Chapter 1 Our little secret

POV:Anderson peters

"The DNA results are ready," Dr. Simon announced.

My heart thundered against my chest, palms sweated, muscles tensed, shivers of uncertainty,to cut the shot,my eyes were twitching my eyes seem to always sense an impending doom before it arrival.

At a snail pace, I approached Dr. Simon's outstretched hand and accepted the brown envelope.

Though I yearned for closure, fear and denial held me back. what if I am Jason's father.... Jason, Amanda's 7-year-old, potentially my son!.

Jason was born 9 months after my wedding to Vanessa. Vanessa is the absolute love of my life, she is the best woman any man could ask for,my soulmate, she would be so devastated if she hears of this....

Oh na na what's your name 🎶🎶🎶 oh na na.... 🎶 My phone pierced the silence:

"Hello, honey. Ethan and I are nearby. Want to grab lunch?" Vanessa's voice shattered my reverie.

"Hey, Vassa, trust you are good,I would have loved to but Company outdoor activity. Can't make it," I stammered.

"You didn't mention". Well my secretary and I would be meeting a client soon after lunch,I would be home by 6. Love you."she whispered

"Love you too, Vassa." I couldn't bring myself to saying more knowing I might have made the biggest mistake of my life. The call ended; reality sets in.

The brown envelope was sealed with inscription that read: "Anderson Peters." Tearing it open, my heart raced.

My eyes caught sight of the boldly written;"Probability Paternity: 99.99995%"

For a long assumed moment I stood firmly but my legs failed I collapsed into a metal chair few steps away from me,it made a loud noise, drawing startled glances,I couldn't care less, every effort I had invested into my marriage is wasted.

My 7-year marriage to Vanessa is at the verge of crumbling! I sat in stunned silence, the metal chair creaking beneath me.

The probability of paternity stared back: 99.99995%. Jason was my son! My mind reeled "How could I face Vanessa?"

"What about our 7-year marriage?"

"Would she forgive me?" Tears welled up, but I fought them back.

I needed clarity. Amanda's face flashed before me her smile, her laughter. Our secret. My phone buzzed again: Vanessa.

"Hey, honey. Just checking in."you aren't home yet I hesitated, unsure what to say. "Vassa, I...I need some time. Personal stuff."

"Everything okay?" She asked

"No...yes. Just overwhelmed.

"Love you."

"Love you too." I ended the call, feeling guilty.

The hospital's bustling atmosphere faded into background noise. My world shrunk to a single question: How did I get here?

* * *

That fateful night, at my office dinner, I'd met Amanda. Vanessa's unexpected arrival had sparked joy,she was accompanied by Amanda.

"Hey, honey!" Vanessa exclaimed.

"Vassa! What are you doing here?" You said you couldn't make it I asked, surprised. "Don't say! You really can't wait to be my wife huh?" I chuckled.

Vanessa's radiant smile captivated me.

"We can't," she teased.

The thought of it makes me want to boogie she swings happily.

Amanda interrupted, "Hello?"

"Oh,Amanda meet peter, peter meet Amanda my client turned friend,we were out together and thought to stop by,"she has been so amazing.

Turns to Amanda."Girl, where have you been all my life?"

Amanda laughter filled the air,oh come on you are the most amazing she said.

I smiled, feeling drawn to Amanda's warmth. "Nice to meet you, Amanda," I said, shaking her hand.

Amanda's eyes locked onto mine, a hint of mutual interest. "The pleasure is all mine," she replied.

Vanessa's voice broke the spell. Let's grab some drink,we approached a table, settled and ordered a few bottle of champagne.

The evening was a beautiful one.

Vassa, you can't drink that much I exclaimed as I watch her gulp down a full glass of champagne.

"I can drink that much",just for tonight she screamed filling up another glass.

"How would you get home after this"I asked attempting to discourage her?

She snarled,"Amanda is here she would get me home Right?Amanda,"she said facing her

"I would do that much",Amanda said sipping from her glass,"except that I can't hold my alcohol,"they all bursted out laughing except that Vanessa's laughter was due to alcohol intoxication.

"So Peter what do you love about Vanessa?"

Amanda stared a conversation.

"He loves my body!,"Vanessa screamed.

Amanda and Peter busted out laughing again knowing that Vanessa was getting intoxicated by the drink.

Amanda's gaze lingered on me before turning to Vanessa.

"I'm sure that's not all" vanessa.

Vanessa's laughter echoed, her inhibitions fading.

"Peter loves it from behind!" she slurred.

Vanessa winked. "He loves my body!"he loves that I ride him so good.

I blushed, uncomfortable. "Amanda, maybe we should get her home?" I suggested.

Vanessa protested. "No, I'm fine!"

Amanda intervened. "Let's get you home, Vanessa."

As we stood, Vanessa swayed. "Whoa, easy!" Amanda grasped her arm. I supported Vanessa's other side.

"Thanks, Amanda," I said. "No problem," Amanda replied.

Our hands touched, a fleeting connection.

Vanessa's gaze drifted between us. "You t-w-o...take care of me"

Unbeknownst to me, that moment sealed my fate.

We got Vanessa into my car,the ride back home was rather awkward as Vanessa kept murmuring about how I love her body, how i fuck her so good, she just could not stop talking.

We arrived at Vanessa's at exactly 10:00pm we alighted and assisted her into the bed room, she would'nt stop talking I tried to pacify her until she dozed off,Amanda at this time was in the kitchen.

I walked up to her gulping down a huge bottled water.

"You sure needed that" I chuckled. "Wasted?" I asked amist smiles.

Amanda's eyes sparkled with amusement.

"Definitely wasted," she chuckled.

" Not as much as the lady in there",I pointed toward Vanessa's room.

Our laughter filled the kitchen. As we calmed, an awkward silence fell.

"Thanks for tonight," I said.

"No problem," Amanda replied. Our gazes met, a fleeting connection.

"Vanessa's lucky," Amanda whispered.

"Lucky?" I asked.

"To have you," Amanda's voice softened.

My heart skipped a beat.

" I'm not sure how appropriate it is for me to say this, considering my relationship with vanessa but you're captivating,All you've done this evening is take my breath away"Amanda whispered with a gaze attempting to take off my dross.

My heart skipped a beat. "Peter, you're stunning, your kindness,intelligence....she continued, walking toward me Our faces inches apart,my cheeks flushed, eyes sparkling.

"Vanessa's lucky," she whispered again.

"Lucky?" I repeated, heart racing.

"To have you," Amanda's voice trembled.

Our lips almost touching. Amanda suddenly took my lips into hers,i found myself kissing her passionately. Soft and supple, her lips were nothing like I had expected, and as the kiss deepened, that was all I wanted to do...stand there...kissing her....It seemed like the most natural thing in the world.

Except that it wasn't.

Time froze as our lips danced. The world outside melted away. Amanda's fingers traced my jaw, sending shivers.

"More," she whispered.

Our bodies glued, lost in the moment. Suddenly, reality crashed back: Vanessa. My wife. My vows! Guilt pierced my heart.

"Amanda, we can't," I protested.

"Why not?" she asked, eyes searching.

"Vanessa," I confessed.

As if I wasn't just talking to her,Amanda ran her hands down my groin and felt my bulge,"you want this".she whispered into my ear tickling me.

swiftly she bent down took my member into her mouth,There was no going back,I moaned in pleasure as she swayed her tongue professionally round my dick,it felt like heaven.

The pace at which she does this was swift,I struggled so hard to catch my breath,it was so good Lost in the moment,I lift her up onto the kitchen cabinet raised her yellow pleated gown slid out her panties then i deeped my finger into her Pussy stroking her,she let out a short lived scream as she moaned in pleasure Grabing my hair like her life depended on it .

I kissed her passionately, caressing her boobs as she let out a soft moan I pulled her closer as I inserted my dick into her vagina she moan out so loud that I thought Vanessa might wake up.

Our body swayed rhythmically, sweat breaking out of our bodies, yet we couldn't get enough of each other.

my body heated up,ecstasy, felt like some sort of rigor,I moaned out loud and collapsed on the ground,I just broke my vow to Vanessa.

Chapter 2 The wave

Vassa's POV

"This or that?" I asked, raising the limited-edition Sunshine Dior bag and Short Cake Luiviton purse above my head.

Peter eye locked onto the yellow Dior bag and he nodded."

"You okay?" I asked,my voice laced with concern, noticing his gloomy expression.

"Office troubles?"

Peter shook his head. "Just a little trouble here and there. I'll figure it out."he replied his tone hesitant.

Tick! Tick! Notifications,Peter raced off to pick up his phone He paused, and I sensed hesitation.

"Honey,Amanda is back! I would be meeting her after work today. I might be late." I added.

His eyes narrowed. "Amanda is ba-ck?" Peter stalled, avoiding eye contact.

"Yes, Amanda. Is everything fine babe? I felt a pang of unease as I noticed peter's pale face.

Peter planted a kiss on my forehead. "Have fun with Amanda, okay? Love you."

"Love you too, baby," I replied, heading out.

***

I approached ethan with a smile.

"Hey ethan, perfect timing!,I'm meeting Amanda in a few minutes. Want to be my driver?"

He chuckled ."The pleasure's all mine."taking a low bow. Ethan picked up my bag, heading for the car.

* * *

Amanda screamed, waving her hand excitedly. She had a way of looking stunning without even trying, and every color seemed to complement her skin perfectly.

Today was no exception, she looked absolutely radiant.

"Girl, you look hot!" I exclaimed. Hotter than I remember.

Amanda smiled slyly. "Not as hot as you are."

We shared a warm hug as we sat down. Girl it been, six? Seven years? I am so excited to see you again

"How's Jason?" I asked. Amanda rolled her eyes. "Oh, Jason's still trying to figure out how to tap into my sanity secrets."

I chuckled. "If he doesn't drain you, who will? I can't wait to meet him I said excitedly."

Amanda laughed. "And how's Peter?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well, Peter's fine," I replied, "except he's been acting strange lately....

"Strangely?" Amanda asked, her voice tinged with surprise.

"Yeah," I replied. "Today, I mentioned you being back and us hanging out, and he suddenly turned pale.

He's been walking on eggshells around me lately, and then this late night bathroom calls".

Amanda's eyes narrowed. "That does sound weird. What's going on with him?" Amanda's eyes sparkled with curiosity.

"And did you ask him what's wrong?" I shook my head.

"No, I didn't. I didn't want to push him. But it's been bothering me all day."

Amanda leaned in, her voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "I think I know what might be going on."

My eyes widened, intrigued. "What?" Amanda hesitated, glancing around the room before focusing on me again.

"I saw Peter with someone yesterday,I am certain he wouldn't tell you .... with someone who looked unfamiliar."

My heart skipped a beat. "Who?" Amanda's voice dropped to a whisper. "Amanda. I heard him call her,Yes, I know, same name, but this Amanda was... different. She was tall, blonde, and had this confident air about her."

I felt a pang of unease. "What were they doing?" Amanda's eyes locked onto mine.

"They were laughing and talking, very cozy. I didn't think much of it at first, but now that you mention Peter's been acting strange..."

My mind was racing,i remembered on several occasions Peter had quietly left my side to take his calls in the bathroom in odd hours, but I didn't think much of it until now .

Who is this Amanda, and what did she have to do with Peter's sudden change in behavior? Suddenly, my phone buzzed. I glanced at the screen, and my heart skipped a beat. It was a text from Peter:

"Hey, babe. Just wanted to check in. Everything okay?"

I looked up at Amanda, my eyes searching for answers. What was going on with Peter, and what did this mysterious Amanda have to do with it?

Amanda's eyes widened as she read the text over my shoulder. "What are you going to say?" she whispered.

I hesitated, unsure of how to respond. Part of me wanted to confront Peter about Amanda's revelation, but another part of me didn't want to jump to conclusions. "I'll play it cool," I decided, typing out a casual response.

"Hey, babe. Yeah, everything's fine. Just hanging out with Amanda.

We both sat in silence, waiting for Peter's response. The tension was palpable, and I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. Finally, my phone buzzed again. I glanced at the screen, my eyes scanning the message. Peter's response was brief:

"Good. Be careful. Love you."

Amanda frowned. "That sounds suspicious. What do you think he's hiding?"

I bit my lip, trying to decipher Peter's cryptic message. "I don't know, but I'm going to find out," I said, determination etched My heart sank as I realized the truth.

Peter was indeed hiding something from me, and it had everything to do with this mysterious Amanda.

"I would suggest you do not ask peter about this,to avoid him playing the guilty card instead embrace the law of detachment and move on with your life, men are not to be trusted.

Jason's father did the same to me he promised me the world and some sly bitch is married to him thinking she has found the perfect match Amanda said angrily. "

I nodded slowly, taking in Amanda's words. She had a point, confronting Peter might not yield the truth, and it could even lead to more lies and manipulation.

As I thought about it, I realized that Amanda's advice was rooted in her own experiences.

She had been hurt before, and she didn't want me to go through the same pain. "You're right," I said finally, a sense of resolve washing over me. "I don't need to confront him. I deserve better than someone who would lie to me and flirt with other women behind my back."

Amanda's expression softened, and she put a hand on my arm. "Exactly, Vassa. You deserve so much better. Let's focus on moving forward, not getting stuck in the past."

I took a deep breath, feeling a sense of liberation wash over me. It was time to focus on myself and my own happiness, even though I want to confront Peter badly.

"Let's do it," I said, smiling at Amanda. "Let's move on and find our own happiness."

Amanda grinned, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "That's the spirit, Vassa! We'll focus on ourselves and our own happiness. No more wasting time on men who don't deserve us." We clinked our glasses together in a toast to our newfound independence.

As we sipped our drinks, I felt a sense of empowerment wash over me. I was taking control of my life, and I was doing it with my best friend by my side. The rest of the evening was a blur of laughter, music, and dancing.

We let loose and had the time of our lives, not worrying about what Peter or any other man thought.

As the night drew to a close, Amanda and I hugged each other tightly. "Thank you for being here for me," I said, my voice filled with gratitude. Amanda smiled. "Anytime, Vassa. We're in this together, always."

I nodded, feeling a sense of peace wash over me. I knew that no matter what lay ahead, I had Amanda by my side, and together, we could face anything.

Getting home,Peter was sitted on the couch,he seem terrified as I walked in Babe? Are you owk? I couldn't sleep, how is Amanda? I smiled coyly, your Amanda must be doing very well I guess Peter looked lost in denial, what do you mean my Amanda babe?

"See Shhhhhhsh I am not in the mood for any conversations tonight, goodnight." I stormed out of the room we both shared entering into the spare room we barely used.

I slammed the door shut behind me, feeling a sense of satisfaction at leaving Peter looking confused and worried. I knew he was trying to play dumb, but I wasn't having it.

As I lay down on the bed, I couldn't help but feel a sense of empowerment. I had taken control of the situation, and I had made it clear that I wasn't going to tolerate his lies and deceit. I closed my eyes, feeling a sense of calm wash over me.

I knew that this was just the beginning of a new chapter in my life, one where I would prioritize my own happiness and well-being.

As I drifted off to sleep, I could hear Peter's faint knocking on the door, his whispers of "babe, please open up." But I ignored him, knowing that I deserved better than someone who would lie to me and betray my trust.

The spare room, once a symbol of our guest space, had become my sanctuary.

Chapter 3 Things fall apart

Anderson peters POV

I grabbed my phone and dialed Amanda's number....."bitch I begged you!,I begged you not to tell Vanessa anything, what did you tell her? Why is Amanda spending the night in our guest room?" I flooded her with rhetorical questions.

All I could hear was a fading laughter of Amanda "oh come on boy,I didn't tell her yet",she laughed out loud again and hunged up.

I stood there, frozen in shock, as the line went dead. Amanda's laughter still echoed in my ears, and I felt a wave of panic wash over me.

What did she mean, "she doesn't know yet"?

Did Amanda plan on telling Vanessa everything? I thought we had an understanding, that she would keep our secret safe. I tried calling Amanda back, but she didn't answer. I was left standing there, feeling anxious and unsure of what to do next.

I looked around the room, feeling like I was trapped. Vanessa was sleeping in the guest room, and I had no idea what she knew or what she was thinking.

I tried to calm myself down, telling myself that everything would be okay.

But deep down, I knew I was in trouble. I had messed up, and now I had to face the consequences.

I slowly made my way to the guest room, hoping to talk to Vanessa and figure out what was going onbut as I approached the door, I heard the sound of her soft breathing, and I knew she was asleep.

I hesitated for a moment, wondering if I should wake her up. But something held me back. Maybe it was fear, or maybe it was just uncertainty. Whatever it was, I decided to leave her alone, and instead, I went back to our bedroom, feeling lost and unsure of what the future held.

Amanda's pov

The following morning I woke up to the sound of my phone buzzing on the nightstand. I reached over to grab it, seeing Peter's name flashing on the screen.

I smiled to myself, knowing that he was probably freaking out about what I had told Vanessa.

I answered the phone, hearing Peter's panicked voice on the other end.

"Amanda, what did you tell her?"

I laughed, enjoying the sound of Peter's desperation. "Everything but nothing " I teased, knowing that I had the upper hand.

I could hear Peter's frustration, his questions and demands for answers. But I just laughed again, enjoying the power dynamic.

"You should have thought of that before you shut me out" I said, hanging up the phone.

I lay back in bed, feeling a sense of satisfaction. I had Peter right where I wanted him, and now it was time to take care of Vanessa.

I picked up my phone again, sending a text to Vanessa. "Be a power girl do not let this men use you",by the peter just called asking me to talk to you,do not listen to him......

I smiled to myself, thinking about the drama that was about to unfold. This was going to be fun. I waited for few minutes then my phone buzzed with a response from Vanessa.

"I know not to give myself away to deceit".

Another buzz came in,I opened the message

"let see at yours", Peter...I smiled in anticipation.

I spent the rest of the morning getting ready for my meeting with peter. I took my time, choosing an outfit that would make me look confident and poised.

I did my hair and makeup, making sure I looked flawless. As I was finishing up, I received a text from vanessa.

"Amanda, would you be free today" I rolled my eyes, laughing at her reverie. She has no idea what Is going.

Peter knocked on my door,When he walked in, I could see the anger and hurt in his eyes.

He made his way over to the chair where I sat, his shoulders squared and her head held high.

"Amanda," he said, his voice cold, "why are you doing this to me?"

I smiled, gesturing him to sit down. ", I think we need to talk about what's going on."

"I want you,Peter ever since the last time I couldn't get you off my head. I want you to be mine. if you don't give in I would have to destroy what you share with Vanessa."

"Stop it! Stop all this rubbish I am married to Vanessa I cannot be with you!"

"Then I would be sending the DNA results to vanessa."

"Have you no shame? Vanessa is your friend why are you trying so hard to break her"

Maybe, I said trying to force my lips on his.

"Amanda, stop!" he exclaimed, trying to reason with me"

"Have you lost all sense of decency?

Vanessa is my wife, and she trusts you. How can you betray her like this?"

My expression turned cold and calculating. "Vanessa is blind to what's really going on," i sneered. "But I see the way you look at me, Peter. I know you want me. And I'm not going to let you have it both ways. You either choose me, or you lose Vanessa. It's that simple."

Peter felt a surge of anger and disgust at my words.

"You're insane, Amanda," he spat. "I'll never choose you over my wife. And I'll never let you ruin our marriage."

My face twisted with rage, and i took a step closer to peter. "We'll see about that," i hissed, my eyes blazing with fury.

"Now leave, Peter. And don't come back until you're ready to make a choice."

* * *

I stood in the doorway, my eyes locked on amanda's determined face. I could feel my heart racing with anxiety as I realise the extent of amanda's obsession.

"Amanda, stop this," i pleaded, trying to reason with her.

"You're not thinking clearly. You're going to hurt a lot of people if you continue down this path."

But amanda just laughed, a cold, calculating sound.

"I know you're just trying to protect your precious Vanessa," she sneered. "But I'm not going to let you have her. You're going to choose between us, Peter. And if you don't choose me, I'll make sure that Vanessa knows all about our little affair."

I felt a surge of anger at her words, but i knew i had to keep my cool. I couldn't afford to manipulate her into doing something i would regret.

"I'm not going to play your games, Amanda," i said firmly, standing my ground.

"I'm married to Vanessa, and I'm not going to betray her for you or anyone else."

Her face twisted with rage, and for a moment, I thought she was going to attack me But then, she regained control over herself, and a sly smile spread across her face.

"We'll see about that," sge said, voice dripping with malice. "You just wait and see."

With that, she pushed me out of the door and slammed it shut behind me.

I stood there, feeling stunned and shaken, wondering what I had just gotten myself into. I turned to leave, my heart racing with anger and frustration.

I couldn't believe the audacity of Amanda, trying to blackmail me into choosing her over my wife.

I knew I had to protect Vanessa and our marriage from Amanda's manipulative games.

I walked back to my car, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease.

I knew that Amanda was not going to give up easily. She was going to keep pushing and manipulating until she got what she wanted.

I got into my car and started the engine, my mind racing with thoughts of how to protect Vanessa and our marriage from Amanda's wrath.

I knew I had to be careful, that one wrong move could spell disaster.

As I drove away from Amanda's house, I felt a sense of determination wash over me. I was going to do whatever it took to protect my marriage and my wife.

I was going to fight for what was rightfully mine, no matter what Amanda threw my way. I took a deep breath and focused on the road ahead, my heart filled with a newfound sense of resolve.

I was ready for whatever Amanda had in store for me. Bring it on. I walked into my house, still reeling from the confrontation with Amanda.

I was determined to protect my marriage and my wife from her manipulative games.

* * *

The following evening I entered the living room, I noticed a white envelope on the coffee table. It was addressed to me, but there was no return address.

I picked up the envelope and opened it, pulling out the contents.

My heart sank as I saw that it was a copy of a DNA test result. I felt a wave of panic wash over me as I read the words: "Paternal match: 99.9%".

I knew that this was from amanda. But I was determined to keep it from Vanessa.

I knew that if she saw this, it would destroy our marriage. I quickly grabbed the paper and shoved it back into the envelope, trying to think of a way to dispose of it.

I couldn't let Vanessa see it or had she seen it?she was the one who had received the package but the seal wasn't broken. Just then, I heard the sound of the front door opening. Vanessa was home.

My heart racing, I quickly hid the envelope in my pocket, trying to compose myself.

I couldn't let Vanessa suspect anything.

"Hey, how was your day?" I asked, trying to sound casual. "Fine." she replied almost not audible.

"How about you?"

I forced a smile, trying to keep the guilt and anxiety from showing on my face. "It was fine. Just a long day at work."

Vanessa nodded and started to walk towards the kitchen. "I'm going to make dinner. Want some?by the way a package came in this morning addressed to you,I left it on the coffee table.

"Oh I saw that, office stuffs, thanks."I nodded, trying to keep up the charade.

But inside, I was dying. I knew that I had to find a way to keep this secret from Vanessa, or risk losing her forever.

I let out a silent sigh of relief as I watched Vanessa busy herself in the kitchen. It seemed that Amanda's plan to send the DNA results to my house had been foiled, at least for now. But I knew that I couldn't let my guard down.

Amanda was unpredictable and ruthless, and I had to be prepared for anything. I made a mental note to myself to find a way to shut Amanda up for good.

I couldn't let her continue to threaten my marriage and my relationship with Vanessa.

I felt a little ease as Vanessa seemed to be cool with me today, which likely means she doesn't know anything yet.

I have to do everything to protect my marriage and shut Amanda up.

As I watched Vanessa, I felt a surge of determination and love for her. I was going to do everything in my power to protect her and our marriage, no matter what it took. I walked over to Vanessa and wrapped my arms around her, pulling her close.

"Hey," I said, trying to sound casual.

Do you want to talk about last night? I asked.

Vanessa's voice was laced with a mix of emotions hurt, anger, and vulnerability. "Peter, I need to ask you something," she said, her eyes searching my face for any sign of deception.

My heart sank, knowing where this conversation was headed.

"What is it, Vanessa?" I asked, trying to sound calm.

Vanessa took a deep breath before asking me the question that had been weighing on her mind. "Are you cheating on me, Peter?"

My eyes widened, and i took a step back, trying to appear shocked by the question.

"What? No, Vanessa, of course not," i said, trying to sound convincing.

But Vanessa's eyes narrowed, and she took a step closer to him. "Don't lie to me, Peter," she said, her voice firm but shaking with emotion. "I've seen the way you've been acting lately, the way you've been distant and preoccupied."

My heart sank, but i wouldn't give in Vanessa "I am not!."

"I don't know what you heard but I know just you, there is no one else I said confidently."

I took a deep breath and launched into a convincing speech, trying to persuade Vanessa that her suspicions were unfounded. "Vanessa, I swear to you,I am not seeing anyone."

I could see the doubt in Vanessa's eyes, but i pressed on, trying to reassure her. "I know I've been distant lately, but it's just been a tough time at work. I've been under a lot of stress, and I haven't been able to spend as much time with you as I'd like. But that doesn't mean I'm interested in anyone else."

Vanessa looked at me searchingly, and I could see the uncertainty in her eyes. But I kept talking, trying to convince her that i was telling the truth.

"Vanessa, I love you. You're my wife, and I'm committed to our marriage. I would never do anything to hurt you or betray your trust."

Slowly but surely,I could see the doubt in Vanessa's eyes begin to fade. She looked at me and i could see the love and trust there, still.

"I believe you, Peter," she said finally, her voice soft. "I'm sorry I doubted you."

I felt a wave of relief wash over me i had convinced Vanessa that i wasn't cheating on her. But i knew that this was only a temporary reprieve.

I still had to deal with Amanda and the secret she knew.

"I miss us."I said kissing her on the forehead Vanessa smiled and leaned into me. "Yeah, me too. I held her close, feeling a sense of relief and gratitude.

For now, at least, everything seemed okay. But I knew that I couldn't let my guard down, not even for a moment. Amanda was still out there, waiting for her chance to strike
