"Dad, I cannot marry that girl!" Hudson retorted, "She will never be my Luna!"
The elder man looked at the son he raised better than this. Hudson dated Jaimilee for years and broke up with her six months ago. His father was disappointed when he heard the news as he was hoping that Jaimilee would have been his son's chosen mate.
Hudson Carter was twenty-six years old and despite his international travelling, he still has not found his mate. The council is growing weary and a Luna is needed for the pack. He is already the Alpha but mate less.
Hudson, understood where his dad was coming from but the fact remains that he simply could not agree with the decision to forsake his mate. He felt that timing is everything and believed that eventually she would show up in his life. The council was not being as patient as he was and so the pressure was on his father to convince the current Alpha of what was in the best interest of the pack.
"Son, you should have found your mate at eighteen and the council has been lenient enough to give you eight additional years to find her." He sighed and in five strides went to lay his hand on his son's shoulder. "We have to think of the other possibilities of why she hasn't found you yet, like....."
"Don't say it, Dad" Hudson was having that thought to cross his mind. Thinking that his mate could be dead was out of the question.
His dad made it to the door and placed his hand on the knob to open it. "I'm sorry son, but in six months there will be a meeting concerning this. Your brother has found his mate and they are thinking of replacing you with him if you don't choose your Luna."
Hudson looked at the crushed picture in his hand. The girl was an Alpha's daughter from one of the alliance packs. Her name was Giselle Harris with a cute and petite body. No one would understand his problem and that he couldn't chose a Luna because he wasn't sure that she would want to stay with him after learning his secret.
Even doubts of his own mate clouded his mind. He could have had tons of women but that was not his nature. His wolf was strong and mighty due to the true alpha blood that flowed in his blood, but this was something that his brother, Charles did not display.
He was stressed out but could not show his frustrations to those around him. He has been lonely for years and the only reason he stayed with Jaimilee for that long was because having her around kept his secret safe. He made the ultimate decision to free her so that she would not reject her mate when he came along.
My Gamma, Chad, mind-linked me that his mate had arrived with a guest and that he would help them settle in. I knew he would want the time to fool around with her so I gave him the rest of the day off. I got in my car and went to welcome our guest.
Chad, the lucky bastard! I sent in to the MoonBlood Pack to deliver the updated alliance contact, when he stumbled upon meeting his mate, Joana.
Due to urgent pack affairs, he had to return without her, and in order for her to renounce the previous pack and join mine, the necessary paperwork needed to be filled. He showed me the power of the mate bond by moping around as if he was a man in mourning. I saw him change from a fuckboy, into a whipping fellow almost overnight.
My Beta, Dwayne, on the other hand, continued to be single and to whore around as normal. He never refuses a woman. I caution him repeatedly that a lady might use his ease of getting between their legs to draw him into a trap. He dismisses my advice by asserting that he is capable of handling himself.
Tick, tick, tick, tock. Time is passing quickly and I am stressed. When the truth comes out, I consider how disappointed my parents will be.
I am very envious of all the mated wolves, and now I have to meet Chad's mate and celebrate their union.
For years, my wolf Regis, had been agonizing. Can my mate save us? We are hopeful and wishful, and praying that she might be the moon goddess' answer to our prayers.
'I believe in our mate.' Regis murmurs. 'Don't underestimate the power of the mate bond when we mark her and make her ours.'
"You better be right, Regis." I was far from enjoying the ride to the pack house.
'We will be happy when she comes.'
"But where the hell is she?" I lost my cool and snapped
'It's not her fault. Don't be such a gorilla with our mate!' He growls at me.
He is talking as though she's already here. Man, I wish she was. I pulled into my packing space. I ran my hand through me hair, with no care for appearances. It's not my job to impress anyone, so I wasn't going to give my look a second thought.
Family is everything. My dad taught me that. My Beta and Gamma are my best friends. We have had some exciting adventurous times before the duty fell on our shoulders to manage the pack.
Charles was privileged with such freedom. He carefree nature was dangerous at times. He uses the influence of his position to challenge the rules of law and order. Just last year, the council demanded for me to rein him in. Despite the brotherly talks I've been giving him, he doesn't even want to be the Alpha.
'One day at a time, Hudson. That's what we have to do.' My wolf comforts my trouble heart.
My attitude was not the best, and I need to chill. So I sat in the driver's seat, inhaled deeply, then exhaled. I thought about my pack and the love I carried for them. I will do what I have to do until it's time to leave.
The clock was ticking and I knew I might have to give up his Alpha title soon.
I don't know why I decided to follow my cousin, Joana, to the Firebricks Pack. At a party last week as they celebrated their graduation from college, we discovered that the Gamma of this pack was Joana's mate. She asked me to string along and keep her company here while she got used to the new pack members because this would be her new home.
Joana and I were cousins on my mother's side, and we acted more like sisters or best friends. It was sad to have her torn away from me, but what could be done? This was how things worked in the werewolf world. The female was the one expected to join her mate's pack, unless the male preferred to leave his pack for hers. Paperwork had to be done between Alphas and approved before the move could be done.
My cousin and I have great genes. We both have black hair but her eyes are chocolate brown eyes while mine are icy blue which sometimes takes on a deeper shade. We are two hot and curvaceous 5'8 tall women who could pass as sisters. I have always been confident in my sexuality.
I looked out the window as the car came to a large resort-looking house. Joana was on nerves but a wide smile came on her face when the Gamma stood in front to greet her upon arrival. I wasn't too hooked up on this mate thing. I was already twenty-two years old and hadn't found mine as well. I was from a prominent family of warriors and well-trained, but I told myself that I could live a good life being alone.
I had plans to travel a little and then find a job. I didn't care much for kids or family, but maybe one day a mate could change my mind. Otherwise, I wasn't looking for him. I enjoyed the freedom of not having someone to report to like a child. Dating men was fun because of the contrasting personalities that I have encountered. Even the terrible dates made me laugh when I remember how dumb and stupid some of them turned out to be.
I did not sleep with all of them, but I like that they took me to different places across the globe. My rule is not to date a guy past six months, because falling in love came with complications. I have wondered if when I meet my mate, he would make me so weak that I fall hopelessly in love like other mates that I have observed.
Joana and Chad were lucky to have each other. My mom and dad are mated to different people. They fell in love and gave birth to me. It was days before the wedding that Dad found his mate and cancelled the wedding. Mom was so heart broken that she almost had a mental breakdown. So, she went on her honeymoon alone in Dubai. There she met Jack Napier, my stepdad and her mate.
This was the basis for my not falling in love ever decision. I used to visit my dad until he had his second child with Selina. His new family barely gave room for his outside teen. So, I stuck to my mom and stepdad. By now, I should have found my mate and each passing day dwindled my hope. So I will enjoy my life, my way and I will love it this way.
We finally arrived and Joana jumped out of the car, impatient to run into her mate's arms. I got out of the car and rolled my eyes on seeing them embracing and making out. I guess one never knows the impact of the mate bond until you find your mate.
"Ahem," I cleared my throat to remind these two that I was here too. They broke a part and giggled.
"I am sorry, Phoebe." Chad said, "Welcome to our pack. This is the pack house and where you will both be staying. Come with me to your rooms."
He led the way hand in hand with Joana. They constantly gazed at each other giggling and whispering. I rolled my eyes as my werewolf hearing picked up on the conversation. I am not upset with their flirtations. I would have preferred not to be entertained by it, though.
"I'm dying to go to our room," Joana told him and brushed her lips on his ear. "I have a nice surprise for you tonight."
"Baby, you got me so damn hard," He moved her right hand to the front of his pants. It didn't need a rocket scientist to figure out where she was touching. "You are going to be so sore when I am done with you."
The pack house was huge and seemed like it could host more than a hundred people. They weren't kidding when they said that this was the richest and strongest pack in America. Diverting my thoughts was the best way to drench out the loving couple in front of me.
Of course, by the time he showed me my room for guests on the third floor, he quickly turned and ran off to his room on the fourth floor with my cousin. Mesmerized were they, so much that I felt like a third wheel, but I was good at making friends. Tomorrow I will give myself a tour and flirt with a few guys.
I typed a message to mom, letting her know that I had arrived safely. Sitting on the large king-sized bed, I looked around the large and opulent surroundings. This was bigger than my bedroom at home. I took up my phone and sent Joana a message that she would get once they finished doing the deed upstairs.
-Phoebe: 'I know that you are busy with your mate, so I am taking a nap. Wake me up for dinner.'
My wolf has been stirring with discomfort ever since we arrived. She seemed agitated and restless for no apparent reason. I shrugged it away until she was ready to talk to me about it. She must be disturbed about something.
I closed my eyes and drifted off easily while wondering what the Alpha was like and if he would join us for dinner. I heard that he was single now. Alpha's were good in the sack, and there's no harm in playing while I am here, as long as I remain careful. Contraceptives, condoms and a dildo were packed in my luggage. I wasn't a virgin but it's been a while since I had a man between the sheets with me.
HUDSON'S POV****
I got back to the pack house at 7:15 and my wolf was acting strange. I could hear chattering as I parked the car in the underground garage. I took the elevator from there and went straight to my room to hold a shower.
I held another potion in my hands as I allowed the water droplets to hit the floor from my body. How many of these have I tried and the problem still remains unsolved? This was a different strain that his witch friend Silva had prepared. The side effect to this one would be an increase in his beast rage but he was determined to try it.
Quickly I uttered a soft prayer and gulped the contents down. "Yuck" It taste like dirty water and smelt like ten days cabbage water which tainted my breath. I brushed my teeth about five times and even after using the mouthwash, I could still smell the stench on my breath. Guess, I will keep everyone at a distance tonight.
So I got dressed to head to the kitchen for a cool drink. As I made it to the stairs, a nice scent hit him. "Could it be?" I asked my wolf, Regis, as he carefully trailed the scent to the kitchen. His wolf rolled over with its tail wagging as he uttered the word "mate."
"I've finally found her." Regis gleefully said.
I hesitated as I wondered what I would say to her. What if meeting her changed nothing? I doubled my fist in anger at the thought of having to reject my own mate. I would have her swear to me to keep this bond a secret. No one could know that I have found my mate. It would be the best thing for her to move on and find someone else who could make her happy.
I stood and waited for her to turn to face me. She slowly turned her face to the doorway and I stared into those emerald eyes. For a minute I was lost in her eyes as if she was taking my soul out of me. I snapped out of it when my Gamma Chad exclaimed, "Would you care to join us, Alpha?"
I shook my head, stormed out of the kitchen and went for a run. A grown man shouldn't act like this but I felt a nightmare was waiting to happen. She was beautiful and her smile was heavenly but the reality remained that she would not want me if she found out my greatest flaw. I would have to tell her but not before I got another potion to erase her memories of me after the rejection. I speed off to see Silva again.
"Back so soon?" The pink haired witch inquired from the wolf man in the doorway.
"I found my mate!" I blurted out to her, getting directly to the point.
She turned around being genuinely happy for me. "Isn't that good? You should try to complete the mating process immediately" She instructed as she poured herself some tea.
"I will but I need something from you in case she doesn't accept me." Fingers crossed that Silva would oblige and help with my unusual request.
Her eyebrows furrowed in curiosity, "What is the potion for this time?" I guess that I have bothered her too much with the frequency of my visits.
"One that wipes her memory of me." I knew my friend did not approve of this but it had to be done to protect me. I pointed looked at her to read her body language.
"You are being selfish and I would not do it if you were not my friend." She was angry this time. "Come with me to my herb room."
I followed her and sat to the window where I could stare at the moon. I wanted my mate and needed her. It would be so easy if my life was simple and I didn't have this one flaw. The sound of my mumbling witch distracted my thoughts and I observed her as she did the mixture of herbs and other things that I would not know about.
"I keep warning you that potions do come with side-effects but does he listen to me." She grumbled further and making mocking expressions, "No, no he does not!" She jammed the ceramic herb grinder into the masher bowl as she continued to vent. "I'm only a witch, but what the hell do I know?"
A chuckle escaped me, her head cocked to the right with a deadly glare. She pointed the grinder at me but said nothing.
"I promise only to use it if extremely necessary." I appealed to her soft side.
"It should be her choice. You are nothing but a villain if you force her to drink a potion like this." There she goes with her chidings. She sighed, and stopped what she was doing to look at me. "I am checking with others witches to see if we can find that person for you."
"Thank you. I know you will try your best." I wished that I could hug her but I can't have her scent on me. My mate shouldn't have to smell another woman on me when we just met. "Just let me know what you want for Christmas and I will give it to you."
"A Lamborghini would be nice," Silva quickly said with the brightest smile. "Make it in the color of my hair, pink." She no longer stabbed the bowl, her mood has lifted as she laughed at what I said.
Yeah, that put me in trouble, but I will see what I could do for her. She added simultaneously a clear bubbling liquid along with a green slimy one that caused smoke to ooze from the masher bowl.
'That looks disgusting,' Regis took the words out of my mouth.
"Will this wipe her memory permanently?" A part of me didn't want to be forgotten by her.
"It should last for six years, and then little fragments will come back to her. Mostly through her dreams, but if she saw you again after those six years, all of her memories will return." She took a small glass vial from her cupboard and poured the contents into it. "So it means that you must never appear before her."
My treacherous heart did not want me to use the potion. Despite that I took it into my right hand with my mind wavering. "I understand."
"Witches don't like to go against the moon goddess. There are consequences, so I do hope that you change your mind."
I nodded and left with a heavy heart. I was becoming a nervous wreck but had to face the facts of life. This had to be done, sooner than later, before we both fell in love.
