Or will their precious time run out against them before they do?

Chapter 1 One: LISA

"I am going to whip your ass Lisa!" Kayden shouts, nudging me with his arm. His fingers are punching hard and fast on the buttons of his PS console, trying to knock me out of the game.

I scoff. "We will see about that."

My fingers move faster on my buttons, playing hard not to be defeated by Kayden. I am never one to back down from a challenge, and Kayden knows this, hence the reason why he is still nudging me with his arm and trying to distract me. His cologne is not helping matters, and I curse myself for even thinking about how sexy his cologne smells.

"Boom!" Kayden shouts, throwing his console to the rug and jumping up to his feet. It is just a split second, but I feel my heart stop when 'GAME OVER' shows on the screen, broadcasting my defeat.

Oh fuck me! Not again! Why can't I just get my shit together whenever I am around Kayden?!

Kayden sticks out his tongue at me, whining his muscled waist in that sexy way that just reminds me of a fucking hot stripper. Gosh! The V-line of his torso is so perfectly curved and thick and so prominent, and with the way it just disappears into his shorts. . . . . . .

"Hey Lisa. You owe me a wish." His voice drags me back to reality. When he sits back down on the sofa, his skin grazes mine. I swallow, my hand trying to rub off the goosebumps now pricking my skin.

I clear my throat a bit. "Yeah. I remember that. You don't have to rub it all over my face. Just spit it out already."

"Well. . . . . ." he slurs, his deep sexy voice not helping the butterflies fluttering in my stomach.

"Kayden! Just say the damn wish!"

"Calm down Lisa. I am just trying to make it memorable." He smirks.

Oh Gosh! Even the way his eyebrows arch when he smirks is so fucking hot. I bite down on my lower lip, trying hard not to rake down my eyes all over his naked torso. I know my name is inked on the right side of his thick muscled stomach. His name is on mine too. We got that as our friendship tattoo the day we graduated college.

He is telling me to calm down, but if he is aware of the wicked things that his voice and his body is doing to mine, then I am so sure he will shut the hell up.

"Here it goes," he clears his throat, trying to sound serious.

He clears his throat again, and I sigh.

I know what is coming.

He spurts out a laugh.

And then another, until it becomes a continuous trail of hefty laughter that echoes off the walls of the entire luscious living room.

I bend my head and cover my face with my palms, wondering how I ended up with this guy. He may be Kayden Jacobs, the wealthiest and sexiest billionaire in this city, but I doubt if anyone will believe their eyes right now if they get to see how he is behaving right this moment.

Kayden is the only person I know who clears his throat twice before he laughs. He is the only wealthy billionaire I know that sticks out his tongue like a three-year old whenever he wins a game, especially if the game is Call of Duty.

"Kayden, if you continue laughing again, I swear to God-"

"Happy birthday Lisa."

He cuts me off, his hand appearing from his back to reveal an open red box. The glittering diamond necklace in the open box stuns my voice. My mouth is open, but I can't say anything. Just when I thought he was kidding around, he strikes again, playing me another card to mess with my head.

"Say something Lisa, or I will start to think that my bestfriend is already a dumb lawyer."

I slap his arm, hearing him fake a wince.

"That is not a cool way to say thank you." He groans.

"I know that, but somehow, cool ways do not seem to work for you Kayden. You like it hot, and thanks to me, you are getting it just as hot as you want." I snort back.

He shakes his head. "So does that mean I should keep back my gift?" He taunts, his fingers playing with the heart pendant of the necklace.

"Is that what you want?" I ask.

"Alright Lisa. Gosh! Can't someone just play around with you for a sec?"

I chuckle. I will be lying if I say that I do not love my bickerings with Kayden. The way his green eyes dim when he acts affected, and the way he pouts his full pink lips just makes the whole feeling all the more satisfying.

"Okay Kayden." I say, rolling my eyes. "The necklace is beautiful, but most importantly, thank you for not forgetting my birthday."

"I never forget your birthday Lisa. You know that."

The way the sincere words roll off his sexy lips has me gulping in a breath. For a second, I think about how I might feel if I kiss Kayden on those perfect bow-shaped lips of his.

But I can't be stupid. Kayden is my bestfriend.

I push back my insane thoughts.

"Alright Kayden," I say stretching forth my hand to collect the open gift. "I think it now belongs to me."

Kayden recoils back his hand in a instant, eyeing me. "Who said it is yours?"

"Kayden, are you being serious right now?"

"You really have the nerve Lisa. I really wish that on this special day of yours, you finally get to cool down some of those sassiness."

"Oh, so that is your wish, huh?" I fire back.

He nods. I scoff. "Just wow. Alright then, you can keep your gift Kayden."

"Come on Lisa. Stop being dramatic. It is not yours yet. Not when it isn't around your neck yet."

"So you want to wear it around my neck then?" I tease out, folding my arms.

He is silent, but he does not need to say anything. The mischievous smile spreading across his face gives off his answer.

"Alright Kayden. Your gift, your way." I blurt out. I turn around on the sofa so that my back will be faced to him. My hair is already in a messy bun, so my neck is exposed for him to wear the necklace around it.

A minute or more passes, but I still do not feel anything on my neck.

"Kayden?"

Chapter 2 Two: KAYDEN

Lisa's back is faced to me. I catch the familiar scent of her brown hair, and for a moment, I forget how to breathe. Her hair always smells like fresh spring water with a mix of vanilla. Right now, it is tied up in a messy bun. My eyes follow the free strands of her hair as they cascade down to her neck. The skin of her neck is so fair and smooth. A black dotted birth mark sits pretty on the right side of her neck, tempting me so bad to kiss her there. And to kiss her on every other part of her body.

I want to kiss her on the lips, and tell her that I love her. But I know Lisa. She will walk out of my house, and she will never speak to me in the same way again.

"Kayden?"

Her voice trails into my thoughts like a melody. And also like a warning.

'This is the voice of the woman you can't have. So keep your feelings to yourself Kayden.'

I cough, partly to clear the annoying voice in my head, and partly to tell Lisa that I heard her call my name. I bring out the diamond necklace from the box. Ethan really went through hell to reserve this necklace for me, considering the fact that it is its only kind in the entire world.

Well, if Lisa can't have me, at least I can be comforted with the fact that she is wearing a piece of my heart with her.

My hands wear the necklace around her neck. I gulp when my fingers graze her warm soft skin. The feeling burns like electric fire, but I know better than to linger on it. I quickly hook the necklace into its diamond loop and withdraw my hands from her neck.

"All good." I say, trying to sound as light as I can.

She turns around, and nothing prepares me for the mighty flood of adrenaline that rushes down my body when I see the necklace circled around her neck in the most beautiful way possible. The heart pendant sits perfectly above the cleavage of her breasts, and God knows I am trying so fucking hard not to trail my eyes down further.

"It's. . . . . it's beautiful." I manage to stutter out.

"Thanks Kayden," She says, her blue eyes shining more brighter than ever. "I know you have the bucks more than me, but I will still promise to get you something better than this during your own birthday."

Damn it! If only she knows that she is the perfect gift I want for my birthday.

Our silence flows around us like quiet, peaceful waves. Lisa and I have always been comfortable around each other. Even in throes of never ending silence, but I have never told her, or shown her, for once, how badly I want to break the damn silence every now and then by crashing my lips against hers. Her full pink lips are so tempting, and I always imagine how she will taste if I ever get to kiss her on those perfect lips.

She is wearing one of my burgundy shirts. Two of the upper buttons of the shirt are free, and without looking, I know perfectly well that the space the free buttons created on the middle of her chest is showing more of her breast cleavage. I fight not to trail my eyes down further, so I try to focus them on her covered shoulders.

Lisa is just beautiful. And perfect.

And sometimes, I wonder why the hell I can't seem to tell her how I feel about her.

I have the wealth. I have the properties. I have the power. I have the influence. But whenever it comes to my feelings for Lisa, all those things just seem to vanish away. I become some dumb nine year old puppy boy who just can't fucking tell his crush that he likes her.

Lisa Collins is a very special woman. She is strong, and has a mind as stubborn as a mule. If she tells you she won't do a thing, I can bet on all my million dollar estates in Texas and Miami that she will fucking stand by her word.

And maybe, just maybe, in as much as that is an aspect of her that ultimately intrigues me, it is also that part of her that scares the shit out of me.

It scares me to even think that once I confess my feelings to her, and she rejects. . . . . .

Gosh, I don't want to think about that.

Being friends with her is enough. For now.

"So Kayden," Her voice pulls me out of my head, "My house manager just called. They are done with the repairs, so I will be going home very soon. Thank you for allowing me crash here these past few days."

I know I didn't tell you guys about this earlier, but for the past few days, Lisa's apartment has been under some kind of renovation or something. When she told me about it and also of her interest to stay in a hotel while the construction continued, I knew deep down my guts that there is no way I am allowing her spend a dime in some hotel when I have about eight guest rooms in this house.

"So when are you leaving?" I find myself asking.

Her hand takes the bottle of water sitting on the table. "This afternoon, maybe." She answers, opening the bottle. I watch her as she raises the bottle to her lips. The clear liquid streams right into her mouth, and for a fucking second, I find myself wishing I were either the bottle or the water flowing into her mouth.

She stops drinking, and I snap my eyes away from her lips to avoid her catching me staring at them. I focus my eyes on everything else in the room: The sofa, the TV, the jaguar statue standing by the dining area.

Just at anything that will not give me and my gut wrenching feelings away.

And then, I remember! Oh fuck me! Sandra would have baked me alive if I had forgotten about our plan.

"Uhm, since your birthday is not over yet Lisa, I still have one more surprise for you."

"And that is. . . .?" She asks, rising her eyebrows.

"Come on Lisa. You are not supposed to know. That is why it is called a surprise."

"Well then," she nudges closer to me. "Show me."

I swallow, feeling her scent overpowering my senses once again. Her eyes fall to my lips, and for a moment, I think I am dreaming when they linger a bit longer than they should. It takes everything in me not to grab and kiss her right here and now.

"I can't show you if you keep on staring at me like that."

"Like how exactly?" Her voice comes out low, and so soft, and if I hadn't known Lisa Collins so well and for so long, I would have concluded that she is flirting with me right now. One of her knees is stuck in between my thighs, slightly grazing over my hidden cock, and God knows how much I am fighting not to groan out a moan.

"Just get off me." I manage to breath the words out, poking her ribs with my long fingers. That is the only reflex I know she is highly vulnerable to, and I use it to stop her from tempting me into succumbing to the urge of my most sinful desires about her.

She jerks away from me and falls back onto the sofa, laughing and pleading to me to stop. Of course I don't want to stop, not when she is laughing like that.

"Kayden please stop! I can't. . . . .I can't breathe." She gasps out in between laughs and throaty breaths.

I finally stop. "Serves you right Lisa."

"I heard that." She retorts, still trying to recover from her laughter spasms. "But seriously Kayden, you know surprises make me nervous."

"Trust me on this one Lisa. It is not really a big bang surprise, but I assure you that you will love it."

She nods. "Alright then. So when am I seeing this surprise?"

I stand up and offer my hand to her, which she takes. I help her to her feet. My eyes yearns to look into hers, to see if they can find anything that will give me the damn courage to say something or do something about my feelings, but I force my eyes to turn away from her. I do not want to lose my restraints in the blue glaciers of her eyes.

I do not want to lose my bestfriend over something that may not mean anything to her.

"The surprise is a place," I croak out, clearing my throat for what seems like the hundredth time today. "But I will give you a hint: Ladies wear bikinis there, so I will kindly advise you to tuck in some bikinis into your bag before coming with me."

She snorts. "You are taking me to a beach?"

"Well," I shrug. "We will see about that."

Chapter 3 Three: LISA

Kayden's black BMW drives into a resort, and true to my ever unmistakable guts, I sharply inhale the scent of fresh air and moist breeze. There must be water nearby. My thoughts are confirmed when Kayden turns his car off and I hear the distant crashing of water waves.

We alight from the car, and Kayden throws his key to the valet, who catches it.

"Steve, please take good care of my car."

"Okay sir." The fair Steve replies, wearing a bright smile over his chubby face. I can't seem to be able to shake off the feeling that he is just a high school grad who got lucky with getting a valet job in a luxury resort like this.

Anyway, his smile is so bright. And so cute.

Kayden and I begin to walk towards the door entrance of the resort, and I start to feel worried that Sandra has not even sent me a text or even called me since this morning. We talked just fine yesterday, but why is she suddenly MIA today?

Today, of all days? Today that is my birthday?

I know her fashion design job is taking quite a toll on her, but at least, she should have called or sent me a birthday text, even if it is just a one lined text message. But no, she sent nothing. She did not even call me, and although I am slightly pissed with her right now, I am also worried that something is probably wrong somewhere.

I want to ask Kayden if she called him, but when I turn to him and open my mouth, he turns right back at me in that same moment and lifts his index finger to his lips, shushing me up.

I feel like yanking off that finger from his pink lips. That should be my lips there, not his long finger that is now making me think about all the dirty things he is capable of doing to me with it.

Gosh Lisa! Get a grip of yourself!

"Why are you telling me to shut up?" I ask.

"Must you talk Lisa?" He groans, turning me around to back him. I want to protest, but then I feel a silk handkerchief wrapping around my eyes.

He is blindfolding me.

"Kayden-"

"Shhhh," he whispers in my right ear. I almost let out a moan, but I hold it in by biting down on the insides of my cheeks.

I feel his hands tie the handkerchief into a knot at the back of my head. I still feel his body warmth behind my back and his hot breaths tingling the back of my neck.

I swallow, trying to clench back the wetness threatening to drip into my lace panties.

"All set Lisa. All you have to do is trust me and follow my lead."

I simply nod, despite the fact that I hardly caught unto anything he just said. But his arms are wrapped around me, so I guess I will be just fine.

We begin to move. For a couple of minutes, I start to feel the blackness around me worsening my expectation, but slowly, I begin to feel calmer when my skin tingles with the cool air blowing on it.

We must be near the water right now. Even the windy breeze blowing through my hair feels so good.

I can hear a couple of people talking and laughing, but my senses are blurred again when I feel the warmth of Kayden's lips brushing over my ear.

"And we are finally here." He whispers.

God! This man is torturing me.

We stop walking.

"Just take off this blindfold from my eyes Kayden."

He giggles, and I swear it is the most beautiful sexy sound I have ever heard. His hands untie the knot of the blindfold, and when the silky handkerchief falls from my eyes. . . . . .

No way!

Sandra is laughing her ass off, fingers pointing at my face. She knows how nervous I feel about surprises, and I am sure as hell that she is damn well pleased with the horrid surprised look that I am so sure is plastered all over my face as I watch her laugh at me.

God, this girl is really something else.

But she is not the only person or the only thing within my vision that surprises me.

My heart flips when my eyes span across a well decorated table filled with assorted foods and wines and dessert and everything that is powerful enough to make my stomach growl in hunger.

There is also a huge throne-like chair at the head of the table, with a smiling picture of me glowing all over its foamy backrest.

I snap around to Kayden and Sandra, the two culprits who are now teamed up behind my back. They are looking at me and waiting for any reaction from me.

"Which one of you insisted on this?" I blurt out.

Sandra sharply points her thumb to Kayden, who simply nods and raises his hands in the air in mock surrender.

"And you Sandra, you were in on it with him right?"

"We. . . . .we wanted to do something special on your birthday this year. I mean, you never celebrate your birthdays, so the least we could do was to come up with. . . . .this." She stutters, pointing to the table.

Sandra and Kayden know how much I love food. Sandra has always teased me about it since college, but the new deal I am getting from my female work colleagues now is their incessant rants and jokes about how jealous they are that I don't add any weight no matter how much calories or sweet foods I consume.

It is quite a huge blessing for a foodie like me, and I have my mum to thank for that.

"So Sandra, you went MIA on me this morning because of this?" I ask.

"Lisa-"

It takes me just two quick strides to reach her and hug her. "Come on Sandra. You know I can never be mad at you. Especially if it is about food."

She laughs and hugs me tightly. "Happy birthday Lisa." She whispers into my ears.

"I love you Sandra." I whisper back.

"And I love you too." She coos, petting my hair.

We hear a loud cough, and we both separate to glare at the guy who just disturbed our moment.
