Chapter 1 Lose My Number!

Joanna entered her house, visibly drained. The intense demands of her job, heightened by her superior's undue harshness, had begun to break her. As she settled into a chair, she reflected on the intense dissatisfaction pervading her professional life.

However, her thoughts were not confined to her career. The lack of family support cast a dark shadow over her life, a void left by her mother's premature death when she was just two.

The unclear events that led to her mother's untimely death left lingering questions. Despite the doctor's positive forecast and the expected discharge, her mother's abrupt decline and subsequent death shrouded the truth. Whispers circulated of a secret affair between Don and Maria before Joanna's mother's demise.

Maria leveraged her knowledge of Mr. Don Johnson's paternal secret to coerce him into marriage, threatening to expose his affair and his resultant child to the media. In a bid to uphold a perfect image, Don bowed to societal pressures and the need to shield his reputation and business. His marriage to Maria was, however, loveless, a cold arrangement dictated by fear and societal norms.

The town's whispers had hardened into established knowledge: Joanna had two half-siblings from Maria. The consensus was that Danny, Joanna's junior by a year, was the fruit of an illicit relationship between Don and Maria. His birth was shrouded in suspicion, hinting he may have been conceived while Don was still wedded to Joanna's mother, Leslie.

Conversely, Tasha was born following Don and Maria's marriage, an embodiment of their post-marital relationship. As Joanna wrestled with her tumultuous professional life and her family's dark secrets, the complex beginnings of her siblings added another complex layer to her life's intricate fabric.

Facing these revelations, Joanna found herself at a juncture, pondering her strained relations with her father and stepmother, and her own role in a family where truth and deception merged into a disturbing pattern.

Joanna sank into her sofa's cushions, her mind overrun with memories of the tempestuous years living with her father and stepmother.

From an early age, Maria displayed a harshness that cut deep. Joanna vividly remembered the hunger pangs Maria arbitrarily inflicted on her. The verbal attacks, name-calling, and the continual reminder that she was an "illegitimate child" lingered in Joanna's mind. Maria's contempt seemed unending, intensifying as Joanna grew.

As Joanna transitioned into her teenage years, Maria's demands amplified. Joanna was tasked with house chores and laundry, even with domestic help available. Don, was unaware of Maria's maltreatment, because he was always away at work. Joanna's academic successes sparked Maria's envy, leading her to thwart Joanna's progress relentlessly.

"Joanna, come here! Who gave you permission to sit and study? Can't you see the chores waiting for you?" Maria's stern voice echoed through the house, a constant reminder of Joanna's suppressed dreams. The order to kneel, the accusatory finger, and the cruel jibes about her deceased mother became a twisted ritual. Maria's hold over Joanna went beyond mere duties; it aimed to crush her spirit.

Tears flowed down Joanna's cheeks as she knelt, Maria's words weighing heavily upon her. Even as she sat alone on the sofa, the emotional wounds inflicted by those moments remained, casting a pall over her reflections of her painful past.

Joanna's train of thought was interrupted when there was a knock at her door. She promptly stood up, wiped away her tears, and hurried to answer it. To her surprise, it was her boyfriend, Samuel. "Hello, Samuel. I'm glad you're here. Please come in," she said. However, Samuel replied, "No, Joanna. I'm not here to stay. I just wanted to talk to you briefly." Joanna looked at him and noticed that something was off with his facial expression; he seemed upset. Concerned, she asked, "Is something wrong, Samuel? You seem rather upset today. What's the matter?" Samuel sneered at her and turned the question back on her, saying, "Why don't you tell me what the problem is? Haven't I treated you well all this time? Why would you cheat on me?" Joanna was taken aback and confused. She replied, "Samuel, I don't understand what you're saying." Samuel burst into laughter and sarcastically clapped his hands. "You're such a drama queen, acting like you know nothing. Impressive."

"Samuel, I don't understand, I've been faithful," Joanna protested, her face a canvas of confusion.

As Joanna prepared to speak, Tasha suddenly appeared behind Samuel. Samuel pointed at Joanna and exclaimed, "Look, your sister is denying everything. I told you she wouldn't agree." This turn of events left Joanna even more bewildered, prompting her to ask Tasha, "What's happening, sis? Am I missing something?"

Tasha stared at Joanna and said, "Be honest and tell the truth, sis. You've been cheating on Samuel. I finally showed some evidence of your infidelity." Joanna was taken aback and rendered speechless. She weakly inquired, "Samuel, what proof do you have of me cheating? We've been together for five years, and I've been faithful to you." Samuel retorted, "Joanna, you wouldn't let me touch you. You claimed you wanted to wait until marriage, yet you allowed another man to touch you." Joanna pleaded, "So, Samuel, you're just going to believe my sister without even hearing me out?" Joanna cried.

Samuel insisted, "Joanna, I saw you today with your coworker, who you claim is just a friend. But you looked more than just friends." Shocked, Joanna questioned, "Where did you see me?" Samuel presented a photograph from his mobile device, capturing a scene near the cafeteria at Joanna's workplace. This image revealed her having lunch with her male coworker. The image gave the impression of an intimate moment between them. Joanna was shocked, "is that your proof Samuel, me having lunch with Fred, from the office?" Samuel was convinced that Joanna had cheated and no amount of talking from Joanna could convince him otherwise.

Samuel insisted that Joanna take off the ring and give it back, thus declaring the end of their relationship.

Despite Joanna's attempts to explain and reason with Samuel, he was resolute in ending things. Joanna pleaded and wept, while Tasha clapped and laughed, proclaiming, "I'm not sure what you were thinking, Samuel, getting involved with my sister. She's always been promiscuous and worthless. Being with her could spell disaster for you and your family." Samuel walked away, shouting at Joanna, "We're done, Joanna. I don't know why I wasted my time dating you. You're such a liar," his voice trembling with anger. Amidst her sobs, Joanna screamed, "But I'm trying to explain. You've known me all these years. Why would I lie to you?" Samuel turned back, locked eyes with Joanna, and firmly stated, "Forget about me.

As Samuel walked away, he turned around and said in a decisive tone, "Lose my number," and with that he walked away.

Samuel, despite being unfaithful himself, was shamelessly fixated on Joanna. In reality, he was the one betraying Joanna, yet he struggled to accept the possibility of her infidelity. He believed that, as a man, he could engage in extramarital affairs and that Joanna, if she discovered his unfaithfulness, could overlook it. He viewed Joanna as the perfect wife material, someone to create a stable home and have children with.

In the wake of the emotional storm, Joanna retreated to her bed, the gravity of the situation weighing on her.

Alone in her apartment, Joanna reflected on the unfair twists her life had taken. Despite her high school graduation and enrollment in Providence State University, her prospects seemed insignificant compared to her siblings who studied overseas. She was once promised international studies by her father, only to have the offer withdrawn by her stepmother, a stark reminder of the unequal treatment she suffered within her family.

Undeterred by the obstacles, Joanna's tenacity and intelligence drove her forward. She graduated with top honors and set her sights on a master's degree in business. Two years later, she was the proud holder of an MBA, a testament to her determination and academic excellence. As she embarked on a new journey, Joanna dreamed of contributing to her father's esteemed construction firm, a component of the renowned Johnson Investment Group.

However, her aspirations took a detour when her father, Don, suggested she gain independent experience. He encouraged her to forge her own path and find her own job, emphasizing the value of practical experience. Joanna, although initially surprised, accepted the challenge, recognizing it as an opportunity to establish her identity and exhibit her skills beyond her family's turbulent history. The corporate world lay before her, and Joanna embarked on her career with a resolve to leave a lasting impact.

At 26, Joanna already had a year under her belt with the renowned Magnum Group of Companies. Magnum Corporation, a pivotal part of this conglomerate, was a beacon in various industries, from real estate to hospitality and tourism.

Magnum's success was underpinned by its visionary outlook, which transcended traditional norms. It was more than just a company constructing luxurious homes and city skyscrapers; it also ventured into the establishment of lavish hotels, resorts, and scenic golf courses. Magnum's portfolio was a clear demonstration of its commitment to revolutionize the living and leisure experience in the country.

Magnum Corporation was more than a property developer; it was an agent of transformation, curating unique destinations that enriched lives. Its ethos was geared towards sustainability, as shown by its eco-friendly practices. This ensured that the beauty it created would persist for future generations. Magnum was not just in construction; it was a guardian of innovation and responsible development, sewing a story of lasting influence and beneficial change. As part of this dynamic corporation, Joanna found herself in a world where her talents and commitment could amplify Magnum's transformative influence.

Despite her impressive academic background, Joanna's professional journey felt like a constant struggle. The remnants of her family history seemed to creep into her professional life, casting a gloomy shadow over her progress. Her boss, Agatha, had an unsettling connection with Joanna's stepmother, adding a layer of complexity to her work environment. A recent incident, in which Agatha deliberately failed to inform her about an important report needed for a morning meeting, felt like yet another calculated move in a ceaseless campaign to make her work life intolerable.

Unaware of the intentional trap, Joanna managed to present from memory and a saved PowerPoint on her laptop, barely escaping being fired. As she sat in her room, staring at the ceiling, she felt the weight of the world bearing down on her. The recent end of her engagement to Samuel added another layer of agony to her already difficult life. Despite the emotional pain, Joanna discovered a spark of resilience within herself.

She persuaded herself that Samuel's reveal of his true character, although painful, was better realized now than post-wedding. However, Samuel's abrupt decision puzzled her. Determined to solve the puzzle, Joanna showered to wash off the residual emotional stress and dressed in her pajamas before surrendering to sleep.

As a new day loomed, Joanna woke up early, resolved to take charge of her professional life. She planned to thoroughly prepare for an upcoming presentation that would have top management in attendance. Despite the hurdles and personal challenges, Joanna possessed a strong determination to highlight her abilities and rise above the adversity that seemed set on defining her life. The forthcoming day held the potential for a fresh start, and Joanna was prepared to confront it with determination.

Tasha's green-eyed resentment towards the bond shared between Joanna and Samuel took a more sinister path when Samuel persistently rejected her flirtatious advances. Driven by jealousy and frustration, she devised a malicious plan to sabotage Joanna's relationship.

Tasha skillfully wove a convincing lie about Joanna's alleged affair with another man and presented it to Samuel. Prone to bouts of jealousy, Samuel fell prey to her deception and believed the deceptive story spun by Tasha. Unaware of her hidden intentions, he gave in to the uncertainties instilled in his mind regarding Joanna's loyalty.

Using the collected evidence, Tasha managed to corner Samuel with a blackmail threat. She offered him a deal - if he agreed to sleep with her, she would keep his secret from Joanna. Samuel, despite his usual principle of not getting involved with his fiancée's sister, accepted the proposition in an attempt to silence Tasha. Regrettably for him, Tasha did not honor her part of the agreement and continued her blackmail, even possessing a video of their intimate encounter. Feeling entrapped in Tasha's scheme, Samuel regretted falling into her conniving trap.

Tasha, fueled by envy of her sister's achievements in academics, relationships, and her career, aimed to seize it all. With Joanna and Samuel's relationship now in ruins, Tasha sought to claim Samuel for herself. She threatened him, "Samuel, if you don't obey my commands, I will reveal your affair on social media, and your peaceful days will be over."

Tasha, having obtained damning proof of Samuel's infidelity, used it as a leverage to force him into a relationship. Initially, Samuel complied with Tasha's demands out of guilt or fear. However, his agreement quickly turned to regret as Tasha failed to live up to her part of the deal.

Instead of maintaining a mutual agreement, Tasha escalated her hold over him through continued blackmail. She now held a video of their intimate encounter, which only deepened Samuel's feeling of being trapped.

Cornered by Tasha, Samuel was overwhelmed with regret for falling into her wicked trap. Tasha, driven by jealousy and the desire to claim her older sister's successes, enjoyed her newfound dominance. As the relationship between Joanna and Samuel lay in ruins, Tasha saw the chance to claim Samuel for herself.

Her threats escalated as she used the video as a bargaining chip. "Samuel, if you don't comply with my demands, I will publicize our affair on social media, and you'll bid farewell to your peaceful days." The ominous threat lingered, leaving Samuel trapped in a maze of deceit and manipulation, while Tasha reveled in the satisfaction of destroying her sister's happiness.

Exasperated by Tasha's manipulative tactics, Samuel finally lost his patience. "I've had enough of your threats; go ahead and expose it. I don't care," he rebuked. In an unexpected move, he decided to flip the situation on her. "I will also reveal that you slept with me. Let's see how that pans out for you."

Unruffled, Tasha retorted with a well-thought-out response. "Well," she said, gazing at him with an enticing smile, "go ahead. After all, I love you. What's there to be afraid of?" She continued, spinning her own version of events. "Your parents and mine will just formalize it, considering our union will be beneficial for both businesses."

The room was thick with tension as their conversation took a dramatic turn. The power dynamics shifted, with Samuel daring to reveal their affair while Tasha, seemingly confident in her own game plan, was unphased by the threat, believing their families would view the union as a profitable alliance.

Within the complex structure of the Chama family, Samuel's role was defined by the inheritance of the Chama Brother Supermarket chain, a popular brand in their locality. As the first-born of the Chama lineage, Samuel became a prominent figure, attracting the attention of numerous young women in the vicinity.

The Chama Brother Supermarket chain exemplified the family's business prowess. The three siblings were responsible for different sectors, with the stores tactically distributed. Each brother was assigned a distinct area to supervise. Jethro Chama, Samuel's father, assumed the role of the eldest brother and was in charge of the Southern region, whilst also acting as the company's president.

However, amidst the family's prosperity and their vast supermarket dominion, Samuel was entwined in the anguish of his private life. His convoluted relationship with Tasha had led him to a state of desolation, and he felt an urgent need to liberate himself from her controlling grasp.

Resolute in his decision not to bow to Tasha's intimidations, Samuel opted to withdraw and reorganize his thoughts. "Tasha, today has been particularly challenging for me. I need to retreat to my home and reflect. Can we postpone this conversation to a later date?" he implored.

Unswayed by his plea, Tasha moved closer to him, wearing a beguiling grin. She then whispered an implicit warning into his ear. "Try not to prolong the suspense, or else I might find myself revealing your numerous indiscretions to the press." With a suggestive wink and a lasting touch, she left Samuel in a whirlwind of emotions, contemplating the intricacies of his personal and familial affairs.

Chapter 2 Second Degree Burns

Joanna's morning routine began with the blaring buzz of her alarm, signaling the start of another day. In her cozy studio apartment, she quickly went about her morning rituals, appreciating the simplicity and solitude that her little space offered. The neatness of her apartment provided a contrast to the tumultuous events that had led her to this point.

She reminisced about the painful episode that led to her eviction from her father's house. False accusations concocted by her stepmother, Maria, and sister, Tasha, painted Joanna as involved with a married man. Despite her vehement denials and suspicions that the man was paid to lie, the revelation shattered her world. Her father, Don, enraged and disgusted, promptly cast her out.

The emotional ordeal continued when a woman claiming to be the man's wife called Maria's phone, lamenting the destruction of her marriage and demanding severe punishment for Joanna. Don, crushed by the perceived betrayal of his principled daughter, ordered Joanna to leave and never return. Despite her tearful pleas, he remained resolute, cutting her off completely.

Joanna found refuge with her university best friend and eventually secured a room to rent, supporting herself with odd jobs obtained through a temp agency. The financial support from her father vanished, leaving her financially strained. Despite her exemplary academic record and dedication, finding a permanent job proved challenging.

One silver lining amid the turmoil was Don's insistence on Joanna's education. Maria's attempts to discredit Joanna fell short of convincing him to cut off her academic pursuits. Instead, he chose to withhold financial support, leaving Joanna to navigate the difficulties of funding her education independently throughout her six and a half years at Providence State University.

The echoes of betrayal, family discord, and financial struggles lingered in Joanna's daily life, but she approached each day with resilience, determined to forge her path despite the adversities that shadowed her past.

Joanna's postgraduate journey was marked by a relentless stream of job rejections. Even her own father, Don, refused to hire her, citing the need for her to gain experience elsewhere. The real reason, however, was Don's reluctance to associate the family business with the scandal surrounding Joanna's alleged affair with another woman's husband. He wanted to distance the company from any potential negative publicity.

Unbeknownst to Joanna, she held a significant stake in the Johnson Corporation, owning 27 percent of the shares left to her by her late mother. This shareholding surpassed even Don's, whose own shares had dwindled due to financial mismanagement and supporting Maria's lifestyle.

Maria, fueled by resentment and jealousy, played a pivotal role in Joanna's job hunt woes. Through a network of goons and manipulative tactics, Maria successfully poisoned Joanna's reputation within their social circles. Maria's operatives surveilled Joanna, gathering information on her job searches and movements. They identified vulnerable links in HR departments of companies Joanna applied to, using any available dirt and bribes to ensure Joanna's repeated rejections.

Maria's tactics were ruthless, involving coercion, beatings, and, in extreme cases, threats of violence to ensure compliance. The lack of integrity in some individuals made Maria's schemes disturbingly effective, further hindering Joanna's attempts to secure employment. Despite her academic achievements and potential contributions to the family business, Joanna found herself trapped in a web of sabotage, orchestrated by the very people who should have supported her aspirations.

Desperate to break the cycle of job rejections, after 6 months of job hunting, Joanna reached out to her former professor for assistance. Fortunately, the professor's son, Leon, worked for Magnum Group, a sizable company that had multiple openings for operations analyst positions. Leon, known for his integrity and dedication to his job, was resistant to bribery or coercion.

Maria's goons attempted to manipulate Leon, but their efforts failed. Leon, recognizing the gravity of the situation, promptly reported the coercion attempt to the police, leveraging his close friendship with a high-ranking officer. The goons were apprehended and sent to jail, marking a small victory against Maria's malicious schemes.

Undeterred, Maria continued her vendetta against Joanna. Utilizing a friend within the Magnum Group, she orchestrated a plan to make Joanna's work life unbearable. The friend, paid by Maria, colluded with Joanna's direct supervisor to create a hostile work environment, hoping to force Joanna to quit.

Maria's deep-seated hatred for Joanna traced back to the past, rooted in Maria's failed attempts to break up Joanna's mother and Don. Maria's resentment festered, fueled by the fact that Don had chosen Joanna's mother over her. As Joanna navigated the challenges thrown her way, Maria's relentless pursuit of vengeance threatened to cast a shadow over Joanna's newfound job and the stability she sought in her professional life.

Joanna's morning routine was interrupted by the insistent ringing of her phone, displaying Mandy's name on the screen. Deciding to prioritize her preparations, she chose to ignore the call, planning to return it later. Opting for a professional yet stylish look, Joanna selected a grey pant suit and a white collared top. Her knee-high boots added a touch of sophistication, subtly accentuating her appearance.

As she let her hair down, its dark, silky strands framed her face, enhancing her natural beauty. Joanna possessed a curvaceous figure that turned heads and a radiant, down-to-earth demeanor that resonated with those around her. With a final glance in the mirror, satisfied with her reflection, she checked her watch and realized it was time to head to the office.

Having learned from a previous incident where she was set up by her boss, Joanna always kept her laptop and USB flash drive close, embracing vigilance as a guiding principle. Upon reaching the office, she headed straight to the conference room, determined to set up for the upcoming meeting. To her surprise, the door opened, and her supervisor, Agatha, entered with another staff member.

With a broad smile, Joanna greeted, "Good morning, Ms. Agatha." However, Agatha's critical stare suggested an underlying tension. Joanna explained her early presence in the conference room, emphasizing her commitment to setting up for the presentation and ensuring seamless connectivity with the projector.

Agatha, in her characteristic manner, hummed in response, turning to address the staff member accompanying her. "Make sure you put a notepad and a pen, water, and a napkin for each attendee," Agatha instructed, leaving Joanna to navigate the subtle currents of tension that seemed to linger in the air. The meeting room, usually a space for collaboration, hinted at an atmosphere where trust was a fragile thread holding together a delicate balance.

"Check to make sure the room is clean and ready for the presentation," Agatha continued, her instructions carrying a hint of tension. As Joanna focused on her setup, meticulously ensuring everything was in order, she seemed oblivious to Agatha's apparent hostility.

Agatha, however, was not one to conceal her emotions. Her face bore the weight of animosity as she glared at Joanna, breathing audibly to emphasize her displeasure. Joanna, engrossed in her preparations, eventually looked up, offering a friendly smile to Agatha. The supervisor, unwilling to engage, looked away and abruptly headed for the door.

Unbeknownst to Joanna, Agatha harbored a plan to disrupt her presentation. The lingering tension in the room hinted at a deeper conflict, with Agatha's apparent disdain setting the stage for a subtle battle that would unfold during the upcoming meeting. As Joanna worked diligently, the shadows of office politics and personal vendettas cast a pall over what should have been a routine professional environment.

The city of Providence, with its picturesque landscape featuring the majestic River Euphrates and the stunning Rock Mountains surrounding the city, had earned a reputation as a prominent tourist attraction. Recognizing the potential of this natural beauty, the headquarters of the Magnum Group of Companies had tasked the Operations and Production department with developing a plan for a project in the area.

Agatha, Joanna's supervisor, had given Joanna and three other team members the opportunity to formulate proposals. These proposals were slated for presentation that day, in front of the headquarters' delegate. Magnum Group aimed to invest in a project along the river Euphrates, which gracefully flowed through the city of Providence, the capital of Albaria.

The project site was located on the outskirts of the city, where the river widened, offering an ideal setting for outdoor activities. The Operations and Production department, including all the Operations Analysts, were tasked with devising innovative proposals to maximize the potential of this land, generating revenue for the company.

Today's presentation was a crucial opportunity for the team to showcase their ideas to Mr. Morgan Banda, the Chief Operating Officer. Each proposal had the potential to shape the future of the company's investment in this prime location, marking a significant moment for both the Operations and Production department and the broader Magnum Group of Companies. The outcome of these presentations would not only impact the company's financial success but also contribute to the city's allure as a thriving hub of business and natural beauty.

In a seemingly innocuous moment during their preparations, Agatha deliberately sat next to Joanna, sipping on her hot tea. As Joanna glanced away, Agatha executed a calculated move, purposefully tipping her teacup, causing the scalding liquid to spill onto Joanna's pants.

"Oh no, my pants!" Joanna exclaimed, quickly standing up and pulling her pants away from her skin to prevent any burns. The commotion drew the attention of everyone in the room. Joanna, keenly aware of her laptop's proximity to the spilled tea, hastily moved the device to safety.

Amid the brief confusion, Joanna excused herself from the table to address the greenish stain left by the tea on her pants. Agatha, feigning remorse, apologized for the incident. "I am sorry for that, Joanna; I should have been more careful."

Responding with grace, Joanna reassured Agatha, "It's okay, Agatha. It was an accident after all." Closing her laptop, Joanna headed towards the restroom to attend to the unforeseen mishap, leaving behind an atmosphere tinged with an uneasy tension.

After Joanna left, the attention of the people in the room shifted back to the presenter. Unbeknownst to the others, Agatha's gaze remained fixed on Joanna's laptop and the attached flash drive. As the presentations began and the room's focus shifted to the speaker, Agatha seized the opportunity. With calculated precision, she discreetly removed the flash drive and skillfully slid it into her jacket pocket.

Relaxing in her seat, Agatha couldn't help but smile mischievously. She believed she had successfully executed her plan. Joanna, upon her return, would find her laptop devoid of the crucial presentation materials. Agatha reveled in the satisfaction of what she perceived as a triumph, confident that her actions had disrupted Joanna's ability to present her proposals effectively.

In the restroom, Joanna quickly realized the severity of the scalding. The pain was intense, and the friction between her pants and the skin on her thighs made it unbearable. Grateful for the nearby private clinic, she decided to seek immediate medical attention. Upon entering, she approached the nurse, requesting to see the doctor urgently.

The nurse regretfully explained, "I am sorry, ma'am, but the doctor is currently with another patient. Since you don't have an appointment, you may need to wait a bit longer." Joanna nodded but couldn't hide the desperation in her eyes. "Please, I got burnt with hot tea, and I'm in so much pain. If there's any way you could fit me in, I would appreciate it," she pleaded, her eyes moist with discomfort.

Another nurse at the station recognized Joanna and felt compassion. "I've seen you before; do you work in the next building?" Joanna affirmed, and the sympathetic nurse intervened, "Come into the examination room; let me take a look while we wait for the doctor."

Moving cautiously due to the pain, Joanna entered the exam room, where she removed her pants and was given a gown to wear. The nurse examined the burns and was taken aback by the severity-swollen skin, red patches, and blisters forming in some areas. "Oh no, these are second-degree burns; you must be in a lot of pain." Joanna affirmed, "I really am in pain."

The nurse provided comfort, saying, "Just wait a little longer, and we'll have the doctor come check on you soon." As Joanna lay on the bed, she couldn't help but wonder about her streak of bad luck. Eventually, the doctor arrived, examined her burns, applied medication, and administered a shot to alleviate the pain. After bandaging the wounds, the doctor gave Joanna instructions on wound care.

"Be careful with hot liquids, especially with sensitive skin. Come back on Monday for a checkup to see if your wounds are healing well." Joanna picked up her prescription, expressed her gratitude, and headed back to the office, hoping for a smoother remainder of the day.

In the conference room, as the presenters were wrapping up their presentations, Mr. Morgan Banda, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Magnum Group, noticed the absence of the third presenter. Turning to Agatha, he inquired about Joanna's whereabouts, as he remembered there should have been three presentations.

Agatha quickly responded, "She left the presentation and never came back, not sure what happened. Sir, I believe the two presentations should be good for you to pick from. Ms. Johnson does not appear to be serious about this project and, as such, should not be kept in this department, let alone the company."

A member of the delegation spoke up, recalling the earlier incident, "I seem to remember that she was accidentally scalded by you earlier, and she excused herself to clean herself. Maybe someone should check on her." Abigail, feeling uneasy, commented, "Yes, it was not really that serious; she should have been back by now." Just then, Joanna opened the door and walked in slowly.

Mr. Banda addressed her sternly, "Young lady, you were supposed to be here to make the presentation but went out and never came back. Do you realize that you can lose your job with that kind of behavior at work?" Agatha smirked as Joanna explained, "Forgive me, sir, but the accident I sustained earlier from the spill was actually bigger than I thought, so I had to go to the clinic next door to get some medical help."

Surprised, Mr. Banda looked at her and asked, "Are you alright?" Joanna assured him, "Yes, I am alright for now, as the doctor administered a pain shot." Mr. Banda, displaying a sense of fairness, then said, "If you are able to give us your presentation, please go ahead. We will give you the chance, since it was not your fault."

Thrilled at the opportunity, Joanna realized her flash drive was missing. She searched around, even in her computer bag, but it was nowhere to be found. After a few minutes, Mr. Banda, feeling time constraints, announced they needed to return to headquarters, and they would be back tomorrow for the remaining presentations. He suggested Joanna try again next time.

Suddenly remembering she had backed up her work on her Google Drive, Joanna pleaded, "Sir, I don't know what happened to my flash drive when I left earlier, but I have a backup. Please give me a minute to set up my presentation." After a moment's hesitation, Mr. Banda decided to give her the opportunity to present, influenced by her determination.

Joanna successfully connected her Google Slides and began her presentation. The delegation from headquarters was attentive and impressed throughout. Agatha, upset that her plan had failed, watched as Joanna answered questions satisfactorily. The delegation bid farewell, stating they would return the next day for the remaining team presentations.

At the end of the week, Mr. Banda informed Agatha that two individuals had been chosen to come to the headquarters to give their presentations. Frustrated and seething with resentment, Agatha couldn't believe that both Joanna and Rachel had been chosen for the important presentations at the headquarters. She stomped her feet in frustration, muttering under her breath about Joanna's perceived ambitions.

Agatha, however, had no intention of letting Joanna know about the upcoming presentation. Instead, she strategically informed Rachel, perhaps hoping to use her influence or gain an ally against Joanna. As fate would have it, Rachel coincidentally encountered Joanna on Friday evening after work.

"Hey Joanna, how are you? Are you ready for the presentation at headquarters on Monday next week?" Rachel casually inquired.

Joanna, taken aback, responded, "What presentation?"

Raising an eyebrow, Rachel chuckled, "We were both chosen to go to headquarters to present our proposals. Let the best man win!"

Realization dawned on Joanna as she realized the intentional omission of this crucial information by Agatha. Grateful for Rachel's transparency, Joanna thanked her lucky stars for the chance meeting.

Later that evening, Joanna hurried home, eager to prepare for the presentation she had almost missed. She turned on her laptop, opened the email forwarded by Rachel, and absorbed the details. Despite Agatha's attempt to undermine her, Joanna remained determined to make the most of this opportunity.

Little did Agatha know, her attempt to keep Joanna in the dark only fueled Joanna's resolve to shine at the upcoming presentation. The stage was set for a professional showdown, and Joanna was ready to face the challenges that lay ahead.

As the day of the presentation approached, Joanna diligently prepared herself for the journey to the headquarters. The head office had arranged for transportation, scheduling a pick-up at 9 am from their downtown office located on the north end. Aware of the challenges she might face, Joanna focused on refining her proposal.

She delved into the intricacies of her presentation, carefully incorporating the feedback received from the delegate during the previous session. Determined to address any potential concerns or questions, Joanna worked tirelessly to enhance every aspect of her proposal.

The evening before the trip, Joanna stayed up late, fine-tuning her slides, rehearsing her key points, and anticipating the possible queries that might come her way. Despite Agatha's attempts to sabotage her, Joanna was fueled by a resilient spirit and a desire to prove her worth.

Meanwhile Agatha met up with Maria Johnson at a local café downtown. They ordered their coffee and started to chat. "Hello Agatha," Maria said with a fake smile plastered on her face. Good evening Mrs. Johnson."

"Well, let's cut to the chess, will we? I am here to check on your progress in getting rid of Joanna from Magnum. I paid you well, and still, a year later, no results. I am beginning to think that you are not capable of that simple job," Maria frowned.

"It's not that I am incapable of getting rid of her, she is resilient. I have made her life miserable in the company, but she still holds on to the job. On Monday, I deliberately poured hot tea on her thighs to avoid her from taking part in the presentation requested by headquarters, but she still managed to present despite the pain.

The company had to pay for her medical fees, and it did not look good for me. Everyone is beginning to see that I am unfair and hostile towards her. I have to slow down for a while," Agatha said rather gloomily.

"What I know is I paid you well to do the job, and I need it done, or should I ask a higher up to give you a hard time, you know I have connections within your agency. "No madam, just be patient, I will come up with something." Maria was becoming impatient and needed the work done immediately. Agatha on the other hand knew that Magnum group was not a place to play games, if HR found out about her mistreatment of Joanna, she would definitely lose her job.

"Madam, please just be patient, I am working on something." She had to think real quick of a way that would not implicate her. She remembered Joanna was not aware of the presentation today, she would miss the presentation and of coz Headquarters would call. She would then fire Joanna for not attending the presentation. She had a big smile on her face and could not wait for that. She let Maria on to her plan and both women smiled devilishly.

Agatha and Maria's sinister conversation unfolded in the local café, shrouded in secrecy and ill intentions. Agatha, feeling the pressure from Maria's impatience, explained her struggles in trying to remove Joanna from Magnum. The deliberate act of pouring hot tea on Joanna to prevent her participation in the headquarters' presentation had backfired, drawing attention to Agatha's unfair treatment.

Maria, growing increasingly impatient, reminded Agatha of the payment she had received for the job and threatened to use her connections to make things difficult for Agatha within the company. Agatha, realizing the urgency of the situation, assured Maria that she was working on an alternative plan.

In a cunning move, Agatha hatched a new scheme. Knowing that Joanna was unaware of the upcoming presentation, Agatha planned to exploit this information. She intended to let Joanna miss the presentation, leading to a call from headquarters questioning her absence. With this pretext, Agatha aimed to terminate Joanna's employment, finally appeasing Maria's persistent demands.

As the two women exchanged satisfied smiles, little did they know that Joanna, determined and resilient, was on her way to face yet another challenge at the headquarters. The battle for success and survival in the corporate world continued, with the stakes higher than ever.

Despite Agatha and Maria's devious plan to exploit Joanna's unawareness of the headquarters presentation, little did they know that Joanna had already discovered the upcoming opportunity. As they exchanged satisfied smiles in the cafe, Joanna was diligently preparing for the crucial presentation that would determine her fate at Magnum.

Joanna's determination and resilience had once again thwarted their attempts to sabotage her career. Unbeknownst to Agatha and Maria, Joanna was fully aware of the challenge that awaited her at the headquarters. She had gathered information, readied her presentation, and fortified herself against the adversities that often lurked within the corporate landscape.

As the clock ticked closer to the momentous day, Joanna stood poised to confront the obstacles planted in her path. The unfolding drama in the world of Magnum was about to take an unexpected turn, showcasing the strength of character and indomitable spirit that defined Joanna's journey.

Chapter 3 The Proposal

Finally, it was Monday. Joanna woke up with a sense of purpose, ready to face the challenges of the day. She jumped out of bed, took a quick refreshing shower, and then carefully selected her outfit for the important presentation. A black skirt suit paired with a vibrant red blouse and matching red stilettos exuded confidence and professionalism.

Having visited the hair salon the day before, Joanna unwrapped her hair from the silk hair bonnet. She teased her hair a little, creating a stylish yet professional look. Applying light makeup to enhance her features, she looked at herself in the mirror. Satisfied with her appearance, she felt a surge of confidence and readiness for the day ahead.

Before leaving for work, Joanna took a moment for her morning devotion, finding solace and inspiration for the challenges ahead. After a wholesome breakfast, she grabbed her laptop bag and held her phone firmly in the other hand, knowing it might play a crucial role in her day.

As she stepped out, Joanna was determined to make the best impression during the presentation at Magnum's headquarters. Little did she know that challenges awaited her, but her resilience and preparedness would guide her through.

Suddenly her phone rang, and she looked at the caller ID and realized it was her father calling.

"Hello Dad," Joanna said.

"Hello Joanna," he responded. Their relationship was fragile since Maria started telling lies about her.

"I need you to come home this weekend; we have guests coming over for your sister's hand in marriage. Please show up on Saturday morning; the man's family will come around 12 noon."

As per the customs of Albania, the man's family needed to come to the woman's home to ask for a hand in marriage. The weight of the request hung in the air as Joanna processed the information. She couldn't help but wonder who Tasha, her younger sister, was getting married to.

Without giving Joanna a chance to answer, he had already cut the phone. Joanna pondered the dynamics of her family, especially considering Tasha's reputation for dating and playing around with wealthy young men. Tasha always seemed to get her way, and it appeared she had their father wrapped around her finger. The prospect of attending the family event brought a mix of emotions for Joanna, adding another layer to the challenges she was already facing in her professional life.

Joanna got to the office at 8 am in the morning, went straight to her cubicle, sat down, checked her emails, and worked on a few documents while she waited to be picked up. At 8:55, she stood by the entrance, ready for the ride to come and pick them up. Racheal emerged from the office shortly after. Racheal was dressed in a stylish grey pant suit paired with a crisp white shirt, exuding a professional and confident demeanor. The two women exchanged greetings and shared a sense of camaraderie, knowing they were both heading to headquarters for a significant presentation.

She had noticed Joanna wearing a grey suit and white blouse during the previous presentation, and she thought it was a good choice to stand out. Racheal looked presentable and felt confident about her appearance. Racheal, of average height and weight, had applied a generous amount of makeup to her face, creating a polished look. However, when she saw Joanna outside, Racheal did a double take, unable to resist admiring Joanna's natural beauty and impeccable self-care techniques.

Racheal greeted Joanna with a wide smile, "Hi Joanna, are you ready for the presentation?" Joanna turned around, saw Racheal, and returned the smile, "Oh hi Racheal, yes, I am ready," she said. "Are you ready?" she asked Racheal. Racheal smiled and replied, "Yes, I am ready. I know you had a shorter time to prepare since you only found out from me on Friday." Joanna smiled at her and expressed her gratitude, "Seriously, thank you for letting me know; otherwise, it could have been a disaster."

Just then, the company van came to a stop in front of them, and they quickly got in, finding seats. The van took about 30 minutes to get to the south end of downtown due to traffic; otherwise, it was a 10-minute drive. When they got out of the van, they entered the tall Magnum Group of Companies building. It was a 35-storey building, an impressive structure that housed the headquarters of the company.

The security guards checked their bags and scanned them in. They were headed to the 34th floor to meet with the COO and his team. Led into the elevator, which ascended swiftly, they reached the 34th floor where the doors opened to reveal a breathtaking office space. Joanna and Racheal were both amazed at the luxurious setting. The lobby overlooked the massive expanse of the city of Providence, with large windows providing an open view of the scenery. The river Euphrates snaked its way through the city, visible in all its beauty.

"Wow... what a view," exclaimed Rachel, capturing the sentiment. Joanna, too, looked out in amazement. They were ushered into the conference room to prepare for their presentations. The anticipation and nerves were palpable as they realized the significance of this opportunity.

Meanwhile, Renda Jennings, the CEO of Magnum Group, sat in his office sipping a cup of coffee that his assistant, Mathew Daka, had just brought in. He casually browsed through the morning news on his laptop, preparing to kickstart his day. Renda, at the age of 30, held the distinction of being the youngest CEO in the city of Providence. His reputation for an aggressive business approach had made him well-known, not only locally but also across regions.

In the four years since joining the company after completing his Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Harvard University in Boston, Renda had propelled Magnum to new heights. With a net worth in the billions, he stood out as the most sought-after bachelor in Albaria. Despite his wealth and status, Renda maintained a low-profile lifestyle. Having experienced heartbreak during his university days when his girlfriend left him for another man, he decided to channel all his energy into building his career. Relationships took a back seat as he dedicated himself to the success of Magnum Group.

The only girl Renda tolerated in his life, aside from his sister Lauri, was Posha Cummings, his childhood friend. The Cummings and the Jennings were family friends, and their children played together. Renda saw Posha as a sister and nothing more, but Posha harbored a determination to become more than just friends. In the past, she had managed to discourage any potential ladies who appeared to be interested in Renda.

Renda didn't pay much attention to Posha's actions, as he wasn't particularly interested in those who seemed to be after his wealth. He vividly remembered a post-graduation incident when his ex-girlfriend, upon learning about his family background, attempted to reconcile, but Renda was not swayed. He found her actions repulsive and developed a general mistrust toward women, considering them all to be gold diggers. This experience marked a significant shift in Renda's attitude towards relationships with the opposite sex.

There was a sudden knock at his door, "come in," he said. Mathew walked in to give him a brief rundown of today's schedule. "Mr. Jennings, if you are free, let me run down through today's schedule." Renda turned his chair around to face Mathew and said in a rather serious tone, "Go ahead."

"Today there is a presentation at 10am in regard to the proposals for the vacations homes by the Euphrates River, Project 101." Renda looked at Mathew and asked, " Who is doing the presentation?" 2 individuals from the operations and production department from the north end branch." "Hmmm, ok, remind me when it 15 minutes to the meeting, so I make my way down there." "Yes sir," Mathew responded.

" You have a Virtual Meeting today with the Sausan Group at 2pm to finalize business collaboration with them. That is all for today sir." Renda then said, "Thank you, if that is all, you may leave now," Renda dismissed Mathew.

After Mathew left, Renda took a moment to glance at the clock on the wall. It was almost time for the presentation on Project 101, the vacation homes by the Euphrates River. He wondered about the individuals presenting from the operations and production department. Renda was always keen on the details of various projects, and this one had caught his attention.

As the minutes passed, he gathered his thoughts and prepared to head down to the conference room. The success and efficiency of Magnum Group were paramount to him, and he was determined to ensure that every project met the company's high standards.

Joanna, with the upcoming presentation in mind, decided to use the restroom about 15 minutes before the scheduled time. Wandering through the hallways in search of the restroom, she, unfortunately, wasn't paying much attention to the signs and accidentally walked into the men's restroom. Oblivious to her surroundings, she entered a stall.

Moments later, a man entered the restroom, and Joanna, noticing her mistake, looked at him with wide eyes. This man, standing at about 6 feet 3 inches tall, possessed a charming dark chocolate complexion and was impeccably dressed in a grey slim-fit suit that spoke of wealth and authority.

"Excuse me, sir, but you must be in the wrong restroom. Didn't you see the sign on the door indicating it's for females?" Joanna confidently pointed out. Renda raised an amused eyebrow and calmly responded, "I believe it's the other way around. You're in the wrong restroom. Please excuse me; I need to use the facilities." Concerned, Joanna warned, "You need to leave and go to the male's restroom before I scream." Amused by the situation, Renda decided not to argue with her, opened the restroom door, and overheard Joanna muttering to herself, "damned perv."

Standing outside, Renda allowed her to finish washing her hands. As Joanna turned to leave, she suddenly noticed the urinals on the other side of the restroom stalls. Panicking, she slowly opened the door, hoping to slip away unnoticed. To her surprise, Renda was standing there, leaning against the wall with crossed arms.

Interrupting her escape, he said, "Wait a minute; you forgot something." Confused, Joanna asked, "What did I forget?" Renda, raising an eyebrow, pulled her arm gently, insisting, "Now, please apologize for being rude and calling me a pervert, because now we know who is the real perv, huh!"

Feeling guilty, Joanna looked up and apologized, "Sorry for being rude and calling you a pervert; I am actually the pervert since I entered the male's restroom." Renda, intrigued but composed, released her arm and entered the restroom without a second glance. Joanna, feeling embarrassed, rushed back to the conference room, grateful that she wouldn't have to face the handsome man again.

As Joanna settled back into her seat, the door swung open, revealing last week's delegation. In their midst stood the man she had encountered in the restroom. A sudden fidget and a knot in her stomach betrayed her nervousness. The group entered, took their seats, and Mr. Morgan Banda extended a warm welcome to everyone present.

Joanna was stunned to discover that the man from the restroom was none other than the CEO himself. An internal panic threatened to unravel her composure, but gratitude swept over her as she realized she had just visited the restroom, keeping her bladder in check. When Renda glanced in her direction with a smile, Joanna responded with a nervous chuckle.

To Joanna's surprise, the CEO, Mr. Renda Jennings, joined the gathering. He addressed the audience, assuring them of his role as a mere observer. "Please do not be bothered by my presence; I'm here to observe. Morgan is in charge of this project, so do not mind me," Renda declared.

"Morgan requested, "Ms. Rachel, please proceed and showcase your proposal." Racheal confidently rose, delivering her proposal with clarity and conciseness. She provided comprehensive explanations, supported by examples, illustrated graphs, and diagrams. The delegates responded with applause and approving nods, acknowledging the quality of her presentation.

Joanna's heart raced, realizing that Racheal presented a formidable challenge. The applause signaled a well-received proposal, heightening the pressure for Joanna as she prepared for her turn."

Morgan then turned to Joanna with a lighthearted remark, "last but not the least," he chuckled. "Please make your way to the front and give us your presentation. Joanna, it's your turn now."

Joanna stood up, a bit clumsily, almost tripping over her computer bag laid on the floor. She carefully walked to the front after connecting her presentation, taking a moment to gather her thoughts before beginning.

"I want to take you on a journey along the Euphrates River. One of the world's most famous and historically significant rivers, it has been a popular tourist attraction for centuries," she said, seamlessly incorporating a video of the Euphrates River into her presentation. "Running through Albaria, it offers a wide range of experiences and sights for tourists to enjoy."

Capitalizing on her soothing voice, Joanna detailed the historical and cultural significance of the river, emphasizing the potential for cruises. She showcased the scenic beauty, painting a vivid picture of lush vegetation, rock mountains, and picturesque landscapes. "We can offer outdoor activities ranging from fishing, sailing, and water sports. Additionally, adventure tourism opportunities, including white-water rafting and kayaking in certain sections," she continued.

Taking a moment to gauge her audience, Joanna proceeded to present the budget, timeline, evaluation, and monitoring aspects, all while discussing the sustainability of the project. "In conclusion, the Euphrates River is a tourist attraction that offers a blend of history, culture, natural beauty, and adventure. Whether tourists are interested in exploring ancient civilizations, cruising in luxury, or embarking on an adventure, the Euphrates River has something to offer for a wide range of travelers."

As Joanna concluded, the room fell silent for a few seconds before erupting in applause. She returned to her seat somewhat clumsily, not accustomed to being the center of attention, and a shy smile played on her lips.

While Joanna presented, Renda listened attentively, finding unexpected enjoyment in her proposal. Surprisingly, he found himself drawn to this woman he considered eccentric just an hour ago in the restroom. The attraction puzzled him, and unsure of what to make of it, he opted to ignore it altogether. Dealing with women was not his preference, and he preferred to keep his focus on the business at hand.

Mr. Morgan Banda rose from his seat, expressing his gratitude, "I want to extend my thanks to both of you for your outstanding proposals. I can see the effort and dedication that went into your work. The presentations were impressive. Our delegation will convene and provide feedback on the direction we choose to take by the end of the week."

Joanna, still reeling from the meeting, hurriedly approached Mr. Banda before the delegation dispersed. She felt a mix of nervousness and determination, recalling the previous week's incident. Addressing Mr. Banda, she apologized for the interruption and explained her situation, requesting that any emails regarding the results be sent to her directly. Mr. Banda, slightly surprised, agreed and took her business card.

Walking away, Joanna didn't linger for the customary departure of the delegation, including the CEO. This caught Renda Jennings' attention, and he couldn't help but do a double take as Joanna passed. The men in the group also seemed captivated, and Renda's subtle cough brought them back to attention.

Once in his office, Renda instructed Mathew to look into Joanna Johnson's background. Perplexed, Mathew asked if there was a specific reason, and Renda, maintaining an air of nonchalance, replied, "None of your business. Just get me that information." Mathew chuckled, intrigued by his boss's sudden interest in a woman.

Agatha entered the office at around 10 am, having obtained permission from her superior for what she claimed were personal matters. Her main intention, however, was to strategically avoid any encounter with Joanna. Convinced that Joanna was oblivious to the meeting at the headquarters due to her deliberate omission of sending the email, Agatha assumed Joanna was seated in her cubicle, blissfully unaware of the crucial event.

After placing her bag in her office, Agatha intended to confront Joanna directly about her absence from the meeting, accusing her of intentional avoidance. Upon entering the office, she found everyone engrossed in their work, with no sign of Joanna at her cubicle-her computer turned off. Agatha, puzzled, asked, "Where is Joanna?" Salome looked up and responded, "She's gone to attend the meeting at headquarters." Agatha, feigning surprise, quickly composed herself. "Oh, yes, I remember she had a meeting this morning," she chuckled awkwardly.

Returning to her office, Agatha seethed with anger, contemplating how to handle Joanna. Recognizing Joanna's competence as a threat to her own job, Agatha harbored personal motives beyond the pressure from Mrs. Johnson to deal with her.

Upon returning to the office, Joanna swiftly placed her bag down and hurried downstairs for her 1 pm review with the doctor in the adjacent building. The checkup unfolded positively, with the doctor noting that the blisters had dried up. Pleased with Joanna's healing progress, the doctor remarked, "You heal well; I believe you won't have any scars once it heals." Joanna left the doctor's office with a contented smile, practically skipping back to her own office.

As Thursday evening unfolded, the awaited email finally arrived. Opening it revealed warm congratulations for presenting the best proposal. Joanna was elated to learn that she was scheduled to return to the office the following Tuesday at 10 am to present her proposal to the board. The itinerary included meetings with the CEO and COO at 9 am, followed by the presentation to the board at 10 am.

Overwhelmed with joy, Joanna exclaimed, "Mama, I wish you were here with me today; I am so happy." Her excitement bubbled over, prompting her to skip around her modest apartment and sing with such gusto that her neighbor on the right knocked on her door to quieten the cheerful melodies.

The following day at work, Joanna's friends, including Salome and Fred, along with a few others, decided to treat her to a celebratory dinner in honor of her successful presentation. They extended an invitation to their boss, Agatha, as well. Meanwhile, in the afternoon, Agatha received a call from Mr. Banda, who officially informed her that Ms. Johnson would be working at the main office the following week. This arrangement was to facilitate collaboration with him and the CEO to kickstart the chosen project.

Upon hearing the news, Agatha responded, "Oh, that is great news. We're actually planning to take her out for dinner today to celebrate Joanna's victory and the selection of our team's project." Morgan suggested, "Why not take them to the Four Seasons luxury Hotel and casino on the department's tab? I'll inform them to expect you." Although Agatha feigned happiness, a subtle undertone hinted at her true sentiments.

That evening, coincidentally, Renda had a meeting at the Four Seasons with the Sausan Group to finalize the cooperation agreement. The gathering took place in a private room, with Mr. Sausan, his secretary, and personal bodyguard in attendance. Renda entered alongside Mr. Morgan Banda and his personal assistant. After the contracts were successfully signed, Renda and Mr. Sausan exchanged greetings, emphasizing solidarity and the prospect of a positive future working relationship. Following a brief discussion, they bid each other farewell.

Mr. Morgan recalled that some members of his department were having dinner at the Four Seasons, prompting him to make a detour to greet them before heading home. He informed Renda of his plan, and Renda, as a goodwill gesture to be viewed positively by his employees, decided to join him.

Approaching the group, the lively chatter suddenly quieted as they noticed the presence of their superiors. Morgan reassured them, saying, "Please, enjoy yourselves. We happened to be in the hotel for a business meeting and thought to just stop by and say hello on our way out." The group, eager to host their bosses, insisted, "Please join us; it would be an honor to dine and drink with you tonight."

Joanna, feeling a bit shy, particularly recalling her encounter with Mr. Jennings that memorable Monday morning, couldn't believe her luck that he hadn't fired her for her earlier recklessness.

Mr. Morgan Banda signaled for two additional chairs to be added to the group, and by chance, the one next to Joanna was designated for Mr. Renda Jennings. Joanna shifted uncomfortably in her seat as Renda uttered, "Ms. Johnson."

"Hello Mr. Jennings, we meet again." Renda looked at her amused. Congratulations on your proposal being selected. I must say the proposal was well done," Renda commented. He was having a good time watching Joanna fidget in her chair from embarrassment. "Thank you sir, she said.

Suddenly, Joanna stood up and excused herself to visit the restroom. Approaching the lavatory, an unsettling feeling crept over her, as if someone might be following, though she couldn't be certain. After all, this was a 7-star hotel, predominantly frequented by affluent individuals who generally kept to themselves. She entered the restroom, heading straight to a cubicle for a moment of privacy.

Upon exiting the stall, she was met with the stern gaze of a rough-looking man, his arms folded. Initially, she feared she had mistakenly entered the wrong restroom again, causing her acute embarrassment. Attempting to walk past the man, she found him blocking her way. Alarmed, Joanna questioned, "What do you think you are doing?"
