Chapter 1 The Escape

Malia's POV

"You're looking very pretty" he turned to me and fear chills ran up my spine, "What's your name?" He asked. "Malia," I said as I shivered, "I guess you haven't told them why I'm here. Please do" he smiled handing the floor to Maverick.

Maverick stood up, and cleared his throat, "Alpha Rhys here has been very generous to us" he started as we all looked in surprise, "When I was on the ground he helped me bounce back on my feet; he gave me a house, this house" he said referring to our house.

"He funded my firm when I almost went bankrupt"

He is the CEO of Blackwood Capital – A wealth management firm handling elite investments and banking.

"So what more can I do than give my beautiful daughter here to him" he smiled turning to me. That was shocking because I couldn't remember when last he smiled at me. I was shocked, Mom was shocked, we were all shocked.

"You can't do this to my daughter Maverick!" My mom rose, "Well I thought we could do this calmly" Rhys said as he signaled his guards, "You can't do this, I already have a mate!" I yelled.

"I already signed the deal, there's no going back."

"It's my life, my choice, you can't tell me what to do with it, you're not even my father!" my face contorted with distress, my eyes filled with tears.

"She's not going anywhere!" My Mom intervened, and she gripped me tightly. "I wouldn't be so sure," Rhys said ushering his guard to hold her down.

"I'm a man of my word, so when I keep my end of the bargain, I expect mine to be kept," he said as one guard handed him a gun. "This is silver, I guess you all know what it does to the body," he said pointing it at Ethan.

"Don't!" I yelled, "No I'm not gonna harm anyone if you follow me peacefully, but if you don't, I'll make you watch them die one by one," he said with an evil smirk.

I was just fidgeting, hoping Logan was on his way.

"Please let me just get something from my room", I asked. "You don't have to worry about anything, everything will be provided for you." He answered gesturing me to stay put.

"It's just this piece of jewelry my dad gave to me, it's really precious to me," I said, but I had my motives.

"You've got a minute," he said as I hurried straight for my room, I locked the door to make sure no one was able to come in, and then I climbed down from the window.

Outside, I saw some of Rhys's guards but I managed to maneuver past them, as I was moving in the dark hand dragged me into the dark, I wanted to scream but my mouth was covered.

"Shhh, it's me" I heard the voice of Logan and I felt a deep sigh of relief, "What took you so long?" my face dropped with worry, "When I saw those guards outside I knew it was no good, what's going on?" He whispered.

"Kieran warned me" I cried, "I can't believe this is happening." "What's you happening?" He asked with curiosity building up. "That ogre, my step-father, I can't believe he sold me off to that son of a b*tch (Rhys) over some stupid deal I knew nothing about."

He scratched his head, his mouth was set in a tensed, anxious smile, "I'm not gonna let that happen,"

"What do we do?" I asked, my eyes widened, and my eyebrows shot up in terror.

"We run," he said, "My mom is at the Arcane moon pack, that was her pack before she married my dad, we can go stay there till we figure out what to do next."

It occurred to me that my disappearance had already been noticed when a light flashed at us, "Over there!" A guard yelled as they ran towards up.

"Run!" Logan growled, we ran to Logan's bike and rode away but they gave chase with cars, we had a reasonable gap between us but my heart was pounding so fast I was struggling to catch my breath.

"Are you alright?" Logan asked me as we rode away, "I'm scared" I replied, my lips trembled as I thought about what Rhys would do if he managed to catch us.

"We'll get through this, together." He said with assurance in his tone, I just held him tightly as we rode with great speed. "I hope Ethan is okay."

"He'll be fine, he's a strong kid..." he trailed off as the bike came to a stop. "Shit!" He blazed with fury as he hit the bike with his fist. "Quick, to the woods!" He ditched the bike by the road as we ran on foot through the woods.

"We have about 17 miles to go and we've barely made it a mile, so we continue on foot through the woods till morning, then we weigh our options."

My eyes darted widely through the woods sending fear chills down my spine, "Are you okay" Logan asked, and I nodded in a yes. "Good, we've got lots of ground to cover."

Just a few steps into the woods, we heard a growl as a grizzly bear appeared in front of us. It attacked Logan but he ducked the attack as his eyes turned red with fangs and claws coming out, he growled with a strong alpha command voice.

The bear seemed afraid as it stiffened and its eyebrows dropped, it ran off into the woods. I turned to Logan, "They know where we are," he let out a deep sigh, his eyes cast downward.

"How?" my face paled, draining of all color as fear took hold.

"My growl, We must go now, run!" he yelled as we took on our heels, running as fast as we could. I was still confused as I tried to process the situation in my head, not long after, we started hearing voices and shouts behind us. "Find them!" a voice yelled.

Chapter 2 Run

Malia's POV

It's Rhys," my lips trembled, barely holding back a scream, "keep going, don't look back!" He said as we kept running, my eyes weren't as adapted as his as I've not been able to shift, though I showed a little sign of shifting earlier before all this tragedy befell me.

I tripped on what seemed like a log and I fell to the ground. Logan rushed to me lifting me up. "Are you okay?"

"No, I think I twisted my ankles" I hinted at my foot, a mixture of pain and frustration on my face. "Shit," he said lifting me on his powerful arms. "You'll be okay," he said as he ran with me on his shoulders, showing no bit of struggle.

Suddenly, the noise behind us just quieted down, silence filled the forest with only a constant murmur of rustling leaves, shifting with the unseen hands of the wind.

As Logan carried me through the dense forest, the silence between us was palpable. My ankles throbbed in pain, but I was more concerned about escaping Rhys. I glanced over Logan's shoulder, but the darkness seemed to swallow everything.

Suddenly, Logan stopped and listened intently, I followed his gaze but saw nothing. "What is it?" I whispered.

Logan's eyes narrowed. "I thought I heard something. Stay quiet."

I nodded, my heart racing. We stood there for what felt like an eternity. The only sound is the distance howling of wolves.

Logan's grip on me tightened. "We need to keep moving," he whispered. "We're not safe here."

I nodded, and Logan began to run again. The Forest seemed to blur around us as we fled from our unseen pursuers.

As we ran, my mind wandered to the strange occurrences in my life. The shifting problem, the harassment from my step-father......

Logan's voice interrupted my thoughts. "Malia, we need to hide. Now."

I looked around, but all I saw was the endless forest. Logan, however, seemed to know exactly where he was going. He dodged trees and leaped over roots, with me clinging tightly to him.

We finally reached a small clearing, and he gently set me down behind a thick veil of foliage. "Stay here," he whispered. "I'll scout ahead and make sure we're clear."

I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. I watched as Logan disappeared into the darkness, leaving me alone and vulnerable.

As I waited, the silence seemed to grow thicker, like a living entity. My senses went on high alert, and I strained to hear any sound that might indicate Logan's return...or something more sinister.

Suddenly, a twig snapped behind me. I spun around, my eyes scanning the darkness. That's when I saw it: a pair of glowing yellow eyes staring back at me.

"Here you are," the voice said. But before he could come close to grab me, Logan snapped his neck from behind. "We have to move now, they're trying to round us up."

He grabbed my hand, and we took off in a sprint, the darkness of the forest seeming to swallow us whole. The trees blurred together, the branches tangling above like skeletal fingers.

"We need to get out of here, fast," Logan yelled over the pounding of our footsteps.

I nodded, my heart racing in my chest. I could hear the sounds of pursuit behind us, the snapping of twigs, and the rustling of leaves.

Suddenly, Logan yanked me to the left, and we burst through a thicket of brambles. My skin scraped against the thorns, but I didn't dare look back.

We emerged into a small clearing and I saw a glimmer of light in the distance, "what's that?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Logan's eyes locked onto the light, "It's a cabin. We can lose them there."

I nodded, and we sprinted towards the cabin. Just as we were about to go in, "Wait! Something feels off, we can't go in." He paused.

"What's wrong?" my eyes widened in terror.

He dragged me off in another direction, I could feel them gaining on us as the sound of pursuit increased.

As we ran, our footsteps echoed off the walls of the canyon. Panic set in as we reached a dead end - a sheer cliff dropped off into the darkness below. My eyes widened in terror as I grabbed Logan's arm. "Oh my God, what do we do now?" I exclaimed, my brow furrowed in desperation.

Logan's face was set in a determined expression, but I could see the fear lurking in his eyes. Before he could respond, Rhys emerged from the shadows, a smug grin spreading across his face.

"Well, well, we meet again, Logan," Rhys said, his voice dripping with malice. He clapped his hands together, his betas moving to flank him. "I'm going to give you a chance to hand over the girl and walk away."

Logan's jaw clenched, his eyes flashing with anger. "I'll pass," he growled.

Rhys's grin faltered for a moment before he collected himself. "Well, then there's nothing much I can do for you," he said, his voice cold. He nodded to one of his betas, who handed him a silver gun.

My eyes went wide as Rhys raised the gun, my heart racing with fear. "Don't do this!" I pleaded, trying to reason with him. "Come with me and no one gets hurt."

Rhys's face twisted in a snarl. "She's not going anywhere with you!" Logan yelled, stepping forward.

The sound of the gunshot was deafening. Logan's body jerked backward, his eyes wide with shock, as he stumbled toward the edge of the cliff. I screamed, my voice echoing off the canyon walls, as Logan fell, his body disappearing into the darkness below.

"Nooo! Logan!" I wailed, my face contorted in anguish. I felt like I was going to collapse, my legs trembling beneath me. Rhys's face was a blur as he turned to me, his eyes gleaming with triumph.

"Logan" I whispered as I sat down on the ground, my shoulders slumped, with a defeated look on my face.

I knew it was over.

Chapter 3 The Stranger

Malia's POV

A week before

"Come on Malia, You can do this" I whispered to myself with my eyes closed and taking a deep breath. I couldn't stop myself from listening to other girls talking, some were talking about shifting while others talked about finding their mate.

I've been trying to shift for a long time now all to no avail, my half-brother is a sixteen-year-old beta, and I'm twenty and still a wolfless Omega.

"Malia concentrate, don't think about anything just focus on shifting" Allegra's voice came from behind, she had been my best friend right from childhood and she also shifted at age eighteen.

"Yeah I will if you can just keep quiet and let me focus" I replied still closing my eyes trying to concentrate. "Well I don't think I'm your distraction," she said.

"You are now" with a tone filled with frustration, "Malia!, Malia look at me," she said as she grabbed my shoulders.

I opened my eyes as I turned to her looking like I was going to cry. "I know you're anxious, I mean I understand, but don't let it get to you, just close your eyes and forget about every thought, let the energy flow through you" I just nodded my head in a yes, and turned back to continue.

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and suddenly I started feeling this energy, it was like electricity coursing through my veins, I let out a little growl as I could feel my fangs and claws come out. I could hear Allegra shouting in joy, "Yes Malia, yes! You're doing it".

All of a sudden I just felt the power die down, I fell on my knees to the ground and Allegra rushed to me, "Are you alright Malia?"

"Yeah, I guess" but with the sad look on her face I could tell something was wrong, "I didn't shift, did I?"

She shook her head in a no. I looked up to the sky lamenting "Oh Moon goddess, what have I done to you, why have you abandoned me, I...." I trailed off when one of the girls shouted "Run!! It's Kieran".

Kieran and his beta friends are a group of bullies who enjoy tormenting weaklings like me, they nicknamed themselves the fearless five. The girls took off leaving I and Allegra behind, they were so close to us and we couldn't run because they would catch up with us in a split second.

"Well well well if it ain't miss wolfless," Kieran said clapping his hands and walking towards us, he had this evil smirk on his face and felt so proud as he walked, "Leave us alone Kieran, we don't want any troubles" I said trying to hide my fears, because deep down I was very afraid of him.

He laughed out loud turning to his friends "Look at this bitch, telling me what to do?" "She is not a bitch dickhead and you heard her, leave us alone" Allegra responded in a fearless tone, chills ran up my spine as I was shocked at how courageous Allegra could be even though we were outnumbered.

"Or what? huh?" Kieran asked in a low tone, looking at us with that same evil smirk, "what are you gonna do" he asked, this time with a powerful tone, "I'll show you" Allegra said as her eyes turned yellow, "get behind me, Malia!" Allegra screamed and I with no bit of hesitation quickly stood behind her asking the Moon goddess for help.

"Wow, is that so? Do you think you stand a chance against me? Just because you're a beta?" "yes, yes, and yes" Allegra replied with her arms akimbo, Kieran scoffed and turned to his friends who also laughed. One of the guys said to him "I think we should just let them go, they're afraid of us already" "And since when do you think for me?" Kieran asked with a thunder-like voice.

I just stood shivering, I couldn't bear it any longer "Kieran, what have we ever done to you? Why won't you just let us go?" He turned to me as if surprised. "Come now, don't be afraid wolfless, I'm not gonna hurt you" "Don't call her wolfless" Allegra intervened and I was just quiet.

"Well then show me your wolf, shift and I'll never call you wolfless," he said flicking his fingers, "can we go now?" I asked, "Come on now, that's not polite, say please," he said raising his shoulders with a smirk on his face, he tried coming closer but Allegra growled at him with her claws ready for action "Stay back! Don't come any closer".

Kieran's countenance changed as if pissed, but aren't we the ones supposed to be pissed? Because we were being hassled for no reason, he raised his hands to strike and I just closed my eyes and ears in fear, I could hear the bullies scream, the sound of growls and punches, I began to wonder when Allegra got so powerful as I didn't hear her scream.

When I opened my eyes I saw the fearless five lying on the ground groaning from pain, and standing there was a man in a black hood, he had this tall and muscular figure, I couldn't see his face as it was dark and he had a hood on, I could only see his chin. I looked at Allegra and saw a very surprised look on her face as she just stared with her mouth wide open.

"Go now before I change my mind," the strange man said to the fearless five who picked themselves up from the ground and ran off without a word. In my mind, I was like who is this man for the fearless five to be so afraid of? Besides he single-handedly handled the five of them.

"Pussies" he said as they ran off, "ex...excuse me" I stuttered, "who are you?", "go home, they won't be bothering you anymore," he said as he turned to go "Why did you help us!" I asked in a more curious tone, but he just kept walking.

Allegra tried to grab his hood but he was so fast that he grabbed her hand "Don't worry about who I am" he said, "Worry more about staying out of trouble".

We just stood there in awe.
