The poisonous wind blew aggressively against the trees as the sky roared and flashed in anger. The night was cold and darker than black itself. The dark clouds covered every ray of moonlight as she ran through the forest. The woman was tall with white hair, icy blue eyes, and blue lips. She carried a little girl in her arms pressed against her big stomach, running with the wind on her feet
The ground froze as she ran, looking around with fright. Her life and that of her daughter were in danger and she knew she couldn't save them. She was pregnant, almost nine months, and very weak, yet she ran with her might
"Cyrus, please answer me," she cried telepathically to her husband, she was met with harsh silence, "Don't worry, baby, you'll be fine," she whispered to the girl in her arms, coming to a stop at a tree. She could hear the barks and feet of her enemies closing in. "We can't both die," she mused, staring at the big willow tree. She walked towards it and with one stomp of her foot, a thick ice column sprouted from the ground, lifting her and the baby off the cold, white ground. She placed her daughter in the tree covered by thick and big leaves then sighed.
"Mommy, what's going on?" She sobbed.
"My beautiful Wynter, they want the cold stone in my heart and your crystal heart. I can never let them take it to her or this world is doomed."
"Who is her?"
"The ice queen, my auntie... I can't explain, I have no time but just promise me you won't move. Stay here and wait for your father or the vessel of the universe, she will explain. Promise me you won't move."
"Mom..."
"Wynter, promise me."
"I won't," the child whispered, "be careful, mommy," the woman looked back, feeling them getting closer.
"I love you, My Wynter, if you see your brother after this, tell him that he will always be my venomous frost and I love him too," she smiled, tears rolling down her cheeks. She kissed her forehead and the ice pillar leveled down.
"I love you too, mom," she whispered and blew her mother a kiss. The woman caught the imaginary kiss and ran off with a much greater speed, using her ice to speed off. The girl sighed as the hundreds of wolves, lycans, and vampires ran past her. She closed her eyes and tried to communicate with her younger twin brother to ask for help. "Frost, can you hear me?" Nothing. She placed her hand on her heart and exhaled. "Frost, I call upon our bond, hear the voice of your cold sister, and answer," she said softly. She felt a sharp pain in her head that made her wince and then his voice.
"Oh thank heavens! Wynter, where are you and mom? Everyone is going crazy trying to find you both," he said worriedly.
"The northern boulders, come find us fast before they kill mom," she cried.
"I'll tell dad now," the link cut off. She heard an explosion, ice spikes flew piercing every single tree in sight but not hers. She couldn't take it, she jumped down from the tree and ran in the direction her mother ran to.
After running for a while, she got closer to the battleground. Her mother stood in the middle of the wide field, ice spikes surrounding her. Her eyes were fully blue and her skin glowed like a mini-moon. If it wasn't for the baby in her womb, she would have transformed into her full form. She let out an ear-deafening scream and a big ice eagle flew out of her body, killing all in its way. She spun her hands in a circle, sending a spiral wave of ice toward her enemies.
She fell to her knees holding her stomach in pain as tears streamed down her cheeks. She murmured a spell quickly as she felt her life slipping away and energy depleting. A lycan picked up one long ice spike and threw it at her. Unable to move, the ice pierces deep into her chest. She cried out but continued with the incantation.
"Finally, Arabel, we have you," the leader of the vampire said tiredly, "take her heart and let's leave before Cyrus gets here," he added clutching his bleeding chest. The woman chanted the final spell out loud and with icy fingers, ripped out her own heart. A little stone glowed from inside and rose in the form of an eagle.
"Get that eagle!" The lycan chief shouted. The eagle flew straight to the little girl who hid behind a tree crying. It slammed into her with force, sending her flying half a mile back. She screamed at the excruciating pain in her heart and body, she felt her soul splitting into two. "There she is!"
The wind suddenly encircled her and formed a massive tornado, trapping her inside, but she was protected by the sharp blades of the wind. The wind took the form of a lady, her hair white as the star, her skin glowing like the moon, and her silver eyes shining brightly. She looked down at the girl and sighed sadly, tears glistening in her beautiful eyes.
"I am not from this reality so I cannot help you completely, but you have made me shed tears. You are too young to face this so sleep and forget for now. You will return and finish what your mother started, you will end the reign of the ice queen. This is my promise to you as the vessel of the universe." She carried the sleeping girl into her arms and disappeared with the wind.
Never to be seen again.
Part One: How It All Began
The vibrating of my phone woke me up. I groaned and whimpered. I reached out for the phone on the other pillow and opened my eyes. "Fuck!" The light blinded my eyes. I blinked and rubbed my eyes sitting up. The phone stopped ringing but began ten seconds later. I answered it since my eyes had already gotten used to it. "Do you realize it's 5 am?" I asked huskily.
"Do you realize it's 11:43!" She yelled. I grumbled under my breath. "Arabel, you need to take this thing seriously before you get fired. Everyone is getting pissed off because of your new attitude. Are you pregnant or something?" My manager screamed upsettingly. I moved the phone away from my ear and fell back on mine.
"I'll be there in an hour," I murmured.
"Ara, what is your... okay, an hour," she sighed. I threw the phone away and went back to sleep, but the phone rang again. Ah, she knew me too well. Grumbling under my breath, I threw the light blanket away and sat up. I stood up and slipped my feet into my flip-flops. I walked to my bathroom, no, I plodded there, and without wasting much time, I was done.
The one hour is for more rest.
My phone rang again. I ran to it because the special ringtone made it clear who it was. "Amacake," I said excitedly. She chuckled.
"Arapie, good morning,"
"I've missed you,"
"We talked last night," she said with a chuckle.
"Four years ago," I said poutingly. She laughed.
"God, I've missed seeing you in person,"
"If we can get together without your clingy husbands, then count me in," I said happily. They always stuck to their husbands which were super annoying. Especially Ama, herself, and Blake were inseparable. They were each other's second skin and Blake was her handbag as she was Blake's breath. My other sister, Iso, didn't always stick to her husband but she couldn't resist him when he stuck to her. He always followed her about... almost always. It was sad being the only single one among the older girls in my family.
"I guess so. let's see what Iso will think about it," she'd be all game. We'll just have to figure out how to help her ditch her husband, Lake. Yes, their names are similar. My sisters married their high school sweethearts who were also best friends. They literally became friends because of their names.
"How's your man by the way?"
"Very fine, babies are too but is always hungry,"
"More hungry than Blake?" I asked smirkingly.
"More hung... oh! You are crazy!" She laughed as my words slowly registered to her. "I called to check on you and babies say hi," she said happily. She had twins, one year and four months old. "Isn't that right, babies?" She asked babyishly. All I heard was baby language. "Raven took his first running step today and River called me mama," she said tearily.
"They grow up so fast," I cooed.
Don't they?!" She squealed and laughed.
"Mama," I heard a tiny voice. Ama screamed excitedly. I rolled my eyes with a smile. "Ara, did you hear that? Raven just called me mama too!"
"Stop overreacting!" Blake shouted from the other end.
"Jealous much!" She shouted. "Say mama again," she sang and I think she was clapping her hands, "call me mama," One of them called it and she went mad again. I chuckled and hung up.
"I don't have time for that, continue your gleeful madness first. I love you." I murmured to myself, dialing Isobel's phone number. "Hey, baby girl!" I shouted.
"Grandma!" She squealed. I rolled my eyes. "How ya?"
"I'm fine just tired and miss you,"
"Aww, I miss you too. I've just been too busy with my four babies", she sighed.
"I thought you only had three?"
"Lake is a much bigger kid, just being too clingy and overprotective,"
"You chose to marry him because you love him so deal with it," I scoffed at y. I would have preferred them to be single like me, but no, they decided to remain in love and leave me behind. It wasn't their fault but sometimes, it got to me.
"At least I'm married, when will you even think of getting into a serious relationship with someone?" Here comes the talk.
"When all my hair turns white," I said smirkingly. She scoffed.
"Aren't you dating Kennedy anymore?" She asked curiously.
"We never dated, I don't feel a thing for him and he is a mama's boy," I said irritably.
"Hmmm, what..."
"No Cupid please," I interjected.
"For today, I will let you off the hook," she said with her weird motherly tone.
"Do you guys want to hang out? I can create time," I asked hopefully.
"Sure, a break from men will do us good. I will talk to Ama about it,"
"Already have,"
"Then I guess all we need is a date. I will check my schedule and link it up to Ama's," she said her voice rising. "Excuse me, I have to go yell at some stubborn kids now. I love you."
"I love you more,"
"I love you m... Shelly, put your brother down!!!" She hung up. I smiled.
My everyday life.
Isobel and Amabel were my sisters, born from different mothers but with the same father. Wait. My father had two wives, Isobel's and mine, but both died after giving birth to us on the same day. Later, on one of our usual business moving, dad met Amabel's mother who was our teacher, and Ama our friend. Amabel was coincidentally born on the same day as us, she is the youngest, and me the eldest. Our parents fell in love and got married.
We were the best of sisters, triplets as we claim. But as we grew up, we started parting because of their marriage. I was the unlucky one. It wasn't like before, and I wished it was.
_____
I sashayed into the building nonchalantly. Mindy ran to me and hit my arm. "At least, walk faster and why didn't you wear something warmer? It's a snowstorm out there," she said worriedly.
"It's not cold at all, Mindy. I'm fine,"
"Ara, it's freaky cold. I can barely feel my legs," she lamented. I leaned forward and looked at the hair on her neck closely. She had goosebumps scattered across it and she looked pale. She was indeed cold but I wasn't feeling a bit cold.
"I don't easily get sick," I stood up straight and shrugged unperturbed. I wasn't lying. Ever since I turned sixteen, I can count the number of times I'd fallen sick on one hand and still have one to spare. She eyed me and hit my head with her really strong palm.
"You have to stop playing with your health," she said scoldingly, still worried.
"Blah blah whatever, you sound like my mother," I said irritably. She tried hitting me again but I ducked it and laughed. "Really, I'm fine,"
"I know," she smiled. "Go apologize to the producer and director," she patted my shoulder and left.
Mindy Wood, my best friend. Five years older and had been working for me since I started my acting career four years ago. She was nice, caring, outgoing, and strangely strong. A beautiful Supergirl with semi-long dirty blonde hair and striking blue eyes. She leaned very deeply into the curvy side, like Amabel, and had a very keen sense of smell and hearing.
"Look who finally decided to show up," the director said sardonically.
"I'm sorry is all I have to say," I said coldly and walked away to get ready. I wasn't always this rude but I slowly grew into one and I still couldn't tell why. Kennedy waved at me, I smiled and waved back. I can never date a mommy's pet.
______
After acting out all my scenes, I walked out with my things. The snowstorm was stronger than before but it felt good to me. "Do you have a death wish?" Mindy asked from behind me. You can never escape her. I turned around and she folded her arms. "I'm listening,"
"Just really tired," I sighed. She shivered as the cold wind blew and hugged herself because of the cold.
"You are always tired, Ara, tell me the truth, who is the father of that baby?" She asked seriously.
"Mindy," I drawled with a groan.
"Is it Kennedy? Didn't I warn you to always use protection?"
"It's not Kennedy!" I exclaimed.
"Then is it Bethune or Jasper?"
"I haven't had sex for three years now. Give me a break." I said with annoyance. She gasped.
"No way! That's so responsible of you," she said sarcastically, "who owns the child?"
I chuckled at her weird, stern face. "Girl, you look odd with a stern look," I said laughingly opening my car door
"I'll drive, the snow buried my car," she said, snatching my keys. "We need to run a test on you," she said matter-of-factly.
"Be my guest," I smirked. She rolled her eyes and pushed me aside, I walked to the passenger door with a smile.
"Do you have anything to eat? I'm starving."
_____
"I want that and that... and that..." Bevin called out, pointing to the shoes displayed on the racks. She was a sassy queen like I believe she would be.
"Bevin, you have bought enough," a guy with blonde hair and eyes said tiredly, flinging a shoe away.
"It's my money, not yours so please be a nice boyfriend and bring them for me,"
"You know I will never let you pay," he said upsettingly.
"This is my first time buying something from your wallet, stop complaining," she hissed. He gave Kevin a pleading look.
"Don't look at me like that, I warned you not to fall in love with her but you wouldn't listen," he said coldly while scrutinizing his polished nails. He shrugged and continued filing it.
Eventually, my stepmother got pregnant and had quadruplets, freaking quads with two of the most annoying on the planet. Those two were Kevin and Bevin, while the other two were less annoying, more mature, and less fun. And being teenagers wasn't helping their ministration. The girls finally chose a date after a week and here I was in Seattle to go out with them.
Mom and dad lived in Seattle with everyone, Blake and Lake came too just to be with their wives. I moved to LA because that was where I liked it. I barely go visit because the number one topic was. "How to get a husband for Ara." I'm twenty-eight, not eighty-eight.
"I can't believe you told him that," Bevin said with feign hurt. "What kind of brother are you?!" She yelled.
"One of a kind," he said with a teasing wink. She huffed and rolled her eyes away.
"Don't even start you two," Belda said, walking out of the trying room. Belda was the first female among the quad and the second to be born. She was quieter but kind of gullible, okay, really gullible. "So, Carter, how do I look? Do you like this dress?"
"You look beautiful," the blondie with gray eyes said without looking up from his phone. What have I missed?
Bevin picked up one shoe and threw it at him at the same time, Declan who was beside him, smacked his head. "Aaaah! What did I do this time?"
"I don't know, Belda, what did he do?" Kevin asked smirkingly. Belda sniffed and walked out.
"Look here, Carter, if you don't love my sister anymore, just dump her already, you asshole," Bevin hissed.
"My relationship with her is none of your business, Bevin. Mind your fucking business!"
"She is my sister, I have the right,"
"You are just a nosy bitch,"
Wrong move.
Kelvin and Bevin might fight all the time, but he never lets anyone speak badly about her. "She is a what now?" Kevin asked standing up, "did you just insult my sister? No one insult my sister except me," he said through gritted teeth folding up his sleeves.
"Kevin, calm down,"
"I'm calm, don't I look calm?" He asked smilingly. Belda ran out zipping up her skirt.
"Hey, I've told you guys to stop interfering with my relationship. What I do is none of your business!" She yelled at them and that didn't surprise me. As I said, Belda is gullible and a complete fool. She easily lets go of things that matter for those she believes should matter. She was honestly a terrible sister and a terrible person to keep as a best friend, so we all had to keep a close eye on her.
Here comes my senior duty.
"Belda," I called coldly. She froze, they all did. I didn't let myself be noticed in the first place.
"Shit," she muttered. Bevin's and Kevin's eyes lit up and Declan rolled his eyes.
"So is this how I taught you to handle a relationship? Yelling at your siblings to protect your worthless boyfriend?" She stared at her feet. "Any boy that can make you turn against your sibling does not deserve you," I said angrily
"I was j..."
"No excuses! I helped you convince mom to let you date knowing how stupid you are and this is how you repay me? From now on, you are forbidden from seeing any boy or goat..."
"Arabel..."
"No buts, my decision is final and nothing or anyone will change that. Until you can learn the difference between love, lust, like, and stupidity, you aren't allowed to date." I said firmly.
"You can't do this..." she cried.
"Can't I?" I asked with a smirk. If it was Kevin crying, I would have given in since Kevin is irresistible when he cries but Belda was no Kevin.
"But I love him," she sobbed.
"And I don't care!" I shouted. "Now go home and Blondie, scram!" I yelled. He jerked to his feet and Kevin made sure he kicked his ass out.
I know it was harsh and wrong to rule her like that but I've always been the one controlling the quad because they were bound to make stupid mistakes without my guardian. On the other hand, Belda's first boyfriend got her pregnant and convinced her to have an abortion that almost took her life. Still, she didn't learn. Or the other time Bevin almost brought a criminal into the family. If Ama didn't suspect and told me on time, he would have made away with our family heirloom. The only one who I didn't have to worry about was Devin, the eldest of the quad and the most responsible. As for Kevin, I literally had to place a tracker on his clothes, accessories, and shoes and hired spies to keep him from doing something stupid like burning down his school football field, again, for the third time. Or bringing a lioness into the house because he believes he has found his mate. Or the time he foolishly tried to get himself bitten by a poisonous spider so he could turn into spiderman.
"Kevin, if he comes around here again and I find out, I will take away your car and bank privilege," I threatened. He gulped.
"Bevin, if she dares call him secretly, no goodies for you and no China for Christmas," she nodded.
"No need to tell me, I will keep an eye on her," Declan said calmly. I smiled sadly at crying Belda. The other blonde dude was shaking. I glared at him.
"Please don't make me leave Bev, I love her," he cried. I chuckled as Bevin blushed. This must be the Lucas Iso told me about. The lovesick puppy.
"Who's this one?"
"Lucas,"
"Whatever," I hissed.
"Arabel!" Iso squealed. I turned and smiled at her. I stared at her protruding tummy in shock. "Surprise!"
"Another one? Isobel, don't you ever get tired?"
"Just three, Ara, not twelve,"
"This is number four," I said with disbelief.
"Shut up and get a baby t... why is Belda crying?"
"She got Ara'd!" They shouted. She smiled at me.
"Reasons why you cannot die and leave us," she laughed. I smiled. "Guys, take that crying mess out of my fashion house,"
"Okay, Kitty, let's go," Kevin said carrying her up. I sighed and watched them leave.
"Are you okay, Ara? You look pale," she asked worriedly, touching my forehead. Why does everyone keep saying that?
"Let's go," I walked out, "I'm fine,"
"But you look really pale, like your skin is turning white... are you pregnant?" I've noticed that too. But I didn't think it was that serious.
"Nothing of such," I said confidently, "watch your step," I held her hands and walked down the stairs.
"I'm pregnant, not lame," she said laughingly. I helped her to the car since I didn't come with mine. She hugged herself. "It's freezing out here," she said gnawing her teeth, "Aren't you cold?" She asked worriedly.
"No," I shrugged opening her car. She got in before me. She was driving. "So what are we doing tonight?"
"Oh about that, the guys asked if they could tag along with us and we agreed. So it's game night."
"I thought we agreed on just girls," I asked with a tight smile.
"But they insist," she said, starting the car. I scoffed and looked away to the window resting my elbow on its sill. Just like always. My monotonous life.
I sat in a crisscross, a serious frown on my face as I watched Amabel and Blake play. Drake, their last friend, and my ex were with his fiancée, Sharia. Iso was with her husband, Lake. Guess who's the seventh wheel? Me. Who's Drake? My high school to college boyfriend, also my last boyfriend and best friend to my sisters' husbands. I became famous, had less time for him and then he cheated on me. Unfortunately, I couldn't fuck his homeboys because clearly, they were my sisters' men, so I screwed his cousin and we became even.
"Blake, stop tickling me," Ama said, giggling uncontrollably.
"Apologize," Blake singsonged.
"Never," she giggled. He tickled her tummy, increasing her already serious laugh. Iso walked into the living room carrying a bowl of cheese.
"Seriously, babe, cheese again!" Lake asked shockingly. She eyed him. "Pregnant women," he muttered
"Don't insult me," she snapped.
"Or rather, us," Sharia added folding her arms. Yea, she's pregnant too, and loves showing me that Drake is hers. Apparently, bitch still thought I was a threat and she was right to be scared because if I really wanted Drake back, I could make him mine in minutes. The guy's not the most committed guy on the planet.
"Yes, us," Drake said folding his arms too. Sharia chuckled.
Oh brother.
"Okay I give," Lake said in defeat. I hissed but to myself. Yes, I was a little jealous but not because of Drake and Sharia but because I didn't have a guy of my own and so much for girls' night.
"Arabel, help me!" Ama shouted laughingly. I averted my eyes from her and rolled them away in annoyance. I think she sensed that I wasn't happy. "Okay I'm sorry," she said calmly. He smirked victoriously and let her go. She sat down, wiping some tears out from her cheeks.
"So is this game night or what?" I asked scornfully.
"Yes, that. I was thinking we can see a movie instead, not in the mood for games," Ama said staring at me calmly. Of course, she would notice my disdain, she's the smart one. "How about that movie we saw at the premiere last month?" She asked excitedly, turning her eyes to Blake. And of course, she would ignore me. The boys groaned. "What?"
"Ama, you have seen that movie a million times already, don't you get tired?" Blake complained.
"I say we watch Titanic!" Iso shrieked.
"Birds of a feather," Lake hissed.
"No, this is my house so I get to pick," Ama said, folding her arms. "Sharia?"
"I'm in, as long as I can hug my Drake," she said, hugging him and sending me an evil smirk. I used to hold him like... Whatever. I don't care. I arched a brow at her.
"I will do whatever, my princess wants," Drake smiled. Oh, wow.
"Do I have the right to object," Lake said grumpily.
"They say pregnant women are mostly grumpy and always have mood swings but you are the one in this case," Iso said mockingly.
"I say not," Blake stubbornly protested.
"Movie it is, because the majority, my dear Blake, wins the vote," Ama said smirkingly. "Now be a good husband and go turn on the TV."
"The remote is beside you," he said upsettingly. She picked it up and flung it to the other chair.
"Whoops! Now, it's too far," she said innocently. He glared dagger at her but still went to get it. Iso chuckled.
Wow, so funny. I'm totally rolling my eyes.
My phone rang and I looked at who called. The caller was the last person I wanted to speak with but for the moment, he was my favorite. I answered my phone, placing my foot on the sofa and swinging them side to side as if I was happy to hear from the person. "If it isn't Mason Mamoa," I said teasingly, "you finally decided to call," Sharia gasped from where she sat. I was all so aware of Mason being her biggest crush, so it gave me extra joy to rub it on her face.
"Ara, you actually sound happy to hear from me?" He asked, surprised. I rolled my eyes. Don't get it wrong, the guy was secretly gay and had a huge, mega crush on my father. He kept bothering me to link them up and was talkative. "Does this mean you'll give me a chance?!" He literally shrieked loud enough for everyone to hear.
"Easy there, Casanova, don't move too fast. You know what I will always say, right?" He whimpered childishly.
"But I love you," he whined. "And I'll make a great dad," I snorted and burst into laughter, imagining Mason being my stepdad. My mom would end him before that ever happens. "Why don't we talk about it in person? There's this huge party going on in Seattle, at Reece's. Wanna hang? I'll save you a dance." I wasn't in the mood for it, but I will rather be there than here as an unwanted seventh wheel. "Are you doing anything right now?" I looked around, seeing my sisters, Sharia and Drake looking at me. I rolled my eyes away.
"Nay, nothing of importance. I'll be there in thirty to fifty minutes, wait for me at the door. See you soon." I hung up and stood up, grabbing my bag.
"You are just going to leave? Just like that?" Ama asked sadly. Instead of answering her, I put my phone in my bag and waved dismissively to the air, and headed for the door. "Arabel, seriously?"
"Ɣebubuɣi si mia dometɔ aɖe akpem ava kpekpe sia si ŋu viɖe aɖeke mele o la, MAtso mi ɖa le nye agbe me keŋkeŋ. Eye megatsi dzi o, nyemagawɔ ɖoɖo ɖe kpekpe bubu aɖeke ŋu na mí o." I said in ewe, a language I know only my sisters understood. Iso's eyes widened and Ama's lips formed into a thin line. I walked out of the house, slamming the door shut. I finally told them what I felt.
I've been so pushed to be alone that I talked to myself every time. I missed when it was just us.
After the party, I had to drag Mason's motionless body to his house and then took a cab to my house in Seattle. I slammed the door shut making my house vibrate. Maybe I should stay with mom and dad but their love was worse. Screw the love, mom would kill me with marriage shit. Ever since Drake, I just couldn't fall for any guy, as if my heart was frozen cold. It certainly wasn't hot like this house.
This house is hot!
I went to turn on the temperature to cold but it was already at its lowest, that's funny. I shrugged and walked to my room. I stripped off my clothes and went to bathe with annoyance.
How could they do this to me?
Am I not their sister?
Ara, why can't you just fall in love?
I turned on the shower and frowned at the warmness of the water. Why is everywhere so hot?! I turned the shower to cold but it still wasn't cold enough. What is wrong with me!!! I sighed and took my sponge and soap, after sponging, I placed my hands on the wall and let the water rinse me. I closed my eyes and sighed heavily again. The temperature finally suits me. It was cold enough. I smiled and ran my fingers through my hair. I opened my eyes and saw myself covered by fog... what happened? The fog was everywhere.
I turned off the shower and searched blindly for my towel. My hands touched my bathroom robe so I picked it up and walked out with careful steps so I wouldn't fall. Was the water that cold?
"That was weird," I muttered. I came to a halt when I caught my reflection in the mirror. Who is that girl in my mirror? I closed my eyes and opened them again. "This can't be happening!" I exclaimed. "This is me! When did I dye my hair?" I ran over to my vanity. If I was living with the quad, I would have thought they pranked me but they didn't. I lived alone.
My hair had white streaks all over and my lips were blue. One of my eyes was blue instead of violet. I had two different colored eyes! That is impossible! I closed my eyes and breathed heavily. "This is a dream, I'll wake up. Everything will go away," I said convincing myself. I opened my eyes and sighed with relief. I must be sick and hallucinating. But deep inside, I knew it wasn't a hallucination
_____
"If our love was a fairytale
I will charge in and rescue you
On a yacht baby will would sail
To an island where we'd say I do
And if we had babies they would look like you
It'd be so beautiful if that came true..." Mom sang as she chopped the onions. She was wearing goggles to prevent the onions from getting into her eyes. I went to see them after that weird hallucination five days earlier and so far, so good. She didn't bother me for a husband-yet. My days were numbered.
Dad walked in humming the song and I knew another love nonsense was about to begin. I rolled my eyes with annoyance and Bevin who was washing the dishes giggled. Sure, mock the single one.
"Not again! Aren't you both too old for this?" Kevin grumbled. Tell me about it.
"And if our love was a storybook
We would meet on the very first page
The last chapter would be about..." Dad sang out to annoy him.
"Here it comes," he grumbled again. Dad held mom as they sang to irritate Kevin. Just like me, he feels the sharp blade of singledom whenever he's with couples. No one asked him to be a playboy and no one told my heart to be frozen.
"You guys stop it! There's a kid here!" He shouted, slamming the knife in his hand on the chopping board. Bevin threw a cup at his head.
"Ignore that jealous loser and continue,"
"My beautiful Mabel, give me some sugar," Kevin pouted and closed his eyes so he wouldn't see.
"Are they done?" He whispered.
"Yup," I popped. He opened his eyes and whimpered still seeing them kissing.
"You are a traitor too. I'm too young to see such things," so says the playboy. I'm out of here," he stood up.
"Don't move, Kev, better cut that thing before I cut you," Declan said threateningly, pointing the butcher at me. Kevin has been trying to cut one meat for over an hour but alas! He hasn't even succeeded in cutting one slice out.
"Oh come on! I'm yet to even cut one out," he cried.
"Lazy dummy. Yet your appetite is the widest. You can't boil a single water without burning it," Bevin said mockingly.
"Shut up, Be... hey stop kissing! Why is life so cruel?!"
"Just because Evaron dumped you," Bevin scoffed.
"Her name is not Evaron, it's Avalon and I dumped her," he said defensively.
"Are you sure? Because you cried all night," Declan said chucklingly.
"I did not cry! I had something in my eyes and I watched a sad movie," Kev lied.
"Is that so?" I smirked.
"I don't like her,"
"He so does. He hugged her picture too while crying because he got dumped by Nevaron,"
"Her name is Avalon!!!" He yelled. "Treat her with respect."
"Oooooh! Kevin is in love," I cooed teasingly. They laughed as his face turned red.
"Okay meat, listen up," he said seriously, staring at the meat fiercely. "I'm going to cut you now so I can get the hell out of here,"
"The beginning of an already known madness," Bevin laughed. He eyed her and faced the meat again.
"I wasn't talking to you, poodle,"
"Yea, you were communicating with the gods of madness," she said tauntingly.
"Kevin just cut the damn meat," Declan huffed tiredly. Kev huffed and focused on the meat, he cut it slowly, wiping off his sweat at intervals.
"I did it!" He exclaimed excitedly.
"One out of what?" Declan laughed.
"It's not like you can do better,"
"Challenge accepted," he smirked. He dropped the butcher and walked to Kev. He took the knife. "Watch the master and learn," he chopped the meat in thirty seconds. He has always been the kitchen type. "You owe me your credit card," he said giving the knife back to gaping Kevin.
"That was so cool! You just did my job for me!"
"Loser," Declan kicked his stomach.
"Mom," Kev groaned falling on the floor while holding his stomach. "Declan has killed me, I'm dead."
"Kevin, will you stop being dramatic?" I laughed.
"I can't work again, Declan has killed me... Wait! If I die, she will come back," he mused excitedly. He stood up and kissed Declan on the lips.
"God! Yuck!" Declan spat out coughing. "Are you crazy man!"
"I so much love you, big brother," he chirped and kissed Declan again. We were laughing.
"What's your shit man!"
"If Avalon thinks I'm sick, she will come to me. Declan, you are a genius!" Declan moved back immediately.
"Kiss me again and I will iron your lips," he threatened seriously. I laughed and went to Bevin.
"Go get ready for your date, I will handle this," I smiled. She blushed and kissed my cheek.
"Thank you, sis. When will you meet Lucas?"
"Kevin says the dude is great so no need."
"But he wants to meet you, he's a fan," she said shyly. I nodded. Of course.
"Soon," I murmured. She nodded, kissed my cheek again, and ran out after kicking Kevin and knocking Declan's head.
"Stupid girl!" Dec shouted.
"Hey, Dec!" Kev shouted. Immediately Declan turned, crazy Kevin kissed him and ran away. Declan screamed with disgust.
"I swear, we gave birth to mad children," mom laughed sitting on the floor. I smiled and turned on the tap.
"Ara has even matured, she's one of my crazy psychos. Just like her mother," dad said smilingly. Mom, I wonder what she is like. She died after I was born so I never got to meet her and dad never talked about her.
I shook the thought off and reached forward to touch the water, but it froze. I gasped and looked around immediately, Declan was scrubbing his lips with ice, and mom and dad were still laughing. With a pounding heart, I touched the frozen tap water again and it returned to normal. What is going on?! What am I turning into?
