"You're three weeks pregnant," the doctor said to Ava.
A mix of emotions welled up inside her.
I... I am pregnant," she stuttered.
The female doctor nodded. "Yes, miss Ava. You're pregnant."
This had to be the best news ever. Excitedly, she dashed out of the hospital into the night. She got home and quickly got herself dressed. There was no better time to tell Ryan about this than tonight.
A couple of moments later, her eyes were almost pressed against the glass of the cab's window. The heart of the twenty-five years old damsel was filled with excitement. It was only a matter of minutes before she would break the sweetest news to her boyfriend, Ryan, who happened to be the richest bachelor in the country and eldest son of Mr Blake. His family was the richest in the entire country, with the most flourishing businesses in their name.
However, there was just one organization that no one marched. Avalon corp... they were the most powerful business enterprise. But the family wasn't based in the country.
It was without a doubt a joyous feeling to be the woman of someone of that status, despite being an orphan.
"Oh my goodness!" She gasped in wonder as she caught sight of the resort.
The Paradise resorts and suites were owned solely by Ryan's family. And yes, it was out of reach for many people. It was a place where only the richest entities from around the world would converge.
"You must be powerful, ma'am," the cab driver said to her.
Her eyes fell on the gold-plated invitation card in her hands. That was her ticket to enter into the resort for tonight's big event. And her man had sent it to her directly. Without a formal invitation, no one was allowed to get in.
"Maybe," she replied with a knowing smile.
The cab drove past the main gate and cycled through the driveway before coming to a stop. Ava paid him and stepped into the night's embrace. Despite being of a low status, she did well to dress the best she could. A red gown and red heels with earrings and a necklace. Ryan had gotten them for her the last time he took her shopping. That was the first and last time she let him buy things for her. Out of fear of being accused of mooching off Ryan, she preferred to stay with the little she earned.
She was walking freely towards the entrance of the conference hall when she was interrupted.
"Hey, orphan!" The familiar voice called out to her arrogantly.
Her feet came to a stop in that instant. She recognized the voice and turned. Molly, Ryan's younger sister who despised Ava, walked up to her.
"I have a name, Molly," Ava pointed out. "You don't have to be mean all the time."
Molly chuckled in a vile manner. "This event is not a place for lowlives like you, bitch. How the heck did you get in here?"
Ava stroked her cheek while trying to keep her anger low. "I was invited. And here is my card."
She waved the luxurious card at her. But then, Molly bursted out into laughter.
"You really do think my brother sent that to you." Molly chuckled. "You are too lousy. Stop mooching off my family."
Ava was confused. Of course, Ryan invited her to celebrate his announcement as heir to the family's business.
"Your brother loves me, Molly," Ava replied. "I am not mooching off your family. What I feel for your brother is genuine."
When Molly said nothing to her but just scowled, she turned and headed to the entrance.
The two security dudes crossed their hands. She flashed her card and was allowed to pass.
Ava threw a last glance at Molly. There was a smile on her face that Ava could not seem to understand.
"Hmm," she exhaled deeply and walked in.
The interior of the hall was filled with mind-blowing ecstasy. Chandeliers hung from top and threw different colors at the place. The red curtains and marble floor even increased the ambience of the room. However, through the mixture of wealthy looking men and women, Ava's eyes were searching for Ryan.
Ryan stood grinning from ear to ear with a glass of wine in his hand . With him was Kristie, daughter of a major business owner. His happiness was suddenly cut short when his eyes saw Ava standing like a lost soul. Oh well, she was lost.
"Damn it!" He muttered suddenly.
"Is there a problem?" Kristie asked him softly.
He smiled partly and patted her shoulder. "Not at all," he replied. "Give me a second, please."
By now, Ava already saw him. She watched as he emptied his glass and dropped it on the table. Then, he walked to her gallantly in his tuxedo. Ava was expecting a hug from him. But it didn't come. Instead, he threw a confusing question at her.
"Ava, what are you doing here?" He asked suddenly with an uneasy look registered on his face.
Ava chuckled amidst the confusion registered in her head. "What...do you mean, Ryan? Of course, I came here for you."
Ryan cocked his head uncomfortably. "How did you get in? Not everyone is allowed to come."
A wave of disappointment blew across Ava's face. Why was Ryan being that way? He sent her the invitation card. But then, he was asking her a silly question.
"What do you mean, Ryan? You sent the invitation card to me, obviously. Hold on a second. Was it... not you? Then, who?"
Ryan sighed heavily, a scowl forming on his face.
"I have good news, baby," she said with a smile.
"You should walk away, Ava," he replied in a firm tone.
Just when she was about to throw the questions in her head, the voice of Mr Mr Blake boomed through the microphone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my son and heir to my business, Ryan Blake, to the podium."
The sound of applause filled the entire hall. Kristie walked to Ryan and locked her arm in his.
"Sweetheart, you should be on the podium right now."
Sweetheart.... Ava's heart was beginning to beat heavily. She definitely didn't hear her correctly.
"Ry..Ryan, what is...going on?" She stuttered.
Without a word to her, Ryan turned and walked away with Kristie. Ava stood in shock and frustration. She was battling with her reality.
Ryan mounted the podium and began to speak.
"I thank everyone who has come here tonight to celebrate with me. I'm grateful to all of you. As a matter of fact, the Blake Haven group of companies will only get bigger and bigger."
Applause went around the hall again.
With a broad grin, he continued, "One more thing. Tonight, I'd love to let you all know that my status as the richest bachelor will soon be vacant for another person."
Ava grinned. She suddenly forgot about the disappointment she felt not long ago. Ryan was finally going to announce their relationship. Not just that, but he was going to make their marital intention known.
While the people cheered, Ryan slipped out a diamond ring from his pocket and descended from the podium. To Ava's shock, he walked straight to Kristie and went down on one knee. Her heart was tearing apart. This wasn't happening. Ava had come with good news- she was pregnant for him.
With the microphone still attached, Ryan asked the question.
"Kristie, will you marry me?" His voice boomed through the speakers.
Kristie used both hands to cover her face. Then, in the most tender tone, she blurted out, "Yes, yes. I will marry you, Ryan."
Ava felt her world crumbling right before her own eyes. Tears formed around the corners of her eyes and rolled down. Her heart was pounding. She had come with good news. But then, her pregnancy might have been her worst mistake.
With a broken and shattered heart, the damsel found her way out of the hall. She walked to the corner and began to cry out her heart.
"Take this," Molly said and threw two dollar notes at her. "You will need it to take care of your wretched body."
Ava couldn't say a word. Her tears would not let her. As a matter of fact, Ryan held the answers to the questions in her head.
Molly chuckled and continued. "In case you're wondering, Ryan never sent you the invitation card. I did. I wanted a loser like you to see that my brother has finally come to his senses." She hissed. "Get out of here before you're thrown out."
She left Ava alone. The sound of chatters and media bustles distracted the sorrowful lady. Ava raised her head to see Ryan walking out of the hall with his newly engaged fiancé. From where she was, she could hear the media questions.
"Mr Ryan, there are rumors you've been in a relationship with someone else. Reports have that she's a lowlife and-"
Even before the reporter could be done, Ryan waved it off.
"Such a person does not exist in my life."
The response was like a bomb set in Ava's heart. What happened to her Ryan?

Later that night, Ava was outside Ryan's home. The mansion was fully lit and bore a load of memories. But everything seemed to have changed. The security wouldn't even let her through the gate.
A few minutes later, a Rolls-Royce approached and swerved right towards the gate. That was Ryan. Ava quickly jumped to her feet and blocked the flashy vehicle.
In the car, Kristie threw a cold glance at her fiance.
"Who the heck is this bitch?" She queried.
Ryan forced a smile. "I will handle this. Just give me a minute."
Ryan and Kristie knew themselves from childhood. As a matter of fact, the business relationship their parents had started even before they were born.
"Ryan!!" Ava's voice thundered. But it was just an inaudible movement of her lips to those in the car.
Ryan opened the door and stepped out. Then, he slowly shut it and walked to her.
"What are you doing here, Ava?" He asked her firmly.
"What is going on?" Ava asked. "Who's the lady? She's in your car, right?"
Ryan smiled. "You mean Kristie. She is the woman I will marry."
Hearing those words, her feet became unsteady. Tears were beginning to well up her throat again.
"Have... have you been using me?" She croaked out. "I love you, Ryan. You can't do this to me.":
Ryan smirked. "I don't love you. You see that woman in the car, that is the woman of my dreams, not an orphan who has nothing to offer me."
At this point, Ava's heart had been ruptured completely. Her hands slowly moved to her belly. She was pregnant by this man. How was she supposed to tell him now?
"From this moment, you are no longer allowed to come to this premises. It's over between us."
Ryan ordered the security to move her. They did. She stood like a lost sheep and watched with teary eyes as the Rolls-Royce rolled past the gate.

The next morning, Ryan sat in his swivel chair, attending to some documents when his friend, Erik, walked in.
"Hello, buddy," Erik said.
Ryan giggled as he saw him. "Erik, you're back from your trip."
Erik grinned and walked over to a couch at the extreme of the office. Then, sat down and rubbed his palms.
"I came in this morning and headed here immediately."
Ryan chuckled as he stood up and joined his friend. "You're back quite early. You said you were going to stay away for three months. It's merely two weeks and you are back already."
Erik grinned. "Oh well, I had to return for a crucial reason."
Ryan crossed his legs. "Is there a problem? What could have made you cut your trip off? By the way, do you need wine?"
Erik hissed. "I didn't come here for a drink. I know my way to a tavern."
Ryan sensed the uneasy look on Erik's face. "What is the problem, Erik?"
"You," Erik replied instantly. "I saw the news. You are engaged to Kristie. Why?"
Ryan heaved a sigh. "Can we not talk about this at the moment?"
"And why exactly is that?" Erik pressed on. "As far as I'm concerned, you love Ava. How could you have done that to her?"
Ryan uncrossed his legs. "I made the best decision for my career. You don't expect me to choose love over my inheritance, Erik."
Erik scoffed. "So, what you are trying to tell me is that this whole thing happened because you don't want Brad to take your place."
The silence from Ryan was a yes. Brad was his younger brother. Their father didn't approve of his relationship with Ava. Coming from a family as wealthy as his, he wasn't allowed to marry just anyone. Whoever he had to marry, would definitely have to strengthen the family's fortune.
"So, that's it. Ryan, I don't why, but I suddenly feel like you are making the worst mistake of your life. You owe Ava an apology."
Ryan cocked his hair. "You don't expect me to fold my hands and do nothing while my brother is given the title of heirship. I had to show my father that I'm worthy of it."
For a few seconds, no one said a word. Erik could see that his friend's mind was already made up.
"What about Ava?" Erik asked.
"What about her?" Ryan fired back.
"How is she? She must have seen the news."
Ryan sighed heavily. "Well, she was there at the event last night."
Erik stood to his feet in surprise. "You invited her to the event to break her heart. You're cold-blooded, man."
"It's not like that," Ryan said in his defense. "I didn't invite her."
"Then, who did?" Erik persisted. "She wouldn't have been there without her invitation card. If it wasn't you, who sent her the card?"
"Molly," Ryan replied abruptly. "Listen, Erik. I didn't plan for this to happen the way it did. But then, it happened. Hmmm... she was at my place after the event. Well, I didn't go easy on her. I ended it while Kristie watched."
Erik was disappointed in his friend. He slowly sat down without saying a word.
"Listen, Erik, we're joining hands with Kristie's father. The richest family and the second richest family. We'll be very strong. About Ava, she'll be fine. Trust me, I have it all under control."
While they were still talking, the door slid open and his secretary walked in.
"Sorry for the interruption, sir," she said to him politely. "But you have a delivery."
A delivery? Ryan thought. He wasn't expecting any package.
"Are you expecting something?" Erik asked.
He shook his head. "None that I can think of."
He received the brown envelope from the secretary and she left. Ryan carefully unsealed it and took out the white paper inside. Then, he unfolded it and perused.
It was only a matter of seconds before his heart sank into his belly. It was a pregnancy result.
"... The patient, Ava Woods, tested positive and is four weeks pregnant..."
On reading the medical report, Ryan felt a bomb explode inside his bowels.
Cold beads of sweat formed on the forehead of Ryan. His eyes had dilated fully as he stared at the medical report in his hand.
"What is it, Ryan?" Erik asked inquisitively. He was concerned about his friend.
When Ryan raised his face, it was entirely flushed. Agitation was creeping all over him.
"What's going on, man?" Erik asked again. "Who sent that to you?"
"Ava," Ryan replied. "Ava is carrying my child."
The statement hit Erik. "What the-?"
Ryan slammed the medical report right on the table and sprang on his feet, throwing quick strides as he left the office.
"Hold on, Ryan," Erik said and followed immediately.
Ryan got to the secretary with a serious look in his eyes. "Who sent this to me? Where's the lady?"
"Sir, one of the security men at the gate brought it. He said a lady desperately wanted to see you. She had the envelope with her."
The secretary went on to describe the person in question. Ryan's heart exploded. It was Ava. He had no idea she was pregnant.
He dashed out and took the nearest elevator downstairs. When he found his way outside the gate, there was no trace of Ava. She had left. The frustration on his face was very clear. All of a sudden, he wanted to make things right.
"I told you, Ryan," Erik said. "I warned you."
Ryan shut his eyes and opened it. Then,he turned to his friend immediately.
"Erik, we have to find her. I don't want anything to happen to my child. I have to find Ava."
They rushed back in and settled in Ryan's car. Then, he drove off with one person in mind- Ava!

Many meters away, Ava was walking sluggishly. The whole event that transpired the previous night left her dazed. Not even in her wildest dreams could she have thought that things would turn out this way. Ryan had turned his back on her. But somehow, she was hoping the medical report would turn the tide.
When she got to the restaurant where she worked, her boss, a chubby looking fifty year old woman, was standing outside. On seeing Ava, a thick scowl formed on her face.
"Take this shit!" The lady said.
"Good morning, ma'am," Ava greeted her.
But the angry woman wasn't ready to entertain her greeting.
"That right there, bitch, is your sack letter. Your shitty services are no longer needed."
Ava dropped on her knees. She lost Ryan. Losing her job would ruin her life completely.
"Please, please," she pleaded. "You can't do this to me. You haven't paid me for three months. Don't fire me this way."
"Get lost, lowlife!!" The lady said and pushed her down.
In the heat of the moment, three black SUV cars stopped and serious looking men stepped out. Just one of them walked to the two ladies.
Ava's callous boss chuckled broadly at him.
"Good morning, sir," she greeted him. "You are welcome to-"
The wealthy looking man shut her up with a raise of his finger. He proceeded to make a phone call. After that, he smiled at her. Then, he said politely, "From this moment, this property belongs to Avalon corp. You have three days to evacuate."
"What?" The lady asked in shock.
Her phone rang and she took the call which confirmed to her that there had been a change of ownership. Her nerves froze and she went on her knees.
"Please, you can't do this to me," she pleaded. "I will-"
The man in suit ignored her and turned to Ava. Then, he bowed his head to her.
"Miss Woods, pardon my manners. You are safe now."
The men restrained Ava's boss. Ava got up to her feet and carefully studied the specimen before him. The man was probably in his fifties. How could he have bowed to her?
"Who...are you, please?" She managed to ask.
"My name is Aaron and I am the personal assistant of your father."
The statement made no sense to the innocent girl. She was an orphan. At least, that's what she always knew. Her mother died before her eyes. And the late woman always told her she had no father.
"What..? My father?" She stuttered.
Aaron nodded in agreement. "The chairman of Avalon corp is your birth father. He has been looking for you."
Ava shook her head. "I'm sorry, mister. But you have the wrong information. I am not the person you think I am. Sorry."
Aaron was not moved. He straightened his suit. "If you don't mind, could you come with me to the car? Don't be scared. I'll explain all you need to know."
Ava curiously but doubtfully followed him into the car. By the time he was done explaining the whole situation to her, her tears were all over her face. All these years, she lived as an orphan when she had an ultra rich father.
Her fate was similar to that of her mother. The poor woman fell in love and got pregnant by Avalon Woods. When Mr Avalon was faced with the situation of either marrying a woman of his class or choosing Ava's mother, the poor woman took the bold step. To make the burden less, she eloped without letting him know about the pregnancy.
"Miss Woods, your father is now aware of everything that they did to you. He knows you're pregnant also. You should leave this country. Go to your father. He's waiting for you."
Ava was subbing. She dabbed on her tears with the back of her palm.
"I.. I don't want to run away," she replied. "What I want is revenge. They have to crumble before me."
Aaron smiled. "Miss Woods, go to your father. When you have built power, you will return to this place and make it yours."
Ava was mute for a while. She thought about it. Leaving would be the best option. She needed to leave and heal from everything. She would put to bed and watch her child grow a little before making her return.
"I will leave the country," she finally said.
Aaron slid his hand into his pocket and brought out a card.
"Miss Woods, this is a little token from your father."
"What's this?" She asked as she received it.
"There's a little money in the account. It's an apology fee for taking so long to find you."
"How much are we talking about?" She asked.
Aaron shrugged and smiled broadly. "Just five billion United States dollars."
Ava's jaw dropped in that instant. Five billion United States dollars was what Aaron called little money. She found herself wondering how much wealth was out there for her to possess.
"Five...five billion dollars?"
Aaron nodded. "There's something else for you to see."
They eventually left. Many moments later, they arrived at the headquarters of Avalon corp in the United States- an incredible mass of land with structures matching the ecstasy of the organization. Ava's life had transformed from a lowlife to a billionaire.
He followed Aaron to an elevator that took them straight to the most prestigious office. From that height, she could see the city very well.
She gasped in wonder at the magnificence of the office.
"Your father occupies here whenever he visits. Miss Woods, it will be your turn soon."
Ava looked at him with curious eyes.
"You are the heiress to your father's empire. This place will be yours to occupy. Be gone for a few years, build power and return."
Ava walked to the window and looked out to the city. She thought about the humiliation Ryan caused her. She would avenge it all.
When she spoke again, her voice carried a powerful aura.
"I will be gone for five years," she said. "Then, I will return to this city."
