Christine Smith had not expected herself to get pregnant so soon. Kevin Lee, her newly-married husband, would be even happier to learn the news.
She was too excited to stop pacing around the bedroom with the pregnancy test form in hand.
"You're pregnant? Whose kid is it?" Someone said to Christine mockingly and took the report away from her abruptly.
Whose kid was it? Christine was stunned. It was Lora Smith, her half-sister, who had snatched the form and put forward this question. How could she not know that this kid should belong to Christine and her husband?
Lora continued with a sneer, "Did you get conceived on the thirteenth of July at Star Capital Hotel?"
Christine was shocked at the words and asked curiously, "How do you know? Did Kevin tell you that?"
July 13th was indeed the day that Christine and Kevin had sex with each other for the first time. The Star Capital Hotel was Kevin's choice. When she entered the room, she found that the carpet was covered with flower petals. That night was extremely romantic and beautiful.
Lora beamed at Christine, "How do I know? Do you still think that the man you slept with that night was Kevin? Actually, it was another man that Kevin and I had arranged for you. After having the cup of tea that I had prepared for you, you behaved passionately about that man."
Christine became confused in mind.
How was that possible? She could not believe it.
"What I am saying is that the kid in your belly is not Kevin's. If you are so sad, let me help you get rid of it."
Lora forced Christine, who was shocked, to step forward and place her back against the wall. All of a sudden, the former grabbed the latter by her shoulders and pressed her body downward.
Then, Lora lifted her right leg to slam into Christine's belly with her knee.
Intuitively, Christine pushed Lora in pain, and the latter then fell to the ground.
"Lora, are you alright?" Kevin rushed into the room and crouched down on the floor to help Lora.
The man then rebuked, "Christine, what the hell are you doing? She is your sister!"
Christine stared at her husband. She was his wife, but instead of expressing his concern for her, he was actually helping Lora and blaming her.
"Christine is pregnant with another man's kid. She wants me to help her get rid of it, but I dare not." Lora said in a tearful voice.
With tears all over her face, she looked pitiful.
Kevin was stunned and then lifted his head to look at Christine, asking, "You're pregnant?"
Christine noticed the radiance of excitement in the man's eyes and instantly went cold as if she had been thrown into an icebox. "Kevin, what do you mean?"
Kevin's eyes twinkled. After a moment of contemplation, he said, "In fact, on the night of July 13th, it was Mr. Collins who was in the Room 3309 of Star Capital Hotel."
"Christine, I am now just the vice-general manager of a subsidiary of the Collins Group while Mr. Collins is in charge of the entire group. Your sleeping with him will make me become the general manager."
Christine's face was filled with despair, and the man in front of her looked so familiar and yet strange.
With trembling lips, she asked, "So, you and Lora teamed up and sent me to that man's bed that night?"
Kevin looked her in the eyes and nodded. "Christine, it's been three years since I graduated, but I'm only a vice president of a subsidiary of the Collins Group. Do you know how much I've been holding back over the years?"
Kevin then talked about how hard he had tried to get into the Collins Group before he even graduated and how tough the last three years had been to him.
When he noticed that Mr. Collins looked interested in Christine, he knew that here came his chance. Therefore, he decided to sacrifice Christine, a virgin, for his ambition.
In the end, he said, "Christine, to marry you, I've quarreled even with my parents and ignored many people's objection. For the sake of my career, why don't you give birth to Mr. Collins's baby?"
Christine widened her eyes in shock, wondering, "Give birth to Mr. Collins's baby for the sake of his career? He has to be kidding me."
With tears streaming down her cheeks, the woman actually burst out laughing.
"Did you just say you want me, your wife, to give birth to a baby for another man? Kevin, you must be the most generous man in the world."
"Have you ever thought about me? I'm a human being, a living human being, and you're giving me away as a gift. Do you have any conscience?"
"Besides, it's clear that you and Lora have been messing around all this time."
There were tears over Christine's face, and her heart was bleeding.
She had married Kevin despite his parents' objection and had not expected herself to be treated by him like this.
At this moment, Lora's voice sounded, "Kevin and I truly love each other. It has been hard for him over the years. Since you're already pregnant with Mr. Collins's kid, why don't you do him a favor? Kevin and I will be grateful to you for the rest of our lives!"
Christine thought to herself in pain, "Truly love each other? She is my sister. How could she have fallen in love with Kevin?"
"It has been hard for him over the years? Seriously? Kevin is the young master of the Lee Family and has been living a comfortable life. In what way has life been hard on him?"
"It's me who has had a tough time. To marry him, I've gone through lots of hardships. Besides, I've been hard-working to develop my own career."
Should she do him a favor?
What about her?
What about her marriage?
With her aching stomach covered and her heart filled with despair, Christine shivered violently all over.
She moved her legs, struggling outwards.
"Christine, where are you going?"
Where was she going? Christine herself had no idea. However, she just wanted to get out of this disgusting place as quickly as possible.
Soon, she walked out of the bedroom. Kevin followed her up and reached out to grab her. Feeling disgusted, Christine struggled to free herself from the man's touch.
Unexpectedly, Kevin suddenly loosened his hand, and Christine then lost her balance and rolled down along the stairs.
"Ah!"
The woman cried out in horror. For a moment, she thought she was going to lose the child, her marriage, her hope for a better life, and everything.
The absurdity of her marriage had thrown her into a helpless situation, and she did not even know whether she should cry or laugh.
Just as Christine had prepared herself to say goodbye to everything, a pair of muscular arms held her and prevented her from falling.
With her heart shaking, Christine lifted her head. It was Sheldon Collins who had appeared in her sight.
Why was he here?
Sheldon stood on the stairs with Christine in his arms, and the look in his eyes was cold and standoffish. Due to the horrifying vibe he was giving off, the temperature inside the villa decreased dramatically to the freezing point.
Christine shivered all over!
Sheldon suddenly lowered his head to see the woman right in her eyes.
The man's eyes looked sharp yet stunning. Christine thought they were pretty enough to fascinate a woman with just a glance.
At this moment, Kevin was staring at Sheldon. In fact, it was due to the latter's sudden appearance that he had involuntarily loosened his grip on Christine.
Sheldon moved his eyes upon Kevin. The latter instantly felt as stressful as someone had placed a huge mountain on his head, feeling hard with his breathing.
However, Sheldon soon took his off eyes off the other man. He noticed that Christine was frowning in pain, then picked her up, and headed out towards a hospital.
After being stunned for a few seconds, Kevin came to his senses, hurried to take his coat, and followed them up.
Fortunately, Christine was sent to the hospital in time, and both she and the child were safe and sound.
Lying on the sickbed, she did not want to open her eyes. Instead, she was reflecting on her two-month marriage. The more she thought about it, the more ridiculous she felt it had been.
It was utterly dark outside. Sheldon was standing by the window with one hand in his pocket and his lips set in a grim line.
The atmosphere in the ward was neither depressing nor relaxing.
After a good while, the man walked over to the sickbed and said to the woman, "Since you're already pregnant with my child, divorce Kevin as soon as possible."
His voice was mellow, magnetic, and extraordinarily pleasant to hear.
Under the quilt, Christine grabbed the sheet tightly. She was unwilling to divorce Kevin to make room for him and Lora.
Knowing that the woman would not answer him, Sheldon walked out of the ward with a steady step.
After a short while, Christine heard footsteps approaching. Thinking that Sheldon was coming back to persuade her into a divorce, she flew into a rage and said in a grave voice, "Get lost. I am not going to divorce."
"Christine, you bitch. You're pregnant with another man's child. Why are you not letting go of my son? You damned woman!" It was actually Clare Cook, Kevin's mother, who rushed into the room.
Kevin hurried to stop his mother. "Mom, calm down. Please calm down!"
Christine opened her eyes with a frown and sat up to look at Kevin and his parents with a sneer.
Clare glared at her, asking, "Who is the father of the bastard in your belly?"
Christine did not say anything. Kevin pouted his mouth and answered on her behalf in a somewhat aggrieved tone of voice, "Mom, the child's father is Sheldon Collins."
"What?" Hank Lee, Kevin's father, gasped in shock. The Lee Family and the Collins Family were close to each other, and Hank had sort of watched Sheldon growing up. He then yelled, "Ridiculous! It's simply ridiculous!"
Clare collapsed into Kevin's arms and cried. "I've told you before not to marry this woman. I wish you'd listened to me back then! She is disgracing the Lee Family. What sins have we made to deserve this?"
Hank flew into a rage, roaring, "Kevin, you must divorce this shameless woman."
Kevin put on a vexed expression, saying, "Dad. Christine has said that if I divorce her, she will get rid of the kid. You know, it is Mr. Collins's child. I, of course, don't dare to let anything happen to the baby."
At the man's words, Christine curled up her lips into a mocking sneer, thinking that Kevin was shameless as hell.
Hank's anger was boiling as he continued, "It is a bastard that she is carrying. She is threatening you that she will get rid of it, so what? The Lee Family can never accept such a shameless woman!"
Hank's reaction somewhat surprised Kevin. The reason he had brought his parents to the hospital was to force Christine to please Sheldon by giving birth to the baby but not to push her to get an abortion.
Christine and the kid in her belly were his bargaining chips to negotiate with Sheldon. He must not allow his father to destroy his plans.
As Kevin was lost in his thoughts, his father pushed him, ordering, "Ask the doctor to arrange an abortion for the woman. Hurry up."
The push staggered Kevin. Before he could come to his senses, a cold, overbearing voice sounded from the outside.
"What are you guys? What makes you in charge of aborting my child?"
These words, like a sharp sword, made people in the ward shiver all over in shock.
