Chapter 1

Booted feet walked down the stairs, creating awareness as Joselyn stood up, squared her shoulders and looked at her father in the eyes.

"Are you ready Josie?" he said in his usual playful tone, holding her elbow as they both walked out. "I've never been more ready dad, it'll finally go down and we'll be free,free of that__"

"You don't need to mention his name. He'll be forgotten in no time and we'll finally have the peace we desire." Mr Green said, assisting her into the car. They arrived at the court, Joselyn's eyes taking in the environment. Soon, Carlson would be led into this place and she'd be seeing him for the last time.

"What are you thinking about? You'll be free today and he'll face his punishment,you should be happy." Mr Jackson said, leading her into the huge building.

"I know dad, it's just__"

"Do not think of anything,just the way we forgot about your mom as soon as she left, that's how we're gonna forget about him, I'll help you." She nodded, forcing a smile.

They walked into the courtroom awaiting the arrival of the judge and Carlson.

"They're here." She heard a lady say as she turned to see Carlson walking into the room with his brother Carlos. "Dad, they're here."

"Do not look at them, they're not worth our time and glance."

"Court arise." They all arose and Jocelyn knew Carlson's eyes were pinned on her,she could feel the scrutiny and it didn't sit well with her.

"Dad I'm nervous."

"Why? He cannot touch you anymore, he won't do that to you again,I'm right here."

"What do you think he's telling her?" Carlos asked as Carlson shrugged.

"Probably cooking up another lie to tell the judge, lying about me abusing her sexually and mentally wasn't enough,they had my signature signed on a fraudulent document and now it's being used against me."

"Today is the final verdict and it'll__"

"Carlos,no matter what happens today, if i get convicted and taken to jail you must promise me one thing."

"Stop talking negatively, you'll be free, mother is sick and she might get worse if she hears about this, how long are we gonna hide this from her?"

"You'll hide it for as long as you can,tell her i went out of the country for business or something but Carlos,she must not find out.

"After previewing the evidences and the complaint from the plaintiff, I hereby sentence Mr Carlson Graham to ten years imprisonment with hard labor."

Joselyn buried her face in her palms, her eyes tearing up.

"You finally got what you deserve, now my daughter can live a free life." Mr Green said, looking scornfully at Carlson.

"You either leave peacefully or i make you__"

"Carlos, that's enough go home and meet mom."

"I really hope you rot in there." Joselyn said,her eyes not meeting Carlson's eyes.

"Is it difficult to look into my eyes? Is it?" He asked, shaking his head.

"I hope we meet one day and on that day,i won't be nice.......

8 years later....

"Bravo! You were so good out there." Mr Green said, kissing Joselyn on her cheek as she smiled and walked towards some group of men.

"Hello Mr Henson, i see you didn't come along with Sara." She said, looking behind the man.

"Oh yeah," he replied, moving closer to her. "You know i wouldn't." He whispered, pulling her closely.

"Not here Mr Henson, I'll see you around." She walked away, swaying her hips.

"Why's he late? He should be here already and__"

"Sorry I'm late." Jefferson Landon,the business associate they've all been waiting for said over the mic,his jet black hair positioned in a cool style and his tuxedo cost more than everyone's clothes put together.

"Dad can you see him screaming wealth?" Joselyn asked, biting her lips.

"Yeah of course,we must make sure we become good partners with him,we cannot lose this opportunity.

"Yes dad."

"I'm new in town but my personal assistant, Kendall has filled me in on the events and all that i need to know. Of course I'm gonna partner with everyone here but I've picked my favorite already." He said as Joselyn placed her drink on the tray of a waitress passing by.

The hall went silent.

"Miss Green? Can you come forward, join me right here." The hall went into an uproar of applause as she made her way towards the stage.

"I've seen her works and she's really impressive and very talented,i must commend her father." Everyone laughed.

"Thank you so much Mr__"

"Just call me Jeff, you look beautiful."

"Thanks Jeff and you look good too,we should meet up and discuss, what do you think?" She asked as he offered her a glass of tequila.

"Oh that'd be nice,my assistant will make a reservation for us and we can get to know each other."

"Excuse me me Mr Landon? Your ride is here." Kendall said,she was dressed like a man in an all black overall with a dark shade.

"Oh i really hate to cut our time together short, we'll talk properly when next we see."

"Dad!" Joselyn screamed softly, dancing on her toes as several men surrounded them.

"Congratulations Mr Green, she's a gem, you should be happy about having her as a daughter."

"Of course i am, she took after me."

"I hate her guts." Jeff said, turning to look at Kendall as she sat quietly next to him, her face was a shade of red and he knew she was angry.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

" It's nothing really, how did you feel meeting her again for the first time after eight years?" She asked and he shrugged.

"Hatred, nothing else but hatred, she'll wish she never came in contact with me, I'll make her life a living hell."

"When should your next meeting with her be?"

"Tomorrow,i want them to think I'm desperate,to think i want to be partners with them for real then I'll slowly take back what's mine and serve them their dishes."

Just then, a call came in and Kendall picked up.

"What do you think you're doing?" Kendall yelled into the phone, shaking her head.

"I have to be somewhere, I'll be back by morning." She said, stepping out of the car.

"Make the first attack." He said into his phone and smiled.

"By morning, I'll be the hero." He replied as he smirked.

Chapter 2

"Good morning dad." Josie said, walking into the kitchen as the maids scurried round to place the dining table in order. "Have you seen the news? I'm all over."

"Yeah, that's how it should be, you're making me proud."

"This is just the beginning dad, all our worries will be slowly forgotten and we will be happy." She replied, kissing his cheek.

"Ma'am, you have a call."

"Oh thanks Marie, I'll take this call dad."

As she walked away, Mr Green's phone rang. "Yeah why are you calling so early in the morning? I'm__ what?" He screamed and stood on his feet, losing his balance as he fell to the ground.

"Oh really? He's really desperate huh, tell him I'll be there." She said, smiling and biting her lip. Just then,Marie rushed out.

"Your father lost consciousness."

"What?" She followed Marie swiftly into the house as she screamed. Soon three guards rushed in, lifting Mr Green as they rushed into the car and drove off to the hospital.

"Dad, dad, wake up. Not now, do not die on me."

"He's a survivor,he won't die." Josh her father's right hand man said, hugging her.

"He was fine, there was nothing wrong with him, he was perfectly okay when i left to take the call so what happened?"

"Check his phone,the nurse checked him blood pressure last night and it was good."

"So what happened?" She took the phone from Josh as her eyes went saucer round.

"He received a call from the cruise ship but why?"

"You won't find out if you do not ask." Josh replied, taking the phone from her.

"I'll call and get back to you, follow them in." Mr Green was placed on a stretcher and wheeled in with Josie following behind and tears rolling down her cheeks.

"Doctor what's wrong?"

"Can you come with me to my office?" He asked and she nodded, walking with him to his office.

"Did he get any troubling news or__"

"He got a call from one of our cruise ship and we found him in this state after that." The doctor shook his head.

"He had a heart failure and if this continues,he'd have to go for an operation." She gasped, palming her mouth.

"Please do everything you can to curb this heart failure, I'll try my best to take good care of him, i will.

"That's good Miss Green,if you'd excuse me i have a patient to attend to." She followed him out and met Josh at the hallway sitting.

"What was the call about?"

"One of the cruise ship is missing,the cargo ship is missing too, people's goods are inside." She gasped, almost losing her balance as she held the wall for support.

"When did this happen? How?" She screamed, holding his shirt.

"You're responsible for the cargo and cruise ship so what happened? Tell me?" She screamed again.

"Can you please stop the noise, we have patients around." A passing nurse said, walking away.

"I just got into town this morning, i wasn't around if you can remember." He said calmly as she sighed and swallowed hard.

"Who did this?"

"Probably angry and jealous people who got angry because of your success and achievement from last night."

"Find leads, make sure you find a way to know who did this, they must pay."

"Morning boss." Kendall greeted, walking into the house with another version of herself walking in. Jeff raised his head, looking skeptically at both women.

"Morning Kendall and__"

"Kayla, Kayla Amber." The lady said, stretching her hand to shake Jeff.

"I'm sorry boss, she'll just be here for a few days and she'll leave, she's on holidays and__"

"It's alright Kendall,i trust you." He said, turning back to face his laptop as both ladies walked into the house.

"What happened?" He said into the phone.

" She's devastated,he's in the hospital. He collapsed after getting the news."

"Good. I'll let you know what to do next." He smiled, dialing Josie's number.

"Hey."

"Hi, can we talk later?" She asked.

"No, what's wrong? You don't sound okay." He said into the phone, standing on his feet.

"My father lost consciousness this morning we're at the hospital."

"What! I'll be right there, just stay calm."

"Are you heading somewhere?" Kendall asked, strapping her knife to her boot.

"Yeah and you're not__"

"I'm coming along, I have every right to be there." She whispered as their eyes locked.

"Fine but don't do anything stupid." He warned.

"You can count on that."

"Are you going out? Can i come along?" Kayla asked, walking down the stairs as Kendall walked over to meet her.

"You can't now go up there and plant your butt on the chair,read something."

"Why are you acting like__"

"Do not test my patience Kayla,go back up." Kayla turned on her heels, shaking her head as she walked back up the stairs.

"She's not a baby you know."

"And she's my little sister." Kendall replied as they marched out of the house.

"Why then are you treating her like a baby? I mean she's__"

"Can we not talk about Kayla? She's just passing the time here she'll be out in no time and you'll forget you ever met her."

"All the more I'm curious, Is there something i don't know?" He asked.

" Of course not, you're the last person i keep secrets from, we're in this together, remember?"

"Yeah i know."

"You caused his heart failure." She said, smiling.

"Just like my mother died after thinking i lost my life in the prison in the fire accident, just like that, he'll lose his health slowly and die finally.

"I cannot wait to see the anguish on their faces when the truth finally comes to light.

"They'll pay for their sins before i finally reveal who i am trust me it won't be a nice day."

Chapter 3

"You should get some rest, I'll stay right here with him and once he wakes up, I'll let you know."

"I don't feel like going home, I'll wait right here." She replied, kneading her father's hand and kissing it. Her cellphone distracted her with it's blaring tune,she rolled her eyes and swiped the green icon.

"Yeah Milan,what do you want?" She asked, moving quietly out of the room.

"You promised to come over." He said and she felt irritated and angry. How had she gotten herself entangled with Milan? She asked herself, sighing loudly.

"My father is in the hospital,I can't come over right now, bye." She ended the call and sighed. She met Milan at a club and since then the guy has been calling, texting and wanting to visit but she didn't want her father to know she went clubbing.

That night,she's lied about going to work at the office late into the night.

"Josie." She stopped,her heart in her mouth. Only two people ever called her Josie.

Her father and Carlson but Carlson died six years ago in prison in a fire accident, they'd buried him and she knew where his tombstone was. She turned and saw Jeff smiling at her.

"What did you call me?" She asked, walking over to meet him as Kendall moved away.

"Josie__ is something wrong with that?" He asked.

"Uhm no__ yeah it reminded me of someone." She replied, shaking her head.

"Wo!! Hold on,a good or bad memory?" He asked, holding her hand. "A bad one actually,one is rather not talk about." She replied and led him into the room. Kendall fisted her palm, shaking her head.

"You barely know what awaits you." She whispered and sat down, waiting for them to come out.

"Dad? Look who came visiting, it's Jeff, Jeff Landon if you'd just open your eyes, you'll see it's really him." She said,her voice breaking.

"What's the diagnosis?" Jeff asked.

"If this goes on,he might get an operation and it's not guaranteed he'd live long enough for__"

"Quit talking negatively, he'll bounce back alive, strong and healthy.

"Thanks Jeff, you're a nice person."

"It's nothing, I need to get to the office, are you still up for the date? I could cancel an__"

"I'm up for it. Josh will be right here with him." She hurriedly said and he smiled.

"Are we leaving already?" Kendall asked the minute he walked out of the room.

"Yeah we are, he's dying."

"As it should be." Kendall said, walking behind him.

"Sometimes i feel the hatred you have for him is much worse than what i feel for them,both of them." She scoffed, turned the ignition on and turned to look at him.

"Try picturing your mother's crying face while being pregnant and a mad man hitting her till she almost lost the baby."

"It's horrible yet i was charged to court because of doing the same thing to his daughter which i never did. In our six months of being married, I never laid my hands on her,hell i thought we were in love."

"Are we reminiscing on old times just to feel the hatred flow through our veins again?" Kendall asked.

"It'll serve as a reminder. Tomorrow marks the seventh year since the fire accident,seventh year since everyone confirmed i was dead."

"Yeah,do you think she ever visited your fake tomb?" She asked.

"She never visited it, I doubt she'd visit now. Carlos never left my tombstone without a flower on it, I'll go over the the graveyard to see him, it's been years."

"What are you gonna tell him?"

"Nothing just a casual lie about visiting a family relative who was buried there, he'll buy my story."

"You really miss him, don't you?"

"I do, don't you miss your mother?" He asked.

"I do but she's no more, she's gone."

"Enough of all these, we'll just wait for the old man to open his eyes and then we'll push through with our next plan."

"Yeah. Let's go over to the company, I have a meeting to attend."

"You're meeting with the judge, ain't you?" Kendall asked as he nodded before chuckling.

"Mr Green bought him on that day he made him run a false judgement and so this judge is gonna work for me,him and all his assistants, they'll work for me while i gather enough evidences to clear Carlson Graham's name. He'll work hard but will never know what hit him."

"Morning sir" the receptionist greeted as he walked in. It was the first time they were seeing him in person. The assistant manager had been the one managing and overseeing everything before now.

"I need to meet with the workers before the meeting with the judge.

"Yeah that'll be a great idea, they don't know you." Mr Fred the assistant manager said, shaking his hand.

"It's nice to finally meet you, it's an honor."

"The honor lies in your work and how far you've carried the company for five years, I'd love to see a detailed report and i don't need a secretary."

"Bu_"

"No buts Mr Fred,no buts. We don't need no secretary my assistant can handle everything." Fred nodded and walked out of the office.

"I guess it's better that way,we don't want anyone knowing our secrets any time soon."

"Yeah, besides it'll buy us some time if we're discrete about everything and anything we do."

"Try getting used to the system around here, know everyone and what they're capable of and get back to me."

"After the meeting, I'll get down to that."

After the meeting with the employees, Kendall and Jeff made their way to the extravagant office at the far right on the last floor.

"I bet he'll be so desperate to work for such a huge firm." Kendall said,her heel clicking on the tiled floor.

"Yeah hungry wolves ready to devour whoever they see as a prey."

"Let's go in and__"

"Kendall__" he called, holding her hands.

"You will not say a word in there, you'll keep quiet, it's not time to have your revenge you'll have it one day,but not today." She swallowed hard, nodding her head.

"I get it, I totally get it but it hurts Carl,it hurts."

"Do not call me Carl, I don't want any suspicion from anyone."

"Right,I'm sorry i should have gotten a hold on myself."

"Let's go in and lead that man to his doom just like he did to your father and to me, we'll make him pay the price dearly
