Author: : Eva Poe
Genre: Billionaires
Trapped in a fake engagement, Emily Wilson must navigate the treacherous world of billionaire Ryder Blackwood's making. But as his secrets surface, can she escape the possessive grip of a man who refuses to love?"

Chapter 1 The Unexpected Proposal

I adjusted my clipboard, surveying the lavish ballroom. My event planning company had transformed the space into a fairy tale, complete with crystal chandeliers and a live string quartet. The evening's charity gala would be the talk of the town.

Just as I confirmed the catering details, a deep voice interrupted my thoughts.

"Emily Wilson?"

I turned to face the speaker, my eyes widening. Ryder Blackwood, billionaire entrepreneur and notorious bachelor, and my boss. Actually, my company's client was hosting the gala, as he was the one who invited us. He stood before me. His chiseled features and piercing blue eyes made my pulse quicken.

"Mr. Blackwood," I replied, extending my hand. He shook it firmly. "Please, call me Ryder. May I have a word?"I followed him to a secluded corner, curiosity piqued. What could Ryder Blackwood want with me?

"I've been impressed with your work, Emily," Ryder began. "Your attention to detail is unmatched."

"Thank you, sir," I replied, trying to sound professional despite the flutter in my chest.

"I have a proposal for you." His gaze locked onto mine, intense. "I need a fake fiancée for the next few months. Are you interested?"

My eyes widened. A fake fiancée? Was he kidding? Ryder's expression remained serious. "I'm finalizing a major business deal, and my investors require... stability. A fiancée would convey that.

I hesitated, weighing the pros and cons. My sister's medical bills loomed, and this opportunity could solve our financial struggles. But what would it cost me?

"What?" I asked, surprised. Mr Blackwood merely acknowledged my astonishment and continued

"You'll accompany me to events, pose for photos, and maintain the illusion," Ryder outlined. "In return, I'll pay off your sister's medical debts and provide a substantial stipend."

My heart skipped a beat. How the hell did he know about my sister? The offer was tempting, but something in Ryder's eyes made me wary.

I'm sorry, could you repeat that?" I asked, stunned. "You want me to pretend to be your fiancée?" Ryder nodded, his expression unreadable.

"Yes. It's a simple arrangement. You'll accompany me to events, pose for photos, and maintain the illusion."

I shook my head, trying to process. "And why would I do that?" Ryder's eyes narrowed slightly. "I'll pay off your sister's medical debts and provide a substantial stipend." My mind raced. The offer was enticing, but the absurdity of the proposal made me hesitant.

"I don't understand," I said, trying to clarify. "Why do you need a fake fiancée? Can't you just find someone... genuine?" Ryder's jaw clenched. "This is business, Emily. I don't have time for genuine relationships." His words sent a shiver down my spine. This was a man who saw people as assets, not individuals. "I'm not sure," I hedged, unsure if I wanted to get entangled in Ryder's world. Ryder's eyes flashed with impatience. "Don't play coy, Emily. You need the money, and I need the image. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement."His blunt words stung. Did he think I was that desperate?

"What's the catch?" I asked, searching for hidden strings.

Ryder's expression turned cold. "You'll adhere to my rules. No engaging with other men, no revealing our arrangement, and absolute discretion."

"I need time to think," I said, stalling.

Ryder's gaze intensified. "You have 24 hours. After that, the offer expires." With that, he turned and walked away, leaving me reeling.

What had just happened? Was I considering selling myself to a billionaire for the sake of my sister's medical bills? As I watched Ryder disappear into the crowd, I felt a shiver run down my spine.

As the event came to an end, I could still feel the gaze of Ryder on my back, watching my every turn. The question that kept ringing in my ear was, Why me? Mr Blackwood has been a long-time client of her company, as they have handled all his events, and they've crossed paths a few times, but I never thought he knew my name, let alone my personal life!

Feeling vulnerable, I gathered my things, my mind in a whirlwind of questions I was unable to answer. Saying my goodbyes to my colleagues, I got into my car and drove out.

The next morning, I arrived at my office, still lost in thought. My best friend, Rachel, greeted me with a concerned expression. "Emily, how was the gala?" she asked. I filled her in on Ryder's proposal, leaving out no details. Rachel's eyes widened. "Emily, this is huge! But are you sure you're ready for this?"

Biting my lips, I shook my head. "I don't know. I need time to think."

Just then, my phone buzzed. Mr. Blackwood's name flashed on the screen. "Emily," he said, his voice low and commanding. "I expect your answer soon.

"Emily, this is insane!" Rachel exclaimed. "You can't seriously consider pretending to be his fiancée."

"I know, but Sarah's medical bills..." I trailed off. Rachel's expression softened. "I get it. But think about the emotional toll. You'll be tied to this guy for months, pretending to be in love." Her words resonated. I valued my independence and honesty.

"Let's keep this between me and you for now. " I said, Rachel nodding, looking very unpleased.

That evening, I drove to the hospital. Tears streamed down my face, as I struggled to steady my breath. "You've got this," I whispered to myself, watching as the nurses went in and out of the hospital. I picked up my phone and got down of the car, and headed inside.

I got to her room, standing by the door, I watched as she struggled to breathe, even with the oxygen attached to her face. A tear escapes my eye. I whipped it off immediately, and she spotted me and smiled weakly. I walked up to her and sat beside her hospital bed, holding her frail hand.

"Hey, sis," I said, trying to sound cheerful. "I have something to tell you."

Sarah's eyes sparkled with curiosity." What is it, Emily?"

I hesitated, unsure how to share Ryder's proposal. "There's this... opportunity," I began. "A way to pay off your medical bills, but it's complicated." Sarah's grip on my hand tightened. "Tell me," she urged.

"I can't, I'm sorry," I said, begging her with my eyes. "But I promise, you'll get your surgery done and I'll get you out of here."

"What are you going to do, Emily?" she asked, worry etched on her features. I shrugged. "It's nothing for you to worry about." I smiled weakly. Sarah's eyes locked onto mine.

"Emily, I don't want you to sacrifice your happiness for me," she said, her voice trembling. "But... I don't know how much longer I can keep fighting."

Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes. Sarah's words broke my heart. "We'll figure it out together," I promised, hugging her tight. As I held Sarah close, I realized I needed to make a decision.

Chapter 2 Bound By Contract

As I held Sarah close, I knew I couldn't tell her about Ryder's proposal. Not yet.

After visiting Sarah, I returned home, my mind racing with conflicting emotions. I paced around my living room, weighing the pros and cons.Pros:

Pay off Sarah's medical debts

Financial security

Possibly save my event planning business

Cons: Pretending to be Ryder's fiancée

Losing my independence

Dealing with Ryder's cold, calculating nature. Just as I thought I'd made up my mind to decline, Ryder's words echoed in my mind:"You need the money, and I need the image. It's a mutually beneficial arrangement."

Was I ready to sacrifice my happiness for Sarah's well-being? The next morning, I arrived at my office, still undecided. Rachel noticed my distress. "Emily, what's going on? You're still thinking about Ryder's proposal, aren't you?"

I nodded.

."What are you going to do?" Rachel asked.

I took a deep breath. "I don't know."

Just then, my phone buzzed. Ryder's name flashed on the screen. "Emily," he said, his voice low and commanding. "I expect your answer by tomorrow." My heart skipped a beat. "Ryder, I..." I hesitated.

"Tomorrow, Emily," Ryder repeated. "Don't miss this opportunity." The line went dead. I looked at Rachel. "I have to make a decision." Rachel's expression turned serious. "What's your gut telling you?"

I closed my eyes, searching for an answer. Opening my eyes I looked at Rachel, who stood waiting for my answer.

"I'll get back to you." I said, walking into my office.

I placed my bag on the table and sat down taking a deep breath and dialed Ryder's number. "Ryder, it's Emily," I said, my voice steady. "I accept your proposal." Ryder's tone remained neutral. "I'll send over the contract and details. Review them carefully."

"Wait, Ryder," I interjected. "I have conditions." "Go on," Ryder said, his interest piqued.

"I want a guarantee that my sister's medical bills will be paid in full, regardless of the outcome of our arrangement."

"Done," Ryder replied. "Anything else?"

"I want to know more about the business deal and why you need a fake fiancée."Ryder paused. "You'll learn more soon enough. For now, just understand that discretion is key." I hesitated, unsure if I should press further.

"Emily, trust me," Ryder said, his voice softer. "This will benefit both of us."I swallowed hard, hoping I wasn't making a mistake."Send over the contract," I said finally.

The Contract arrived via email, detailing the terms:

Duration: 6 months

Public appearances: As required

Confidentiality: Absolute

Compensation: $500,000 + payment of Sarah's medical bills.

I reviewed the contract, "I have to do this for Sarah." I repeated to myself.

I sent Ryder an amended contract, including my additional conditions: No physical or sexual contact between us.

I'm allowed to continue working at my event planning company.

I'm free to go out and socialize whenever I want, without needing Ryder's approval.

Ryder's response came quickly. "Emily, I understand your concerns, but I must disagree with the last point," Ryder wrote. I called him immediately.

"What's the issue, Ryder?" I asked." Your freedom to go out and socialize can compromise our arrangement," Ryder explained. "We need to maintain a united front. I require you to clear your social schedule with me."I bristled. "That's unacceptable. I won't be trapped."

Ryder's tone turned cold. "This is non-negotiable, Emily. You'll do as I say." I stood firm. "No, Ryder. I won't compromise my independence. Take it or leave it." The line went silent.

"Fine. We'll compromise. You'll inform me of your social plans, but you won't need explicit approval. However, you must ensure our arrangement remains private." I hesitated, weighing the concession."

"Deal," I said finally. Ryder's tone softened slightly. "I'll send over the revised contract."

The updated contract arrived, reflecting our agreement. I scanned the revised contract, my eyes widening at the new clause:

"Article 7: Co-Habitation; To maintain the illusion of a genuine relationship, Emily Wilson agrees to relocate to Ryder Blackwood's primary residence for the duration of the agreement." My heart sank.

"Ryder, this is unacceptable," I protested over the phone.

"Emily, it's necessary," Ryder countered. "The public won't believe our engagement if you're living in a... less-than-desirable neighborhood."

I bristled. "My neighborhood isn't 'less-than-desirable.' It's my home."

Ryder's tone turned cold. "Your home is a liability. You'll move in with me, effective immediately."

I hesitated, unsure if I could compromise on this."But what about my independence?" I asked.

"You'll have all the independence you need within my estate," Ryder replied. "You'll have your own wing, and staff will attend to your needs."

The thought of living under Ryder's roof, with his staff watching my every move, made me uneasy.

"What about my business?" I pressed.

"You can continue to run your event planning company remotely or from my office," Ryder said. "I'll provide any necessary resources."

"No, if we go public, people will talk. So I'll still go to my company. I cannot bear them saying I'm relying on you for everything"

"Fair enough." He grunted

I felt trapped.

"Emily, this is non-negotiable," Ryder said, his voice firm. "Take it or leave it."

I weighed my options, in silence.

With a heavy heart, I agreed."Fine, Ryder. I'll move in."

Ryder's response came quickly.

"Excellent. My staff will assist with the relocation. Expect them tomorrow."

I signed it, feeling a mix of relief and trepidation. What had I just gotten myself into?As I looked at the contract, I realized that Ryder's insistence on controlling my social life was unsettling

Sending him the signed document, Ryder's response "Welcome to our arrangement, Emily. Our first public appearance is tomorrow night." My heart skipped a beat. What have I gotten myself into?

Chapter 3 An Evening At The Estate

I ended the call with Ryder, feeling a mix of emotions. My phone buzzed with an incoming text from Ryder.

"Tomorrow's event details:

Time: 8 PM

Location: The Grand Ballroom

Attire: Formal

Arrival: 7:30 PM sharp

Be ready."

I took a deep breath, resting back on my chair, Rachel walked into my office, concern etched on her face."Em, are you okay? You look pale."

"I'm fine," I reassured her. "Just nervous about tomorrow." Rachel nodded. "You'll do great. Just remember, it's all an act."

I forced a smile. That night, I hardly slept, my mind racing with thoughts of Ryder and our impending public appearance. The Next Morning, Ryder's staff arrived promptly at 9 AM to assist with my relocation. I watched as they efficiently packed my belongings. As I handed over my keys, a pang of sadness hit me.

Was I losing myself in this arrangement? Upon arriving at Ryder's estate, I was struck by its grandeur. The opulent decor and manicured lawns overwhelmed me. Ryder greeted me formally, his expression unreadable."Welcome to your new home, Emily."

I nodded, still taking in my surroundings.

Ryder handed me a small, intricately designed box

."A gift," he said. "For tomorrow night."

I opened the box, revealing a stunning diamond necklace. "Mr Blackwood, it's beautiful," I said, eyeing the piece of jewelry in my hand. why is he gifting me things already? Ryder's gaze softened slightly. "Wear it tomorrow. It will complement your dress."

For a moment, I saw a glimmer of kindness in his eyes, but it vanished as quickly as it appeared.

"Shall we review tomorrow's schedule?" Ryder asked, his tone back to business. I nodded, steeling myself for the evening ahead.

" Tomorrow, I'll introduce you as my fiancée," he started. "There'll be a lot of high society men and women and mostly especially, my business partners, so ensure that you are on your best behavior." He said, in a rather admonishing tune. I furrowed my brows, " I'm not a child, Mr Blackwood. Don't treat me like one." I stated, anger cussing through me. Just because i agreed to this arrangement doesn't give him the right to talk to me like that.

"Right, I'll keep that in mind." He grunted.

"Look, if you want this to work, you better act the part," I said, my heart beating fast against my skin as I walked up to him. " I'm not one of those girls who throw themselves at you. I only agreed to this because of my sister's health," I added, looking him dead in the eye.

Slightly bending his head to the side, a small smile appeared on his lips, while he stared at me like I was some clown. "We'll see about that," he said and turned around.

I hated him already. I rolled my eyes at his back.

"Emily," he called, standing at the doorway. "A few reminders," he said, his eyes scanning me." Smile, but not too much. Laugh, but not too loudly. And under no circumstances, speak about our arrangement."

I swallowed, feeling a mix of nerves and annoyance. What the hell is wrong with him?!

Walking back up to me, he handed me a small card. "Your script for the evening. Memorize it."

I scanned the card, "What is this? A movie?" He ignored me, looking for a reaction on my face. My heart sank, but I masked my emotions like I always did. "This is a lot to remember," I protested, glancing through the notes on the card.

Ryder's expression turned cold. "You'll manage. The staff will show you to your room." He turned and started walking, pausing halfway and speaking, " In here, you are nobody to me. Don't stick your nose in my business and stay out of my way. Then we'll be fine." He said in a cold voice and walked out.

I bit my lower lip to restrict myself from screaming. "Breathe, Emily, just breathe," I said, calming myself down.

"Miss?" A bulky-looking Man, boy?, called from my side.

"Yeah?" I eyed him. Damn! he was tall.

"I'm James. if you need anything, let me know, but for now, allow me to show you your room."

I'm sure he saw the hesitation on my face when he smiled. It looked weird.

"I'm not going to kill you, so just follow me." He said.

"How old are you?" I asked, "Sorry, I can't help it, you look so young yet...." I drilled off, mentally face-palming myself, just great, Emily.

He smiled again. "I get that a lot, I'm 23,"

"Ohh, aren't you supposed to be in like college or what?"

"No, I finished school quite fast, so here I am." He shrugged.

"Here you are," I nodded, looking up at him.

"This way, miss," he said, dragging my suitcase with him.

"Oh, please just call me Emily. I sound old when you say miss."

He just smiled in response and walked into an Elevator.

Well, I'll be dammed. The house has an elevator in it. For someone who works so much, Mr. Blackwood sure is lazy to take the stairs. I stood in silence as the elevator dinged and opened up. The house was massive, and I followed James down the hallway, and we turned left.

"This will be your wing. anything you want is right here. And across to the right is Mr. Blackwood's wing, I'm sure he's giving you a lecture on boundaries." James said, pointing over at the other end of the hallway.

I rolled my eyes, "He is an asshole,"

"Yeah, he gets like that sometimes."

We stopped in front of a door, and James pulled out a set of keys and pushed one in the keyhole, and turned it.

"This will be your room, miss." He said, opening the door,

"James, what did I say about names?" I said, giving him the look.

"Oh right, I'm sorry..... Em... Emily." He stuttered,

I side-stepped him and walked into the room. My eyes widened in disbelief. The room was enormous! It was my whole apartment. I walked in, and the room enveloped me in its soft, golden glow, like a warm whisper on a summer evening. Creamy hues danced across the walls, complemented by the rich, dark wood accents that lined the floor and furniture. Plush carpets, woven with delicate patterns, cushioned my footsteps, while the subtle scent of fresh flowers wafted through the air. The furniture, a masterful blend of elegance and comfort, invited relaxation. Velvet drapes, adorned with intricate embroidery, framed the windows, filtering the sunlight and casting delicate shadows on the walls. A stunning crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling, its facets reflecting the soft light and casting tiny rainbows across the room. The overall effect was one of understated opulence, a serene sanctuary that cradled me in its beauty.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" James asked from behind.

I nodded, but words couldn't form in my throat. I walked to the sliding glass doors and opened them, walking out to the private balcony, it was offered breathtaking views of the estate's gardens, pool, and surrounding landscape. A comfortable seating area and delicate ironwork railing made it the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee or evening cocktail. There was a soft scent of flowers that the air carried across.

"It's Amazing," I whispered.

"I'm glad you like it." James said, "I'll leave you to settle in, dinner is by 7 pm. It can either be brought to you or you can come down for it, so I can introduce you to the rest of the staff."

"I'll be down." I smiled, turning to him.

"Great, see you soon, Emily." He said and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him, leaving me alone in my very own castle.

I flopped down on the bed, it is so soft! I guess this arrangement wouldn't be so bad.
