Chapter 1 Birthday party

'Please, don't stop the music!'

Music blared none stop, mixing with a high dose of alcohol, which caused each member of the gang to squeal in excitement. There was nothing more fun than celebrating a high-end party with the people you loved the most!

Matt sat at the high-end stool, watching his friends celebrate him. It was his damn birthday. He couldn't believe he was about to be a real brood. Right, it wasn't easy to cross to a new age.

"Our man is plus one," Aaron squealed.

They all laughed happily, downing their shares of Tequila. Aaron had informed them all that the drinks were on him. Matt had been thrilled because he was too broke to pay for this stuff.

"I really can't believe it," Maxwell interjected, as he grabbed the ass of one of the ladies hanging on his arm.

"You won't be able to when you're surrounded by all those petite girls," Matt teased.

His friend grinned at him. "Man, this is the life. You need one of these girls to give you a wet dream, so you can start that new life on a healthy note."

Aaron slapped a hand on Maxwell's arm. "I can't with you, man. Sex doesn't make things fall into place."

Maxwell pulled the lady closer to him, and he kissed her hard on the mouth. Matt rolled his eyes at his friend, then looked over at Aaron who made some gagging sounds. These two were clowns.

"And, it doesn't make life fall apart either," Maxwell pointed out smartly.

"Ok," Matt agreed before the boys spent the night arguing. "It's my birthday, and I decide what to do about it. In my opinion, spending time with my boys is more important than fucking random girls. My mom isn't here, but I know she is hovering over me."

The effect of those words didn't reflect on the boys, as their excitement dampened a notch.

"Now, what's the matter?" Matt queried.

"You know, you would leave us for the big city soon, and what would be our plight? The thought of that makes me feel so bad, and..."

Matt got up, and staggered on his own two feet, as he walked toward Aaron. "Hey, that's so feminine. Are the girls in this party slowly rubbing off on you?" He teased.

Aaron pretended to punch him on the arm. "That's just perfect. You can make fun of your friend all you want, if only I have half of the brains you have got and an uncle that could help me too, I'd be leaving for the city with you. So feel free to make fun of me no one will question you." Aaron said.

Matt turned to Maxwell and rose his hands dramatically upwards. "See, look at that. He has suddenly turned so emotional."

Maxwell smiled slightly, but he was equally sad about the whole thing.

Matt groaned. "Relax, guys. This is my birthday party, and no sullen faces are allowed. "I won't be too far from the two of you. You're one of my best friends, and I care about you a lot."

There was silence.

Matt was horrified that he had hurt his friend's sensibilities when he was suddenly tackled by both men. One tried to shove the tequila down his throat, the other tickled him till tears dropped from his eyes.

"Stop," he cried, laughing and gulping.

It lasted for some time, and then they stopped. The trio did what they could to bring back their composure. Matt touched his heart, as he remarked on how crazy his friends were.

Gradually, they were able to sit back in their respective places. The smiles were still on their faces. Matt refilled his glass. He could drink as much as he wants due to his high alcohol resitance but he tried not to take too much.

"Matt, we are proud of you. I mean, it's not easy to get a job in the city althoughand you made it possible. We just know your level will change by the time you get there," Maxwell.

Aaron nodded.

"Common guys, you both know it was dad that pleaded with Uncle in the city to help bget a job. It's not a big deal guys." Matt countered.

" Here he goes again, we are well aware of that, but we also know you almost lost the job, it was due to your smart talks and brain that helped you retain it, thank goodness you spoke to the boss yourself, what could have happened?, Taking some credit for yourself won't hurt Matt. It's high time you acknowledge your smart mind" Aaron countered and Maxwell nodded as well. The air was serious for some minutes until the ladies got back to it.

The girls went back to touching, and feeling Maxwell's muscles. This made him smile cheerily. Matt felt like Maxwell had planned this celebration for his benefit. Though, he drank, all the women grappling was a bit too much.

"And, don't forget that you're the one who can bring your mother out of that poverty. She can't stop talking about it," Aaron added.

"I know. Sometimes, I think it's a sort of prank or at most, a dream. I knew I was definitely going to make it happen, I was confident that this day would come but I was even prepared for it. Matt mumbled.

Maxwell used his free hands to sweep the room. "This is why we have to come here. This is a slight taste of what the city is. Clubs, and lights. A complete package."

Mat chuckled. "Max, you won't have the time for all that. Plus, I'm sure getting into clubs in the city is no easy feat. That's like a lot of money."

Aaron and Maxwell exchanged amused glances and held it. Together, they said as one, "I wish we could baptize you before you leave."

Matt rolled his eyes. "Very funny." He got up from the stool and yawned. "I have to go. Thank you for the birthday wishes. Mom would be worried if I don't get in early."

"Momma's boy," the duo teased.

Matt laughed, as he playfully said, "Shut up..."

His friends made no move to get up, they were too drunk to do that. So, he decided to see himself out. He walked through bodies sweating as they grinned themselves together. There was also a full making-out session at the other side of the bar It must be nice.

Outside, the air was just perfect, as it tousled his already tousled hair. There was no single star or moon to illuminate the sky. But, his mind went back to his mom. He was his mother's star and moon. He had to make sure that she was comfortable. The sufferings she bore on his name were too intense for otherwise. He would do anything to make sure it becomes a reality, even if he has to cook or clean for the rest of his life.

Chapter 2 Greener pastures

'All I know is that I will survive!'

Matt stepped off the bus on getting to the city. He clung to his small backpack which held the important things he would be needing. The sun was so sharp and blurred his vision slightly. He used a hand to shield his hands from the sun.

He was finally here! He had dreamt of this all through his teens, and young adults, and now, it has happened. This was a step in the right direction. If he played his cards right, he was going to be elevated from the dust to greatness. And, his mom will never have to suffer or live in that poverty-stricken house back in town.

"Mr, I'd like to take my luggage." Someone whispered behind him.

"Sorry," he said politely and stepped away from the path.

At the time, his eyes became adjusted to the sun, and he walked down the cobblestones to the house of his new master, Mr. Walter. He couldn't wait to meet the man and start the process of gaining his life back. It would bring total peace and prosperity to him.

Matt looked around as he walked. It was his first time here, and he was amazed at how busy everyone was. There were people virtually everywhere, and the complex was merged with the houses too. He couldn't help but be wowed by it all. It was just amazing.

He stopped at some point and brought out a scrapbook that had the master's address. 14, Bodice Street. He looked up once more, but couldn't see a signboard with the name of the street.

"Umm... hello?" He stopped a pedestrian about to cross the street.

The lady in blue button-necked cold, frown as she stopped. "Yes?"

Matt cleared his throat and tried not to be too intimidated by how curt she sounded. "I was on the way to Bodice Street. I don't know where it's located. Can you help out?'

She touched the top of her coat. "Don't you have a map on your phone?" She queried.

Matt frowned. "No, I don't."

"Ok. Well, it's two streets down from where we are. You just need to turn the corner. The sign is visible inside the complex and not outside," she informed him tersely.

Matt nodded his thanks and went on walking. He hoped to find some sort of favor from his master. He shouldn't be snobbish like the lady he just spoke with. Or, he may be forced to leave.

Leave?

Who was he kidding? He wasn't going to leave because he barely had a choice in this situation. He was stuck with this, and that's just it.

Matt rounded the corner, and finally saw the signboard; 'Welcome to Bodice Street' in bold letters. He looked around and was amazed at the homes here. They were so beautiful, and lively. The rich really lived in affluence.

Matt continued walking in Bodice street which he has already tagged as the street for the rich and continued looking at the house number written in all the houses around there. He stopped right in front of a beautiful mansion that had the number 14 Bodice street on it. "This must be it." He said to himself as he stood at the big and beautiful golden gate. He checked the address again and noticed he was at the right place so he cleared his throat and knocked at the gate. The security man opened the gate almost immediately.

"Are you Matt, the new housekeeper?" The security man asked before he has already been told before now about his arrival and he had been waiting for him almost forever.

"Yes, I am." Matt quickly said.

"Alright come in." The security man told me and opened the gate for him to enter which he quickly did.

"Now come with me." The security man said, after locking up the gate and starting to lead the way.

Matt was amazed at the beauty of the mansion that he could help but glance around as the security man led the way. The house was arranged and decorated with luxury furniture, it look so maleficent. Matt couldn't help but kept staring all until they got to the main door which was made of glass and a very high-quality glass at that. The security man opened the door and they both walked in.

"Have you sat here, while I send a maid to call the boss?" The security man said, and Matt had his seat on the couch which was so soft and welcoming.

The security man sent a maid to call their boss Mr. Walter before finally walking back to Matt where he was sitting.

"I have sent someone to call our boss and he would be with you shortly but I have to get going now, see you later." The security man said,

"Alright thanks a lot, I appreciate it," Matt told him, and he just nodded with a smile before walking away.

Matt sat comfortably on the couch as he waited for the boss to arrive. He glanced at the beautiful sitting room and all the classic and expensive things in it. The huge television set hanging on the wall was displaying a TV show but his eyes couldn't just remain in it because the whole sitting room was more fun to watch and anything else he likes was as beautiful as the whole house looks.

Just when he was still glancing around the sitting room his eyes fell on an old man in his sixties walking into the sitting room. "That must be Mr. Walter." He said within him, as he approached him.

"Are you Matt?" The man asked rudely.

"Yes sir," Matt answered calmly, as the maid had his seat on a couch that looks like a king's throne.

"Matt, you are the new housekeeper right?" The man asked again.

"Yes sir," Matt answered again.

"So what is a housekeeper doing sitting on my multi-million couch and even daring to talk to me while still sitting down." The man said rudely, making Matt feel so lowly of himself, and quickly got up on his feet.

"I'm very sorry sir." Matt quickly apologized.

"So sorry for yourself, anyways I should probably tell you your duties in here." The man said.

Chapter 3 Beginning of misery

Matt remain standing as the old man started telling him his duties in the house and he only nodded in response to this new rude boss.

"So you can begin with your duties immediately but first the maid would show you to your room so you could drop your bags and begin with your work immediately." Mr. Walter said,

"Yes, sir it's understood." Matt managed to answer.

"Ok, one more thing, I don't tolerate a lazy worker, so you have to be active at every given time if you want to continue working in my house." Mr. Walker said,

"Ok sir, it's understood," Matt replied, and Mr. Walter called a maid and ask her to take him to his room.

"Come with me." The maid said leading the way as Matt followed behind her. He was a little upset about the fact that Mr. Walter just told him how much of a low life he was but he couldn't help but kept glancing at the beautiful house as they continued walking. He was a little relieved seeing the house and the sadness in his heart slowly disappeared as he walked in.

The maid stopped right in front of a room and opened the door with a key. "Come in," the maid said and walked into the room.

Matt also walked into the room and the maid handed over the keys to him. " Here is your room, so just drop your luggage and got and resume immediately with your duties as the boss said earlier." The maid advised, and turned to leave.

"Wait." He stopped her and she turned back to him.

"What now?" She asked.

"Is the boss always that rude towards his workers?" He asked.

"You haven't seen anything yet and you are already complaining, I will only advice you if you don't want to see how rude he can be you would drop your luggage immediately and get down there to start working immediately, and as for me I don't want to see his rude side, so I'm off now." The maid said, and turned around and started walking away.

Matt sighed and walked over to his closet and quickly flipped it open and drop his luggage in. He took off his clothes and change into something more suitable for work before walking out of his bedroom. First of all, he needs to do a good cleaning on the house because it was dusty, no wonder Mr. Walter told him to get to work immediately. He sighed and started to find his way around the house. He met the maid again in the kitchen while just walking around and stood in front of her.

"Please I'm so sorry to disturb you but I don't know my way around, I need some direction here, please I need your help with that." He told her.

"Ok, it's fine I will help you out since I'm less busy though." She said,

"Alright, thanks." Matt smiled and they both started walking out. The maid started showing Matt around the house and where setting things were kept in the house and also show him where the dogs were. But he can't start cleaning the house immediately because he has to first know his way around.

After the maid has shown him all he needed to see, she returned to the kitchen to start making dinner while he also picked up a bucket and mop and started cleaning the house. He started from the kitchen and cleaned it down to the kitchen before proceeding to the rooms. He started cleaning the rooms one after the other until he was finally done cleaning. After cleaning he went back to the kitchen and took the dogs which the cook has already set aside for him. She show it to him immediately he walked into the kitchen and he mouthed a 'thank you before walking out of the kitchen.

While cleaning the words of the master kept resounding in his head. He likes everywhere sparkling clean? That wasn't his duty. He had gone there as the housekeeper, he should be the head of the labourers. But here he was cleaning like his life depends on it. What choice does he have? He just couldn't bare the thought of returning to the his mother without nothing to show for it.

Matt went straight to where the cook Ann has shown him earlier and immediately he saw the dogs he gasped seeing how huge they were and he was also so scared. He thought of going back and not feeding them but he knew that would make him receive some mean words from Mr. Walter and he doesn't want that to happen. He stood there for a while and finally summoned the courage and went closer to the dogs. He succeeded in feeding them dogs that evening too without anything before they all retired back to his room for the night.

Very early the next morning he woke up and rushed into his restroom to ease himself and brushed his teeth before changing into something more suitable for work before walking out of his room. He grabbed the mop and bucket and started again with his daily routine of cleaning the entire house. He was done cleaning after a few hours of cleaning the huge house and he returned the mop and bucket to the bathroom and washed them up before keeping them. He went back to his room and heard straight to his bathroom. After bathing, he walked over to the kitchen and took the dog's food, and went to feed them immediately.

After he had walked in the house for a few weeks without getting into any trouble with his boss. His boss called all his workers in the evening after dinner, and they were all gathered in the sitting room. They were just three anyway but Mr Walter like to act like the entire planet works for him.

Mr. Walker walked into their midst and had his seat. He told them that he was traveling and he would bring send someone else who would come and watch over his house in his absence. They all nodded in agreement before he dismissed them. He got prepared the next morning and left for the airport.

After waiting for about two days for the person that would be in charge in their boss's absence to come but didn't see anyone.

One morning, Matt was done feeding the dogs so he started walking back into the house but he met someone else, a beautiful woman he couldn't explain. She was dressed like a cowgirl with nice shoes and blue denim jeans.

With his mouth ajar, all he could think was " who is this woman?"
