Chapter 1

Five years ago, Dinah Flynn married Jeffrey Scott, although everyone had objections.

She loved nothing but his face, especially his eyes.

She loved him so much that she could tolerate his infidelity.

Even when she found out he had brought a mistress to their home for three days and nights, Dinah was not angry.

"Jeffrey has gone too far! Dinah, have you truly fallen for him?"

Dinah looked at her furious friend and answered earnestly, "As long as I can see his face, I can always forgive him and will always love him. I owe him this."

A day later, Jeffrey and his mistress were in a car accident while they were out on a trip.

He was left with a scar on his face that would never heal.

Dinah left him coldly and disappeared from his world completely.

Later, he got down before her and asked her why.

She gently traced the scar by his eye and felt her heart ache more. "Jeffrey, he died one more time because of you."

...

Dinah loved the way Jeffrey held her close when they had sex just like now.

She was captivated as she touched his smiling eyes. "You are so charming..."

Her subconscious praise made him move more vigorously.

Dinah found it somewhat unbearable. "Jeffrey, enough... Hmm..."

She felt him thrusting deeper, and tears almost fell. Her eyes turned red. "Jeffrey, it's been an hour already."

Jeffrey pressed a finger to her lips and said, "Shush, call me Jeff."

Dinah stiffened.

She didn't want to call him that.

"Why won't you call me Jeff?"

He moved quicker, but Dinah lost interest.

Even at the height of passion, she bit her lip to keep silent.

Jeffrey didn't mind it. He shuddered and then left her.

Dinah and Jeffrey matched well in bed.

Even though Jeffrey had many mistresses, he still returned home every day and had sex with Dinah.

But it was different that day. After just an hour, Jeffrey stopped and went to the bathroom.

Dinah didn't wait for him. She carefully wiped the blood from her lips and took a shower in the guest room.

As she came out, she saw Jeffrey fully dressed and about to leave. "A friend returned from abroad. I'm going to pick him up. You just go to sleep. Don't wait up for me."

Listening to Jeffrey's explanation, Dinah responded to him simply. "Okay. I have a meeting."

Jeffrey paused while putting on his shoes. He looked back at her with disbelief. "You still have the energy to attend a meeting? I didn't seem to have satisfied you."

He said the last sentence through gritted teeth.

Dinah didn't answer him before turning back to the room.

The blush on her face faded quickly, and her eyes became emotionless.

The shrill ring of her phone interrupted her thoughts. It was Jeffrey's assistant, Curt Barton.

Curt sounded embarrassed. "Dinah, I'm sorry, but we can't give you the project materials today. Mr. Scott hasn't been to the office lately."

Hearing his words, Dinah frowned.

The annual review meeting had been dragging on for a week without progress because Jeffrey hadn't submitted the information about the project he was responsible for.

There was no time to delay.

Dinah had no choice but to call Jeffrey herself. "When will you be back? There are some documents that need your signature."

Jeffrey seemed to be connected to the car's Bluetooth. The window was open, and the sound of the wind was audible. "I'll be back tomorrow."

"But I need them for today's meeting..."

"Jeff, am I bringing trouble to your work?" A gentle female voice chimed in. "Just drop me off at the side of the road. I can get a taxi myself. You'd better hurry back to work."

Jeffrey cut off the Bluetooth the next moment. "Dinah, I'll be back tomorrow. Don't call me again. You once said you despised women tracking men's whereabouts. Have you become like that, too?"

Dinah wasn't sure if she had misheard, but there seemed to be a faint sense of hope in his voice.

He seemed to be expecting her to say yes.

But Dinah hung up the phone directly.

After the call ended, she realized her heartbeat was pounding heavily.

She didn't know who was sitting in Jeffrey's passenger seat, but the gentle voice seemed familiar.

Last month, during a company team-building exercise abroad, she heard Jeffrey's phone ring at night.

"Jeff, it's so beautiful here. Take a picture for me quickly!"

"Jeff, I love this dish. Can we order another one?"

The excruciating pain spread from her heart, and Dinah struggled to catch her breath.

She picked up a photo of Jeffrey and slowly stroked his deep, affectionate eyes. "Will you betray me, Jeff?"

Tears rolled down her cheeks, and Dinah struggled to steady her trembling hands. "You won't betray me. You can't betray me."

Chapter 2

Dinah entered the office with teary eyes, and everyone looked at her with sympathy.

They all knew that Dinah had given everything for Jeffrey.

Even his company was held up by her efforts.

Yet, Jeffrey did not cherish her and constantly had new women around him.

Just like today, Jeffrey had taken his new lover to a spa while Dinah had a meeting at the office late at night.

Dinah was already accustomed to such looks from others. She sat nonchalantly in the conference room and turned on her laptop. "Let's get started. We need to finish this today."

More than thirty employees worked in the conference room until dawn to complete Jeffrey's part.

She said to everyone, "That's it for today. We'll wait for Mr. Scott to sign the papers when he comes to work."

Dinah gave everyone a day off. As she left the company and turned on her phone, she saw hundreds of missed calls.

Most were from her mother-in-law, Wendy Scott, along with her father-in-law, Colin Scott, and several unknown numbers.

Jeffrey didn't call her.

Dinah called her Wendy back while frowning. "Hello..."

Wendy's angry voice roared through the phone immediately. "Dinah, Jeffrey had a terrible car accident and has been in surgery for five hours. Why couldn't we reach you?"

Dinah paused in her tracks. "Which hospital are you in?"

"The General Hospital. Get here immediately!"

The call ended abruptly.

Dinah could barely breathe.

She didn't snap back to reality until an employee accidentally bumped into her. She gasped for air.

"A car accident happened. It was another car accident!" She grabbed her purse and hurried to the stairs. After she ran down more than twenty floors, she reached the parking lot.

She sped all the way to the hospital parking lot.

When she reached the operating room's entrance, Jeffrey was still inside.

As soon as Wendy saw Dinah, the former stepped forward and slapped the latter hard. "How could you let Jeffrey drive on the treacherous mountain roads? Don't you know he has difficulty seeing at night?"

Wendy was about to slap Dinah again, but Colin stopped her. "Honey, you know how stubborn Jeffrey is. She can't stop him from doing anything if he insists."

The pain on Dinah's face slowly turned into numbness.

She said nothing and waited resolutely at the operating room's door.

She wanted to be the first to see Jeffrey.

Six hours had passed before Jeffrey was wheeled out of the operating room.

Dinah rushed forward, only to be knocked to the floor by a figure.

That figure clung to Jeffrey and cried desperately. "Oh, Jeffrey, why are you so foolish? I don't need you to protect me. As long as you're alive, I'm happy."

The doctor instructed the nurses to pull that figure away. "The patient needs to be transferred to the ICU immediately. Don't delay it."

But the two nurses couldn't pry that figure away. She held Jeffrey's hand tightly and refused to let go of him.

Seeing Jeffrey's face covered in bandages, Dinah widened her eyes.

She frantically got up from the floor and hurried to the doctor. "Doctor, where is Jeffrey injured?"

The doctor clearly recognized who Dinah was and sighed, "Mr. Scott is fortunate. The airbag absorbed most of the impact, but some of the shattered glass cut his face. All the pieces have been removed. The area near his eyes is the most severely injured, and he might lose his sight."

Dinah felt a sharp jolt in her heart and almost lost her balance. "Will he have scars?"

The doctor didn't expect her to ask that question and was stunned. "There will definitely be scars."

Dinah took a deep breath. "Get the best plastic surgeon to examine him and see if his eyes can be restored to their original way. They must be exactly the same as before."

Everyone was shocked.

Chapter 3

Wendy was the first to react. "Jeffrey is almost blind, but you're worried about a scar?"

Her voice was sharp, and Dinah glanced back at Wendy before slapping her across the face. "Be quiet!" Dinah said, pulling out a wet wipe to meticulously clean her hand with disdain. "He has been wheeled out of the operating room. It means he's fine. Why are you panicking?"

Wendy was used to Dinah's submissiveness and had never suffered such a grievance before.

But before she could speak, Dinah was violently shoved aside.

A sharp pain erupted from the top of her head as she dazedly opened her eyes to see the one before her.

It was the woman who had been leaning over Jeffrey.

Her face was full of anger. "I won't let you mistreat his family while he's unconscious."

Dinah looked up at the woman's pure and stubborn face and couldn't help but laugh. "Were you the one who brought Jeffrey to the hospital? Thank you. I'm Dinah Flynn."

The woman stood frozen for a long moment before saying, "Aren't you upset?"

Dinah struggled to stand up and shook her head. "I know you. Your name is Rose White."

Rose was startled and instinctively took a step back. "What do you want? I'm just Jeffrey's friend, not his lover."

Dinah gently interrupted Rose. "I know you're friends. You don't have to explain."

Over the years, Jeffrey had many close female friends, but none were around him for more than a month.

But Rose had been around for almost six months.

Dinah had thought Rose must have some unique qualities. But now she understood.

But now she understood Rose resembled that woman a lot.

She was the most identical to that woman among all the women he had met for so many years.

Thinking of that, Dinah sneered, "But you are still not exactly the same."

Rose was puzzled. "What did you say?"

Dinah shook her head and said, "Nothing. Your clothes are dirty. We're about the same size, and I have spare clothes in the trunk. I'll have someone help you find a place to change. Doctor, please check her thoroughly. Let me know if there's any issue," Dinah said.

"Alright, Mrs. Scott," the doctor replied.

Dinah said softly but firmly, "Go on. By the time you change, Jeffrey must be out. It's just a consultation to assess the extent of the eye repair. It won't take long."

Wendy had already been curious just now. Now she looked at the scene more confused.

How could Dinah treat Jeffrey's mistress so gently?

Wendy wanted to ask, but Colin pulled her away before she could speak.

There was no one else in the hallway soon.

Dinah didn't have to look tough now. She collapsed into a chair.

She entered the hospital room and looked at Jeffrey on the bed. "Why did each of you leave me because of a car accident?"

Tears streamed down Dinah's face and landed on Jeffrey's finger.

He flinched at the touch, and his fingers twitched.

Dinah snapped out of her daze and hurriedly wiped away her tears. "You're awake?"

Jeffrey blinked, and his expression shifted from confusion to panic in just a few seconds.

He suddenly sat up. "Where's Rose? Is she okay?"

Dinah remained silent while watching him.

As expected, Rose held a special place in his heart.

Jeffrey gradually realized the situation and looked guilty. She said, "She's fine. She was just a little shaken. She's gone home to rest."

Jeffrey sighed in relief. "As long as everything is alright."

But how could everything be okay?

Dinah couldn't hold back any longer and called the doctor to examine Jeffrey. She then went to the bathroom.

She locked herself in a stall, and her heart ached painfully. "Jeffrey, you really look so ugly now. You don't even resemble him."

Dinah found it hard to cry in front of that face anymore.

"If you can't return to the way you were, I have no reason to stay with you." Her voice was low but resolute.
