She Walked Away: A Rebirth Story

Author: : Adelheid Rufo
Genre: Romance
I adored Liam Walker since childhood, seeing him as a charismatic elder figure I had always dreamed of being with, a future my parents enthusiastically encouraged for me. But one night in a luxury hotel suite, a heavy weight pressed me down, and as his strong hands moved over me, he whispered "Isabella," fracturing my mind with terrifying memories of a past life where I was his wife, carrying his twin babies. That life had ended in a bloody mess, my children unborn, all because of his destructive obsession with Isabella Rossi, and now, he coldly offered a transactional marriage "to avoid trouble," while Isabella, clearly reborn too, actively worked to destroy me. This wasn't just a nightmare; it was a horrifying repeat, a cruel fate orchestrated by a man who never loved me and a rival determined to erase my very existence from this world. Yet, armed with the horrifying knowledge of a future I would never allow to happen again, I declared, "Nothing happened, Liam, I was just leaving," marking my unbreakable resolve to break free from the past and forge a new life.

Introduction

Chapter 1

The dim light of the luxury suite in the historic Charleston hotel barely cut through Ava Miller' s daze.

A heavy weight pressed her down.

Strong hands, a harsh, unfamiliar scent of expensive cologne mixed with alcohol.

"Isabella... you finally came back to me."

The voice was Liam Walker' s, a man she' d adored since she was a girl, her family' s prominent friend, her neighbor's older, charismatic uncle.

But he wasn't talking to her. He was talking to a ghost.

Then, pain. Sharp, violating.

Ava' s mind fractured. Memories, not her own, yet terrifyingly familiar, flooded in. A previous life. A life where she loved this man, married him, carried his twin babies. A life that ended in a bloody mess, her children unborn, all because of his obsession with another woman, Isabella Rossi.

The assault ended. Liam rolled off her, breathing heavily.

The fog in Ava' s reborn mind cleared. This wasn't just a nightmare. It was a horrifying repeat.

Liam sat up, the bedside lamp clicking on, illuminating his handsome, now slightly disheveled face. He looked at her, his eyes cold, appraising.

"Well, that was unexpected."

He ran a hand through his dark hair.

"To avoid any trouble, we'll get married. It's the simplest solution."

His voice was flat, devoid of emotion, a business transaction.

Ava, the Ava from the past, would have cried, clung to this, a lifeline to the man she loved.

But this Ava, armed with the horrific knowledge of her future, felt a chill colder than death.

She sat up slowly, pulling the sheet around her.

"Nothing happened, Liam." Her voice was surprisingly steady. "I was just leaving."

He stared at her, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes. Then, it hardened into suspicion.

"Don't play games with me, Ava. You think I don't know what you're trying to do?"

He stood, looming over her.

"You drugged me, didn't you? To get into my bed?"

His voice was low, menacing. He grabbed her arm, his fingers digging in.

"You think this will make me want you?"

Ava flinched, not from pain, but from the memory of his cruelty in her past life. The way he'd dismissed her, her love, her very existence, for Isabella.

"I didn't drug you, Liam. I was in the wrong suite. I'm leaving." She tried to pull her arm away.

He laughed, a harsh, ugly sound. "The wrong suite? Convenient."

His phone buzzed on the nightstand. He glanced at it. Isabella's name flashed on the screen with an Italian country code.

His demeanor changed instantly. The anger directed at Ava vanished, replaced by a softer, almost eager look.

"Get out," he snapped at Ava, his attention already on the phone. "And don't let me see your face again tonight."

He answered the call, his voice melting. "Bella? Yes, I was just thinking about you."

Ava watched him, a cold knot forming in her stomach. In her past life, she would have been devastated, begging for his attention.

Now, she felt nothing but a grim determination.

She slid off the bed, her legs shaky, and walked towards the door.

He was still cooing into the phone, his back to her.

She didn't look back.

Chapter 2

Ava didn't break down. She didn't cry.

She calmly asked the hotel concierge to call her a cab, her voice even.

The ride home to her parents' house was a blur of Charleston' s familiar, charming streets, now tainted by the night' s horror.

Her parents, the loving, proud owners of the Miller's Comfort Kitchen chain, were asleep. She crept into her childhood bedroom, the silence a balm.

The next morning, her parents greeted her with bright smiles, oblivious.

"Honey, we have a surprise for you!" her mother announced at breakfast.

Her father beamed, handing her a set of keys and a folder. "It's the down payment for that condo you wanted, the one near Liam's firm. We know how much you admire him, and well, a good location never hurts."

In her past life, this gift would have been a dream come true, another step closer to Liam.

Now, it felt like a cruel joke.

Ava looked at her parents, their faces full of love and hope for her.

"Mom, Dad," she said, her voice gentle but firm. "Thank you. This is incredibly generous. But I'm... I'm not interested in Liam Walker anymore."

Their smiles faltered.

"Not interested?" her mother repeated, confused. "But Ava, you've had a crush on him since you were a teenager. You always said..."

"I know what I said, Mom. Things change."

Her father looked concerned. "Did something happen, sweetheart?"

Before she could answer, her phone rang. Liam.

Her parents exchanged a knowing glance, their previous worry momentarily forgotten.

Ava excused herself and answered.

"Where are you?" Liam' s voice was sharp, demanding. "You weren't at my penthouse this morning."

He didn't ask if she was okay. He assumed she' d be there, waiting for him.

"I'm at my parents' house, Liam," Ava said, her tone cool.

"I had my assistant order you some birth control. It'll be delivered to my place. Pick it up."

Transactional. Cold. Just like before.

"And that little bag you 'accidentally' left here last night? The one with your initials? Clever. But I' m not falling for it."

Ava remembered that tactic from her past life, a desperate way to ensure she' d see him again.

"You can throw it away, Liam. I don't need it."

A pause. "What did you say?"

"I said, throw it away. And thank you for the pills, I'll arrange to get them. Goodbye."

She hung up before he could respond.

She took a deep breath. Her parents were watching her, their expressions a mixture of confusion and concern.

"I meant what I said," Ava told them. "I'm done with Liam Walker."

Later that day, she used her knowledge of the future. She remembered a critical issue with a spice supplier that nearly bankrupted a smaller competitor of her family' s business in her past life.

"Dad," she said, approaching him in his study. "I was looking over our recent supplier reports. Have we thoroughly vetted the new company handling our paprika and cayenne from Louisiana? I have a bad feeling."

Her father, initially surprised by her sudden interest in the minutiae of the supply chain, listened. Her specific, albeit vague, concerns were enough to make him promise to look into it.

One step. One small step towards protecting her family.
