"Alpha Austin, you're...! You're drunk," Daenerys Dondarrion looked at the man blocking her path, her eyes showing a hint of panic.
Just a moment ago, she was watching TV when Austin William suddenly returned. Before she could go upstairs, he stopped her in the living room.
Austin often traveled for work and rarely came home, but whenever he appeared, it made her feel uneasy.
Austin stared at her without saying a word, his expression unreadable, which made Daenerys even more anxious.
Suddenly, Austin spoke.
"Are you afraid of me?"
Daenerys shook her head vigorously. "No, why would I be afraid of Alpha Austin?"
In reality, she was quite scared, but not because she feared Austin would harm her, but because his overwhelming presence made her feel uneasy.
"You little flatterer," Austin lightly pinched her nose and playfully scolded her.
Daenerys' heart raced from his action. "You...! Alpha Austin, you're drunk. You should go upstairs and rest."
"Yeah, help me to my room."
"Alright."
Daenerys bit her lip, took hold of Austin's arm, and shakily helped him up the stairs.
Seeing her flushed face from the effort, Austin asked, "Am I too heavy?"
Daenerys nodded slightly, but whiffled her head. "You're not heavy, it's just that I'm too weak."
Austin silently smiled and stood up straighter, no longer intentionally putting his weight on her.
Daenerys had just showered, and the faint scent of her shampoo wafted into his nose, making his gaze grow darker.
After helping him into his room, Daenerys placed Austin on the bed and prepared to leave.
But just as she reached the door, he called out to her.
"If I remember correctly, you're about to apply to universities."
Daenerys stopped and nodded in response. "Yes, I've already made my choice."
"Which university are you planning to attend?"
"University B."
Daenerys didn't notice the displeasure in Austin's eyes as she continued, "Jackson's father wants us to attend the same university to strengthen our relationship. After we graduate, we'll get married."
Six years ago, after losing both of her parents, Austin took her into the Black Wolf pack, where he provided for her, even supporting her education. Eventually, by a twist of fate, she became the betrothed of Austin's nephew, Jackson William, the future Alpha.
Now, her fiancé, Jackson, was attending University B.
Austin frowned. "You'll be only 22 when you graduate. Don't you think getting married that early is too soon?"
Too soon! At 22, she had experienced nothing yet, so yes, marriage was too early.
But...
At the moment, she didn't have the energy to discuss this with him, so she casually replied, "I'm following Jackson's father's arrangements."
Austin stared at Daenerys for a moment, his gaze deep and unreadable. The intensity of his look made her feel even more like a frightened deer, causing her to lower her head in worry.
"Don't you have your own opinions?"
"I..." Feeling Austin's anger, Daenerys was a bit confused, not understanding why he was suddenly upset.
Of course, she had her own thoughts!
In fact, her desire to attend University B wasn't entirely because of Jackson's father but also because attending University B had always been her biggest dream, a wish her late father had for her.
For the past three years, whenever the pressure of studying became too much, just thinking about getting into University B brought her happiness...
Austin coldly watched her, her fresh, makeup-free face glowing after her shower.
Her eyes were clear, characteristic of her 18-year-old innocence.
But as he thought about her marrying Jackson in a few years, his gaze grew more clouded, a wave of malice emanating from him.
Just as Daenerys felt she might suffocate under the weight of his glare, he said, "Come here!"
"Alpha Austin..."
Daenerys, startled, approached him.
She did not know why Austin was acting so out of character tonight.
"Change your application to University A," Austin commanded.
Daenerys looked at him in confusion. "Why?"
"Do you not want to change?"
"I like University B."
Austin suddenly stood up, towering over her. "Do you like University B, or do you like someone at University B?"
Daenerys, flustered by his imposing presence, stammered but insisted, "Jackson is my fiancé. Isn't it good for us to attend the same university?"
Hearing this, Austin clenched his fists so tightly that his knuckles cracked. "You're really disobedient!"
With that, the smell of alcohol filled the air.
Daenerys thought Austin was about to hit her, so she closed her eyes in fear. Seeing her trembling with her eyes closed, Austin's anger cooled significantly.
He sat back down, regaining his haughty demeanor. "Go to bed."
To Daenerys, those three words felt like a pardon.
She exhaled in relief, not hiding her eagerness. "Alright, I'll go to bed now. Goodnight, Alpha Austin!"
With that, she didn't waste a second rushing out.
It was as if she feared Austin might suddenly change his mind and call her back.
Watching her slender figure flee in panic, Austin clenched his fists, his gaze cold.
Want to attend University B? Want to strengthen your relationship with Jackson?
Have you asked for my permission yet?
Austin's eyes unmistakably showed possessiveness.
...
The next day, at school.
After class, the teacher called Daenerys into the office.
Not knowing why, she nervously followed the teacher, wondering if she had done something wrong.
As soon as she entered, the teacher smiled warmly. "Sit down, Daenerys. Don't be nervous."
The friendly attitude left Daenerys a little puzzled.
"Daenerys, why didn't you tell us you're related to Mr. Keel? Your last name is Du, and his is Keel. No one would have guessed Mr. Keel is your uncle if you had said nothing."
Daenerys was about to clarify that Austin wasn't her biological uncle, but it didn't seem necessary.
"Sir, how do you know my uncle?" This was her biggest question.
"Well, you see, Mr. Keel changed your university preference. He wants you to attend University A. With your grades, getting into University A won't be an issue. He made a good choice."
"What?" Daenerys's eyes widened in shock, and she quickly stood up.
Remembering Austin's strange behavior the night before, she bit her lip in frustration.
"Sir, I want to change it back. I don't want to attend University A. Alpha Austin must have misunderstood."
"Well..." The teacher looked slightly troubled. "You might not know this, but Mr. Keel has already applied to the system, so there's no way to change it now."
Daenerys was stunned.
She wasn't naïve; she clearly understood that all of this was Austin's doing.
But why did he want to change her university preference?
...
Leaving the office, Daenerys's mood was terrible. Without Austin's phone number, she had no choice but to call his assistant, Ricard.
"Hello, Assistant Ricard. I need to speak with Alpha Austin."
"I'm sorry. Alpha Austin is very busy right now. He has an engagement tonight."
Daenerys insisted, "I really need to talk to him. Please tell me where he'll be tonight, and I'll go to him. I won't interfere with his work."
On the other end, Ricard hesitated before finally saying, "How about this, Miss Daenerys? I can't decide for Alpha Austin, but I'll ask him after work and call you. How does that sound?"
Daenerys had no better option. "Okay, I'll wait for your call."
She didn't know why Austin changed her university preference, but she would not compromise. She had to make Austin change it back!
This whole incomprehensible situation left her feeling extremely uncomfortable and resentful.
Outsiders could never truly understand the significance of attending Midorri University to her.
That dream didn't solely belong to her; it also belonged to her late father.
One hour later.
AOF Corporation.
Austin shook hands with each client, instructed his staff to see them out, and then returned to his office.
Ricard quickly caught up with him. "Alpha Austin, Daenerys just called."
Daenerys rarely called him. The last time she did was about half a year ago. The old man was gravely ill and wanted to see him. That was extremely important.
Now, she suddenly called, but there was no surprise on his face.
"Does she want to see me?"
"Yes. She wants to know your evening schedule and said she wants to have a few words with you."
Austin casually placed the document on the table. He was silent for a moment, his well-defined fingers lightly tapping on the document. After a while, he said, "Let her come."
8 PM.
After having dinner at the villa, Daenerys immediately called for a car to take her to the "Mugari" private club.
This was her first time coming to such a luxurious and extravagant place.
The uniform she was wearing had been changed into a simple white chiffon blouse with a bow at the collar. Below, she wore a long black skirt and round-toed white shoes. Her long hair cascaded down her shoulders, giving her a fresh and innocent look.
Such attire was really out of place in this environment.
Daenerys's expression remained unchanged as she assessed this strange place. This was the world of people like Austin-glamorous, chaotic, novel, yet also corrupt. It was far removed from her fresh and simple world.
She entered and directly mentioned Austin's room number. The staff immediately led her there.
On the other side, the room was bustling with activity.
A group of people was playing cards. Only Austin sat alone, while the other three had brought along beautiful girlfriends. They were whispering and chatting, making the room lively.
Austin wasn't in the mood to play cards. He glanced at his watch; it was already 8:30.
Across from him, David Otis reached out to collect his winnings and put them in the drawer, teasing, "You didn't bring a girlfriend today, so you're not performing well."
Jacky Halley shuffled his cards and said, "It's rare for Alpha Austin to be so accommodating. The three of us should stay sharp-payback time."
Daniel Sherwood looked at Austin's face and said gleefully, "Judging by that expression, you've got something on your mind. Thinking about a woman, perhaps?"
Austin shot him a look. "You talk too much."
"How about this-I'll lend you Yuna for a bit." Daniel patted his girlfriend's waist, grinning as he said loudly, "Go on, go soothe our Alpha Austin's cold, lonely heart."
The woman stood up, but Austin coldly glanced at her.
That gaze remained expressionless, dark, yet it immediately made the woman freeze in place, not daring to move. It was too intimidating, like a monarch from ancient times, commanding such fear that no one dared to act out of line.
Daniel let out a sigh, pulling the woman back. "Alpha Austin, with that attitude, you'll scare off any woman."
Austin recalled the encounter with that little one at the villa two days ago.
She was truly afraid of him.
He couldn't help but take an interest in Daniel's words and asked, "What attitude?"
"The attitude of a grim reaper," Daniel said, holding the woman close and seriously advising, "Women are creatures you can't scare; you have to be gentle, like I am..."
He didn't just talk; his hands also moved, as the woman pretended to resist while they tangled with each other.
At that moment, the door to the room was suddenly pushed open from the outside.
What met Daenerys's eyes was such a scene.
She had never seen anything like it before today.
She had seen some explicit scenes in movies rated 19+, but witnessing it up close was a different experience. It was embarrassing, utterly embarrassing.
Her face turned bright red in an instant, so red it seemed like blood might spill from it. She stood frozen, stunned for a long time.
Inside the room, Austin's expression had already turned very unpleasant.
Everyone's eyes shifted towards the door. Someone even whistled.
David laughed and spoke first, "Where did this pure little sister come from?"
Jacky kicked Daniel under the table, "You scared her half to death."
For a moment, Daenerys's mind went blank, but she finally snapped out of it.
She glanced at Austin in the distance, said nothing, and then turned to leave.
Such a scene made her, as a junior, feel very embarrassed.
Watching her retreating figure, Austin frowned, threw the cards in his hand onto the table, and didn't move. His face was cold as he sat there waiting.
The atmosphere in the room immediately chilled considerably. The three men exchanged glances, vaguely sensing something wasn't quite right.
No one spoke; they simply exchanged silent guesses about who this girl might be, who had just appeared and managed to cause a slight fluctuation in Alpha Austin's typically calm demeanor.
Unusual! Truly unusual!
The room remained silent for a few minutes, with no one breaking the silence.
"Alpha Austin."
Until...!
A voice was heard from the doorway once more.
Daenerys had returned.
It seemed she had calmed down; her face looked much more composed.
"Alpha Austin?"
The other three men frowned, somewhat surprised by the way she addressed him.
Austin's expression didn't change much. He simply picked up the cards again, ready to continue the game. It was as if the tense atmosphere earlier had been an illusion.
He didn't look at the girl at the door and casually said, "If you have something to say, come in and say it."
Daenerys didn't respond, standing at the door. Besides the awkward scene earlier, the heavy smell of cigarette smoke in the room was overwhelming. She really didn't like it.
Seeing that she wasn't moving, Austin glanced at her, "Not going to speak? If you're not going to speak, go back and rest."
His tone remained one of a superior speaking to an inferior, lofty and authoritative.
Without another glance at her, he instructed the staff, "Close the door. It's too noisy outside!"
Daenerys had resolved to talk to him about her university application tonight. Now that she had come all this way, she wasn't about to let him shut her out.
With that thought, she stepped into the room and closed the door behind her.
Austin's expression gradually relaxed.
David looked at his cards and smiled, "Alpha Austin sure is good at playing cards. This 'soft approach to get the hard result' tactic is quite masterful."
Austin understood what he meant, but he didn't care much. He shifted his gaze towards Daniel, "Put out the cigarette."
Daniel, who had been unable to resist smoking, said, "I've been smoking all evening, and you didn't say a word. Now you tell me to put it out. I'll die if I don't finish it."
Austin didn't waste words with him. He simply grabbed the cigarette and put it out in the glass ashtray.
Daniel scoffed, "What a strange guy. Normally, you wouldn't care."
Jacky and David exchanged glances.
Could it be for someone's health?
Strange! Too strange!
Alpha Austin had never been so considerate of anyone before!
The two exchanged searching looks and, without planning it, both turned their gazes toward Daenerys.
Daenerys didn't hear the conversation between Austin and Daniel; she walked straight to Austin's side and stopped.
"Alpha Austin, I need to talk to you." Suppressing her fear of him, she knew she had to speak her mind now, no matter what.
"Hmm." Austin let out a nonchalant hum, neither warm nor cold.
She took a deep breath and lowered her eyes to look at him.
This man, even while seated, had a commanding presence that was enough to intimidate anyone, even when she was standing.
Having mentally prepared herself, she spoke, "I want to change my university application. Please inform the education department."
Austin impatiently threw down a card, his expression unchanged as he said, "Must you attend Midorri University?"
"Absolutely, I must attend Midorri University." Her gaze was resolute.
"And what if I say you must attend Crepuscolo University instead?"
Austin was a man with unpredictable thoughts, so Daenerys didn't waste time trying to guess what was on his mind. She simply held firm to her own conviction: "Alpha Austin, you are my elder, and you've been my guardian. Under normal circumstances, if you had any requests of me, I would certainly agree. But..."
Austin's face tensed.
She immediately added, "This time, I can't!"
"Is it because of Jackson?" His words were cold, like stones.
Daenerys nodded. "Midori University has always been my dream."
She paused, then added, "And Jackson's too."
Those last four words made the room's temperature drop significantly.
Austin's brow furrowed, exuding a chilling aura that seeped into the very air. "From now on, forget about your dream. You will attend Crepuscolo University. Even if you don't want to, you will!"
His tone was firm, leaving no room for negotiation.
Having her dream crushed for no reason, Daenerys couldn't help but protest, "Alpha Austin, you can't be this unreasonable and controlling."
Austin's expression grew even more severe.
Well, well!
This girl, who used to be as timid as a rabbit around him, too scared to even breathe loudly, was now daring enough to lecture him-just to attend the same school as Jackson!
"A dream is yours, and so is your life. I know you have the power to move mountains, and I know I'm just someone you took in, so I shouldn't harbor any resentment. But I hope you won't control my life."
Oh, how pitiful she sounded, talking about being "taken in." But when had he ever made her feel pitiful?
"Did I pay for your education just so you could go to school and fall in love?" For the first time, Austin looked her directly in the eye, his gaze so cold and intimidating it sent a chill through her entire body. "Before I lose my temper, you'd better take back your insolence!"
Those words, "insolence," struck Daenerys's sensitive heart.
She bit her lip.
"After I get into university, I'll immediately find a part-time job to earn money. From now on, I'll pay for my own tuition, so Alpha Austin won't have to worry about me anymore. I also plan to move out of Alpha Austin's house. Once I've earned enough, I'll repay the kindness you've shown me all these years."
Austin's face darkened.
He slammed the cards in his hand onto the table with a loud thud, causing the others in the room to look tense.
Before Daenerys could regain her composure, Austin's tall figure loomed over her.
His towering form stood there, cold eyes staring her down. "Repeat what you just said!"
The temperature around him was icy cold.
Daenerys felt a shiver run through her as she looked at him, fear rising in her heart.
If this were any other day, she would have backed down by now, needing all the courage she could muster to speak up to Austin.
But now...!
She licked her lips. "Alpha Austin, I'm already eighteen. From now on, I need to live independently..."
She hadn't finished speaking when her chin was suddenly grabbed by his fingers.
His grip was strong, as if he wanted to crush her entirely.
The pain made her eyebrows knit together.
Independent living? When he first brought her back, he had wanted to let her live independently, but what was the result?
The result was that while he was away, she had the audacity to make an engagement with the Black Wolf pack without his permission! Absolutely unforgivable!
"Now that you're of age, you're eager to break ties with me?" Austin's voice was deep, commanding respect without needing anger.
In all these years, this was the first time he had come so close to her. Daenerys could even smell the faint scent of tobacco mixed with his cologne.
This man was extraordinarily dangerous.
Daenerys felt a lump in her throat as she looked at his cold, handsome face. It was difficult, but she managed to breathe out, "I'm just an orphan with no home to return to. Someday, I'll have to leave the Black Wolf pack. Alpha Austin...!You just said I didn't know my place, so if I were to stay, that would really be not knowing my place."
Why was this woman so eager to leave him? Did she really like Jackson that much?
Austin's eyes darkened, and the strength in his grip increased.
In that moment, the pain caused her face to turn pale, and it became even harder for her to breathe.
"Since when did you have the authority to make decisions?" Austin's eyes grew even colder as he lifted her chin, forcing her to look him in the eye. "Daenerys, the day I grow tired of you, you'll pack your things and leave immediately! But until I send you away, you'd better behave and stay in the Black Wolf pack! Don't push me!"
"Alpha Austin, you're being completely unreasonable!" Daenerys fumed, her small face flushed with anger.
Austin's expression became even more icy. "Do I need a reason to deal with a pet? Daenerys, do you have that right?"
The word "pet" pierced Daenerys deeply.
Austin would always stand on high.
He was the sky, the king, the lord.
And she, Daenerys, was the lowly servant kneeling at his feet.
"So that's how Alpha Austin sees me-as a pet." She scoffed.
Austin stared at her indifferently, saying nothing more.
"In your eyes, I'm just a dog you've raised, so you can trample on my dreams, change my university application without my consent! You think I should be like a dog-come when you call, leave when you tell me to!" Her voice grew louder with anger.
He couldn't help but twitch an eyebrow.
To him, she was like a little kitten he had raised. Outwardly gentle and harmless, but when she extended her claws, they were sharp! For so many years, no one had dared to shout in his face like this!
Daenerys was the first, and she would be the last!
"Alpha Austin-no, Alpha Austin!" Daenerys corrected herself, standing tall with a defiant look on her face. She gritted her teeth and said, "From now on, I won't be your pet anymore! I'm leaving tonight!"
After saying that, she glared at him in frustration and turned to leave.
Everyone in the room was stunned.
This...!
Where did this fearless girl come from, daring to challenge Alpha Austin's authority in front of everyone? If Austin's face hadn't looked so terrible, they would have applauded her courage.
But...!
Daenerys took a step, and in an instant...!
Her elbow was suddenly grabbed by a large, iron-like hand.
She turned back, alert, but before she could react, she was thrown onto the bed in the room with brutal force.
The bed was incredibly soft, and her body sank into it.
As she regained her senses, she almost immediately tried to get up.
But a dark shadow loomed over her.
Austin leaned over, one hand pressing down on her waist, holding her in place.
His presence was overwhelming, and just one look from him had the power to kill!
And now, she was on the bed with Alpha Austin...! In such an ambiguous position.
Their faces were so close, close enough that she could feel his breath on her skin.
Daenerys's eyelashes trembled violently, and her breathing began to grow labored.
Being so close to him made her heart race, filling her with a sense of fear and unease.
