Chapter 1 One

Kimberly got up from the bed and quickly walked to the bathroom like a zombie.

She is going for an interview and she had woke up so late that her heart was beating fast.

"Oh Lord, I pray they aren't through with the interview yet. I promise to go to church on Sunday, If you just let me get the job. I can't believe the devil woke me up at this time." She mumbled as she took off her clothes to take her bath.

After bathing, she wore her new ivory dress with a black tiny belt. She did a light makeup and let down her brown hair before grabbing her shoes and bag.

She left the house without wearing her shoes but slippers. Once she get there, she'd behave well.

"Why's no cab coming?" She groaned as she walked down the road in a hurry praying for a cab to come her way.

Her interview was 8:00am but she woke up at 9:12am.

A car speedily passed her side and since it's raining season, her area will always be muddy.

The car splashed mud on her ivory dress which made Kimberly blink thrice. That was unexpected.

"What the f*ck!" She gasped and stared at her dress, the mud before moving her gaze to car that had stopped and was reversing back to where she stood.

Kim waited for the driver to come out but it would seems like eternity waiting for that person to come out.

She decided to pay the driver a quick visit.

"Are you among the dark angels the devil sent to spoil my day and interview?" She asked driver who seems to care less.

"Answer me!" Kimberly yelled.

She knew she was running out of time but she needed to put this guy in his place.

She opened the car door and tapped the man fiercely.

"What are you going to say about this?" She pointed to the dress he ruined.

"I have a very important interview to go and I'm late already but you decided to ruin everything for me. You won't even say anything. Are you dumb?" She asked amused and angry at the same time that he's quiet and won't move and inch from the driver's seat.

He finally moved his head amd faced her.

"You should be happy I reversed back." He finally spoke.

Kimberly laughed sarcastically and said, "Of course! I should be happy that you reversed. That's nonsense. You should be apologizing to me and not telling me rubbish! Argh! I can't believe I'm having a conversation with you when I'm at the verge of losing a job."

"What if I don't? I won't even apologize." The man answered coldly.

Kimberly shook her head and removed the handkerchief in his breast pocket and cleaned her dress with it.

The stain was still there but it was better than before.

"That's your reward for not going to apologize. That's small. Don't let me see you again, you won't like me." She said sternly and walked away. Her shoes dangled as she walked away.

She finally saw a cab and boarded it. Kimberly still had to go for the interview, she really need to get there to see for herself if the interview ended or not.

*****************

Minutes later, she got down from the cab and walked gingerly into the big company with her slippers.

"Good morning ma'am. Is the interview still going on?" She asked the receptionist with a wiry smile.

"Oh yes! It hasn't started yet. Go to the sixth floor, you will see the others there." The young lady replied and went busy again.

They've not started yet? What happened? Are they waiting for someone? Maybe she.

'Don't be silly, Kim." She cautioned herself.

She used the elevator and got to the sixth floor, she met others who look exhausted while some look energetic like she is.

They were five in the hallway, plus her will make six.

"Is the boss not yet here? I've been here for a hour and half now." One of them complained as she tapped her feet on the floor impatiently.

Immediately, a middle aged man appeared with a very big smile on his face.

"The boss Is here. Y'all can go in according to your number." The man instructed and looked directly at Kimberly.

"You're the last to come?" He asked and she nodded. "Okay, just know you're the last. What did I say?"

"You're the last, Sir." Kimberly replied him.

"No, I said you're the last. I mean you're the last person to come. That's what I mean." He explained further.

"I understand. The last to come but first to get the job." She replied with confidence.

"Whatever! You all should do your best. He's kind of selective. Good luck!" He wished them before leaving.

The first one went inside and few minutes later, the five outside heard a noise from the CEO's office.

"Get out!!" The voice was fierce and cold.

It made others flinch and murmur about what's going to be their encounter with him.

Turn by turn, each human came out of the Lion's den with a sad face.

It was Kimberly's turn. She wore her shoes and walked boldly into the office.

At first, she wondered if the office itself is another mansion. The office was very big and it was painted with white and gray color.

It took Kimberly almost three minutes to walk and search for where the boss is. His picture hung on the wall made Kimberly stop and scan the picture well.

"Ah!" The word dropped from her mouth.

She moved further with sweaty hands. She was suddenly nervous.

"Welcome." The voice from him alone made her shiver.

She finally got to him though he was backing him with the swivel chair.

"Y-yes, sir." She stuttered as she looked at the CEO's suit.

' It's the same with the guy's own.'

'Maybe the wore the same suit. But the picture.'

"Your name?" He asked calmly.

"Hmm......" Has she forgotten her name all of a sudden?

"K-kimberly White, Sir " she answered obediently.

"Okay, what will you do if you become my secretary?" He question and this time, he faced her with a smile.

Kimberly's little property dropped. Her bag.

"Good morning, Sir. Maybe I should be going back. I've lost the job already." She bent down to greet him.

Then, she remembered how much she needed the job.

"We meet again, huh?" He grinned like a devil as he stared at her information in front of him.

"No Sir, maybe you saw my twin sister. It wasn't me. I mean, I collected her......no, I..I actually...what will I even say? Sir, forgive me. It was the devil that actually used me and you." She pleaded.

"Seriously?" He responded coldly.

"I didn't know you'd be my boss. I've trespassed, please forgive me. I don't want to lose this job, please." She knelt down this time.

How much does she need that job?

Oh she needed it so badly. So so badly.

"Will you pay for what you did to me this morning?"

The CEO asked her.

Kimberly thought twice before replying him.

"I will pay. I just need the job."

"Don't back out when it gets tough." He warned, pointing a pen to her. "You're hired"

Chapter 2 Two

"Don't back out when it gets tough." He warned, pointing a pen to her. "You're hired"

"Thank you, Sir. I promise to do what you ask me to do." She smiled and grabbed her bag.

"See you on Monday, Sir" She got ready to go.

"I didn't ask you to leave my office, Miss Kim." The CEO said. "And, I didn't say you will start work on Monday. You're starting today."

"B-But today is friday. I don't even think I can work with this ruined dress."

"You don't know me, do you? Well, I'm Damien and no one, I repeat, no one disobeys me. Do you want this job or not? If you still want, your desk is outside this office waiting for you right now. You know what I mean."

"Yes. It means get to work." Kimberly replied and sighed.

She was planning on going home after getting the job. She'd celebrate alone and get ready to be a secretary on Monday.

"You'd see few blue files on the table. Sort them out." Damien instructed.

"How do I sort them out?"

"Secretary Kim, I guess I have to give you some rules. First, don't make me talk too much. Once you ask a question and I don't reply you, don't repeat it." His eyes went to her fingers but he tried to ignore it. Probably, fashion.

Kimberly became uncomfortable but answered with a nod.

"Yes, sir."

"Secondly, you must bring me coffee every two hours. Black coffee." He said again and sat upright. "I will tell you the remaining rules when it's time. Get back to work." Said Damien as he faced his laptop and began operating it.

"Sir, where do I get the coffee? I don't know anywhere here."

As she expected, he didn't answer her. She won't repeat the question so her job won't fly away from her hands.

She left the office and met others outside though three are no where to be found but two are still here.

"Did you get the job, Miss?" One of the two asked.

"She can't. Who would even work with that man? He's a lion!" A guy answered instead of Kimberly.

"Shut up. I thought you said you needed the job badly. Miss, did you get the job or he yelled at you to leave his office? You know he's kind of weird. He behaves like a wounded lion." The girl chuckled with a shrug.

"His fiancee probably left him a day to their wedding." The guy said and they all laughed till they forgot that someone was watching them. Damien.

He kept nodding his head as he watched his so called new secretary laugh with the two fools.

To let them notice is presence, he knocked on the door he was leaning on and cleared his throat.

The trio stopped laughing immediately. Kimberly looked like she was bitten by something and without telling her what to do, she ran off without looking back.

"I'm going to be in trouble someday." She mumbled.

*********

She got to the empty desk and sat down, looking at the files scattered in front of her.

"What am I suppose to do with these files?" She asked herself.

"Take them back to the boss. He needs to review and sign some documents. Those files are from Dante Enterprises." Kimberly turned to see the man he met earlier when she came late ad wished them good luck.

"Thanks." She appreciated.

"I can't believe you got the job." The man groaned before stretching out his hand to Kimberly. "Nice meeting you. I'm Mr Ben, the managing director here. I'm still single." He winked and licked his lower lip.

"I'm Secretary Kimberly. Secretary Kim for short. I'm engaged and will be getting married in a few weeks time." Kimberly showed off her engagement ring in front of Mr Ben. "Don't try to flirt with me. You're old enough to birth me." Kimberly gave him one last look before packing the files and head to the lion's den.

She opened the door and walked to his seat but he wasn't there. He was under the table.

Doing what?

She decided to bend down and found out that he was trying to pull a book out.

"Sir, can I help?" She asked him but he gave no response , so she kept quiet.

"Pull it out from there." He ordered almost like a Major in the army.

"Yes sir."

In a second, she drew the book out and placed it on the table.

It was written 'Life goes on'

"What do you want?"

"I bought the files for you to sign sir. Mr Ben told me that I should bring it to you." She explained.

His face was expressionless. Unreadable.

"Take the files and follow me. We are leaving for Canada today." He stuck his left hand into his pocket and grabbed his phone and laptop at once.

"Sir!?" Kimbeek gasped. "I..I just started work....f*ck! I should be happy I'm traveling out of te country for the first time. I didn't hear about this and I'm not with anything."

"We are having a meeting there with the Canadians." He further explained. "We are going today and arriving today. No worries. Take the taxi, I don't want your stained cloth in my car " He admitted sternly and walked away.

"He's so f*cking rude! How i wish he isn't my boss. That rude son!" She cussed.

**********

The sky suddenly turned dark. It was about to rain. The wind blew hard. Kimberly packed her hair while he followed the sudden strange Damien.

He's beginning to act strange.

The rain suddenly poured which made others ran inside except for Damien and Kimberly. He stopped and stood in the rain shaking till he knelt down immediately.

Worriedly, Kimberly ran to him since she hadn't gone far from him.

"Sir, sir! Are you okay? Let's leave! The rain is pouring hard on us." Kimberly kept shaking him. The two of them were totally wet.

Damien with his eyes half closed, said, "Mama! Papa! Emily!" He stretched out his hand like he was reaching for someone. He fell into Kimberly's arms and stared at the sky then Kimberly.

"Call the ambulance." He ordered strictly even in that situation. And soon, he passed out.

Kimberly called out for help and they took Damien into his car to the hospital.

The nurses assisted them and took him to the VIP ward for treatment.

Kimberly walked to the reception and sat among others waiting for someone to come out of the room and tell her what's wrong with her boss.

She remembered how he had called his papa, mama and the last person, Emily. Why would he call them with so much pain in his eyes.

Yes, she saw the way his face looked so painful.

Did he lost his family or something?

No, she needs to mind her business.

Soon, the doctor came out and looked everywhere like she was looking for someone. Kimberly knew she was looking for who brought him here. So, she stood up and walked to the doctor.

"Good morning, I'm Mr Damien' secretary. Is my boss alright now?" She asked.

The doctor smiled and patted her shoulder twice. "He's okay. That guy you're seeing is like a son to me so, I must do my very best to make him look healthy. Don't worry, he will be discharged tomo....." She didn't get to complete that sentence when Damien came out looking wet, f*cking hot as well and okay. Just as of nothing happened apart from being wet.

"If you're going to say tomorrow Mrs Thompson, then, I won't be able to wait. I have a meeting in the next two hours and I need to get there before that." Damien interrupted while Kimberly was still staring at the hot boss in front of her.

"Are you going to keep staring or you're gonna get your ass ready!?" He fired which frightened her. It made her flinched.

"Sorry, Sir. But it's still raining. You might not want to go outside again." Kimberly responded.

"It's still raining?" He questioned with a frown. Kimberly nodded.

"Yes" She replied. "You can go out and check, Sir."

Mrs Thompson chuckled at the glare Damien did at Kimberly and held his hand.

"You can't understand him right now, dear." She was talking to Kimberly. Then, she faced Damien, "Go back inside. You can go when the rain stop." Mrs Thompson pushed him back to the ward while Kimberly followed them.

Getting there, Mrs Thompson left the room leaving Kimberly and his boss.

"Go to the car and get me another suit and shirt for me." Damien commanded.

"Hmm, Sir, actually your car isn't here at the moment." Answered Kimberly.

"Why? Who returned the car back?" He knitted his brows.

"We didn't use your car to bring you here. It was another person's car. You said you don't want me to sit in your car and I need to obey, I don't wanna loose my job. We used Mr Ben's car." Kimberly explained while fidgeting her fingers.

"You used that common car? I mean, that thing to bring me here? What the f*ck!" He came down from the bed and charged towards the her then pinned her to the wall.

Oh! Kimberly nearly pee on her body. Her heart was beating like a party drum.

"A car is a car. What if you had died back there......" He cut her off.

"I can't die. I can't die the second time!!" He yelled and hit the wall hard.

"Have you died once?" Curiously, she asked. Even if curiosity kills the cat.

"It's none of your business, okay? Don't do that next time cause small thing can make me angry." He warned and left her but it seems he hasn't finish with her yet, he pinned her to the wall again, fanning her neck with his hot breath. His cold lips touched her ear.

"What's going to take us back?" He asked in a wicked tone.

"T-The ta..taxi can take us back. I don't have my phone with me, I would have called someone to bring your car." Kimberly replied as shivers ran down her spine.

Damien laughed like he haven't done that for years.

"I'm sure my phone isn't here too?" He rubbed his nose after a sniff.

"Yes."

"Where did you put it?"

"I don't know. You didn't give me your phone to hold." She answered. "It might be inside your pocket." She added with confidence.

The thunder started to strike loudly that made Damien suddenly drew his secretary closer to him. So tight like a fearful baby clinging to his mother.

"Stay like this for few minutes." He told her and she nodded. Still speechless.

Every strike from the thunder made Damien let out few gasps and drew her more closer.

Kimberly can't tell that she was choking already but he looks like he needed that at the moment.

Few minutes passed, the rain stopped and Damien loosen his grip from Kimberly. She coughed and stood upright.

"You can take the bottle water on the table there." He showed her where the bottle is.

"Thank you." She appreciated.

"Your phone....the flashlight is blinking."

"F*ck!" He swore.

He took his phone out from his pocket. It was wet but at least it was still on.

"We should get ready to leave. The fools won't even know if the weather here is bad."

Damien tried calling some people from the company but none of it was reachable.

They came out of the room and met Mrs Thompson who's coming their way. She bid them bye after giving Damien some medicine to take after his lunch.

The rain had stopped though a little drizzling but it was better for Damien.

"So, we are going to take a taxi? Have never taken a taxi before and now you're going to make me take one." He groaned.

"I'm sorry Sir. If we don't take a taxi, I'm afraid another rain might fall and you'd end up in the hospital again. This time, you might wake up two days later." No one should tell her that she's crazy. She knew that herself.

"I feel like punching the life out of your body." He growled.

A cab was coming, Kimberly had to stop it.

"Dam-Ton Company" She told to the cabman and he asked them to enter.

Kimberly was the first to enter while Damien was still standing outside.

"Are you not coming Sir?" She asked.

"The cab smells like sh!t!!" He admitted.

"You've not entered the cab."

"I don't need to enter........"

"Sir, can you look up at the sky? Another rain is going to pour. And I care about your health that I don't want you to die the second time. Can you come in now, please." She requested.

"Fine! But the car stinks." He reluctantly entered the car and the cab man drove away from the hospital.

Kimberly could hear him mumble something out.

If she wasn't mistaken, she heard him mumble,

"I don't want to die like them. I don't want to die the second time."
