"That guy?" Alexa lowered her head, having accidentally met the gaze of the light gray-colored net, belonging to the man who had just gotten out of the car.
"You really came through on your promise, little one." The man said.
Yes. Alexandra kept her promise, after two years ago, the man in front of her now had helped her. Providing assistance, to help her daddy's company get back on its feet.
Alexa thought of selling herself, to get a large sum of money in a short time. To help her father's company that was about to be seized by the bank. However, she realized that if her actions were discovered by the media, it was possible that her company and family would be tarnished.
"Yes, I came. Thank you for helping me at that time. I really don't know if I didn't meet you then, Mr. Ef." Alexa said.
The man called Mr. Ef, pulled one corner of his lips and looked at Alexandra meaningfully.
"I believe you are a trustworthy girl." Mr. Ef added.
Two years ago. Alexandra was very frustrated, she didn't want her family's company that had been built long before she was born, to collapse just like that due to being cheated by her daddy's business partner. At that very moment, she met a man 15 years her senior, Ef.
Without much questioning, Ef immediately offered to help her with whatever she needed.
"Does he really want to help me?" thought Alexa.
There was no one in this world Alexa could trust. That was her mommy's message, but right now, Alexa really needed the help, so Alexa told her the amount of money she needed.
"That's too small for me, I'll give you a check." Ef said without hesitation.
"Before that, sign here first." Ef said, handing Alexa a blank piece of paper.
Alexa accepted it, flipping through the blank paper. Afterward she looked at Ef, with astonishment.
"I-this isn't wrong, sir? Why would I sign a blank paper?" Alexa asked.
"Just sign or I won't help you." Ef said, making Alexa afraid to refuse.
"You don't need to be afraid, right now I haven't thought about what rewards I want from you," said Ef.
"Reward?"
Ef smiled a smirk, making Alexa a little uncomfortable. "You think it's all free? Don't be naive, nothing in this world is free, Alexa."
Alexa didn't know what to do after hearing Ef's words. She couldn't refuse, she needed the check, to help her daddy's company from going out of business.
"Alright, I'll sign," Alexa said, then put her signature on it.
"Good girl. See you in two years, in this place, same time, same month and same date. Do you understand Alexa?" asked Ef to which Alexa quickly nodded.
****
Currently, Alexa was already in Ef's apartment, as per Ef's request.
"You're really very obedient, Alexa. Sit down!" pleaded Ef, who had been sitting on the living room sofa since Alexa's arrival, with her feet on the table.
Alexa sat down opposite Ef, her heart racing with fear. She had never had any kind of cooperation with a man, especially since he was 15 years older than Alexa.
"What is it exactly, you asked me to come here?" Alexa asked.
Ef handed her a sheet of paper filled with letters. Not much was written on the paper, but it still surprised Alexa.
"Read this, this is our cooperation agreement, which you signed two years ago," said Ef.
Alexa began to read the sheet of paper.
"The first party is Ef and the second party is Alexandra Johnson. The second party is willing to cooperate with the first party, and obey whatever the first party orders. Including being a spy from Ef." Reading the agreement, successfully made both of her eyeballs perfectly rounded.
"When did I sign this agreement?" Alexa didn't think she had ever signed it.
"Two years ago when you signed the blank paper... and this is our cooperation contract," Ef said.
"I'll tell you your initial duties. Have you prepared the files I asked for?" Ef asked.
Alexa nodded, then handed over the files Ef had requested. "Here, sir."
Ef took and examined the file. The man nodded happily.
"Starting tomorrow, take this file and apply at the Williams Group company. As Arley Williams' personal assistant," Ef said.
"W-Williams Group, didn't I hear wrong? That's the company that-"
"The one that defrauded your daddy's company," Ef interrupted.
Alexa smothered her own mouth, Ef knew a lot about her and her family. Alexa shook her head, she couldn't possibly apply for a job there, her parents would be furious if they found out.
"Why would I work there? I don't feel like working," Alexa said.
"This is the job for you Alexa. Your job right now is to be my spy, to spy on Arley Williams and his company," Ef said.
"Remember, you already signed the paper."
Again, he could not help himself when Ef reminded him of their contractual agreement.
"Currently, the CEO of the Williams Group. is looking for a personal assistant and this is your chance to get into the company, Alexa," Ef said.
What the hell was this? How could she so carelessly sign a paper that she didn't even know what would be the partnership between them.
"If I refuse, what will happen?" asked Alexa.
Ef chuckled.
"There are many losses you will receive." Ef turned the paper over and there it was clearly written, about the losses Alexa would get if she tried to break the cooperation.
"However, for now you don't need to know what those losses are," Ef said.
Alexa just sighed, hearing Ef's words. She was really trapped, it was true what her mommy said. There is not a single person in this world who can be trusted. Including Ef, the help Ef offered, made Alexa trapped in it.
"For how long will I work with you, sir?"
"I'm not sure yet," Ef replied, "ah yes, just call me Ef," Ef said.
"It sounds rude, but I'll think about it. Then you'll have to excuse me," Alexa said.
***
This morning, Alexandra was already at the Williams Group, she was escorted by Ef to get there.
"Don't be tense like that," Ef said.
It was easy for Ef to say that, while Alexa's forehead was already sweating, holding back all her fears.
"What are you thinking about? Let's hurry up and come to the front office. Tell me you're going to apply for a job as the CEO's personal assistant!" Ef ordered.
"I'm not ready yet, let's adjourn tomorrow, sir," Alexa said.
"Get out." The voice sounded very flat with a gaze fixed on Alexa.
Alexa had just arrived at the front office, when she got there she did as Ef had instructed.
"You can wait a moment, I'll call Mr. Arley's room," the staff said.
While the staff contacted Arley's room, Alexa's gaze focused on a crying woman walking towards her.
"Miss, what's wrong with you?" Alexa asked.
"I got rejected, the CEO here is so cruel."
Alexa swallowed roughly. What if she too was rejected, she had absolutely no experience whatsoever. Alexa quickly took her steps away from there.
She didn't care if Ef would scold her.
"Miss Alexa! You've been asked to come to the CEO's office!" the staff shouted.
With heavy steps, Alexa walked into the room of the CEO, whose name she already knew, Arley Williams.
"Excuse me," Alexa said.
"Walk faster, and sit down. Don't waste my time." Arley said as she looked at the clock on her wrist.
Alexa's breathing was suddenly heavy, having seen for herself how cold an Arley Williams was.
"Now I rather hope I don't get hired here," Alexa thought.
The 22-year-old walked over to Arley's desk, where the man was sitting proudly in his oversized chair.
"Sit down." Once again the man ordered Alexa to sit down. It seemed Arley did not like it when people were too slow.
"Yes, sir." Alexa sat in the chair across from Arley's desk.
"What is your name?"
"N-my name?" asked Alexa as she looked at Arley in confusion.
"It's not. The vase!" Arley's voice sounded a little high.
Making Alexa even more nervous. However, she didn't want to be made to cry by her future boss like the previous woman.
"Sir, if you want to know my name, just read this file," Alexa said, handing over her application.
"How old are you?"
"Already changed the question again. You don't even know my name," Alexa said.
Really, Alexa wanted the man in front of her to reject her outright. And ask him to leave the office immediately, at least she had a reason to give Ef if she was not the person Arley Williams needed.
Arley was furious with Alexa's answer.
"What is your experience and why would you even think of applying to be my assistant?" Arley asked. The man stared into Alexa's light blue nether regions, as if he wanted to enter them.
Under the table, Alexa's hands interlocked to hold back her nervousness.
"Answer everything!"
"Alright. Please calm down a bit," Alexa said, then took a breath and let it out softly.
"My name is Alexa, I'm 22 years old. I don't have any experience, so I want to work here. To gain experience," Alexa replied casually. She didn't need to be as serious as someone in an interview, because she hoped she wouldn't get hired.
From the gaze that was originally fixed on Alexa, Arley now focused on her laptop and simply ignored Alexa, after hearing Alexa's answer.
"He didn't say anything, really weird," Alexa muttered, which of course was still audible to Arley's ears.
"You're in."
The two words that came from Arley's mouth made Alexa's eyes widen. Had she not heard wrong? How could a company as big as the Williams Group. Accept an employee with no experience whatsoever.
"Sir, you must be joking. I have no experience as a personal assistant. I don't know what to do," Alexa said, hoping Arley would change his mind.
"I'm really looking for someone with no experience!" Arley dashed Alexa's hopes, without even looking at Alexa.
"I'll get the contract papers ready for you to sign."
As for Alexa, she sat there staring at Arley. She didn't know whether to be happy or sad.
"Come out of my room! Your room is to the left of this room," Arley said very coldly.
Alexa immediately walked out of Arley's room, she was also lazy to linger with a cold and deceitful man.
She walked into the room he said was his.
"Great," Alexa said.
"What am I supposed to do in this room?" mumbled Alexa with a confused face.
****
When the bedroom door opened, Alexa immediately turned her head in that direction. Where her mommy was standing looking at her.
"Hi Mom," Alexa greeted with a smile.
"Where have you been all day? Been gone since morning and just came home now, can't you see it's almost night!" The woman named Daisy with shoulder-length hair walked up to Alexa.
"Mom, this morning I applied for a job at a big company, and I've been accepted. I'll start working tomorrow," Alexa said excitedly.
"Mommy won't have to worry about me being unemployed anymore," Alexa added.
Daisy has always asked Alexa to work immediately, after graduating from college somehow her daughter continues to stall for time to pursue her goals that her daughter has always wanted.
"Work? Is it in a fashion company and you're the designer?" Daisy asked enthusiastically.
Alexa shook her head in response to Daisy's question.
"No." Alexa scratched her head.
"So?"
"I work for a company... interior design services," Alexa replied. She was very worried about her mommy's response.
Working in an interior design company was definitely not what she wanted, she wanted to be a fashion designer, not a designer of aesthetically pleasing rooms.
"Oh my God, didn't Mommy hear wrong?" Daisy's body suddenly weakened, hearing that her son was working in a company that was not his specialty.
"If this is how it's going to end, you'd better work for our family company," Daisy said.
"I don't want to Mom!" refused Alexa.
Alexa got up from her bed and walked over to the couch and sat on it.
"I for one refuse to work for our family company. Yes, just one, I want to be independent and-"
"Independent you say? Look at you now, where does your pocket money come from if not from us? Your style is too high to be independent!" Daisy was already getting annoyed with Alexa.
Daisy sat down next to Alexa.
"Now tell me, what is the name of the company you work for?" Daisy asked looking seriously at her daughter.
"Mommy doesn't need to know, it's just bigger than our family company," Alexa replied.
At this moment Alexa had just stepped out of the elevator that took her to the floor where her room was located. She had already seen the broad back of the man who was now her superior, walking in front of her.
Seeing Arley made her think of Ef.
"Oh my God, I haven't reported that I've been accepted to work at sani. How is this? What are my duties today and what should I report to Mr. Ef?" Alexa carried her footsteps with these questions lodged in her head.
Until the next second, she felt a pain in her forehead. Because, she had just hit something hard. Alexa smothered her own mouth when she saw what she had just hit.
"M-sorry, I didn't mean to." Alexa quickly realized in her mind that she was currently in the Williams Group company.
"How careless. Hurry up and go to your room, Alvin is waiting!" Arley exclaimed.
Alexa knitted her eyebrows together. "Who is Alvin?"
Instead of answering Alexa's question, Arley walked away from the woman. According to him, meeting Alexa that early in the morning put him in a bad mood.
"Uh, why did he just leave?" grumbled Alexa.
"Mister! Wait!" shouted Alexa.
As she was about to chase after Arley when suddenly her cell phone rang, Alexa was forced to undo her intention and immediately grabbed her cell phone from inside her bag.
"Mr. Ef?" She hurriedly answered the call.
"Hello, sir," Alexa greeted.
"Meet me right now in front of your office, I know you've started work! I'll tell you
your duties in the office."
"But sir-"
Before Alexa could object, Ef had already ended the call.
"Oh my God, how is this?"
Alexa was forced to turn Ef down and asked to meet at lunchtime. After all, it was her first day at work, wasn't it also Ef's wish who asked her to work there.
Ef should at least understand Alexa's position a little. Luckily Ef accepted Alexa's reasoning and they would meet at lunchtime.
"Finally, Mr. Ef understands too," Alexa muttered.
Afterward, she followed Arley's lead, but ended up in a different room.
Alexa opened the door to her room where a man was already inside, and sat at her desk.
"Excuse me, are you-"
"My name is Alvin, I'm Mr. Arley Williams' personal assistant," said the man named Alvin.
Wait! Alexa didn't understand, did that mean she had been fired before she started working?
"I just applied yesterday and was accepted to be Mr. Arley's personal assistant," Alexa said.
The woman still had a confused look on her face.
"Yes, I know." Alvin said very briefly with a flat face.
"Then, why are you still working here?"
"Is there anything wrong with Mr. Arley having two personal assistants?" asked Alvin.
"So, two assistants?" Alexa asked back.
"Here's a tab for you, I have all of Mr. Arley's schedule recorded there and do what you have to do." Alvin quickly left Alexandra after she accepted the tab he gave her.
Alexa stared at the tab in her hand, not confused by it, but rather why did Arley have two assistants? Was being a CEO so busy?
"I'll learn first, what my job is to be the personal assistant of a young CEO," Alexa chuckled.
The woman took her place in her work chair and began reading the tab.
"Uh, what the hell is this? Why are my duties only to prepare breakfast and lunch," Alexa muttered in the midst of her shock.
"What is this too? The rest will be direct orders from Mr. Arley," Alexa said as she read the tab screen.
Alexa looked back at her appearance, already wearing a span skirt with a floral shirt top.
"I'm already neatly dressed like this, why just prepare food. Where's the office work?"
***
Alexa rushed to Arley's room after receiving the lunch order that she had left with the OB there to buy. She actually liked her job a lot, because once she learned her job, she could sleep until Arley's lunch hour.
"Excuse me," Alexa greeted with a smile.
Arley had just taken off the glasses she usually wore while at work. She looked at Alexa who walked over to the table near the sofa.
"Put it away, I don't like messy things!"
"Yes, please enjoy your lunch, sir." Alexa stood up to face Arley.
Arley walked over to the sofa and sat down.
"Sit down," Arley pleaded.
Alexa gasped when she heard Arley's words, so she confirmed them once more.
"You mean, Mister-"
"Sit down and taste all this food first," Arley said.
Alexa still didn't understand why she had to taste food that even Arley often ate.
"What for?"
"To make sure that there is no poison in this food, you are a new employee. In case you put poison in my food," Arley said casually.
"That's fine! I may look sadistic, but my heart is sweet. How could I do something like that," Alexa said.
Slightly annoyed, she flung her butt next to Arley, and began tasting the three courses of food on the table.
"Delicious." Alexa nodded her head feeling her tongue being spoiled by the food.
Alexa turned to Arley. "Already. It's safe, look at me alright, right?"
Arley nodded slightly. "Drink too," Arley pleaded.
"God, he's so suspicious," Alexa thought.
"Sure, want me to taste it too? My lipstick will stick to the glass, sir," Alexa said.
"Hurry up."
Alexa exhaled softly, and quickly tried Arley's drink.
"That's it. I'm still fine, don't suspect me anymore. I couldn't have committed such a crime," Alexa said.
"Alright, you can come out," Arley pleaded without looking back at Alexa.
After finishing her work, Alexa hurried out of the office to the restaurant where Ef was already waiting.
"Right, this is the restaurant." Alexa read the message on her phone while staring at the name of the restaurant.
She immediately took her steps into the restaurant and was immediately directed to the vip room by the employee there, after she mentioned Ef's name.
"What the hell is there to talk about, to book a VIP room?" grumbled Alexa.
Arriving in the room, she was immediately presented with the sight of a man who was staring at her. Honestly, Alexa was more afraid to see Ef if, compared to Arley. The man in front of her seemed to be more dominating, sometimes she felt uncomfortable around Ef.
"Excuse me. Good afternoon, sir," Alexa greeted.
"Afternoon Alexa, have a seat. I've been waiting for your arrival since earlier," Ef said.
Alexa walked over to where Ef was sitting, and the woman sat down on a chair opposite Ef at a round table filled with food and drinks.
"How was your work today?" asked Ef.
"Fine, I did very well," Alexa replied feeling proud of herself.
"What do you know about Arley?" asked Ef leaning back in his chair.
Alexa thought back to Ef's question. Really, she knew nothing about the CEO of the Williams Group company.
"I don't know anything yet," Alexa replied.
"Do you know what designs he is working on and which companies he will be working with?" asked Ef.
Instead of answering, Alexa looked confused at Ef. Because, of all the questions of the man in front of her, the answer was just don't know.
Alexa shook her head, making Ef chuckle in annoyance.
"What exactly do you do there, do you just sleep?" There was a disappointed tone from Ef, as he received a shake of the head from Alexa.
"Since morning, I've only been sleeping. And my job there was just preparing Mr. Arley's lunch. I haven't gotten any work for the office like you said," Alexa replied.
"Sleeping?" Ef clenched his hands under the table. Alexa, meanwhile, just nodded.
"I asked you to spy, Arley Williams. Not to sleep and relax, Alexa!"
Alexa's chest felt so tight, she wanted to cry seeing Ef so angry with her.
"I'm new there too, Mister-"
"Yes, since you're new there, it will be easier to find out what Arley is up to. You can pretend to ask, Alexa!" Ef was furious with the young woman before him.
"I don't want to know, you have to report anything about Arley," Ef said.
Alexa sighed, she had to be able to carry out Ef's orders.
"And, this is the most important thing." Ef handed a flashdrive to Alexa.
a flashdrive to Alexa.
"What is this for?"
"Copy the important files on Arley's laptop. Don't get caught. If, failing that ... you'll know the consequences."
