VEGA
I walked into the school environment with my head down. I used the length of my hair to wrap my face so no one would recognise me.
"Vega! Where are you rushing off to?" That was Victoria, my twin and nemesis. I walked even faster knowing she would want to embarrass me again just like she always did.
Victoria wore her favourite black heels with a very short transparent skirt that exposed her thighs; the top she put on was strapless, exposing her bare shoulders.
Sometimes I feel so ashamed seeing my sister in this manner. I wish I could just scrape off my face or hers so we wouldn't look so much alike.
"Why are you in such a hurry?" Victoria pulled me back. Looking at her one-sided smirk only infuriated me more.
"Oh, wow....Tori, you two look so much alike I must confess." The witch Katrina said.
Katrina and Victoria have been friends since the goddess knows how long.
I so much hate their friendship because I was the one who suffered for the crimes they committed.
"You don't know how much I'm embarrassed having her as a sister, she's so slow and weak."
"I'm more embarrassed of you," I said in a whisper.
"What! You are embarrassed of me? You think I didn't hear what you said right?
Victoria was fuming with anger now and it looked like her wolf would take control any minute.
I used the medium to escape from their presence.
"Stay right there Vega! How dare you be embarrassed of me!" Katrina was trying to calm her down while she struggled to chase after me.
I walked as fast as I could to my class.
Fortunately for me, Victoria and I aren't in the same class and that saved me a lot of stress. But another sad part was that there's another bully named Becca in my class.
She was another friend of Victoria and Beta's daughter. I think Victoria was destined to make my life a living hell because if she wasn't the one tormenting me, her minions were.
When I got into my class, Mrs. Roosevelt was already giving notes.
"Miss Vega Gilbert, you are late again..."
"I'm sorry Mrs. Roosevelt; I promise to be early tomorrow."
Mrs. Roosevelt let out a long sigh. "That's what you've been saying ever since you started schooling at Snow Academy."
"I'm sorry Mrs. Roosevelt."
"Don't say sorry. I want you to start being punctual!"
I felt everyone's gaze on me; some of my classmates looked at me in disgust and some in sympathy.
I quietly went to my seat. As I was about to sit down, I saw a write-up that almost choked the life out of me.
"Leave my boyfriend alone you whore!"
I composed myself and sat down on my seat like nothing had happened.
I could hear the murmurings of my classmates calling me a stupid whore. I was moved to tears because I knew nothing about what they were accusing me of.
"Silence! Everyone!" Mrs. Roosevelt shouted and the murmuring immediately died down.
"No talking till my period is over."
After class, I became so exhausted because I hardly went to bed early. I did all the chores by myself while Victoria slept like a dead wolf.
I was practically the one doing everything at home, including the cooking.
Ever since our Mom died, life hasn't been the same for me again. Sometimes I felt Victoria hated me because I was the one who held my mom's hands before her death.
To say the truth, I was my mom's favourite back then, just as Victoria was Dad's. Victoria was never happy that Mom made me her favourite. She wanted all the love to herself, so when Mom died, Victoria became very hostile towards me and our dad, the Alpha, did nothing about it.
Victoria and I were so identical, and we looked so much like our Mom. We had the same dark long hair, auburn green eyes, light skin, and also equal heights.
Victoria was the first to come into the world before I did and that made her the eldest.
"What are you thinking about you moron?!" The words were accompanied by a hard slap on my face.
"Ouch that must have hurt..." Becca said smiling.
I felt the pain so hard on my face. "What was that for?" I asked very confused and pissed.
"That is for stealing my boyfriend Nathan!"
I couldn't say a word as everyone gasped in shock. The disgust they had on their faces for me only made me want to cry.
"What? Cat got your tongue?"
"I only thought you were stubborn; I never knew you were also a fucking whore!"
Uncontrollable tears ran down my cheeks. This wasn't the first time I was accused of something I didn't do.
But who was I to complain when I knew my complaints would only fall on deaf ears? I was very sure Victoria was the one she saw with her boyfriend.
It's so heartbreaking that these minions of hers couldn't tell the difference between me and her, and I was always the one who suffered for her reckless behaviour.
"Listen, the next time I see you around my boyfriend, I will pull out your eyes and feed them to the beasts of the forest."
Becca walked out with the rest of her group who eyed me with pure hatred.
When I finally got home, I got to my room which was beautifully decorated in white.
White was my favourite colour. I remember when my mom was still alive, she was the one who always decorated my room.
She decorated my reading table with well-scented snowdrop flowers that I always liked. Whenever I am in my room, I get reminded of the love my Mom showered on me.
I miss her so much and life has lost its colour and value to me ever since her passing.
My mom was from the family of a rare bloodline of witches. A witch never had a wolf since they had special powers, but it was different for my mom. She had a wolf and a powerful one at that. Sometimes I wonder why a powerful witch like my Mom would die so early.
I drifted off to sleep while thinking of my mom.
The constant banging of my room door woke me up from sleep.
"Vega! I know you are in there, you better get out right this instant before I pull down the door." Victoria was getting on my nerves but I had to swallow my anger since nothing good would come out from being angry at her.
I stood up lazily to unlock the door. The moment the door was unlocked, Victoria barged in, pushing me to the hard floor.
She looked very angry. "Why are you sleeping huh? Aren't you supposed to make dinner? You are becoming so lazy Vega." This annoyed me to the extreme, and I folded my hands into a fist but because I was very good at controlling my temper, I quickly calmed down.
"If you are so hungry, you could have made yourself something to eat."
"What! Are you seriously telling me to go to the kitchen to make myself dinner?"
"That's exactly what I said." I rolled my eyes at her knowing full well that it annoyed her. At least I had to let her understand she couldn't bully me all the time.
"Did you just roll your eyes at me? Vega, do you realise I am your elder sister?!
For goddess' sake how can someone be this loud?
"Lest I forget, you should stop going out with Nathan; you do realise he's Becca's boyfriend right?"
Victoria's expression immediately changed to that of surprise, but it was immediately replaced by her vicious look.
"Who the hell told you about it?"
"Oh so you are not denying the fact that you are whoring yourself with someone's boyfriend?"
That gave me a sound slap on the face, and I fell backwards.
"The next time you talk to me like that again, I will scratch off that face with my claws till you are unrecognisable.
Victoria left my room, shutting the door with full force that shook the room.
How long would I keep being treated in this way? Tears ran down my cheeks again. I was so bitter but there was no one I could talk to or explain myself to.
If only Mom was here, she wouldn't let Victoria treat me this way.
I quickly changed my wear into leggings and a Cardigan, I took my backpack and left the house through the window in the dead dark night.
My wolf wanted to go for a run and so did I. Whenever I was down, a good run made me feel better.
I walked into the woods in haste in order not to be caught.
When I was a bit deep into the forest, I looked for my favourite tree and changed my clothes, after which I shifted into my large white wolf.
A secret, no one has ever seen my wolf because no one cared about me or what I did, not even my father.
When our coming-of-age ceremony was held, Victoria made herself the Queen of the show, so I decided to leave the gathering and go into the woods where I transformed into my white wolf.
"Come on Vega let's have a race. I am dying for a run already."
"Okay Jackie, let's do this."
We raced into the deeper part of the forest. I was so enjoying our run that I forgot I was already out of the pack's boundary.
The stench of something bad hit my nose and I immediately stopped in my tracks.
Jackie was on high alert surveying the area. It suddenly dawned on me that I was far away from my pack.
How could I be so stupid as to lose track of where I was headed?
"Jackie, we have to retreat back to our pack."
Just as I was about to make a U-turn back to where I came from, two wild-looking wolves popped out from around the bushes.
Oh the fowl stench was so irritating coming from these rogues.
Rogues are known to be wolves without a pack and they are known for being very wild and ruthless.
They killed just about anyone they came into contact with.
Mom had warned us several times never to step out of our pack's boundary for fear of the rogues.
I had never once seen a rogue in my life before, but seeing these ferocious-looking beasts, I was very sure they were the rogues we were warned about.
One of them shifted into his human form, and he was stark naked. In our werewolf world, being naked was a normal thing for everyone; no one was ashamed of how they looked being naked.
"Wow...will you look at that... a white wolf. This is incredible!"
The rogue was very tall with curly brown hair, he wasn't that handsome for a man but he looked extremely dangerous.
"I think our master will love to see this."
I trembled in fear hearing this. Would they kidnap me? No this was very bad. How could I fight two beastly wolves?
No one would come to save me, not even my father because he never liked me. But I just couldn't let myself be kidnapped just like that.
The other guy in his wolf form growled at me.
"Now if you will be a good girl and just come with us, I promise we won't hurt you, we are actually good wolves."
The fake smile the wolf in his human form showed me only gave me goosebumps.
He walked closer to me trying to get a hold of my wolf.
"Vega aim for his throat, don't be scared I'm with you."
I immediately dived at the rogue in one swift attack and bit his neck.
The other rogue in his wolf form growled loudly and lunged an attack at me but my wolf was a very smart one.
Jackie dodged his attack in one swift move and prepared for an attack on him.
Before the rogue wolf could prepare for another attack, Jackie was already on top of him; she dismembered his head from the neck.
I looked at the two rogue wolves I just killed. I can't believe my wolf can do that.
"Jackie, did we really do that?"
"Hell yeah, we did; we can even do more. These rogues are nothing compared to how strong we are."
This was the first time I fought with a wolf and also my very first kill.
I can't believe I could fight not to talk about killing a rogue. If dad finds out I killed a wolf, will he be proud of me?
No I can't tell him. That would only anger him to know I broke the rules and left the pack's boundary.
Besides he has never been pleased with me all because Victoria keeps making me a villain in front of him and she the saint.
I am sure I will be grounded for a whole month again.
Yes that's what happens to me whenever Victoria makes me the receiver of her punishments.
I raced back to my pack. I changed my clothes when I finally got to the tree where I kept my backpack. I carried my backpack with me and headed back home.
"I had fun today Vega. How did you feel having your first kill?" Jackie asked excitedly.
"I don't know, I didn't feel bad nor did I feel anything good about it. Killing isn't something to be proud of, I guess."
"You didn't just kill anyone Vega, you killed two beastly rogue wolves. I bet you Victoria wouldn't be able to defend herself if she were in your position.
"Shush... don't say that, Victoria's wolf must be as strong as you too."
"Of course not, Jenner isn't as strong as me, we are both different."
"Huh? How so?"
Jackie sighed in Vega's head.
"Sometimes you can very well be a dummy Vega. You are different because you alone have your mother's powers. You are stronger than you think."
"Really?"
"Yes really, but your powers will be made manifest when you are fully mated to a Lycan."
I paused. Jackie just dropped a bombshell.
"What! A Lycan? Do you know exactly what you are talking about? Lycans do not just fall from the sky, they are known to be the most powerful and strongest werewolves that ever lived."
"Exactly what I mean Vega, you should never underestimate yourself."
We finally got home, and silence was what welcomed us. Everyone must be asleep now I guess. I went into my room through the window. Suddenly my stomach made a loud noise.
I just remembered that I never had anything to eat before going for a run.
Damn Victoria, it was all her fault. I quickly took a shower and headed to the kitchen to make something I could eat.
After eating to my satisfaction, I stood up and stretched my long frame. I was so tired after having a long day at school and in the forest.
"Where did you go to Vega?" I was so startled to an extreme that I almost dropped the plates I was holding.
Alpha Blake Gilbert, who is also my father, appeared behind me. I trembled in fear not knowing what to do.
"I will ask you one last time Vega don't even try to be smart with me. Where the hell did you go!?"
Jackie whimpered at the tone of his Alpha's voice.
" I...I..."
"Speak up this instant!" Fear gripped me to the point where I almost had a panic attack.
My Dad was never pleased with me, I knew that, but I've never seen him become this furious or use his Alpha tone on me.
Could he have found out about me leaving the pack's boundary or did he know about the rogues?
"I went for a run Father." I trembled in fear, unwilling to meet my Father's furious gaze.
"Was that all you did?"
Oh no! This is bad!
"I just...went for a run, that's all." I lied through my teeth because I knew it would be much worse if he found out what I actually did.
"Why do you smell like rogues then?"
That's it! I'm toast!
I couldn't say a word. I just stood in front of him mortified.
"Why are you eating this late?"
I heaved a silent sigh of relief. Thank the goddess he has finally dropped the topic.
"I wasn't hungry earlier, but after I went for a run, I regained my appetite."
My Father eyed me suspiciously like there was something fishy going on around me. The good thing is that he did not continue with the questions; otherwise, I don't think I could hold on for long.
"You should go back to sleep. It's very late."
"Yes father I will."
I felt so relieved knowing I was safe. Just as I was about to go back to my room, my father came back.
"And Vega, never set foot outside the pack's boundary. It's a warning." He walked back into his room after saying those words.
Now my heartbeat increased. What if other rogues find out their members were killed? There was no other pack closer to the area apart from ours.
How could I be so stupid? What if they launch an attack on us for this?
But I was sure no one saw me killing those rogues. Besides I was the only white wolf around, not even my pack members knew the colour of my wolf.
I'm very sure my Father has never seen my wolf before, so for that reason I guess I'm safe.
Thinking back to when Victoria and I were little, my father was the best father to us, he wasn't this strict or angry back then, at least to me.
Ever since my Mom died, he's totally changed, but his change was mostly towards me because he never treats me in the manner in which he treated Victoria.
I'm very well aware that Victoria has always been his favourite, but that never stopped him from showing me how much he loved her too. He listened to Victoria more than he ever listened to me.
He believed whatever she told him and punished me accordingly. He has changed from the ever-loving father he used to be to his daughters.
Sometimes I don't blame him though. Losing a mate for a werewolf was like losing the whole world. I just wish he could show me a little love, just as he has always done in the past.
ALPHA BLAKE
Ever since he perceived the rogue scent on his daughter Vega, he had been suspicious of her.
He knew his daughter well enough. He knew she lied about just going for a run. There was a lot more than that, and he would find out soon.
In times like this, he missed Lana, his mate, she was a good Luna and the best mother to her kids.
It's so unfortunate that she had to sacrifice her life for Vega. Ever since Victoria and Vega were born, Vega has always been weak.
Lana was a powerful witch and so she discovered her daughter Vega wouldn't have a long life because she was born without a wolf. Lana could not watch her daughter die and so she fed Vega with her powers. There were consequences for Lana's action and it was the fact that her powers would deteriorate whenever she fed them to Vega.
Alpha Blake tried to stop Lana from doing what she was doing, knowing her life would be shortened, but she refused. She said she could never watch any of her daughters die before her very own eyes, especially when she had the powers to save them.
She was determined to sacrifice her life so Vega could live for a very long time.
Truthfully, Lana loved her two daughters equally, but she paid more attention to Vega because she was the weak one.
When Alpha Blake saw how dedicated Lana was to Vega, he decided to pay more attention to Victoria so she wouldn't feel left out.
After the death of his wife, Alpha Blake developed both a love and hate feeling for his daughter Vega. He loved her because she was his flesh and blood but he couldn't help being displeased with her sometimes for she was the reason his mate died early.
He had promised Lana to never let any of their daughters find out about the truth and so he had kept this secret to himself all these years.
He knew Vega's wolf was a rare one and she hid it from everyone. It was better no one found out about her identity because her identity would only bring chaos and disaster to the werewolf world...
...........................
"There's something you need to see Alpha Blake." Beta Raymond walked in on his Alpha looking very disturbed.
Alpha Blake gritted his teeth knowing full well something was wrong, he could sense it already.
They both shifted to their wolves and raced down the pack's boundary.
Alpha Blake eye-scanned his environment before setting his paws outside his boundary with Raymond behind him.
They walked just a few steps and the stench of dead rogues hit their nostrils.
"What the hell happened here?" He asked his beta through mind link but Raymond was as confused as he was.
"Whoever did this must be very powerful," Raymond said.
They went back to their pack and shifted to their human forms.
"Who do you think must have done this Alpha?" Alpha Blake clenched his fists in pure anger. He knew just who might be responsible for this.
"Raymond, keep what we found outside the boundary a secret, no one must find out about this, absolutely no one. Do you understand?"
Raymond nodded in absolute response. They both knew this was trouble.
Rogue attacks were something they had never experienced since the agreement they had with the rogue Alpha Griffin.
But now that two rogues have been found dead not far from their pack, it was clear a member of the White Snow Pack did it and Alpha Blake just might know who was responsible for it.
He marched into the house but found out Vega and Victoria already went to school.
He knew it! Last night he perceived the ominous rogue scent on his daughter Vega. He knew she had a powerful wolf but never in his wildest dreams would he have imagined Vega could kill anyone.
Has he underestimated his daughter's power? Alpha Blake paced back and forth in his study room.
He knew what would happen if anyone found out about this. His Pack would be at stake, and even his daughter Vega would be in deep trouble...
Later in the evening, Vega came back home tired as usual. This time she made dinner for everyone in peace because Victoria stopped talking to her.
Vega so much enjoyed the silent treatment Victoria was giving her, and she wished it would stay that way for a very long time.
After dinner, Alpha Blake requested Vega's presence in his study room.
Just when she thought she was safe, now she's being summoned.
Vega hardly visited her father's study room because he seldom requested her, unlike Victoria who had constant access to his study.
"Shut the door behind you," came Alpha Blake's deep voice.
Vega felt like melting away from her father's presence, something tells her she's in deep trouble.
Jackie was saying all sorts of things in her head but she just shut them off to the back of her mind.
She stood in front of her father who was sitting on his hair with his gaze penetrating deep into her soul.
Vega's heart began to beat faster in her chest out of fear.
"Are you ready to tell the truth now?" She could tell her father was very angry at her right now. There's no reason to hide anymore because she knew he must have found out.
"I only killed them to defend myself," Vega said in a whisper with her head hung low.
Alpha Blake's stern face softened a little. He never knew she would come out so plain. He couldn't deny the fact that he was quite pleased knowing his daughter at nineteen could defend herself.
If only Vega could see her father's face right now, she would understand that he was proud of her at this moment, but she was just too afraid to meet his eyes.
"Do you know what you have done?" He changed his tone. His daughter must have done the right thing in defending herself but she never thought about the consequences of her actions and that annoyed him.
"I know... I should never have killed them." Vega's tears ran down her cheeks.
"Have I endangered our pack?" She raised her head to look at her father whose face was expressionless.
"I don't know if we are in danger yet, but I know this is not the end."
"I am so sorry father, this is all my fault. I will fix this."
Alpha Blake let out a sigh. "And how do you intend to fix it? You are right when you say it is your fault but you can't fix anything as it is now."
Vega cried even more, she regretted ever going into the woods that night, and she regretted not watching where she was going.
"Go back to your room and for goddess' sake! Don't cause any more troubles for me."
Vega ran out of her father's study only to bump into Victoria who had been eavesdropping by the door.
She ran past Victoria who smirked at her. She got into her room and shut the door behind her.
Vega lay on her bed and cried herself to stupor and her tears blinded her vision.
Vega wasn't crying for the rogues she killed, she was crying because her father was disappointed in her.
She wished she had let the rogues kidnap her that way her father wouldn't have to be disappointed in her.
Maybe it would be better to be bullied and hated by a stranger than by your own pack members and family.
Victoria walked into Vega's room.
"So you're now a rogue killer? Wow... my sister is so tough."
Vega thought she bolted the door behind her but from the look of things she didn't.
"Why are you crying? I mean shouldn't you be happy you killed a rogue?" Victoria stood in front of Vega who lay on her bed with her arms underneath her head. Victoria smiled like a sick maniac. This was what she always wanted and that was to make their father disappointed in her.
"Leave me alone Victoria! You've won. Are you happy now?" Vega was in pure rage. It was bad enough that her father is disgusted with her; now Victoria is only making it worse by adding salt to her injury.
"Oh baby sister, you don't know how delighted I am right now. I'm so very excited you are beginning to show your true colours."
"Get out of my room!" Vega screamed in anger. Victoria smirked in a wicked way.
"I will leave but let me tell you this: when the rogue Alpha comes looking for the killer of his rogues, I swear to the moon goddess I will sell you out!"
Victoria left her sister's room in rage shutting the door forcefully behind her.
"Don't worry Vega, we will be okay, I promise." Jackie consoled Vega.
"You should have let me claw at her face. I so badly want to destroy that face of hers."
"We can't do that Jackie, she's still my sister no matter what. I am sure she will come around someday."
No matter what happened, Vega still loved her sister very much.
