Chapter 1 Divorce

When Brenda Sanchez left the court, she had two divorce certificates in her hands. However, she was unusually calm.

They had been married for more than three years. Was she sad about the divorce?

Of course, she was. But there was more relief.

Her ex-husband, Miguel Hamilton, didn't love her. Even when he drank too much last night and made love to her for the first time, the name he called was the one of another woman.

Suppressing her depression, Brenda stood by the side of the road and hailed a taxi. After a while, a black Rolls-Royce pulled up in front of her. Through the half-open window, she saw the cold eyes of a handsome man sitting in the driver's seat.

Rich and charming-the perfect description of Miguel.

"The hospital has issued another critical illness notice for Veronica. Come with me to the hospital," he said indifferently after sparing her a glance.

Veronica Ballard. It was that name again!

Even if they had divorced, that name was still bothering her.

"What if I refuse, Mr. Hamilton?" Her voice was soft, but Brenda was no longer as obedient as before.

Miguel frowned. This woman, who used to listen to him, was now blatantly defying him on the first day of their divorce.

Slowly, he raised his cold eyes and stared at her. "Have you forgotten about the current situation of your family? Or do you need me to remind you of the person who caused the car accident that made Veronica injured?"

Brenda's heart sank. She didn't care if her family was going bankrupt, but she wouldn't forget about the car accident three years ago.

At that time, her younger brother, Victor Sanchez, had been in the car with Veronica for some reason. After the accident, Veronica was seriously injured, and Victor didn't want to explain anything about it. Not surprisingly, he was charged with aggravated assault. So at the moment, he was still in prison.

There was one more month left before he would be released.

"If you want Victor to stay longer in prison..." Miguel's eyes darkened as if he was implying something serious would happen.

Brenda was defeated by him with just a few words.

"Fine, I'll go."

She clenched her fists and took a deep breath. Expressionless, she opened the back seat door and got in.

Miguel drove his car to the hospital at a fast speed. It wasn't hard to tell that he cared a lot about Veronica.

Brenda squeezed her palms so hard that blood oozed out of them.

When the car stopped at the gate of the hospital, Brenda got out and slammed the door hard. Lifting her head, she met Miguel's stare and said, "But this is going to be the last time."

Miguel's dark eyes were as cold as ice. He looked at her receding petite body. He was surprised that this docile kitten had suddenly shown her claws and bared her teeth.

After the blood donation, Brenda clutched her arm; her face was pale. She had anemia and was afraid of blood, but she had never told anyone about this.

Back then, her parents, Louis Sanchez and Penelope Sanchez, knelt before her and begged her to save Victor. They said her blood was Rh-negative. As long as she was willing to donate her blood to Veronica, Victor would definitely be saved.

Brenda didn't have a good relationship with her parents. They cared about her brother more than her. However, Victor treated her well. She had once encountered a bully at school. He kept her behind him and protected her like an adult. "Brenda, you go first. I'm not afraid of them!"

By the time she got help and went back to the alley, he was already lying there covered in blood.

Because of this, Penelope beat her hard with a belt.

For the sake of Victor, Brenda agreed to donate her blood to Veronica. But she had one additional request, and it was to marry Miguel. The reason was simple. She loved him deeply and had always buried her feelings for him in the depths of her heart.

Soon, she arrived at Ward 402. The patient's name, Veronica Ballard, was displayed on the door. After pausing for a second, she turned the doorknob.

Although the woman on the bed was having an infusion, her face wasn't wan. She didn't look like someone who was seriously ill.

"Why are you here? Where is Miguel?" she asked in an unfriendly tone.

"Your Miguel loves you so much. Why are you afraid that he will run away?" Taking a few steps closer, Brenda took out the divorce certificate from her bag and showed it to her. "Veronica, I have divorced him. This is the last time I donate my blood to you. From now on, it has nothing to do with me or Victor whether you are alive or dead."

Chapter 2 Goodbye, Forever

"You have divorced?" There was a hint of joy in Veronica's tone for a second before she continued incredulously, "What do you mean by my life has nothing to do with you or your brother? Brenda, he was the one who made me the way I am! You even took advantage of the situation and forced Miguel to marry you in exchange for your blood. Now you regret it? Don't you feel ashamed of yourself? You are so disgusting!"

"I will find out the truth about the car accident sooner or later. But you're right about one thing. Marrying Miguel is the most regrettable thing that I've ever done," Brenda said bluntly.

"You..." Veronica was rendered speechless.

Knowing that Brenda was going to investigate the truth behind the car accident, she felt a pang of inexplicable unease.

Then she saw the man in the suit standing at the door. "Miguel!"

Miguel had just parked his car in the underground parking lot. The moment he reached the ward, he heard the particular line from Brenda. It was as if she had slapped him across the face with the words. It stung like hell.

His expression darkened.

Brenda didn't look at him despite knowing he was there. "I've finished what I wanted to say. Miss Ballard, you better find someone else who is willing to donate blood to you. If the treatment is delayed, you will really be seriously ill."

The color drained from Veronica's face as she finally understood the situation.

Brenda turned around. When she walked up to Miguel, she stared straight into his cold eyes and could faintly sense his anger.

He would've lost his temper if they weren't in the hospital.

Quirking her lips, she said, "Goodbye, forever."

With that, she brushed past him and left the place.

Standing at the door, Miguel furrowed his brow and looked back at Brenda unconsciously.

As she strode ahead stubbornly, her scapulae clearly protruded from her thin body. She didn't stop, nor did she turn around. Soon, he lost sight of her.

After leaving the hospital, Brenda hailed a taxi back to the Hamilton Villa. She then packed her luggage and moved out.

Since she was young, her parents had told her that only the son could inherit the family business. So she had started working part-time jobs in college and hadn't asked the family for a penny.

A few years ago, she used her savings to buy an apartment downtown. Now it finally came in handy.

After cleaning up the place, Brenda stared at her reflection in the mirror. She looked tired and haggard. From a high-spirited woman to a humble one. This was how the marriage changed her life.

Fortunately, it was all over.

Picking up her phone from the washbasin, she blacklisted Miguel without hesitation. Then, she threw it back aside.

Three days later, news of the Sanchez Group's plummeting stock price made the headlines. A large number of shareholders had gathered at the company's entrance to cause trouble.

Brenda awoke early in the morning to the constant vibration of her cell phone.

Turning on the screen, she saw the message from her friend, Lukas Powell. He told her to get to the Sanchez Group as soon as possible because something might happen.

Clutching her phone, Brenda immediately lifted the blanket and got out of bed. Despite the resentment and anger in her heart, she was still part of the Sanchez family.

As soon as the car stopped at the gate of the company building, the media reporters rushed over and blocked the car door.

"Mrs. Hamilton, do you have any explanation for Mr. Louis Sanchez's three billion dollar debt, embezzlement of public funds, and alleged corruption?" A microphone was shoved in front of Brenda's mouth.

Even though Brenda was being pushed by the crowd, she raised her head without fear and said, "Whether or not Mr. Sanchez is suspected of corruption will be investigated by the authorities. As for his three billion debt..."

She frowned slightly. It was true that the Sanchez Group had a financial deficit. But the deficit was only in the tens of millions. How could there suddenly be a huge debt of three billion dollars?

This was literally putting the company in the soup!

"Mrs. Hamilton, what's wrong? Why aren't you saying anything? Are you in the wrong too?"

In addition to the reporters, there were many shareholders at the scene. When they finally saw someone from the Sanchez family, they swarmed over with the banners in their hands.

"You must give us a reasonable explanation today!"

At the same time, a black Maybach limousine pulled up right in front of the Sanchez Group's gate.

Chapter 3 Mr. Hamilton Saved The Beauty

The man in the backseat was none other than Miguel. He closed his eyes as a robotic voice from his phone recited," The number you've dialed is currently unavailable..."

Then, he went to the chat log and typed a message. "Are you there?"

When he tried to press send, a message popped up saying he needed to add the contact as a friend before he could send the message.

As Miguel read it, he clutched his phone so hard that he nearly crushed it. It turned out that this woman had blacklisted his number!

As soon as he opened his eyes, he turned to the window with an angry glare directed at the woman surrounded by the crowd. "You ungrateful woman," he muttered under his breath.

"Everyone! Please listen to me!"

Brenda turned in the direction of the voice and saw Louis standing on the fourth floor terrace of the building. He was holding a megaphone in his hand and shouting, "I admit that my blind judgment has left the Sanchez Group with a huge debt. However, I can assure you that Brenda, my only daughter, is the wife of Mr. Hamilton, the president of the Glory Group. Everyone knows how powerful the Glory Group is. Therefore, you should believe that the Sanchez Group can make up for this loss!"

Everyone in Bacla City knew about the marriage between the Sanchez and Hamilton families. So Louis' words acted like a magic spell that alleviated the growing worry of the crowd and rendered them quiet.

Brenda, however, didn't share that feeling. Her heart was racing, pounding loudly against her chest.

The news that she and Miguel were already divorced had not yet been made public. It would have been advantageous for Louis to say it, to convince the crowd.

But if she agreed to it, that would be equivalent to lying.

"I..." On the other hand, if the news of their divorce were to be announced now, it would only turn into a disaster.

So, she shot a complicated look at Louis and gnashed her teeth. "Yes, the Hamilton family won't refuse to help us with our financial troubles. Everyone, please calm down. Rest assured that we, the Sanchez Group, won't owe any shareholder anything."

"Everyone knows that you're only Mr. Hamilton's wife by name! It's a well-known fact that the relationship between the two of you is not good at all! Mr. Hamilton would give the Sanchez family three billion? Who would believe that? Is Mr. Sanchez just trying to buy time?" A man wearing a peaked cap in the crowd spoke up, hoping that his words would elicit a reaction.

Back in the limousine, the assistant glanced at Miguel in the backseat through the rearview mirror. He wondered what Miguel was thinking.

Judging from Miguel's expression alone, the assistant could tell that he looked as black as thunder.

After hesitating for a while, he opened his mouth and said, "Mr. Hamilton, I'm afraid we won't be able to finish today's handover. How about we go back first-"

Before he could even finish his sentence, Miguel pushed the door open and got out of the car.

"Mister... Mr. Hamilton..."

The assistant felt a lump form in his throat. His gut told him that something big was about to happen!

Miguel walked straight toward the center of the crowd. But after taking only two steps, he heard a loud male voice say, "Also, I have proof that Mrs. Hamilton and Mr. Hamilton got divorced just a few days ago! If that's the case, would Mr. Hamilton really help the Sanchez Group in this crisis?"

Then, the man wearing a peaked cap took out his phone and zoomed in on the names "Brenda Sanchez" and "Miguel Hamilton" on the photo for everyone to see. He continued, "Can you see? It's their divorce certificate!"

As soon as Miguel heard this, he stopped in his tracks.

Brenda also turned to the man. The news of their divorce had not yet been announced. How could this man know about it? He even had a photo of the divorce certificate to prove it!

His words seemed to cause an uproar in the crowd.

"Divorced? They're divorced?" people in the crowd started asking.

Louis had thought he could use the Glory Group to buy some time for his company, but he didn't expect this to happen. Suddenly, his face turned red as he shouted, "You! Stop talking nonsense! They're in a good relationship! Why would they get a divorce?!"

After scolding the man, he turned to Brenda for help, urging her to come up with an explanation as soon as possible.

However, Brenda realized that hiding the truth would only make things worse.

So, she took a deep breath and admitted, "Yes, you're right. Mr. Hamilton and I are already divorced. But that doesn't mean the crisis that the Sanchez Group is facing can't be solved. I will figure out a way to get three billion- Ah!"

Brenda felt someone pinch her arm before she could finish what she was saying. The next second, she was being pushed out.

"Shit! How dare that old bastard try to fool us with his daughter?! Both of them are heartless!"

Brenda felt a pain in her scalp as her hair was being yanked. Then someone grabbed a reporter's camera and tried to smash it against her head.

She instinctively raised her hand to protect herself. As she braced for impact, she felt a hand grab her waist and pull her back hard. The next thing she knew, she was leaning against a man's strong chest.

When she looked up, she saw a face that she thought she would never see again in her life.
