Chapter 1 Bumped into each other

Chloe's POV

*
I sniffed in the harsh smell of antiseptic and sanitiser; it's a smell I have become familiar with. I smiled as I stared out the window at patients sitting on the front porch; the smile was not completely real. I had a lot on my mind, and if there was anything that could stop me from thinking too much, it was the sight of patients grinning from ear to ear as they received gifts and flowers from their loved ones.
"Miss Chloe, someone called from behind. I jolted back to reality and turned to the blonde-haired gentleman standing in front of me.
"The new doctor said you are needed at the ICU now,Richard said with his eyes fixed on my body.
We've been working there for a few months now as interns, and he always calls me Miss Chloe. It was a little bit weird; the last time I told him to stop calling me Miss Chloe, he started calling me Amica Mea (my love), which was even worse. He always made it pretty obvious that he was hitting on me, which disgusted me a lot.
As I walked to the intensive care unit (ICU), I could feel him staring intensely at my backside. I picked up a folder and headed straight for the ICU.

Alexander's POV

"We need to gather the remaining resources we have and take drastic measures."
"Have you gathered the database of the last two weeks?" I asked the skinny, middle-aged man standing in front of the projector.
"Yes, sir, this is the printout, he said, dropping it in front of me. I went through it and then nodded for him to continue his presentation.
After an hour, the meeting was adjourned. I rubbed my temple. I could feel my lower abdomen growling. I was starving. I needed to eat something before heading for the next meeting. I decided to call out to my personal assistant, Harry, so he could make some reservations. Harry walked into the door as if he knew I was about to call him. He had this worried look on his face; I couldn't quite understand his expression.
"Young master, he said, rather shaky than usual.
"Yes, Harry, go on."
"I just got a call from the head maid; she said, Your father...
"Speak up, Harry." I snapped and quickly regretted it. I was really hungry at that moment and wasn't ready to start listening to Harry count his words.
"Your father fell from the stairs and collapsed; he's currently in the hospital undergoing medical care."
"What?!"
I stood up quickly and stared at him for a while. I could see him shaking seriously.
I wouldn't blame him; that was the effect I had on everyone, even my workers and my dad's workers; they always saw me as some kind of cold-hearted beast. Well, they were right; I was cold-hearted and didn't really care about most people except for my dad; he was the only family I had, and I wasn't ready to lose him.
"Which hospital?" I asked the pale-faced assistant; he stuttered for a while.
"San Fernando Medical Centre, "he said. I could tell that he was shaking because of the way I snapped at him earlier and also because he was scared because of what happened to my father. Harry was like a second son to him.
I looked at him for a while and then left.
I walked into the tall building and could feel people staring at me. I just walked unbothered with a cold look on my face, that cold look that had always been there.
I turned to the receptionist, who was just staring at me with dreamy eyes.
"I'm looking for Mr. Roger Davis; I'm a relative."
"Uhhm...he's in ICU; it's the room on your right, "she said, still blushing sheepishly.
I walked to the room and met my father laying on the bed; the moment he saw me, he quickly sat up."
"Dad, are you okay? Does your back still hurt? Do you need me to get you something?" I asked, jumping around like a kid worried about his dad.
My father smiled widely; it was the first time in a long time he heard me call him Dad. I've always been calling him Sir, but at that moment I was so worried.
I turned around and could see Harry staring at me in bewilderment. I quickly stood up straight and adjusted my suit.
"Are you okay, Sir?" I asked him, and he laughed.
"I'm okay, my dear son. It was just a minor injury, and I'll be back on my feet before you know it, "he said, very lively with a smile. He always had that smile even when he was suffering inside. That's why it was always hard for me to tell what he was feeling.
I spoke with the doctor for a while and then decided to head out to get something to eat. There was a restaurant just outside the hospital. I walked out of the ward; there was no sign of Harry anywhere. I looked around, still searching for him. I bumped into something. I groaned in pain as I heard clashing sounds on the floor. The person stepped on me. I looked up furiously, and at that moment it felt like the world stopped. I wanted to curse the person standing in front of me, but all I did was stare like a little kid lost. I accessed the figure standing in front of me. She had dark long hair and sea blue eyes and a very sexy body, which was really obvious even with her big shirt and pants. I watched her intensely as she bent to pick the object that had just fallen. I studied her face, and she looked a bit angry.
"Hey! Can't you look where you're going? You've broken my phone." "And you can't even say sorry, you jerk."
'Jerk', did she just call me a jerk? The audacity. I wanted to tell her to shut up, but I couldn't form the words in my mouth. I just kept on staring at her, wondering what was wrong with me. I was watching this little intern insult me, and I couldn't do anything about it. She began to hit my chest angrily.
"Say you're sorry now, she was commanding me. This young girl was commanding Alexander Davis. I struggled to get words out of my mouth.
"No, I said, trying to sound as cold as ever, but my mouth failed me; it sounded more like a whisper.
"What!?"you jerk"
Here she goes again, calling me that name.
I snapped out of the trance immediately and was now fuming furiously.
"I have nothing to be sorry for, I said coldly, glaring at her. If Glares could kill, she would have been dead by now.
"What do you mean? You broke my damn phone, she said, waving the slightly broken phone in my face. From how angry she sounded, I could tell the phone was either special to her or she didn't have money to pay for a broken screen.
By now, people were already gathering around us. I looked at the girl, wondering why my cold glares weren't working on her. Most of the people I know, once I stare at them like that, would immediately feel frightened.
Harry ran towards us.
"Young master, what's going on?"
Before I could speak, the girl beat me to it.
"Tell your young master to apologise for breaking my phone, she said fearlessly. Harry stared at her in utter bewilderment; he never imagined anyone would have the mind to speak to his young master like that.
"You stepped on me, so clean my shoes, and that's an order!!" I snapped and could feel the people around me stiffen except the girl in front of me.
"Sure thing, Boss, she said with a smile. I smirked. It looks like I have finally won, I thought to myself, but what happened next left me in shock. She picked up a cup of milkshake that was on a table and poured everything on me, then smirked deviously and swayed her hips left and right as she walked away. "Harry, catch that girl!!" I screamed like a kid that was just bullied by some older boys.

Chapter 2 Working at the Davis mansion

Chloe's POV

"Chloe, you're a badass."
I heard someone say as I walked down the hallway. A lot of doctors, nurses, and interns were already out of their stations; most of them were surprised when they heard what happened. "Our beautiful lioness, Richard teased. I just smirked and sat in a corner.
I sighed as I stared at my broken screen. It took me a lot of work to get that phone. I had to work multiple jobs in order to save up enough money for the phone.
I tried turning it on, but it refused to turn on.
"That jerk, I cursed inwardly.
I sat there replaying the incident in my head and felt a little bit sorry for the guy; he didn't see me, the same way I didn't see him. That's why we bumped into each other, but what made me react that way was the fact that he refused to apologise.
Like, who does he think he is?
He looked kind of rich; maybe he was a big businessman.
I just shrugged the thought off. I didn't really care who he was; I just needed to find a way to fix my phone.
After many attempts of trying to turn on the phone, it finally came on, and the message that popped in made me freeze at the spot. It was a text from one of my father's creditors; he was threatening to sell our house if we don't pay him off.
When my father was sick he borrowed money from different people and different companies to pay his debts, and now that he was no more we had to pay off the debts.
I didn't have enough money, and I was merely an intern in the hospital, so I wasn't getting much from there.
I needed to get another job-a well-paying one and fast.
My head was hurting really bad,I was so confused and had no idea what to do.
I smiled slightly as I scrolled through my phone, staring at pictures of Jeremy Fange.
He was my celebrity crush; he was actually a musician.
I knew he would never know someone like me, but there was this inner joy I always felt when I stared at his pictures.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking. I'm a crazy fan girl, but you can't blame me; the guy was really hot.
He had dark, thick hair with light brown eyes; he kind of reminded me of the jerk I saw earlier.
Wait what!!! Why the heck would that guy's face come to mind? I must be going crazy. I sighed and held my head in frustration.
A few hours later, when I was done with my shift, I decided to head straight home because my head was hurting so badly. When I got home, I stood at the front door and froze on the spot when I heard the voices inside the house. I could hear my brother screaming at someone; the person was laughing hysterically, almost sounding like a lunatic.
"Oh no, Bryan! I screamed once I recognised the second voice.
I pushed the front door open and saw my uncle in the living room holding a knife in his hands while Bryan was screaming and crying at a corner. Uncle Mack was a lunatic; I guess he must have escaped from the hospital; he does that frequently.
I quickly went on my knees and began to beg him to leave.
Immediately he saw me; he began to laugh even louder.
"Are you here to rescue your brother, you murderer? he screamed.
"Please, uncle, I said with tears in my eyes.
"What are you begging me for? You and your brother killed the only person I had; you killed my brother."
"You monsters!!" He sat on the floor and started crying. I quickly looked at Bryan and signalled him to call the police, which he did immediately.
I stood there silently watching my deranged uncle cry his eyes out as I fought back the tears in my eyes that threatened to come out.
He wasn't always like this; when my parents were alive, he was said to have a slight mental disorder, but he went fully mad when they died. He lived his entire life with his brother, my dad; he was all he had, and once the one he loved so much died, he just went crazy, and he always blames me and Bryan for the death of his brother, calling us murderers, not minding that we were his blood.
I pitied him a lot. I was currently the one paying for his treatment at the hospital.
Not long after, the police finally arrived and carried him away.
I looked at my brother, who looked really frightened.
"We have to sell this house and find another place. I knew Uncle Mack would break out again and still come straight here, so we needed to move far away.
From one problem to another, I really needed some kind of miracle, I thought to myself. Just then my phone buzzed; it was a message from my friend Derrick.
"Hey dear, have you heard the news? Mr. Davis, one of the biggest billionaires and founder of the BKB Group, is looking for a carer, someone to take care of him. He said he'll pay the person very well and the person would get to live in the Davis mansion. You have to apply for this. You are really good at taking care of old people. The interview is tomorrow; call me when you get this. "I stared at the message on my phone; this was an opportunity for me; I would be able to pay all my dad's creditors and take care of my brother and my uncle.
But would Mr. Davis want to employ someone like me? I thought to myself.

Alexander's POV

I walked out of my bedroom sluggishly. Today was my off day, and I was expected to rest, but that wasn't something I was used to. I called out to Harry, who rushed in quickly; he was fully dressed, which was really weird because it was just morning and we weren't going to the company today. "Where's my dad? Isn't he joining me for breakfast?"
"Oh, he has already eaten. He left really early because he has an interview to conduct." I looked up with furrowed brows.
"What interview?"
"The interview for his new carer"
"Why didn't he send someone else to conduct the interview?"
I knew my dad liked to do things with his own hands, but he knew better than anyone else that conducting interviews took a lot of work.
"He wants to carefully select his carer; he plans to give them a series of tests."
"Typical Mr. Davis, I said with a smirk, then proceeded to munch my food.
I sat on the couch, staring at the television. I just finished watching two movies. I was used to working all the time, so I felt kind of bored. I checked the time; it was almost evening. My stomach made a funny sound, and I called out to Harry but got no reply.
Where the heck did he go? I thought to myself.
Then I perceived something delicious; it was coming from the kitchen. I stood up quickly and headed straight to the kitchen.
I guessed Harry must have known that I would get hungry and decided to prepare something for me.
"Hey, Harry, why?" I stopped on my track when I got there. It wasn't Harry that was in the kitchen; it was a female, and she was dishing the food, her back facing me, so I couldn't see her face. Maybe she was a new maid.
I stared at her for a while. From her backside, you could tell she was beautiful; she was so endowed, and the gown she wore brought out her curves. I couldn't lie, she had a really impressive backside.
She turned once she noticed my presence, and in that instance, my heart skipped a beat. I stared at her lost for a while, and then slowly my blood began to boil.
I folded my fist angry as I remembered what she did to me in the hospital.
"What are you doing here?"

Chapter 3 His Past

**Chloe's POV

I walked into the big kitchen. My stomach grumbled like a wild beast. I looked around and saw some ingredients on the counter and decided to make something for myself.
The cook offered to prepare something for me, but I insisted on doing it myself. I wanted to go straight home and cook for myself, but there were some things I needed to finish up.
I smiled as I remembered how the interview went. I can't believe I am now working in the Davis mansion.Mr. Davis insisted that I move in right away with my brother; he even offered to pay my brother's school fees.
What a generous man, I thought to myself.
Just then I heard someone move behind me, so I quickly guessed it would be the head maid because she was supposed to bring some paperwork for me.
My eyes widened in shock. It wasn't the head maid standing at the door; it was my worst nightmare.
What the heck was he doing here?
"What are you doing here? he asked coldly, glaring at me. I could see the rage in his eyes; that same rage mixed with fear and shock was in mine.
"Can't you answer my question? What are you doing here?" He asked again, but this time he sounded like he was about to chase me out. I stared at him, looking for the words to say, but I was too shocked to speak.
I quickly remembered that Mr. Davis said he had a son. Wait, was he the son?
Was that why that man called him Young Master at the hospital that day?
"What are you doing in my house! he yelled.
"I work here now, I said calmly and turned and continued what I was doing, ignoring him totally. "I know all the maids that I employed, and I don't think we asked for a new one, so get lost, he said, walking towards me.
My heart was beating seriously, but I still managed to keep my cool. If there was one thing I was good at, it's masking fear.
"I can't leave. I was told to wait for a here, I said, turning to face him.
I couldn't lie, he was so damn handsome. He had dark, thick hair and light brown eyes just like Jeremy Fange. He was wearing a robe, and I could see his hard chest from the opening on the robe. Damn, he looked dreamy.
He was glaring at me; if only he knew all the naughty things going on in my mind, he wouldn't even stand in front of me like that.
"Who told you to wait?" he asked
"I told her to wait, Mr. Davis said from the door. He was supporting himself with a walking stick as he walked into the kitchen.
"Dad, what are you doing down here? You were not supposed to climb the stairs because of your leg," the jerk said, rushing to help Mr. Davis.
"I'm fine, son. I just came to get my carer before you end up throwing her out of the house, he said, then looked at me.
"Your carer?"
"Yes, I just hired her. It wasn't easy, but I was able to hire the best. She'll be starting work tomorrow, and she and her brother will be living with us, Mr. Davis said.
I was informed about that earlier when I signed the documents, but now it just feels different because I would be living in the same house with the jerk; should I just reject the job? No, I couldn't; it was an opportunity of a lifetime. I needed the money.
"Why didn't you speak with me before employing her? This is also my house too; you didn't even care to ask how I felt about this, he said angrily and stormed out of the kitchen.
"I'm sorry for my son's behaviour; ignore him; that's how he behaves sometimes; you work for me and not him, okay?"
"Okay, sir, I understand. I smiled lightly.

Alexander's POV

I kicked my room door open angrily.
I rubbed my head and sighed in frustration. I couldn't believe that I would be living with that sassy intern in the same house.
"Harry" "Yes, young master."
"Please get the car ready. I want to go for a drive. I need to clear my head." "Okay, sir," he said and left.
I walked into a bar not too far from the mansion. I just sat at a corner and sipped my drink. I rarely go to places like that, but at that moment I was in a bad mood, and I needed to get my mind occupied by something else.
After an hour, I was already drunk. I could feel the stares of some ladies who sat at a corner; they stared at me like they wanted to poke holes in my body.
Then a lady in blue dress walked up to me.
"Hey handsome, Are you up for a one-night stand?" she asked. I looked at her in disgust.
"No, I don't like desperate women, I said coldly and walked away. She pulled me back and proceeded to kiss me. I succumbed because I was totally drunk.
She then tried to take off my shirt, but then I pushed her away and stood up. I saw a face in the crowd-a very familiar one. I rushed into the crowd, chasing after the person.
I finally met the person standing at the counter, looking just as I remembered her to be, then she turned and faced me and smiled.
"Mom, where have you been? I've missed you, I said with tears in my eyes.
"Alexander, she called her voice, still sounded the same way it did years ago.
"Wake up,she said.
"Huh, I asked with furrowed brows.
And then she was gone. I looked around but couldn't find her. I was hallucinating; it wasn't real. Tears fell from my eyes slowly as I realized that I was just hallucinating; she could never come back; she was gone forever.
"Young master, are you okay?Harry asked as he ran to hold me up. He was shocked when he saw tears in my eyes.
"She was here just now. I saw her, "I said slowly.
"Who was here?"
"My mom, I saw her."
Harry quickly hugged me and patted my back slowly.
"Please don't cry, young master; let's go home, he said, wiping the tears off my face.
He helped me to the car. Harry was like a brother to me; unlike most of my employees, he understood me so well, even more than I understood myself.
I staggered into the living room. My head was hurting really bad, and everything was blurry.
I saw a figure standing in the living room. I rushed in and hugged the person so I wouldn't fall on the floor.
I could feel a soft feminine chest; her scent was so divine. I smiled as I hugged the person so tightly.
I felt warm instantly; all my pains felt like they evacuated at that moment. I didn't want to get out of her arms; I just wanted her to hold me that way forever. I could hear her breathing fast; her breathing sounded so cute in my ears; it was like music to me.
"Please don't let go, I whispered faintly and then drifted off to sleep.
