Prologue
"Where are you going?" Roy asked me before I finally got out of the house. I turned to him and winced.
"Why? I'm just going to see Lynne."
"Are you sure? Or maybe him, again?" He asked me seriously.
Iblinked and finally turned to the door knob.
"I'll be right back," I said to him, then I went outside.
I hurried to text Lynne to pick me up here because we had a conversation today about going to the place where he is now. I waited a few more minutes outside the house before he came, so I was very annoyed.
"What took you so long? I already told you about this," I told her irritably as I got into the passenger seat of his Fortuner.
I heard her swear, so I looked at her sharply.
"What?"
"Shut up, Acel. Do you want me to hit this car, so you can stop there?"
She could no longer continue what she was going to say because of a black Sedan that overtook from behind us. We cursed together and she blew her horn loudly.
"Stupid! You're going to die too!"
I was furious at the driver of that sedan even though I knew it could no longer hear me. What else did Lynne and I say about it until we got to the parking lot of the building where the two of us were going. I could feel the sudden pounding of my chest even though we were still in the lobby.
The receptionist greeted us and immediately asked us if we had an appointment. Lynne just shrugged her shoulder.
"Just ask her, Miss."
"None. What now?"
"Oh, Ma'am, I'm sorry. You can't- "
"You think I didn't know that before I came here? I'm not stupid like you. By the way," I lazily told her that surprised her.
I just noticed Lynne was shaking her head. Won't she help me?
"Ma'am, wait a minute. You're not allowed to stay-"
I quickly faced her and raised an eyebrow. Before I could finally ruin her morning, Lynne took me in.
"I'm sorry, Miss. We have an appointment with Celina Samonte and we're in a rush now. We're late for our meeting with her, so, can you excuse us?"
My eyes rolled because of what she said to this female receptionist while still smiling. As of it was real. I saw the receptionist nod and handed me a paper. Lynne pulled me towards the elevator.
"So, what are we actually doing here, Acuzar? You're really going to have trouble," she preached to me while his cat-like eyes stared at me.
I just looked at her as she held that book with the navy blue colored cover. It was from Coffee Deim. Why is it still in her? She borrowed that book from the coffee shop a long time ago. I sneezed and nodded.
"Who is Celina Samonte again?" I asked her.
She glared at me quickly and did something to her cellphone.
"I'll just wait for you at the lobby. You can do it yourself."
I just simply nodded at her and let her go down to the floor where we stopped, because there were other people with us who also went down there. I silently stared at the screen of my cellphone.
Staring at him like this makes me want to see him right now, right at this moment. I can't seem to bear not to see him at all.
"I hope to see you," I almost whispered to myself.
I kissed my cellphone's screen and hid it in my jeans pocket. I had adjusted myself when I saw I was on the 31st floor. I was walking slowly towards where he was now.
Recently, I was excited about coming here just to see him after a long time, but now I feel like I suddenly fainted. I don't know, but I feel like I just want to go back to the elevator and just go home. What is wrong with me, now?
Istopped walking and stood on the side of the fire exit. I peeked at the door where he was now, expecting someone to go inside or outside from there so that I can see who is inside. A woman holding a folder knocked on their door.
Later, a tall woman with red hair appeared. I suddenly wanted to scream when I recognized her face. She's Celina Samonte, their manager! Now I just saw her in person and she is really a rock star goddess, as others say.
"I'll leave this door open so you don't have to knock. It's hard to go back and forth," I heard
Celina said to the woman who knocked recently. I suddenly felt jealous of that woman. It's like I suddenly want to work here just to be with them whenever I want to. Damn!
"All right, Ma'am. I'll just call them when it's over, " the woman said goodbye to Celina.
Celina smiled at her before she finally left. When the woman disappeared from her sight, her expression quickly changed. She just changed her expression into a stiff one from a tame one in just a snap. Whoa!
I slowly stepped towards the open door. I just hope no one sees me here, because otherwise it's all over. When I was sure no one would notice me, I quickly peeked inside. My jaw automatically dropped when I saw them and him. Oh my god!
"You need to practice more songs, guys. Come-on! " Celina said to them, so my chest throbbed even more.
They will sing! They will play their instruments in front of me, indirectly. Oh my fuck! They will fucking sing their songs while I am actually listening here! Shit, Acel!
"Is this the last song, Cel? Then we can eat?" Miko asks Celina, the lead guitarist of the band. Fucking shit!
"Yes. So, you can start, now," she commands them.
I even put my head in the doorway just to see him clearly. I want to see him clearly! I want to see how he moves, how his mouth opens with every song he sings. I want to feel his soul, too. Just like what he does every time he sings. Fuck! I'm gonna cry!
(Vapor by 5 Seconds of Summer playing at the background)
I suddenly felt a softening of the knee. Whatever I do to hold on to where I fell on purpose, so for a moment, I looked away from him because otherwise, they would catch me. I sighed deeply. I tried to get more air, but it's not even enough for me to even breathe properly. I feel like someone is choking me. Damn! Fucking help me!
I quickly wiped the tears from my eyes while still listening to him. His voice... his fucking voice that always makes my knees melt.
"F-fuck...what should I do?" I faintly whispered to myself.
I was sitting on the floor when I heard the chorus of them singing. I wanted to sing with them, but I couldn't. My voice is slowly breaking. My poor eyes can't stop themselves from crying. I can't with this tears!
"Wait a minute! What are you doing there, Caleb?" I immediately stood up when I heard Celina's voice.
Next, I heard the answer from Caleb, the bassist and vocalist of the band, and their commotion inside.
"Let's eat first!" I heard Ash shouting, the drummer in the band, so I quickly peeked at their open door.
But it was too late to even know that he was in front of me. I just felt my head collide with his chest, which surprised us all.
"What the hell?" I heard he cursed, so I looked up at him.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" I swallowed three times when I heard that baritone voice from him.
I don't know if he was ordering me to answer his question or if that was really just his reaction.
"Uhh..." I murmured.
"What happened?" I heard Celina said.
"Who are you?" he asked me again, and at the same time, he was staring into my eyes.
I suddenly felt something inside my chest and in my stomach. Like I want to vomit or what because it looks like someone is tickling the back of my stomach. His pair of blue eyes are staring at mine. What should I do?
"K-kiel," I whispered.
He didn't know me?
Family Name
"What happened in the studio?" Lynne asked me again while her attention was on her book, again.
She didn't even look at me. I heaved a sigh and took a sip of my coffee.
"I heard his voice, Lynne! I heard him sing." I was hysterical at her for trying to lower my voice because it is forbidden to make noise in the coffee shop where we are now.
I saw her glance at me for a moment and then turn back to what she was reading.
"Then?"
"I cried because I finally heard them sing in person, of course! What do you expect me to feel?" I told her and stared at my coffee.
I suddenly remembered our encounter yesterday with his band and Celina. Embarrassing. So embarrassing! I didn't expect him to react like that. It was so scary. He was so cold. His blue eyes are both frosty while looking at me. Different Kiel I saw yesterday in Kiel performing on stage. It feels like he's not my Kiel De Ocampo. He's not the vocalist I expected him to be. He doesn't seem to be the person I expected to meet. Why?
"Why are you silent? Something bad happened?" I heard Lynne ask.
I looked at her. I lazily leaned back in my chair and stared blankly at every entrance and exit of the people in the Coffee Deim. Every sound of chimes and the delicious smell of coffee.
"He threw me away." Full of resentment, I told her.
"Maybe, he's just stressed. I saw it in his eyes when he looked at me. Maybe he was just tired, so he did that to me. You know that? With so much thinking, he doesn't recognize my face right away. At least, I can say that I'm a fan of theirs, especially him." Smiling, I told her.
She just shooked her head. Yeah, right. He was just preoccupied, so he didn't recognize me. I heard her violently close the book she was reading. I watched her drink her coffee and how she parted her hair in an artistic way. What's with this woman?
"What?" I asked her with my eyebrows raised. Her face was serious when she turned to me.
"Are they all worth it?" I frowned at her question.
"Of course! What else? I wouldn't be like this if they are just nothing. You know my reason."
"Okay, as you say, so. I just want to remind you, Acel, that forbidden are bad, especially when they're too much."
If Lynne wasn't really my best friend, I would have rejected her for a long time. She's always like that! Still, mysterious, there is always something to say and doesn't know if I feel irritated by what she says.
When we finished at Coffee Deim, I went home first, while she went straight to her Aunt's office where she works now. She invited me to work at her current work place, but I refused. I don't like paperwork. I would rather be the one to walk my people than be commanded. Maybe my co-workers and I just can't get along then.
"When are you going back to the states, Cel?" My older brother asked me while we were eating. I saw Jamilah, his girlfriend, looking at me as well.
I shrugged, "I just got back from there. Why don't you want me here?"
"It's not like that. Dad misses you," he said.
"Maybe soon. I still want to be here. Don't let me go first!" I was so sick of him that they both laughed.
I was just tired because of that. When we finished eating, Jamilah invited me to the grocery to buy stocks. I didn't say no because I had nothing to do at home. I want to go to Java Records again and listen to their songs while they're rehearsing, but I think, this is not the right time.
"I'll just go first to the toiletries section, Jam." I said goodbye to Jamilah, who just nodded at me.
I went there alone to get my belongings. While I was looking for a brand of napkin, I heard my cellphone beeping, so I picked it up first to see who was texting.
Lynne Dionne
Where are you?
What does she want from me this time?
To Lynne Dionne
Grocery Store with Jamilah. Why?
Lynne Dionne
Let's meet. I have something to say
To Lynne Dionne
Okay
I was about to put my cellphone inside my pocket, but I was stunned when I saw him in my cellphone's screen. He was wearing a white polo with his long hair on. Why does he have to be so perfect in my eyes? Why does he have to look so goddess like this? Damn.
"Excuse me, Miss. Are you going to take it or not?"
I almost let go of my cellphone because of the appearance of this creature next to me. I was ready to slap her, but I was stunned when I saw her in front of me.
"You've been standing there. Are you going to buy some or what?" rude and strict, she said to me.
Usually, when I encounter people like this, I break up right away, but Celina caught me off guard because I was suddenly ashamed of her.
"I-I'm sorry," I uttered.
She took what was there and then stared at me. Suddenly, her forehead furrowed and her eyes narrowed at me.
"Have we met before? You look familiar."
Shit!
"Oh...you're that girl last time that went to our studio to sneak a peek, right?" She asked me a serious question, so I quickly shook my head.
"N-no! No..." I told her as if I'm a kid.
She started looking at me from head to toe. I just hope I don't get overwhelmed by her, but she will join me by chance.
"You don't look like a paparazzi. So, what were you doing there the other day? Are you a stalker?" she asked me an authoritative question that I immediately denied.
"N-no, Miss."
"So, what are you doing? Why are you there in our studio and watching us?"
Nervously, I handed her my cellphone for her to see what I was doing to them. She accepted it with a frown and looked at the screen of my cellphone. I saw her expression change. From a stiff one to a blank expression. How can she do that?
"You're a fan," she stated to me.
I simply nodded at her and she returned my cellphone to me. She looked at me carefully after that.
"Give me your number."
"H-huh?" "I said, give me your number. I'm in a hurry." Still no expression, she said to me.
Surprisingly, I quickly took a calling card from my wallet and handed it to her. When I handed it to her, she suddenly turned her back on me and walked away from me.
"What the fuck?" I whispered to myself as I just stared at her, walking outside the store.
"Fuck! What's the fucking meaning of that?" I happily shouted inside the grocery store.
Jamilah to run towards me with a worried expression.
"Hey, what's wrong? What happened? Are you alright?" I winced immediately when I saw how much Jamilah cared about me.
I shook her hand then anchored her arm.
" I think, something is coming up, Jam," I whispered to her as we went to the counter.
-
"What is it?"
I met Lynne at the entrance of Coffee Diem. She ignored me and went inside, so I just followed her. She has a problem. We ordered our usual coffee and we went to our usual spot where I could see the whole city lights. This is the perfect place we always want ever since Lynne discovered this place. I am extremely stressed and tired.
"Don't you really want to enter Inktel?" she asked when we sat down.
I looked at her with just a serious expression.
"Why?"
"Aunt Das is forcing me to be their acting CEO. I don't want that," she told me in trouble.
I frowned at her, then I sipped my coffee.
"Why don't you try? You're so lucky."
"I'm not into that kind of work, Acel, and you know that. You know, I'm just better at designing houses." I laughed at what she said.
I saw my cellphone light up because of Roy's call, but I ignored it at first. Instead, I focused on her.
"Why did you join their company if you didn't want that?" I laughed while questioning her.
She rubbed her forehead and then stared at the city lights, so I also looked there.
"I also don't want to enter our own company and be the boss there without being bothered. I want to build my own name."
"By the way, don't put up with that first. It's your art! Besides, I'm just waiting for the response from the law firm that Dad recommended to me."
"Really?" she mocked me.
"Yes, why? What's your problem?"
The edge of her lip lifted and she shook her head.
"I thought you'd be spending your vacation here doing fangirling shit."
I looked at my cellphone again when it flashed again because of Roy's call. Disgusted, I slipped it into my bag and turned back to Lynne.
"That's not a shit, bitch. They are my life," I declared to her.
She just smirked, "Oh, they are your life, yet he doesn't even recognize you," she added and was accompanied by the roundness of her eyes.
"You know what, Lynne? You need at least a chill in your life. Not just books and work. Everything that comes out of your mouth is very irritating because of you, being a workaholic," I told her and took my cellphone that has been ringing for a while.
"None of your business," Lynne said to me, but my attention wouldn't be there if it wasn't for Roy's text.
Big Bro
What's Kiel's family name?
I immediately typed a reply to him. Why did he ask suddenly?
To Big Bro
De Ocampo. Why?
Big Bro
Is he related to Liza De Ocampo?
Why is he asking about Kiel? I quickly typed the answer to his question and turned to Lynne for a moment.
To Big Bro
Kiel's Mom. Why? Why did you suddenly ask that?
Big bro
Nothing. Go home, it's late.
What? Is there anything wrong?
Note
I woke up early to work out at Reyster's gym for a while. I haven't been able to exercise for a few days because I'm too busy collecting news about my boys, so I feel like I'm gaining weight.
When I got home last night, I couldn't find Roy awake. This morning, our maids said he left early, so I was still clueless until now about his questions last night. What could there be?
"Long time no see. When did you arrive?" Reyster greeted me when I entered.
I just nodded at him, then quickly smiled when I heard the song he was playing in his gym.
"Nice to see you again, huh?" I told him with a laugh.
He shrugged and guided me inside, "I like that, eh."
My smile widened because of what he said. It's really easy to influence this one.
"I told you, they're awesome and talented as fuck," I smiled and told him. He just nodded.
"Kiel is mine, then." I quickly turned to him and stared at him.
"What?"
"Kiel is m-"
"Don't you ever say that again to my face, Reys, otherwise I will break your face," I threatened him.
He laughed and raised both his hands as if surrendering.
"Chill! I'm just kidding. I'm still into drummer." I just sneered at him and slapped his stomach, causing him to sneer.
"You're so disgusting. You're even more flirtatious than me," I laughed and told him. I saw his snout, so I just stared at it.We struggled for a while before we started. I was in the middle of thread-milling when my ears suddenly swelled at what I heard.
"Are you sure no one is here right now?" I heard a man say in a full voice.
Fuck! Why does it look like it is Kiel's voice?
"You don't have any fans here, don't worry." Reyster said, so I stopped the treadmill and headed in his direction.
I literally dropped my jaw when I saw him, the man Reyster was talking to. What the hell? They quickly turned to me. I was even surprised when I saw his eyes again, that definition of the word 'cold'. I immediately turned my gaze to Reyster, asking him what the hell was happening right now, but he just laughed at me.
"My friend, guys. She's the only person here besides you. Don't worry, she's harmless." Reyster told him.
I wanted to cursed him, but that disappeared from my mind when he looked at me again.
"I knew her," he said in his cold baritone voice.
He just gestured to Reyster and then passed me to go inside. I followed him with my gaze until he was at the treadmill where I came from earlier. Oh my god! My cellphone.
"What, are you okay? I forgot to say-"
"Fuck." I said crisp when I saw that Kiel had already started running with the treadmill.
I also heard the voices of three more, but I couldn't look back at them because I was just focused on Kiel, on what he would do once he saw my cellphone.
"Acel."
"Fucker! What? My phone, Reys!" I whispered to her and even pulled her by her arm.
"What? Where?"
"Kiel," I uttered, which he understood immediately.
I heard him laugh and even tapped me on my shoulder.
"Got it. Rest first."
He said goodbye to me. Before he turned his back on me, I pinched his arm, causing him to sneer.
"What?!"
"He. Is. Mine. Bitch!" I threatened him, but he just rolled his eyes.
I sat on the bleachers there and stared at the four. I can't believe what I'm seeing right now! When did they start going to the gym here? The corner of my mouth lifted when I saw Reyster approaching Kiel, asking about my phone that was on top of the treadmill buttons. Kiel looked at my phone then looked at me. I was stunned when he paused for a minute, staring at me as I saw Reyster's mouth open, obviously saying something to it. I didn't let go of that stare of Kiel's because it was too bearable. In the end, it was him who averted his gaze. I was expecting him to give my phone to Reyster, but he didn't. Instead, he just looked at it again and turned to Reyster. I wanted to approach them suddenly just to hear what they said to that gay man, but my knees were still stiff. What's going on again?! Later, I saw Reyster walking in my direction, so I immediately raised an eyebrow at him.
"What did he say?"
"Huh? Nothing." He teased me.
I got up and was about to pinch him, but he immediately avoided it.
"Fuck!" I hissed.
"What did say?" I frustratedly asked him.
He just laughed at me and even anchored his hand on my arm.
"Let's go downstairs first." He whispered to me, so I pulled him out. I was so annoyed.
"Damn it, Reys!" I was furious with him just so he would stop me from hanging him.
"You'll get that later too. I told you," he said to me with a smile.
I just followed his gaze as he leaned against the railings of the stairs.
"What did he say?"
"Secret."
"Fuck you! I fucking hate you!" I was so annoyed that I told him I was about to kill him.
I started to feel nervous again when I remembered the stare that Kiel had given me earlier. What the hell is wrong with him? Why does he seem unwilling to give me my cellphone? Will he get that? Does he like it better than me?! Or better yet, does he already know me? I mean, does he already remember me?
I kept swearing in front of Reyster just so he could say what Kiel said, but he still didn't really want to say it. When I'm completely bored with this gay man, I'll cut off his penis!
"Chill, Cel," he whispered to me with laughter as we headed up to his gym.
I would have answered, but I stopped when I saw Kiel, down with the three. My eyes immediately focused on him, but he didn't even look at me. Wait, my phone! Shit!
"R-reys..." I called Reyster nervously.
He motioned to me and chased the four. I just stared at them as he talked to Kiel. I wanted to shout and tell him to look at me again, but I think that's embarrassing. I can't take it anymore! I feel like I'm about to explode and I'm going to kick him a little bit and I'm begging him to just take me home or just take me with him wherever he's going now!
"See you again." Reyster said goodbye to them.
It was too late for me to react when I saw them enter their mobile van. What the hell?! Where is my fucking phone?!
"Reyster, my phone?" I shouted at him when they left.
The gay man ran up to me.
"He borrowed it."
My eyes widened because of what he said.
"What?! Why?! I hope you said he could take the owner of that cellphone home too!" Hysterically, I told him and even slapped him on the shoulder.
He just laughed and guided me upstairs.
"Stupid, just a joke! Your phone is upstairs."
-
"What's your problem? Why do you want to meet here?" Lynne greeted me when she got off her black Hazzard.
Why is this one car so fickle? Does she want to prove something to me or is she just jealous of me? When can I use my sedan? Roy prohibited me by using my own car just because I can go wherever I want to. Damn it.
I kissed her cheek and lazily accompanied her inside Horizon Night, a bar on the 3rd floor.
"Just get inside," I said to her.
She just simply nodded at me and we went inside. We ordered our usual drink, which was not too hard, and we sat at our usual spot at the bar. I immediately closed my eyes when the wind blew and it enveloped my whole body. A few strands of my hair flew away. I suddenly remembered the note on my phone that I had hated for several nights. When our drinks arrived, I immediately turned to Lynne, who was just watching me.
"I met him last week at Reyster's gym." I started.
"Him?" she asked and arranged to sit down.
"Kiel and the three of Fourgotten Souls," I said to her.
Her mouth became round, so I stared at her. Before I could avert my gaze from her, I even saw her narrow her eyes at me.
"So, what happened?" she asked me a blank question.
Instead of answering her, I picked up my cellphone and handed it to her.
She frowned at my phone, "What am I going to do here?"
"Read it, fool," I told her.
She suddenly took my cell phone and read the note that Kiel had typed the day before.
"Oh..."
"Fucker, why is that?" disgusted, I asked Lynne and took my cellphone from her.
I stared at what was written there.
- Stop stalking me. You will not be blessed by me. –
And does he really think I'll stop admiring them? Will I stop admiring him? I don't think so. He had no right to give me an order like this. He will only have it if he marries me. So far nothing, so don't expect me to follow this pest note. I leaned over the table and looked at the city lights.
"I thought he already remembered me," I almost whispered. I heard Lynne sneer.
"What do you think? Why did he forget you?" Lazy I turned to Lynne and gave her a dirty finger.
"He didn't forget me. He just didn't recognize me."
She just stared at the emptiness and averted her eyes from me. She grinned as she stared at the entire city lights.
"It doesn't make any difference. It hurts the same way," she said seriously, so I kept quiet.
After Lynne drove me home, she also heads to her home. I remembered those questions from Roy again, so I couldn't stop myself from going to his room. I stopped knocking because Jamilah was not here. When I opened the door to his room, I found him in front of his laptop.
"Hey."
He quickly turned to me and immediately closed the laptop, so I frowned. Is there something he isn't telling me?
"Why? Why are you here?" He asked and approached me immediately.
Did you drink?"
I winced, "Just a little."
He just shook me and guided me to the chair.
"What do you want?"
"It's about last night. Why did you suddenly ask about Kiel's family name and his Mom?" He suddenly averted his eyes from me and his expression was serious.
"Is there anything I should know?" I added.
He heaved a sigh and stood up. He looked at me then smiled.
"Nothing. I just saw it on the internet. I'm just curious about that man's personality. To know the reason why you're so fond of him." He was convincing me, so I just nodded.
I am not convinced. They are hiding something from me, but I just let it go and went out of his room. I will just found out myself, then.
