for her sister's infectious enthusiasm. "They went well, Scar. I'm officially done with the bar exams!"
Scarlet's eyes lit up with excitement. "That's incredible! I knew you could do it! We have to celebrate!"
Cass chuckled, her exhaustion momentarily forgotten in the presence of her energetic sister. "I couldn't agree more. I have something else to tell you, though."
Scarlet tilted her head curiously. "What is it?"
Cass took a deep breath, deciding it was time to share her big news. "I'm going on a vacation."
Scarlet's eyes widened in surprise. "A vacation? That's amazing! Where are you going?"
Cass grinned. "France. Amanda and I have been planning it for a while now."
Scarlet's jaw dropped, and her excitement grew palpable. "France? Oh, Cass, that's incredible! I've always wanted to go there. The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, all the croissants! Please, please, please take me with you!"
Cass laughed at her sister's contagious enthusiasm. "Slow down, Scarlet! I didn't expect such a reaction. It's just going to be Amanda and me."
Scarlet's face fell, her eyes filled with disappointment. "But Cass, it's not fair! You know how much I love adventures. I promise I'll be the best travel companion ever! Please reconsider."
Cass felt a pang of guilt. She understood Scarlet's longing for excitement and new experiences. After all, she had always been the most fun-loving person in the family and loved spontaneity.
"Scar," Cass said gently, placing a hand on her sister's shoulder.
"I appreciate your enthusiasm, and I would love to have you there with me. But this trip has been planned for months, and it's just Amanda and me. I promise I'll bring back something special for you, though."
Scarlet's disappointment was evident, but she nodded, trying to put on a brave face. "Okay, Cass. I understand. But don't forget to bring back a huge slice of French cake for me and please have fun."
Cass couldn't help but smile at Scarlet's playful request. "Deal. The biggest slice of cake I can find."
As they continued their conversation, Scarlet couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions.
She was thrilled about her sister's accomplishment and the adventures that awaited her in France, but there was a hint of longing in her heart.
She wanted to be part of that journey, to create memories and experience new cultures alongside her sister.
A thought crossed Scarlet's mind, and she mustered up the courage to ask.
"Cass, is there any chance you could bring me back something more than cake? Maybe a small souvenir or a postcard? Something that would make me feel like I was there with you?"
Cass smiled, touched by her sister's request. "Of course, Scar. I promise I'll bring you back something special. You'll have a piece of France right here with you."
Scarlet's eyes sparkled with gratitude, and she enveloped Cass in another tight hug.
"Thank you, Cass. Please have fun, I mean it. Leave the responsible you at home go out and hook up with a French man. Just do that for me uh"
Cass squeezed her sister back, feeling the warmth of their bond.
"Who knows, I might do just that" Cass said with a giggle. After the death of her mother, she put off men to focus on her education. Maybe it was time to let loose a little.
She knew that even though Scarlet wouldn't physically be there with her, their connection would transcend the distance. And as she looked forward to her journey to France, She couldn't help but feel guilty.
"I have to make a call Scar, Can you get started on dinner for me?" Cass left the room
Cass took a deep breath as she dialed Amanda's number. After her conversation with Scarlet, she had been thinking nonstop about finding a way to include her sister on their trip to France.
She knew Amanda had been excited about their girls' getaway.
"Hey, Cass! What's up?" Amanda's cheerful voice greeted her through the phone.
"Hey, Amanda," Cass replied, her tone a mix of nervousness and anticipation. "I wanted to talk to you about something important."
Amanda's voice became more serious. "What is it, Cass? Is everything okay?"
Cass took a deep breath, gathering her thoughts. "Well, after our conversation earlier, Scarlet was disappointed about not being able to join us on our trip. She's been so supportive and excited for me, and I can't help but feel like it would be amazing if she could come with us."
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Cass anxiously waited for Amanda's response.
Finally, Amanda spoke, her voice filled with understanding. "Cass, I completely get it. I have been thinking of bringing her on the trip also. You know she lights up every place she steps into"
Cass's heart swelled with gratitude. "Thank you, Amanda. I appreciate your understanding. I know it might change our plans a bit, but I promise it'll be worth it. Scarlet will be thrilled."
Amanda chuckled. "I can only imagine her excitement. Alright, let's make this happen. The more, the merrier, right?"
Cass grinned, relief washing over her. "Absolutely. Thank you, Amanda. This means the world to me and Scarlet."
After they ended the call, Cass couldn't contain her excitement. She rushed upstairs to find Scarlet, who was in her room, absorbed in a book.
"Scarlet!" Cass burst into the room, her voice filled with excitement.
Scarlet looked up, her eyes wide with curiosity. "What's going on, Cass? You seem happy."
Cass couldn't help but beam as she relayed the news. "I talked to Amanda, and she's completely on board with bringing you along on our trip to France!"
Scarlet's jaw dropped, and her eyes filled with disbelief.
Cass nodded, a wide smile spreading across her face. "I'm serious, Scarlet. We're going to France together!"
Tears of joy welled up in Scarlet's eyes as she jumped up from her seat and threw her arms around Cass. "Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is going to be the best trip ever!"
Cass hugged her sister tightly, feeling a sense of joy and fulfillment in bringing her dreams to life. "You deserve this, Scar. We're going to have the time of our lives."
As they let go of each other, Scarlet wiped away her tears, her face shining with excitement. "I can't wait to explore France with you, Cass. We're going to make unforgettable memories."
Cass nodded, her heart filled with gratitude for her sister and her friend. "That's what I'm looking forward to the most, Scar. Adventures and memories that will last a lifetime."
