After realizing that he was a fool to let her go, Rovan became determined to get her back as his wife.

Chapter 1 I Didn't Do It

The enormous hall was decorated with lights and decorative strings. Every single soul at the party was thriving with joy as they moved to the rhythm of the music. All but one.

Millie Matthews was clinging on to her cup tightly as she watched her husband laughing with another woman. Peyton.

Peyton was his first love and after her relationship failed, she had returned to steal Millie's husband, Rovan Marlowe, which seemed to be effortlessly working.

Peyton walked towards Millie with a mischievous smile on her face. "A word." She plainly said before strolling casually into the kitchen, swaying her hips as she walked.

Millie heaved a gentle sigh to calm herself before dropping her glass and following after Peyton.

She crossed her arm as she rested her hip against the counter. "What?"

"Nothing, you just couldn't seem to get your eyes off me so I thought you had something to say to me." Peyton said with a smirk.

Millie scoffed. "You must be joking, why won't you back off my husband?"

Peyton chuckled. "Oh so that's why you have been staring at us. Jealous much?" She crossed her arms below her breast with a grin as she asked.

"He chose me and that's why we are married, why don't you just give up and stop trying to ruin my marriage?"

Peyton chuckled. "Oh really? You really think that he chose you because he wanted to? Why don't I show it to you that I'm the one he'll always love?" She said as she started towards the array of knives.

"What do you think you are doing?" Millie took an hesitant step backward as fear gripped her by the throat.

Peyton trailed her finger across the knives and picked up one. "Sharp." She said with a devilish smirk.

"Stop it! Whatever it is you are thinking, don't do it!" Millie tried to reason with Peyton but the girl was too crazy.

"Then stop me! Tell me that you'll give up Rovan because he belongs with me!" Peyton yelled out with eyes glaring with hatred.

"Rovan chose me! I'm the one he loves!" For some reason, Millie felt like she was saying it to convince herself and not Peyton.

"Wrong choice of words." Peyton pierced her own skin with the sharp end of the knife and immediately, blood poured down from her stomach and dropped to the ground.

She was covered in her own blood and she stumbled towards Millie and pressed the bloody knife into her palm.

Millie was horrified as blood stained her hand and her white dress.

"Ah! Somebody help me!" Peyton stumbled towards the door and collapsed to the ground.

Almost immediately, Rovan hurried towards her and picked her into his arms. His eyes flickered with anger as he looked up at his wife. "You did this, didn't you?"

Millie was too terrified to speak. The blood stained knife had fallen to the ground in front of her and fear caused her to freeze to the ground.

"She... she stabbed me..." Peyton murmured as she clung closely to Rovan .

"I..." Millie swallowed hard. "I didn't do it." She gasped.

"Somebody call 911!" He yelled out as he hugged her closer to himself. "What possessed you to something so out control?" His eyes burnt with hatred as he glared at her.

She had thought a man she was married to for three years would trust her words over any others but she was wrong. She hated that she knew it.

All eyes were on her now as she stood dumbfounded in the kitchen. It was only then that she was able to recollect her thoughts.

Peyton never meant to have a word with her, that was the sly woman's plan from the very moment she lured her into the kitchen.

How crazy could a woman get to stab herself just for show?

"I really didn't–"

"Shut your trap! Why didn't I see this coming?" He murmured to himself as he picked Peyton off the ground and hurried out of the hall.

Millie just stood there, terrified.

After gathering herself, she left for her bedroom to change into something with no blood stains. A while later, she heard a knock on her door and she jumped to her feet to open it.

Standing by the door was a tall, buff man with cold black eyes. His name was Lance. "Mr Marlowe requests your presence."

Millie swallowed hard at the thought of confronting her husband's father. Mr Lyle Marlowe was just as hard headed as his son. They shared the same cold icy blue eyes and perfect bodily features.

But there was no escaping her sentence. She puffed her chest and followed Lance down the hallway and after a deep breath, waltzed into Mr Marlowe's study.

It all happened so fast yet she managed to dodge it by a hair. Mr Marlowe's phone went flying directly at her face as she walked in and a horrified gasp left her mouth.

The man hadn't noticed her walk in and didn't intentionally aim for her but he was not sorry about it. "Great, you're here. How do you plan on handling the mess you have created? The press won't stop bothering me!" He growled.

She yelped at his voice. "I– I'm sorry but I didn't do it! I really didn't–" A hard covered book hit her directly in the face, causing her nose to bleed as she cried out in pain.

"You worthless b*tch! I knew you were nothing but bad luck ever since you joined my family now look what you've done!" He spat out at her. "I ought to kill you with myself!" He growled as he hurled everything his hands could reach at her.

As unbearable as the pain was for Millie, she dared not move away. All she could do was stand there in tears and endure the pain.

When there was nothing within his reach anymore, Mr Marlowe finally gave it a rest. His face scrunched into an ugly frown. "You had better not cause any more trouble for my family or else... I'll really kill you then."

Chapter 2 She Left!

With a nudge of his head, Lyle ordered Lance to take her out and the obedient assistant nodded his head.

Roughly, he gripped Millie by the forearm and forced her out of the office, ignoring her whimpers from the pain he was causing her.

Tossing her to the ground, he grunted disgustedly after taking one look at her and walked away shaking his head.

Millie picked herself up after a second, trying to stop the tears that pricked at her eyes, she dashed down the hall, racing for her matrimonial bedroom and slammed the door once she was in its comfort.

With her back pressed to the door, she fell to the ground with tears pouring down her face. The pain from every item that hit her was finally kicking in and everywhere ached.

She rose from the ground and walked towards her floor length mirror. Fresh blood sipped out from the cut on her forehead and her face was bruised in different spots.

How could they not even want to hear her own words? Believing an ex girlfriend over a wife.

She was very sure more of those bruises would be on her body, she could feel them aching and the grip from Lance still hurt badly.

After a minute of weeping, she decided to change into something more comfortable this time, not trying to look pretty or presentable for anyone. Just a pair of free grey colored pants and top.

Sitting on her bed, she waited for her husband to return from the hospital so she could explain to him better. Hopefully, he would believe her.

Almost as if he had waited for her to finish thinking, the door pushed open and Rovan walked in and went straight to the large drawer at a corner of the room. Almost as if he hadn't noticed her.

Taking a deep breath, she calmed her nerves before approaching him. "Rovan , won't you even ask me what really happened?"

Rovan seemed to stop his search for whatever it was he was looking for. He paused and turned around to face her. "What really happened?" His brow arched as he asked.

"Yes." She responded.

He let out a soft laugh. "What really happened?!" His voice was loud as he spoke. "No, I don't need to ask because I saw what really happened! We all did! Now Peyton is still unconscious and my phone has been blowing up with damn calls from the press! You just had to show the world the little demon that lived in you huh..."

"What? You believe her? She did that to herself to frame me! And you should believe me because I am your wife! You chose me over her three years ago because you... You love me." Tears trailed down her face as she spoke. Her heart ached so much because all she wanted was for him to believe her.

"Love? No, I don't love you. You were a mistake, I made a mistake I knew I would regret and now... Here I am."

"What...?" The question was stuck in her throat as she stared unbelievably at him.

He pushed past her side and walked out of the room, slamming the door behind himself.

Millie felt suffocated. The room was suddenly a place to small for her to be. She couldn't bring herself to sob, her heart drowned. All along, she knew.

She picked up her phone and dialed out a number with fidgeting fingers. "Hello, please come pick me up. I want to get out of here." She sobbed into the phone.

Moments later, an X5 BMW was parked outside the house and a beautiful blondie came down from it. Her name was Eva Stone and she was closer than a sister with Millie.

Millie was seated outside the house when Eva arrived and she ran to her for a hug. Falling apart as she cried.

"It's okay love, I'm here for you now." Eva said in an attempt to comfort her friend.

"You were right, he never loved me. I'm going to get a divorce and end things finally." Millie sobbed loudly as she explained.

"Then you should be happy! Let's go get your stuff!" Eva dragged her best friend back into the building and helped her pack her things before they finally left for her place.

After a while, Millie was calm and though she wasn't hungry, her best friend had forced her to eat something light.

"Look at all of these bruises, we'll go somewhere together tomorrow and take care of all of them. You'll be better in no time okay?" Eva assured and Millie nodded.

"You're the best, Eva."

Eva smiled and hugged her friend. "Let's get some sleep now, big day tomorrow girl!"

Rovan heaved a heavy sigh. Everything was just too much for him to digest so easily. His phone was about to blow up with several calls from the press. All of which he ignored.

His eyes traveled to the clock hung on the wall and he noticed it was half past midnight yet no sign of his wife.

Didn't she know better than to lock herself in the room acting angry after the mess she caused? "That woman really is something else. Not the woman I married I'm sure." He muttered to himself.

He signaled for one of the passing house maids and she hurried over. "Where is my wife? Didn't anyone tell her that I'm back? Go up to her room and call her right now!" He ordered angrily.

The maid still remained in the same spot though nervousness played on her face like a perfect performance on a stage.

Rovan -- thankfully-- wasn't slow enough to miss the signals. "What is it? Tell me, did something happen?" A look of seriousness played on his face as he asked.

"Uhm... Sir... She uh... Earlier, madam's friend, Ms Stone, came over and helped madam pack her things out of the house. She dropped this off and said we gave it to you but you were--"

Rovan snatched a white paper from her hand and discarded her. She left after a bow and only then did he open the paper that seemed to be a note.

"You don't have to worry about your mistake anymore." The note read.

His forehead creased as a stern expression sat on his face. He called Lance who appeared almost instantly. "Find out where my wife went, she cannot leave like this."

Lance gave a slight nod. "Yes Sir."

Chapter 3 Familiar Blue Eyes

Millie sat up in bed with a tired yawn. She had barely gotten any sleep last night from the way her head kept banging and her tears refused to stop.

Eva was there for her even though she momentarily fell asleep.

By the time she was up, breakfast had been prepared by her friend and she lazily climbed out of the huge bed.

She freshened up and put on a green cropped top and a deep blue jean. Her lengthy brunette hair was let loose over her shoulders and she decided on a black wedged heel to complete her look.

"Oh look at you! That is my best friend right there!" Eva praised her as she walked into the living room.

"You think I look good?" Millie asked her friend. Her beautiful face was lightly detailed with makeup.

"Of course you do! That bastard won't even know what hit him!" Eva continued.

Millie nodded her head and sat down for breakfast. She always trusted her friend's judgment on fashion since Eva was always beautifully dressed even without trying.

She had decided to visit Rovan that day after getting the divorce papers ready and she wanted to look her best to boost her self esteem.

After a cup of fresh apple juice and some waffles, Millie was ready to go. She picked up her handbag and left the house.

Eva had insisted she took her car since Millie's husband hadn't found it essential to buy a car for his own wife.

"You are too good to me." Millie said with a smile before driving away.

Arriving at her husband's company, she confidently strutted into his office without even waiting for his secretary to inform him.

Rovan sprung to his feet on sighting her, for some reason, he felt a little nervous. He had never seen his wife so confident before, he could see it in her steps, her unwavering gaze, the swaying of her hips. She suddenly seemed more attractive.

He cleared his throat, chasing such thought out of his head. "Look who decided to show up after running away from home." He said as he crossed his arms.

She smirked then placed a brown envelope on his table without uttering a word.

"What is this?" He asked as he picked it up. Taking out its content, he let his eyes soak in the words though he couldn't believe what he was reading.

She had tendered a divorce paper which was already signed by her! To make things worse, she requested for nothing from him, not even alimony!

"A divorce paper?" His brow arched skyward.

"Tomorrow at ten, let's end this finally and part ways. No more mistakes." Her voice was stern as she spoke.

"Have you thought this through?" He questioned unbelievably.

"Trust me, three years is more than enough to think this through. See you tomorrow, oh and, a red tie would have looked better." She said, pointing at his necktie.

With that, she turned and walked away, keeping a confident posture and a grin on her face.

Rovan slammed the papers angrily against his desk. While they were still together, she was the one who always picked out his clothes and what would match them. He had found it hard to decide on a tie that morning and he hated that she had to see it.

He angrily pulled out his tie and threw it away.

Walking out of the building of Rovan 's company, Millie was all smiles. She thought she would tear up or at least be fidgeting in his presence but for some reason, she had felt overfilled with confidence.

For three years straight, she had fought for the heart of a man who never wanted to give it to her in the first place.

He had never loved her, how did she not see it? She was only there to shut the media up, she was sure. So nobody would gossip about the eldest Marlowe heir being single.

All she wanted was his heart and she deceived herself that he had chosen her out of love even though she knew that it was because his true lover, Peyton, was out of reach then.

Now that they had blackmailed her like this, the only wise thing to do was to leave and she wouldn't think twice about it.

She reached for the handle of the door of the car but her phone suddenly began to ring in her hand.

After opening the door, she sat in the driver's seat and answered the call. "Hello?"

"Can I speak with Millie Matthews?" The person requested.

"This is she. How may I help you?"

"Mr Matthews ordered me to let you know that J international needs a head and he wants you to lead it. He is pleased with your breakup with the Marlowe's first son."

Millie was left speechless. Her father? How did he know about her divorce when she had only tendered it a while ago?

*

On arriving home, she explained everything to Eva including her father's offer.

"Will you take it?" Eva asked.

"I'll talk to him later. How do you think he knew about my divorce?" A confused look played on her face as she asked.

"Apparently, someone from the court saw the famous Marlowe's wife signing divorce papers and spread the news across. News travels quickly on the Internet." Eva responded.

Suddenly, a sad look played on Millie's face. "Did you see what all those people are saying about me? I didn't stab her for real!"

"Of course I know that. I know you! Don't read those hateful comments, the Internet is really shitty these days. We'll clear your name somehow." Eva assured with a smile.

Millie sighed.

"Enough of this!" Eva exclaimed. "The day is still young and I can hear the club calling our names! Let's go!"

Millie let out a soft laugh. She got on her feet and started towards the door. As she reached for the handle, she heard the doorbell ring and before she could stop herself, she had already pulled it open.

Her entire self froze at the entrance as her eyes met with a familiar set of blue ones. "Hunter?"

The handsome man's lips curved into a smile. "Hello Millie, it's been too long." Mil
