"I can't wait to play the role of Moon Ga Young," I said excitedly to my manager who is also my best friend. I twirled on the sliding chair in my office, and my smile deepened when her face twitched up into a smile. I knew she was as excited as I was, this is a very crucial part of our carriers. I was going to shoot the popular movie, True Beauty and I was given the female lead. It wouldn't hurt a little if I feel proud of myself.
Emma nodded. "The feeling is mutual, Angel. Maybe after that you will become New York's next diva in the entertainment industry."
I chuckled. "And then I will raise your salary and you can go boost your TikTok account with my fame." I finished for her, and I watched as the red color rose to her cheeks. Feeling shy about it, Emma covered it with a scowl and gave me a playful kick.
"There's no reason to be embarrassed about anything now, or is there Emma?" I asked, relaxing more on the chair. "After all, you have been with me all through this journey and you deserve even more than a raise."
She flicked her hair and narrowed her eyes. "At least I'm glad that my hard work had been noticed."
Just then I heard my phone ring, and I picked it up after checking it was someone I knew. It was Dad, and I face palmed and whispered who it was to Emma after she gave me a cocked eyebrow.
"Hello dad," I greeted.
"Angel I have something I want to discuss with you." Dad said hurriedly, and I tipped my head into a frown as uneasiness washed over me. I got a bad feeling about what he was about to say and I hope it wasn't something as bad as it seemed. "I arranged your marriage with the Colloways, so you will have to come back here for the wedding."
"What! You can't be serious right now Dad. Why will I marry a stranger?" I said completely pissed off. Emma rolled her eyes and she went back to typing something on her phone.
"You should know something like this was bound to happen. Just like how the other families of the firm arranged their children's marriages for the sake of the company, so will you now. It's same thing as the others. It definitely is not a big deal if you look at it from my own angle. You only have to be married by name and you can go ahead and go about your business like nothing happened."
"You really amaze me, Dad. It's so easy for you to say after all you and mother married for love. You have no idea what it means for you to walk down the aisle with someone you barely know." I said repulsively, and I closed my eyes as I thought it all. How mistaken I was to think I would escape the wrath of the company by not getting my marriage arranged by them. I thought being the daughter of the main chairman would secure me but now I know I have been long all along.
"It's not that bad if you view from my angle Angel. Just imagine what the Ruby Group will benefit from all of this, and I think you will also benefit from it as well considering you are still single and all that." Dad said, exhaling a long breath. I could hear his heavy breathing in his end as a little silence issued between us.
"Fine Dad." I said defeatedly, raising my hands up in the air and rolled my eyes as if he could see me. "I will go ahead with the arrangement but I hope my so called groom will have no ill feelings towards my career? Because I can never end my career for a man especially now that I am at the peek of my career."
" You have nothing to worry about in that respect because I doubt that the groom is glad about this marriage too. You two were forced into this, so he wouldn't care what you do for a living."
"Thank goodness you realized you are forcing me into this." I scowled loudly. "Alright Dad, I will be back after playing my current role. But how about the contracts I signed here, how do I terminate them just like that? I also need a replacement if I have to leave the company I am contracted."
"That won't be a problem at all, just ring either your mom and I when you arrive at the airport and we will come pick you."
"Sure, see you soon. Bye Dad, I have work to go back to." I said hurriedly, as I cut the call without waiting for him to speak.
"What was all that about?" Emma lamented, rolling her eyes and it went big, and I imagined doing more of that would make them fall off their balls.
I sat up on my seat and slammed the pen I didn't know I was holding all these while on the table, and replied with a very agitated voice I could muster. "The arranged my marriage."
"So I heard." Emma exclaimed, I knew she doesn't want me to go ahead with their decision but even as much as I was tempted to do so, I knew it would affect the company badly. I have to close my eyes and do what was needed, and I would do like Dad suggested and pretend I wasn't really married. "Who does that these days, Angel? This is the 21st century and I thought some ancient customs have been taken down, no one does that to our generation again. Not anymore."
"I know Emma, but I really have to go ahead with this. Now let's prepare to go back to Los Angeles, and thank goodness the show is in few days time because I do not want the Groups to think I am keeping them waiting." I sighed, getting up from the comfort of my seat as I began to make plans.
She flicked her hair and I let out a chuckle. "Alright, but do tell me when your groom is being an asshole so I can kick his butt."
"I sure will." I laughed, feeling glad she was with me because she somehow lightened my mood.
"It's been so long since I last visited here." Emma scowled loudly, and I concurred. "New York is way better than this."
Our plane had just landed and Emma and I made our way out to the open, and I took my phone to give Mom a call. I could have just rented a car to take us back home but knowing my family, I knew that would be a terrible mistake to make.
"Everyone feels the same way." I said loud, earning looks from people around. Well I didn't give a damn about what they thought, and just when they recognized me in my hot red pants and tank top, three girls came running towards me and grinning from ear to ear.
I glanced at Emma and she had a frown on her face, she knew what they wanted. It was typical of fan freaks to request for their fan's autographs.
"Oh, it's you Angel. I am your top follower, you really pulled it off on the True Beauty's movie. I couldn't get over it and I have watched it a couple of times." One with red hair chirped happily and I smiled at her.
"Yes, she's right. We really love the way you act, your facial expression, everything was just so real." Said the one with long black hair, the length of which reached her waist with lovely curls that shone under the sunlight. I envied her for it, hers was lovely but mine was a sharp contrast to hers. Where her hair went all curly mine had not, not even how many times I tried to curl it, it could never pull off.
"Awwn, I'm so pleased right now. I'm glad that some people are always eager to watch my shoots, thank you for believing in me." I said, stretching my arms to receive them in my arms. They all came crashing their bodies against mine and out of the corner of my eyes, I caught Emma glaring daggers at them. She was always jealous whenever my fans surround me, she wants to have my full attention but it was so sad because I enjoyed the moments I spent with my fans. The joy and happiness I see each time on their faces encourages me to do more.
"So please can we get your autograph?" Said the one who haven't commented since they arrived. I nod my head with a sweet smile still on my face and I pulled away and signed my name of the sheet of paper they gave me. Soon after that, we took pictures together and I waved them off after promising them to release something bigger than True Beauty soon.
"Then I thought they won't leave your side again." Emma snorted, rolling her eyes at me and I waved her off. "You should have watch it though, you will wake up with your pictures all over social media."
"Whatever, I doubt they would do that though. But if so were to be the case I don't mind. Yeah, why should I care? It would after all help them get more popular."
"You're impossible."
"Let me be Emma, I see no harm in what I do. Someday, you will be happy when your fans starts flocking around you just when you boost your TikTok account."
"It's good to see you darling." A musical voice said from behind, and I turned around to find my mom running towards me. She spread her arms and I flew into them and rested my head against the crook of her neck. Her body felt warm and good and I relaxed just how much I missed her. It's been three years since I last visited here. So much had changed, definitely they were improving in environmental structures.
"Same here Mom, I missed you terribly." I replied honestly, and she patted my back as she laughed at my remark. "Where's Dad? He said he would be here to drive me home."
"He would have been here with me but at the last minute his presence was requested at the office." My mom said, her voice cheerful and I pulled away from her checking her out. She had grown a little fat and there were hickeys on her shoulders. Color rose to my cheeks embarrassed, so they still engaged in the act? I thought to myself and I let it pass because of Emma. I don't want her hearing something like that about my parents, even I if I ever was to loose my virginity.
"It's alright, it's all about hahaha," I chuckled.
"You should know your Dad really cares a lot about you." She began, her eyes furrowing as they registered on Emma. "So much for arranging my marriage." I sneered.
"Hi Emma, good to see you." Mom greeted, her smile reaching her eyes as Emma waved at her. Mom liked her a lot, she had always taken her as her second daughter and I was pleased about that because she had lost her mom at a young age and her Dad left her and her younger sister to fend for themselves, and travelled to Mexico to marry a new wife. Emma went close to Mom and they hugged each other.
"You look great Mom." Emma complimented, and she smiled at her.
"I had the chef prepare your favorite girls, now let's go and talk about your wedding over lunch Angel." Mom said, and she pointed to the driver who I had not noticed until now before instructing him to carry our luggage.
"There's nothing to talk about, well there's none because I am not getting married for love." I rolled my eyes, then clicked my heels as I marched away from them and towards the car.
"It's necessary you planned your wedding well, Angel. The media do not have to know you are not in love with your groom, just give them a show and make everything right because you are a celebrity. Unless you want your fans to criticize you." Mom shouted, and I played deaf ears.
We were told we would be having dinner with the Colloways, and I had grudgingly asked Emma to tag along. It was going to be more than a dinner, as we would be introduced to each other, myself and the proposed groom. I didn't even know his name, I sighed then got up to get myself something presentable for the night.
I grabbed my red short fitted dress that had a v cut which showed off a bit of my cleavage. My heels were black with gold stunts that matched my blonde hair. I chosed a golden purse to kill my outfit and I smiled at my reflection in front of the mirror. Happy with my appearance, I let my hair fall lose around my shoulders before making my way out the door in search of my friend.
She had insisted on waiting outside and I knew she used that as an excuse to make new videos for her TikTok account. I found her sitting in front of the garden, her expression happy as she said something to her phone which confirmed my guess on the TikTok part.
When she saw me she waved then mouthed something to the camera before she walked towards me.
"You got this?" She said unexpectedly, her left brow raised up and she gave me that up and down look. I nodded my head unsure of what to say and we made our way to the car, Dad and Mom were already waiting in their car and when they caught sight of us they signalled for the driver to hit the road and we did same.
Few minutes later, we were seated around round table in their dining hall, biting into our food in silence. I sat across my future mother in law and Emma sat at my right hand side while Liam sat on my left.
He looked so yummy in his rolled white shirt and I couldn't help glancing at him from the corner of my eyes. He had caught me staring more than once and he scowled disapprovingly at me. He could go ahead and hug a transformer, I don't care. After all I had every right to stare at him, a bride has every right to stare or worse glare at her arranged groom. If it pissed him off so much then he should go ahead and cancel the marriage.
I chuckled silently at my thoughts, as I bit into my chicken leg before slumping it on my plate. I looked up to notice everyone's eyes on me and I rolled my eyes in an amused manner.
"What's wrong?" I shrugged, giving back the same air as I received. Liam muttered something under his breath and i chuckled again, still aware of everyone's eyes on me. I was used to the attention anyway so I am not bothered.
Mrs Hugh dropped her fuck on her plate and stared directly at me. "Is there anything wrong with the food? Don't you like it, I can have the maids make you something else. Hold on, Miriam...." I held up my hands and shook my head. "Hell no, there's nothing wrong with the food. I just you know, remembered something funny."
"Angel, manners here." Mom yelled, her eyes huge as she stared angrily at me. Lol, but I don't know what I said.
"Never mind that Catherina," Mrs Hugh said dismissively, and I wanted to chuckle some more but held it in. Two pairs of legs hit mine under the table and I looked down to catch Emma trying to kick me again. I turned to her with alarmed eyes and cocked my eyebrow, I didn't like that very well. At least I do when we are sneaking around some bad things. Laugh at that.
"Stay calm." Emma said, then elbowed me. Like seriously? What was that for?
Mr Hugh, my future father in law pushed his plate aside then cleared his throat and I realized it was time for proper introduction. I continued eating my food ready for it all. Somehow, I found myself wanting to know more about my strange groom and I'm surprised at myself for that. I thought I wouldn't care less if he was one ugly beast just like how I wouldn't care about a bad whether. But it wasn't so, I had been thinking a lot about him than I wanted to. I thought maybe it was normal, that I was bound to since we were going to walk down the aisle together.
"Angel, I want to formally welcome you into our family. We are proud of you and your achievements and we believe you are a perfect match for our son." He said, and my lips twitched at that. Perfect match, scoff. Just like my thoughts, Liam did the same. He scoffed. I turned to him and our eyes met, I gave him the 'l too find it gross' look before I turned to face his Dad.
"Thank you sir." I muttered. That was all. I felt completely unsure of how to react to that. Maybe a 'are you serious sir? Thank you so much and I'm glad I'm going to marry your son' or maybe this, 'Really? I too find your son as the perfect match for me.'
"We watched your recent movie and God, you performed extremely well. You pulled it off and I couldn't hold it in so I showed you off to my friends." Mrs Hugh chirped in excitedly, then winked at me as she appraised me from head to toe. Knowing how gorgeous and hot I looked, I didn't feel nervous so I held my head high as I finished the food on my plate.

After dinner I excused myself and started to tour around the house. Their compound was extremely large and there were series of flowers in bed forms that lined about and I was able to make out most of them. There at the far side of the compound were flowers I recognized immediately as hibiscus, there were hues of them and I found my legs moving in their direction. I plucked some of them and lifted them to my nose to sniff and I smiled as I inhaled their good scent.
After I had had my time with the hibiscus, I moved over to another bed, which contained roses. I sniffed it too but this time I couldn't just let it waste so I slid one in between my hair, just a little before my left temple.
"It suits you." A voice said from behind, and I jerked away to be face to face with Liam. He stood there with his hands in his pockets and I bet I caught a smile crack his lips and just when I smiled it disappeared, leaving me wondering whether it had been there or not.
"Huh?" I gasped, tipped my head into a frown but to my greatest surprise he left without another word. "Weirdo." I muttered to myself, turned around to pat the roses before I headed back inside.
