Chapter 1 A Wolf-less Girl

Celine's POV:

"Such a wolf-less loser! Stop looking at me like that, or I will gouge your eyes out." A vicious curse sounded in my ears. Then a hard stone was thrown towards me, scratched my forehead, and left a bloodstain. I shrank to a corner. In addition to the anger and grief that I felt, envy also filled my eyes.

If only I could be like them and have my own wolf.

My name was Celine Aquitaine. My grandfather, Albert Aquitaine, was the Gamma of the pack. Our family was one of the top aristocrats all over Europe. As his only granddaughter, I should have been living a carefree life. However, he had never liked me since I was a child.

Shortly after I was born, I was kidnapped by the Red Maple Pack. My parents tried to save me, but they were killed by the Alpha and the Luna of the Red Maple Pack. My grandfather lost his beloved daughter because of me. That must be the reason why he hated me so much.

Since I was a child, I promised to avenge the death of my parents on my coming of age. This was the only way for my grandfather to like me. However, the reality was always ruthless. I was still wolf-less even when I became an adult. I could imagine my grandfather's disappointment.

I was too weak to resist attacks and protect myself. I was a complete loser and a shame to the pack.

As a result, I became a freak to everyone. My grandfather despised me even more, and even my friends began to distance themselves from me. The werewolves avoided me every time they saw me. It was as if I was a virus, and they were afraid of being infected by me.

I wished that one day, I could also have my own wolf. In that case, everyone would accept me again. Then I would be capable of avenging my parents. What was more, my grandfather would definitely like me.

At the moment, I discreetly hid in the corner of the training ground and watched a group of pack members transform into wolves in the blink of an eye. I tried to remember the whole process of their transformation.

But what awaited me was their endless abuse and beating.

"Smelly bitch, you are really courting death." These werewolves seemed to be very dissatisfied, so they started to attack me directly. One of them grabbed my hair tightly while another kicked my back. It hurt so much that tears uncontrollably streamed down my face.

"What's the use of creepily hiding and watching us? You don't have a wolf, anyway. Even if you watch us a thousand times, you can't transform into a wolf no matter how hard you try."

"I can't believe that a wolf-less loser like you still dares to live in this world."

"I'm not a loser. I also have a wolf. It's just a little late. But I'm sure it will definitely come," I retorted stubbornly.

"Really? When is it going to arrive, then?"

"You are a loser. You deserve to go to hell!" One of the she-wolves grabbed my hair and slapped my face fiercely. My mouth was instantly filled with the taste of blood, and my vision became blurry for a moment.

"Alpha has decided to kick this loser out of the pack. We will never see her disgusting face again." Scornful sneers rang out in my ears.

Although my mouth and nose were constantly bleeding, and my mind was a little fuzzy, I could still hear their words clearly.

"No, that's not true. You're lying!" I didn't know where my strength came from, but I was able to push one of the werewolves away.

"How dare you push me!" The werewolf was stunned for a while when I pushed him to the ground. But when he came back to his senses, he rushed over to me like crazy.

Then a group of werewolves approached me and pressed me to the ground. They punched and kicked me, and I felt like my bones were about to break.

"All of you, stop it!"

I heard a familiar voice not far away.

Knowing that it was Grandma, I was overjoyed.

"Bah! Do you think she can protect you all the time? Just wait and see, bitch!" snapped one of the werewolves. He even spat on me before he left with the others.

Grandma pulled me up from the ground with a worried look. Her eyes were full of distress while she checked the wounds on my body.

Andrea was my grandpa's second wife, so my mother wasn't related to her. It was probably the reason why she didn't hate me as much as Grandpa did. And because I had always been pitiful, she took care of me behind his back.

"Grandma, don't worry. I'm fine." I forced a smile, but it accidentally tore the wound at the corner of my mouth. I couldn't help but wince in pain.

"Grandma, they said just now that Alpha is going to kick me out of the pack. Is it true? They are lying to me, right?" As I spoke, I pulled Grandma's sleeve and looked at her expectantly.

She was stunned and didn't say anything for a long time. She just looked at me sadly. After hesitating for a while, she finally found her tongue.

"Celine, it's true. Alpha has ordered to drive you out of the pack." Grandma's tone was so heavy.

"What? No, I don't believe you!" My eyes widened in shock. I suddenly got agitated.

"Celine, listen to me first. You don't have a wolf now. So if you become a rogue, you will definitely die. I don't want it to happen to you, so I contacted a new pack. The Alpha of that pack happens to need a maid to take care of his brother."

"But Grandma, I don't want to leave our pack," I said with tears streaming down my face.

"Celine, don't be stubborn. My capability is limited, so this is all I can do to help you. In the future, you don't have anyone to rely on but yourself." Grandma then handed me a letter with tears in her eyes.

I held it tightly in my hand and shed tears silently. With what was happening right now, I felt so helpless.

"My dear, don't cry now. You have to be strong. Remember, when you get to the Full Moon Pack, don't let them find out that you are wolf-less. And that Alpha's brother is said to have a bad temper, so don't provoke him." Grandma wiped the tears on my face while exhorting me.

"I'll keep it in mind, Grandma." Holding back my tears, I nodded heavily.

"Grandma, can I still see Grandpa again?" I begged before I left.

"Your grandfather doesn't want to see you anymore." Grandma looked embarrassed, and there were incomprehensible emotions in her eyes.

"Celine, please understand him. He lost his beloved daughter, and you are her child. He will naturally remember your mother every time he sees you." Grandma took my hand and comforted me.

"Yes, I understand." I nodded but still felt awful. I was always the one who had to adjust and understand others. What about me? Who was going to understand me?

"But if you can personally avenge your mother's death, then maybe Albert will accept you again." Grandma touched my head, giving me a glimmer of hope.

I held back my tears, smiled at her, and promised, "I will.

I will definitely survive in the new pack. I will make myself stronger and avenge my parents. Then I will come back here." After making up my mind, I stopped being nostalgic. I just turned around and left.

But I was still worried. How could I hide the fact that I was wolf-less?

Chapter 2 Expelled

Albert's POV:

"Oh, my poor daughter..."

I sat on my desk, holding Camille's photo and stroking her face with my trembling fingers. Until now, I still hadn't avenged her, and I was ridden with absolute guilt.

While I was wallowing in pain, my wife Andrea walked into my study.

"Albert, Celine has left already. I told her that as long as she successfully takes revenge, you will accept her again." Andrea looked down at the floor and sighed. "I was just thinking... Are you maybe being too cruel to Celine? I mean, you're asking her to kill her own biological parents... Maybe it's too much..."

"What? No way!" I put Camille's photo back in my drawer and immediately refused.

"Albert, I know Camille's death was a big blow to you, but it's been eighteen years. We need to move on." Andrea looked down at my drawer and sighed.

"No, Andrea. Those murderers must pay their price!" I glared back at Andrea.

"But... it was Camille's fault, wasn't it? She shouldn't have--"

I interrupted Andrea and pounded my fist onto my desk. "No! My daughter did nothing wrong. It was all the Red Maple Pack's doing! Their Alpha and Luna must pay. A life for a life! Even worse, I want them to die in the hands of their very own daughter!"

Celine was not my real granddaughter. She was just a tool for my revenge. A mere instrument to have my revenge on the Alpha and the Luna of Red Maple Pack -- her own biological parents!

Eighteen years had passed ever since I received that horrible news. My daughter had been killed by Alpha Peter and Luna Serena of the Red Maple Pack. Poor Camille! Just the very thought of imagining her breathing her last breath alone, in a foreign land and without any family around her, was enough to make me break down every time.

I couldn't believe that my sweet, sensible daughter had been killed. Worst of all, her corpse was also nowhere to be found.

As a father, I was overcome with guilt that I couldn't protect my own daughter, nor could I even give her body a proper burial. My hatred for her murderers had grown out of control. I spent the rest of the year, racking my brains for ways to avenge my daughter.

But it seemed that simple thinking was not enough. The Red Maple Pack was one of the most powerful packs. Their Luna Serena was also a very powerful hybrid. Alone, I would never be able to match them in a fight at all. If I wanted to have my revenge, I had to come up with another way.

After years of careful plotting, I finally offered a werewolf in the Red Maple Pack a large sum of money to kidnap the Alpha and Luna's precious daughter. I then asked a witch to even conceal her scent to avoid getting discovered.

I named the child Celine.

For seventeen years now, I kept Celine under my roof and raised her while telling her that her parents had been brutally murdered by the Alpha and Luna of the Red Maple Pack.

There was nothing crueler than a family that wanted to kill each other. When the time came, Peter and Serena would meet their daughter again, only to find out that she was raised to kill them. Oh, the pain that they would feel! I looked forward to the day they would battle each other.

But Celine turned out to be a disappointment. Not only did she fail to inherit her mother's powers, but her wolf hadn't even shown after she turned eighteen. She was always hiding somewhere in the pack, claiming that she was doing some training. But I never saw her planning her revenge. What was the use of wasting so much time staying in the pack, doing nothing at all?

As my patience was running thin, I came to know our Alpha's decision of expelling Celine. I accepted the arrangement, happily almost. At the same time, I used this vulnerable time of hers to fuel her desire for revenge, hoping that she would eventually run into her own parents and kill them for me.

"Celine, my dear, don't let me down."

Celine's POV:

The next day, I safely arrived at the Full Moon Pack.

Because I had a letter of recommendation from my grandma, the Alpha let me meet him in person.

I walked down a long corridor and could hear my heart beating in my chest. The Alpha of the Full Moon Pack was also powerful. If he found out that I still didn't have a wolf, I was afraid he would throw me out too. Then I would truly be a rogue.

I arrived at the door of Alpha Liam's office and took a deep breath to calm myself down. I brought my hand up and knocked a couple of times.

"Come in," I heard Alpha Liam say from the inside.

His cold, low voice frightened me. With my trembling hands, I pushed the door open. What if he found out that I didn't have a wolf?

When I saw Alpha Liam, I guessed that he was probably in his thirties. His deep set eyes matched the coldness in his voice, and seemed to see right through my soul.

"Come, take a seat." He nodded his head toward the chair that was opposite him.

I lowered my head and walked in, not daring to look into his eyes. I meekly slipped my recommendation letter onto his desk. He took a minute to read the letter. But then he sharply turned to me.

"Why is your wolf scent so light?"

"I was told I also had vampire blood in me. I'm a hybrid." I recited to him the answer I had prepared on the way here.

"Why were you driven out by your old pack?"

"A group of she-wolves ganged up on me and got me expelled..."

My voice trailed off when I saw Alpha Liam stand up and look down at me. He was like the personification of the word 'threat'.

"Since you have been expelled from your old pack, if I don't take you in, you're going to become a rogue. Listen, the Full Moon Pack will not tolerate useless people. If you want to earn your keep, you must prove yourself."

"I will do anything, Alpha." I was relieved to hear that Alpha Liam didn't probe further into my identity. He just seemed to be asking me to work for him.

"I'm assigning you to take care of my brother Lucas. You are to report to me his every move. All the maids I hired for him had been driven away. If you can show me that you can stay by his side and help me take care of him, then I will let you stay. Do you understand?"

Was he asking me to just keep an eye on his brother Lucas? I thought it would be a simple job. All I needed to do was to look after an ill-tempered man. Instead, I began to realize that I was being forced into a situation full of tension between two brothers, which would just complicate my plans even more.

For now, I had no choice.

"Yes, Alpha. Don't worry. I will give it my best," I promised him while wondering their relationship.

Chapter 3 Mate

Celine's POV:

After Alpha Liam dismissed me, I headed to Lucas' house. From what I heard from the Alpha, it seemed that Lucas was going to be a difficult person to deal with, so I braced myself for whatever I was going to experience. Since I needed to stay in the Full Moon Pack, I was left with no choice. I had to keep this job.

"Are you Celine, the new maid Alpha hired for Lucas?" A young woman in maid's uniform answered the door.

"Yes, that's me." I smiled and nodded, hoping to leave a good impression.

"Joan." She said nothing but her name and stared me down. She then moved to the side, allowing me to come inside.

"Now that you're here, I guess I'm going to have to tell you the rules, so that you can avoid making any mistakes in front of Lucas."

"I'd appreciate that, thanks."

"The first thing you should know is that Lucas is very meticulous about hygiene. Everything in this house needs to be cleaned and sanitized for him. Not only the interior, but even the lawn outside should always be neatly trimmed and the fences should be spotless. Every day, they must be wiped clean. It is also going to be your job to prepare and serve the meals at the perfect time. You must follow the recipe strictly, as there is absolutely no margin of error for his food."

"Right. All of that is my job?"

"Yes. I have other tasks, too."

When I entered Lucas' villa, I instantly noticed how big the area was and that the whole lot had been surrounded with fences. I guessed it would take more than half a day to clean it all by myself.

On top of that, I would also have to cook his food and clean the rest of the house. To my estimate, I didn't think that an entire day was enough time to finish all the work, even if I didn't eat or sleep.

Suspicion arose in me that Joan was deliberately making everything difficult for me.

"Lastly, don't even think of getting close to Lucas. He doesn't like the scent of any other women but me. Never wear revealing clothes in front of him. Do you understand?"

There was a tone in Joan's voice that finally made me realize why she was acting this way. She had a crush on Lucas.

"Oh, don't worry about that. I'm not going to have feelings for Lucas, I promise," I told her directly so as to eliminate her suspicion of me.

Joan simply squinted at me. I considered myself attractive enough, so perhaps she still kept her guard up because of that.

"Alright, cut the crap. Now, hurry and prepare him breakfast. You don't want Lucas to wake up without breakfast, do you?"

Without even a chance to settle in or drop my belongings, I headed straight to the kitchen. I wasn't going to bother explaining myself to Joan anymore. Hopefully, as time would pass by, she would eventually decide whether to trust me or not.

When I got to the kitchen, I heard someone coming down the stairs. I turned around only to see a man with messy hair and dressed in grey pajamas.

Although he looked like he had just gotten out of bed, he still looked quite handsome and had a sly smile on his face. His hands were casually stuffed in the pockets of his trousers. There was also an undeniable powerful energy about him.

This was probably him, the man Alpha assigned me to take care of. Lucas White.

"Breakfast is ready, Mr. White. Is there anything else I can get for you?" Joan tailed him like a little puppy, handing him a glass of water.

"So, where's the new maid?" He turned his head, scanning the house, before walking towards the table. Halfway, he stopped in his tracks and I noticed a slight change in his expression. Suddenly, he turned to my direction and looked like he had found something surprisingly interesting.

"She's in the kitchen." Joan happily trotted behind him and proudly held up three fingers, "Oh, but don't worry, Mr. White. I can assure you she's not going to last more than three days in this house."

I walked out of the kitchen, holding his breakfast. Lucas' eyes widened upon seeing me. He was pouring himself a glass of water, but he froze. The water had already begun to overflow and splash all over him, but he didn't seem to notice at all.

"Uh, Mr. White? The water. It's spilling."

It was not until Joan called him back to reality that he realized what he had done. Quickly, he took a napkin and wiped himself dry.

"Joan, could you step out for a moment?" Lucas said, not breaking away from gazing at me.

"But Mr. White..."

"Go, Joan." Lucas shot her a sharp look before she could finish her words.

With a long face, Joan left reluctantly.

Once Joan was gone, Lucas sat down and tapped the table rhythmically with his fingers, which were fair and slender like those in classical paintings. He turned his gaze back to me, carefully looking me up and down. His expression was complicated, and I couldn't tell what he was thinking.

I wondered if he could sense that I didn't have a wolf.

Pretending to be calm, I walked over and placed his food before him. "Here's your breakfast, Mr. White." I then stepped to the side, awaiting his next order.

"What's your name?" after snapping out of his daze, Lucas asked me in a hoarse morning voice.

"Celine, sir. Celine Aquitaine."

His stare was so intense that I felt like my face was going to melt off. It was at this moment that I had an idea.

"I have something to tell you, Mr. White."

"Oh? Go ahead." Lucas raised an eyebrow, curious about what I was going to say.

"It was your brother Alpha Liam who assigned me to monitor your every move. Did you know that?"

Lucas widened his eyes, but then he burst into laughter.

"I have to give it to you, Celine. You are the first one who was ever brave enough to tell me the truth. What made you do that?"

"I guessed that you must have already known about it, which is why no maid was ever successful in staying too long here. I thought to tell you the truth, so that maybe you'll let me stay longer." I shrugged in all honesty.

"Now, why would you think telling me would make me keep you longer?" He put a hand under his chin, looking at me with amusement.

"I don't think you like being monitored by Alpha Liam. I'm here to make you a deal. I'll tell Liam only what you want him to hear. That way, you can keep him off your back. In exchange for you not driving me out."

Lucas burst into laughter again and even clapped slowly.

"Oh, you are so bold! It's a good thing that you are smart too. Fine. Out of respect for your courage today, deal."

I let out a sigh of relief and smiled. However, just as I thought I had successfully secured my place here, Lucas suddenly got up and pressed me onto the table with his body. With a smile on his face, he raised my chin so that our eyes met.

"I also have something to tell you, Miss Aquitaine. You are my mate. Did you know that?"
