Chapter 1 The Rejected Mate

The full moon hung heavy over the BloodMoon Pack, bathing the entire courtyard in a cold, silvery glow. The night was supposed to be a sacred one - the night of the Mating Ceremony, when chosen wolves would finally meet their fated mates. Laughter, wine, and whispers had filled the air moments ago, but all of it vanished when Ethan Black stepped forward.

He was everything a future Alpha should be - tall, powerful, his dark hair catching the light like liquid shadow. His golden eyes glowed with dominance as he stood before Ariana Hale, his supposed mate, the woman the Moon Goddess had chosen for him.

But the look in his eyes wasn't one of love.

Ariana's heart pounded painfully in her chest as the whispers around her turned into cruel laughter. She could feel every gaze stabbing into her skin - the pack, the elders, even the servants standing in the shadows.

"Say it," she whispered, her voice trembling but steady enough to be heard.

Ethan's jaw clenched. "I, Ethan Black," he began, his voice cold as the mountain wind, "reject you, Ariana Hale, as my mate and Luna of the BloodMoon Pack."

The words fell like blades.

Ariana's breath caught in her throat, her vision blurring. The mark that had glowed faintly on her neck - the symbol of their bond - began to fade, leaving behind only pale skin and unbearable silence.

The crowd gasped. Some pitied her. Most didn't.

A low growl echoed from the crowd - her father, Beta Hale, stepping forward, fury burning in his eyes. But the Alpha raised his hand, silencing him. No one defied the will of an Alpha's heir.

Ethan turned away, his expression unreadable. "You're not fit to stand beside me," he said quietly, though every word sliced her heart open. "You're weak. The pack deserves better."

Ariana's lips parted in disbelief. "Weak?" she whispered. "Because I'm not ruthless like you?"

He didn't answer. He walked away, leaving her standing alone under the moonlight - her tears mixing with the scent of crushed earth and broken dreams.

The crowd began to disperse, whispers following her like shadows.

"Poor girl."

"She should've known her place."

"No one rejects the Moon's will and walks away unharmed."

Ariana didn't hear them anymore. Her world had gone quiet - except for the echo of his rejection repeating in her mind.

She turned and walked back toward her family's estate, her steps unsteady, her breath shallow. Her mother tried to reach for her, but Ariana pulled away. She needed to be alone - to bleed in silence.

Inside her room, the reflection in the mirror stared back like a stranger. The once-bright mark on her neck was gone. The bond - gone. The hope she'd held for years - shattered.

Her voice broke as she whispered to herself, "Why wasn't I enough?"

The wind outside howled as if answering her pain. The scent of rain drifted through the open window, heavy with thunder and promise. She sank to her knees, clutching the side of her bed, her tears falling freely now.

Her wolf - silent. Her spirit - fading.

But just as the first lightning flashed, there was a knock at her door.

"Ariana," came her mother's trembling voice. "You need to come downstairs. Now."

"I can't," Ariana croaked. "Not tonight."

Her mother hesitated. "It's... it's the Alpha. He has spoken."

Ariana frowned, wiping her tears. "The Alpha?"

Her mother nodded, her voice breaking. "He has chosen you to marry Damon Black. Tomorrow."

For a long moment, Ariana didn't move. Her heart stuttered, then stopped entirely.

"Damon?" she whispered. "Ethan's brother?"

Her mother's silence was the only answer she needed.

A chill spread through Ariana's veins. Damon Black - the cold, unfeeling Alpha of the BloodMoon Pack. Known for his strength, feared for his cruelty. Wolves said his heart was buried with his first mate - the woman he lost in the last Blood War.

And now he wanted her.

Her stomach turned. Was this pity? Punishment? Or something worse?

She forced herself to her feet, her reflection still trembling in the mirror. Her eyes were red, her face pale, but something inside her shifted - a flicker of defiance beneath all the pain.

"If the Moon Goddess wishes to break me," she whispered to her reflection, "she'll have to try harder."

The wind blew harder, rattling the window. The moonlight caught her eyes, and for a split second - they flashed silver.

Ariana froze.

That had never happened before.

The knock came again, firmer this time. Her mother's voice was thick with fear. "Ariana, please. Don't make him wait."

Ariana swallowed hard and turned toward the door. "I'm coming."

Outside, the thunder cracked, shaking the walls. Somewhere deep within the forest, a wolf howled - long, mournful, and eerily familiar.

Ariana's pulse quickened. She didn't know it yet, but the sound wasn't just any wolf. It was the call of the Alpha who had just claimed her fate.

And by tomorrow night, she would become his Luna.

Chapter 2 The Alpha's Bride

The dawn came far too soon.

Ariana barely slept. Every time she closed her eyes, Ethan's voice echoed in her mind - cold, final, merciless. She tried to convince herself it was all a nightmare, that she'd wake up and the bond would still be there. But as the pale light of morning crept into her room, she realized the mark on her neck had truly vanished.

The bond was gone.

And in its place, a new fate awaited her.

Outside her window, the BloodMoon Pack was already stirring. Wolves moved briskly through the courtyard, carrying baskets of flowers, white silk, and golden ribbons. The air buzzed with tension, not joy. The wedding of a rejected Luna to the Alpha was no celebration - it was a political arrangement, a statement of power.

Ariana's hands trembled as her mother fastened the last clasp on her white gown. It wasn't the dress she'd dreamed of wearing. It was too tight at the waist, too heavy with embroidery, and too cold in meaning.

"You don't have to do this," her mother whispered, her voice breaking. "We can talk to the Alpha. Maybe he'll-"

Ariana shook her head gently. "You know he won't. No one questions Damon Black."

Her mother's eyes glistened with tears. "He's not a kind man, Ariana. He's lost too much. He doesn't love. He commands."

"I don't need his love," Ariana lied softly. "I just need to survive."

Her mother pulled her into a hug, trembling. "You're stronger than you think. Don't let them break you, my child."

The door creaked open. Beta Hale, her father, stood at the threshold, his face grim. "They're waiting," he said quietly. "It's time."

Ariana took one last breath, steadying herself. The scent of lavender and rain filled her lungs - the last familiar thing she would have before her world changed forever.

The BloodMoon Hall was vast and ancient, its walls carved with runes older than the pack itself. Torches burned blue fire along the stone pillars, casting strange shadows on the floor. At the far end, beneath the grand crest of the Moon Goddess, stood Alpha Damon Black.

He was taller than Ethan, broader in the shoulders, his aura ten times more intimidating. His dark hair brushed the collar of his black coat, and his silver eyes - cold and sharp - watched her like a predator measuring his prey.

The room fell silent as she entered.

Every step she took echoed. Every whisper stung.

"She looks terrified."

"Wouldn't you be?"

"Damon's Luna... poor thing won't last a week."

Ariana kept her head high, refusing to let them see her fear. But when her gaze finally met Damon's, her breath caught. His expression was unreadable - no warmth, no cruelty, just calm control.

"You may approach," he said, his voice deep and resonant.

She stepped forward, her pulse quickening.

Damon's Beta - a tall, lean man named Marcus - began the ancient Luna Binding Rite. "By the will of the Moon Goddess, the Alpha claims his Luna. Their fates entwined, their blood united."

Ariana barely heard the words. All she could feel was Damon's gaze burning into her. When Marcus handed him the ceremonial dagger, her heart skipped.

The ritual required one drop of blood from each - to bind souls under the Moon's light.

Damon's hand was steady as he pricked his palm, a single drop of crimson falling into the silver bowl between them. He offered the dagger to Ariana.

She hesitated only a second before taking it. The blade was colder than she expected. She pressed it lightly to her palm, wincing as her blood joined his.

Marcus lifted the bowl toward the moonlit skylight. "The Moon bears witness."

A flash of silver light filled the hall. The ritual was sealed.

Ariana was now Luna of the BloodMoon Pack.

Applause echoed - polite, forced. The pack bowed their heads, but she could feel their pity, their disbelief.

"Welcome, Luna," Damon said quietly.

She looked up at him. "You didn't give me a choice."

His expression didn't change. "Neither did fate."

Hours later, the feast was over. The hall emptied. Ariana stood on the balcony outside her new chambers, her gown heavy with the scent of roses and smoke. The moon was rising again - full, cold, beautiful.

Behind her, the door opened. She didn't turn.

"I didn't expect a celebration," she said softly. "Most weddings have laughter."

"Most brides aren't replacements," Damon replied, his tone flat.

She closed her eyes. "So that's what I am to you. A replacement for your dead mate."

He didn't deny it. "You wanted to survive. So do I."

Ariana turned to face him, anger flickering behind her calm. "You could've chosen anyone, Alpha. Why me?"

Damon stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. "Because the Moon chose you. And because your father owes me his loyalty. A Luna from the Hale line will ensure that continues."

"So this is about power."

"This is about control."

His words hit her harder than any rejection ever could. She took a step back, but he followed, his silver eyes glowing faintly.

"Don't misunderstand me, Ariana," he said softly, almost kindly. "I don't want your heart. I only want your obedience."

She swallowed hard, refusing to look away. "You'll have neither."

Something shifted in his expression - surprise, then something darker. "Careful, Luna. The last person who defied me no longer breathes."

Ariana's heartbeat thundered in her chest, but she didn't flinch. "Then you'll have to kill me too."

A long silence stretched between them. Then, unexpectedly, Damon smiled - not with warmth, but with intrigue.

"Maybe I misjudged you," he said finally. "Perhaps you're not as weak as your former mate claimed."

Ariana's eyes burned. "Don't speak his name."

He tilted his head slightly. "Ethan?"

"Stop."

But he didn't. "He will regret what he did. Not because he lost you-" Damon's voice dropped to a growl, "-but because he'll soon learn what it means to envy his own brother."

The room's air thickened. Ariana's wolf stirred deep inside her, restless, whispering danger.

"What do you mean?" she asked, her voice unsteady.

Damon's gaze locked onto her, cold and deliberate. "You'll understand soon enough. The Moon doesn't make mistakes - even when it looks like punishment."

Ariana shivered, but not from fear. Something in his tone made her heart twist - part dread, part curiosity.

When he finally turned and left, the door closing behind him, she sank into the nearest chair, her pulse racing.

The wind howled outside, carrying the scent of rain again - and something else. The faint metallic tang of blood.

Ariana's eyes widened. She rushed to the balcony and looked down. At the edge of the courtyard, under the silver light, two wolves were locked in combat - one black, massive and powerful; the other smaller, golden, bleeding.

Her breath caught. The golden wolf - she knew that scent.

Ethan.

And the black one...

Damon.

Cliffhanger:

Two brothers. One destiny. And a Luna caught in between - bound by blood, torn by fate.

Chapter 3 Marked by the Moon

The sound of snarls split the night.

Ariana's heart pounded as she gripped the balcony railing, her breath caught in her throat. Down in the courtyard, two enormous wolves tore through the darkness - teeth flashing, claws slicing through air and earth.

The black wolf - Damon - moved like a shadow, every strike precise, controlled. The golden one - Ethan - was desperate, wild, bleeding.

They circled each other, growling low, a storm of power and rage.

"No..." Ariana whispered, panic rising. "He'll kill him."

Without thinking, she bolted from her chambers, skirts gathered in her fists as she sprinted down the spiral staircase. The guards called after her, but she didn't stop. The courtyard air hit her like ice, sharp with the scent of blood and fury.

She reached the edge of the battleground just as Damon lunged, slamming Ethan into the ground. The impact echoed through the night. Damon's massive paw pinned his brother's throat.

Ethan whimpered - not from fear, but defiance. His golden eyes met hers for the briefest moment.

"Stop!" Ariana screamed. "Damon, stop!"

The Alpha froze mid-strike. His silver eyes lifted, meeting hers - glowing, feral. For a second, she thought he wouldn't listen.

Then, slowly, he released Ethan and stepped back, chest heaving.

Ethan shifted first, collapsing onto the cold stone in human form, his body bruised and bleeding. Damon remained a wolf, towering, his breath visible in the moonlight. His gaze never left Ariana.

She rushed to Ethan's side, kneeling beside him. "You shouldn't have come here!"

He coughed, blood staining his lips. "I had to. You don't know what he's planning, Ariana. He-"

A deep growl silenced him. Damon shifted back, his form towering over them both, the moonlight turning his bare skin to silver. His voice came low and dangerous.

"You dare trespass on my land, brother?"

Ethan staggered to his feet, clutching his side. "You call this land yours, but it belongs to the Goddess - not your tyranny!"

A flash of rage crossed Damon's face, but his control returned instantly. "You always were reckless." His eyes flicked to Ariana. "Take him away."

Two guards appeared instantly, seizing Ethan by the arms. Ariana stepped forward. "No! Please-he's hurt!"

Damon's voice cut through her protest. "He's lucky to still be breathing. Don't test my patience, Luna."

Her wolf stirred at his tone - a mixture of fear and defiance burning inside her. She glared at him. "You can't call yourself my Alpha and expect me to obey when you act like a monster."

The words hung in the air, sharp as glass.

Even the guards hesitated.

Damon's jaw tightened. For a heartbeat, the Alpha façade cracked - and she saw something raw flicker in his eyes. Pain.

Then it was gone.

"Inside," he commanded.

She didn't move. "If you want me to obey, you'll have to drag me."

Damon exhaled slowly, stepping closer until she could feel the heat radiating from his body. "Careful, Ariana. You're not ready to challenge me."

She raised her chin, defiant. "Maybe not. But I'm not afraid of you."

He stared at her for a long, heavy moment. Then, without another word, he turned and walked away - leaving her standing there in the moonlight, heart racing, tears burning behind her eyes.

That night, sleep didn't come easily.

Ariana sat on the edge of her bed, staring at the faint scar that now traced her palm - the mark from the Luna Binding. It pulsed faintly, glowing silver whenever the moonlight touched it.

She pressed her fingers to it, feeling the warmth beneath her skin. It was strange. Since the ritual, her senses had sharpened - her hearing clearer, her instincts stronger. And every time she thought of Damon, her pulse quickened in ways she couldn't explain.

Her wolf whispered to her from deep inside: The bond isn't what it seems.

She shook her head. "No. He made me his Luna for power, not love."

But her wolf only murmured, The Moon doesn't choose without purpose.

Before she could dwell on it, the door creaked open. Damon stepped in - silent, composed, his dark coat half-unbuttoned.

Ariana stiffened. "What do you want?"

"To talk."

She folded her arms. "About what? How you nearly killed your brother?"

His eyes darkened. "He came here to provoke me. You shouldn't have interfered."

"I shouldn't have interfered?" she shot back. "He's your brother!"

Damon's jaw clenched. "He was my brother. Until he betrayed this pack."

She frowned. "Betrayed you how?"

His silence was answer enough.

Finally, he said, "The less you know, the safer you'll be."

Ariana rose, meeting his gaze. "Stop pretending you're protecting me. You're protecting yourself."

Something shifted in his eyes again - that same glint of emotion she couldn't name. "You remind me of her," he said quietly.

Her heart stopped. "Her?"

He nodded slowly. "My first mate. The one I lost."

The room fell silent.

Ariana's throat tightened. "What happened to her?"

Damon's voice dropped to a whisper. "She was taken... the night the Blood Eclipse rose. The same night the Moon's mark first appeared on your family line."

Ariana frowned. "What are you talking about?"

He stepped closer, his voice low and steady. "You're not just a Luna, Ariana. You're the descendant of the Moon's first chosen - the Hidden Line. Your blood carries power even the Goddess fears."

She stared at him, stunned. "That's impossible."

Damon's hand reached toward her face, fingers brushing her cheek - unexpectedly gentle. "Then why does your mark glow under my moon?"

Ariana froze. The faint silver light pulsed again from her palm, brighter now, spilling across the floor. The air thickened with energy, the torches flickering wildly.

"What's happening?" she gasped.

Damon's eyes glowed in answer. "The Moon has begun to awaken you."

Ariana's heart raced as a warmth surged through her body - wild, powerful, ancient. Her wolf howled inside her mind, fierce and untamed.

And then, just as suddenly, everything went dark.

She collapsed into Damon's arms, unconscious.

When she awoke hours later, the sun was high. The room was empty - except for a single note left on the table.

Her trembling fingers unfolded it.

"You are the key, Luna. Keep your strength hidden. They are coming for you - even the Goddess cannot stop them."

- D.B.

Ariana stared at the words, her pulse pounding.

Who was "they"?

And what did the Moon want from her?

She looked at her glowing mark again - and for the first time, it felt alive.

Cliffhanger:

The Moon's mark had awakened.

But so had something darker - something that had waited centuries for her blood to rise again.
