Chapter 1 001

Prisca's POV

With tears burning in my eyes, I kept a straight face, trying to act tough.

"...you may now kiss your bride." The priest said at the end of the vows between the couples as cheers erupted from all parts of the church.

Grabbing my gown with both hands, I dug my teeth into my lips, trying to hold back the scream that was threatening to seep out of my mouth.

It was too much for me to bear and no matter how I tried to keep cool about it, I just couldn't.

Excited with the prospect of getting married to my college sweetheart, I did my last shopping the previous night in anticipation of my married life with Xavier Raiden, my fiancé, only to return home to meet devastating news.

Thinking it was a prank to get on my nerves, I shrugged it off not until this morning when Nyx stepped into my wedding gown.

"It wasn't a prank, it's real." I mumbled, wiping my eyes with the back of my palm.

In a bid to stop my tears from blinding my vision, I blinked my eyes but I failed at it as tears rolled down my eyes in torrents as my heart threaded into minute pieces.

"Oh dear! I know you're going to miss your sister but this phase is certain to come in everyone's life." Step Mother, who was sitting next to me said as she handed a napkin to me which I received at once, muttering my thanks.

At this point, all I needed was just one person to listen to my cries and rectify this. I just needed a person to stand as an advocate for me.

The cheers and hearty laughter of the guests were not helping matters as I felt myself floating on space.

To compound my problems, Xavier and Nyx turned around and then began to walk through the aisle to the car waiting for them just outside the building.

The smile on the couples face made me squirm on my seat as I clenched my fists by my side. They looked so happy like the newlyweds they really were.

I'm supposed to be in Nyx's place. Xavier was supposed to be by my side, holding hands with me as we walked down the aisle, into the new life we had always dreamt of.

Xavier Raiden, a multi millionaire with chains of companies all over the nation, had been my fiancé for six months.

Those six months had been fun filled for me as we learnt about each other only to get proposed to on my birthday which I accepted without thinking twice.

When Nyx, my little sister, learnt of it, she was furious. She told me a whole lot of things about Xavier, from being a pervert to being uncaring and not loving but that didn't deter me since he had never shown me that part of him.

Deep down, I knew it was jealous speaking and so I didn't bother to pick up a fight with her.

If only I knew she had an ulterior motive, I wouldn't have said anything about our relationship but it was too late to cry over spilled milk.

Shutting my eyes, I took a deep breath as I pulled myself up.

If I spent a minute more here, I wouldn't be able to control myself so I had to leave.

Getting home since I didn't want to be a part of the party taking place in Valero's Garden, my choice place for reception, I began to take my clothes off the rack.

My family betrayed me, who knows what they will do next.

Done with my packing, I took a look at my now empty room and after forcing a little smile, I began to pull my luggage, struggling under the weight of it.

Just when I was about to pull the door open, the door flung open, causing me to step backwards and my parents stepped in.

"Where are you going?" It was my mother who broke the silence in the living room.

"I'm leaving." I replied, my tone hoarse as a result of crying for too long.

"Come on Prisca, you should get a grip of yourself." Father said, trying to touch me but I pulled away with my face scrunched up in disgust.

"We understand how you feel dear and we are sorry for not informing you in time."

Smiling bitterly at them, two large tears rolled down my cheeks as I replayed how the news was broken to me last night.

Grabbing the handle of my box even more tightly, I tried to take a step but father stopped me.

"We did what was right" He said, causing my anger to skyrocket and just when I was about to yell at him, he said, "There is a replacement."

Just like their words sounded strange to me the previous day, this also sounded strange as I scrunched up my brows in confusion.

"Yes Prisca, your father and I didn't intend to leave you stranded after giving Nyx to Xavier instead."

Mother paused for a few minutes before saying, "Xavier and Nyx are the perfect couples and with their collaboration... they will build a bigger company..."

"Enough!" I yelled, stamping my feet against the floor in fury.

"I'm not interested in whatever reason you have to offer, I'm leaving." I pulled my luggage but father appeared in front of me, trying to calm me down.

"Come on Khloe..." He kept on saying the same thing repeatedly.

Somehow, my parents won me over and I found myself sitting on the couch, my luggage still by my side, waiting for the slightest opportunity to scurry off.

"Where is he?" Mother asked father when he returned from the kitchen where he had gone to receive a call and to get me a glass of water too.

"Here," He said to me and since I was famished, I downed the whole content in a go.

"A minute more." He replied as I began to shake my legs in impatience.

Just when I was about to voice out a complaint, my father hurried towards the door and then he pulled it open for an elderly man in a wheelchair to be rolled in.

"Here he is, Calvin Johan." Mother was so excited that I couldn't help but to wonder why.

Chapter 2 002

Prisca's POV

Now in the middle of the living room where I sat, father stood behind me and from his tone, I knew he was grinning.

"Here she is." He said, squeezing my shoulders as I stared in confusion.

"What is going on here?" I gave father a quick look before shifting my gaze to mother who was grinning widely.

"What is going on?" I partly yelled, my gaze now fixed on the old man who was staring back at me like he was observing a piece for auction.

"Prisca dear, Calvin Johan here is a replacement for Xavier." Mother said only for me to burst into laughter since her words sounded funny.

Still giggling, father hit my side, "Don't be rude." He chided and at once a frown appeared on my face.

"I never asked for a godfather mother. Who the fuck is this old man on wheel chair for crying out loud?"

"Prisca, mind your language." Father chided.

"You're speaking to your husband." Mother spoke this time around and at once I fell on the couch with a thud, my head getting light.

"What are you talking about?" I gulped when I finally found my tongue to speak.

"Calvin Johan here is also a billionaire and richer than Xavier. He will give you everything you need... a child from you will earn you half of his wealth and..."

"You're insane!" I don't care if I was speaking to my father because at this point, he and mother have lost all the respect I had for them.

Who in his sane sense will hand over their twenty three year old daughter to a septuagenarian?

"I love you Prisca and I know you are going to reciprocate that love." Calvin Johan said, making me turn around to face him.

With disgust written all over my face, I wanted to walk up to him to wipe the smile off his face but I held back from doing so.

After a few minutes of silence and with my hands wrapped across my chest, I asked, "By any chance, why are you on a wheelchair?"

"He is a cripple." Mother said and at once I ran mad with anger.

Dammit!

No! This can't be true.

It must be one of my weird dreams and not reality.

"Come on Prisca! Within a year, you are going to be a millionaire and will even be competing with Xavier in the business world. All you need to do is to give him a child, nothing more."

"Okay! I get the point you are making now." I muttered, my anger getting even more intense as my whole body shook.

Now seated on the couch with my fingers folded, I was staring at my feet, my head swirling with a thousand and one ideas all at once.

"I know you are going to accept me." Calvin Johan said and at once I shot him a glare, quickly switching it to a smile which he reciprocated, showing off his stained teeth from too much tobacco.

"Let's get down to business." Father was excited but before he could pull me into his frenzy, I snapped my head in his direction.

"Father," I called, my tone mild and alluring.

"Yes dear."

"Can I use the bathroom; I will be back as soon as possible." I had to feign being in pain to convince him I needed to leave.

"You can take your time my wife." Calvin Johan said with a little chuckle.

My response to this was to yell at him but I was quick to caution myself. I couldn't afford to miss my chance to escape, otherwise I was doomed.

Now in my bedroom, I quickly shut the door and walking on my tip toes, I made my way to my window with a little bottle of acid I had picked up from the storehouse on my way.

With shaking hands, I proceeded to pour generous quantities on the bars, thereby eroding them.

With the bar now out of the way, I got on the window pane and then leapt out of the window to the grass which served as a cushion to me.

Before now, jumping from a storey building was impossible for me but with the situation I found myself in, it was easy peasy.

Without wasting time, I got on my heels, making sure I doubled my pace because it wouldn't be long before they found out what I had done.

Now in the street which was illuminated with neon lights and the headlights of cars, I sighted a public bathroom at the other side of the road and at once I crossed over.

Switching my clothes with that of a lady who was currently using the bathroom, I quickly put it on and then went ahead to smear a bit of dirt on my face.

Since my parents were desperate to get me married to that old man, I had to change my look; else it wouldn't be long before they spotted me in the street.

My hair which was always brushed and lying on my back, I tied it up in a bun, interlocking the edges to make it look like I was indeed homeless.

Satisfied with my new look, I hurried out of the bathroom and then returned to the street.

I had no idea where I was heading but that was the least of my concerns. Once I've escaped fully, I will definitely find a place to rest my head.

"Hey you, stop there." A masculine voice yelled and at once I swirled around only to see the men who had followed Calvin Johan to our home a few feet away.

Running off was my first response but I stood still, waiting for what was going to happen next.

To my surprise, he and the others walked past me like I wasn't even there and then went ahead to accost another lady who was ahead of me.

Exhaling in relief, I pushed my hand into my hair only to see the men returning in my direction and without looking at the road, I ran in.

And at once, an incoming vehicle swept me off my feet.

Chapter 3 003

Jason's POV

Leaning against the wall, I used a hand to support my head and then placed the other on my waist as I alternated my weight from one foot to the other.

Last night, I was on my way to a function only for this street girl to run into my vehicle and now I was ladened with the responsibility of looking after her.

At the function, I was supposed to meet with my contracted wife and seal the agreement between both families.

This wasn't my choice; rather it was my father who had pushed me to the edge of the cliff, saying I had to get married before I took over the family businesses.

Ever since my first breakup back at high school, I lost interest in relationships and now I had to return to one just because I was a conglomerate heir.

A few minutes later, the doctor walked in with a file which I quickly flipped open, not as if I understood x-rays.

"No broken bones, she is neurological fit." He said and I exhaled in relief, taking in a deep breath.

Now left with her, I sat on the edge of the bed, my gaze fixed on her as I watched her chest rising and falling in rhythm.

Mesmerized by her beauty, I moved from the edge of the bed only to crouch next to her as I began to loosen the knot of her hair.

When I was done with this, I proceeded to clean the dirt smear on her face with a wet towel. I was about to take off her clothing and get her changed into one of my t-shirts since it reeked of dirt only for an ear splitting scream to stop me.

In a bid to defend herself, she took my hand into her mouth and then dug her teeth into it with no mercy.

When she finally let go, I staggered backwards as I seethed in pain while she watched with her big doe eyes.

"Are you insane?" I yelled at her.

"I should be the one asking you that." She slammed back as she went on her fours.

Instead of getting angrier at her, I shook my head to the side and then made my way out of the room.

On my return, she was looking around like she was on a tour but the moment she saw me, she kept a straight face.

"Here," I placed the tray containing a freshly cooked meal by her side and with my hand tucked inside of my pocket, I stepped aside.

She didn't make a move; rather, she was stamping her feet against the bed, humming a rhyme to herself.

Getting the message she wanted to pass across, I left the room but I remained in the corridor, watching her through the peephole.

She ate with so much appetite and soon I found myself smiling but I was quick to snap myself back.

We haven't even had a conversation, the circumstances surrounding our meeting weren't pleasant, yet I felt myself being drawn to her.

Pacing around the hallway with my hands tucked in my hair, I tried to push the thoughts that were ringing in my head off but I just couldn't.

Unable to keep my thoughts still anymore, I pushed the door in, only to get lost in her doe eyes which were staring back at me.

Closing the gap between us, I tried as hard as I could not to scare her but the look on her face wouldn't soften.

"I'm Jason Kaiser." I said, pushing my hand forward for a friendly handshake but she shifted her gaze away.

"I'm sorry I didn't read the room." Biting my lower lips in frustration, I rose and then made my way towards the door.

Just when I was about to grab the knob, I turned around to face her, "I will be heading out for a meeting and when I get back, we have a lot to talk about." I wasn't expecting a response from her but when she didn't, I felt bad but I didn't mention it to her.

Once I was in the hallway, I gestured to a maid who came running to me.

Nodding at the closed door, I said, "Look after her, I'm stepping out for a bit."

Nodding, she replied, "Yes sir." And then took her leave while I headed to my room.

As if on a cue, I had just stepped in when my phone began to buzz on my study desk.

Hurrying towards it, I thought it was my secretary trying to reach out to me in regards to the meeting in an hour but it turned out to be father.

Bracing myself for a sermon, I received the call.

"Father!" I groaned.

"Don't give me that tone, young man." He snarled. "You were supposed to be at the function last night, what happened? You couldn't even call to pass a message..."

"I got into an accident last night." I cut in. This was my only card and I had to play it without any delay.

"Accident? How did it happen? Tell me, where are you now?" He asked all in a millisecond.

"I'm home." I mumbled as I pushed my hand into my hair. "I hit someone, and I had to fix it..." I filtered off, my eyes slightly shut as I made my way towards the window.

"I asked you to get a driver but you wouldn't listen..." Father didn't stop there, he went on and on with his lashing that I regretted telling him what had happened.

Father was still ranting when my gaze fell on a figure making its way towards the gate.

It was no other person but the girl from last night.

"I will call you back." I said to my father and without giving him the chance to speak, I hung up.

Dialing the contact of the security personnel at the gate, I placed my phone against my ear, "Permit her to leave." I said, a smirk dancing on my lips.
