"Don't fucking die.. Don't fucking do it baby. Just hold on a little longer" Asher muttered through clenched teeth as he quickly shifted into his werewolf form and disappeared into the wild.
It was a cold winter morning.
The weather harsher than ever as it blew bitterly at his wolf as it continued to race through the tree lines and towards an unknown destination. The icy cold environment unable to stop it in its quest as the wild beast continued to race along. Pushing it's paws to go a tad bit faster.
It dark furs were glistering with snow dust as it leaped over a few death logs in its path before arriving at a clearing just over the edge of the forest. And over there on the snow covered ground, lay a lifeless woman whose body was half frozen with ice yet mutilated with several bullet holes.
The wolf was obviously offended by the sight before its blazing eyes, as it let out a soul shattering howl into the air over and over again before it quickly transformed into a huge man who is none other than Asher himself as he stood with bulged muscle and rock abs, his expression just as pained as he stared down at the scene before him. Even though he was butt naked, he didn't seem to care as he went crashing on both knees before the lifeless body on the ground.
Anyone could tell, the death woman meant something to him from the way he caress her limp body into his chest before his shaky hands went to sweep across her face, shutting her lifeless eyes as well.
His whole body shook with rage and soon, his silent sobs had morphed into a much louder wail. His large hand, balled into a tight fist by his side. Even though it has only being a couple of minute since he got there, it's felt like forever before he sniffed back his tears and then stood up from the ground, gathering her dead remains into his arm as well.
Fresh tears gathered in his eyes as he stared at the bullet holes scattered across her stomach and shoulders.
His nose twitch slightly at the familiar scent of gun powder that was still fresh in the air, causing a low snarl to erupt through his clenched set of teeth.
Unable to hold back his tears, he let them trickle down his cheeks over and over again as he cradle her cold body into his chest and began to rock her softly. He ran his fingers through her soft curls. Those golden strands of hair seem to hold a lot of memory for him as he smiled and cried a bitter sweet tears at the feel of it between his shaky hands.
His brown hazel eyes trail further across her body, stopping at her flat stomach and another tears slipped down his cheek.
Finally he placed a long lasting kiss against her forehead then eyelids before inhaling her scent deep into his lungs as though trying to commit it deep to memory.
He expelled another round of breath after a while, his eyes now narrowing into slit as he stared at nothing in particular but from the look on his face, anyone could tell, something more cynical was brewing in his mind, a heightened thirst for blood settling deep into his crawling skin.
And Suddenly, something steaming from a place of great pain that was almost demonic, he found himself wanting nothing more than to take his own pound of flesh but he knew it'd be best to wait.
He knows exactly what needed to be done and even more? How to get it done. His enemy won't know what hit him until it does. Until then, he has to first lay his mate to rest.
**
One months later.
Asher who sat with clenched fist and an equally clenched jaw hasn't said a single word other than snarling and growling at anyone who tried to get even close to him. The only person bold enough to even try is his best friend and beta Alex but still he knew the subject of Macy's death was totally off limit even to him.
Asher has refused to shave or have a change of clothes as he sat by the dark corner in his room, dressed in a black cloak, the same piece of clothe he had wore to lay his mate to rest.
No single word has been uttered ever since then. His sunburn curls has grown an inch longer and looked very much unkept as he gaze into nothing, his eyes blazing with naked rage yet he sat still with an air of calmness.
Was he heart broken? Angry or plotting something bad. No one knows what could be running through their Alpha's mind and no one dared to ask.
Only Asher knew the depth of his own grief. How much he was hurting on the inside. Only he could describe in detail how much anguish and pain he could be going through just seating there. The exact amount of rage that has and was still burning through his chest when he kissed his mate goodbye for the very last time.
He could barely smell her intoxicating scent in the air lately, as it was starting to fade into the atmosphere yet Asher refused to let go of her lingering memory. He just couldn't even if he wanted to. Every bit of her was still buried deep into his mind like a song stucked on a fucking replay.
Was it that he can't do it or simply want to hold on to every bit of her lingering memory until he get drowned in them. He wanted to get drown in them even if it meant having a piece of her to hold on to.
A piece of her he could easily bury himself into until he was lost between her warm slit walls. Asher was suddenly overwhelmed with the thought of burying his cock into the wet warm fold of his mate like he did before. He needed to feel his harden erection sliding in and out of her hole once again while she screamed out her orgasm over and over again.
Asher needed to have her between his arms like he did that morning before she was lost to him forever. Before all that was left was nothing but her memory.
Asher knew exactly the kind of mate he was blessed with. Macy was so fucking naive and innocent. So much so that she didn't realize how wicked the world they live in really was. His pack was a safe fortress no doubt but he couldn't say the same for the world outside and he wanted so bad to protect her from it. Heck, he really did.
He was always cautious and overly protective of her every move, in and out of the pack, whereas, Macy hated being followed or constantly trailed because the only way she could be in her element is when she is free without restrictions. That was how naive his mate really was.
Macy was a free spirit. She thrived for the cold, frigid air outside, not the watchful eyes of a guard that he was offering and if Asher was to be honest to himself, a part of him had always known he won't be able to keep her tame for long but he still wanted to try, hence his reason for making his skilled omega her bodyguard even though she hated it. And now she was lost to him forever.
It hurt him so much because she wasn't the only one he lost that day as Macy was with child. A child that would one day succeed him as Alpha of the Night claw pack.
His blood boils with rage as he thought of adversary. The only person could have found his mate, still with child, and have the heart to riddle her body with pellets of silver bullets while she was out for a run in the woods as always.
Abraham Lincoln has being a thorn in his flesh for as long as he could remember. And now, he has taken something of his that he couldn't just let slide. Macy had died in her human form, unable to shift into a wolf because of her condition, and that was what Lincoln had capitalized on.
Her weakness as a woman.
Asher had his hands balled into fists, blinking back the tears that threaten to spill from his eyes as he stood up from the ground and then turned to face his beta, Alex who had come with news regarding the hunter who has taken everything from him.
With two long stride, he quickly covered the distance to where he stood and grab hold of the brown envelope within his grasp.
His eyes turned sharp and then narrowed into slit as he stared down at the piece of information in his hands before he growled under his breath, a sense of satisfaction growing deep in his heart. The moment he was waiting for has finally arrived.
"Get prepared. We leave for the city first thing in the morning." He growled at his Beta who only nod in acceptance before exiting his brooding presence.
Beth's POV
Eighteen year old Beth sat down on a black leather arm chair at Marvel corps reception. Her spine straighter than a new pencil even though anxiety was starting to kick at her from every damn angle known to man.
A sigh slipped out her lips when her stomach grumbled noisily and she patted it gently before allowing her back to fall against the comfort of the chair behind her and then glanced at the wall clock hanging on the yellow painted wall.
She has been waiting for more than an hour already and looked like she will have to wait around a bit much longer.
Beth bite down at her lower lips in subtle frustration when she realized how many more minutes she has to wait for her turn.
This was going to be her fourth job interview in a single week.
Beth was definitely racing against time, trying her possible best to keep up with the rent on her single room apartment in downtown LA.
She was already down with two dead jobs and a flower shop that was starting to carter mostly for funerals and father's day.
And father's day had never being her favorite thing to carter for especially when they remind her of the awful man she is unfortunate to call her father. Getting bumped in a boarding house after her mother died at a tender age of eight wasn't the worst part but not showing up for her final graduation was the height of it.
Throughout her stay at St. Katherine girls college, he never once sent a letter or came to see how she was faring which wasn't exactly surprising given how much love he has shown her over the years which was none.
And now, she was finally out of that hell hole and doing the most she can to survive and stay sane through the storms of life.
She keep taking up odds jobs just to stay out of street because out there isn't safe for anyone and no matter how crappy her little apartment was, it was still better than being homeless at night with no place to go.
Beth knew that a lot had to be done in order to get away from the life she was currently living hence her decision to hunt for a better paying job and even though, time kept proving itself to be tough on her, Betty refused to be broken by it.
The door opposite where she sat cracked open and at the same time pulling her out of her train of thought momentarily. She glanced over and noticed the same young lady who had gone in earlier before her, walked out of the door with a sly smile on her face.
Her once neat and tailored plaid skirt now looked slightly rumpled while her red lipstick was all smeared into the corner of her lips horribly.
Beth couldn't help but stared openly at her as she continued to sashay her way towards the exist.
She wondered what the interview could be all about as she stood up and brushed the edge of her pencil skirt slightly before walking to stand in front of the door.
With her right hand placed against the door knob firmly, she took a deep breath to calm her wrecking nerves slightly before pushing the door open and stepped inside.
**
Beth stepped out of the elevator still cussing under her breath incoherently at exactly twenty minutes later. She couldn't believe all that was required of her to do during the interview in order to pass the stupid test was, just for her to get on her damn knees and suck the bloody CEO dick like a damn hoe.
What was his exact words again? "Welcome miss Lincoln, we are so lucky to have you interviewing with us today. You'd make one fine ass secretary no doubt" he uttered ever so sweetly causing a shiver to snake down her spine not to mention how much the hair at the back of her neck stood at edge when he strolled around his desk to huddle beside her with a flirty smile on his face.
Beth had no doubt he must have said the same words to the girl from earlier as well.
"A fine lady such as yourself deserve all the luxury in the world. First class flight, designer clothes, apartment in LA and a blank cheque to cash out whatever amount you like" he paused midway, his eyes narrowing down at the curve of her dress. "All of the above comes with being my secretary but first thing first, you have to do me a little favor" He said with a little smile.
Beth forced herself to blink just once as she summoned the courage to speak once again. "What favour might that be, Sir?"
His little smile became even wider as he leaned over and whispered those abominable words into her ears causing her in turn to cuss and screamed at the man before running out the door.
"That sick bastard!" she exclaimed even louder recalling the look in his eyes when she finally made it into the crowded street.
What does he take her for? A fucking sex worker? because that would be over her penniless eighteen years of existence of course.
She'd do anything to earn a living but having sex with a dirty old bag like that man just to land a good paying job in a place like that one, was definitely not going to be part of it.
Hell no!
She'd rather beg on her knees for Mrs. Jonah to rehire her at the flower shop than stoop as low as that. If there was anything she had promised herself in this life was to work with integrity and not let herself be objectify by any man and certainly not by a douchebag like the one she had just encountered a while ago.
Beth was so engrossed in her troubles that she didn't realized the side walk and street was now filled with people trying to flag down yellow taxi to save themselves from getting drenched from the drizzling rain.
The earlier sunny day had become a dark rainy cloud and throwing everyone into a chaotic mess.
After several unsuccessful attempt to get a taxi, she began to race down the rainy street as fast as her legs could carry her, with her brown leather purse clutched tightly against her chest.
The downpour seemed to be increasing by the minutes as she continued to hurry down the street. Just when it was starting to blur her vision, she darted into the nearest stand post with a relief sigh.
Her raven black hair that was rolled into a curly wave and seating at the nap of her neck a while ago was now looking a total mess. Not to mentioned, her once dried piece of clothing now dripping wet with rain water onto the floor.
Still cussing under her breath in frustration, she began to squeeze out droplet of water from her skirt over and over again.
Beth couldn't believe what a disaster the day had turned out to be for her. Not only did she not get the job, she also got drenched from top to bottom.
How freaking great!
She continued to tug at the hem of her dress in a bit to get rid of more droplets of water before she could catch a cold but got startled by a male voice.
"You might wanna stop doing that"
She whirled around and finally noticed her companion and took in his appearance carefully.
A young man stood by the corner with his arms folded causally across his chest and staring back at her with a blank expression.
He looked to be older than her and also very handsome. His short sunburn hair was styled in a messy way and some of it tip tousled to the front with dark brown hazel eyes. A lot of mystery seem to be hidden in them as they stare intently at her.
Beth quickly composed herself and even brushed some sticky strains of wet hair away from her face with a scoff.
"How do you mean?" She asked, faking nonchalance with a slightly raised brow at his direction.
Pushing himself off the red metallic painted wall, he buried his hands deep into his leather jacket with a scoff of his own. "You are too pretty to act dumb don't you think?"
"What?" She asked, slightly offended by his words as she was caught off guard.
He replied her with a careless shrug.
"You know exactly what I mean"
"Well, I do not. Care to enlighten me?"
"These streets are filled with perverts and you seemed to be giving them quite a show a while ago"
He pointed towards a group of youngster at the opposite street with his head and her stomach dropped slightly at the realization.
They were all staring at her with a smirk on their faces. One of the kids actually grab at his crotch area while sticking his tongue out at her.
"Well, I'm sorry. I didn't realized they was an audience" she told him quite frankly and scooted away from their dirty stares.
"I wouldn't blame them too much though. You are incredibly beautiful and that makes it hard to look away from you"
Beth's cheek turned a shade of red at his word. No one had complimented her body just by looking at her before and he seemed to be handing it out to her pretty easily.
"Thank you"
He answered with a careless shrug and pulled out a card from his pocket and handed it to her. "That's my card. Call me and we can hang out and get to know ourselves more"
She took it between her fingers and scanned it over. It's says, Asher Romano Vega. He is an artist.
"You are an artist?"
"Yeah, you got that right" he gave her a wink and she couldn't help but blush sheepishly.
"Okay Asher. I will give you that call because I love art and will also like to hear all about it"
"Alright, um, what's your name?"
"My name is Elizabeth but you can call me Beth" she said simply and he acknowledged her name with a single nod.
"Beautiful name Beth. Just give me a call over the weekend and we can hang out and talk about what kind of art you like and I will tell you the ones am into. Promise you gonna love it"
"Alright cool"
By the time she got home that night, it was already dark into the night. Peeling off her damp clothes, she slipped into the shower to wash off then make dinner for herself. Her apartment was extremely small, housing only some household essentials.
The thought of Asher kept making its way into her mind every now and then even as she poured her last bit of orange juice into a glass and sat down to eat her well cooked pasta.
He was indeed handsome. His brown hazel eyes did reminded her of her mother's eyes. For someone who have never being in a relationship before, she found the thought of that stranger very endearing to her. In fact, the only thing stopping her from dialing his number at that moment is her moral upbringing.
She might look desperate and cheap if she did. But then again, he'd said she could call him but still, calling him at that odd hour and so late in the night would only scream desperation and she is not about to sell herself off that cheap.
She would definitely wait and call him by weekend. She thought with a sigh as she finished her dinner and moved into the tiny space she calls her kitchen to wash off her plate before going to bed. She still has tomorrow to look forward to.
**
The next morning came rather early as one minute, she found herself slipping under the covers and the next getting awaken with the ringing of her alarm.
With a loud yawn and half body stretch, she struggled out of bed and began to get ready for another job interview.
Beth brushed off the extra tangles in her hair once she was done drying out her semi damp hair once she stepped out of the shower. She pulled it into a neat bun afterwards before grabbing a yellow button up shirt that she paired with a black skirt before slipping into an equally black blazer suit.
She wanted to appear just as modest for the job interview without giving her interviewer the possible idea of being a slut.
Her phone chimed from across the bed indicating a new message and she quickly made to retrieve it. It was a last minute notification from the job agency.
Her brow furrowed slightly as she read through the new message before glancing at the time. Beth realized she has only but another thirty minute more to make it to her appointment before she is rescheduled for another week and that would mean having to go through the trouble of paying the job agency for yet another slot.
Placing the phone right back on the bed, she adjusted the hem of her blazer before grabbing her house keys and the brown envelope containing her document. She quickly slip out the door with her fingers crossed while praying so damn hard not to run into her landlord on her way down.
Apparently, she was owing a month rent and was yet to pay up as promised. Maybe she might get really lucky this time and secure a position in the company she was going to interview for. She truly hopes she would.
Beth began to hurry down the pavement, bag in hand and without paying attention to anything else. Not even to the strange man trailing her from behind. The heel of her best work shoes broke with an abrupt snap, sending her onto the floor of the road but instead of the floor, she found herself suspended mid way by two large hold across her mid rib.
She gulped nervously, her heart racing a mile within her chest at the near accident. Still wrapped up in her saviour's arms, Beth looked up to behold the face that has saved her from kissing the floor so early in the morning.
A quiet gasp escaped her slightly parted lips when her emerald green eyes beheld the brown hazel ones staring down at her and immediately relaxed with a sigh. It was only Asher after all. The same guy she had met the previous day at the stand post.
She arched a slight brow at him, "what are you doing here Asher, did you follow me home last night?"
He gave a careless shrug but made no move to answer her question.
Beth realized shortly afterwards, having him so close kind of made her super small and short as compared to the man holding on to her. On a second thought, she couldn't help but think, there was something strange about his aura that morning. Even though they have met before, everything about him felt just as strange.
"Thanks for helping me Asher but you might want to let go now" She said with a chuckle and a little out of breath but he didn't release his hold on her, instead, his brow furrowed slightly as he continued to stare at her.
"I'm afraid you and me are going to have to take a little walk down the ally" He said in a voice that sounded more like a growl.
Beth opened her mouth to question him but no word made it out as She only swallowed hard. A cold chill starting to run down her spine at Asher's sudden behavior.
"I would have loved to but I'm in a bit of hurry and can't right now. So how about we take that walk around weekend instead"
Beth said, hoping it will be enough to let go so she can make a run for it but his grip only tightened a little more.
"I do insist we take that walk right now" He sneered at her through gritted teeth. When her eyes met his again?,this time, it wasn't the brown hazel beauty she saw the first time as his pupil quickly bled over, his once white set of teeth now sharp canines as he bared them at her in a snarl, naked rage filling his now demon looking face.
Beth who was taken by the sight before her only stared back at Asher's transformation in shock. Snapping out of her shock mood after a while, she opened her mouth to let out a scream but he quickly grab her by the neck with his claw-like fingers digging painfully into her neck.
She began to struggle and kick against him, totally unable to breathe as panic rose up to her chest. It was still 8am in the morning and the street were just as crowded with people hurrying about their duty but no one seem to notice she was under attack from that demon from hell.
Is it that, they can't see her or they just didn't care enough to want to help her. But the way they went on their way without sparing a glance at her direction. It's obvious, they can't see what's happening. Finally dawning on her that's it's all up to her to save herself.
Beth open her mouth to let out a scream but he pulled her closer, her feet almost came off the ground.
"Scream all you want but I can assure you, no one would hear you so you might as well save your energy for everything that await you"
Everything happened so fast that Beth found herself flying through the air as she was knocked clear across the concrete floor. The trip took no time at all as her back immediately connected with one of the trash can in the ally, knocking out the remaining air out of her lungs.
Still struggling to catch her breath and probably adjust to the pain ripping through her back, Beth found herself getting picked off the ground like a weightless piece of paper and place not too gently across his shoulders before he turned and began to walk towards a deserted side ally and further towards a parked black SUV car.
**
Beth thought raced with all the possible means of escape as she realized that she was being abducted and even worst by some harmless guy turned demon.
The pain in her back and lower rib was increasing by the second. She has no doubt, a few had broken while she collided with the trash bin making her wonder if she would be able to make a run for it if she'd manage to escape his clutches.
"This isn't the hunter is it?" Another man who was seated inside the car at the driver's seat had asked the moment she was lowered into the back seat.
"No but this would do" Asher stated as his hateful glare continue to burn a hole through her teary eyes.
"Please, let me go" she begged as she struggled to reach for the door handle but realized what she could only term as the worst mistake of her life as he reached over and grabbed a handful of her hair and pulled her closer before sneering down at her trembling figure.
"Try to escape one more time and I won't hesitate to cut off those fingers of yours, understood?"
"Please, I don't know what this is about but I haven't done anything wrong. Please, just let me go. I won't breath a word of this to anyone, I promise" Beth desperately pleaded but his grip on her hair only tightened causing more tears to stream down her already blurred vision. The pain totally unbearable.
"You sit here acting all Innocent and pitiful but make no mistake. You can't fool or affect me with your tears because I have seen first hand what a Lincoln bloodline is capable of. You are going to die a slow painful death and no one is going to save you from me" Asher snarled at her before he send her crashing further into the seat but not before slicing his claws across her face.
Beth gritted her teeth, not willing to scream for fear of being dealt more blow before the vehicle began to move towards an unknown destination.
