Chapter 1 One

Montegra was just like what mom said. It was a huge city. There were bright lights and tall buildings, and she had never seen anything like it. Even with no one around you could tell that it was busy during the day. Skylar's heartbeat with dread and fear as she looked out the car window. None of the cities she had ever lived in where like this.

This city was known to be for the rich, the ones who tried to become rich, the poor and for those with dreams they wanted to fulfill.

She remembered when her mom had told her the news about them moving. She couldn't even fake happiness. She had understood why her mom wanted them to move but nonetheless, it still hurt. She was sad to leave everything behind. Especially her friends.

She was mad at herself for this. They moved because she had a scholarship at the new school prestigious school. She couldn't turn down this offer because just like her mom had said. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that you can't miss out on."

Her thoughts wandered over to her two best friends, Milo and Maya. When she had told them the news, they thought it was a prank but when they realized she was telling the truth they were as heartbroken as she was.

She had spent her last few days with them before she had left. We had promised to visit each other. Yet she knew it wasn't the same as almost seeing them every day.

The car came to a sudden halt. Skylar climbed out of the car and looked at the house they would now have to call home. Why had her mom wanted to move so badly? Mom opened the trunk. "You can start offloading your bags, Skylar."

Skylar went to the back of the trunk and took her bags. They hadn't bought much stuff because this was their new beginning.

Skylar could hear nothing as it was past midnight. The moon was giving a soft glow which helped her to see where she was going. When she walked in the unfamiliar house, and she felt her unrest grow.

"Why are you just standing?"

Skylar covered her irritation. "I was waiting for you to show me to my room."

"This way madame."

She followed her upstairs and after turning. They go down a hallway and then she stops.

"This will be your room Skylar and I hope you like it."

She steps aside, and Skylar opens the door. She switches on the light and gasps in surprise when she sees what lies before her.

There was a sky on the wall that was painted with her favorite color, blue. There was a bed and a dressing table.

"What do you think Skylar?"

"I love it! Thank you, mom!"

"You are more than welcome dear. Now go wash up you have a long day ahead tomorrow." As she went to her own room.

Skylar decided to unpack her bags because she didn't feel tired at all. She didn't want the morning to come because the long day ahead entailed her to be the new girl at school.

After she finished unpacking, she went to the bathroom to just wash her face. She was too lazy to shower. She splashed the cool water on her face and then she took a towel and wiped the water from her face.

She looked in the mirror and saw that she was a mixture of her mother and father. She had luxurious black hair, a small nose, and smoldering brown eyes. People complimented her often on her looks.

She went back to her room and lay down underneath the blankets. She listened to the wind blowing but sleep still evaded her. She still couldn't help but wonder what types of people she would encounter at her new school.

She finally took her phone and decided to check for messages. She had a couple from her friends from back home. It made her heart very warm at the thought of her friends missing her. She smiled as she replied to them.

After that, she put her phone on the dresser and closed her eyes.

Chapter 2 Two

The morning had come too soon, and Skylar managed to dress up and meet her mom downstairs on time. "Did you have breakfast?" as her mom asked.

"No, I am not feeling hungry." as she brushed off the thought of eating. She felt butterflies in her stomach and not the good kind. There were the ones that made you want to vomit.

She smiled em-pathetically at her. "I know you must be feeling nervous Sky but today will pass and you will make new friends."

"I suppose."

When they pull up at the side of the school. Skylar climbs out of the car and takes a deep breath in. She looked down at her uniform and she hoped it fitted her well.

"Bye Sky. You can do this." as she cheers me on.

"Thanks, mom."

"You know your way back home, right? "

"Yes, I do."

She walks towards the entrance of the school. The gates seem like the gates from hell. There are huge words written on them. Welcome to Lincoln High School.

No one seemed to look at her. There was a sound and she assumed it was the bell because everyone was rushing to the class.

Skylar finally found the front office and sighed in relief. She thought she would have to look for the bloody office the whole day.

She went up to it and saw a lady seating there. "Excuse me?" she interrupted her.

"Morning. How may I help you?" she replied.

"My name is Skylar Gray and I am new. I am here to fetch my timetable."

"Just a minute." as she began typing in her computer. The printer started to work, and she took the paper from it.

"Here you go. You know how to get to your classroom."

"Yes." as she lied.

Skylar walked down the hallway and found herself walking in circles. When would she get to a history class at this rate?

What feels like years of searching she finally finds the classroom and she is hesitant to enter. She knocks tentatively on the door. "Come in." a male voice sound.

She walks in and she sees a bunch of curious eyes looking at her.

"Sorry I'm late Sir."

He smiles at her "You must be the new girl."

"Yes. My name is Skylar Gray."

"It's nice to meet you, Skylar. You may take a seat."

She nods, and she goes and sits down at an empty desk. She can feel the other students eyes on her, but she doesn't pay mind.

She takes out her textbook and turns to the page that the teacher is reading. She didn't want to slack behind because grades meant everything to her. She had a competitive side. She had to get the perfect grades.

She was already at an advantage because she was in senior year at the age of sixteen. She had skipped a couple of grades because she was smart.

She rummaged through her bag until she found her notebook and then she started jotting down notes. Trying to not miss even a word the teacher said.

The bell rings and she starts to pack her bag. A shadow falls in front of her and she looks up.

"Hey, my name is Lola."

"Mine is Skylar."

"Nice to meet you. Do you want to be friends?"

She quickly responds "Yes. Of course," she was glad that she didn't have to sit by herself during break time.

She takes out her phone and hands it to Skylar. "Put your number and I will message you when its break time."

She takes it and punches in her numbers. "Cool. Let me see your timetable."

Skylar takes it out and hands it to her. "You have English now. I have sciences. Let me show you to your class. You are late as it is."

She picks up her satchel and gets up. "We have the same math class. So, I will see you there." as she points at her English class.

She took a deep breath because she was late again, and this meant another entrance. She knocks at the door. There is no response, but she can hear people inside. The class is really loud. She just decides to walk in.

When she does, she feels the class grow quiet. Someone whistles at her but she doesn't pay mind. There is a lady sitting by her desk which she presumed was the teacher and she was on her phone! Please don't tell me I am in the dumb class.

"Morning mam." She turns slightly. Then she puts on her glasses. "Who are you?"

"I am Skylar Gray and I'm new."

"You are a pretty muffin, but I didn't know that we were having a new student join us. You can take a seat wherever you find a chair and you can read pages sixty-five to seventy if you feel like it." Then she takes off her glasses and she goes back to using her phone.

Skylar looks around and sees the only place where there is a space, is where a couple is making out. Why couldn't they just do it at their own time? Why were these tables in three's? Now she had to be a third wheel for pity's sake!

She made her way to the back and she opened the chair Next to the guy. She sits down and they finally stop eating each other's faces.

The girl scowls at her as if she were disturbing them but she had no choice and she was also feeling uncomfortable.

The guy whom she presumed to be her boyfriend turns and looks at her. She acts as if she can't see him. He was staring for too long for a guy that had a girlfriend.

"Excuse me new girl?" as she calls her.

Skylar turns to the blonde girl with green eyes. "Who said you can sit here?"

"There is no other space in here except this one."

"Stop being mean to her." as Reign tries to calm her down. He knew that his girlfriend was acting this way because she felt threatened by the new girl. He didn't blame her. The new girl was breath-taking. Luxurious black hair, soft brown eyes, and full cherry lips. He knew he had stared at her for too long.

"Fine! New girl, my name is Karly. It's a name you shouldn't forget."

"My name is Reign."

Skylar finally takes a good look at the guy and she must say he was really handsome. His blue eyes glittered, and his brunette hair was silky.

She stops staring and she responds to the two "My name is Skylar."

Reign liked the sound of her name too. He felt Karly's hand go on his leg and that meant she was being possessive again. She was marking her territory. Showing her that she belonged to him.

When Skylar saw Karly put her hand on Reign's leg, she felt dread at the thought that she would have to witness them do such dodgy things.

She turned away and decide to take out her English textbook so that she can start reading. When her pen, notebook, and textbook were on the table she started to work.

She heard giggles and she saw Karly laughing at her. "This is how they all start." She doesn't pay mind to her as she takes out her earphones and she starts listening to music as she works. She starts to make her notes.

The bell rings and she is glad that it is break time. Just as Lola promised she had sent her a message saying she was waiting for her outside.

Chapter 3 Three

As she was packing up her books the other scholars had already gone. Not that they even bothered to do anything in class. With such a teacher she couldn't blame them. She would just have to work extra hard at home to make sure that she didn't slack or anything.

Lola was waiting for outside her door. They waltzed down the hall to the cafeteria. When her nervousness had gone away, she realized how hungry she actually was. She got a chicken Mayo sandwich and a drink.

They went and sat at the back of the cafeteria. Skylar noticed that it was just the two of them, but she didn't complain but she felt relieved. The sandwich tasted delicious and she munched it down.

Lola turned to her "how was English?"

"It was okay I suppose. I mean the teacher is not the best and I sat next to this couple and they were too touchy for my liking."

Lola laughs "Sounds rough. Did you make friends with the touchy couple?"

She shrugs "I don't think so. I got their names. Reign and Karly."

"Reign and Karly!" Lola said.

"Yes."

"Wasn't Karly bitchy too you?"

"A bit. She was about to, but Reign stopped her, and she said I shouldn't forget her name. Why?"

"That's odd. Reign usually never tames Karly when she is being a bitch. She is the queen B of this school with her two little minions. Vivian and Beth."

Skylar hoped she wouldn't cross paths with them often. "can you show me where my locker is? I want to put my gym clothes in there."

"Sure." as Lola leads her to the lockers. "Yours is directly opposite mine"

She opens the locker and puts some of her items from home. She would decorate her locker soon. The bell rang, and it was time for math.

Lola leads the way and she sat next to her. The teacher was at least decent even though the class was only half full.

It was now time for Skylar to change into her gym clothes. She went with Lola and to fetch her clothes by the locker room. The bathroom was empty, and she put on her black jogger shorts and a tank top. Then lastly her socks and sneakers.

She came out of the bathroom stall. Lola was already done. "Damn Skylar you look hot."

When was the last time she had blushed? "Stop it, Lola." She goes to the bathroom mirror and her hair is still tied up intact. She pulls it, so it can be tighter.

"Ready?" Lola asked.

"As ever can be."

Lola leads us outside. "I thought there was a sports center?"

"There is but today we are doing athletics by the field."

The field is huge. The track is huge, and it is marked, dividing the tracks. We get on to the field and the coach is already there giving instructions. "Get in the line girls." We do as we are told.

The boys are seating on the bleachers. "As I was explaining, ladies will run first. You will go around this field twice." The boys cheer making noise. "Quiet" as the coaches voice booms. Skylar was already at the back since there were a lot of girls. They were standing like marathon runners.

"On your mark, set, go!" as the whistle goes off. We start running and we pass a bunch of girls. Lola begins to slow down. Skylar keeps going. She was competitive, and she wanted to make a good impression. She was used to running for long. She often challenged herself and she pushed.

On the way to the second lap, she realizes that more girls are lagging behind. She pushes more so that she can have a gap between her and the rest. She finishes the race with an impressive gap. The coach calls her over "Come here"

She goes over to him. "What's your name?"

"Skylar Gray." She hears murmurs between the boys by the bleachers, but she doesn't care for them. "That was really good."

"Thank you, sir."

The rest of the girls come filing in. They rest on the bleachers heaving up and down. When Lola catches her breath, she sits up. "Damn Skylar you run fast."

"Thank you." as she grins at her.

"Some of the boys are not in attire. So, you all run next week ten laps." Grunts can be heard amongst the boys that are targeted at the coach.

The coach carries on "Don't thank me. Thank your friends."

They get dismissed early today and she couldn't be happier. She wanted to go home and sleep. She reaches her locker and takes out her backpack.

"Where do you live?" Lola asked.

"23 ilkey road."

"We live in the same direction. It's just that you live further up."

They take their bags and heard home. "Bye." as Lola hugged her. She had gotten to her house. Skylar still had about ten minutes to go before she reached her destination. She walked faster so she could reach there sooner.

When she got home, she undressed and went straight for the shower. She scrubbed her body quickly and let the water trickle down on her. When she was done showering, she felt refreshed and even though it was afternoon she changed into her pajamas.

She felt very comfortable with them. Instead of taking a nap she decided to do her homework instead. She opened her books, but she felt drowsy.

When she was done with all her studying, her mom was calling her downstairs. It was dark out and she realized that she had been in engrossed in reading for all this time.

Her mom is sitting by the counter and she sits across her. There is a box of pizza on the table and two cans of coke.

Before she says anything, her mom jumps to ask her "Tell me about your day Sky." As she is already munching on a pizza slice. Skylar also opens the box and she takes a piece out. The pizza melts into her mouth, she was starving.

"It was okay, I guess." She tells her about Lola and they met. But Skylar doesn't tell her mom about Reign and Karly. She didn't want her to go into a rage.

When she is full, she gets up. "Thanks for the pizza mom, I'm tired. So, I'm going to bed."

"My pleasure honey. Sleep well."

She heads back into her room, then she switches off the lights and goes underneath the blankets. Exhaustion takes over her. She had a long day and she was glad that the first day of school was over and done with.

Her phone vibrates, and she sees a message from Lola. "Are you awake?"

"Yeah but I'm going to sleep." She had barely slept last night because of the stress of being new. But now that was out of the way she felt all the exhaustion that had been building up since yesterday come down on her. She could even barely keep her eyes open.

"Okay night." as her phone beeps again.

"Night, Sweet dreams." Then she turns off her phone. She closes her eyes and she goes to sleep.
