Shattered Claim: The Hidden Billionaire Mechanic

Author: Ardisj Matthies
Genre: Modern
For three years, I secretly funded my boyfriend Jamir's failing motorcycle shop using millions from my private engine patents. I kept his family from going bankrupt while I worked tirelessly in the grease-stained lower garage. But today, he proudly brought a manipulative blonde named Hillary into my workshop. He announced she was his new "Club Princess" because she supposedly saved his brothers on a highway run. He demanded I share my status, my room, and my hard-earned money with his new sidepiece. When I refused, he raised his fist and threatened to have the club elders strip my name and exile me with nothing. His mother, the Matriarch, backed him up, sneering that I was just a stray orphan who owed my life to their charity. Later, Hillary even faked a pregnancy and staged a miscarriage, trying to frame me for poisoning her unborn child just to get me killed by the cartel. They really thought I was just a dependent, helpless woman clinging to their family name for survival. They had no idea the entire biker empire they were trying to steal was built entirely on my dime, nor did they know I was actually the underground coalition's most feared trauma surgeon. I calmly ripped off my club patch and threw it directly at his face. "The severance is done. You owe me 3.6 million dollars, and you have three days to pay before I burn this place to the ground."

Chapter 1

Jacquelyn POV:

The metal roll-up door was kicked open from the outside. Midday sunlight and desert dust poured into the garage. My husband, Jamir, sat on a heavy cruiser, with a blonde woman--Hillary Short--pressed tight against his back, her arms wrapped around his waist, intimate and deliberate.

"Jacquelyn, I came to tell you something."He kicked down the stand, strode toward me, ignoring the busy workers around him and the grease-stained hands I was using to work on the engine. In front of everyone, with a condescending, unquestionable tone, he announced: "Tonight, I'm naming Hillary my Old Lady. From now on, you two are equals in this shop. You share quarters, and you share status."

I didn't even look up, still turning the cylinder head bolt in my hand. The edge of the brass wrench dug deep into the calluses on my palm.

My voice was cold as ice: "Jamir Reilly, you think you can talk to me about equality? The title of Old Lady is earned through blood, sweat, loyalty, and recognition paid for with lives. It's not something you can hand out to anyone who warms your bed every night. For four years, I've been keeping the Reilly family business alive. I helped you secure the VP seat. I'm the one who's shared your hardships and your victories, and now you want me to hand over my place as your Old Lady?"

I reached up and ripped the leather patch from the left breast of my work vest--the one that read "Property of Jamir." It was the mark of years of humble attachment. I hurled it straight at Jamir. The hard leather edge sliced clean across his cheekbone, breaking the skin instantly and leaving a bright red line of blood on his pale face.

Jamir stepped back, hand pressed to his bleeding cheek, staring at me in shock. "What are you doing?"

I looked him dead in the eye and said, word by word: "The four years I gave you--from this moment on, they're void."

Hillary stepped out from behind him. Her eyes glittered with calculating malice as she looked me over--my grease-stained work pants, my worn leather boots. She slid her hand along Jamir's forearm and leaned in, her voice sickly sweet: "Hi, sister. I hope I'm not interrupting."

I snatched the heavy brass wrench off the table and slammed it down against the steel plate. The crash echoed through the garage, and she shut up instantly.

"Since when does the VP of Reilly Choppers bring an unpatched Sweetbutt into the inner workshop?" My voice was cold as iron. "Did the club rules get buried with your last lost shipment?"

Jamir's face darkened. He stepped forward and jabbed a thick finger toward my nose. "Watch your mouth, Jackie. On the border run last week, Hillary risked her neck doing field triage. She saved three brothers from bleeding out. She's earned her place here ten times over."

Hillary dropped her head at once, clutching the edge of Jamir's leather belt, her lower lip trembling as she squeezed out two tears. "Don't fight because of me, Jamir. I know I don't belong here. I'm just an outsider."

Jamir pulled her behind his broad shoulder, his chest puffing up with anger, his voice hard and unquestionable: "I said it. Tonight she becomes Club Princess. You two share status."

I let out a cold, dry laugh and looked him dead in the eye. "Equal? You want to feed your sidepiece with the patent royalties I earned with my own hands?"

Jamir's eyes flickered, but his pride flared right back up. "Every dime this shop makes belongs to the Reilly family! You're my Old Lady. Supporting me and this shop is your damn obligation!"

Hillary smiled faintly from behind his arm. She stepped around him and reached toward the custom Harley I had just tuned, her voice almost purring: "It's beautiful, Jackie. Jamir told me on the highway that this one's mine."

Her fingers hovered an inch above the polished chrome gas cap.

I didn't blink. My arm whipped out, and I drove the wrench down against the steel cap, an inch from her wrist. The metal rang like a gunshot.

Hillary shrieked, yanked her hand back, and stumbled into Jamir's chest, sobbing hysterically.

"You crazy bitch!" Jamir roared, his fist swinging straight for my jaw.

I didn't step back. I locked my eyes on his wrist, my voice dropping to a lethal whisper: "Swing it, Jamir. I promise you'll never grip a throttle with that hand again."

He froze. His knuckles trembled in midair, caught between wounded pride and real fear. Slowly, sneering to save face, he lowered his arm. "You think you're untouchable? If the Reilly family hadn't pulled you out of the gutter after the Dale shop was wiped off the map, you'd have been torn apart by street scavengers years ago."

I listened to him lie through his teeth. For three years, I had anonymously funneled black-market trauma surgery fees and cutting-edge mechanical blueprints into his failing family business, keeping his creditors from blowing his knees out.

"The claim is broken," I said, every word hitting the concrete like cold iron. "Take your trash and get the hell out of my garage."

Hillary tucked herself tighter against Jamir, a smug, victorious grin flashing across her lips. Neither of them seemed to take it seriously.

I turned my back on them, walked to the reinforced security door at the end of the bay, and punched in my private eight-digit code. The hydraulic lock hissed shut, sealing the blast door between us.

Chapter 2

Jacquelyn POV:

"Open the damn door, Jackie!"

Jamir's fists pounded against the reinforced steel, the heavy thuds vibrating through the deadbolt. Muffled through the metal, Hillary's soft, manipulative voice followed right behind his shouts.

"Jamir, let her cool off. She's just jealous because she knows you don't love her anymore."

I ignored the noise completely. I stepped up to the heavy biometric safe built into the concrete wall of the private storage room, pressed my thumb against the optical scanner, and pulled the steel door open.

Inside lay three certified master engine patent certificates stamped by the state board, along with a stack of bank transfer receipts three inches thick. Every document bore the official seal of the state commercial registry.

Outside, the banging stopped. A moment later, low murmurs and heavy, rhythmic panting filtered through the ventilation slit. The rustle of leather against leather made it obvious what they were doing against my door.

I twisted the heavy metal wheel of the blast door, unlocked the deadbolts, and shoved the heavy slab outward.

The door flew open with a loud screech.

Jamir stumbled back, his hands quickly dropping from Hillary's waist as he straightened his leather cut. Hillary flushed red, hastily pulling up the slipped strap of her tank top, though her eyes were filled with smug amusement.

I tossed the thick stack of bank receipts straight onto the grease-stained table. The papers fanned out across the steel surface, exposing column after column of massive red ledger balances.

"If you're going to use my workshop door for your rutting," I said coldly, "at least finish paying your tab first."

Hillary shrank behind Jamir's shoulder, while Jamir's face flushed deep crimson.

"You've been tracking my private accounts?" he snapped.

"I don't give a damn about your private life," I said, stepping forward. "I care about my money."

Jamir scoffed, but his gaze fell involuntarily onto the top sheet. His eyes widened as the figures hit his retinas.

I tapped the certified patent certificate lying beside the ledgers with the tip of a surgical scalpel.

"For thirty-six months, seventy percent of Reilly Choppers' operating debt, parts inventory, and club run supplies were funded directly by the dividend payouts from these two engine patents."

Hillary stared at the papers, her mouth slightly open. In her head, I had been nothing more than a dependent woman clinging to Jamir for shelter. She had no idea the entire empire she was trying to steal was built on my dime.

"That... that was your contribution as family," Jamir stammered, his bravado cracking. "Bringing these papers out now changes nothing."

"It changes everything," I said, my voice cutting through the room like a blade. "The severance is done. That means the three point six million dollars this shop owes my private account is a legal debt, due in full."

Jamir stumbled back against a rack of motorcycle tires, the air knocked out of his lungs. He knew the shop's liquid reserves couldn't cover a tenth of that amount.

"You malicious bitch!" Hillary suddenly lunged forward, pointing a manicured finger at my face. "Jamir nearly died on the border run to keep this shop afloat, and you're trying to bankrupt him the second he comes home?"

My arm moved before she could finish her breath.

My palm cracked across her cheek in a deafening slap.

The impact sent Hillary spinning sideways. She hit the edge of the tool rack with a sharp cry, crashing to the floor with blood leaking from the corner of her split lip.

I shook out my stinging wrist and looked down at her.

"Unpatched Sweetbutts don't speak when the ledger is on the table."

Jamir dropped to his knees, wrapping his arms around the sobbing woman, his eyes blazing with fury as he looked up at me.

"You've lost your mind! I'm calling an emergency Church meeting tonight. I'll have the elders strip your name from the territory and exile you with nothing!"

"Go ahead," I said, leaning over the bench with a cold smile. "Call Church. Let the full-patch brothers read through these invoices. Let them see how the future president of Reilly Choppers embezzled club weapon funds to buy diamond chokers for an unpatched groupie."

Jamir went dead pale. In an outlaw club, mismanaging brother funds was a violation punishable by severe club justice.

He swallowed hard, his voice suddenly losing all its edge.

"Jackie... we don't need to burn the house down over this. We built this place together."

"Three days," I said, cutting him off. "If the first installment isn't in my account in seventy-two hours, these exact statements land on your mother's desk."

Heavy footsteps echoed from the garage entrance.

A tall Sergeant at Arms in a black utility cut stepped into the bay. He completely ignored Jamir and Hillary on the floor, stopping two paces away from me with his head respectfully bowed.

"Ma'am. Club Mother Martha requests your presence at the main estate immediately."

Martha was the founder's widow-Club Mother, a woman with influence but no vote in Church.

Jamir and Hillary exchanged a quick glance from the floor, a spark of hope reigniting in their eyes. Jamir assumed his mother was about to put me in my place.

Hillary wiped the blood from her lip and cast me a venomous, triumphant sneer from behind Jamir's shoulder.

I slipped the surgical scalpel into my leather boot, pulled my jacket tight, and stepped past them.

"Lead the way," I told the Sergeant at Arms. "I have a balance to settle with the old lady anyway."

Chapter 3

Jacquelyn POV:

The heavy oak door of the Clubhouse chapel muffled my footsteps as I stepped inside. The air was thick with the stale stench of expensive cigars and old money built on dirty road business. This was Church-the one room in the Reilly Choppers Clubhouse where only full-patch members had the right to sit, speak, and vote.

Martha Reilly sat at the head of the long wooden table, a bone china teacup resting in her wrinkled hands. She was the founder's widow-Club Mother. No Patch, no vote, but decades of club politics had given her a voice that could make or break a man's standing. She didn't look up immediately, letting the silence hang like a threat.

Jamir and Hillary had already taken their places. Hillary stood submissively behind Martha's left shoulder, gently massaging the old woman's neck, while Jamir sat at the table, his VP patch clearly visible on his cut, his jaw set in a smug grin.

Martha set her teacup down with a sharp clink against the saucer.

"I hear you caused a scene in the lower bays, Jackie," Martha said, her voice dry, aristocratic, and thoroughly condescending. "Tearing off your rocker? Demanding money? Who gave a stray orphan the right to throw tantrums under my roof?"

I stopped in the center of the room, standing straight, my hands resting loosely at my sides.

"It wasn't a tantrum, Martha. It was an official notice of severance."

Martha's hand slammed down on the armrest.

"Insolent! If the Reilly family hadn't offered you a roof when your father's garage burned to the ground, you would have been rotting in a ditch. You owe every breath you take to our name!"

"Mother is right," Jamir piped up from the table, leaning back with an easy smirk. "Jackie, apologize to Hillary, pour mother her tea, and I'll consider letting you keep your room in the back."

I didn't waste a breath on Jamir. I reached into my jacket pocket-past the patents I'd taken from the safe, touching the cold insurance policy I'd spent months scavenging from the garage's medical waste-and pulled out a sealed glass specimen vial filled with pale blue liquid. I tossed it onto the polished mahogany table.

The glass vial rolled to a stop right against Martha's china saucer.

Hillary's hands froze on Martha's shoulders. The color drained from her face so fast she looked like a corpse.

"Why don't you ask your brave little field medic what this is?" I asked, looking directly at Hillary.

Jamir frowned, leaning forward. "What the hell is that supposed to be? Hillary saved six brothers with her trauma kits on the highway!"

"She didn't save them," I said calmly. "She injected them with a banned central-nervous-system stimulant to mask acute hemorrhagic shock. It creates a temporary surge of energy while burning out their internal organs from the inside out."

I pulled a folded lab analysis from my pocket-the result of a risky, off-the-books favor I'd called in at the exchange weeks ago-and slapped it over the vial.

"Black-market chemical breakdown, certified by the downtown medical exchange. It has Hillary's supply requisition batch number stamped right on the header."

Martha's arrogant expression shattered. The Reilly shop might have run dirty weapons, but peddling banned neuro-stimulants inside coalition territory wasn't just a charter violation-it was a Mayhem-level offense. A capital crime inside the club.

"She's lying!" Hillary dropped to her knees beside Martha's chair, weeping uncontrollably. "Mother Reilly, she's framing me! She faked those papers because she hates me!"

"You vicious bitch!" Jamir roared, leaping up from the table.

He lunged across the rug, his fingers clawing straight for my throat.

I didn't flinch. As his weight shifted forward, I pivoted on my left heel, slipping inside his reach. My right hand dropped to my utility belt and whipped the heavy brass wrench from its holster in a seamless arc.

The solid metal caught Jamir squarely on his extended right elbow joint.

A sickening crunch echoed through the chapel.

Jamir let out a high-pitched shriek, clutching his shattered elbow as he collapsed to the floor, writhing in agony.

"Jamir!" Martha screamed, rising from her chair, her jewelry rattling. "You dare shed Reilly blood in my house? Guards!"

The door burst open. But it wasn't Martha's guards who stepped in first.

It was Rook-the club's Sergeant at Arms. He took one look at Jamir writhing on the floor, Hillary cowering in the corner, and me standing over them with a wrench in my hand.

"What the hell happened here?" he demanded.

I wiped a speck of grease from the wrench against my pants. "He lunged at me. I defended myself. Ask the Club Mother-she saw all of it."

Rook's eyes flicked to Martha. The old woman's jaw tightened. She could lie, but Rook wasn't just any member-he was the club's enforcer. He could read guilt on a face better than a priest.

"He swung first," Martha admitted through gritted teeth. "But she broke his elbow."

"Self-defense," I said flatly. "I told him in the garage-don't touch me. He didn't listen."

Rook studied me for a long moment, then looked down at Jamir. "You drew on an Old Lady. In Church. After you brought an unpatched Sweetbutt into a closed meeting. You're lucky she didn't do worse."

Jamir's face twisted with rage and humiliation, but he said nothing. Even he knew Rook was right.

Rook turned to Hillary. "And you. There's a vial on that table with your batch number on it. You're going to stay right here until we get a full vote."

Hillary's eyes went wide with panic. "A vote? On what?"

"Mayhem," Rook said coldly. "If what's in that vial is real, you're done. And anyone who covered for you-" his gaze landed on Jamir, "-is going to have a lot of explaining to do at the next Church."

Jamir went dead pale. In an outlaw club, mismanaging brother funds was one thing. But covering for someone who poisoned your own brothers? That was a betrayal the club would never forgive.

His VP patch suddenly looked a lot less secure.

He swallowed hard, his voice suddenly losing all its edge.

"Jackie... we don't need to burn the house down over this. We built this place together."

"Three days," I said, cutting him off. "Three point six million in my private account within seventy-two hours-the club's legal debt to me, paid in full. And the formal severance contract signed with no contest."

Martha clenched her fists until her knuckles turned white. She looked at her screaming son on the floor, then at the damning papers on the table.

"Fine. You'll have your paperwork. Now destroy that report."

"You get the originals when the wire clears," I said.

Rook stepped aside to let me pass. He didn't say a word, but I could feel his eyes on my back. He was already calculating what this meant for the club-and for Jamir's future as VP.

I turned on my heel and walked out of Church, the heavy thud of my boots drowning out Jamir's pathetic whimpers. As I crossed the threshold into the long corridor, I caught the faint whisper of Martha giving a rushed, venomous order to the armed guard by the door.

I slid my hand down to the surgical scalpel in my boot. The old woman wasn't going to let me walk out of the compound that easily.
