Introduction

Scarlett Morgan, a college student, lived paycheck to paycheck, working miserable jobs.

For a year, she played the ultimate fangirl, utterly devoted to arrogant football captain, Blake Cunningham.

Every demeaning errand, every public snub, she accepted with a forced smile.

It was all part of a twisted, high-stakes bet against her childhood rival, Julian Vance.

The Christmas Gala, the bet's deadline, had arrived.

Scarlett, homemade cake in hand, prepared for the final act: a public "love" confession to Blake.

But an enraged Tiffany Hayes, Blake's childhood friend, suddenly attacked.

Tiffany, seeing Julian's protective move, smashed a cake onto his face.

As the university clock chimed midnight, shattering the ballroom's silence, Scarlett's control snapped.

A year of feigned adoration and silent suffering boiled over.

The carefully constructed "simp" mask crumbled.

This was now about every insult, every patronizing glance, every humiliation she had endured.

How dare they treat Scarlett Anastasia Morgan, a hidden heiress, with such contempt?

Fueled by simmering fury, Scarlett unleashed a shocking public retaliation.

The game was over, but the real reckoning had just begun.

Chapter 1

Scarlett Morgan wiped sweat from her forehead. The Pacific State University coffee shop was busy. Morning rush. She handed a latte to a student, forcing a smile.

"Thanks, Scar," he mumbled, already scrolling on his phone.

Then Blake Cunningham walked in. Captain of the football team. Golden boy. Son of some California real estate guy.

Scarlett' s heart did a stupid flip. This was part of the act. The biggest fan girl.

"Blake!" she called out, maybe too loud. "Your usual?"

Blake barely glanced at her. He was with a girl, a cheerleader Scarlett didn't recognize. New one.

"Yeah, whatever. And one for her. Make it fast."

He turned his back, laughing at something the girl said. Dismissive. Always.

Scarlett made the coffees, her hands steady. She was used to this.

She called his name. He sauntered over, took the cups without a thank you.

"Here," he said, tossing a crumpled five-dollar bill on the counter. It didn't even cover one drink.

Scarlett picked it up. "Thanks, Blake! Have a great day!"

He was already gone.

Tiffany Hayes, head cheerleader, Blake' s childhood friend, stepped up to the counter. She smirked.

"Still chasing him, Morgan? Pathetic."

"Just doing my job, Tiffany."

"Right. Your job as PSU' s number one loser."

Tiffany ordered an elaborate drink, complained it wasn't right, then "accidentally" spilled it near the register.

"Oops. Clumsy me."

Scarlett cleaned it up, biting her tongue. The manager watched, frowning at Scarlett.

Later, shelving books in the quiet library, her second job, Scarlett felt the exhaustion. Three jobs. For this. For the bet.

She had to buy Blake gifts. And gifts for his girlfriends. Run his stupid errands.

Her phone buzzed. A text from her roommate, Chloe.

Chloe: You okay? Saw Blake earlier. He' s a jerk.

Scarlett texted back: Fine. Just tired.

Chloe: You deserve better, Scar.

Scarlett knew. But "better" wasn't the point right now. Winning was. One year. This ridiculous, self-imposed poverty. This act.

Julian Vance, her rival, her oldest friend, was probably going through his own version of hell with Tiffany.

The thought almost made her smile. Almost.

Chapter 2

The text from Blake came at 6 AM.

Blake: Need breakfast. That new food truck. The one in LA. Get the avocado toast with the chili flakes. And one for Brittany.

Brittany. So that was the new girl' s name.

LA? That was a two-hour drive. For a food truck.

Scarlett typed back: On it, Blake!

This was part of the game. Endure.

She called out of her morning coffee shop shift. Took her beat-up car. Drove to Los Angeles. Found the trendy truck. Waited in line for forty-five minutes. Paid with her dwindling cash.

The specific avocado toast. Two orders. Carefully packaged.

She drove back to PSU, straight to Blake' s frat house.

He was on the porch with Brittany, who looked bored.

"Finally," Blake said, grabbing the bag. "Took you long enough."

He handed one box to Brittany. She opened it, wrinkled her nose.

"Ew, chili flakes? I hate spicy." She pushed it away.

Blake glared at Scarlett. "You messed it up. She hates spicy."

"You said chili flakes," Scarlett said, her voice carefully neutral.

"Well, I meant for mine! God, can't you do anything right?" Blake tossed his own uneaten toast in a nearby trash can. "Waste of my time."

Brittany giggled.

Scarlett just stood there. The humiliation was a familiar coat. She pulled it tighter.

Later, delivering food for "PSU Eats," her third job, she saw Julian across the quad. He was holding a giant teddy bear and a bouquet of roses, looking miserable, trailing after Tiffany Hayes.

Tiffany was laughing with her friends, pointedly ignoring him.

Julian caught Scarlett' s eye for a split second. A flicker of shared understanding. Shared suffering.

He was simping hard for Tiffany. Just like she was for Blake.

The bet. Who could survive a year like this, without family money, and date the most popular person on campus?

Blake for her. Tiffany for him.

The Christmas Gala was the deadline. Months away. An eternity.

Scarlett clutched the delivery bag tighter. She had to win.
