"Tokyooooooo, I've arrived!!" shouted the brown-eyed girl as she just descended from the bus she had taken a few moments ago.
Her hands quickly delved into her bag to retrieve her phone. After successfully grabbing it, her fingers swiftly dialed a number stored in her speed dial.
While waiting for someone to answer her call, she paused at a bus stop, dropping herself lazily with a frown since the intended recipient hadn't answered yet.
With no response from the first caller, she attempted to contact the second one. Without much delay, the recent call was promptly answered, and her face lit up upon hearing the voice.
"Mimi~, I've arrived in Tokyo, where are you? Kaji isn't picking up my calls, what should I do?" said the girl named Hana.
"Where are you now?" asked Mimi on the other end.
"Seems like I'm in the Asakusa area," she replied after seeing a sign at the bus stop.
"Coincidentally, my office is nearby. Take a bus to Dreamland; I'll meet you at the next stop."
"Alright, I'll head there soon."
Following her friend's directions, Hana now arrived at Tokyo's largest amusement park. The large sign displayed there looked truly magnificent. Just as she got off at the next stop, a brown-haired girl approached her with an ecstatic face.
"Hanaaaa!"
"Mimiiii!"
The two girls released the pent-up longing, ecstatic to meet again after being separated for four years. Mimi, having just finished her studies in Tokyo, landed a job at the city's biggest amusement park company, while Hana came from Hokkaido in search of employment.
Hana placed her phone down after trying to contact someone. She couldn't count how many times she attempted, and the result remained the same since this morning.
Her irritated expression caught Mimi's attention, who approached her with a cup of her favorite hot chocolate.
"Maybe Kaji is just busy. You know he's the financial manager at his office now," Mimi said, trying to comfort Hana.
"True, he's never been like this before."
"Oh, by the way, there's an interview at my office tomorrow. Heard Dreamland's owner needs more development division staff. What if you try applying there?"
"I'd love to!"
**
Dreamland is a subsidiary of Dream Corporation, owned by the wealthiest individual across Japan.
Dreamland, based in Asakusa, is rumored to have a founder who is not only handsomely cold but also renowned for successfully establishing Dreamland at a young age.
Hana and Mimi now enter the grounds of Dreamland. Before that, Mimi accompanies Hana to pick up a job application form provided by the company.
"Stop here; I need to go to my office. You can take the elevator. My office is on the 4th floor, and you'll find the interview room there."
"Okay, thank you, Mi~chan."
Nervousness and excitement blend within Hana as she prays for today to be a good day.
With confidence, she starts walking toward the interview room after parting ways with Mimi in the lobby.
Seeing the lift door to the 4th floor, where she wants to go, still open, she hurriedly runs to join in. A man inside the lift looks at her with a cold stare.
Hana shouts at him to hold the door, but he ignores her, keeping his hands in his trouser pockets.
Hana's steps halt as the door closes. With an irritated face, she angrily kicks the closed lift door. She has to go to another lift on the right side of the building, continuously muttering curses at the man who ignored her.
The cold face, glaring at her cynically, will be remembered for a long time. Not wanting to let her mood be ruined, Hana tries to appear enthusiastic again to give her best during the interview.
Arriving at the interview room, Hana struggles to swallow her saliva after seeing many applicants waiting for their turn. A woman just took Hana's form and told her to wait while her name would be called.
After waiting for a while, it's finally Hana's turn. With confidence, she enters the interview room and faces the person who will interview her. The man politely asks Hana to sit.
After a few minutes, Hana is declared successful by the organizers. With a joyful face, she expresses her gratitude. But before that, she is asked to meet the director of Dreamland, where every successful participant must face him directly.
Without much delay, Hana is in the director's room, where she sees someone sitting at the desk but facing away, making it hard for her to see the man's face clearly.
"Jun, she's the applicant who passed the interview," says a man in a black suit with slick hair who had welcomed Hana.
Slowly but surely, the man turns his chair and cynically looks at Hana. Instantly, Hana freezes upon seeing him. Lo and behold, the man right in front of her is the same person from the lift earlier. Knowing his identity as the director forces Hana to abandon her plan to scold him.
"Name?"
"Huh?"
"What's your name?"
"Let me introduce myself, my name is Hana Yui."
Jun asks for Hana's CV as he still doubts her. After handing her CV to Jun, she steps back and looks at him with a pleading gaze.
"Just a high school graduate? Do you even have the intention to apply here?" Jun says sarcastically.
"But previously, they didn't have an issue with the last educational background," Hana retorts.
"You're rejected; I don't need someone like you," Jun continues, tossing Hana's CV right in front of her.
Hana bows down resignedly, looking at her carefully crafted CV that now feels like a waste. All the anger erupts in her head, prompting her to shout at Jun.
"You arrogant, pretending-to-be-rich, heartless man! Do you think having all this makes you cool? Besides, I won't bother applying to a trashy company like this."
Hana's harsh words successfully change Jun's expression.
Quickly, Hana leaves the room after picking up her CV again. Seeing Hana's frontal attitude makes the person believed to be Jun's secretary look at her in disbelief.
It seems that unexpected rain fell that day. A girl who had just left the amusement park was seen shedding tears while running away from the place as far as she could.
After running quite a distance, she stopped under a tree for shelter. It was a habit for Hana to cry like that when she had just been angry, even though she appeared strong; she would also be fragile if insulted, as it happened earlier.
Since childhood, Hana has been an orphan. At the age of 2 months, she was found in an orphanage by the owner, who she considered her biological mother. Growing up with the orphanage owner, she became an independent and kind-hearted person.
Unlike Mimi, Hana only graduated from high school because she didn't want to burden her caretaker with university expenses. In gratitude to her "mother," Hana was determined to find a job in Tokyo.
However, her efforts were in vain. She was rejected after being declared successful in the interview by the company's owner. Hana will never forget that man's face.
"Just wait, if we meet again, I'll break his neck."
**
"I'm home~" Mimi said after placing her shoes on the designated shoe rack.
Mimi, who had just arrived, was surprised to see Hana engrossed in watching TV, surrounded by various foods that she was consuming one by one.
"You seem to be in a good mood. Let me guess. You got accepted, right?"
"Accepted from Hong Kong, but I was immediately rejected by that stupid director. He insulted me in front of his secretary. I was so angry and embarrassed."
"President Jun? He's indeed like that, arrogant and rude."
"No wonder."
"But sometimes he's not that bad."
"Forget it, I don't want to remember him."
Mimi smiled at Hana's changing mood. That's the Hana she knows. No matter how big the problem she faces, she will try to push it away.
Even though she is still bothered by it, deep down, she prioritizes the people around her so they don't have to worry about her.
**
The girl continued to stare at her phone screen for several minutes. She had sent many messages to someone who hadn't responded since she arrived in Tokyo.
With reluctance, she put her phone aside and leaned against a chair she had been sitting in.
"Instead of staying silent like this, maybe I should look for a job again. Who knows, today might be my lucky day," murmured Hana, instantly energized.
Not waiting long, the girl was ready, wearing casual attire - velvet jeans paired with a matching brown coat. After leaving her apartment, she walked towards the bus stop not far from her place.
During the journey, Hana tried to find job openings on her social media. After searching for a while, she finally found information about a job opening on an online platform. The information was from a Cafe & Bar looking for a new server. Checking the address, Hana glanced at the bus destination sign, and it seemed she was fortunate as the bus was heading towards Ueno, where the Cafe was located.
Upon arriving, Hana looked ecstatic seeing a sign on the Cafe's door announcing they were indeed in need of a server. Without hesitation, she approached the cafe, gently opened the door, and heard someone welcoming her.
"Welcome to Urahara Cafe, please choose a seat you'd like," someone said to Hana.
"I came to apply for a job. I saw there's an opening for a server outside, so I'd like to apply," confidently replied Hana.
"That's correct. Our boss recently opened a job vacancy. If you're interested in becoming a server, please follow me," invited a girl who seemed a bit younger than Hana.
Earlier, the girl who greeted Hana introduced herself as Sora Aoi, working as a part-time server while managing her schedule for university. After Sora escorted Hana to the cafe owner's room, a man inside the room invited her to enter.
A very handsome man made Hana freeze as she saw his almost anime-like appearance. With a gentle tone, he asked Hana to sit in front of him.
"So, you're applying to be a server here?"
"Yes, I'm interested in becoming a server at this cafe."
"Are you sure?"
"Is my face not convincing?"
"That's not what I meant. For a girl like you, being a server might not be the best job."
"I've never had a problem with that. As long as it's a good job, why not?"
"You're hired."
"Really?"
"Yes, I don't need more specifications. Your determination is enough."
"Thank you... I'm really happy to be accepted here."
"But before that, please don't call me sir or boss. Just use my name."
Hana glanced at the nameplate on his desk, "Urahara Kyosuke." While nodding in agreement, she thanked Urahara once again.
And on that day, Hana started her job as a server, and Urahara provided them with a special uniform for identification.
**
Unnoticed, the night came quickly. Hana, who had just finished her duties of cleaning the cafe, hurried to get ready to go home. As she was about to go to the changing room, suddenly the door opened, and she looked toward the newly opened door.
"You????" exclaimed Hana loudly.
The man seemed to ignore Hana and slumped onto a barstool. Hana approached him and told him to read the closed sign at the entrance. Once again, the man disregarded her words.
"Let it be; he's my friend," said someone who had just come out of the room.
"Who is he?" asked the man, looking at Hana with a sneer.
"He's my new bartender," replied Urahara.
"How could he forget me after what he said yesterday?" Hana thought with irritation.
"Ah... I remember now. She's the applicant I rejected at my company yesterday. Apparently, she's become a bartender at your cafe," Jun continued, showing a very annoying face in Hana's eyes.
Not wanting to cause trouble with the man, Hana decided to leave. After Urahara allowed her, she went to change her clothes, thinking she would use the back door to avoid meeting Jun again.
The girl was surprised when she received a phone call from someone she had been waiting for since yesterday. Without wasting any time, Hana answered the call and halted her cleaning activities at the cafe that morning.
"Where have you been? Why did you only contact me now?" protested Hana.
"I'm sorry, my phone was lost yesterday, but I've found it again. After checking your messages, I immediately called." replied someone on the other end.
"I miss you," Hana whispered.
"I miss you too. Let's meet," the man suggested.
"I'm working right now. How about tonight?"
"Okay, then tonight it is."
Just as Hana was about to chat longer with her boyfriend, suddenly Urahara came and immediately made her end the call. She didn't want Urahara to see her busy on the phone while there was still a lot of work waiting for her.
"Good morning," Urahara greeted his employees as he entered the room.
Once Urahara entered his office, Hana, curious about the man, immediately asked Sora about him.
"Urahara is a very kind and independent person. He built this cafe with his own efforts. I heard his parents are very wealthy, but he has never used their wealth at all," explained Sora.
"Does he have a girlfriend?" asked Hana.
"It seems not yet. He has never brought a woman here, but who knows?"
Hana was truly impressed by the cafe owner. Besides being handsome and young, he turned out to be a very hardworking person. If she didn't know Kaji, she might have fallen in love with him.
**
Hana finally managed to finish the day with excellent work, and Urahara often praised her diligence. Having completed her tasks early, Hana now intended to meet Kaji. After getting approval from Urahara, she quickly prepared to leave.
After a while, Hana, now dressed as before, seemed to have just come out of the dressing room. Unexpectedly, something unforeseen happened as Hana accidentally bumped into someone when she tried to leave the cafe.
"Do you have eyes?" said the man with a deep voice.
"Sorry... I thought who it was, turns out it's a cowardly guy," she expressed after seeing the face of the man she collided with.
"You dare say something like that to me," he replied challengingly.
Both of them stared at each other, their fiery eyes ready to pounce. Hana's mocking expression at that moment made Jun angry, and he impulsively pushed her, causing the girl to lose her balance.
Crack...
"Awww..." groaned Hana, rubbing her sore forehead.
"Hana..." called someone, making the girl turn towards the source of the voice.
"Kaji?" said Hana, looking at her unexpected boyfriend.
After helping Hana to get up, Kaji began to glare at Jun with a face full of anger.
"What did you do to her?" Kaji asked sternly.
"Tch... here comes the weirdo again," Jun retorted, refusing to look at Kaji.
"Hey, listen if someone is talking to you!!!"
"Let it be, just leave him be. A foolish man like him doesn't know what manners are."
If it weren't for Hana's plea at that moment, Kaji might have already thrown a punch at Jun. Someone appeared from behind the door after Hana and Kaji left the cafe. They saw Jun staring out of the cafe with a grumbling face.
"What's wrong with you?" Urahara asked, curious.
"Just now, there were two dogs. Luckily, they're gone now," he casually answered while dropping his body onto a chair.
"Dogs?" he said even more puzzled.
**
The two individuals had just dropped their bodies onto a garden chair. In their hands, there were warm drinks brought by Kaji before they met.
Since then, Hana seemed upset, remembering the incident that almost made her rebel. A warm hand reaching out made the girl smile, glancing at the man who had just embraced her.
"Don't be sulky like that when you're with me. You should smile... Okay?"
"Umm... Okay."
"I'm glad we're finally together again. We've been in a long-distance relationship for almost 4 years, and now you've decided to come."
"Me too. If only I had joined you both earlier, maybe the three of us wouldn't have been separated all this time."
"How's Mimi? We rarely met during the 4 years in Tokyo."
"Mimi is doing well. She works in a good place, except for the super arrogant owner."
"Are you talking about the guy who pushed you just now?"
Hana started telling about her first impression when she met Jun. She vented her frustration to Kaji, even making Kaji want to laugh at Hana's funny antics while reenacting each scene that had happened.
"You're really adorable when you're angry."
Instantly, Hana's face turned red. She couldn't remember since when she felt embarrassed by Kaji's teasing remarks.
**
That morning, rain once again poured down on the city of Tokyo. A girl was seen looking at the blurry sky accompanied by the falling raindrops.
With a soft sigh, she walked towards the dining table. In front of her, Mimi was busy typing something on her laptop. Due to the rain, Hana ended up being late for work. However, before that, she had contacted her boss.
Fortunately, Urahara was not the type of boss who liked to get angry when his employees were late. Nevertheless, Hana still felt uneasy because she was relatively new to working there.
Unlike Mimi, who did not have a morning shift that day, so she could wait for the rain to stop before going to work. Seeing Hana lost in thought made Mimi annoyed, so she pinched her chubby friend's cheek.
"It hurts, you know."
"You're very cute like that."
"Ah, I can't take it anymore. Tomorrow, I'll buy an umbrella. That way, I can go to my workplace without worrying about getting wet."
"You're so enthusiastic about working there. Does the salary pay well?"
"My boss is very kind. He even treats me like a friend despite being two years older than me. He's so nice that I feel bad being so relaxed like this."
While listening to Hana's story, her friend looked busy making hot tea for both of them. After it was ready, she sat back down after handing a cup of tea to Hana.
"Next time, I'll go there. I'm curious about your boss."
Hearing Hana's story, her friend became more interested in meeting this man named Urahara.
