Celesta Chen POV:
After enduring three years of agonizing herbal injections to bear an heir for Alpha Hazen, I stood at the Healing Sanctuary with my positive pregnancy report, only for the Beta Healer to inform me that my mate-bond certificate was a fake.
A bucket of ice water seemed to pour directly over my head, freezing the blood in my veins.
"I'm sorry," the Beta Healer said, looking at me with a complex mix of pity and hesitation. "Alpha Hazen already opened a pup-bearing registry with another female. Your Luna registry... it doesn't exist in our system."
"That's impossible," I forced a trembling smile. "We've been bonded for five years."
"There is no mistake," she said softly. "Half a month ago, Alpha Hazen brought his pregnant mate here for her first checkup."
A wave of dizzying nausea hit me. I steadied myself against the counter, refusing to believe it. Hazen loved me. He was the one who saved me, a frail orphan, and made me his Luna.
Because my inner wolf was dormant due to a rare immune disorder, everyone in the Holden Pack considered me a "wolfless defect." For three years, to give Hazen a strong heir, I endured toxic moon-herb treatments that left my arms covered in dark, swollen bruises.
Hazen had been away on a "border patrol" for half a month. I came here today to confirm my pregnancy, wanting to surprise him when he returned.
This had to be a misunderstanding.
I stumbled toward the elevator, planning to go to the Pack registry to check my bond status. Suddenly, a thick wave of cedarwood tangled with cloying sweet roses slammed into my nose.
Every werewolf possessed a unique scent. Cedarwood belonged to Hazen.
I instinctively hid behind a marble pillar, my breath catching in my throat.
It was my husband. His muscular arm was wrapped securely around the waist of a young, beautiful woman, his large hand gently caressing her flat stomach.
My eyes turned bloodshot as I recognized her. Kerri Talley. The twenty-year-old beloved daughter of the most powerful Pack Elder. She was everything I wasn't: young, fertile, and backed by immense political power.
"Hazen," Kerri whined, wrapping her arms around his neck without a care in the world. "Do you think our pup will look like you or me?"
Hazen's voice, the same voice that whispered sweet nothings to me every night, dripped with absolute doting. "I hope the pup looks like you, beautiful."
They walked right past my hiding spot. I dug my fingernails so hard into my palms that they pierced the skin, but I couldn't feel the pain.
This man had called my phone every night for the past two weeks, telling me how much he missed me. Yet, he was spending every second with another woman.
I felt like the biggest fool in the world.
Driven by a desperate need for the whole truth, I followed their scent to a high-end Pack lounge across the street.
Standing outside the slightly ajar door of their private VIP den, I heard the loud laughter of Hazen's Beta warriors.
"Alpha, you and Luna Kerri are too sweet! You're making us jealous!"
"Yeah, Alpha is so lucky. He has the obedient Celesta keeping the Pack house clean, and Kerri warming his bed. What a life!"
Kerri giggled, burying her flushed face into Hazen's chest.
Hazen chuckled lazily. "Enough. Kerri is shy."
My heart felt like it was being crushed by a boulder.
They all knew. They called Kerri "Luna" to her face. I was the only idiot kept in the dark!
"But Hazen," Kerri pouted, tracing his jawline. "What about Celesta? She still thinks she's your true Luna."
Hazen let out a cold, disdainful snort.
"Her bond certificate is a fake. A wolfless orphan like her could never pass the Elder Council's approval. Kerri's father controls the Pack's military budget. Marrying Kerri cements my absolute rule, and she will give me a strong, pure-blooded heir."
"Then why keep her around?" a warrior asked.
"She's stubborn," Hazen said casually. "If I didn't use the fake bond to trap her, she would have left. It's been five years, and she never suspected a thing."
Through the gap in the door, I saw Kerri tilt her neck proudly, revealing a deep, permanent bite scar where her shoulder met her throat-the undeniable Marking of an Alpha claiming his mate for life.
My brain buzzed as if a bomb had gone off inside my skull.
A fake bond. Five years of marriage, all a lie. His promises, his love, all a disgusting illusion.
He didn't just betray me; he orchestrated a massive fraud to keep me as his docile pet while he built a real family with another woman.
Tears blurred my vision, but I didn't cry out. With trembling fingers, I pulled out my phone and recorded their voices. I wouldn't let this slide. I would make him pay.
Dragging my exhausted, shattered body out of the lounge, I walked aimlessly down the bleak street.
Lost in my agonizing thoughts, I didn't notice a speeding black SUV swerving toward the sidewalk.
Just as the metal bumper was about to strike me, a large, powerful hand shot out and gripped my waist, pulling me hard against a rock-solid chest.
An overwhelming scent of arctic snow and pine instantly wrapped around me. A terrifying, electrifying jolt sizzled across my skin where his hand gripped my waist-a sensation so intense it made the blood in my veins boil.
I gasped, jerking my head up.
I found myself staring straight into a pair of deep, icy blue eyes that radiated the suffocating, absolute Dominion of an apex Alpha King.
The world around me seemed to freeze. Under his predatory gaze, my previously deadened heart began to hammer wildly against my ribs, an unprecedented, dangerous shiver tearing straight through my soul.
Celesta Chen POV:
"Are you hurt?" his deep, gravelly voice vibrated against my ear, sending another jolt of electricity down my spine.
My brain was still blank from the shock. I stared at his sharp, flawless jawline and numbly shook my head.
A respectful Beta assistant stepped up behind him, leaning in close to whisper in the Alpha King's ear. "Alpha King, the car is ready. We must leave immediately if we want to track down the descendant of the ancient Moon-herb master."
The man's icy blue eyes lingered on my pale face for a fraction of a second longer. Then, without a word, he released me and stepped into the back of the elongated bulletproof Maybach.
I stood frozen on the sidewalk, my breath shaky as the sleek car disappeared into the traffic.
An hour later, I pushed open the heavy doors of the Holden Pack estate.
Martha, the Omega maid, walked up to me without bothering to bow her head. "Luna, Alpha called earlier to ask if you were home."
In the past, whenever Hazen called to check on me during his business trips, I foolishly thought it was out of deep love and concern. Now, the thought made my stomach churn. He was either trying to ease his guilt after sleeping with Kerri, or worse, using the servants to monitor my every move.
"I'm taking a few days off," I said, my voice dropping to a glacial pitch that made Martha flinch. "You can take a vacation too. Pack your things and leave the house today."
"But... Alpha Hazen is coming back this weekend!" Martha stammered, shocked by my sudden harshness.
"My decisions do not require your approval," I snapped, walking straight past her up the grand staircase.
Entering the Luna suite, I pulled out a suitcase. I didn't touch the designer dresses or the expensive jewelry Hazen had bought me. I only packed my plain clothes and the ancient medical journals left by my grandfather.
As I reached for my toothbrush on the nightstand, my fingers brushed against the amber bottle of "fertility vitamins." Because I had trusted Hazen with my life, I had swallowed these pills every single morning for three years without a shred of doubt.
But now, a sudden, chilling suspicion crept into my mind. I twisted the cap off and crushed one of the capsules against the table.
As the descendant of a Moon-herb master, my sense of smell for botanicals was unparalleled. The moment the powder broke apart, a faint, bitter scent hit my nose.
Wolfsbane.
My blood ran completely cold. My legs gave out, forcing me to drop onto the edge of the bed.
Wolfsbane was highly toxic to our kind. In small, continuous doses, it wouldn't kill immediately, but it would suppress a wolf's genes, cause extreme fatigue, and permanently ruin the womb.
For three years, I had blamed myself for being a barren, weak defect. I felt guilty for not giving Hazen a pup. But all along, it was him. He was systematically poisoning me to keep my White Wolf bloodline dormant, ensuring I remained his submissive, easily controlled puppet!
A wave of pure, unadulterated hatred washed over my shattering heartbreak.
I dumped the toxic capsules down the drain, packed my bags, and moved straight into a small apartment I had secretly bought near the Pack's R&D center before we got married.
Just as I locked the apartment door, my phone buzzed violently. It was a barrage of missed calls and messages from Hazen.
I took a deep breath and answered.
"Celesta, baby! Martha said you packed a bag. What's going on? Are you throwing a tantrum because I'm too busy to keep you company?" Hazen's voice dripped with his usual, sickeningly perfect fake concern.
Before I could speak, a whiny, breathless voice echoed clearly in the background.
"Hazen~ come help me dry my hair!"
It was Kerri.
My stomach violently churned. They were literally in a hotel room together, and he still had the audacity to play the loving husband.
"Who is that?" I asked, keeping my tone deceptively flat.
Hazen let out a forced, awkward cough. "Don't misunderstand, baby. Elder Talley brought his daughter along on this trip. She's just a spoiled heiress used to getting her way, and I have to humor her for the Pack's sake. I'm transferring two hundred thousand dollars to your account right now. Go buy yourself those bags you liked. I earn money just to spoil you."
A notification popped up on my screen. The money had arrived.
I clenched my fists until my knuckles turned white. He thought he could buy my blindness while he built a family with his mistress.
"Hazen," I asked coldly. "Will you ever betray me?"
He didn't even hesitate. "Never, Celesta. I am not like other Alphas. You are the only woman I will ever love."
I hung up the phone, a dark, mocking laugh escaping my lips.
If I hadn't gone to the Healing Sanctuary today, I would have died believing his lies. But I wasn't going to let him get away with this. I was going to tear his corporate empire apart and take back every single thing I built for him.
Celesta Chen POV:
The next morning, I dressed in a sharp professional suit and returned to the Holden Pack's R&D center for the first time in five years.
My grandfather had been a renowned master of ancient moon-herb medicine, and I had inherited his unparalleled gift. When I first joined the Pack's company after graduation, Arthur, the Beta Vice President who deeply respected my grandfather, immediately recognized my talent.
But after I married Hazen and stepped away from the lab to focus on bearing an heir, Hazen kept the "Director of R&D" title for me, thinking it was just a vanity label to keep his Luna happy. To him and the rest of the Pack, I was nothing more than a trophy wife. He had no idea that for the past five years, the core anti-silver serums keeping his military contracts afloat were secretly perfected by me. I had been working from home, discreetly guiding Arthur through every formula crisis.
Barely had I stepped into my office when Arthur hurried over, looking deeply troubled.
"Luna, you're finally here," Arthur whispered tensely. "Alpha just officially brought Kerri into the R&D department. He assigned her to take over the new silver-resistance project."
A sharp pain stung my chest.
Hazen wasn't just parading his pregnant mistress in my face; he was casually handing over my life's work to a woman who knew nothing about it, simply because he thought my position was just for show.
But the pain quickly morphed into a glacial calm. My grandfather's moon-herb formulas required precise neutralization.
I calmly opened the notebook on my desk and tore out the page containing the core neutralizing herb ratio.
"Let her take it," I said softly, slipping the page into my pocket. "Moon-herb medicine isn't something anyone can just copy."
Before Arthur could reply, a spiritual tremor slammed into my skull. Hazen was using our Pack Mind-Link.
"Celesta, I heard you went to the office today. Are you throwing a tantrum by pretending to work?" his voice echoed in my head, dripping with patronizing authority. "Stop being unreasonable. Oh, and Kerri suffered a minor injury at the border. I brought her to our house to stay for a while. Come home early tonight and cook dinner."
He actually wanted me to act as a maid for his pregnant mistress.
Because my White Wolf was suppressed by the wolfsbane, my knees buckled slightly under the genetic compulsion of his Alpha tone, but I dug my nails into my palms and forced myself to stay calm.
At seven that evening, I walked into the estate's dining room.
Kerri was already sitting at the table. The moment she saw me, she put on a pitiable, innocent pout.
Hazen walked in, acting every bit the generous provider. "Kerri is a junior who works hard for the Pack, and her father entrusted her to my care. She needs a good meal to recover. Serve the food, Celesta."
I walked into the kitchen, grabbed two bowls of plain, unseasoned boiled pasta, and placed them onto the table.
Kerri took one bite and immediately spat it out, her eyes rimming with dramatic tears. "Hazen, it's so salty... Did Luna do this on purpose because she's jealous that you let me join the company?"
Hazen frowned deeply, his face darkening with disappointment. He unleashed a wave of his Alpha aura.
"Celesta, what is the meaning of this?" Hazen scolded, playing the righteous patriarch. "Kerri is injured and she is our guest. Where is your generosity?"
Refusing to cower, I summoned every ounce of my dormant White Wolf bloodline to brace my spine. "I cooked. If she doesn't like it, she can starve."
Hazen choked on his words, clearly stunned by my sudden defiance.
Kerri quickly tugged at his sleeve, her voice dripping with venomous sweetness. "Hazen, don't be mad at her. It's just... the guest room mattress is too hard for my back. Can I sleep in the Luna suite?"
I stared at Hazen, waiting to see just how low this hypocrite could sink.
He rubbed his temples and looked at me with a demanding sigh. "Celesta, be sensible. She's injured and she's an Elder's daughter. Move your things to the guest room for a few days. Don't make a scene."
A cold, mocking smile touched my lips. "Since she likes it so much, she can have the room. I don't care."
Without looking at them again, I turned around and walked straight into the guest room, locking the door behind me.
