SAMANTHA POV
My eyes scans the high-rise office, the mahogany desk separating my father from me.
The walls of the office are lined with screens, displaying real-time data on the stock market, and everything is read with only one answer.
My father is broke now, he had broken into the stock market a few years back and never left despite the family's warning. My mother had died from shock when they lost all their wealth the last time, and with the help of her family, they had gotten back on their feet due to me still being a little girl.
But this time, they had withdrawn their wealth long ago and again my father has lost everything to the stock market again.
"What are we going to do Daddy?" My eyes fills with tears, my mind racing with different thoughts, there is no way we can recover from this, "We can lose our house and everything we own Daddy" I shake my head confused about the plan of action.
My eyes met with my father's sunken ones, filled with stress and his shoulders sunken. My father used to be the chief titan in the financial world, but now he looked defeated, sick, and desperate to make it again.
The air smells like fresh coffee and stale papers, but it was something I was used to.
"I...I might have a solution Sam" he says, his gaze diverting from mine slightly.
I didn't know he was that desperate till the double doors behind me opens, my eyes meeting with a tall menacing figure.
His presence seemed to suck all the air out of the room, which made me feel suffocated immediately, a frown takes over my features, turning my eyes back to my father nervously.
"Who..who is this?" My voice falters, a lump in my throat forming as I stand up.
"Samantha.." he stutters, standing up as well, "Sam this is Liam Vasquez.. he says, his voice weak and trembling, "He is willing to help us out" he gulps his guilty eyes meeting with mine.
Liam's eyes locks with mine, his gaze cold and calculating, his tall and imposing figure seemed to take over the room's entire atmosphere, but he is handsome I admit, his hair dark and cut neatly, his shoulders wide and stout, the elegant black suit wrapped around his body seemed to cover his lean and muscular body.
I feel shivers down my spine, as he throws a smile at me, a smile that seemed cold and calculating.
"Samantha," he said my name like honey dripping from a jar, sweet and calm, "It's nice to finally meet you" he stretches his hand out for a handshake
I look from my father and back to his long delicate fingers, I reach my hand out to shake him, and instead of a handshake, he leaves a kiss at the back of my palm, his soft lips meeting with my skin sending shivers around my entire body.
My instincts scream at me to be cautious of him, to do anything but accept his smile, but I force a smile on my lips, "It's nice to meet you as well Liam"
My father gestures to the desk in front of us to sit, "Liam here has a proposal for us" he says with a bit of confidence in his voice.
Did our interaction cause him to be more confident?
"Liam will be investing in our hedge fund, Samantha," he says, his voice cracking, "And he is also willing to pay off all our debts" he licks his bottom lips, turning his eyes to me slowly.
"He will provide the capital we need to keep the business afloat, he will pay off the loan sharks to keep us safe", and in return, his eyes turn to me nervously, you will marry him" his gaze meets with mine finally unwavering and confident in his decision
I felt the air leave my lungs, "you can't be serious Daddy?" I say my voice filled with unbelief.
My Father knew how much I wanted to be with a man who loved me truly, I always spoke to him about a fairy tale wedding and meeting my prince charming, he wouldn't do this to me.
But as I turn to look at my father's guilty face, I know it is the truth.
Liam's expression doesn't change, his eyes looking me over, a smirk playing on his lips
"I am perfectly serious Samantha, I am not a man that jokes, I don't look like a comedian do I?" he raises a brow at me.
I feel a wave of disdain wash over my features, nausea building in my throat, "You can't be serious?" I repeat my voice filled with venom
Liam shrugs his shoulder with barely a care in the world, "Do you want to save your family's business or not? I need a wife who will abide by my rules, and do whatever I ask, whenever I ask" his eyes move over my frame making me move back in annoyance.
My eyes flash with anger turning back to my father, "Dad you can't be serious? Do you want to sell me off to the highest bidder? Who can save your business more?" I raise a brow at him, my voice rising as I speak.
My father's face morphs into one of sadness, his eyes filling with tears cracking my angry facade.
"Samantha please," he begs his voice filled with emotion, "if we don't accept Liam's proposal, we will lose everything, our business, our home, everything your mother sacrificed her life for" He shakes his head crying into his palms
I feel a pang of guilt as my eyes meet with my father, I knew he was desperate and he knew I couldn't bear to see him go through this again.
But marrying Liam? A man I didn't know? A man who looked at me like a piece on his chess board?
My eyes turns back to Liam, ruthless and cunning, a man I am sure, who would be incapable of loving no one else but himself. Being tied to him forever was a deal I couldn't accept.
But as I turn to my father, a somber expression on his face, I have to do this for him, no matter how much it would hurt me, no matter how much I didn't want to.
I sigh, my voice heavy, "I will do it" I turn my eyes away from Liam, a smirk taking over his lips.
His face lit up in triumph, as he leaned forward, "Good decision Sam" he said my name like he has known me for ages, "I will have my lawyers draw up the contract" he sends a short smile to my father turning around with even sparing a glance at me.
A knot formed in my throat as I look at his retreating back, it felt like I had just made a deal with the devil himself.
He pauses, slowly turning his head to me sending a shiver down my spine, "I will see you soon Samantha, very soon" he smirks walking out the door with the answer to my proposal in his hands.
SAMANTHA POV
My eyes rake over the entrance of the garden, the sea blowing over the sea at the edge of the backyard.
The wedding ceremony is about to begin, the planning process was quick and easy, but Liam didn't make an appearance once.
My eyes scans the backyard, searching for a familiar face but all the faces blur together in a haze of excitement, the biggest wedding of the century was about to happen
Liam Vasquez, the wealthiest man in the city with the most Elite family in the city is going to marry today, he will be joined with a woman whose father is dead broke at the moment.
The music starts and I take my cue, the white mermaid-style wedding dress wraps my body delicately, and the transparent veil covers my face, I move closer to the large double doors that block my view to the aisle, my father waiting for me at the entrance.
His guilty gaze meets with mine but I send him a reassuring smile. I was doing this for him, but I didn't want him to feel bad about my decision.
The double doors open, revealing the garden-themed wedding, flowers strung over the venue.
My eyes meet with Liam, who stands tall and imposing at the altar, a black suit wrapped around his body, his wide chest covered by a white shirt, his smile picture-perfect for the cameras.
The music slows down as I appear, the crowd standing to welcome me, my father walks me down the aisle reaching Liam.
His cool fingers grip mine delicately helping me to the high platform.
The priest sends me a smile, my eyes nervously moving to Liam's cold ones, I lick my lip nervously tuning out the words from the priest.
"Samantha?" The priest calls out my name and I turn to him confused.
"Your vows?" He raises a brow at me, a confused expression on his face.
The words pour out of my mouth, the words I practiced all night, and my eyes meet with Liam as I swallow the lump in my throat.
As I exchange my vows with Liam, my mind wanders to all the things I have to sacrifice in this marriage.
My freedom, my happiness, my job... I sigh, this will all take a back seat next to Liam's desires.
I was only here for two things, A wife to show off and a baby-making machine.
Yet as my eyes moves to his sea-green eyes, his handsome features flashing back at me, I couldn't help but feel a spark of attraction between us.
The color of his eyes, the sly smile he always had on his lips, there is just something about him that drew me in despite my fear and reservations about him.
The priest calls over for the rings, and in record time we exchange the rings, a sense of finality washes over me.
This is it, I am married to Liam Vasquez, there's no escaping him now.
The reception starts, Liam pulling me to all corners of the room, greeting guests I have never encountered In my life, billionaires and Trillionaires I never thought I would ever be in the same room with
My eyes flashes to my father, a large smile on his face, at least he is happy, the company will thrive permanently with this marriage.
The reception draws to a close soon, sending us off in a limousine to the honeymoon suite of one of the many hotels the Vasquez owns.
He escorts me into the room, his eyes flashing with intensity, "Samantha" his deep voice calls out my name seductively, as he pulls of his jacket.
"I need to use the bathroom!!" I squeak out quickly grabbing the tail of my dress to escape.
At 22 I had never been with a man, again I believed in the fairytale love story and I hoped my virginity would be given to my husband, a man I would love wholly
His cold fingers grip my arm turning me around as his arms clamp around my waist pulling me closer to his chest.
My heart races at our close ess, my eyes downcast, too shy to look him in the eyes.
He smirks, "Don't tell me you are a virgin?" he grips my chin lifting my face up to look into his charming eyes.
"I...I-" stutter
He doesn't wait for an answer, his lips claiming mine before I can reply.
Our lips merge in a hold, his fingers tracing my back to unzip my dress, I try to struggle out of his hold but he pulls me closer, his strong arms pulling me to his chest.
I relax in his hold, his embrace becoming tighter as he leads me to the bed covered with rose petals.
He pauses, detaching his lips from mine as his smile spreads, "Get naked Samantha" he instructs stepping back to watch me while I stare up at him in shock, my breaths coming out as pants.
Samantha's POV
"You have to meet up with my mother to set up the subsidiary jewelry company auction today,-" Liam pauses from his food looking up at me, "Don't forget to visit the family doctor, it's been Ten months since our wedding, I am expecting some good news right?" He raises a brow at me
I frown, my eyes downcast, my period had shown up this morning and I had no idea how to tell him this new information
"Right, Samantha?" He pauses his eyes in spots as he raises them to meet mine.
I cough grabbing my orange juice and swallowing it whole, "I don't think I am pregnant Liam" I say nervously swallowing.
In the entire Ten months of our marriage, he made it very clear he was not in love with me, he treated me coldly and the only times I could see a different part of him was when we were in bed.
He was good at it I admit, he pleasured me in ways I never thought I could, in fact, anytime he would come close to me, when his eyes would meet mine when he slipped inside of me and filled me up, I felt a spark I never thought I would feel for him.
He made my heart flutter anytime his eyes meets mine, he made the blood in my veins rush whenever his fingers would touch my skin, and my entire form filled with passion whenever his lips met mine.
But he didn't have any ounce of feelings for me, he was only attracted to me physically, he made it very clear from the very first night.
His frown deepens, "What do you mean by you don't think you're pregnant? Are you on any birth control pills that I don't know about?" He raises a brow at me slowly chewing on his food.
The air seems to come to a stop, I swallow the growing lump in my throat, "I got my period today, that's why-" I pause when his cold eyes meet mine, causing shivers to run through my veins.
"You have one job Samantha, one." He pauses dropping his fork and staring into my eyes, "And that is to give me an heir, don't fail" he says his fork dropping with a clanging sound on the plate.
"I have to head to work, don't forget to visit the doctor, maybe a fertility specialist," he says coldly walking away from the dining room, leaving me alone as he always does.
I sigh heavily, my eyes filling with tears but I don't let them fall, I won't cry, I won't be bullied by him, I refuse to.
Even if his cold attitude affects me, I look on at the wedding picture right above the wall in front of me, I can't believe I thought he would develop some feelings for me as our marriage wore on
Instead, I was the one falling deeply for him.
"Mam, Mr Liam's mother, Giselle is here" The maid walks towards me, urgency in her tone.
" I will be right out" I nod feeling painful contractions around my waist due to my period, but I don't mind it, the Vasequez don't take no for an answer, once I am asked to do something, I have to do it with immediate effect or it would all turn on my father.
"Why are you so slow? You need to be quick on your feet if you are going to be the matriarch of this family" She rolls her eyes, "We have to go and visit Liam's grandfather soon, you need to take him to the hospital" she instructs walking in front of me and leading me to the line of black SUV's waiting for me outside the house.
I nod, happy at least I got that job.
Unlike the rest of the Vasequez, Liam's grandfather was a very sweet man, he loved me like no other, much more than my supposed husband.
I love to spend time with him and listen to all his stories while I take him to the hospital for his weekly check-up, it was one of my responsibilities when I first married Liam, but it soon turned into our thing.
"After you are done at the hospital, bring him back to the Villa and then go to the company to supervise the jewels they will be bringing in for the auction, I don't want any mistakes!" She says harsly the car coming to a stop in front of the main Vasquez mansion.
We all lived in the Vasquez villa with different mansions for different people, Liam and I stay in one separately, Liam's mother stays in another and she loved to stay alone since her second son, Timothy, and husband disappeared after an accident. It made her cold and unwelcoming.
In the main villa and the largest, Grandpa Vasquez resides and not everyone can come in and out, except for the family themselves due to his safety.
"Sam my dear daughter" his weak and frail voice calls out from the wheelchair as soon as I enter the living room.
"Grandpa!" I squeal happily pulling him into a short hug, I bend to his size, his eyes meeting with mine, "How are you today Grandpa? Are you ready for your hospital visit?" I speak slowly to enable him to understand me easily
"Oh you know I don't like that place, Sam, I don't know why you all force me to go there all the time, I tell you I am really fine," he says but a cough interrupts his statement
I laugh at that, handing him a glass of water carefully.
"Yet you cough like that, come on let's go, this time we don't have to wait too long," I grab the handle of his wheelchair helping him outside.
Soon we find ourselves in the hospital, my eyes look over the pamphlets on the table, spotting the one about pregnancy.
My eyes fill with longing as I read through it, my heart breaks thinking about what Liam said this morning, if only I could just get pregnant, maybe he will finally show me some love.
I sigh thinking it through, Valentine is in a few days and I of course planned something for us, a dinner date, maybe he would soften up a bit if I plan it properly.
"Sam?" Grandpa Vasequez's voice fills my ears, I turn up my head to look at him as the nurse wheels him out of the examination room.
"You were right, it didn't take long" he laughs
"He needs a new pair of medications, please get them immediately" the nurse hands me a piece of paper directing me to the pharmacy.
I nod quickly getting the new medicine, my eyes graze over the pamphlets again and I grab the first one. Maybe Liam is right, maybe I need to see a fertility specialist.
