Chapter 1 Chapter 1 Chapter One

ELIZA'S POV

After the final financial meeting of the day, I collapsed into the plush chair behind my desk, exhaustion weighing on my bones. As the Luna of the Crescent Moon Pack, my responsibilities stretched far beyond internal management-I had to ensure the pack's economic stability, too.

It wasn't easy. No mentor. No guidance. And as a woman, every decision I made was scrutinized.

But I had to be strong-because my husband, Derek, Alpha of the second-largest werewolf kingdom, was fighting on the front lines for our people.

As his Luna and his strongest supporter, I had to keep the pack safe and stable in his absence.

And so far, I had done well.

Then, a searing pain erupted at my mating mark.

Since my father and brothers had fallen in battle, the scar had ached under stress-but this was different. This felt like claws raking through my flesh.

I winced, pressing a hand to the burning skin-

"Luna!"

An Omega servant burst in, eyes bright with excitement. "Alpha Derek has returned!"

Derek? Back?

My heart lurched. According to the last report, he wasn't due for another two weeks. If he was here early, it could only mean one thing-victory.

Pride swelled in my chest. My Alpha had brought glory to the pack once again.

The thought of him-his powerful frame, those piercing blue eyes-made my thighs tremble as warmth pooled between them.

We weren't fated mates, only chosen ones-but our bond was strong. His touch still set my skin ablaze; his growls still echoed in my dreams. My fingers brushed the mark again, its heat unrelenting.

"Take me to see him," I nodded and said.

With servants flocking around me, straightening my robes and smoothing my hair, I strode toward the pack's entrance. One even giggled, "Perhaps tonight, the Luna and Alpha will finally have an heir!"

I allowed a small smile-but the pain at my neck flared hotter.

"Our mate has betrayed us," my wolf snarled, its voice thick with fury.

I froze.

...Absurd.

Derek? Betray me? Impossible. I shook my head, dismissing the thought. My mother had chosen him herself-she'd called him honorable. And I, with my skills and my family's resources, had helped make the Crescent Moon Pack the second-strongest in the kingdom.

He would never dishonor me.

I was just tired.

But then-his scent hit me.

Familiar. Powerful.

And laced with something sweet.

My gaze snapped forward-

There he stood, as imposing as ever.

But his hand was wrapped around another woman's.

The way he looked at her-soft, adoring-was like a knife to my ribs.

Just as he'd once looked at me.

The mark exploded in agony, fire racing through my veins. I lifted a hand, my voice like ice.

"Everyone-leave."

They didn't need to see their leader in disarray-it would undermine the pack's stability.

The servants hesitated.

"NOW."

They scattered.

I forced a slow breath, clinging to composure. My parents had taught me this-calm was power.

The pain ebbed slightly, and I focused on Derek.

Holding hands meant nothing. There had to be an explanation-

"Derek, what's going on?" I finally managed to ask.

"Eliza, this is Maya," he said, his gaze dropping to the woman beside him with unmistakable tenderness. "My mate."

My brows shot up-both at the words and the audacity in his tone.

"No," I said coolly. "I am your mate, Derek. I am your wife."

His expression didn't waver. "You were my choice. She is my fate."

My brows arched sharply at his words and the sheer audacity with which he spoke them. "No, I am your mate, Derek. I am your wife."

"Not my true mate!" he stated calmly, oblivious to how each word carved deeper into my soul. "Maya is."

I drew another steadying breath. "Derek, have you forgotten the vows you made at our bonding ceremony? We chose each other-we swore to forsake fated bonds."

A flicker of guilt passed through Derek's eyes.

"Eliza, you're too domineering!" The woman at his side suddenly spat, her voice laced with venom. "How dare you force an Alpha to deny his fated bond? You're defying the Moon Goddess' blessing!"

My gaze finally settled on her. Clad in warrior's leathers, her figure was undeniably striking-all fire and sharp edges. But when her challenging glare met mine, my spine straightened instinctively.

If she thought intimidation would work on me, she was sorely mistaken.

I stepped closer, my voice dropping into the commanding tone I reserved for insubordinates. "You will address me as Luna. Until the day you successfully usurp my position, you will show respect."

Even if she was Derek's mistress, rank still mattered. The werewolf kingdom did not tolerate disrespect toward hierarchy.

Her eyes flashed with resentment, but before she could retort, Derek moved protectively in front of her. "That's enough, Eliza! Soon enough, you won't be Luna anymore."

A triumphant smirk curled Maya's lips.

"What exactly are you implying?" I hissed. "Do I look like some discarded rag to you?"

"I'm not casting you out," Derek said with an infuriating shrug. "In fact, I have a proposal. You may remain in the pack-as my concubine."

Something inside me snapped.

The fury that ignited wasn't from heartbreak, but from the sheer disrespect. After everything I'd built for this pack in the last six months, this was their gratitude?

"Tear out their throats," my wolf snarled. "Hang their corpses at the gates."

For one dangerous moment, I felt my claws lengthen. But I forced them back.

I'd promised my mother.

No one could know about my wolf. She hadn't wanted me to become another corpse in this endless war-she'd wanted me safe.

And she'd chosen Derek for me, believing he would be the mate who honored me.

Yet Derek's betrayal now proved-he was never capable of that promise.

How bitterly ironic.

By parading his mistress through the pack, Derek had already ensured my humiliation would spread like wildfire. But he had miscalculated-badly.

The Crescent Moon Pack's prosperity? It ran on my enterprises. My wealth.

If I left, they'd crumble into the poorest pack in the kingdom overnight.

But only if the Werewolf King sanctioned our bond's dissolution.

"Never," I finally said, my voice glacial. "I will never degrade myself as your concubine. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you can start making smarter decisions."

Chapter 2 Chapter 2 Chapter Two

ELIZA'S POV

Derek's fury gathered like a storm, his hand twitching toward my throat-but Maya stopped him.

"Wait." She pushed past his arm, striding toward me with the smirk of a victor.

"Luna Eliza," she drawled my title like a taunt, "we both know you're just an Omega now. Your pack is gone. I'd wager the rogue wolves would tear you apart the moment you step outside these borders-"

"Maya, you're being too lenient," Derek cut in sharply, his gaze turning glacial as it locked onto me. "You should be grateful for this mercy instead of using stubbornness to seek my attention. Face reality."

A dark chuckle rumbled from my wolf. My eyes widened slightly-Derek had been gone so long, he'd forgotten.

Forgotten my family name.

Forgotten who my father and brother had been.

He'd forgotten that before I came, his people starved. And under my leadership, the Crescent Moon Pack had risen to become the second strongest in the kingdom. He hadn't even noticed the renovations to the Alpha's estate.

My silence made him misread me again.

"My offer stands," he repeated, voice dripping with condescension. "I have the resources to ensure your comfort. It's a fair arrangement."

I suppressed the urge to burst into laughter. His words were so absurd, I almost thought he was joking-until I saw the utter seriousness in his expression.

He meant it.

How dare he? How dare he insult my lineage like this?

My glare could have flayed skin. "I don't share my husband. And-" I stepped forward, driving the knife deeper, "-under Werewolf Law, you can't dissolve our marriage without the King's sanction."

The ancient laws were unyielding. Bonds, markings, separations-all required the Wolf King's approval. If Derek and Maya acted without it, they'd face exile. Or execution.

I turned to leave before I gave in to the urge to snap their necks-

Derek suddenly blocked my path, his face twisting with irritation before settling into that nauseatingly confident smirk. "I'm not seeking a divorce, Eliza. Have you forgotten? Breaking the mating bond doesn't dissolve our marital status. I'm not denying your contributions to the pack."

My heart pounded violently. "Did the Werewolf King approve you taking a second wife?" My voice trembled with barely contained fury. Werewolves were fiercely possessive by nature-our society strictly upheld monogamy. In all our history, not even the most powerful Alphas, nor the Crown Prince himself, had ever openly maintained two wives simultaneously!

Oh, I knew many mated wolves took lovers in secret. But to publicly acknowledge two mates? This was unprecedented.

The Wolf King had deeply respected my father-that respect had been part of why Derek agreed to our union in the first place. But with my father gone, fallen defending the kingdom, and Derek now the realm's most celebrated general... did this mean the royal court would side with him over me?

Derek's smirk widened, confirming my worst fears. "The King has already agreed," Derek said smoothly. "Maya and I could've claimed lands or gold for our war victories. Instead, we chose something far more valuable." He gestured to her. "She'll be the new Luna of Crescent Moon. You? You'll remain as my wife-just not the only one."

His words struck like a dagger to my heart. The Wolf King's betrayal cut deepest-my father had been his closest ally, the strongest pillar supporting his rise to power. How could he sanction this humiliation?

My fists clenched. No. The King's kind face flashed in my mind-I refused to believe he'd abandon me like this. I needed to see him directly.

"You know, Eliza," Maya interjected smugly, pressing against Derek, "for an Omega like you, the chance to share an Alpha is already a privilege. You should be grateful."

"Grateful?" I scoffed. "Grateful for the honor of being your concubine?"

Outwardly, I remained composed, but inside, the past six months-every drop of sweat, every sacrifice for this pack-crumbled before me.

"You're lucky you're not being thrown out outright," Maya continued, eyes gleaming with disdain. "While Derek and I fought on the front lines, you lounged in luxury. A spoiled, weak thing like you was never fit to be Luna."

Weak? Spoiled? I nearly laughed. She knew nothing of my past.

I had endured war like every other werewolf. My father and brothers had bled for this kingdom-and she dared claim I hadn't sacrificed?

"Maya," I narrowed my eyes, "are you truly the legendary 'Undefeated She-Wolf' they praise?"

Her reputation preceded her-the mightiest female warrior, the Moon Goddess incarnate. Tales sang of her courage, resilience, and honor.

I had once respected her.

Now, I saw only a selfish hypocrite.

"You dare question me, Omega?" Her fury erupted, murderous intent flaring. "Every scar on my body is a medal-medals that give me the right to execute you where you stand, and no one would challenge it!"

My wolf snarled at my shoulder, claws itching to emerge. But my mother's warning echoed, and I forced it back into the shadows.

I met her glare with icy amusement. "So, the paragon of female warriors tolerates her Alpha keeping a mistress? Tell me, Maya-does it not bother you?"

Maya froze.

I steadied my voice. "First, I am not the interloper here. Derek and I forged a bond first. He swore to me that even if he found his fated mate, he would never betray our vows. Yet here we are."

Derek's face twitched. "I haven't betrayed you! I'm offering you a place in my pack-it's just that Maya is better suited as Luna!"

Maya hissed, "Eliza! Stop being selfish! The bond between Derek and me is irresistible-you have to accept that!"

Derek grabbed her arm, calming her before turning to me. "Eliza. Maya only agreed to this out of pity for the weak. Like I said-if you leave, the rogues will rape and slaughter you within hours-"

My palm cracked across his face.

He lunged, fingers twitching toward my throat-but something in my gaze made him hesitate.

I spoke softly, lethally. "How generous of you both. But before you bark like rabid dogs, why don't you actually look at what I've done for this pack?"

Maya sneered. "Oh? You mean sitting in an office stamping papers? You're just a figurehead! What do you know about commerce? The pack's economy was already stable before Derek left for war!" She glanced at him. "Right, Alpha?"

Derek stared at me in silence. "Maya and I came here only to inform you. Your opinion holds no weight in this matter."

With that, he turned to leave, Maya smirking at his side. But I stepped forward, blocking their path.

"If you truly have no respect for me," I said, my voice low and dangerous, "then I will drag your names through the mud-along with every asset you hold dear."

Derek's fist clenched, his arm twitching as if to strike-but something in my gaze made him hesitate.

The tension between us crackled like lightning-until a voice broke through.

"Luna Eliza."

Derek's mother's servant stood at the doorway, her frail frame leaning on a cane. She had been like a second mother to me-the only one who showed me kindness in this den of vipers. When she fell ill, I had spent fortunes securing the best healers for her, even when the pack coffers ran dry. And in return, she had given me her unwavering loyalty.

But even for her, I would not stay to endure this humiliation.

Once I learned what my mother-in-law had to say, my first move would be to seek an audience with the Wolf King himself.

Chapter 3 Chapter 3 Chapter Three

My jaw tightened as I stepped out of the war room, my heels striking the marble like gunshots. Fury vibrated beneath my skin, pounding through my veins in waves.

This couldn't be real.

Derek didn't just want to end our marriage-he wanted to make me his mistress. His mistress. As if I were some cast-off lover who should be grateful for scraps.

My wolf was already clawing her way up, lips curled in a silent snarl. She wanted blood. She wanted Maya torn apart for her arrogance, and Derek-my mate, my husband-for his betrayal.

But I shoved her back down.

Now wasn't the time for fury. It wouldn't be justice-they'd twist it into madness. Arrogance. Treason. And they'd kill me for it.

I bit my lip hard, feeling the sting as the skin split and blood pooled. Metallic. Sharp. Grounding. I needed to stay focused.

I stormed down the corridor, eyes locked on the gilded door ahead-Diana's room. The only one in this house who had ever treated me like family. Or so I'd thought.

I raised my hand and knocked, just as I always did.

"Come in," came the faint, worn voice.

I stepped inside.

The room was as pristine as ever-white walls trimmed with gold filigree, an ethereal illusion of peace. But no amount of beauty could hide the truth. The beeping of machines filled the air, and Diana lay beneath pale sheets, her skin even paler, skeletal fingers curled weakly around the covers. Tubes snaked into her arms. Her breath came shallow and labored.

She used to glow. Bright eyes. Laughter that filled the halls. But that had died with her mate.

Cancer had taken the rest.

The doctors had given her a year. That was nearly twelve months ago.

Not on my watch.

Dr. Ardan Holt stood beside her, scanning vitals with the precision of a soldier. The most renowned healer in the Lycan Kingdom. Unreachable-until I made him reachable.

Being Luna had opened doors. Ones I'd forced open to save her life.

He glanced up as I approached. So did the nurse.

Both nodded respectfully. I returned the gesture, then motioned for them to leave us.

They obeyed, retreating silently. The door clicked shut behind them.

I exhaled slowly, turning to face Diana. Her eyes met mine instantly, a flicker of warmth crossing her pale features.

She smiled.

Even now-when I felt like I was being ripped apart from the inside-she smiled.

I forced one back. Sat down beside her bed. Her hand reached out, brittle fingers curling around mine without hesitation. Like always.

"How are you feeling today?" I asked gently, though the words felt foreign in my mouth.

"A little better," she replied. "Dr. Ardan gave me something new. It's already working wonders."

"I'm glad to hear that," I said, the words barely audible over the static building in my head.

She let out a breathy laugh, trying to sit up. I helped her adjust.

"And I'm sure that's not the only good news you've had today," she added, her voice soft but eager. "Derek's back."

I nearly rolled my eyes. Of course she didn't know.

"I know," I muttered. "I saw him."

Her face lit up like a girl hearing a fairytale. Her fingers tightened around mine.

"That's wonderful! Finally, you two can be together again. You'll have his support. You've done so much alone-now you can finally rest."

I opened my mouth to speak. She cut me off.

"Since Derek left for war, you've been carrying the pack on your own. After your loss, too-it's been a lonely road, Eliza. You've held everything together. Thank the Goddess for the pack. If they hadn't been there."

Her voice trailed off, but the implication remained.

My hand slipped out of hers.

She blinked at me, startled.

She had never spoken to me like this before. Like I was fragile. Like I couldn't survive without Derek.

"Did you know what Derek said to me today?" My voice was quiet. Lethal. "Did you know he brought another woman home? To make her his wife. To make her Luna."

I watched her face carefully.

And I saw it. The hesitation. The guilt. The way her eyes dropped.

The silence was loud enough to crush me.

She had known.

I watched the downturn of her lips, the way she looked away-as if her eyes couldn't bear to meet mine. Confirmation. Cold and devastating.

Diana didn't say a word. The silence between us thickened, stretching out like a blade suspended in the air.

When it became clear she wasn't going to speak, I broke the silence myself, each word heavy and cutting.

"So it's true," I said. "You already knew. You've already accepted Maya as Derek's wife. As Luna. Is that it? You think she's better than me?"

My voice didn't waver. I needed to hear it-from her mouth. I needed to know why she let this fester in silence while I stood beside her, loyal through every storm.

Diana bowed her head, and finally, she spoke.

"It doesn't matter what I think," she said, her voice barely a whisper. "Derek and Maya have done so much on the battlefield. The king approved it all. My opinion. it doesn't carry weight anymore."

I let out a sharp breath-a laugh without humor. I turned to leave, but her frail hand reached for mine.

"Eliza, please," she said. "You have to understand. What they did-it saved this pack. It gave us a future. Keeping them apart now would be seen as foolish. The pack is already behind them."

She looked at me with pleading eyes. "Stay. Even if things with Derek can't be fixed, you can stay. I can adopt you. Make you my daughter in name. You can still help lead the pack. Still be Luna. It's better than being just his mistress, isn't it?"

Her words were a poison wrapped in silk.

I stared at her. Slowly, coldly.

So she had known. And not only had she said nothing-she was endorsing it. She wanted me to surrender the title. To smile while being stripped of everything I'd bled for. To help them keep control, just not as his wife.

A frown settled on my face like steel.

I stood slowly, dragging my hand from her grasp.

"All this time," I said, my voice tight, "you only kept me around because of what I brought to this pack. The wealth. The alliances. That's all I ever was to you."

Diana's face tightened. "That's not true."

"I'm done pretending," I snapped. "You never cared. You just needed someone to protect your son's reputation. Someone to hold the house together while he ran off to war-and returned with another woman on his arm."

"Eliza-"

"No," I interrupted. "Derek didn't learn betrayal on the battlefield. He learned it here. From you."

I turned my back to her.

Behind me, I heard movement. Blankets rustling. Then her voice, sharp and brittle.

"Now listen here. I won't allow you to insult me or my son. I didn't-"

Her words dissolved into coughing-violent, hacking. I turned, watched as her body curled inward, her hands clawing at her throat.

Once, I would have panicked. Called for help. Held her hand.

But not now.

She reached out to me, her eyes watery, mouth opening in a silent plea.

I stared.

Then shrugged.

"You'll be fine," I said, my voice cold and hard. "Your new family will take care of you. I hope betraying me was worth it."

Her eyes widened in realization.

She had lost me.

I turned and walked out, leaving her alone with the machines and her regret.

I didn't know what I'd do next.

But I knew one thing for sure-I would not stay here and be treated like a nobody.

They wanted to take the Luna title from me? Let them.

But they'd better be ready to burn for it.
