Chapter 1 Diana

Dee baby... "Dee baby, wake up! You're late for the job interview!" That single statement jolted Diana out of bed. She hurried to the bathroom to take a quick shower and hastily brushed through her tangled hair. She barely had time to think before throwing on her best outfit and racing downstairs. The sizzling aroma of freshly baked potatoes and chicken soup welcomed her to the dining room. The family was already gathered, chatting and laughing. "Good morning, everyone!" Diana greeted breathlessly as she grabbed her purse from the couch.

"Come have your breakfast, Dee baby," Grandma called softly, dragging a chair out for her. "No, sweet Grandma, I will pass today," she replied with a rushed smile while heading for the door. But she stopped almost immediately. "Sugar Grandma, please pack some of your magical mashed potatoes for me. I'll take them with me; I need all the luck I can get today." "Diana, we are all invisible now, right?" her father joked. "C'mon, Cute Daddy, your baby girl is already late," she replied with a wink. "I love you, Daddy, I love you, Mummy," she said, turning to her brother. "I hate you, bro," she said with a playful scowl. Jaxon just rolled his eyes at her and continued devouring his meal as though nothing happened. Grandma walked up to her with a warm smile. "Dee baby, here are your potatoes. I packed them well. Now get going; you don't want to be late, you know?" "Thanks, Grandma," Diana said, hugging her briefly before closing the door behind her. Diana walked briskly to the bus stop while trying to call her best friend Emma. Emma picked up on the second ring. "Hey babe, where are you?" "On my way to the bus station. How about you?" Diana replied. "I'm at work, girl... I called you but you didn't pick up. You don't expect me to be late and face my cold-hearted boss, do you?" she chuckled. Before Diana could reply, the bus arrived. "Alright babe, see you," she said, ending the call. Diana took a deep breath and stepped onto the bus. The ride to the company was smooth as she wondered if she could get the job. "Oh Lord, please, I need this job. Since Dad retired, things are not as they used to be," she prayed silently. The bus finally pulled to a stop after what felt like forever. Diana got down after paying the driver and exclaimed, "Oh my gosh, this is heaven!" as she gazed at the gigantic company building. "Welcome to Spintech Company," she read quietly before dragging her feet inside. Once inside, she marveled at the sight before her, but she didn't have enough time to admire the building because she saw other applicants waiting for the interview, just like her. She walked briskly toward them and sat beside a plump lady, mouthing a "good morning" before focusing on her phone. A few minutes later, a petite lady came out to address them. "Good morning, everyone! You are all welcome to our humble organization. The best among you will get the job as the boss's secretary." There was a little murmur among the applicants, but it died down quickly. "Well, the interview isn't hard, but it is being conducted by the boss himself. You will go in there and do whatever he asks of you. Good luck, girls! You are all welcome once again. Your time starts now!" The first applicant was a beautiful girl who dressed as though she were going to a party instead of an interview. Not long after she entered, they heard a deep voice shouting, "Get out of my office!" That was how it went until it was Diana's turn. She felt nervous but masked it with a calm expression. She walked slowly to the office, but she wasn't prepared for what she saw: a handsome young man who looked like he wasn't from this planet. His white hair, silver eyes, and pointed nose left her senses completely blank for a few seconds. Kane was equally awestruck by her beauty-her long golden hair that stopped at her slim waist, her figure, and her green eyes. "Are you done staring, pervert?" his deep voice brought her out of her reverie, and she quickly composed herself while muttering a greeting.

Chapter 2 Job interview

"Good morning sir, " she muttered barely above a whisper. "Are you still standing there? Go get me some coffee," he commanded coldly. Diana blinked in confusion, but quickly turned and walked out of the office, heading back toward the reception desk. "Hi madam, she greeted politely. "Please, can you show me where I can get coffee for the boss?" "Oh yeah, sure. Come with me," the receptionist replied kindly. "Thanks, I appreciate it, " Diana said with a grateful smile as they walked off. A few minutes later, Diana returned to Kane's and gently placed the steaming cup of coffee on his desk.

Kane took a sip and immediately spit it out "Why is it hot? Do you want to peel off my tongue?"He snapped "Sorry sir I thought it was warm," she said, nervously. "Don't talk while I'm talking. Now get out of my office and make sure to be here by 8:00 a.m. sharp tomorrow morning." Diana froze her heart pounding. Just like that But instead of dwelling on the harshness, she smiled to herself. It doesn't matter. I got the job. That's all that matters. "Thank you, sir, see you tomorrow," Back at the reception, she dialed Emma's number . She picked up immediately, like she has been expecting the call. "Guess what babe!" Diana said "C'mon you know I'm a terrible guesser. spill already-I'm drowning girl!!" Emma said. "Well I got the job!!! She screamed, drawing amused stares of other staffs nearby. She quickly lowered her voice. "Woooow, babe am so happy for you!" "I can't leave my duty post right now but I swear I'm coming to sleep over tonight ." "No problem, sugar. I'm expecting you! I'll even save some of Grandma's magical mashed potatoes," Diana teased "Gosh, I'm already salivating! Bye girl" Diana boarded a cab and arrived home, where she met only Mr. Maxwell in the sitting room. "Sugar daddy, I'm back!!" She called playfully. "Ohh my Little angel welcome back How was the interview today baby?" he asked warmly "I'm not your little angel daddy I'm a big girl" she pouted playfully. "C'mon you will always be my little angel" Mr Maxwell chuckled "Well ... I got the job daddy " she beamed. "Ohh congratulations Angel, this calls for celebration! I will inform Grandma right away." "Alright daddy I will be in my room, " she said, climbing the stairs. She entered her bedroom changed into a simple white singlet, with matching shorts. Jumped onto her bed and drifted off to sleep. Meanwhile in Kane's office... Kane sat behind his desk, staring into space. He couldn't stop thinking about the girl he just hired without even looking at her credentials. Her green eyes... they hunted him. He can't even wait for tomorrow to see her again. Why am I thinking so much about her? Is this me? This was the first time a woman had affected him so much. "Well", he muttered, "we will see where this leads. With a sigh, he buried himself in paperwork Diana woke up after hours of sleep, her stomach growling. "Gosh, I'm hungry" she mumbled. She stumbled sleepily downstairs and found Jaxon chatting with his best friend, Lucian. "The Little Witch is awake" Lucian teased, and Diana shot him a glare. He Laughed. Turning to Jaxon, she asked, "Bro I'm hungry Did you cook?" "Aren't you the one who's supposed to cook for us?"He replied Rolling her eyes she walked to the kitchen and hastily whipped up noodles and chicken. She dished her portion and left the rest for the boys. Lucian on the other hand kept stealing glances at her. he had been crushing on her since they were younger_ but Diana only saw him as a brother. " "She's grown so beautiful", he thought "If only I have the courage to make her mine." Jaxon stood up entering the kitchen to serve himself and Lucian. After eating, Diana washed the dishes and headed back upstairs. Her mind,, wandered to the striking yet cold boss she met earlier. And she smiled "Diana, hold yourself", she muttered. "he doesn't even like you" An hour later, Grandma and Mrs Maxwell returned looking very exhausted Dee baby! Dee babyyy grandma called from the hallway. "I'm coming!" Diana replied, rushing downstairs. "Welcome, mummy. Welcome, Sugar Grandma. How were today's sales?" she asked. "It was fine love I made enough sales today" Grandma replied cheerfully "Mummy you're quiet are you okay?"Diana asked. "Yes darling. I'm good just wanted two to finish talking first. So his was the interview ? "Oh, I nearly forgot to ask!" Grandma exclaimed. "It went well! Out of thirty applicants I was picked. You're now looking at the Assistant Boss of Spintech company!" "Ohh my Gawwd! Congratulations, baby! I promise to make you a delicious meal to celebrate," her mum exclaimed. "But I need to shower first," Grandma said heading upstairs. Mrs Maxwell followed behind. After showering, they came down to prepare dinner. with Diana lending a helping hand they prepared spaghetti bolognese Just the way Diana loves it with roasted chicken . " I'm famished she said dipping her hand in the bowl of chicken" "Food is ready sweetie" Grandma was saying but the doorbell interrupted Diana bolted to the door. And just like she expected Emma was standing outside holding a box of pizza. "Babes! she squealed, jumping on Emma. "Don't blame me if you land on the floor " Emma Joked, rolling her eyes. "You are lucky we are about to eat! Diana laughed. "What's that delicious aroma? Is Don't tell me it's spaghetti bolognese!" "You guessed right baby" Emma rushed to the dining table. "Good evening everyone! Please dish out my meal, Mum I'm famished! "I will do that, baby", Grandma said, chuckling. The atmosphere at the dining table was lively, everybody chatting about their day including Jaxon. "Why isn't Dad home yet ?" Diana asked " I don't know", her mum replied. "Maybe he is stuck in traffic." After eating, Emma and Diana cleared the table and washed the dishes. Once they were in Diana's room, Emma asked" So how was the interview?" "Babe, he only asked me to get him a cup of coffee _that was it!" "Really? Emma blinked. "he didn't give you the entrance exam ?" Nope. Just yelled at me to get out and resume at 8:00 tomorrow." "Wow. that's new. anyways congratulations, assistant boss!" She teased "Don't shout at me while at work else I will punch your face after work " Emma joked Diana laughed. "Why would I do that?" "Let's go to bed, babe. I wouldn't want to start my first day on the wrong foot" "Alright, babe. Goodnight Emma said switching off the light. Meanwhile at Kane's house Kane was gazing lazily at the Television when his Mother Mrs Laura Russell walked in "Evening mum" he greeted "Evening Son, how are you?" She asked "I'm fine Mum" "How was today's work" "Hectic as usual mum he said rolling his eyes playfully" "Hope you've eaten" "I just did not quite long Mummy. My son hope you know I'm not getting any younger. Why haven't you bring a wife or even introduce a girl to be you don't want to give me grandchildren right? She queried Once again Kane's thoughts drifted to Diana. "Soon mum I promise" Okay son make it quick I'm losing patience" "Goodnight mummy " Good night son she said proceeding to her room

Chapter 3 Assistant in everything

Grrrrr... The alarm buzzed for the third time, and Diana jolted up to check the time. 7:16 am "Oh my God, no no no not today, please!" "What's the problem?" Emma asked sleepily. "Get up, babe! We're late-it's 7:16 am!" Emma sprang out of bed, rushing straight to the bathroom to get ready. The two of them hurriedly showered, creating just enough time to get dressed. They quickly scurried downstairs, completely skipping breakfast. "Good morning, everyone!" "We'll skip breakfast, Mum. We're almost late," they chorused as they dashed to the bus station.

They were lucky to find the bus already waiting when they arrived. Hopping on, they chose a corner seat, each lost in thoughts about the day ahead. As the bus pulled up to the company, Diana checked the time: 7:57 am. "Thank God it's not 8 yet," she exhaled in relief. "We're lucky," Emma chuckled, sharing a hopeful smile. Inside the company, Emma hugged Diana tightly before hurrying off to her post, leaving Diana to navigate the day on her own. Taking a deep breath, Diana walked toward the elevator. At the reception, she spotted the friendly lady from the previous day. "Good morning," Diana greeted brightly. "Assistant Boss, good morning, ma," Clarissa replied with a warm, encouraging smile. Diana couldn't help but feel a little more at ease. As she entered the elevator, it stopped at the top floor with a mix of anticipation and nerves. Stepping out, she took a moment to gather herself before entering the office. "There he is," she thought, feeling a flutter of excitement. "Good morning, sir," she greeted as she entered. He nodded and glanced at the clock-8:02 am. "You're two minutes late, and it shouldn't happen again. You're supposed to be here before me always," he stated, and Diana's heart raced slightly. He gestured toward the door on the left. "You will be working in the office next to mine. You'll handle my schedules and deliver files to the executive board when necessary. Don't bring me coffee again unless I ask." "Understood, sir," Diana replied, raising her head to meet his gaze for a moment before quickly averting it, feeling her face warm with a mix of embarrassment and excitement. "You can go to your office now. Everything you need to know about the company has been sent to your email," he added. Diana nodded and left, feeling like the real journey was just beginning. Inside her office, she released a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. "Breathe, Dee; you're going to be fine." She opened her email, sorted through her tasks, and dove into her work, feeling surprisingly adept with the company's digital systems. Every few minutes, Kane buzzed her intercom with file requests, his demeanor as serious as ever. Yet Diana was determined to keep her composure, not letting him see that he flustered her. As break time approached, excitement bubbled within her when she met Emma at the canteen. "How's it going, babe?" Emma asked, curious. "Well, I'd say it's going smoothly since he hasn't yelled at me today at all," Diana replied. "That's good! Let's finish up and get back; I have a mountain of work waiting," Emma said, her expression brightening. "Okay, babe. Bye." "Catch you later, sweetie!" Diana called as she headed back to her office, anticipation tingling in her chest. Upon returning, she saw Kane with a frown on his face. "Where have you been?" he asked, cutting into her thoughts. "I went to eat, sir," she explained. "Don't you know we are supposed to eat together? You're my assistant; you're supposed to assist me in everything." "Now come, let's grab lunch-I'm famished." "Okay, sir," she replied, a mixture of curiosity and excitement welling up inside. As they stepped outside, the female staff shot Diana jealous glances, except for Clarissa, who beamed at her. Diana held her head high, ready to face whatever came next. Once in the car, Kane opened the door for her, and she slipped into the passenger seat. "He still has some chivalry despite his cold demeanor," she thought, a small smile tugging at her lips. Kane drove in silence, both lost in their thoughts. He wanted to talk, but he hesitated, unsure of how to bridge the distance. Upon arriving at the eatery, they walked in together and found a cozy spot to sit. A waiter approached to take their order, and Diana quickly chose shawarma while Kane opted for fruit salad. "So he brought me here just for fruit salad?" Diana scoffed inwardly, intrigued by Kane's choice. "So she's having shawarma for lunch? No wonder she's so skinny," Kane thought to himself, his curiosity piqued. Five minutes later, their meals arrived, and they ate in silence. Diana stole glances at Kane, and each time he caught her eye, he couldn't help but smile inwardly. After finishing, Kane settled the bill, and they returned to work quietly, the air between them electric with unspoken possibilities. As Diana dashed back to her office, she couldn't shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of something significant. "Am I smelling? Why does she always want to leave my presence so quickly?" Kane pondered. Back at her desk, Diana continued working diligently, completing her tasks before 5:00 pm, the official closing hour. As she stood outside Kane's office, pondering whether to knock, she summoned her courage and walked in when he called her in. "All done," she said, placing the neatly organized folders on his desk. Kane looked up, taking in the sight of her hard work. "You work fast," he noted, a hint of admiration spilling into his tone. "It's my obligation not to disappoint you, sir," she replied, the excitement of his recognition thrumming between them. A flicker of something deeper passed through his eyes. "You didn't disappoint." After a brief pause, she smiled and nodded, "Goodnight, sir." Just as she turned to leave, his next words froze her in place. "Why don't I drop you off?" Her heart skipped a beat. "Don't worry, sir; I wouldn't want to stress you." "I insist, Diana." "Okay, sir... but my best friend will tag along. I don't want to leave her behind." Kane said nothing but she could sense his reaction, the tension rising as they both navigated unfamiliar ground. Diana's mind raced with the possibilities of what this day-and their working relationship-could blossom into, as they stepped out into the world together.
