Chapter 1 The Breaking Point

ARIELLE POV

Happiness in the life of anyone will be empty.

As Arielle stared at her phone, all she kept thinking about is where it had gone wrong.

A call came from the police earlier and they informed her about Adrian her brother in their custody.

This news is coming hours after she was fired from her work place for alleged misappropriation of company money.

Arielle felt like everything is crumbling and there is nothing she could do about it.

The repetitive beeping sound of the monitor and the sudden opening of a door brings her back to reality and away from her thoughts.

"You are still here?" The doctor asked in disbelief.

"I need to be sure that grandma is okay" She replied, stepping away from the bed.

The doctor proceeds to the bedside, taking his time while examining Arielle's grandma and she watched him with intent.

"How is she feeling doctor?"

"Her condition is stable for now" He revealed, pulling off a note from his pocket and scribbling down a couple of information.

Arielle studied her grandma's condition for a brief moment.

Her breathing had become stable and it brought a spark of hope to Arielle, knowing she is going to get better.

"Miss Arielle. I think you should go home and freshen up. You have been here for several hours now" Doctor Miles said with a look of concern on his face.

"But I want to be by her side, to be sure that she will be fine." She argued.

"Your grandma will be fine. I am not satisfied seeing you look this way" He insists and gave a sympathetic smile.

After much thought, Arielle agreed with doctor Miles and leave the ward and subsequently the hospital.

The sun is out and very hot. It almost felt like the rain had not poured in years, when in reality it fell last night.

As Arielle walk through the lonely road alone, she felt empty. All shekeep thinking about is how she is going to get Adrian out of the prison.

Approaching the muddy part of the streets, she heard the sound of a car approaching and Arielle stepped aside. As the car moved past her, it splashed so much mud on her face.

"What the hell!" She screamed, staring down at her tainted muddy shirt. "You are such a stupid and reckless driver!" She yelled out in anger.

The car held the breaks and made a U-turn approaching her direction.

Arielle take a step backwards as the car parked properly. The door opened and a man dressed up in a black Armani suit stepped out of the car.

"Are you blind?" She asked and he remained calm, leaning his body by his car. This got her really furious.

"You are such a stupid man and I can see you have no respect for road users..."

The mere fact that he did not respond but remained stoic got Arielle's core stomach boiling with rage.

"Or maybe you are deaf.." She suggested.

The man pulled out his dark shade and a beautiful pair of bright blue eyes met hers. He held no emotion on his face as he gazed at Arielle.

Suddenly, he turned around and reached inside of his car. He pulled out a brown envelope and dropped it in front of Arielle, taking her off guard.

"That should cover for your dress. Maybe next time you will learn to leave the road when you hear a car approaching"

Something inside of Arielle snapped and without thinking, her hand connects his chin the impact forcing him to latch unto his cheeks, as he stared at Arielle in disbelief.

"You are such an arrogant fool! I can see you are one of these spoilt rich brats!" She did not held her tongue back despite knowing the action was wrong.

She kicked the brown envelope into the mud and walked out of him.

As she walks away Logan Lutherfold stared at her, the shock of the slap still lingering.

No one has ever talked back at him. Neither has anyone dared laid a finger on his face.

As Arielle moved farther distance, Logan vowed to make sure she pays for laying her hands on him.

When Arielle arrived at her apartment, she cast her thoughts back to the incident that happened along the road. She smiled inwardly thinking the man deserved what was coming to him.

Her phone begins to ring and Arielle discovers the number had no name tag to it.

"Miss Areille?" A warm feminine voice came through the receiver.

"Yes?" Arielle replied with curiosity.

"My name is Jessica, I am a member of the Home and Welfare department of state." She introduced.

"Okay?"

"We receive information that your house rent has been long over due and we will like to inform you that members of our department will be coming over to get your things out"

The news came as shock to Arielle. She got up from the couch and moved to the window. She pulled the curtains and several cars arrived at the premises.

"Please can I at least be given a few time to talk this out with your boss?" She pleaded.

"I am sorry ma, we got specific orders to get your load out of the house. The property has been bought by someone else."

"By who?" Arielle asked, but their conversation is interrupted with a loud bang at the door.

"I am guessing my team has arrived. Have a good day ma'am"

"No wait!"

Arielle tried to say something, but the caller had cut the phone off.

She cursed underneath her voice and proceeds to get the door open.

The men by the door said no words. They pushed her aside and walk into the room pulling off several of her property.

"No...Wait. This is not fair...Careful with the frame!" She yelled.

"Sign here Miss Arielle"

She turned around and a petite looking woman mentioned, pointing to a space in her book with a pen in her hand.

"Please. You cannot do this to me. There is so much going on in my life, you cannot render me homeless" Arielle struggled to hold back the tears in her eyes.

"I am sorry ma'am. There is nothing we can do about it." She replied.

Arielle sighed and grabbed the pen, noting down her signature. She looked up to see half of her property already out of the house.

"Just trying to be kind, your house was bought by Logan Lutherfold. He is a rich man and I think you can track him down and speak with him" She said.

A spark of hope filled Arielle. If she can somehow convince him, she will be able to gain her house back.

Chapter 2 The Devil's Bargain

Arielle looked up at the almost six foot long building towering over the heart of the city.

She could not believe that she had finally made it to the Fashion house. She had done a background check on the city and made the discovery of the owner of the store Logan Lutherhold is the owner.

From her research, she was glad they needed new workers. She smiled remembering the effort her grandma had to go through in making sure that she learned the art of fashion.

I am not going to fail you grandma.

Arielle walked inside the fashion house and met with a young maiden whose attention were on the screen of her monitor.

"Good morning.."

"Mr. Logan has no meeting with anyone today" She replied, not making any effort to look at Arielle.

"I am here because of the job offer." She said trying to keep her tone confident.

The young maiden tore her gaze away from the monitor and take a moment to look at her with scrutiny. Arielle did not like the woman's gaze.

"Are you sure you have experience in the fashion world?" She asked looking her up and down.

"I...I" Arielle wanted to speak but instantly realized the woman had thrown a subtle shade at her style of dress.

"The requirement states that we should wear simple clothes." She replied.

After a few more minutes of scrutiny, the young woman reached out to the telephone and placed it on her ear.

"Sorry to disturb you sir. One of the job applicant is here to meet with you" She said and after a few more seconds on the telephone, she dropped the device.

"Use the elevator and move three doors to your right" She announced and returned to her gaze to the monitor.

Arielle moved to proceed to the elevator, she recalled the lady's instruction and on arrival at the door. She saw the label on the door

CEO'S OFFICE

Arielle take a deep breath and knocked at the door.

There is no response and she knocked again.

"Are you deaf!" She heard a heavy deep voice and instinctively pulled the door opened.

"Good morning.....sir"

Arielle froze at the spot the moment she gazed at the familiar face seated on the couch. Her hands became sweat and her knees became weak.

This cannot be happening. Why has lady luck chosen to ruin my life?

The man seated before her as Logan Lutherhold is the same person she had slapped days ago.

"Well.. Well... Well... Who do we have here?" He said, reclining back on his couch as he cracked a smile on his face.

"I...I am sorry" She pleaded.

"You should have said that few days ago." Logan replied.

He reached towards his drawer and picked out a brown envelope. He dropped the envelope on the table for Arielle to see.

"Remember this?" He asked, taunting her with his evil smile.

"I am sorry for everything.." Arielle's voice was cracking as she spoke.

"Let me have your paper work"

Arielle looked up at him. She could not believe if she heard him right or she has been hallucinating.

"I said let me have your paper work..." He said stretching his hands forward.

Arielle rose up to her feet and reached out to her bag to grab her credentials. Her hands were still sweating when she handed them over to Logan.

"Oh and by the way I bought your house few days ago" He revealed casually.

Arielle is shocked by the revelation.

"I understand that you were angry and you have every right to be. But slapping me on the face made me really mad" Logan said.

"And I said I am sorry" Arielle stepped forward. "Please, I need this house more than anything else in the world. My grand ma is ..."

She is not allowed to complete her words as Luther raised his hand making the gesture for her to keep quiet.

"Your credential looks good" He said with an impressive smile and turned his attention towards Arielle. "So give me one reason why I should not tear them right now and send you out of my office" He said, the tone of his voice ice cold.

"I need this job sir. My grandma is in the hospital and my brother is in prison. I am all they got left." She revealed.

"Your reasons do not convince me" Logan said.

Arielle's heart begins to beat faster as he reached out to his drawer and pull out a document .

"Take this. I want you to take your time and read through the document" Logan instructed.

Arielle collects the document and consumes the content. "I...I don't understand sir. What is this?" She asked.

"Here is the deal. I will let you get your house back, pay your grandma's hospital bill and also inform the police to release your brother on the condition that you will sign that contract" He explained in detail.

"And if I refuse?" Arielle asked.

"Then I will file an assault case against you and have the police lock you up just like your brother" Logan informed her.

The tension becomes thick for Arielle. She stared down at Logan for a moment.

There is no denying that he is handsome and well to do. Arielle's only problem with him is the attitude and the ego he portrayed.

"I have a meeting in six minutes. I don't have all the time in the world young lady" Logan said, while checking his wrist watch.

"Is there no other way we can sort this out?" Arielle asked.

Logan rose to his feet and grabbed his Armani suit.

Arielle is nervous as he wore his suit and grabbed a few of his document. "You will hear from the police" He said and tried to walk away, but Arielle held his arm and he stopped.

"Please..." She said tears in her eyes. "Fine, I will sign the contract." She added, wiping away the tears.

"Now that is what I am talking about." He said and reached out to his bag and bring the marriage contract out.

As Arielle signs the document, something deep inside of her tells her she is signing a contract with the devil.

Chapter 3 Under His Control

By the time they got back into the car, Arielle checked her phone and realized she had missed Doctor Miles call.

She tried calling back and he picked almost immediately.

"Thank goodness. Arielle it is been two weeks. We have been trying to reach you." Doctor Miles said.

"Please is my grand ma okay?" Arielle asked, her face etched with concern.

"We need to take care of her surgery. All you need to do is pay the bills and the final surgery will commence."

Arielle's mind is running with several thoughts as the doctor spoke.

"Alright, I will try and raise the money" Arielle assured and the doctor hang up afterwards.

"Your grandma?" Logan asked after she hangs up the phone.

"The doctor says she is going to need another surgery. I will have to pay first before they can commence the surgery."

"You are not paying for anything. Text the doctor and give him my number to call me. Your grandma will be flown out of the country for the surgery" Logan assured.

Arielle paused and observed him for a moment. He did not look like he was joking.

"Thank you very much....I guess" She said.

"I am not the monster that you take me for. I just don't like being disrespected" Logan revealed. He turned to Arielle's direction.

"Oh and don't think I am doing you a favor. This is just me honoring the contract that you signed"
