Chapter 1 Caught In Between The Duo

Elsa's POV

I clutched tightly my light weight box to my thumping heart as I arrived at the mansion. My father's gentle plea echoed through my thoughts.

"Just two months Elsa, endure till I return baby."

I felt a teardrop drizzle down my cheek, and stopped it halfway with the back of my palm. I slightly raised my pleated maxi skirt and walked confidently into the grey painted building despite feeling the opposite.

"State your business here."

I heard a cold voice throw the word at me and my mustered confidence dwindled, replaced by a fear of the unknown. I know next to nothing about the Davidsons, except that they are stinkingly wealthy and influential.

Rich enough to give my father and I the average life we live despite him being a mere driver.

"I...I came...I am Elsa Williams, Patrick William's daughter, he told...."

I haven't concluded the word when the gate opened on its own, I was mesmerized. I didn't see anyone as I walked my way closer to the front door. Despite the gigantism of the compound, it looked deserted,

Or so I thought.

I was about to knock on the glassdoor when it miraculously opened on its own.

So maleficent! I was hooked.

I was amazed the moment I stepped foot into the house, the seemingly deserted house was bubbling with about thirteen people dressed in check aprons cleaning, laundering, arranging and other chores. But one thing baffled me,

They all pretended I was invisible until...

"Oh there you are darling, you must be Patrick's daughter,"

I nodded in affirmation as the strange robust woman said in a fancy accent.

"Move down the hallway ahead, the third room by the left is yours, take a rest."

Before I could appreciate or question her, she had moved ahead from me and dejectedly I staggered forward towards the long hallway as she described. To my astonishment, I couldn't find the rooms yet until I stumbled upon an ugly sight.

A grown man in blue underpants with his erection bulging out.

I was flustered and looked away instantly.I heard him chuckle softly. He didn't seem embarrassed by it. Instead, he walked past me and I couldn't help but wonder if he was mentally deranged walking naked in broad daylight in a house filled with people.

I finally found the rooms and counted till the third. I joyously made up for it when he passed by me again. I turned slightly to catch a glimpse of his face, and sadly.

Our eyes met.

All I saw staring back at me was disdain, so I looked away instantly and turned the doorknob. I dropped my bag refusing to relish in the excitement of how spacious and beautifully decorated my room was.I would have rather preferred our small apartment than waking up to stumbling upon a naked man.

I could swear I heard moans from the room next to mine, but I wasn't great at eavesdropping, so instead, I settled down my box and started unpacking. The closet was too big for my meager clothes, so I just arranged everything in one section.

A loud banging sound accompanied by loud female moans filled my ears and I cursed inwardly. My father will be guilt-ridden if he hears about this. I will just have to be careful, that is all. I concluded inwardly as I lay hopelessly bored on the large bed.

"Gruuuuuu"

The grumbling sound of my stomach raised me up. I guess I overestimated my importance waiting to have my dinner served in bed or maybe a call up, I didn't want to be forward.

I held it in for another hour but it never came, so I decided to abandon my fear of rejection and left the room. I walked down the hallway on my way to the dining room when I stumbled upon someone.

The same delinquent from earlier, fully dressed in a black suit and a gleaming pair of black shoes. I scoffed inwardly as my eyes met his, something about his eyes held my attention.

He motioned his hand forward and I took the cue, I made way for his passage with a gentle apology, what happened next irked me,

He smiled warmly at me.

He must definitely be suffering from dissociative personality disorder, I concluded as I walked out on him.

For the first time, I ate my least favorite porridge with enthusiasm. My taste buds swelled and I found myself eating in bits to avoid it being eaten up quickly.

How on earth was it possible ?

It tasted so heavenly, the exact opposite of what my life story feels like right now. After lunch, I made it back to my room just in time to see that man shabbily dressed in baggy crazy cut jeans and transparent shirts that left nothing of his bicep to imagination.

I was torn between exchanging pleasantries politely with him or ignoring him totally, but he shifted his attention slightly to me, all I could see was blatant full blown disdain.

"If you were sent here to seduce me wearing that! You have failed."

"What?"

I turned slightly to take a second look at his face and my dress. I was dressed in a maxi covered dress, so trying to seduce a man seemed absurd, and who the hell is this saucy bastard anyways?

And did I just hear him chuckle mockingly again!

"Stop it Jethro, she is a guest, treat her with some respect." I heard the word from the room adjacent to the man Jethro whose name I just learnt.

"You do not get to tell me what to do Jarvis!"

The other room door opened and wonderment filled my heart at my new discovery.

I was faced with two men of the same facial features, but obviously contrasting personalities.

How come father never gave me head-up on this one?

I watched in awe as one of them walked out of the hallway, the other smiled warmly at me and waved slightly.

At that moment, I knew it.

I was hooked, and I knew I had just walked into the burning pit of hell.

Chapter 2 Wish I Never Knew

Elsa's POV

I watched him passed by looking pale and exhausted. Every fiber in my body wished to question his loss of vibrance, but I couldn't, because,

It was none of my business.

My first week spent at the Davidson mansion had passed by in a frenzy, and everyday seemed like a mere repetition of the previous day. To keep myself occupied, I joined in some house chores against the head maid's wish, but boredom wouldn't let me listen to her.

Doing some laundry while humming my favourite song keeps me alive and away from my troubled heart. Jethro and Jarvis, the Davidson identical twins as I know their names now still didn't spare me a proper welcome, except the occasional disdainful gaze from Jethro and warm smile from Jarvis.

But I couldn't care anymore, two months is going to be over soon, isn't it?

I couldn't shake off my curiosity when Jarvis lost even that smile of his towards me, he ignores me completely now. I couldn't fathom why but I guess I was overestimating myself earlier, a mere driver's daughter has no significance to a rich heir.

But I was wrong, the heir has problems of his own.

I found out coincidentally around dinnertime when I returned earlier than usual to my room, he was on a phone call, his voice was shaky showing freely his vulnerable heart.

"I do not need your insincere apology."

He sounded so harsh that I almost thought it was Jethro from his rear.

"Your wedding invitation was well accepted, congratulations, but I will past attending."

He turned just in time to face me, he was startled, and so was I. Jarvis didn't spare me another glance, he walked up to his room and slammed the door.

I made for my room putting together the pieces of the puzzle, but it still didn't align. I distracted my mind from my curiosity, filling it with enthusiasm as I picked up my calendar and marked the day out. In a month and a few weeks, I will be out of this hellhole.

Because it didn't feel like a home.

I contemplated calling my father to check up on him when a banging sound at the door held me back. My heart skipped a beat, nobody had knocked on my door since my arrival at the mansion.

I tightened up the hem of my skirt and confidently walked to the door. I turned the doorknob in time to have it turned on the other end by a brunette haired young lady who stuck her neck inside immediately.

"Sorry for barging in on you, can I get a tampon?"

My eyelids doubled and I was taken aback, not because her request was absurd for a stranger, but for the fact that she was only in her underpants and her bare breasts were in my face. Her rounded nipple looked like they were bruised.

"You care to help? Or maybe not?"

I recalled myself and walked back into the room. I overlooked her rudeness and returned with two unused tampons. She didn't bother to appreciate it and turned back towards Jethro's room.

I kept watching in amazement until I saw Jethro walk out of the room to meet the brunette haired lady halfway and I slammed the door shut. I couldn't afford to lock eyes with him when I knew he hates my gut.

I overheard them argue, a part of me felt unnecessary guilt probably because I thought the girl was going to get herself physically abused. To my surprise, then came silence. I slightly opened my door to check if the coast was clear, but an ungodly sight graced my eyes.

They were kissing, right there in the open.

I closed my door immediately, but I heard them laughing hysterically. I could tell that I was caught and that embarrassed me more. I sat on the bed and teared up really badly, enough to soak my dress just as I did on the day I had to move into the mansion.

More days passed without phone calls from my father, he only occasionally sends me short messages to tell me they were doing fine on the trip with Mr Jake Davidson.

But here I was enduring so much.

Enduring the constant ungodly moans from Jethro's room every night, the two brothers woe towards me, the loneliness.

I could have tried making friends with the domestic workers but unfortunately, they do not reside in the mansion and their quarters are quite far from the main building. I spend most of my time buried in books or house chores but today, I didn't feel like doing anything.

I opened my room door slightly and looked through, but I was met with silence. I tiptoed to the end of the hallway and I saw what warmed my heart for the first time since I walked into the mansion.

A back garden filled with different flowers, I wanted to make my way to the garden when a disapproving voice called from behind me.

"That is out of bound for you."

I turned just in time to see Jethro up close behind me, i felt my heartbeat race, since when had he been lurking around and watching me from the shadows?

He was so close, too close for my comfort, our faces only inches apart. I had an up close view of his eyes, they were bloodshot as expected, the only visible difference between him and his twin. I couldn't fathom why, but something about the dangerous glint in his eyes screamed loudly a warning to me.

"Run!"

But I didn't bulge, not out of confidence, but I couldn't. He intimidates me just with mere looks, I felt like the wisdom of words and actions had eluded me. He raised my chin slightly with his left finger searching my face. I just stood there like a rag doll waiting to be devoured.

"You are beautiful up close, I didn't know that."

"Hurr!!!"

Now the asshole seems to be hitting on me.

Aren't I trapped in this dark corner now?

Chapter 3 We Saw It Together

Elsa's POV

Tension built up in me.

I backed away from him and he released my chin. We locked eyes, and unsaid messages passed between us, I waited for his next move hoping desperately that my scream would be loud enough to stop him.

But it never came, his expected move.

He just walked out on me yawning lazily, I felt my heart steadied as I watched his departing back, the tension in the air subsided, and I felt foolish for thinking that grossly of him.

Jethro was rough around the edges but I don't think he would be brazen enough to molest me. I could still feel the shaking of my hand and feet. I could barely move them, I managed to make it back to my room learning my lesson the hard way possible.

"There are out of bound areas in the mansion, do not go there."

I scolded my subconscious mind and collapsed on the soft bed. My mind was laced with thoughts that it shouldn't, how hard I have worked to keep my virginity intact, i wasn't going to end up a plaything for a yapping jerk like him.

The noon sun had intensified outside, and I think it was the best time for a quick laundry. I picked up my few soiled clothes and house napkins that I had gathered the previous day and made for the laundry room.

It was as big as our entire house put together, but I couldn't care less, all that matters was where my peace could be profound. I sat on a comfy stool and started hand washing my clothes while humming my favourite song. I felt my spirit lifted as usual.

The strong intensity that the song carried got me overthrown, I poured my emotions into the song and felt the rhythms fall in line. Bliss filled me while my hand worked itself on the cloth stains earnestly.

"Hi."

I turned to see Jarvis looking down at me with a soft smile, I was amazed, only that this time, his smile carried a hint of sadness embedded in it.

***

Jarvis's POV

"Hi," I had said to her, I felt something twisted in her gaze as if I had caught her in the middle of a wrong deed, but she tried to mask it.

"Sorry to intrude, may I sit with you?"

I questioned her politely. Elsa seemed to be dazed by my words that it took her some seconds before she nodded in approval. I had jolted up from a nightmare, but her soothing voice brought me out of my misery, so I decided I might need more of her company.

"I am sorry about our attitude toward you, I mean my brother and I since you came into the mansion."

I saw a glint passed by her eyes.

"You have a lot to apologize for on that one."

Wow! She was feisty too, I like that.

I drew the conversation in deeper, deep enough to take away the pain of knowing that my ex- girlfriend was at the altar right now taking a wedding vow with another man.

She had slammed the betrayal in my face earlier that week, a wedding invitation card with her name on it when I was right in the middle of sealing a multi billion dollar deal.

Cruel one!

Elsa's shyness melted away, as did my formality. I drew the question more inclined towards her and Interestingly, she gave constructive responses that decimated her intelligence.

I questioned suspiciously why she had to move to the mansion as my father never mentioned anything about it except his travel with his driver who was Elsa's father. I had returned home that day to see the gloomy looking lady and I noticed she was already getting on Jethro's wrong side.

She looked so stunning and simple that I couldn't deny my instant attraction to her personality. But I drew back, I had to, my girlfriend was a jealous lover, and she wouldn't be pleased to see me close to any female, or so I thought, until she shoved her surprise wedding in my face.

Elsa told me their rent expired, and the father was looking for money to complete the payment when my dad told him about their trip. So he had to beg my dad to bring her to come stay at the mansion prior their return, so as not to be thrown out of the apartment or get her hurt by anyone.

"Enough about me, is anything the problem with you, you seemed gloomy lately."

I felt my heart melt, she had noticed me! When everyone else thought I had a perfect life, when no one checked up on me except to transact business, when even my twin brother didn't give a crap.

"Yeah, a betrayal that ran deep happened to me."

"Oh! I am sorry about that."

The word had barely left Elsa's mouth when my ears caught it,

A feminine soft moan! It intensified dramatically, and I couldn't help but swallow hard, embarrassed by it all. My foolish brother couldn't keep his brothel business out, now his whores have the guts to walk in and out of the mansion due to our father's prolonged absence.

I could hear Jethro urging on the woman, and I closed my eyes frustrated, I let out a deep breath and opened them again,I turned to face Elsa whose eyes were already on mine.

My face flustered, and so did hers.

Coincidentally, we both laughed awkwardly and looked away for a few seconds, she turned to face me again and we both laughed heartily.

"Can we be friends?"

I asked her quickly, I knew it was impulsive of me but she seemed to be different, she wasn't desperate to want me just as most women in my circle does. The Davidson's wealth had been a shield for me all these while, so I figured it was time to make a change.

"Mr Davidson i...."

"Call me Jarvis, that is what friends....."

"I cannot be your friend Jarvis, I am...."

"No, you have to be my friend Elsa,"

"Why?" She questioned suspiciously.

"Because....." I started slowly, and faced her pouring out all my emotions to my next sentence.
