Sold Myself To A Billionaire

Emily breathed a sigh of relief as she stepped on the elevator of the tallest sky scrapper in town. Finally her adopted family had allowed her to work in the company.

Davis group of companies was one of the most famous real estate companies in town and it is also the most sought after in the city. With Billions of money trading in the stock exchange they were considered one of the richest families around.

Matt Davis was the president of the company and it was being managed by Ruth Davis.

Emily was going to be the secretary of Ruth Davis whom she knew never liked her from the day she was brought from the orphanage. Ruth never gave her any motherly love, all her attention was focused on her biological daughter whom she gave birth to a year after she was adopted.

In her heart, Emily knew that she agreed to let her work in the company in order to make her life miserable. But she was going to be patient and save as much money as possible so that she can be independent and live her own life.

"Why are you late?" Ruth asked in a stern and disgusted voice

"The traffic was slow and I couldn't get here on time."

The truth is that she woke up early and ran to the bus station to take the usual bus to the office but she was told by other passengers that the bus was having a mechanical issues so it delayed for another 30 minutes.

Since she was short on cash and it was her first day at work she had to wait patiently knowing that when she reaches the office she will not avoid the wrath of Ruth.

She couldn't help but tremble with the thought of the terrible things that she had done to her in the past. It was still fresh in her mind and gave her nightmares every single day.

"I don't like inefficient and lazy people, if you dare mess up in my company I will have no option but to fire you right away."

"Yes I understand"

"Come on get out of my sight. Look at the cheap dress you are wearing. This girl will drive me crazy one day."

Emily slowly turned around and left to go back to her office. She felt warm tears form on her eyes but she had to be strong. She was not going to show any weakness in front of the heartless woman.

But it was hard for her to get employment in other companies as she had no connections and the only option she has right now was to endure all the pain she was going to pass through for the hope of a better future.

As if it wasn't enough humiliation for the day, she bumped in to Nina Davis on her way to her office, despite her young age she had a more superior role in the company. She was the designer of the company.

"You low life, what are you doing in my company?"

"Please Nina I don't want trouble, can we put aside our grudges and be sisters for once in our lives? I am really tired of all this."

"You don't have the final say here. I don't even know why my mother allowed you to work here. But I promise you that it will not be easy for you here."

The other employees who left their chores were now keenly looking at the scene before them. Even though they pitied the new comer they didn't have any choice but to shut their mouth. Nina was the devil herself and she will not hesitate to fire anyone who comes on her way.

"What are you people staring at? Come on go back to work before I fire all of you" she shouted

Every one bowed their heads down and pretended to go back to work and immediately she left, Emily heard low voices commenting on what has just happened.

"Who is that chubby girl?" One of the workers asked

"I heard a rumor that she is the adopted daughter of the boss."

"Oh.... She is being bullied by that heartless Nina and I really pity her right now"

Emily heard all the comments but she assumed them and continued to focus on her work, she didn't want any trouble the only thing to do was to shut up and pretend.

At the end of the day, Emily had only managed to make one friend. The rest of the employees only looked down upon her and didn't want to associate themselves with her.

Mira was not a very social girl but she kind of liked Emily. She wanted to protect her from all those people who wanted to hurt her and so she vowed to be her friend even if everyone else disapproved.

"Emily, let us walk to the bus stop together"

"You really don't mind? She asked." I have noticed that others don't want to associate themselves with me. Don't you think you will be in a lot of trouble?"

"They can go to hell for all I care what matters is that I like you and nobody is going to change that"

"For the first time in the whole day Emily managed to smile and felt all the burden on her shoulders loosens. Despite all the day challenges she had gained one good friend."

"This is where we part our ways but remembers I am your friend, count on me for whatever you need from now on wards."

"Thank you"

She gave Emily a peck on the cheeks and left.

When she opened the front door of the house, she heard voices chatting in the living room. All the voices were all familiar, but one voice particularly caught her interest. It was none other than her longtime boyfriend Toby Roberts.

She couldn't help but move closer and what she saw broke her heart in to tiny pieces. He was hugging and kissing Nina Davis. This was the last thing she expected from him. She loved him and was so hopeful for the future they were going to have together.

Tears that she had been holding for the whole day now flowed freely on her face as she asked in a shaking voice.

"How could you Nina? I have left everything for you but you had to mess up with the only thing that was important to me. It wasn't enough that you have the love of our parents, what did I ever do to you?"

Before she could finish what she was saying, a slap landed on her face, she couldn't even remember how many time the same hand had slapped her. She touched her cheeks with her hands and tried to caress it as it was already burning with pain. But this was all, she had it up to her throat and she wasn't ready to deal with them any more

"You don't have any right to talk to my daughter like that. Have some little respect because you are the only outsider here" Matt Davis growled.

Emily lifted her head and looked at Toby with tears in her eyes, but he just ignored her and continued to put his hands on Nina's shoulder. He was acting different and she couldn't believe that yesterday he was just telling her how much he loved her

"What? Don't look at me like that. I don't love you anymore. You are nothing but a burden to me." Toby said with impatient in his voice

"But you promised to stay with me forever."

"Look at me very well. I am about to become the next president in my family company. I don't need a weakling like you without any money to her name. Nina is good for me and I just realized that I love her."

"Yes Emily, we love each other and we will be getting married soon" Nina couldn't help but throw it in her face. She loved her humiliation so much that she went ahead and kissed him passionately in front of her.

"Toby you stand there and say all this to me, after I have given everything for your sake. I am going to say this for the first and last time. As long as I live I will never forgive you."

"Who needs you forgiveness?" Toby sneered

"Emily, Ruth finally called. I hate the day I brought you in to this house. You have been nothing but a disappointment to all of us in this house. In fact I want you out of this house and out of my company.

This was the last straw, she didn't expect all this to happen to her all in a day. She was now homeless with no job at all. How is she going to survive?

But she swore that she was going to make them pay no matter what.

"Don't worry I was already on my way out. I do not want to keep seeing your face either" She turned to go pack her few belongings. At the back of her mind she didn't even know where she was going to go but she had to leave and figure out something.

"You can go sleep under a bridge for all I care." She heard Nina say.

When she stepped out of the house, she was surrounded by so much darkness and the wind was blowing like crazy. This particular day was a winter season and it was unusually cold outside. The only thing on her mind was to get as far away from the house as soon as possible.

But she was sad for leaving suddenly because there was one person who has really treated her well since she arrived in the Davis house. Her grandmother, she was the only person she could run to whenever things were not going well.

Grandmother Martha always had a way of making her feel better even if she was in trouble and she promised that she will be there for her no matter what. She never approved of how her son and his wife mistreated Emily.

Now a single tear travelled down her cheeks as she remembered her fondly.

"I will miss you grandma. I promise I will come back one day just for you. Right now I have to leave"

The first thought that came to her mind was to go to the bar and drown her sorrows. She had heard from the few people she had interacted with during her university days that alcohol makes you forget your worries.

Emily was an innocent girl, but today she wanted to be very bad. She had never had any alcohol in her life but there was always a first time for everything.

She remembered that she had Mira's phone number and decided to call her to be her companion.

"Hello Mira"

"Yes Emily, how can I help you?"

"I really need your help. Do you mind coming out for a drink. I am in trouble?"

"Gosh Emily what happened? You can just come over to my place and we can talk about it and find a solution. Don't do anything hasty."

"It wasn't my wish to disturb you at this hour of the night but you are the only friend I have. Please come to the Homeland Bar I really need to get something out of my system."

"Alright wait for me I will be on my way"

Mira came shortly after she arrived at the bar with her luggage, Emily had some money on her and she was going to spend it all in the alcohol.

It was the most expensive bar in the town and several influential people frequented it. But that was the least of her problem as she had a plan in her mind and she was hoping that Mira could help her.

They sat down at the counter and ordered the bar attendant to give them something strong.

"Slow down Emily, You have no experience in drinking at least start with something with less alcohol like a beer."

"Alright bar man give us what my friend has recommended for me."

The bar attendant smiled and handed the ladies each a bottle of beer. Emily just took one and she was already drunk,

"Now talk" Mira demanded.

"I have been thrown out of the house and fired from the company. I have no boyfriend as he claims that my sister is better than me and I am a loser who will only drag him behind."

"Those people are so heartless, you haven't even worked for the company for two days and you have already been fired. "

"But I cannot keep quiet anymore for all the things that they have done for me. I am going to revenge and no one will be spared. I swear they will all pay for all that they have put me through."

"Oh....Emily, when you talk like that I really start to get worried, but tell me what you have in mind. You have my unconditional support and I will help you as much as I can."

"I need you to connect me to the Richest Billionaire in the city. I will be a faithful wife for him, in exchange of him giving me enough capital to start my own real estate company. Can you imagine I am also a designer and I have helped Nina to excel in several cases but she took all the glory and despised me."

"I want to show them that even a faithful dog has her own limits and I am very confident with my abilities I will excel."

"Oh....Emily has it come to this. Is there any other way?"

"I wish there was but I have tried"

Just as they were still in deep discussion a certain man walked in and went straight to the private room. Mira had interacted with a lot of influential people because of her public relations officer role at the Davis Corporation. So she recognized the man immediately and signaled Emily to take a close look at him.

"Do you see that hot guy, he is mysterious but I know he is very wealthy. He can give you what you want because among other businesses he owns a very successful investment company with a net worth of 100 billion dollars."

"He is so unapproachable, look at how little interest he shows all those ladies lusting over him? However he is very handsome more than even that jerk of my ex-boyfriend who humiliated me in the worst way possible" Emily commented.

"He is currently a bachelor, so try to gain as much courage as you can so you can go talk to him. I heard that he is not easy to please, so I would advise that you be careful with how you want to approach him. Emily, I wish that there was something else that we can do apart from this."

"Alright, don't worry my friend. My mind is made up and even though I already know that I don't deserve him, I won't give up that easily"

Emily took one more sip from her bottle and stood up .She was a little unsteady but she couldn't let this chance slip away. She was going to show Nina and her parents what she is made of.

She found the guy just relaxing on his chair with his eyes closed. He was so handsome with a perfect jawline which was being illuminated with the dim light in the room. His hair was slightly short and it seemed like he just had a haircut as it was neatly arranged.

She was still staring at him in a daze when she heard a deep voice talking.

"What do you want?"

But he was sleeping right now, when did he open his eyes? She was still dumbfounded and the words that she wanted to utter stuck on her throat.

"Little girl please speak. You are disturbing my peace." He said with a calm and emotionless voice

She gave him a little seductive smile and seeing that he was not moved at all she went ahead and sat on his side earning a very cold stare from him that made her tremble all over her body. She has faced so many challenges in her life and this was just one of them to which she will not miss to pass.

"You are very handsome, I only wish to get married to you."

"Oh....really, do you think that you meet all the qualifications that I want in my woman?" He asked and then looked her all over from her head to her toes. The guy didn't even blink his cold eyes as he scanned her body and she started panicking that he would reject her. She was wearing very cheap clothes that made her feel embarrassed at that particular moment

She was taken a back and just kept quiet

Richard Weller noticed that the woman in front of her was exceptionally beautiful with thick lips and beautiful brown eyes. Although she didn't wear any makeup she was still pretty. For once he had come across a woman who was not afraid to show her natural features.

He had always been surrounded by superficial women who have turned their bodies in to plastic surgery toys. He hated them, but this specific one had managed to attract his interest.

"Come to the civil affairs bureau tomorrow and we will get our marriage certificate" He said while looking at her coldly.

She breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't even know his name, but that didn't matter at all. What mattered is that the first part of the plan is already on.

The man stood up and left the room leaving her still wondering whether she was going to get married or not.

"I can't believe I just proposed to a total stranger Mira. Oh....what have I done?"

"Oh...God you are so amazing, I admire your courage. Who could have thought that after all that those people did to you, you can still hold your head high and conquer the guy?" Mira said while hugging her tightly on the shoulders.

"I didn't conquer him, I think he just felt pity for me but I don't care, what mattered is that my plan works out. However what worries me is will he even accept to help me after he learns that I married him for money purposes? Oh....No I really hope that I won't disgust him so much."

"Come on girl lets go sleep at my place and we will prepare for tomorrow's occasion. I promise I will always be by your side."

That night Emily couldn't sleep at all. She kept on turning and tossing all through the night reminiscing on how her life has turned out to be. One thing in her mind was that she will never return to Davis family again, if this man was the only way out then she will gladly endure anything from him

Now she was going to marry without love in the hope of building her own business which has always been her childhood dream.

Then dawn came and she wore a simple white dress .She hailed a taxi to take her to the civil registry bureau office. Mira couldn't come with her because she was going to work and she understood.

On her way to the offices her heart was beating very fast as she wondered if the man will really appear as he had promised .He could have easily played a prank on her without her noticing since she was so much consumed in her search for revenge.

As surprised as she may be, the man was there on time and as she climbed the stairs leading to the lobby, he was standing right on the entrance looking tall and handsome. She couldn't believe that out of all the beautiful ladies around, she had the opportunity to get married to him.

"Hello! Let us go inside." He muttered

"Alright"

She walked behind him as he took long stride to the room where they were supposed to sign their marriage certificate. Up to now it hasn't dawned on her that she was getting married to the richest man on earth and that was going to be the start of a new life.

After a while they stood on the lobby looking at the red certificate in their hands, each one of them reading the names written on the paper for the first time. His expression was emotionless and she didn't even know whether he was thrilled with the news or not. As for her, she was glad that finally she had found someone to consider as hers.

Finally he lifted his gaze and talked.

"Emily, here is my address you can go at any time of the day."

"Thank you."

Before he turned to go he took out a set of keys from his side pocket and gave them to her.

"You can use these keys to open the door when you arrive."

If he knew how Emily was so grateful, he just assumed .She was dying of happiness knowing that from now onwards she will have a home of her own and nobody is ever going to bully her again. She will be a good wife to the man who has saved her life.

In the evening when Emily arrived at the address that she was given, it was dark all over which meant that Richard was still at work. She opened the door and let herself in to the house.

It was the most beautiful house she has ever laid her eyes on. The designs used were simple yet brought out a sophisticated and luxurious feeling. The walls were painted white and grey which matched with the furnishings perfectly.

Now the hardest thing was where to sleep. They were total strangers and wondered whether it would be okay with him if she slept on the master bedroom.

No it wasn't okay, she didn't want to share a bed with him too.

So she sat on the living room and waited for him.

It was almost mid night when his car finally pulled on the drive way. He opened the door and found her sleeping on the sofa. She was tired from yesterday activities and the moment she put her head on the chair to rest for a while, sleep just came from nowhere.
