Chapter 1 Unplanned Events at Dinner - Amber's POV

The air in the room of my little home was thick with tension and I couldn't help but feel a sense of loneliness while the sun peeked through the blinds, casting a faint glow over the small town of Graven. Nestled in the heart of a picturesque valley, the small town of Graven boasts an idyllic charm that instantly captures the hearts of newcomers. Its cobblestone streets wind through a forest of ancient oak trees, their branches creating a comforting overhead canopy. Warm and welcoming, the people of Graven, greet each other with smiles and visitors with open arms.

In the heart of this charming but enigmatic town, one cannot help but wonder if the friendly smiles hide more than they reveal.

Beneath the facade of tranquillity, lies a web of closely guarded secrets as whispers and hushed conversations echo through the town's quaint cafes. The locals gossip about the recent scandal in town, often livened with words of hurtful gossip and ridicule towards me but their faces are laced with smiles. In the heart of this charming but enigmatic town, I couldn't help but wonder if the friendly smiles hide more than they reveal.

I'm not like other girls my age. My raven-black hair frames my porcelain face, and my eyes, a shade of deep forest green, hold an aura of warmth and courage within. I've always felt special but I could never quite wrap my head around the reason for such belief. I'm a young and ambitious woman who just turned 24, eagerly preparing for my dream wedding with my fiancé, Paul Fisher. Everything seemed perfect in my life up until a week before the wedding when Paul abruptly called off the engagement during our pre-wedding dinner and my world came crashing down right before my eyes. It felt just like yesterday when I was happily drinking and enjoying dinner with my friends to celebrate our future home.

**Night of the Dinner**

''I'm so excited for you to meet my old friends from college tonight.'' I said, gushing at another dress the girls will be wearing to the dinner.

''I know, you've been saying it for weeks now, Amber.'' Paul mumbled from where he was on the couch.

''We would have been able to meet them if you came along with me this afternoon.'' I replied while trying to see what he was doing to my cat again.

We had been preparing for our pre-wedding dinner for two weeks and although Paul wanted a small intimate wedding, my friends kept clamouring to come making us change our plans.

''I just wanted us to enjoy some time together, besides I don't know them.'' Paul said.

''You know Rose, and you could have invited your friends if you feel it would be too girly for you.'' I answered, saving our poor cat from his clutches.

''Let's just have a short dinner okay? You know we have to meet the Mayor tomorrow.'' His words reminded me of the town's mayor I had only met a handful of times despite growing up in the little town.

''I know, we'll just eat dinner, and talk, and the girls will be going back to their hotel.'' I was already feeling regretful of the fact I couldn't join them for the nightlife, but I understand certain sacrifices should be made when getting married.

''We've been through so much together, and it feels just like yesterday we started planning this life.'' gently holding my hands he said. I noticed he had been a little distant lately, but I'm sure it's the stress from all the wedding preparations.

*Doorbell rings*

I opened the door to welcome my friends, who were all smiles and ready for the pre-wedding dinner.

''Amber! We can't believe your big day is almost here!'' Sarah said excited.

''I'm so happy you all could make it. It means the world to me.'' I replied, ushering everyone in with a light smile.

''You look radiant, girl! We're going to have a blast tonight.'' Rose said while hugging me on her way in. She paused for a moment, but I just ignored it.

''We've missed you so much, Amber. It's been way too long.'' Jane, the group clown, said while laughing on her way in.

''I've missed you all, too. Let's make tonight unforgettable.'' I replied, leading everyone to the dinner table where Paul was already waiting.

I heard Rose introducing herself to Paul, and I was happy they were already getting comfortable in my little home. As I walked into the dining room with Jane and Sarah, I noticed a weird energy in the air. Extending her hands with a warm smile, Rose greeted Paul: ''Hi, I'm Rose. You must be Paul, Amber talks a lot about you.''

''Yes, that's me. It's great to finally meet you, Rose.'' I noticed he held her hands for too long, and I began to feel worried.

Paul was introduced to each of Amber's friends and he greeted them warmly, shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries. He tried to engage in conversation with them discussing their shared memories with Amber and expressing his excitement about the upcoming wedding.

Amber's friends in turn, were welcoming and happy to meet the man who had captured their friend's heart. They engaged in friendly banter, sharing anecdotes from their college days and relishing in the joy of reuniting with Amber.

As the night wore on, the atmosphere seemed to lighten, and the tension that had hung in the air earlier began to dissipate. Paul's efforts to connect with Amber's friends were successful and the group started to enjoy the evening more.

Amber couldn't help but feel relieved that her friends and Paul were getting along. Her initial worries had subsided, and she was able to focus on the joy of the occasion. The night had taken an unexpected turn, but it seemed to be back on track.

**As the rest entered, they exchanged stories and laughter, and shared their excitement for my upcoming wedding, blissfully unaware of the impending disasters. **

Chapter 2 Broken Dreams - Amber's POV

ChAs the pre-wedding dinner continued, I couldn't shake the unease that had settled in the pit of my stomach. The laughter and stories shared between my friends and Paul were overshadowed by a lingering feeling that something was amiss.

I watched Rose and Paul converse with a familiarity that sent chills down my spine. Their smiles and shared glances were laden with a connection that went beyond mere friendship. I desperately tried to push these thoughts aside, but they gnawed at me like a persistent itch.

Dinner progressed, and I found myself lost in my thoughts, the words and laughter around me turning into a distant hum. I wondered if I was overreacting, if my insecurities were getting the best of me. After all, Paul had assured me that there was nothing to worry about and Rose was a dear friend.

As the evening wore on, I couldn't ignore the feeling that I was on the outside looking in as if I were witnessing a connection between Paul and Rose that was meant to be mine.

I excused myself from the table and made my way to the bathroom. As I looked at my reflection in the mirror, I couldn't recognize the woman staring back at me. The glow of happiness that had once radiated from my eyes had dimmed, replaced by a deep sadness.

Tears welled up in my forest-green eyes and I couldn't stop them from spilling down my cheeks. I felt like a fool, a jilted bride-to-be who was letting her imagination run wild but the pain was real and I couldn't deny the sinking feeling in my heart.

I took a few deep breaths to compose myself, determined not to let my emotions ruin this evening. When I returned to the dining room, I put on a brave smile and joined the conversation.

The night continued with more laughter and shared memories but I couldn't shake the feeling that my world was unravelling. I wanted to confront Paul and Rose, to demand an explanation for the unease they had caused but I couldn't bring myself to do it in front of our friends.

As the evening drew to a close, I watched my friends say their goodbyes, their excitement for my wedding still palpable but my heart was heavy with doubt and fear.

Once our friends had left, I turned to Paul, my voice trembling. "Paul, can we talk?" I asked, trying to keep my emotions in check.

He looked at me concern in his eyes. "Of course, Amber. What's on your mind?"

I led him to the living room, away from prying eyes.

"Paul, I couldn't help but notice your connection with Rose tonight. It's been bothering me and I need to know the truth."

Paul's expression shifted, his features a mixture of guilt and uncertainty. "Amber, I didn't want to bring this up tonight but I think it's time you know the truth."

The words hung in the air and my heart pounded in my chest. "The truth about what Paul?"

He took a deep breath, his voice heavy with regret. "Amber, Rose and I were in a relationship, it didn't work out and I thought I had moved on but seeing her again tonight brought back old feelings and I don't think I can go through with the wedding."

Tears welled up in my eyes as the weight of his words settled in. My world had indeed shattered, and the future I had dreamed of was slipping through my fingers.

Paul's revelation about his past with Rose had left me feeling broken and betrayed. I couldn't believe that he had kept such a significant secret from me, especially so close to our wedding day. The pain of his confession cut deep, and I struggled to find words to respond.

Finally, I managed to speak, my voice trembling with a mix of anger and sadness. "You were in a relationship with Rose before you met me and you never told me? How could you keep something like that from me, Paul?"

He looked at the floor unable to meet my gaze. "I know I should have told you earlier Amber, but I didn't realize the Rose you always talked about was her. I was afraid it would hurt you and I wanted to put that part of my life behind me but seeing her again tonight brought back a flood of emotions and I can't deny that I still have feelings for her."

I felt a knot in my stomach tighten as I processed his words. "So, what are you saying, Paul? Are you calling off our wedding?"

He sighed, his shoulders slumping. "I don't know Amber. I need time to figure things out. I can't make a decision in haste."

Tears welled up in my eyes, and I turned away from him, unable to bear the sight of the man I had loved for so long, the man who had promised to be by my side forever. "I can't believe this, Paul. You've shattered my world."

As I wiped away tears, I suddenly felt a strange sensation in the room. It was as if the air had changed, becoming charged with an inexplicable energy. I turned to Paul, my confusion evident in my eyes. "Do you feel that Paul?"

He furrowed his brow and looked around the room. "Feel what Amber?"

Before I could respond, there was a loud crash from outside, followed by a chorus of howls that sent shivers down my spine. I rushed to the window and pulled back the curtain, my heart pounding as I gazed into the darkness.

What I saw sent shockwaves of fear through me. In the moonlight, I could make out a pack of wolves, their eyes glowing with an eerie intensity. They were circling the house, their howls growing louder and more menacing.

I turned to Paul my voice trembling. "What is happening Paul? Are those wolves?"

He came to stand beside me his face pale with dread. "Amber, there's something I need to tell you. I should have been honest from the beginning. I'm not like other men. I'm a werewolf."

My heart felt like it had stopped. "A werewolf? You're joking, right?"

Paul shook his head. "No, Amber, I'm serious. I've hidden this part of myself for a long time but I can't keep it from you any longer. Those wolves outside, they're part of my pack."

I couldn't comprehend what I was hearing. My fiancé, the man I thought I knew, was telling me he was a mythical creature. It felt like I had stepped into a nightmare.

Before I could respond, a loud crash echoed through the house, and the front door burst open. A massive wolf, larger than the others, entered the room. I stumbled back in shock as the creature transformed before my eyes into a man, a man I had never seen before.

He looked at Paul with a mixture of anger and determination. "Paul, you can't hide any longer. The pack needs you, and your Uncle is waiting for you."

Chapter 3 The Unveiling - Paul's POV

As Amber stood there her eyes wide with disbelief, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of guilt and regret. I had hidden my true nature from her for so long, and now the consequences were crashing down upon us.

The stranger who had transformed from a massive wolf into a man was a member of my pack. His name was Mark, and he had come to retrieve me, to remind me of my duties and responsibilities as an alpha.

I looked at Amber my heart aching as I saw the fear and confusion in her eyes. "Amber, I know this is a lot to take in but it's the truth. I'm a werewolf and I'm the alpha of a pack. Mark here is a member of my pack."

Amber continued to stare at me, her voice trembling. "Alpha? Pack? What is going on Paul? This is insane!"

Mark stepped forward, his expression grave. "Paul, you can't delay any longer. The pack is in turmoil and your uncle is waiting for you."

I turned to Mark my frustration building. "I told you I needed more time mark, I can't just leave Amber like this."

Amber's fear was palpable and I couldn't bear to see her like this. "Amber, I promise I'll explain everything but right now I need to deal with this situation. Can you please stay safe in the house?"

She nodded, her eyes filled with tears. "Just be careful, Paul. I don't know what's happening but I'll wait for you to explain everything to me."

With a heavy heart I followed Mark outside where the rest of the pack was waiting. Their eyes were fixed on me and I could sense their expectation and impatience.

Mark led me to a secluded area where he explained the urgency of the situation. "Paul, the pack is on the brink of a civil war. Your uncle, Moses is challenging your leadership. He believes you've been away for too long and wants to take control."

I clenched my fists, the weight of my responsibilities pressing down on me. "I can't let that happen Mark. I need to go back and assert my position as the alpha."

As I prepared to leave, Mark placed a hand on my shoulder his expression softening. "Paul, I understand that this is difficult for you, but remember that you have a mate waiting for you out there. She's the only one who can help you balance the human and wolf sides of you."

I nodded, a sense of determination taking hold. "I'll go back Mark but I need to make sure Amber is safe, besides I've not found my mate till now."

Mark understood and with a solemn nod he said, "We'll be waiting for you, Paul. The pack needs you and I'll help you find your mate."

I returned to the house to find Amber waiting anxiously. She looked at me, her eyes filled with concern. "Paul, what's happening? Are you going away?"

I took her hands in mine, trying to convey the depth of my emotions. "Amber, I promise I'll explain everything when I return but right now, I need to go and take care of something important."

Tears welled up in her eyes, and she nodded. "I can't believe you're doing this to me Paul."

I kissed her forehead, my heart heavy with the knowledge that I was leaving her in a world filled with secrets and uncertainties. "Remember Amber, I love you."

With that, I transformed into my wolf form and with a final glance at Amber, I raced into the night guided by the call of my pack and the destiny that awaited me.

Amber's life took a tumultuous turn after Paul's departure for his pack. The newfound knowledge of the supernatural world, the revelation of Paul's werewolf identity and the complexities of his bond with Rose had left her in a state of confusion and emotional turmoil.

As she grappled with her emotions, the small town of Graven which had once been a place of comfort became a source of discomfort. Gossips and rumours circulated through the community and Amber couldn't escape the prying eyes and whispers that followed her wherever she went. The townsfolk, who had been warm and welcoming, now looked at her with a mix of sympathy and judgment.

As the news of Paul's betrayal and the subsequent breakup spread like wildfire through the town, Amber became the subject of intense gossip and scrutiny. Her once-friendly neighbours and acquaintances now regarded her with disdainful looks, as if they held her responsible for the scandal. Some people believed that she must have done something to drive Paul away, and they were quick to pass judgment without understanding the truth.

Amber's work too began to suffer as a result of her declining performance. Her emotional distress had seeped into her professional life, affecting her focus and productivity. The looming threat of losing her job weighed heavily on her.

Her closest friends, who had always been a source of support were unable to provide the solace she desperately needed. The bonds that had once been strong now felt strained, as Amber grappled with her own troubles and the growing distance between her and her friends.

The relationship with her family also faced its share of challenges. The stress of her engagement and the subsequent breakup had created tensions that were difficult to mend. Amber found herself in a state of isolation, struggling to bridge the gap that had formed between her and her loved ones.

As Amber faced these troubles, her once-vibrant spirit began to wane. The burden of her emotions and the weight of the secrets she carried took a toll on her. She felt as though she was trapped in a never-ending storm of difficulties.

Despite the trials and tribulations, Amber's determination and resilience remained intact. She knew that she had to find a way to overcome her troubles and regain control of her life. The challenges she faced were daunting but she was determined to emerge from them stronger and more determined than ever.
