Chapter 1 1

I watched fascinated as a white light flashed through the sky then disappeared. I pressed my face against the window waiting for another one to appear. A booming noise caused me to jump in my seat and remove my face from the window.

"Its thunder," my father said chuckling softly.

My head immediately snapped to him. "I know that word, I remember it from a book I read, ugh, it usually follows lighting," I replied beaming proud of myself.

"Lighting, is that what you remember seeing," he replied glancing at me, his long blonde hair shaking with every move of his head.

I stare at him confused. The pronunciation did seem wrong. When mom had said it, it didn't sound like that.

"Lighting, LIGHTNING," I squealed excited.

Dad chuckled softly reaching over to ruffle my hair. His laughter boomed over the sound of heavy rainfall pounding on the car.

"That's my boy, my very smart boy," his words made my heart swell with pride and the look in his eyes made me feel like the king of the world.

The car suddenly jerked towards the railing preventing them from going towards the railing and my heart skipped a beat. My dad quickly removed his hand from head to better control the car with two hands. He pulled the car away from the railing but it happened again. My hands gripped my seatbelt tight.

A bright light appeared in front of us and the screeching sound of a car's horn. The car suddenly jerks towards the railing forcefully and slams into it. I slam my eyes shut as I felt the car seat disappear from under me. My eyes snap open as cold bites at my skin.

Darkness surrounded me as I forced my eyes to stay open, the salt in the water stinging my eyes. My arms and legs try to push at the water in an attempt to swim but I don't know how to. Large bubbles floated away from me as I tried to scream for my dad but the salt water slowly seeped into my lungs, they felt like they were about to explode. A shadow flickered in front of my blurred vision. A huge object fell into the water as well causing the wave to push me further down suddenly something sharp sailed pass me slicing my cheek in the process. And a light shined from the surface above and hope hugged my heart until I felt something grabbed my feet and the light slowly got smaller and smaller.

I gasped awake and found my mouth full of sand. I hurriedly spit it out and move away from that area. A cold moist substance touched my foot immediately I pulled my feet away and look at the source of the moistness only to breath a sigh of relief when I realized it's just water. I also realize that I was naked and there were two people coming towards me a man and a woman. Looking around for my clothes I found nothing but a bundle of seaweed hurriedly I hid myself just as they reached me.

"Are you ok young man," the female stranger asked.

I opened my mouth to answer but it wasn't my voice that came out, " yes, I'm fine thank you," I sounded like I had a cold, my voice was so deep.

"Aren't you a little too young to be partying with the seniors though how old are you, 15, 16," the male stranger said.

Confused I said, " actually I'm 10." They both looked at each other with a knowing look before the male reached into his bag and took out some extra clothes and handed them to me.

"Put some clothes on, we'll take you to the police station."

Thankful I accepted the clothes and hurriedly put them on, they were a size too big who was I to complain it was clothes. It was weird that he had an extra pair if clothes in his bag but let's be honest who was weirder me or him at the moment. The strangers names was Dan and Chelsey. They were currently taking me to the police station and Chelsey kept on saying that I wasn't in any trouble which was very suspicious.

Also three was a bag of chains in a bag lying on floor of the car. Chelsey is very talkative and has been telling me about their lives. Why, I don't know I mean I could probably be a serial killer. They were married and had a daughter who was turning 19 in a few days. She was the star that lit up their lives and they were very proud of what she is, what she will become. Is what Chelsea told me word for word. You see when your in a car with strangers you should pay close attention to them that was the second thing my dad taught me. The first hasn't occurred yet.

"What's your name son," Dan asked.

I sat their for a while before I said, "Charles....................Seamos."

They car swivered a bit before straightening again. Suddenly I saw a flash of light and rain before I felt someone shake me. I stared at the hand on my shoulder before slowly looking toward the person who touched me. One side of his hair was uniformly black and the other side was white even his mustache was just like the hair on his head. One of his eyes were green and the other was brown. Was I in the right place? Why was everyone so weird?

"Hello son, Dan and Chelsey told me about your...ah.... situation and I have few questions to ask you," the odd man says while sitting down in the chair in front of me.

He looked uncomfortable because he kept glancing at the door every now and then and his questions were even more confusing. On his shirt was a badge that read sheriff.

"Have you ever consumed drugs," he asked glancing up.

"Ah no", I replied creasing my forehead.

"Have you ever consumed alcohol," he asked now staring at me dead in the eyes.

"No, wouldn't that kill a person," I replied staring back at him confused.

He smiled and continued to ask his weird questions.

"Ok, that's enough questions for today, there is someone coming to see you but if they deny that they know you, well, you'll spend the time here until further notice," the man said then got up and walked through the door. I sat their wondering if the person coming for me was my father, I wonder if he was ok and if he had washed up on a beach just like I did. As I think back to the happenings of the day I started to wonder if I had blacked out on the way to the police station because I didn't remember anything. I slowly stood up and walked around the room. I catch a glimpse of my reflection in a mirror. I looked taller and older, I looked different. It was terrifying, what happened to me, it's like I was a different person. I reached my hand up to touch my face but was interrupted by the door being burst open and a woman rushed in, a woman I never thought I'd sees again.

"Mom," I said feeling a tear run down my cheek.

"Charles," my mother says tears pouring down her face as she met me in an embrace, we stayed like that for a while before we pulled away simultaneously and said at the same time:

"Where is dad?"

"Where were you," she started and finished sadly as she heard what I said "all this time."

"Son your father didn't survived the crash and you were lost at sea for 5 years," his mother said quietly. And that's how my life got so much worst than it already was.

Chapter 2

My dad is dead, he died in a car crash 5 years ago and I was in the same car but instead got lost at sea. Lost at sea upon to this moment I still don't understand how someone could get lost at sea for 5 years. It doesn't add up it just doesn't in more ways than one. My mother remarried because according to her therapist she needed to move on and it was also bad for her health. What an amazing excuse right just as it was a wonderful excuse to stop looking for your son.

Those were the thoughts currently swimming around in my scrambled brain as I lay in my new bed, in a new room, in a different house staring blankly at the ceiling. She remarried, she moved, she started a new life without me, without dad but with a huge smile on her face.

I chuckled softly as I really thought about the past few days. It's been two days since I woke up on that beach and it was truly hilarious.

After my mom and I had left the police station, she drove me to her new house and all in a rush she told me all the new things that have changed, including her new house, life and new town. We no longer lived in the little town of Orange Cove instead we were living in a huge town called Midpoint. I felt like she was betraying dad a little when she said she remarried but I realized she was just doing what was best for her but not us.

When we reached her new house she introduced me to her new husband who I just stared at blankly when he offered me his hand. In my defense I had the right to be cold and its not like I'm a social person anyway. He had a son but he wasn't their to greet me and I didn't want to meet him either.

The day after that mom took me to the hospital were the doctor said I was healthy, physically anyway. Which was very odd according to him, he also prescribed a lot of medication. Then we went shopping at a huge mall for new clothes because the clothes that was supposedly lent to me by my step brother were too big. I just stood and stared, my mom did all the talking.

We drove around for hours after that talking mostly mom though, I just looked out the window and listened. She then drove us home and finally I met Zander the mysterious step brother who liked to party. He turned out to be mean like I had anticipated.

Other than those things I was learning to be a teenager which was very embarrassing but I was doing well in my opinion watching teen movies and skipping through books, playing games and touring the house. My step dad also gave me a notebook to write my thoughts in but I think I'd rather talk to myself aloud than write down what I'm thinking. My thoughts are way too scrambled for that.

"Why am I making my mom the bad guy," I whispered aloud staring at my bedroom ceiling. "She did nothing wrong," I said to myself but she gave up hope, she forgot about me. "No, if she had given up she wouldn't have came to pick me up at the police station."

I slowly got out of bed and walked out of my room in the direction that I thought the kitchen was. The staircase came into view when I heard Zanders voice speaking.

"Yow, party at my place, you call the girls and I'll get the drinks," he said.

Of course he'd throw a party in the absence of our parents who were unsurprisingly on a date. Why was my mom avoiding me, I don't know. Though I couldn't say that I wasn't a little excited to see if the movies were different from real life.

Continuing on my way to the kitchen, I walk down the stairs and was just about to walk across the living room and into the kitchen when I heard a knocking coming from the door.

"Who even knocks anymore," I whisper to myself, feeling confused and crazy since I've been talking to myself a lot lately.

I slowly walk towards the door it was frightening especially after watching so many different types of movies with a few starting just like this moment. Finally reaching the door, I take a deep breath, I was no longer a 10 year old kid, I am 15 years old who has been partially prepared by watching too much movies. A soft chuckle escaped my lips, I'm so funny.

Shaking my head rapidly, I slowly opened the door. A girl with pale green eyes and shiny black hair stood in front of me with a huge smile on her face. She suddenly throw herself at me, her arms wrapped tightly around my body. She then pulled away.

"Hello," the girl practically yells.

As if on cue I hear Zander walking down the stairs.

"Ah, whose your friend," he asks.

"I don't know her," I stated glancing at his appearance. He was wearing a white T-shirt with a black ripped jeans with a silver chain hanging from his left pocket. He reeked of perfume which could only mean one thing, he didn't shower.

"Well, come in then sweetheart, I mean the party hasn't started yet but we can start it if you like," Zander said motioning up to his room. What's that phrase they use again, ohh yeah, he has no game whatsoever.

The girl looked at him confused then glanced at me expectantly then glances back at him then back at me and shakes her head. Indicating that she wanted my help.

"She doesn't speak fluent English," I told Sander who scratched his head confused. I motioned for the girl to come in. Her green eyes widen and she enters hesitantly. I closed the door softly before turning to look at Zander who was probably trying to figure out a Spanish word.

He thinks for a second before finally saying, "ugh, merci, anyway Chuck imma need you to stay in your room for the rest of the evening cause I'm having a couple of friends over and ah since señorita over here is not your friend then she can be my date," he said giving the girl a horrible wink at the end before walking off in the direction of the basement.

Silence then flows through the air. I turn to look at the girl to already see her staring at me.

"Ok," I said before briskly walking towards the kitchen almost breaking my foot in the process as I narrowly escape the couch.

I make my way into the kitchen and open the fridge. I start pulling out random ingredients before I'm roughly pulled out of the fridge and slammed roughly against.

"Our people are in trouble and we need your help," she said with a strange accent, her large green eyes staring at me. Lunacy, it was written in her eyes. This chic was crazy.

"Are you alright," I asked her cautiously.

"Charles, you have to listen to me, the sirens have taken all the mermen," she yells at me clearly frustrated.

"Uhm, is that a gang or are you just playing a prank on me, did Zander put you up to this. I mean I know he doesn't like me but I thought we were cool, oh wait your quoting a famous movie aren't you, must be," I rant slowly removing self her grip trying not to make it too obvious I'm going to bolt. Two crazy people in one room was a hazard.

A huge smile appear on my face.

I was too slow to make it out though because no sooner had I escaped her grip she latched onto me even tighter.

"What did they do to you, don't you remember us," she asked looking into my eyes hopefully," don't you remember me."

"I....I'm....I have amnesia," I said trying to contain my laughter. Why was I laughing I had no idea. This girl didn't seem all that worried though.

"I can't remember anything from 5 years ago, that is when we met right, do you know what happened to me," I asked all my laughter stopped when I saw her confused expression on her face and I became curious.

"Yes, my mother and I found you, we were surprised you were even alive and that you could even breathe under water, but you were special, you were touched by the sea," she says drawing little circles on my skin.

"Look I don't know what your talking about but I can't breathe under water, I can't even swim," I stated calmly her forehead creased.

She opened her mouth to talk but was stopped as a bunch of teenagers start pouring through the front door. Taking that as my cue to leave I run up the stairs and into my room slamming the door and locking it behind me.

I lean against the door and slowly slide down. Shaking my head, mermaids ha, unbelievable.

Chapter 3

The party was on a full swing around 10 o'clock in the night, every now and again I would see the knob to my door turning from where I sat on my bed. My new room was a very dark shade of blue that reminded me of the night sky. I think it was meant to make me sleep better but its not like I did much of that anyway. It was comfortable but different and I wasn't too sure if it was a good different.

"It could use a little green though," I whispered to myself.

Music was blasting downstairs and all I could think about was those big green eyes.

"What the heck am I saying," I whisper to myself feeling like a mad person talking to myself.

I sigh as I get up of my bed and I walk towards the bathroom and trip on one my many pieces of clothing on the floor. Finally making it to the bathroom in one piece, I take of my shirt and throw it onto the growing bundle of clothes in my room.

I turn to the mirror and stop. Grey eyes stare back at me, a strand of curly short black hair hang idle over my left eye, my sun kissed skin complimenting my hair flawless, an arched scar sat on my right cheek making me look so much older than my actual age and not to mention my lean figure which is kind of cool but still creepy. I mean how did I a scrawny little boy grow all this muscle. It was just too crazy. As I continue admiring myself. That mermaid theory could have particularly explained this. I chuckle as I realize what I'm doing.

"Gee, I wonder if I was at an asylum all these years," I say to myself after I had stopped laughing," I really need to stop talking to myself," I sigh.

Mermaids, Zander really doesn't like me. I say thinking back to the girl from earlier. I didn't know what to think, she seemed like she believed everyone word that she was saying but didn't mean that I had to believe them. I glare at myself in the mirror. I think I should have talked to her what if she jumped off into the ocean and drowned.

You can breathe under water she said staring at me with her sad eyes, not that she had sad eyes, she had very pretty eyes actually.

"What am I thinking, eww," I barf at myself.

I sigh, I was going to turn into an old man soon if I didn't stop sighing. I turned around and leaned on the sink and looked around the my bathroom. "Perks of having a rich step dad," my eyes stopped suddenly at the bathtub full of clear water. It was large enough to bathe 5 people with reasonable distance between them. Big enough to hold a tail.

10 year old me was telling me to go for it, see if the weird girl was right while 15 year old me was like go downstairs and crash the party and the latter was my mom's voice telling me to go to bed because it was past my bedtime but why should I listen to her when she gave up on me.I could do both, couldn't I, it wasn't like tomorrow was a school day. Its not like I knew when was a school day either considering no one (mom) was ever around to talk to me about it. Zander was also down their. If I crashed his party he would kill me and I didn't really feel like getting on his bad side.

"I'll just spend a hour and avoid Zander at all cost," I say to myself.

Coming to a conclusion I walk out of the bathroom and go straight to my closet that was still full of clothing despite the heap in my bedroom. I pull on a red hoody and throw the hood over my head and walked out of my room. I locked my door and put my keys in my front pocket. I walked towards the staircase and freezed at the top. It was too late to chicken out because two girls were making their way up the stairs.

"Hi, can you show us where the upstairs living room is," one of the girls coming up the stairs asks kindly. Her friend looked at me from head to toe before reaching up and pulling my hood back. I was mesmerized by her light brown eyes that seemed to glisten in the light and her scarlet lips that complimented her bronze skin. She stared in my eyes and I stare in hers. Hers glistening with mischief.

"Or you could just show us," the friend says while tracing my scar with her fingers and in a flash instead of light brown eyes I see pale green ones. Shaking my head I step away from her.

"Sure."

"So lead the way," the girl says shaking her head at her friend.

I turn around and walk towards the upstairs living room, deep in my thoughts. This was the second or maybe the third I had these flashes and when it wasn't flashes it was weird dreams or nightmares. First it was about the accident that was recurring before it changed to a beach on an unknown island. I wonder if it was because of my amnesia.

"So, what's your name," the friend asked, pulling me out of my thoughts and I was really getting tired of calling her that.

"Charles."

"Well Charles, my name is Willa and that's my friend Hailey," she says attaching herself to my left arm. Hailey snorted from behind us. I glance at her to see her silently laughing. Her long curly hair seemed to laugh with her. She glanced up and stared at me with bright brown eyes before lowering her eyes.

Girls were very weird.

Turning around I was surprised to see that on our way to the living room their was no one loitering or smoking weed or laying drunk on the floor. I sigh disappointed, I was really expecting to be so much more fun.

"This is it," I say stopping in front of the living room door. The soft sound of music was heard from behind it. I pull my hood over my head again and removed my arm from Willa's grip.

She pouted sadly, "why don't you come with us, I'm sure you were invited since you made it pass that bouncer."

She must of seen the confused look on my face, since she said " the upstairs living room are for VIPs or popular kids." Wow, I take back everything I said cause this was very cliché.

"Is Zander in their?" I ask cautiously not wanting this adventure to be short lived.

Willa and Hailey laughed, "Zander, he fell asleep hours ago, after he finished his drunken rage."
