Try being the youngest sister to six older controlling brothers, all of whom are alphas. Life can be difficult. I would never have even thought of having a boyfriend or getting out on a date. Most girls played with dolls and tea sets. Not me, because my brothers wanted to wrestle, kick, and fight from a young age.
The boys taught me to kick anyone's butt from here to China. It was just as enjoyable in high school. My brothers, who are closest to me in age, always monitor me, and if they can not do that, then their friends take care of it.
For me, escaping becomes second nature. In the event they were determined to watch my every move, I would give them reasons to do so. In response, I begin skipping classes and flooding the boys' bathroom with toilet paper. I begin dressing sexily in class. As a result, I would ask my brothers' friends out in a sexy manner. I have a blast until the Alpha (my oldest brother) assigns me a bodyguard.
As I look at him impishly, I say, "I can outsmart you, Wolf." Besides ditching him, I go to the mall with my friends and skip school. You're probably wondering how my grades were. It's no problem, I'm a genius and I don't have to study to be on the honor roll.
In the mall, I get caught by all six of my brothers. Cameron, my oldest brother, picks me up and throws me over his shoulder. I laugh as I wave goodbye to my friends. I watch as my friends gawk at my brothers. I know some of my friends are in love with them. My brothers wave to my friends after they say goodbye.
As I turn 16, I am so excited to finally attend highschool by myself, as my two brothers who are still in highschool are graduating this year. There is no such luck. The Alpha tells the school to test me out, and I am also graduating from highschool, and I will attend the same University my brothers are planning to attend.
Moon Goddess, what have I done wrong?
The brothers I have are hypocrites. Females are constantly revolving through their bedrooms. They usually last about a week with my brothers, and then the breakup occurs.
While growing up, I learn to hate the way my brothers treat the girls they date. My brothers use girls for their own sexual appetite. It's true that the girls throw themselves at them, but that doesn't mean they want to be treated like dirt. Thus, I already knew all the lines that men used to get what they desired, paying no attention to the girls' feelings. Claire does not want a love life, or a destined mate. Instead, she would make her own destiny.
I find I love the university; I have more freedom without my brothers being able to look over my shoulders 24/7. This is because of my brothers having totally separate classes than me and the campus is huge.
I could now venture out and flirt, sit with a guy at lunch if I want to. I am not looking for a guy mind you; it is that I could now do it without my six brothers interfering.
I still don't date. Every guy I talk to would use the same lines my brothers used with females to get sex. I am worth more than that, so I just don't date.
Some men at the university don't give up on the flirting inappropriately. I would finally teach the guys a lesson by getting him in a death grip until he passes out. I would then go on my merry way.
The University of course calls my oldest brother and states I need to attend anger management classes. I would explain to my brother about the inappropriate advances, and he would high five me, for kicking the guy's butt. The Dean would look upset, so my brother would pretend to be disappointed at me.
Having turned 20 years old, I already had a master's degree. My oldest brother, Cameron, finds his mate, sadly his mate has a hard time in the beginning of the relationship because he has been a male whore. His mate is constantly crying. It would get better after my brother grovels a lot for forgiveness. Seriously! I don't need or want that kind of life! My brother unknowingly creates cynic as far as love is concerned.
Having decided for a long time that I would succeed all on my own, I would not fall for any of this. The moon goddess has already doomed her, so she would meet someone with Alpha blood as her mate, and they are the worst to be male whores. She is of Alpha blood herself, so her mate would be of Alpha blood as well.
I have planned out how my life's goals are going to be. First, I would work for the family security company. This security firm operates in a human city. I am excited to live there; I have grown tired of my brothers using pack wolves as spies. Perhaps I could be myself (whoever that is) among humans.
I create a new look at my family's company. I don't want to appear attractive; I slick my hair into a bun and put on thick-framed glasses. I wear a long gray suit skirt. I am totally rocking the library geek look.
I apply at the programmers department and the geeks have accepted me as I have been top of my class in the University. It elates me to be here with them. They hire me on my knowledge without my brothers' help.
I lie to the interviewer, stating that my middle name is Ann and my last name is Calderon. I edit my school transcripts with that name. I am aware of the deceit. My goal is to be successful or fail according to merit, not based on who my family and I are.
After a couple of weeks of working at the company, I feel triumphant that my brothers haven't discovered me. As I am reviewing codes for various software systems at work, I hum in total glee; I feel free to make my own choices. It is so refreshing that only one of the other four geeks working with me is a wolf. The other three are humans.
It turns out that the wolf's name is Jackson, and he's also a geek in the pack. I would guess that Jackson is about six years older than I am. He has a mate and four pups. On his desk, Jackson keeps photos of them.
From the show the three stooges, I nickname the other three guys ("Moe, Larry, and Curly") for their comic timing and awkward mannerisms. Initially, the guys grimaces when I call them their pet names. But eventually, they get used to it.
While typing away at my desk, I notice the guys stand up quickly and respectfully, you would think they are all wolves, and the Alpha steps in, which isn't possible because three of the four guys are human and know nothing of our kind. I look at them and Jackson tries to have his eyes point behind me. I turn around and my mouth drops open. Why am I cursed moon goddess?
I stand up quickly and try to pretend I don't know who is standing in front of me. I keep praying, "Please do not recognize me? Please, please, please?" Sadly, to say I do not have that kind of fortune to fool any of my brothers much less Alpha Cameron.
What is it with my brothers that they feel they must control my life? I should have run away to a different continent. I know that isn't possible, as they would use trackers to hunt me down.
Cameron walks up to me and starts talking, "I heard about an employee that worked late at night, and this employee found major coding issues and fixed them. I thought I would come down and meet this employee. I should have known it was you, Clair, really using your middle name and then mom's maiden name on your resume? You realize that is falsifying documentation?"
I can hear the guys mutter in shock that I am one of the upper echelons of the company. My brother walks over and takes off my thick-rimmed glasses and takes out the makeshift slicked back bun.
I ball up my fists, "I can dress anyway I see fit. I also like being down here Cameron!"
My brother just laughs and points at me to follow him. I look back with a sheepish smile at my friends behind me and wave goodbye.
"We have an important client for lunch today, and I want you there with me sis. You are maybe a pain in my arse, but you are diplomatic towards strangers. I need you to change out of the library garb and into something more normal. I have sent my secretary with your size, and she will get you ready for this lunch."
I follow my brother up to the corporate floor, where all the rest of my five brothers are. I can see their smiles as they laugh that I have been once again retrieved.
Cameron and Camden flank each side of me, like I am going to run? Hmm.. that may not be such a bad idea, that thought leaves my brain as soon as I contemplate running. These guys would always, and I mean always catch me.
Cameron -
We all walk into the boardroom. I am uncertain why my sister hates being who she is in relation to her pack and our family? I just shake my head not knowing what to think.
"Mom, Dad, look who the geek is that discovered the bad coding? None other than your daughter, Clair. Oh, I forgot she goes by Ann Calderon.'
Clair -
I can see my mother's mouth drop open, and then she looks at me and she asks, "Why are you pretending to be someone else baby?"
I stand up from the chair I have sat in, to give more emphasis to my point. "I want to be my person, that accomplishes successes on her own merit, not piggy backing off the successes of family!" I throw myself back into the chair, huffing as I feel a sting on my butt from sitting down too hard.
Clair's mother smiles softly proud of the independence of her daughter, her daughter will make a good Luna one day.
Luna Constance -
"Everyone who is not sitting down please sit. We have much to discuss, 1. being the Moonlight dance for unmated wolves. Clair, I want you and your brothers Corbin and Connor to head the committee."
Clair -
I can't believe it! They are trying to get me right back into pack life. I stand up and pound my fist on the desk. I need them to listen to me, and I mean really listen to me, not just smile, and nod, and then have me do what they want, anyway.
Luna Constance -
"Dear Clair, could you please not throw a tantrum right now?"
Clair -
Trying to calm down, I take deep breaths, "I want to not be a part of pack life!"
Uh Oh, I did it, my father looks angry, my oldest brothers look confused and the youngest two see me as entertainment.
Luna Constance -
"Clair, do you mean become a rogue? I won't have it!"
Clair -
"No, I want to be a lone wolf. I don't want to be in my brother's shadows anymore. I am twenty years old now, I am an adult. Shouldn't I be able to choose how I live my life?"
Luna Constance -
"Dear, you are an Alpha's daughter, that means some Alpha will be without their Luna putting their pack in danger!"
Clair -
"Have that Alpha pick a chosen mate, I know that happens often!"
My brother Cameron stands up and then looks at me and then my mother. "Mother, Clair, why don't we negotiate? Neither one of you wants to back down, thus we need you two to meet in the middle. Clair, concede about you living off pack land, but not too far away. Besides that, freedom that we will allow, you still need to attend the events that are important to mother?"
Clair -
I sit down, nodding my head, knowing this is the best negotiation they would offer me. I nod off, but Corbin and Connor have to be annoying poking my legs with sharpened pencils under the table. I keep thinking that my brothers may look older, but they are only five years of age mentally.
I am not paying much attention to the business meeting until I hear something that makes my neck hairs stand on end. "Clair, you will be the Royal Packs ambassador."
"What???" I scream not meaning to. "I am educated! I do not intend on babysitting the Royalty!"
My mother sighs, "Clair, it only means you are the negotiator, that will not be your actual job. If you have been listening, you would know what you are doing in this company!"
Sheepishly, I apologize to my mother and ask, "What is it you would have me do for the company mother?"
My mother smiles broadly now and explains the situation. "We believe there is a high-tech thief in the company, they are stealing funds and data from us. We just cannot figure out who is doing it. We know how smart you are, and we want you in charge of finding that person, so he or she can come to justice!"
I am looking forward to becoming a coding detective because of this. Everyone looks at me worried. I have a habit of yelling if something doesn't suit me. I surprise my family by saying thank you instead of yelling.
With previous meetings I have attended, my father's wolf doesn't like the disrespect I give the Alphas, so he would avoid leading the meetings. We are almost certain my wolf and his would get into a yelling argument, and the boys would drag my dad off, with my mom following to calm him down with their mate bond.
Back to my two idiot brothers who stuck sharpened pencils in my legs and had angered me, I now plot revenge.
After I excuse myself from the table and explain I have to use the restroom, I run into their office they share. Each chair has a huge tack on it. Wouldn't you think they would notice the tacks? Probably not. They are too oblivious to things that aren't sexy girls and games.
I hear everyone head to their offices; I am laughing even before they sit on the tacks, 1... 2... 3... Both my brothers scream in pain, yelling out my name. Deserves them right!
Immersed in the dark past, unable to escape the black time. However, in the depths of my heart engulfed by darkness, in such a dirty place, there is incredible brightness.
I stood on the edge of the darkness, silently watching your accompanying figures. At that moment, I slowly stretched out my waiting hands to touch, but was isolated by the transparent film. If I could call again, I could only sink into the darkness and gradually be swallowed up, until I completely disappeared and fell into hell.
In this world, some roads must be faced alone, and one must trudge alone. No matter how long the road is, no matter how dark the night is, one must walk alone and silently
I was told to attend to the King during lunch by my brother. Our special client my brother refers to is none other than the King. It turns out his spoiled son could not attend. Then again, he probably is a womanizer. I have been appointed as the King's security adviser and is tasked with determining how much security he needs for the moonlight ball.
One of the most bizarre things that happens during our lunch is that Catherine the Wolf dances around crazily. It is not possible for the King to be our mate since he has a mate. My wolf is worried now that she will go crazy. Okay, I thought to myself, fantastic. It's possible the Moon Goddess enjoys annoying me on purpose by giving my wolf a "C" name.
Upon entering the upper echelon restaurant, my brother and I find the King in a private room with one of the pack omegas. I see The Omega handing him the wine list as I enter the room. Getting a werewolf even tipsy takes a lot of alcohol, so he orders six bottles of the finest wine for us each.
Thanking him for the wine, I sit down and exclaim professionally how much I love that wine, thanking him once again for the pleasure of tasting it. The king is pleased and glances at the appetizer menu.
As I swirl the glass of wine, the aroma fills the air, and it is heavenly. I have a drink, with my wolf still acting psychotic. All I do is ignore Catherine and continue to enjoy my wine.
After we have eaten our appetizers and our meals, we begin discussing what the King would need in security for the Moon Light Ball. By the end of the discussion, I have planned on visiting the castle grounds to see what he might require in terms of security for that night. Then I would come back with my own thoughts and analysis of what they require for security.
In an uncomfortable turn of events, the conversation turns to why the King hasn't seen me at any of the Moon Ball dances for the unmated. Under the table, I kick my brother, not wanting him to tell anyone that I don't want a mate.
I turn the discussion around by explaining that I have recently graduated from the University, and I now have my masters. I have not been in the area for the balls, so I have not attended.
This is partly true. When I was sixteen years old, I graduated high school, and I just finished my university studies. In my case, I would have tried to stay away from such events had I been here.
My explanation is accepted by the King, who nods his head in agreement. My brother raises a question. "Your highness, I don't seem to recall your son attending these either. Maybe I missed him somehow?"
The King looks melancholy, maybe because he has drunk the two bottles like Kool-Aid. The king's eyes look far away, as if he was reliving a painful memory. "No, my son has not gone for years." he admits. "He is now 26 years old and still hasn't found his soul mate. That's not to say he is looking for her. The last moon ball my son attended was over five years ago. It is like he has cursed at the Moon Goddess by rejecting her gift of a true mate before he has even met her. However, this year, everything is different. I'm not backing down. He will not be King unless he finds his mate. Attendance at this year's ball is mandatory for all unmated wolves. "
Curiosity takes over. My mouth always seems to get me in trouble. "What if he rejects her, or she rejects him?" The King looked aghast at such a thing could happen. "I assure you Ms. my son will not be King unless he accepts his mate." Pushing the conversation, a little further, "Let's say I am his mate and reject him. What then?" The King looks angry and stands up, his eyes turning black. I immediately stand and explain to the King, "I am not rejecting his son. We probably are not even mates.
I am just curious, and I apologize for offending you, your highness." The King sits back down, calmer now. "And to answer your question, Clair, I will keep her at the castle until the bond sets in, once that happens she will not want to reject the bond."
My brother could feel my anger surfacing. In a mind link my brother scolds me, "Clair get your anger under control, the King can and would put you in a dungeon and forget about you for a very long time." I take a deep breath and smile at the King. Lifting my glass, I toast the Moon Ball.
The King excuses himself and asks when I would come to the Castle. I surprise him when I state right now. My brother has mind linked me and asked if I am bringing my other brothers? I laugh, "You mean Beavis and Butthead? Absolutely not! Do, Alpha!" The King has already left in his well-armed SUV.
My brother states, "You know I am a very busy Alpha!"
I laugh and give him the pouty lips and the puppy dog eyes. "Please? You are my most favorite brother." He laughs, Alright I will come with you, but remember you said I am your most favorite brother." I laugh and pinch his cheek. His wolf growls at the disrespect. I laugh. "Oh Wolfie, you know I love you too." With that, Wolfie huffs and is silent.
Driving up to the castle, the gates open upon our arrival. It is like they are expecting us. We drive up the long drive until we are in a half circular driveway and there are parking attendants to park our car for us.
I get out of the car stating, "rough life they have here."
My brother seems annoyed. "What do you think the King does? He doesn't just have one pack to run, he has the headache of hundreds of packs to run. Do you realize how many vampires, Rogues, and other supernatural beings constantly try to assassinate him? I think we can allow him the luxury of a parking attendant. "
I laugh, "Peace, my brother." Holding up a peace sign instead of a white flag.
In front of the castle doors, there is a Maserati parked with a She-wolf leaning into the window showing her cleavage. I whisper to my brother, "I know she is throwing herself at whomever is in the car. However, it is the reason she is doing it. Many girls like her feel insecure and think they can only get a man through sex. It's like they feel obligated to do so. It makes sense. In school, it is always the popular girls who put out that get the popular guys. These girls just don't realize that there is not happily ever after for them. Like any feeling creature, these girls are heartbroken when they are thrown away like trash."
My brother grimaces remembering his younger days, my brother is one of those guys who uses women for his sexual desires without considering the consequences.
The Guy in the car is more than likely the spoiled prince, I think to myself. The prince looks away from the girl towards me; I hurry and pretend I wasn't just psychoanalyzing them.
Prince Xander -
I look over at the girl walking up the stairs towards the castle doors; She is hot! Well, at least her back side is, she turned too fast for me to see her face or her eyes. I have my best friend Zach sitting next to me, noticing who I am watching. "Man, she is not in your league!"
The prince laughs, "I am the prince, if anything she is not in my league!"
Exasperated, Zach sighs, "Dude, you see Alpha right there? That is her oldest brother, and she has six older brothers, all ALPHA'S. Her brothers are overprotective, and it is almost impossible to get near her. Besides Xander, she is a geek, she doesn't date, and loves reading. "
Xander laughs, "Let me guess, you need colored pictures in your books to understand what you just read?"
"Dude, I am telling you to let that little fishy go. She is in trouble with a capital,"T".
Xander rolls up his window, forgetting that the sexy she-wolf is still leaning on the window. He hears a screeching sound of her voice and stops the car as soon as he starts it. She pulls her head from the window as Xander rolls the window up, taking off.
Xander scoffs at his friend, "Have I ever let a challenge go?" Zach sighed, "Dude you are going to get hurt with this chick, I guarantee it."
