Secretly Married to Billionaire

Author: : Eileen Pryce
Genre: Billionaires
Real love stories are not as beautiful as fairy tales. But that doesn't mean it will go wrong. It all depends on how people choose to live with it. Like Anna, an ordinary woman living an everyday life amidst the glittering life of Los Angeles was forced to bury her fairy tale wedding dream as the marriage order came. Moreover, she married the most desirable, handsome, young CEO, the successor to the Byrne business empire, David Byrne. A small mistake that totally changed their life. Could they live with that? Especially when one problem after another shook their loveless marriage.

Chapter 1 Broken Heart

Was this really what it felt to be a broken heart?

She felt endless sadness, and the will to live a day was nothing. Not to mention her tears like rain, unable to stop falling from her eyes. However, it was nothing compared to the reality that forced her to continue meeting the source of her pain. It felt like she wanted to disappear right away.

If she could, she would definitely do it. Unfortunately, she couldn't just do it. Giving up only for a guy seemed not right. In fact, she could have been enduring it all this time. This gonna be merely another part of her broken heart phase.

But was that true? Why did this hurt so much?

"You're not eating?"

A faint voice entered her ears. She heard it, or she thought she heard it. It was kinda confusing because her brain and body were out of sync. She wasn't even sure she really heard it. The surrounding voices sounded the same. Not clear.

"Anna."

If the first one was a male voice, the second was a female voice. The two people sitting next to each other stared at her in confusion. Anna had not changed her activities. The knife in her right hand and the fork in the left prepared to cut the steak but ended up nothing.

"Anna," the woman called again by slightly raising her voice. She had to do that to get the attention of her interlocutor back.

And it worked. Finally, Anna's long daydream about her broken heart was broken. She was forced to come back to reality. The harsh fact that she was with a happy couple required her to act happily throughout their meeting.

"Oh, Bec." She automatically called Rebecca's name out. "What did you say?" she asked after having thought about why Rebecca had called her and couldn't find the reason. Of course. She would become superhuman if she could focus on two things simultaneously.

"I didn't ask. It was Matt. He asked why you aren't eating." Rebecca sounded exasperated as she repeated the missed scene. How could Anna daydream in the middle of their dinner? Also, this was a crowded restaurant.

Anna's breath stopped when Rebecca said Matt's name. But, her follow-up sentence made Anna realize that this was not the right time to react that way. She had to stop her own stupidity. "Right, I'm having dinner." She muttered, which only could be heard by her. Yes, she was that careless, so she let her mind wander elsewhere after understanding the risks of agreeing to their dinner invitation.

"Why? Is something bothering you?" This time, it was Matt who asked her. He looked at Anna with worry etched on his face. Their old friendship was enough to tell Anna's habits. She was not usually like this. The Anna he knew was a talkative person.

"Just my job. They transferred me to take care of a new celebrity." Out of nowhere, a lie smoothly escaped Anna's lips. But that was not entirely a lie. It was a fact that she got a new job. The only lie was she didn't really think about that earlier.

"Who?" Rebecca immediately joined their new discussion. It seemed her annoyance had dissipated.

"Two new celebrities are entering the agency. But, I still don't know who will be assigned to me." Anna said as she continued eating. She put a piece of steak into her mouth.

"Who are they?" Apparently, Rebecca was still interested in the topic. It was understandable. Her job as an office worker barely allowed her to meet celebrities, unlike Anna. Anna was used to meeting them because she worked at an entertainment agency as a manager for celebrities.

"Kate Burton and Adam Green."

"Adam Green?" Rebecca repeated a name that her best friend had mentioned. "Is Adam Green at Lives On?" Cautiously she asked with enthusiasm hidden.

"Yeah. Being his manager will be so busy because he becomes popular after-"Suddenly, Anna's words came to a halt as consciousness hit her. "Ah, I forgot you're his fan." She remembered their conversation two weeks ago when she had accompanied her best friend to watch the series all night. No. Supposedly, she was forced to do it because how could she sleep when the television was still on in her room? This was what it was like to live in a simple apartment. There was no barrier between one area and another, which made her have to be patient to accept Rebecca's presence invading her precious rest time.

"So, is it really him?" Rebecca looked like she would jump out of her chair if she didn't remember it was a public place.

Anna nodded confidently. She saw Adam several times at her agency. And with the news of him joining there, his visit must be related to contract discussions.

Having managed to control herself, Rebecca changed the way she spoke. "May I stop by at your office?" She asked hopefully. If her job didn't allow her to meet her idol, she would take all the opportunities. And coincidentally, it came from her best friend.

"She's there to work, Bec. Not to take you on tour." Matt replied quickly. He was confused about women. Was it those much in idolizing actors?

"Relax, I won't bother her. I'll just come to see from afar."

"Still, you can't be there. It's an office."

"I said I won't interfere with her work. If you don't believe me, come with me."

A small chuckle escaped Anna's lips at their argument. Rebecca was like that. She would look for opportunities to see her idol up close, and Matt would always react the same way. A man who was tired of hearing his girlfriend's enthusiasm for celebrities.

Perhaps, that desire had not wholly disappeared. It was about joining in the glittering of the entertainment world. Oh, Rebecca used to be on several movie projects. With a well-proportioned body and a familiar face of a Latina woman-her mother is from Brazil-she got there even though she couldn't get the primary roles. She only got small scenes. But it didn't take long for her best friend to quit after realizing the fierce competition in that world.

"Okay, okay." In the end, Anna would mediate between them. She was amazed at how they had maintained their relationship for the past six years when they were still arguing over trivial matters. Moreover, they were getting married in two days. "I still don't know who I work for. But if it's Adam, I'll make ways for you to meet him." She ended it with a prudent decision.

"Oh, Anna." Rebecca put on an overly moved expression. Obviously, it was acting. "Thanks a lot. You're the best." However, her words were sincere.

Anna smiled at her behavior, which was, actually, not much different from hers. As Matt had often said, women were sometimes overly enthusiastic about their favorite idols. Likewise, with her. Years of getting into the entertainment world apparently did not make her immune to that. The proof was when she and Rebecca were crazy about an actor, Matt couldn't stand it and chose to be silent.

"You're too nice."

And his last comment slowly erased her broad smile. Presumably, Matt was right again. Anna was so kind that she could smile even when she should have cried. Her idol, the man she had loved for years, would marry Rebecca. It was definitely good news and also a source of her sadness. She had to end all her feelings for him, or else she would sink into her broken heart.

Chapter 2 The First Encounter

Anna didn't come home right away.

She decided to head to a nearby bar after refusing to join in their car. Of course. They planned to take her to the cinema, and it was clear she didn't want to be a nuisance. To be precise, she couldn't see their affection anymore. It would be too much for her. She had to prepare her heart for the real broken heart.

So, she lied to want to go straight home. She wanted to enjoy her time off before a heap of schedules ruined her life. One more thing. She needed to take care of her body for their happy day. Yes, she would be the bridesmaid of the bride. And as Rebecca's best friend, she also had to give a speech. What a challenging task.

Luckily, they didn't force her. Anna had to thank Matt for preventing her from accompanying the bride before the wedding. But, unfortunately, it resulted terribly for her. His action warmed her heart even more instead of turning it off.

So, here she was, in the Byrne hotel lounge, which was a block away from the restaurant.

Why did she choose this place over the nearest bar?

Because she had been here and she liked the atmosphere. It was on the tenth floor, so it had magnificent views.

Anna placed her half-filled whiskey glass on the long table near the glass wall that gave the night sight. Actually, she wanted to take a private table to freely enjoy her solitude. But all the tables near the glass wall were reserved. Inevitably, she had to sit here with several other people who seemed to have the same fate as her.

She took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. Her mind was still full of the big event two days away. What should she do? She was afraid of getting out of control and ending up ruining the party.

However, it seemed impossible. Since when could not Anna control herself? Unless she was drunk, Anna believed that she could have complete control over her body. The problem was her expression. She wasn't sure she could smile all the time. What if she suddenly burst into tears? Even though she was tough, she was still a woman who had a sensitive part. She would have a hard time holding back her tears once they came out.

"May I sit here?"

A deep voice entered her ears. Unlike before at the restaurant, she responded quickly. "Sue." Her lips spoke fast. She hadn't even seen his appearance yet.

"Thanks."

And when a glass similar to hers appeared on the table, her eyes moved from there to his figure. Then, she found a handsome, casual guy wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts. Despite that, she still could capture his charisma. He must be not only an ordinary person.

Then she realized something. She shook her head quite hard. This was not the time to think about that. She must not have been fascinated by him at the first meeting. It was just a physical attraction. Oh, did that mean she was expecting another meeting?

"Is there a problem?"

That was a useless question. Anna was sure he already knew the answer. As a man who had charm above average, he must often get this kind of reaction from women. "No. I just thought you looked awesome." This was worse. Her lips were sassy by revealing her honest thoughts.

Therefore, it was natural for him to laugh at her. The woman he had just met complimented-seduced-him. "You're the first to say it out loud."

"Really?"

"Yes. Women usually gave signs or were shy to say that, even acted flirty with me." He answered after settling into his position.

"So you often got that," she muttered to herself more. No wonder because he was most women's ideal type. Look at the athletic body under his shirt. She could see it from the muscles in his arms.

Then a small chuckle escaped his lips, showing that he heard her words. It made her feel bad. How came? She sounded like belittling him. Or not?

"I'm sorry." She apologized. Who knew if her words offended him? After all, they had met for not over five minutes. A good impression was vital at the first meeting.

"It's okay." He began to stop laughing. "You're completely right. I may look arrogant in your eyes."

"No!" She rejected it quickly. She had never said that. "I was like a stupid to think someone like you would never receive such a compliment." She tried to explain her meaning as best she could.

He smiled at the nervousness she showed. "I'm kidding." Then he raised his glass. "Cheers?"

Anna followed him by raising her glass, then flicking them till they made a ting sound. "Cheers." After that, they drank their respective drinks.

"Do you come alone?" she asked after a few seconds of silence. To be honest, she was not good at this, starting a conversation. But Anna had to know whether he needed someone to talk to or didn't want to be disturbed. "Oh, I didn't mean to seduce you," she added as she remembered what he had said before about the woman who flirted with him.

He laughed again. Presumably, Anna turned into a joker in his eyes. "Then why did you ask that?" He asked back.

"Well," she paused as she played her forefinger on the rim of her glass. She was a little embarrassed about blatantly stating her accusations toward him. "I need to know if you need a friend or just want to be alone." She should say this instead of seducing. He must have thought that she was weird.

"Hm," he muttered under his breath, pondering the answer. "I don't mind having friends. But I'm not very good at talking."

"Me too."

"So, we're going to be quiet?"

Anna was silent for a moment. However, her forefinger was still moving as her mind worked to concoct the image of their next minutes being together. "What do you think?"

He was a bit surprised to hear that. Most of the women he met would use this opportunity to talk to him about anything. They would try to create an easy-to-get-along image. "Silence is okay if you want it."

The movement in her glass stopped. Apparently, he was like her that was okay to the chat also didn't mind being alone and kept quiet. "Our first meeting is bad, right?" She smirked while saying that. Precisely because their intentions were the same, she made it even worse.

"Not really." He reacted quickly. "It's nice to meet someone like you."

"Someone like me?" Anna parroted in a surprised tone. "How am I?"

"You say whatever's on your mind." He said something so pointed that Anna couldn't help but show a grin. And again, he chuckled.

"I must look funny to you." Anna didn't know whether to laugh or sullen at that. It wasn't something she could be proud of.

"A little."

Anna glanced at him sharply, then laughed too. "That's better than making you angry or sad."

"Yeah." He nodded in agreement. "My name is Dave. What's your name?"

Anna smiled and held out her hand. "I'm Anna." She said her name after the man accepted her handshake.

Chapter 3 Getting Caught

Anna felt a hand slip under her body, then another hand rested on top of her. Next, she felt her body move as if pulled towards the hand's owner, bringing their bodies back in close. Although her eyes were still closed, his movement managed to wake her up and acknowledge where Anna was. She was in Dave's arms, the man she had only met last night.

She smiled faintly as the memory of last night entered her mind. Long chats accompanied by whiskey ended with sex. Yeah, not a weird ending, indeed. A convenient interaction brought the desire. This was normal for adults.

Anna moved her body back to be closer to the muscular body behind her. But, as the comfort was just got, suddenly, the door opened.

"What the hell are you doing?"

Like a thunderclap, it startled the two people who were still on the bed and forced their eyes wide open. They automatically got up, and it was the wrong decision. The blanket covering their bodies fell off, revealing Anna's naked upper body. Her reflex brought it back up, though it was too late.

"Grandma," Dave called hoarsely. He could only stay where he was because he, too, was naked. The blanket really was the only thing covering him and Anna.

Anna's face turned pale as Dave called the person who casually ruined their morning. And her breath felt like stopping when she found not only an old woman but also another woman behind her. What was this? Why did it feel like she was caught red-handed?

"Grandma, I can explain." Dave was still trying to speak in a sober consciousness. To be honest, his brain couldn't work correctly yet. However, he had no other choice but to force it to think fast.

"Put on your clothes. We'll talk outside," Grandma insisted before turning away and leaving the room.

"You're such a fool. We said we would visit this morning." The woman who was with Grandma said in disbelief on her face. Then she followed Grandma.

And all Anna could do was put on her stupid expression. She didn't understand the situation, except that they were caught naked in the same bed. Besides, Anna didn't get why Grandma and the woman looked so annoyed with them? Did she do something wrong? Wait. Could it be that she was sleeping with someone's husband? Her last thought made her body freeze.

"Sorry to startle you. I totally forgot my grandma was coming." Dave immediately got up to grab his clothes scattered on the floor. This resulted from their passion for throwing away their clothes randomly. "We'd better get dressed quickly," he continued, helping to pick up Anna's clothes.

Anna still didn't understand. But, she complied by accepting her underwear and quickly putting it on. They changed into more decent looks to meet Grandma and the woman in the next minute.

"My grandmother is a bit old-fashioned. She's probably nagging us about sleeping together." Dave warned just before they opened the door. After receiving an understanding nod from her, he pressed the knob.

Dave walked briskly to the sofa, with Anna following behind him. She seemed to hide behind his body, trying hard to avoid the accusing stares from Grandma and the woman. But as they got there, she couldn't do it anymore because now, they were sitting side by side. Her only shield was silence.

"What's your name?"

But, apparently, Anna couldn't use it. She clearly knew Grandma directed the question at her. "Anna Dunn." Doubtful, she spoke. She either wanted to hide it or mention it. In the end, she decided to be honest because she had no lies to tell.

"What's your job?" Grandma asked the following question.

"I'm a manager for celebrities." Anna must have looked like an ant to the Elephant. Already caught red-handed, this time Grandma interrogated her. Really, what did she do wrong?

"What about your parents? What do they do?"

"Grandma!" Dave called out his protest. Why was the question swiftly directed about her parents? That was not right.

"Shut up." Grandma immediately muffled it with her absolute command. Even the woman next to her couldn't help but only watch this awkward situation. "What do your parents do?" she repeated with the same question in a friendly tone as before. However, everyone knew her kindness was full of meaning.

Anna didn't answer right away. She looked at them one by one, then swallowed hard as she realized the situation was not on her side. "My father is a lecturer, and my mother used to be a teacher but quit after giving birth to me. She wants to be a full-time housewife to take care of my sister and me."

Grandma nodded in understanding and seemed satisfied with the answer. "Are you married?"

"Grandma!" Dave returned his protest. He began to suspect the direction of the conversation. Matchmaking. He was tired of hearing Grandma ask him to do that.

"No." She was hesitant at first, but she answered anyway.

"Engaged?"

"No."

"Have a boyfriend?"

Anna shook her head. "No."

Grandma was silent. She looked to thinking about something meaningful based on her brief investigation. A few seconds later, she was ready to announce the results. "Then, it's decided. You two are getting married today."

If the first incident was like a thunderclap, the latter sentence was like lightning striking the three people there. Grandma was no longer discussing matchmaking but marriage! It really surprised them.

"Grandma!" Dave and the woman shouted loudly. Their protest was not kidding. How came? It was a unilateral decision, and it was about marriage! Who would want to just get married, especially after only meeting for once?

"What does it mean?" The woman asked Grandma for more explanation. She knew her grandmother was old-fashioned and firm about this. But, married? That was overkill.

"Dave slept with her. So he should be responsible for marrying her." Grandma strung her words in a calm tone. Apparently, she was used to facing rejection. Yeah, yeah. She seemed to interfere in Dave's life. However, it was all for the sake of his happiness. Starting a family was the best decision in her life. And she wanted Dave and her other grandchildren to feel the joy.

"Don't joke, Grandma! How can someone get married just because they've slept together?!" Dave began to get annoyed with his grandmother. This was the twentieth century. Not even getting married was common.

"Yes. Your grandparents." Again, Grandma replied with her composure. "You two are getting married. There's no objection."

"Grandma, you should also consider her feelings. Don't make unilateral decisions." The woman tried to calm Grandma and control the situation.

Anna was slightly surprised as the woman pointed at her. Though she deliberately withdrew from the debate that she did not understand. Oh, she knew it had to do with her fate. But, her mind still couldn't keep up with this confused state. Or perhaps her consciousness had not fully recovered, so her body and mind could not react logically. Supposedly, she joined them in resisting Grandma's absurd wedding plans, right?

Suddenly, Grandma got up and walked over to her. Then Grandma sat down next to her, which almost widened her eyes at the unexpected behavior. Inwardly, she was anxiously awaiting what would happen next. Especially when Grandma unexpectedly grabbed her hand.

"Anna, let my grandson, Dave, marry you," Grandma said with a hopeful look at Anna.

Anna was a woman who couldn't bear such things. Seeing the way Grandma asked for it obviously made her heart waver. "I don't think we need to get married." Worry was in her voice. It was a mix of confusion over the situation and the marriage.

"See?" Dave joined them, confirming his thoughts on Anna's refusal.

"My grandson is indeed impolite. But I will make sure he is responsible for you." Grandma didn't respond to him as if she didn't hear his words and continued her conversation with Anna.

Anna had difficulty swallowing. She didn't like it when someone asked her like this. "I'm okay. So-"

"Look, I'm old grandma," Grandma cut in quickly. "I won't live long. All I want is to see my grandson get married," she added.

"Grandma!"

"Huh?"

Dave's call and Anna's response came out at the same time.

"He never wanted to do the matchmaking I planned. So please, marry Dave. For this old granny." Grandma stroked Anna's hand, still with the same look.

Anna was really faltering. Finding someone begging her had wavered her heart, let alone an old woman doing that. Somehow, she saw the figures of her grandparents in Grandma. Two persons who loved her very much, besides her parents. They definitely wanted the best for their grandchildren.

"O-okay." Finally, the decision was taken. And she didn't know if it would be a good or bad thing.
