Chapter one: the wedding Fiasco

I will never marry her. Jake retorted with absolute finality.

I have been telling her in many different ways that I don't love her but she wouldn't or she refused to listen.

Now I am really forced to do this because I don't have any other options than to show my disapproval of this marriage.

What are you saying Jake? His mother asked with eyes bulging in shock.

She is not the one I want to marry but Rose. Jake replied.

But you consented to this marriage without any fuse, why Is this development coming up now or have you finally decided to smear our family in shame. Catherine,Jake's mother queried?

I told you and Dad and all the members of the family that I don't really love Cecelia,but you all took it as a joke. How can I really settle with someone I don't have feelings for Mum. Jake Concluded.

So you have decided to use this Day to Humiliate my Daughter right. Cecelia Mother, Betty Cadozo Declared with anger in her Tone.

Wait, let's get this thing straight.

Jacob Cadozo, Cecelia and Rose's father is a retired Historian professor who doesn't believe in the old age notion of arranging marriage for younger folks. Which is why he had listened intently to Jake a week ago when he had called him personally to tell him that he would not be marrying Cecelia his Daughter because he doesn't have any iota of feelings for her but Rose the Younger daughter whom happened to be one of his students in music Department, University of California.

Sir, with all due respect I have called you after a futile attempt to make my family and your Daughter,Celelia understand that I don't love her and can't really be her husband.such marriage will be like a prison for both of us.

But if you would give me your permission,I would marry your Second Daughter,Rose.

I have tried letting her know that she is the one I really love and will willingly get married to her,but she keeps insisting that I'm getting married to her older sister and should get the thought of her out of my head.

I Jake, will only get married to Rose, your second Daughter on that wedding Day or nothing. He finished with finality in his tone.

Jacob breathed inwardly, he is not an advocate of forced marriage and wouldn't tolerate it no matter who might be involved.

Ok Jake,if you're certain that it's Rose you really want to spend the rest of your life with, Declare your love and affection for her in public and I will get you two married.

He replied intently before hanging up the phone.

So on this particular day he is going to give Jake Chandler a chance to make everyone understand the rationale behind his decisions.

Wait let's get things straight. Jacob repeated. Allow the young man an audience, this is not the time for shouting feat.

Jake Chandler walked Confidently to the center of the gathering stopping at the foot of the altar he blurted out , I Don't love Cecilia and won't spend the rest of my life with her. Then he glanced at the center of the altar where Cecelia was staring at him with dismay written all over her face.

Cecelia,he said, I see you as a very good dancer but I have never harboured any thought of spending my life with you.i do not love you, so such a loveless marriage will be like a prison yard for both of us.

I have tried in several ways to make you understand that but you seem not to take me seriously. Thus I have no other way but this to stop this marriage from taking place. Please understand my position here.

He then turned and faced Rose, his face alight like the rising moon lit. Rose,he began, I have always loved you and I have made my feelings for you very clear. You are the only one I want to get married to and spend the rest of my life with,if you would marry me right here on this very altar,I would be the happiest man in this city of California.

It's either you or no one else.

Either I walk out here with you as my wife or I walk out without a wife.he Concluded with seriousness .

There was a massive murmuring from the audience, this was an unexpected twist of events.

Rose,backed away like someone that just received a sucker punch and reeling to regain balance.

She looked alluring in an embroidered wedding dress that has a touch of silver at the helm.

Earlier, her father had insisted that she put on a really nice wedding cloth for this particular occasion, emphasizing that she deserves to be happy and not be living under the oppressive shadow of the elder sister,Cecelia.

"Now she knows why."

She opened her mouth to protest,

How can I marry you sir, your supposed to be marrying my elder sister,

I have told you before, that I have no feelings for you or any other man. I just want to Continue my Education without drama.

Right at that moment Cecelia interjected,

Look Rose,she said,

You have to marry him otherwise,he will leave since he doesn't want me.

But Cecelia.....Rose started saying,

There is no "But",

Cecelia Cut her off, just go ahead and marry him. He said, he loves you.

Jacob Cadozo, their father came closer to Rose, Dear, he said, nudging at her younger daughter's shoulder, Jake says he loves you and only you he would get married to on this altar. I can see he really cherishes you very much.

And from the look of it the way you always talk about how he has been helping you with your studies and him being a good professor tells me that you like him, so why not allow him to marry you.

But Dad, what about my Education?

Rose asked with Curiosity.

Her father put his hand on her shoulder assuring her, of course you will continue with your Education. Nobody is stopping you from that. He answered her.

She looked at her elder sister, Cecelia and she nodded her approval, Reassuring her that she has no issue with her marrying Jake.

Rose then turned to Jake and said, Ok. I will marry you.

Jake smiled sheepishly at her like a Boy who received an expensive toy as a Christmas Gift.

Jake's mother, Catherine looked at Rose with disgust, she has always considered Cecelia her Daughter in-law and it's finding it hard to swallow this New unfolding Development. But there is nothing even she can do about the situation at hand.

Jacob led her younger daughter, Rose to the front Altar where she exchanged wedding vows with Jake Chandler . He was still wondering what might be going on in his eldest daughter's mind and why she gave in to her sister getting married to Jake, knowing her to be a very cunning and two faced person.

He knew something else would surely be coming up ahead but he was determined to protect her younger daughter.

Come what may.

Chapter Two: welcoming the bride.

The Chandler Mansion is a massive Edifice covering a large expanse of land with beautiful aesthetic flowers surrounding the imposing Mansion.

Louis and Catherine Chandler are Renowned Medical Doctors, and the Chandler Family even have their Own personal Hospital. Their Eldest and only son Jake Chandler is a professor of Music in the University of California. Which is where Jake met Rose,who happens to be a music and history student in the University. At first it was just teacher and student admiration but as Jake spares some time after Class to have Conversations with Rose, he begins to discover some attributes and qualities Rose possessed. Little by little he fell for Rose and before he knew it, was calling her always with the guise of making sure she is doing her assignments.

As is the Family Tradition of the Chandler, any Newly wedded bride must be properly welcomed by the whole Family members to inculcate her fully to the family trees .

A Mercedes Benz car screeched to a halt in front of the Mansion.

Jake Chandler alighted with aplomb.

Hey Scotty, he bellowed to the head servant, make sure everything is in order before Rose Entourage arrives. I don't want surprises.

Ok sir, replied Scotty as he scurried off to the back of the huge mansion.

Jake himself went in through the Front door to wait for his parents. He already knows that Rose is not in the good books of his Mother. But he was not bothered about that at the moment.

Minutes later a BMW Car parked in front of the Mansion. Louis and Catherine Chandler got out of the Car.

A Male servant Greeted them. Welcome Sir, Madame, and Catherine Waved him away as she and Louis entered the house, She is yet to come to terms with what has happened 2 hours ago.

After the Chandler Left Rose Father, Jacob Cadozo had insisted in driving her younger daughter to his in laws house himself, and Cecelia the elder sister has offered to follow them to have her younger sister settle down easily despite what happened to her, she had insisted it is her responsibility to make her younger sister Comfortable.

Jacobs Car halted in front of the Chandler's Mansion.Rose, Cecilia and Jacob, their father, headed towards the Mansion's Door entrance.

The Chandlers were already waiting,when Rose, Cecelia and their Father entered, through the front entrance Door.

"Here Comes my lovely sister in-law!" Shouted James, Jake's cousin's brother.

He is a fan of Rose's singing ability when she visited the house a few months ago. She sang so well that the entire house was singing her praises.

Catherine came forward to welcome them as the eldest daughter in laws of the Chandler Family. She is supposed to Usher Rose in and Show her the entire house within the Mansion.

She gestured for Rose to come forward, and at that particular moment as Rose was about stepping towards her, Cecelia who is already glaring at her sister with Evil look, slip a foot for her,

Heeey! Rose exclaimed as she fell down on the floor.

Immediately Cecelia feigned ignorance and rushed to help her sister up.

Ooh sorry sister, why have you chosen to fall just now. I thought you have overcome your fear of the large crowd. She chuckled inwardly.

This is the kind of Bride you have brought to this family Jake, she can't even stand to perform the minor traditional tour.

Who knows what surprises still await. Catherine was already lashing out on the New Bride.

I'm sorry Ma. Said Rose.

Keep your sorry to yourself and follow me as I show you around the house. Catherine replied scathingly.

Rose trudged behind, as she showed Room after Room not even stopping to ask if her follower is following, and when Rose eventually asks a question, she gets annoyed at her . She quickly resigned to just listening without asking questions knowing what the outcome would be.

After a perfunctory two hours tour of the house, Rose was relieved to be free from Jake's Mother's taunting and it's being led to their matrimonial Room by Jake, who keeps staring at her readily, like he was gonna devour her once inside the Room.

As they enter their Room. Rose Took a cursory Observation. The Room is quite big with a king size Bed at the Far left hand corner of the Room. Towards the right hand side of the Room is a little study space where Jake normally prepares his lecture notes. Before The bathroom door is a huge dressing mirror standing against the wall. The wardrobe is quite big and spacious enough for a husband and a wife. All in All, Rose is taken by the beauty of the Room.

Do you like it? Asked Jake.

Yes. I do.she replied ..

Listen Rose,he started, I know that I took you by surprise but I really love you and will do anything to make you happy.

Jake, why did you do what you did?

She asked.

It's because I love you Rose. He replied.

I was telling you to marry me. It's you that I truly love . I called you out on the campus cafeteria and explained myself to you multiple times. Didn't I? He asked.

Rose ignored the question.

Why did you get engaged to my sister, since you know that you don't love her?

She asked.

I didn't get engaged to your sister, my mother got me engaged to your sister. Jake defended,

I explained everything to her that I don't have feelings for her, but it seems she and my Mum are taken with each other to even listen to me. Hence, I had to do what I did.

Yes I admire your sister for her dancing skills but I never considered her in that aspect, talkless of marriage.

Now everyone will think that I have taken my sister's husband.

Why did you do this to me Jake? She asked.

Why did you put me in such a difficult situation ? Ooh my God! She cried out.

Jake moved towards her, Drew her into his arms and soothed.

Don't worry Rose. Everything will be alright. He said, you are now my responsibility and I will take care of you.

Chapter Three: The missing passport.

Rose dared to take away my husband. Cecelia fumed, with her face turning crimson. But I will do everything within my power to make her life a living hell. I will make sure I separate her and Jake apart. She vowed to herself .

First I will have to convince Catherine to let me stay in the house with the guise of allowing my sister to settle down. Then I will use that opportunity to tarnish Rose Image and get her kicked out of the house.

She plotted Evilly to herself .

Jake's younger sister Emily and Mother are very fond of Cecelia. During the period she was engaged to Jake, she usually visits the house Regularly and sometimes sleeps over . Cecelia is the extroverted type who talks even when she is not supposed to, cunning and Evil minded.

She knows how to play on people's emotions as far as she can achieve her agenda.

She walked into Emily's Room after knocking twice on the door.

Cecelia, I'm very sorry for what happened yesterday at the wedding. Emily whined, your sister must be shameless to have married my brother, after knowing he was supposed to marry you.

Don't worry about that Emily. Cecelia defended, after all, she is my sister. She said,cunningly.

I want to stay for a few more Days and ensure that my sister is well settled before going back home. She Continued, you know Rose is the quiet type and wouldn't say anything even when something is distressing her. She Concluded.

No problem with that Cecelia.your like a family to us and we want you to stay. Emily Bounced on her Bed. We will stay together and have nice girly chitchats .

I will have to inform your Mum First Emily. Cecelia walks towards the door.

Mum will surely agree of course, Emily said,as Cecelia walked out of the Room and closed the door behind her.

Catherine had just seen a visitor that came to facilitate with the family out and was walking back to the Huge parlor when Cecelia Called out. Aunt Catherine, please I would like to stay for a few days to ensure my sister settles down.

Lady Catherine smiled.of course, you don't need to take permission from me Cecilia,this is your house and you can stay as long as you want. After all, you're the daughter in laws I should have.

Thank you. Aunt Catherine. She Said,

You Don't need to thank me Cecelia. She

Replied.and headed to the corner where her husband is having a good time with his brother, Jerome.

Jake walked in where his mother, father, Uncle and other family members were chatting vigorously and announced.

I will be traveling with my wife to London in two days. The University gave me leave,so I will use it for my honeymoon.

I'm Happy for you Son. You really need to start enjoying your married life.his father said, excitedly.

Cecilia heard the News from the Corner where she was and stewed with Frustration and Anger.

I will never allow Rose to travel to london.she murmured to herself.

She went upstairs and headed to her sister's Room. She Knew Jake was still downstairs with his family members and won't be returning soon. She listened and peered through the door hole managing to see Rose pacing about the room but she couldn't actually decipher what she was doing.

She Opened the door without even knocking , Sis, what are you doing here While others are downstairs having a good time. Rose opened her eyes in surprise.

Cecilia,you started me . You should have at least knocked before entering. What if Jake happens to be here.

Cecelia breezed past her as if nothing happened. I know that your husband is downstairs already. I came up here to see if I can help you with something especially since you would be traveling for your honeymoon in Two days.

Rose opened her mouth but no word came out, Ooh that,she ended up saying.

Jake already Told everyone so I am happy for you little sister. Cecelia Cued in her cunning manner. Seems you are

unpacking.

I'm trying to arrange these clothes, and separate the ones I and Jake will be traveling with.

My sister is really in love. Cecelia Cajoled.

Stop it Cecelia, Rose said defiantly, you know I never wanted all these. I was forced into it.

Forget it little sis,I'm just kidding you.

Cecelia picked up one of the clothes and started folding it neatly. So has your husband made a passport and other necessary traveling documents available? She asked in her cunning nonchalant manner.

Jake Called a friend in the immigration agency. Our traveling documents will be ready by tomorrow . All we need to do is show our passports at the Counter for scan before Departure. Rose replied.

I see. Cecelia said.

Ok sis, let me leave you to your little chore but if you need me, do not hesitate to call on me. I told Aunt Catherine that I would stay for a few days to help you settle down. Once you're off on your honeymoon,I will be leaving.

Thank you. Rose Responded gratefully.

As Cecilia walked out of the Room, she wondered how she had tripped and fell yesterday during the welcoming Ceremony. It was obvious someone made her fall deliberately to shame her. She also knows that Cecelia Did not like her and always saw her as her rival right from their Childhood. So why is this show trying to make her settle down? She asked herself.

She knew that she was up to something but she didn't know exactly what.

The Following Morning. A day before their trip. Rose came out of the bathroom, her hair still wet from the hot shower. Jake was still in the Bed when she entered the bathroom.he told her to pack all her stuff for the trip today to make it easier for them by tomorrow, since they have been booked for morning flight.

She glanced to the Bedside but Jake was not there.

Suddenly someone grabbed her from the back and she flinched.

Hahaha Jake Chuckled. Why are you afraid in your own room Mrs Chandler,he joked.

He caressed her wet hair and smelled the fragrance of her hair perfume. His lips motioning from her face to her lips ,just before he could kiss her, Rose stopped him.

Jake,go and brush your teeth. We have a long day ahead of us. She said, as she slipped away from his arms.

Alright my princess,but you Owe me a morning kiss. He spread his hands in the air to emphasize his point.

Rose blushed and turned away. Jake has been her first man even when she was not prepared for it. Such sensitive issues make her shy. One thing she likes about Jake is his bluntness.

Ok. go and brush first sir,she replied.

I have told you to stop calling me sir, Jake retorted.you are now my wife. Very soon I will make you call me my love.

Rose blushed again,if you do not go now mind you I won't go on the trip with you again,she joked.

Ok Madame, Jake obliged and went into the bathroom.

Cecelia paced restlessly in Emily's Room. She is Currently sharing a Room with Emily until she returns back. Emily had gone out of the house, so she has the Room to herself to plot her Evil. I must look for an opportunity to remove Rose's passport without her noticing. She muttered to herself. Yes she nodded as a thought came to her.

The morning of the Day Jake and his wife Rose are going on their trip.

Jake hurried out from the bathroom, Rose please make sure you're not forgetting anything. We have a two hour drive to the Airport before departure. He went to the wardrobe to wear his clothes.

Ok sir, she is yet to get over calling Jake sir. I'm always Done from here, she replied.

Moment later Rose was dressed with her luggage ready. Jake came out from his study Room and said, Check your passport, Rose, whether it's in your Bag.

It's in my Bag Jake. I put it on myself, she replied.

At that moment there was a shout downstairs. Emily came to Call Jake. She knocked, when Jake opened.

Mum got injured by shattered glasses,she blurted out as he scurried after her downstairs. Rose abandoned what she was doing and followed them out of the Room.

Meanwhile Cecelia has been hiding at the Far Corner of the Door, waiting for this opportunity. This was all her manufactured Game plan. She sneaked into the Room.

Went Straight to Rose Bag, dip her hands in as she rummaged frantically and after a moment retrieved her hands, She looked carefully and it was indeed Rose's passport. She gesticulated in victory and kept the bag, as she was moving away with the passport, she heard voices outside the door. She quickly ran to the closet and hid. Jake and Rose came into the room.

Get your Bag Rose, we are leaving immediately . He called one of the servants to take the luggage to the waiting Car trunk. We need to get to the Airport in two hours,he told Rose.

Rose took her hand Bag and followed Jake out of the Room , and they both went downstairs where his Father, mother , Cousin and other family members were waiting.

At that moment, Cecelia came out from where she was hiding and headed downstairs.

No evil eye shall be cast on you, my son, Louis was saying. You just enjoy this vacation with your wife.

My son,you just be careful, you know your wife is careless with things but look after her, her mum said, she never misses any opportunity to insult Rose.

Mum, this is not the time for bickering, Jake corrected.

James,his cousin, came and hugged him tightly, take care of your Wife Jake,he said, she is your First priority.

Cecelia touched Rose on the shoulder, safe trip little sis.

Jake glanced at everyone for one last time, lifted his Bag and turned to Rose.

Check if your passport is in your Bag Rose.

A wave of shiver Radiated through Cecelia's spine. It's in her Bag of course, she interjected, she says she has checked it severally.

Jake waved farewell for the last time, and he and Rose went out of the House together.
