Chapter 1

Aunt Paige couldn't stand seeing our family doing better than hers. She schemed to take everything from us.

I was accepted into a prestigious university, while Grayson didn't even pass the vocational school entrance exam. On the day of my university acceptance banquet, a child from the village fell into the water. Aunt Paige pushed me in.

"Simon, you're a student at a prestigious university. You can't bring shame to your school. Go save that child!"

I struggled to lift the child out of the water, but I ended up drowning myself. After my death, my grandfather and mother also passed away in succession. Grayson, recognized for his bravery, was admitted to a university. Aunt Paige took the compensation for the relocation of our family's 200-acre orchard. From being impoverished, she became the wealthiest person in the village.

After being reborn, I saw that child fall into the water again. Before Aunt Paige could say a word, I kicked her into the water.

I was accepted into a top-tier university, while Grayson didn't even meet the minimum requirements for a vocational college. Aunt Paige wanted to send him to join the military.

Grandpa held my acceptance letter, beaming with joy, and invited Aunt Paige's family over for dinner.

After several toasts, Uncle Rylan started his same old story.

"Simon, when your father had his accident, you were only ten. I took care of all the arrangements. When you make something of yourself, don't forget your Uncle Rylan!"

Aunt Paige, already envious of my university acceptance, had been giving me the cold shoulder for days. She shot me a fierce glare.

"That's right, Simon. You can't be ungrateful. When you succeed, you must show us respect!"

Looking at my still-living grandpa and mom, I realized I had been reborn.

In my previous life, my mom was so happy she wanted to throw a celebration for my university acceptance. She was known as a kind person and got along well with everyone in the village. The whole village came that day; it was a lively scene.

In the chaos, a five or six-year-old boy fell into the small river in front of our house. Aunt Paige grabbed me and ran to the riverbank. As soon as we got there, she pushed me into the river.

"Simon, you're a student at a top-tier university. You can't disgrace your school. Go save him."

I was a mediocre swimmer and swallowed several mouthfuls of water before I barely managed to grab the boy. Using all my strength, I lifted him onto the shore, but I was swept away by the current. It took three days to find my body.

Grandpa, already ill, was heartbroken by my death and passed away a few days later. Mom couldn't bear the blow and drowned herself in that same river.

Aunt Paige and Uncle Rylan not only took the compensation for our 200-acre orchard but also inherited Mom's grocery store. Grayson, hailed as a hero, was admitted to a university under special circumstances. Aunt Paige and Uncle Rylan went from dirt poor to filthy rich, living a prosperous life, while our family was destroyed, and we died with unresolved grievances.

Aunt Paige was still recounting how they had arranged my father's funeral. I suddenly stood up and threw my bowl and chopsticks at them, shocking everyone.

"Simon, what's gotten into you? Just because you got into university, you think you're something special? You haven't even started your career, and you're already turning your back on family?"

Aunt Paige had never been treated like this; she was always the one bullying others.

"My dad's been dead for eight years. You've been talking about it for eight years. I want to know, how did my dad die? Wasn't it your responsibility to arrange his funeral?"

The whole family was speechless. Mom started to sob quietly. She had always been a kind person, never knowing how to fight back when bullied.

Years ago, Grayson lost his hat at the ice rink. It was just a few dollars, but Aunt Paige insisted my dad go back to find it. It was already spring, and the ice suddenly cracked. My dad never came back. Every family gathering, they would bring up this incident. But if it weren't for Grayson's stupid hat, my dad wouldn't have died. My mom and I wouldn't have lived such a hard life.

"And another thing, the resort compensated us five thousand dollars back then. You said you'd borrow it and return it by the end of the year. It's been eight years. I don't want the interest, just give me back the principal."

Aunt Paige didn't expect me to ask for the money. Mom had never mentioned it all these years. She instantly flew into a rage.

"You ungrateful brat, your mom never said a word. What are you yelling about?"

I flipped the table, dumping the food all over them.

"My mom didn't ask because she's too kind. I'm not so easygoing. If you don't return the money, I'll sue you. And Grayson can forget about joining the military!"

I had already died once; what did I have to fear?

Uncle Rylan had been detained a few times and was worried his son's background check wouldn't pass. Hearing my threat, he finally calmed down.

"I'll give you three days. If you don't return the money, we'll see each other in court."

Aunt Paige looked at Grandpa. Even though he always favored her, he knew Mom had been supporting him all these years. Even if he had no conscience, he couldn't stop me from asking for the money.

I heard they had a huge fight when they got home. Grayson was the most upset, saying he wouldn't live if he couldn't join the military. With no other choice, Aunt Paige brought the money over the next day.

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Dad had only one sister, Aunt Paige. Grandma passed away early, so Dad and Grandpa both doted on her. But she was a disappointment, marrying a gambler early on and living a life of constant financial struggle. When Dad was alive, he often helped her out, and Grandpa pitied her, helping whenever he could. Every time she came over, she raided the house; she took whatever she saw and, if she had no money, she borrowed from Mom. If Mom refused, Aunt Paige would cry and make a scene, claiming that her brother's death left her bullied by her sister-in-law. Mom, afraid of village gossip, never argued with her.

Over the years, Aunt Paige was like a parasite, and neither Mom nor Grandpa could do anything about her. Grandpa was now in the late stages of lung cancer, struggling to breathe in recent days. For once, Aunt Paige brought something when she visited him. Grandpa was moved, thinking his daughter had finally matured, but I knew she was after Grandpa's inheritance.

Our family owned a 200-acre orchard, which was about to be taken over by a development project. The signing was imminent. "Dad, I should get a share of the orchard relocation money," Aunt Paige said. Mom glanced at Grandpa but remained silent. Since Dad's death, Mom had always shown Grandpa great respect. She was too kind, never fighting for her own interests.

"By rights, you should get a share," Grandpa said, making Aunt Paige beam with joy. Who did she think she was? Did she think we had to give her whatever she wanted? I interrupted, showing her no respect. "Aunt Paige, when the family split, you only wanted money and not Grandpa. That 200-acre orchard was cultivated bit by bit by Dad. How do you have the nerve to ask for money?"

Back then, Aunt Paige married and had children early, taking all of Grandpa's money. The orchard was still barren land, and she left it and Grandpa to Dad. Grandpa had been supported by our family all these years. Even after Dad's death, Mom never abandoned him, paying for his medical expenses all these years. Now that the orchard was about to be taken over, she wanted a share? How could I let her have her way?

"Simon, do you think you're so great just because you got into college? How dare you talk to your aunt like that? No manners at all. A child of low status raised by a mother of low status," she sneered, indirectly insulting my mom. Mom had a hard life; she was sold to Dad as a wife by her own father. But Dad was kind and treated her well. Aunt Paige always looked down on her, thinking Mom was of low status because she was sold.

"You have manners, but you don't even care for your own father? Have you visited Grandpa once since he got sick? How much money have you borrowed from us over the years? Have you ever paid it back?" Aunt Paige, seeing she couldn't win the argument, raised her hand to hit Mom.

"It's all your fault, you wretched woman! My brother died, and you keep stirring up trouble. Now your son dares to shout at me. How dare you call yourself my sister-in-law?" I grabbed her raised hand and flung it aside. "And you dare call yourself my aunt? Look at yourself. If you dare insult my mom again, I'll show you just how 'ill-mannered' I can be."

Mom, with tears in her eyes, held my hand tightly. Since Dad's death, no one had stood up for her, allowing Aunt Paige to bully her for years. "You worthless old man, say something! Are you just going to let this ungrateful wretch insult me?" Aunt Paige pushed Grandpa, and Mom quickly shielded him. "You deserve this illness. You brought this illness on yourself. I curse you, you won't live past tomorrow."

Grandpa nearly fell from her push. "You ungrateful child, I raised you for nothing," he said, coughing violently and spitting blood. Mom hurried to find his medicine. I dragged Aunt Paige outside and threw her out the door. "Get out! You're worse than an animal!" Aunt Paige tumbled down the stairs, screaming in pain. "Simon, you'll pay for this. And that wretched mother of yours, neither of you will ever be happy!"

Grandpa wept bitterly. "What a disgrace she is!" I didn't feel sorry for Grandpa; Aunt Paige's behavior today was partly his fault. The doctor said Grandpa wouldn't live past this month, and there was no way I would let Aunt Paige get the orchard compensation.

I took Mom to see the village head and met with the developers, proposing to sign the contract today in exchange for ten thousand dollars less. The developers readily agreed. I told Mom to save the money and never let Aunt Paige know. Mom's eyes reddened, and she hugged me tightly. "Son, I've endured all these years to avoid dragging you down. Now that you're grown, I have nothing to fear."

I comforted her, promising never to let anyone bully her again. In this new life, I was set on making Aunt Paige and her family pay.

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

The next morning, Jere, who worked in the city, furiously pounded on our front door.

"Simon, you bastard, get out here!"

I had a sinking feeling about this. Jere was notorious for being a troublemaker. What had I done to provoke him?

As soon as I stepped outside, he slapped me hard, knocking me to the ground. Blood trickled from the corner of my mouth. My mother and grandfather rushed to shield me, terrified.

"Mr. Anderson, what's going on? What did Simon do wrong?" My mother held me tightly, tears rolling down her cheeks. She had never laid a hand on me, and seeing me hurt broke her heart.

"What did he do wrong? Look at what your son has done!" Jere shouted, his face red with anger and his eyes filled with malice.

He shoved his phone in my face. On the screen was a photo of me and his wife. Due to the angle, it looked like I was holding her.

I suddenly remembered. Yesterday, Brielle had been carrying a bucket of water, and I had offered to help. His wife had seen us and insisted on carrying it herself. How had this turned into such a scandal?

"Mr. Anderson, you've misunderstood. It's not what you think..."

"Misunderstood, my ass! I knew he was no good. So young and already flirting with other people's wives. Shame on you! It's disgraceful," my aunt Paige chimed in, her voice dripping with disdain.

It all made sense now. This had to be her doing.

I stood up and faced Jere with confidence. "I was just helping Brielle carry water. Your wife saw and said she didn't need my help. The photo shows us both reaching for the bucket. How does that make me a seducer?"

Before Jere could respond, Aunt Paige slapped me hard.

"What a disgrace to the family! And you still have the nerve to argue? I'll beat you to death!"

My mother rushed forward and pushed Aunt Paige to the ground. "I dare anyone to touch my son!"

Aunt Paige was stunned. My mother had never stood up to her before. I was equally shocked by her sudden bravery.

She looked at me. "Simon, don't be afraid. From now on, I can protect you too."

Aunt Paige scrambled to her feet, ready to hit my mother. I quickly shielded her.

"You wretched woman, how dare you hit me? You've got a lot of nerve!"

The yard was in chaos. Brielle and her daughter-in-law arrived from next door. Jere had come back from the city early in the morning and hadn't even gone home yet. Brielle quickly got the full story.

She picked up a broom and started whacking Jere. "You ungrateful idiot! Simon is such a good kid, always helping me with the hard work. And you repay him by beating him? You're a disgrace!"

Jere was dumbfounded. I snatched his phone and looked at the photo again. The message had been sent by Aunt Paige.

I advanced towards her. "Did you take this photo?"

She hid behind my grandfather. "Yes, I took it. So what?"

She was so self-righteous, twisting the truth with a misleading photo to accuse me of seducing someone else's wife?

"Which eye of yours saw me seducing her?" I clenched my fists, ready to punch her.

"What are you going to do? With that pose, who knows what filthy thoughts you had?"

I chuckled and stopped advancing. "Aunt Paige, you're accusing her of having an affair. How will she face the village after this? And what about Mr. Anderson? You're putting a green hat on him. How can he hold his head up?"

Jere and his wife realized the implications and started beating Aunt Paige.

"Spreading lies and rumors. If you can't keep your mouth shut, stay home!"

Aunt Paige was left bruised and battered, glaring at me with hatred. "You little brat, you may get away today, but I'll get you sooner or later."

She was dragged to the village committee, where she was forced to broadcast the truth to the entire village. She became the target of everyone's scorn.

Grandfather's condition worsened from the stress, barely hanging on. When Aunt Paige's family arrived, the house was already full of people.

She rushed to Grandfather's side. "You old fool, you can't die yet. You haven't written your will."

Everyone pulled her away. I couldn't hold back any longer and kicked her repeatedly in the chaos.

Grandfather was on his deathbed, and she was still cursing him? All she cared about was the inheritance.

She had a son of her own. Didn't she know to do some good deeds?

I held up a few sheets of paper and shouted, "The will you're after is right here!"

Aunt Paige's eyes lit up as she lunged for the papers. I smirked and threw them in her face.

This is what you wanted. Don't regret it later.
