As I walked into the hotel lobby, a bad feeling punched my gut forcing me to retreat. I didn't want to be here. I didn't want to meet those people. But before I could make my escape someone grabbed my arm from behind. I spun around and saw who it was. Jeremy Frasier, my ex-boyfriend, and on his arm stood Sarah, the girl who used to be my best friend in college.
"Trying to run away are you?" Jeremy asked. His voice laced with amusement.
"Stop teasing her babe, she wouldn't do that. Would you?" she looked at me with that same mischievous smirk she always carried.
"No, I just couldn't find where the reunion was"
"Oh dear, you're just as clueless as ever. Don't worry we'll take you"
They shared a glance making me feel uneasy. I knew how this would go. I always ended up humiliated in these reunions. They would always find something to take a dig at me. It was either my clothes or the fact that I wasn't in their social circle anymore. As we got into the lounge, I watched as everyone cozied up to Jeremy and Sarah trying to curry favor with them. Jeremy had just signed a contract with Grey corporations, which was one of the biggest companies in the city and Sarah was a rising star, an internet sensation. They all pushed past me as they spoke to them. Treating me like I was invisible. I had gotten used to this. I walked over to an empty chair when one of my classmates spoke.
"Selena, how dare you sit there? Don't you know that that is Sarah's chair?"
"It's alright Donald, she's my best friend after all. She can sit wherever she wants"
"Sarah, you're still as kind and considerate as always" he said to her. Then turning to me he shot me a look. "Unlike some people"
I got the message and sat on the next sit. "It's alright Sarah, the seat is yours, and I shouldn't covert it"
Satisfied that I had given up the seat they all sat down. They spoke to each other catching up and talking about their jobs and assets. I sat quietly, eating my meal as I watched them through my eyelids.
"Do you regret leaving Jeremy?" one of our classmates spoke turning everyone's attention to me.
"Don't ask her that. That was years ago, we've all moved on from that, right Selena?"
Sarah said, with fake care. She interlocked her hands with Jeremy and they stared at each other causing everyone to whistle and clap. They all knew that the reason I left Jeremy was because he cheated on me with Sarah. That had destroyed my relationship with the two of them. Jeremy had said that he always loved Sarah and I was just in the way so I broke up with him. They did this every time they got together, asking me if I regretted it now that he became a big shot. I didn't, but they never believed me.
"Even if she regrets it, I wouldn't get back with her. I'm engaged to my first love" he said as he put his hands round Sarah's shoulders.
"Engaged? Wow, congratulations" one classmate said. "I'm sure you'd want to get back together with him, especially now that he just signed one of the biggest contracts. Sarah, you better watch out for Selena."
"Selena wouldn't do that, right" she turned towards me, giving me a mocking smirk
"No" I said finally looking up from my food. "I don't even want him"
"Really?" Jeremy laughed as he leaned forward. "You don't need to pretend. How about you drink this and maybe I would let you spend the night with me"
I scoffed. He was still a jerk. An immature engaged jerk. "There's no need for that" I stood up. "I think it's time I leave"
I stood up, about to leave when one of our classmates grabbed me. "Can't you see that Jeremy is being nice? You're so ungrateful"
"It's alright if she doesn't want me. She might be interested in one of us. How about that? Would you like one of them to be your sugar daddy?" he smirked, mocking me.
I watched as everyone laughed and Sarah came to me with a glass. "Alright, alright. We're all classmates, stop bullying her. Forget about them, here have a drink. If you aren't interested in any of them, I can introduce you to some of my rich friends"
Her words sparked another round of laughter as everyone mocked me.
"Sarah is right. Didn't you come here to get back with Jeremy or bag a sugar daddy? I'll tell you what, go home with me tonight and if you please me, I would reward you greatly"
More laughter. Another classmate came forward. "How much do you make a day? Maybe if you beg Jeremy, he could hire you or recommend some jobs to you"
"She's not qualified for that. How about a job as a cleaner? I promise you, you would make a lot. Or you could be my mistress" Jeremy winked.
I felt disgust surge through me. I was fed up, I turned to leave but Jeremy grabbed me. "I never said you could leave. You didn't even pay for the food you ate. Can you even afford it? How about you kneel down and apologize to me"
"Apologize?" I scoffed. "I hadn't done anything wrong. How much is the food? I would pay for it"
He smirked. "Five hundred thousand dollars" he said. Showing his five fingers
My eyes widened. "Five hundred? For that?"
"This hotel is owned by the Greys. Of course, everything is high end and as such, expensive" one classmate said proudly"
"Well how much is my share? I would pay for that"
They laughed. It was obvious, they had planned this to humiliate me.
"But Selena, you're to pay. You're the sponsor of this event"
"What? I barely touched my food and now you want me to pay?"
"I could help you, but you would have to spend the night with me first" Jeremy said laughing. Seeing I wasn't complying he gestured to our classmates and ordered. "Hey! Bring me those glasses"
They forced me to kneel as the forced me to drink the first glass. They were about to give me the second one, Sarah stopped them and for the first time in a long time I was grateful to her. They knew I had a weak stomach so seeing her with that glass of water made me glad.
"It's alright guys. I would pay for it, no need to bully her" turning to me she handed me the water. "Here, you will feel better after you drink this"
"Our beautiful Sarah is still a kind and thoughtful girl" they praised
Seconds after I drank the water, I felt dizzy and the room began to spin.
"Let me help you" Sarah said as she helped me up. She helped me out of the lounge. Everything was blur and I couldn't see where she was taking me. My body grew hot with a burning desire. Sarah opened a door and shoved me inside. Locking the door behind me she said. "This is all your fault. You shouldn't have tried seducing Jeremy. He's mine"
Everything began to make sense. Sarah betrayed me. Again. She must have spiked the water. As the burning desire grew, I began to bang on the door, pleading. Then I felt a hand wrap around my waist.
"Help me, please" a man said as he pressed his body against mine.
Eric Grey stood by the window sipping his wine. He knew that his enemies were watching him. Trying to take him down as the Alpha. The elders were pressuring him to find a Luna and give an heir and he still had to take full control of Grey Corporation. He didn't need all this pressure and it was beginning to get him blood thirsty. Since he walked into the hotel, he had been feeling a strange heat rush through his veins. His wolf kept stirring restlessly and it heightened his senses. It was the scent. That strange intoxicating scent that sent his heart thundering. It wasn't just the scent, he felt a strange pull. Like a whisper calling him, begging for his attention.
"You have to be careful" Jared, his Beta said. Drawing him from his thoughts
"I know" he said as he took another sip of his wine.
"Kyle is coming after you in full force. My sources tell me he rallied some other wolves against you. He doesn't seem to be backing down"
"Do you really think I'm scared of Kyle? I'm his Alpha"
"I know Alpha Eric but he could kill you if he gets close"
He gave a low chuckle. "Then don't let him get close. As my Beta you're meant to protect me, right"
"That is what I'm trying to do Alpha Eric. Don't go to the party tonight"
"You know I can't do that. I represent the Grey Corporation"
"But"
"I'm going. And that's final"
Jared shook his head as he followed Eric to the lobby. Eric never listened. Immediately the came in Carrie, the woman everyone expected to be Eric's Luna walked towards him with a glass of wine. She threw Jared an annoyed glare before handing the glass to Eric.
"Here you go, darling"
"Don't call me that. I've told you to stop giving people the wrong idea"
That was all he ever said. He never really acted. He sipped the wine and walked away with Carrie giving Jared a mocking smile.
As Eric sipped the wine he began to feel dizzy and stumbled into Carrie's arms.
"Are you alright? Do you want to help you back to your suite?"
He nodded as he took her hand, but pushed her aside as realization crept in. She had drugged him. How didn't he anticipate this? He began to feel a burning sensation. He began to loosen his tie and looking at her with anger he growled.
"You drugged me?"
Before she could speak Jared dragged her out. Eric stumbled away from the lobby trying to find his way to his suite. The heat in his body grew as he held unto the walls for support. He walked into his room and downed a glass of water. It seemed to make it worse, he took of his suit and threw it unto the bed. His wolf growled. He heard his door open and that strong feeling was back. He heard a woman's voice begging and banging on the door. With no other way to stop the desire he found himself walking towards the voice. He needed an immediate remedy. Taking hi hand t her waist and pressing his body against her he said.
"Help me, please"
I felt a hot sting as I opened my eyes. Panic crept in as I realized I wasn't at home. I quickly sat up as I surveyed my surroundings. The memories of last night came flooding back as I turned to look at the stranger beside me. I blushed with embarrassment as I remembered what had happened. My hands flew to my lips as I thought of the kiss. Realizing myself, I slowly got up and grabbed my things, running out of the suite. I couldn't believe what had happened. I took out my phone and saw that my former classmates had posted the video humiliating me on the group. I couldn't even say anything.
They were all either extremely rich or extremely famous. No one had cared about me. They just kept on mocking me on the group. I put my phone in my pocket as I hailed a cab. Back at home I stared at the eviction notice on my table. It was due in three weeks and I still hadn't gotten the money. I sighed as I threw myself on the bed. My phone began to ring and I picked it up. It was my boss.
"Selena, where are you?"
I checked my time, I was late again. "I'm sorry, I was feeling sick but I'm on my way now "
"This is the third time this week. This is coming out of your paycheck and if you don't get here in the next ten minutes, you're fired"
I fell silent. If I kept this up I was definitely going to end up homeless.
"Oh and Selena?"
"Yes?"
"This is going to be your last warning"
I rushed into the office and went to my table. There were files piled up on it with notes ordering me to sort it out. I sighed. This has been going on for years. The seniors would always hand me their work and take credit for the works I did. I couldn't argue or protest because I would just end up getting fired. I started working on one of the files when one of my seniors walked towards me with more files in her hands.
"Here, do these first. Then get coffee for me"
"But I have to be done with all these" I said pleading
"What does that have to do with me? Finish this by the end of the day. Oh and don't forget to get me my coffee"
I got up about to leave when Mr. Lewis's secretary walked towards me
"Selena. Mr. Lewis would like to see you in his office"
Panic took over me as I walked towards his office. I knocked on his door and a silent 'come in' came from through it. I walked into the office, my mind racing. His head was still buried in his laptop. He didn't acknowledge my presence. It was like he didn't know I was in here.
"Mr. Lewis. You wanted to see me"
He finally looked up at me. Pushing his glasses from his nose he leaned back.
"I have to fire you "he said silently. I could feel the blood drain from my body, I had expected this. But not now, I needed this job.
"Sir, I'm really sorry about coming late to work. It wouldn't happen again "
"No, it's not that" he said as he handed me the phone.
There was the video taken by my college classmates and some pictures taken from my time in the suite. My face turned pale as I looked up at me.
"They're threatening the company's reputation with this. The only thing they want I for me to fire you"
"Me? Why me?"
"Look, I don't know the people you've offended, but they're pretty serious this was sent to their companies, none would hire you" he said sympathetically.
I didn't understand why they kept targeting me. My mind went between Jeremy and Sarah, trying to guess which of them could have done this. Why did they need to mess with my life?
"Please Mr. Lewis, I need this job "
"The only thing I can do for you is to give you your full paycheck. But for the job? You're fired"
I walked out of his office like a corpse. I felt as if someone had stepped on me many time. I packed my thing ignoring the questions and the stares. I felt the hot tears pour as I told at the entrance of the office. This was it. I was going to be homeless. I cried as I thought of everything I had endured over the years at the office. Now it was going to be all for nothing. I took a deep breath trying to hold back the tears but then fresh hot ones escaped from my eyelids. I tried to shut them out as I closed my eyes but it just made things worse. I got into a cab and headed home.
Eric got up from the bed and noticed that the woman from last night had left. He remembered the events of the night but her face was nothing but a blur. He wanted to find her, there was something about her that stirred something in him. He had remembered what he felt that night and how strongly he felt it when she walked into the room. He remembered how she was obviously drugged and they had needed each other at that moment. He didn't have to take responsibility for her at least. He had thing to deal with. He was about to drop it when he remembered. He had marked her.
"Eric?" Jaden called pulling him from his thoughts.
Jaden stared at him as he walked into the bedroom. He could smell it.
"I know what you're going to say, don't worry about it "he waved his hand dismissively
"You don't want me to sort it out?" Jared asked as he arched his brow
"No need"
"Good, because we have bigger problems"
"What? The elders again? Or Kyle?" Eric asked, bored.
"No, this time it's Carrie"
"What about her?" he was curious. She had drugged him and he wanted to know why
"She's working with Kyle. Turns out the only reason she's been trying to be your Luna is so Kyle can have control of you, through her"
Eric chuckled in disbelief. He walked over and poured himself a drink. He took a sip and looked at Jared.
"I underestimated Kyle"
"That's what I've been saying. He has insiders everywhere and some of the elders are beginning to tilt towards him because of your failure to produce a Luna"
"That's because I'm waiting on the moon goddess for my mate"
"The elders are tired of hearing that. They've given you a week to get a Luna and a month to produce an heir"
Eric's mind flew to. The woman from yesterday, she was the only person that stirred him and he had already marked her. He smiled as a plan formed.
"Get me information on the woman from yesterday"
"What?"
"You heard me, the elders want a Luna? They're going to have a Luna"
"She's a human"
"So what?"
"The elders would never accept this. The pack would rebel. This could ruin everything "
"The elders already dislike me"
"This will upset them more. The pack doesn't need this"
"The pack is already rebelling. I have to remind them who is the alpha. They're to follow my orders and my orders only"
"If you do this, you'd be promoting infighting"
"Not if I send a message first. Where's Carrie?"
"She's chained up in the place. Why?" he asked as he watched Eric curiously.
"She's going to be our message"
I stared at my empty fridge and felt my stomach growl in protest. I hadn't eaten a good meal and now I was unemployed. It was like life had it out on me. I stared at the evicted notice on the table and sighed. I had no way of paying the rent and would have to move in with my parents. They loved me and we're glad to take me in, but that was just going to increase the burden on them. I let out a sigh again as I lay on the bed.
"This day couldn't get any worse"
A know on the door pulled me out of my thoughts and I went to open the door. Immediately I opened it, I wanted to shut it as quickly. Jeremy stood there giving me a knowing smile.
"So, you got fired?"
"That was you?"
He nodded casually, like he didn't just ruin my life.
"You didn't need that job anyway. How about you become my mistress? That offer still stands "
"You're a scumbag Jeremy. You're engaged to Sarah and here you are at my doorstep, drooling. What would she think?"
He frowned as if he didn't expect my response. "I'm trying to help you Selena "
"Help me?" I laughed. "You got me fired from my job. For no reason"
"You humiliated me at the reunion" he said as he grabbed my hand
"Humiliated you? Where you the one held to the grown, being forced to drink and then drugged?"
His eyes widened, a hint of guilt playing in his expression. "That's what I thought "
I pulled my arm away from him.
"Sorry about that"
His apology threw me off guard. But it was too late. I had lost my job and my pride.
"It doesn't matter anymore. I think it's time you leave"
"Come on Selena, you're bring too..."
I shut the door before he could complete whatever he wanted to say. I was upset and hearing him made it worse. I felt myself drop to the floor as fresh hot tears streamed down my face. Crying had become normal for me. I head his footsteps fade and began to get up. As I tried to stand I felt my balance shift. Something was wrong. I help the door for support trying to support myself as I felt dizzier. The room began to spin and before I could react I felt the lights in my head go off.
Eric stared at the unconscious Carrie. She was chained to the wall, her appearance now similar to that of a beggar. He smiled as one of his men slapped her, jolting her awake.
"Good morning princess"
"E-Eric, I'm sorry. I just really love you. I didn't mean that"
"Really?" he smiled as he steadied her gaze to lock with his. "So you're not working with Kyle"
Her eyes widened with shock. He shot her a knowing look as he smiled.
"I'm going to hand it to you though. You almost had me fooled. You might have actually been my Luna"
"Eric, please"
He slapped her as he growled. "I am your alpha and you will address me as such"
"I'm sorry. Alpha"
"Now isn't that better?" he gestured to one of his men to come closer to him. "Send the message"
Fear washed over Carrie as she understood. "P-please, I would do anything. Please "
She begged as they unchained her. Eric didn't seen to hear her as he walked towards Jared. She pleased as she was dragged out. She kicked and screamed but Eric didn't spare her a glance as he took the file from Jared.
"What did you find?"
"Not much. We couldn't find where she lives but her name is Selena Webb. She came to the hotel yesterday for a class reunion and ended up in your bed. Here's a video of her, we picked that up from the hotels camera"
Eric watched as her classmates, dragged her to the ground and forced her to drink. He smiled as he frowned as he saw her helpless state.
"Get me information on every single one of them in this video." He ordered. "You didn't find out where she worked?"
"She was fired two days ago. Turns out someone sent this out to her company, threatening its reputation"
He turned back to the file they had. "Selena Webb. Who are you?"
I opened my eyes, the smell of antiseptic filling my nose. I turned and saw my parents talking to a doctor. I sat up trying to unplug the drip from my hands and the doctor noticed and turned to me.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you"
My parents turned around and ran to me, their worried expressions broke my heart.
"Honey, we came to pick you up and found you unconscious by the door. We were so scared" my mother said. Tears already filling up her eyes.
"We've taken some tests and we're waiting for the results. But so far you're okay. A little malnourished but okay"
My mother cried more and my father looked at me with a worried look.
"You haven't been eating?" he asked as he looked at me. "Aren't they paying you enough?"
"Dad, I got fired two days ago"
"What? Why? Why didn't you tell us? When you said you were coming home I thought you just wanted to stay with us for a little while"
"I'm sorry dad" I said as tears streamed down my face. My mother turned to my father giving him a warning glare.
"That doesn't matter right now. Right now we have to keep our baby healthy. Look how lean she's gotten"
My mother wrapped me in her arms and began to cry. My father stood there expressionless.
"You should have told us. We saw the eviction notice on the table. We could have helped you"
"I know dad. I just didn't want to burden you or mum"
My father's face turned sad. He hated when I said that. He moved towards me and took me in his arms.
"Oh, honey. You know that you can never be a burden to us"
My mother nodded in agreement. I began to tear up again.
"We found out where she lives" Jared said as he walked into Eric's office. Eric raised his head up from his laptop and asked.
"Who?"
"The woman from that night"
Now interested, he sat up. His expression unreadable. "So?"
"Well, where she used to live"
"What do you mean?"
"She had been behind on her rent and the landlord said she heard she was going to move out. It looks like she's in need of financial assistance"
"So you're back to square one?" Jared nodded. "What about the people from the video?"
"All of them work under companies which are under Grey corporations. One of the guys who just signed a contract with the company. His name is Jeremy Frasier. Turns out he was her boyfriend back in college and they broke up because he was cheating on her with her now ex best friend. Sarah"
"So the cheating ex and best friend decided to humiliate her"
"Turns out this happens during each of their reunions because she's not as financially stable as they are. This time it was worse because of Jeremy and Sarah's engagement"
"What was she doing in my suite then? Was she trying to escape from them?"
"Turns out Sarah led her here. I think she also drugged her because they seemed to have pictures of that night. Explicit ones. Turns out they don't know what Eric Grey looks like"
"Blacklist each of them. They shouldn't be able to work in this city ever again. And anyone who works with them would be going against the Greys. Withdraw the contract that was given to Jeremy Frasier. And find me Selena Kyle"
Jared nodded as he left the office. Eric closed his laptop and turned to the file once more. He needed to find her if his plan was going to work. He couldn't make any more mistakes.
I smiled as my mother fed me the fruits she had brought back for me. She had stayed with me all night and only left to bring me food. My father helped to clear out my things from the room and set up a place for me in my parent's house. All we had to do now was to wait for the test results. The doctors had said I could get discharged after getting the results and I couldn't wait to escape the draining smell of the hospital. I watched as my father walked into my hospital room.
"How are you feeling honey" he asked concerned
"Better than I've felt in a long time" I smiled as he made his way towards us poking his head in the plate in front of me.
"I see why my plate was almost empty. You brought everything for your beloved daughter" he chuckled as he help my mother. "I guess now that she's back I would have some competition for your attention"
My mother laughed as she held him back. "You better be careful, because it seems like she's way ahead of you"
I smiled. Having them here was a blessing, it made me happy. I really thought they would be disappointed in me, especially finding out I lost my job and was going to end up homeless if not for them. But they were being really supportive. I felt a little teary trickle down my cheek and my father seemed to notice as he gave me a concerned look.
"Is everything okay honey?"
I nodded. "I'm just glad you're here with me"
"Of course dear. We're your parents, we will always be there for you. That's our responsibility"
I sighed as my mind trailed back to the reunion. My parents never liked Jeremy and they kept warning me about him, but I never listened. They weren't surprised when I told them about him cheating on me with Sarah, but they still didn't judge me. They just supported me and advised me to forget about them. They had told me to cut of contact, and it was easy as that was my senior year. I still regretted it, especially since Jeremy and Sarah made sure I didn't forget what had happened. They never failed to remind me that they were in a different circle than I was.
"I'm sorry" I choked.
My apology surprised them and they came to my side again.
"It's alright honey"
I nodded and smiled again. The door opened, interrupting our moment and the doctor walked in.
"Well Ms. Selena. You're good to go. Here are your discharge papers, we just need your signature"
I collected the papers and signed, glad I was finally leaving this place that smelt of horror.
"You have to take care of yourself and avoid anything that may stress you" I nodded and he turned to my parents. "Ensure she has enough to eat"
"Alright doctor. Thank you. What about the test?"
"Well sir, I was just getting to that. She has to avoid stress and eat enough because she's eating for two"
"What?" I asked as I say up.
"Congratulations. You're pregnant"
