Chapter 1 Interview

I stared in surprise at the open screen of my old laptop before me. The mail open and its contents exposed before my very two eyes. I had not applied for a job in this company, how did I get an invite? Moreover, an invite to work at the biggest oil and Gas Company in the country was a dream I'd never even had, talk more of planning to achieve. Still, the words stared back at me; it was real and confirming.

I looked at the date and saw it was...today? I panicked a little as my eyes flew to the clock hanging on the wall of my room. The hour hand was pointing at two and the minute hand was at five, it was twenty five past two and the Interview was going to take place seven hours and thirty five minutes from now. I quickly stood and went through my tiny closet that was sparse with clothes. I chose two of my best so I had options to choose from and made an urgent work of ironing them. By the time I was done, it was three am on dot. I went to my mother's room and checked to see she was peacefully sleeping. I went back to my own room and set the alarm an hour before ten.

I was so revved up I could not will my mind to sleep. Possibilities and probabilities poured in, all making me nervous and excited. Soon, I drifted off and by the time I woke, it was fifteen past nine. I rushed through the morning, caring for my mother.

"Why are you in a hurry this morning?"

My mother asked, a curious smile on the woman's face.

"I got a surprise interview last night. This morning. It was around past two." I hurried through my words, buttoning the shirt I'd chosen and giving my blonde tresses a last dressing. "How do I look?" I turned away from the mirror to look at my mother, already picking up my purse and a bag containing some of my relevant documents in case it was needed.

"You look good." My mother complimented, beaming at me.

"Will you be okay all by yourself?" I asked, a bit concerned with leaving my mother to her own devices.

But the woman merely shooed me away. "Go before you run late. It's an interview and punctuality is part of it. I'll be fine."

Smiling, I went closer and bent to kiss my mother's cheek. "Take care of yourself mum. I'll be back soon."

And with that, I sprinted out of the house and ran to the bus stop hoping to catch a bus sooner. Thankfully, the company was not that far from where I lived. If transportation went well, I should be there in about fifteen to twenty minutes. I quickly boarded on one and was well on my way for my unexpected interview.

It was ten by the time my bus had stopped at my destination, but I learnt I still had to walk further down before reaching the company. I could not afford a taxi else I'll be walking home. I trekked and was grateful when I was finally seeing the gigantic building. I stepped inside and saw the receptionist. Controlling myself from giving in to the urge of gaping at the exquisiteness of the interior of the building, I proceeded to the receptionist's table.

"Hi, good morning." I greeted with a polite smile on my face.

The receptionist regarded me with coolly eyes and an equally polite smile. "Good morning. How may I help you?"

"I am here for the interview." I informed, still keeping the smile plastered on my face.

"Oh, yeah. Go upstairs. The first door by your right on the third floor." She directed.

"Okay, thank you." I said and was hurrying towards the stairs because I knew I was already late. I just hoped I was not too late.

"Uhm, where are you going?"

I turned to give the receptionist a puzzling stare. "The stairs."

"Don't you want to use the elevator? It's this way." She pointed to her right.

"Oh, thank you." I flushed embarrassingly. Great, now she probably thinks I was from the time before the invention of elevators. My mind was in a swirl and I had not really bothered about how I'd get to the interview area, I just wanted to be there. I took the direction she'd given me, walking very fast on my low strapped heels.

Soon I was one way up to where the interview was scheduled. When the elevator dinged open, announcing my arrival, I let out a whoosh of breath and stepped out. The sight that greeted me as soon as I got out was intimidating and scary; there was a sea of interviewees like myself and they were all women. The air of confidence surrounding them belittled the one I'd managed to conjure from home to this place, and they were better dressed too. Their eyes rounded on me. I swallowed and quickly walked to an isolated seat before their gazes made me fall on my face.

Soon, a woman came out and called my name. What? My name? But I was the last to be here. Maybe she was mistaken.

"Is Zendaya Huttinson not here?" The woman was beginning to sound quite annoyed.

"I'm here, ma'am." Was I the first to go? Was my name first on the list? I was unsure, also I was not prepared for the pointed stare the woman gave me.

"This way, Miss Huttinson." She briskly ushered me into a room. Before the door closed, I heard the low, dissatisfied murmurings of the other interviewees. It wasn't my fault I was to go first.

"Sit down, Miss Huttinson." One of the three interviewers gestured towards the seat before them. My heart beat wildly against my chest, I hoped how I felt inside was not radiating one face. Confidence was the key.

The interview began and I was able to express myself. Soon, nerves were gone and I was speaking with confidence and professionalism that I never knew I possessed. When it ended, nerves were back. How did I do? I looked at their faces to know if their expression would answer my question but nothing. They were blank.

"Wait outside, we'll get back to you." The woman who had come to call me said.

"Thank you." I kept the tremor out of my voice. I really needed this job. I was desperate for it. I went back to my previous position and sat quietly.

It was not long before the woman came out but it was terrifyingly long for me.

"You can all go home, we have found the person for the job." She announced to the other applicants.

There were grumbles and angry murmurs, I even heard someone curse the company. Many annoyed eyes scrutinized me condescendingly, but the woman's word had my attention at the moment. Who was the person? Was I the one?

"You can come in, Miss Huttinson." She woman gave me a smile this time, though it was professional.

I walked in to meet the satisfied gazes of the interviewers.

"Congratulations, Miss Huttinson. You have been given the job. You can start tomorrow."

Chapter 2 Squaring my shoulders

Getting to the office the following day was not as hard as the first day, though I still had to trek from the bus stop where the bus had dropped me to the building because I was trying to manage my finances. I was beyond happy, though still surprised at the way everything panned out. My mum was so happy when I told her yesterday. This was going to change our lives, I had made enquiry about getting her a caretaker, my work schedule was sent to my email yesterday and it was hectic. Being the personal assistant to the CEO required lots of traveling and late nights at the office.

"Good morning." I cheerfully greeted the receptionist as I walked past her area, she smiled at me in reply before attending to the man who had walked up to her table.

Soon, I was in the elevator and proceeded to the last floor where the office of the CEO was, and my office too.

"Good morning, Miss Huttinson."

It was the woman from yesterday, one of the interviewers. "Good morning ma'am."

"This way. The boss is waiting to see you." And she led me past the work station of other staff, taking me towards a door.

She stopped and pointed. "This is your office. Go inside, drop your things and let's go meet the CEO."

I nodded and obeyed instantly. Slipping into the office that was said to be mine, I could not help but gasp. It was spacious and neat. Everything looked so new that I wondered if I was the first personal assistant of the boss or they replaced them when a new personal assistant is employed. There was a desktop, a telephone, a printer and scanner. There was even a small TV hanging on the wall of the office, the window was floor to ceiling but the closed curtains prevented the morning sun from streaming in. My hand traced the edge of the fine table made from polished wood. Wow! I was about to squeal when I heard a knock.

"Let's go Miss Huttinson. I have duties this morning to do."

Oh, I'd almost forgotten the woman outside. I quickly put my things down and went to her. "I'm sorry."

"Let's go." Taking the lead, she rapped on the door close to mine.

"Cone in." The voice was gruff, it definitely belonged to a male. I quickly wondered what kind of person my boss was. His age and personality. I berated myself for not doing a research on him, I needed to have something to help me familiarize myself with him.

The woman opened the door and gestured that I go in before her. Exhaling deeply, I walked in as confidently as I could, plastering on a professionally polite smile. "Good morning Sir."

He raised his head from what he was doing and I almost gasped in surprise. I did not know what to expect but it was certainly not this beautiful face. He was really handsome, though he was wearing a cold expression. His rich brown eyes scrutinized me.

"Who is she?" His baritone voice was as rich as the color of his eyes, and it was deep enough to make any woman swoon. That was enough, I told myself sternly. I was not here to ogle my boss, I was here to work for him and earn a living.

"She's the new personal assistant, Sir." The woman clad in a quite expensive, very beautiful dress that made me wish I was wearing something as tastefully designed as hers explained to him.

"Hmm." He turned his gaze on me again and I tried not to squirm under his intensely cold, dispassionate stare. "What is your name?" He directed to me.

"Zendaya Sir. Zendaya Huttinson." I replied calmly. He looked like the kind of man nobody trifled with. There was this dark, brooding aura that oozed off of him.

"How old are you?" His eyes remained on my face unblinking.

I sighed inwardly, my whole body reacting. My insides roared with apprehension. "I'm twenty four Sir."

His eyes went back to the woman beside me. "Of all the applicants, she did best?"

"Yes Sir." She replied, a small smile creeping up her face.

What was happening here? I was even the only person they had interviewed. I was already proud of myself for landing this job and mom was already over the moon about it too. I did not understand what was going on here but I hoped it was not going to end badly for me.

"Alright, you can go." He dismissed the lady. Without another word, she left and it was just the two of us in his office.

I decided to let my eyes roam the length of his office, it was many times bigger than mine, and even the TV in his office was bigger too.

"Are you just going to stand there or you'll get to the business of the day?"

I returned my gaze to his face and realized he had caught me admiring his office. Feeling stupid, I lowered my eyes. "What do you want me to do this morning for you sir?"

"First off, take a seat and join me." He instructed curtly.

Without wasting time, I sat on one of the chairs opposite him. Looking at him expectantly, I waited for my next instruction. His head already buried in the documents he was perusing when I'd come in, he slid one across the table to me. "Go through that file and tell me what you understand by it."

My brows furrowed, I wondered if he was trying to test me. To know if I was good enough for this position. Straightening my back and I opened the document. "Alright sir."

I was going to prove to him that I was good enough. He was going to see that employing me was not a mistake and it was something he would not regret. Squaring my shoulders, I began to conscientiously go through the document.

Chapter 3 Unleashing desires

It was the second time I was catching his gaze, and it unnerved me. It was already few months since I'd started working with him, I barely had time for myself. I worked late into the night at the office or embarked on business meetings in different cities and sometimes countries. While the prospect of finding myself in a new environment excited me, the reason for being there always left me exhausted. I was like the wife he never married, I knew everything about him. His favorite coffee, alcoholic drink, clothes and colors he preferred to wear for every designer.

My relief was mom understood and was quite contented with her caretaker, said the woman was fun to be with too. That settled every worried fiber in me, she was the reason I was doing all of it.

"Is your mom doing okay?" He asked, his question was genuine and it always touched my heart whenever he asked of her.

"Yes, she is getting along quite well." I raised my head from work I was doing to appreciate him with a smile. On few occasions, we had delved into personal matters, mostly mine. He was not as bad as he'd seem the first day. Yes, he was very strict and professional, there was also this different side of him that stemmed once in a blue moon.

I continued going through the papers when I felt his stare on me again. I squirmed in my seat, I was blushing so hard I would not be surprised if my whole face was as red as a plump tomato. I forced myself to not notice his stare and concentrate on my work, I was almost succeeding when I felt a hand pull me up from my seat. It was him, I gulped.

"What is it sir?" My voice had gone low.

"You." He replied.

The light in the office was shining bright so I could see his face, the desires swimming in his eyes was unmistakable.

"Sir the file, I-I'm not d-done." I stuttered, my brain was suddenly finding it difficult to comprehend anything.

I inhaled sharply when his fingers traced my neck. I was not expecting that stunning shoot of pleasure coursing through me.

"We can do it later. I just want you." He weaved his hand into my hair. "I don't know when I started wanting you but I know I want you. I'm not supposed to be doing this, you're an employee."

"E-exactly sir. We...we, uhmm...we need to get back to work." His fingers snaking through my hair melted my knees, turned them to jelly. I held onto his shirt for support.

As though that infiltrated his senses, he pulled back to looked at me. I blinked and licked my lips, disappointment and relief washed over me at once. I wanted him to continue, still I did not want him to continue. It was a struggle to keep under wraps the feelings his touch had awoken.

"Don't do that." He shook his head and swallowed. His voice was thick with lust and hearing it only tingled my skin more. Only I did not understand what I should not do.

"Do what sir?" I asked, shamelessly looking into his eyes, letting myself drown in the desire, mystery and danger that loomed there.

"Lick your lips." He replied, still not taking his eyes off of mine.

I nodded absentmindedly, his brown orbs already pulling me in deeper, my thought was they were so beautiful. My breath caught when I realized how deep his desire ran and unconsciously, I licked my lips again.

Before I could brace myself for it, he groaned and slammed his lips against mine. Surprise only lasted for a second before surrender took over, I wound my hands around his neck and gave him full entrance, letting his tongue fight for dominance, plunging itself into my mouth. He ran his tongue over my lower lip, I shuddered and whimpered in pleasure. The crush I'd harbored for him since the first day came crashing down on me. Working together had unleashed a lot of feelings within me that I'd kept suppressed until his touch brought them undone. Now, I was moaning shamelessly in his mouth, ridiculously enjoying his hands as they trailed every part of my body, leaving fire in their wake.

"Zendaya." My name rolled off his tongue and there was never a better way to pronounce it.

"Yes...s-sir?" My head was tilted back to give him unhinged access to my neck.

"You're so pretty." He said and dipped his head to kiss my neck, his hand unbuttoning my shirt. I was a puddle. He lifted me onto his table, I heard ruffling of papers but I paid no attention and from the way he was nibbling my neck, his hands teasing my bra, he was unconcerned too.

My hand grabbed a fistful of his hair as I tried to connect my lips back to his. Our lips clashing against the other in a passionate entanglement, I was unbuttoning his shirt. I heard his strangled groan and a moan escaped my lips when he pressed himself between my legs and I felt his bulge poking and teasing. He left my mouth and paid attention to my other needy parts.

"Alan." I whispered his name in a shudder when his teeth lightly grated my bra. It was not cotton, the material was light and everything thing he did there caused me to tremble.

His hands located my zip and unzipped my skirt, my eyes flew open. My brain though still scrambled was still able to send me warning signals that this was going too far and we might not be ready for it. I was not ready for it. I stopped his hand from going further.

"Sir, please." I drew away from his touch and raised his head to look at me. The desires in his eyes gave way to sanity though not totally because I could still detect it lurking in there.

He arranged himself as I did too. "Let's go home."
