Stuck with the Billionaire

Miriam rolled on the bed as she struggled not to wake up. Her alarm rang and she stretched her hand to reach it but couldn't. She loudly screamed as she angrily stood up, picked up the alarm, and forcefully turned it off. She sat back on the bed brushing her hair with her hand as she looked out of the window, she slowly let out a sigh as she lay on her back shutting her eyes.

''Are you not coming down for breakfast?''

A voice called from the stairs outside her room, it was her sister Sophia,

''I'm coming sis''

She responded and gently stood up and walked to the bathroom to brush her teeth. After brushing, she went to the dining table to have breakfast with her family. Everyone was already seated, and she joined them.

''Are you still going for the job interview?''

Edward asked Miriam and she nodded her head in agreement, and everyone continued eating in silence. When they were done, Miriam took the dishes to the kitchen and came back to go to her room when Edward called out to her and told her to come sit beside him.

''I'm very sorry you have to work, it's just that since we lost our parents, it has been difficult for me to feed everyone. I wish.......''

Miriam held his hand and squeezed it gently. He stared at her in the eyes and pulled her close, giving her a tight hug as tears ran down his eyes. Miriam gently stroked his back and said,

'' I know things are very difficult for us now, but I will do my best to help out''

Edward broke the hug and cleaned his eyes then said to her,

''Thank you so much, I promise that once I get a good job, you will stop working''

Miriam nodded her head and said to him,

''Alright, I am going to my room now so I can prepare, see you later''

Edward smiled faintly and said,

''Do have a nice day''

Miriam went back to her room and burst into tears, she picked up a picture from her room table. It was a picture of her complete family. She put it on her chest and said with a somber voice,

''Mom, Dad, I miss you''

Then she lay on the bed and closed her eyes.

Sophia quietly opened Miriam's door and saw her sleeping, she smiled and came closer, and sat at the edge of the bed. She took the picture gently from Miriam and kept it on the table, then she gently stroked her hair. This woke Miriam up and she sat up,

''Hey Sophia, anything the matter, I didn't know when you came in''

''No dear, just wanted to remind you that your interview will...........''

''Shit!!!!!!''

Miriam screamed as she rushed to grab her tower, then she said with a shaky voice,

''Honestly, I forgot''

Sophia stood up, went to her where she was trying to get her soap, took her hand, and said,

''Listen, honey, you don't have to go if you can't handle it''

''No, I can, I promise''

She rushed into the bathroom to have her bath while Sophia went to get some dress for her. when she came out, she dressed up and looked herself up in the mirror then turned to Sophia,

''How do I look?''

'' Perfect sweetheart''

Then she came closer and put a necklace around her neck, then they looked in the mirror,

''Baby, are you sure you can handle this?''

Miriam turned around and held Sophia by the shoulder,

''Sophia listen up, I know you guys don't want me to work but I'm 22, I can help out, I will make sure I get this job, I will''

Sophia hugged her tight as tears ran down her cheeks. Then she faced her and kissed her forehead,

''Promise me you will be careful baby''

''I promise''

''Alright, bye, be careful baby''

Miriam took her documents from her reading table and left the house. She stood by the roadside waiting for a cab when a car drove past her and splashed dirty water on her. Miriam screamed as she looked at her body, the car drove back, and the back door window glass rolled down then a handsome guy looked at it and said,

''Why don't you get out of the road''

Miriam gasped and looked herself over then looked at the man with a red face, she pointed at the man and swore at him,

''If not that I'm running late to an interview, I would have broken your legs''

She ran off cursing out loud. The guy kept looking at her with shock on his face as she walked away, his driver looked in the rear mirror and said to him,

'' Boss, should we take care of her?''

''No, let her go''

Miriam hurried into the company with her dirty clothes, people looked at her and she hid her face with a magazine. She thought of all the styles she could use to end the rude guy's life. She was lost in thought when she heard her name,

''Miss Miriam Dior?''

She quickly stood up and the lady looked her up and slowly said,

''You can come in''

She adjusted her dress and went into the room. She closed the door behind her and turned around to greet only for her to see the guy from earlier sitting there with two other women and a guy. Her mouth dropped, and she bent her head. The guy smiled and called her forward,

''What's your name miss?''

''I am Miriam Dior, sir''

''Why are you putting on a dirty cloth to an interview?''

Miriam looked at him with a murderous face, she could feel hot blood running through her veins, she felt like jumping on him and stabbing him to death. She bit her lower lips but before she could talk, he turned to the lady sitting beside him and said,

''Dismiss the other candidates, she's hired, and she will be my secretary''

Everyone in the room stared at each other in shock but no one dared to say a word. Miriam was also confused. He stood up and walked towards her then whispered in her ears,

''I will teach you never to point a finger at strangers''

Then he walked out. Miriam turned to watch him leave, you couldn't believe the kind of nerves this man had, she turned and called the attention of the lady that took her files from her and asked,

''Excuse me ma, please who is he?''

''He is Mr. Anthony Parks, the owner of this powerful company''

Miriam's jaw dropped, she couldn't believe what she just heard,

''Excuse me ma, you mean Mr. Anthony Parks, the son of Mr. Parks, the owner of this company?''

The lady sighed and said,

''You heard me right Miss, consider it your lucky day, I don't know why he gave you the job but all I can tell you is to be serious with your job. Come early tomorrow so you will be told what to do''

The lady left and Miriam stood like a status. The other interviewers left too. Miriam walked out of the office slowly, she didn't know if she should be happy or sad, she knew she was in great trouble but couldn't lose the job either. She came out, boarded a cab, and went home.

Miriam came home looking very tired. Sophia saw her from the window and rushed to her,

''What happened to you baby, why is your face like that?''

Miriam didn't say a word, she just walked into the house and sat down on a chair. Sophia got her a glass of water and sat beside her rubbing her back. After drinking the water, Miriam looked around and asked,

''Where is Edward?''

Sophia sighed and said,

''Nathan was arrested by the cops for getting into a fight, so Edward went to the police station to bail him out''

Miriam let out a soft sigh as she rested her head on Sophia's lap,

''So, tell me, baby, what happened to your dress?''

''Nothing serious, a car splashed water on me while I was waiting for a bus''

Sophia sighed as she patted her on the head and said,

'' I wish I was there, I would have snapped the driver's neck''

Miriam laughed and Sophia smiled and asked her,

''What about the interview, did you make it on time?''

Miriam sat up and took the letter from her bag and handed it to Sophia. Sophia widened her eyes as she glanced through the letter then she hugged Miriam,

''I can't believe it, you are the Secretary to the boss, I'm very proud of you, let me go make your favorite''

Sophia stood up and rushed to the kitchen. Miriam watched her leave then rested her back on the chair and shut her eyes. The threat from the boss flashed in her mind, and she started thinking. She needed the job, but she was certain she would face a lot of trouble from the boss. She couldn't tell her family because they would tell her to quit the job. She was brought back to reality by the sound from outside, she looked and saw Nathan and Edward coming in, and she quickly wore a smile,

''Hey little princess, how was your day?''

Edward said as he came closer and kissed her forehead.

''Wasn't bad''

She replied, then went and hugged Nathan and asked him,

''Heard you got into trouble''

Nathan sighed and said,

''Yeah, but I'm fine now, all thanks to Edward who came on time but I swear, it wasn't my fault''

''Guess who is the Secretary to the boss in her office''

Sophia said as she came out of the kitchen with a plate of chicken stew. Edward and Nathan were very excited and took turns hugging Miriam then they all went to the dining room to eat. Edward looked at Miriam and said,

''I'm so happy you did it, you are just like mum, a very strong young woman''

Miriam blushed and said,

''Thank you for believing in me''

Nathan stretched his hand to get some chicken and got slapped on his hand by Sophia, he frowned as he withdrew his hand quickly and said,

''What the hell was that for Sophia?!!''

''Let the little princess eat first, I made it, especially for her not for any of you''

Sophia said with a serious face and Miriam giggled. Nathan widened his eyes in shock then smiled and quickly grabbed some chicken and ran off while Sophia ran after him cursing him,

''Don't let me catch you, you son of a bitch''

Edward and Miriam laughed and continued eating,

''When are you starting?''

Edward asked,

''Tomorrow''

''You sure you can do this?''

Miriam nodded her head gently then they ate in silence. After a while Edward said,

''Don't worry, soon I will get a good job and you will stop working''

Miriam smiled and continued eating. After eating, Miriam went back to her room and lay on the bed to take some sleep.

When she woke up in the evening, she decided to go and get some new dresses for work. She dressed up and went to Sophia's room to inform her she was going out. She opened the door and met Sophia on her bed sobbing. She went close to her and sat beside her on the bed,

''What's wrong Sophia?''

Sophia quickly cleaned her eyes and faced Miriam, then faked a smile,

''When did you get inside honey?''

''Not long, why are you crying?''

Sophia blinked her eyes as tears gathered, she smiled faintly and answered,

''Nothing dear''

Miriam got angry and stood up then said,

''Sophia, you were crying when I came in, to the extent that you didn't even know I was in, tell me what's wrong''

Sophia broke down in tears. Miriam calmed down, went close, and hugged her, she patted Sophia on the back and said,

''It is ok, stop crying please, I am sorry for yelling''

After a while, Sophia stopped crying and cleaned her nose,

''I lost my job''

She broke down in tears again while Miriam consoled her,

''Stop crying Sophia, everything will be alright''

Sophia smiled and looked at Miriam,

''You don't get it, Miriam, Edward, and I have been the only ones supporting the family, Nathan is always getting into trouble, and now you are about to start working because we failed to feed everyone, we promised Mom and Dad that we would never allow you to suffer, we.............''

Miriam placed a finger on Sophia's lips,

''It's ok sis, you guys didn't fail our parents a bit, I am no longer a kid, I can take care of myself, we can do this together''

Sophia pulled her into a hug and said,

''Thank you so much for understanding. So, where are you heading to?''

''I want to go to the clothes store and buy some new clothes for work''

''Alright, that's good, be careful sweetie, I will go to the market now and perhaps look for a job too''

''Ok, I will go then, take care''

Miriam stood up and left the room, she met Nathan in the sitting room, she tickled him, and he started laughing.

''Hey Nathan''

''Where are you going to little lady''

''To the cloth store sir''

''Alright, take care''

''You too, don't get into trouble''

Nathan pointed at her with a red face as she laughed and ran off. Miriam went down the street and took a cab to the store. She went in and started taking a look at the clothes. The prices of clothes were too expensive for her to purchase so she dropped them and headed out when she bumped into someone,

''Hey, watch where you are going''

She heard a voice say, she bent down to pick up what the man dropped,

''I'm so sorry sir, it is a.............''

She looked up and saw it was her boss. Anthony stared at her with cold eyes, she quickly stood up and handed him his books,

''I'm so sorry sir''

Anthony looked her up and walked past her, she looked at the book in her hand and ran after him,

''Sir your book''

He turned to face her,

''If I'm not mistaken, you are my new secretary?''

''Yes, I am sir''

''Then carry the book and follow me''

Miriam was surprised, the boss was very rude, and she wasn't sure if she could stop herself from killing him one day. She had no choice but to follow him at his back. Anthony went and sat on a chair and the store manager came to attend to him,

''Mr. Parks, you are welcome, how can I be of service to you?''

''Get me a suit''

''What type of suit sir?''

Anthony sighed and Frank came forward and said to the manager,

''Let's go sir''

The store manager bowed and left. Anthony looked at Miriam and asked,

''I don't see you with any clothes, what were you doing here?''

Miriam smiled shyly as she said,

''Nothing sir, I just came to take a look, will get my clothes somewhere else''

Anthony signaled to a female worker in the store, and she came and bent over to him, he whispered something in her ears and she left. After a while, she came back with four shopping bags and handed them to Miriam. When the manager brought the suit, he handed it over to Miriam then Anthony stood up and walked away and Miriam followed. When they got to his car, Frank opened the car door and Anthony entered. Miriam asked him where she should drop the bags for him, and he told Frank to collect the bag that contained the suit and they drove off. Miriam was confused about what was wrong with her boss then she decided to take a look at the items in the bags, that was when she saw that it contained female clothes, bags, and shoes. She opened her mouth in surprise, she was very happy, her boss wasn't that bad. She hurriedly boarded a cab home.

Miriam woke up early the next day to prepare for work. She brought out the clothes that her boss got for her, they were stunning, and she couldn't even compare any of them to her most beautiful clothes. She tried them on and finally settled for a yellow gown and a black jacket with a pair of black flat shoes and a yellow bag. She brushed her teeth, took her bath and dressed up then spray a perfume on her body. When she came downstairs after dressing up, her family looked at her with admiration, Sophia went to her, touching her on the cheeks, she said,

''Baby you look so beautiful''

Miriam blushed slightly, then said,

''Thank you, I will be on my way now''

Sophia held her hand and with a concerned voice she said,

''Try and eat something before leaving dear''

''No, I am already a bit late, I don't want to be fired on my first day''

They all laughed and waved at her as she left the house. She took a cab to the company, ''THE PARKS'' were boldly written in front of the company, Mr. Anthony is the richest billionaire in Louisiana, America and his company is the most powerful and richest company in America, she thanked God for making it possible for her to be there. She got out of the cab that she boarded to the office and went inside the office,

''You are Miss Miriam Dior, right?''

A lady said approaching her,

''Yes, I am''

''Please this way''

The lady said as she led the way, she took her on an elevator, and they arrived at a very large office. Miriam looked around with her eyes wide open, she had never been to such a huge office before. The lady said to her,

''This is your office, the table over there is yours, that room over there is Mr. Anthony Parks' office, if you need any information about the company, check your computer. Have a nice day''

The lady concluded and turned to leave, Miriam stopped her and asked,

''Please what's your name?''

The lady looked around then smiled at her and said,

''If you don't want to lose your job, avoid gossip''

She turned and left through the elevator. Miriam was surprised, she wondered if everyone in the company was as rude as the boss. She accepted her fate and went to her desk, she turned on her computer and went through the files in it. She was still looking at the files when the lady that brought her in and another lady came in carrying some documents, they dropped them on her table and turned to leave, she asked them what it was all about, but the first lady kept on walking, the other lady turned and gave her a sign with her hand that she will be back. Miriam glanced through the documents but couldn't understand anything. After a while, the other lady came back and introduced herself,

''Hello Miss Miriam, sorry about the attitude earlier, I am Sarah, and the other lady is Jane''

Miriam was a little surprised and asked,

''How did you know my name?''

Sarah laughed and said,

''Your name is everywhere''

Miriam raised a brow and asked,

''Wow, so is that how you all behave around here or it's just her and the boss?''

Sarah laughed and said,

''Sorry about that, Jane was the Secretary to the boss, she had feelings for the boss and being his secretary, she thought she could get him, but the boss never looked at her for once. She used her influence as the boss's secretary to order everyone in the company around''

Sarah looked around and came closer to Miriam and whispered,

''Now she's one of us''

Sarah busted into laughter, then continued,

''As if not noticing her wasn't enough, the boss took her job as the secretary and gave it to you, so I guess she's just jealous of you being close to the boss instead of her''

Miriam nodded her head as Sarah finished her story, now she understood why Jane was rude to her, Sarah came closer and said,

''Don't you think of ever falling in love with the boss, we all did and ended up heartbroken''

Miriam rolled her eyes at her, why would she fall for someone who have been rude to her? The elevator door opened, and the boss came in. He was putting on a shinning suit, his hair was neatly brushed to the side, Sarah turned red immediately and this annoyed Miriam, the boss wasn't looking anything close to handsome in her eyes, she looked at him and all she could see is the devil himself. The boss came closer and looked at Sarah who had unconsciously opened her mouth and asked her,

''What are you doing here?''

Sarah quickly brought herself together and said while scratching the back of her neck,

''Uh.... nothing sir, I just came to drop some documents for Miriam and I'm about to take my leave''

She stammered as she rushed out. Anthony looked at Miriam with a cold face and walked into his office. Miriam sat down and picked one of the documents to go through when she got a call on the telephone on her desk, she picked it up and said,

''Hello?''

''Come to my office''

Then the call dropped, she knew it was the cold voice of her boss, she stood up and went to his door, gave a gentle knock before going in, she stood beside the chair and said,

''You asked for me, sir''

''Go get me wine from the company store''

Miriam bowed and turned to leave when he said again,

''And make sure you don't leave the office till you are done with all the documents on your desk''

Miriam was amazed, she concluded in her mind that Anthony was a devil sent to earth to make her life miserable, how could he tell her not to leave the office till she was done with all the documents on her desk, documents that were more than fifty. She went to get him the wine and when she came back, she saw that the documents on her desk have increased. She went to his office and dropped the wine then turned to leave but suddenly stopped, walked back to him, and asked,

''Please sir, the documents are too much for me to go through in one day, please can I finish it tomorrow?''

Anthony poured himself a drink and then continued what he was doing on his laptop. Miriam felt insulted and ashamed. She slowly turned around and left the office. She sat behind her desk and started going through the documents, they were the company's policy, and she read until she fell asleep. When she woke up, she saw the boss sitting across her with his legs crossed and holding a newspaper. She quickly sat up and arranged the documents on her desk, the boss looked at his wristwatch and said,

''You slept for 45 minutes, that is 45,000 dollars from your salary. Miriam's eyes widened as she quickly went to him and got on her knees,

''I'm very sorry sir, please it won't happen again''

Anthony looked at her and stood up, he turned to leave when Miriam held his hand, he turned and gave her a cold look that sent cold chills down her body and she left his hand immediately and said,

''I'm sorry''

Anthony walked away as Miriam slowly stood up and went back to her seat. She opened the documents on her desk and continued reading. When it was time to go home, Sarah came up to her office and asked her if she wasn't going yet, Miriam told her she had a lot of things to do, Sarah said OK and told her she would see her tomorrow, then left. Miriam's phone rang and she saw the caller was Sophia, she picked it up and said,

''Hey Sophia''

''What's up, it's already very late, what's keeping you there?''

''I will be back soon, got a lot of stuff to handle''

''Should I come to pick you up?''

''No, I will be fine''

''Alright, please be fast and careful''

'' No problem, Sis''

Miriam ended the call and looked towards her boss's office, he was still in, so she faced her work. After a while, the boss came out and walked straight to the elevator, when he got to the door, he paused, turned around, and asked Miriam,

''Are you not going home?''

Miriam looked at him with hatred, standing before her was the man who told her not to go home unless she was done with all the documents on her desk, now he was asking her if she was not going home. Miriam replied,

''I will sir, I have not finished with the documents''

Anthony sighed and said,

''What a lazy secretary I got myself, come on, nobody is in the company again, go home but make sure you are here on time tomorrow''

Miriam quickly packed her bag as she thanked him. She rushed over to join him in the elevator, but he closed the door in her face and left. Miriam nearly exploded in anger, she angrily turned and took the stairs. When Miriam finally got home, it was very late and she met Sophia sitting at the doorstep with a flashlight, when Sophia saw Miriam coming, she rushed towards her and hugged her then said,

''What kept you so long honey?''

''I had a lot of documents to look at, you know it's my first day, so everything was new and strange''

''Next time, call us so we can come to pick you up, it's not safe outside''

Miriam nodded her head and said,

''I am sorry I got you worried''

Sophia hugged her and kissed her forehead,

''It's ok, come in, I prepared dinner, and you have to tell me everything that happened today''

The two sisters laughed and went into the house to meet the rest of the family waiting for them in the sitting room. A black car that was parked a few blocks from Miriam's house drove off.
