Chapter 1 1

BLAIR POV

The spring sun shines down like a sword aimed at my own personal gloom. I stepped into the grand adorned ballroom, my heels clicked on the marble floor, and I could feel all eyes on me but I ignored all of it because today was my best friend's engagement party.

The chandeliers cast a mocking golden glow on me. A swift wave of insecurity washes over me as I search for my own seat among the set-up round tables.

I instantly spotted Ella who stood around some guests, her cheeks flushed with so much excitement. Our eyes coincidentally met, and she gave me a smile and a wave, nearly hoisting a glass of wine in the process.

"Blair! I'm very glad that you could make it!" she said as she threw her arms around me, the familiar scent of her perfume instantly easing most of my discomfort. I inhaled more while I tried to relax In her embrace, giddy energy emitting off of her.

"Of course, I won't miss this special day of yours for anything. You look absolutely stunning!" I say. "I just can't believe that this is actually happening."

"I mean, it's really happening." She gushes happily. "We have been planning our wedding since college, and I still can't believe that we get to experience mine first." She catches herself and bares her teeth apologetically at me when her soon-to-be mother-in-law appears and takes a hold of her arm.

"Ella darling, you need to meet my Auntie from Italy, she has been dying to meet you." I watched as Ella rolled her eyes slightly while she dropped the wine glass on the table, she shook her head a little at me as she whisked away.

I glanced around the tables, searching for my seat, trying to perhaps forget about the memory of us planning our weddings together, our dream destination, and how we plan on starting our married lives in the same neighborhood. But then Smith dumps me out of the blue, shattering those plans to pieces, throwing me back to square one while Ella heads to the top.

Some things, you only sort of get over, and some things you just can't forget. "kick off the pity party, Blair. You're better off without him." I muttered to myself.

"Blair, you can sit here with us." My attention is pulled to a table in the middle of the room. Ella's work friends were pointing at an empty seat.

"You look amazing!" One of them said, she touched my arms, her blue-painted nails a harsh contrast against my pale skin. "How on earth do you get your hair to that perfect color?"

The others at the table chime in, showering me with compliments about my bag, and makeup, wondering if I go to the gym every day, and asking how I could possibly be single. Their kind remarks only tend to Intensify my awkward dateless state, so I force a small smile.

I grabbed a glass of wine from the passing waiter before gulping the whole content down my throat to avoid responding to any of these questions. I already knew where they were all driving at.

Twenty-six. That very number kept roaming through my mind as the conversation drifted to wedding details and future family plans. In a few months, and I will reach that milestone, with nothing to show for It but a broken heart and volunteering at the orphanage home.

The hall soon echoed with loud music, the sound vibrating through my entire body. Couples flood the dance floor, spinning and twirling under the swirling light.

I stood up abruptly, neatly upending my glass. "Excuse me for a bit."

The girls at the table barely even looked in my direction or noticed my exit because they were already deep in debate over weddings and divorce. I walked through the crowd, trying hard to dodge Ella's grandmother who never seized the opportunity to question when I would be getting married.

The laughter, loud noises, and chuckles pressed in on me until I could feel myself suffocating. I was glad when I arrived at the lobby area, it was empty and silent. The only distant sound that could be heard was the music coming from the ballroom.

I took a deep inhale and exhale with my eyes tightly shut. I noticed the upholstered loveseat at the extreme end of the hallway and strode toward it______just as I was about to sit down, someone landed on the sofa with me at the same time.

The couch sank in from the sudden weight. The slight creaking sound from the chair could be heard. I turned in shock and my eyes met with a piercing green gaze beneath arched brows. I blush, taking in the sight of the rigorous handsome man, sitting only inches from me, dressed in a dull blue designer suit, with muscular broad shoulders and a sharp jawline.

He tipped his head a little, his shadow perm haircut was giving him a very strong aura of confidence. "Not a fan of free food and wine, are you?"

His joke caught me off guard and put me immediately at ease. "More like___ trying to avoid questions about when my turn to get married will be," I responded with a scoff.

"My grandmother has been doing that to everyone all night, including me." He shakes his head, sitting deeper on the couch.

"You know___what? Your grandmother?" My eyes widen from what might be shock, but also from the curiosity of how he might be connected to Ella's grandmother.

He sighed heavily, raking his hands into his hair. "Funny how they can be so extra in all of this, right?"

I smiled widely. "So, I take it that you are also not a huge fan of big parties like this," I uttered, glancing in the direction of the ballroom, making it clear that we're both avoiding it.

He touched his nose slightly before speaking again. "Loud noises aren't just my thing___they make me regret a lot of choices." I catch his eyes roaming over my dress, while he casually looks around the hallway. "I'm Ronnel, by the way." He holds out a hand, gazing straight into my soul.

"Blair." I slowly take his hand, astonished by the warmth and strength of his grip. I couldn't help but hope that he couldn't sense how nervous I was because he was just so hot.

His eyes light up with understanding as a grin spread across his inviting lips. "So__I finally get a chance to meet the infamous Blair."

My whole body froze the moment I heard that, I couldn't help but wonder what this gorgeous man sitting next to me knew about, and who had been feeding him things about me. With a furrowed brow and a tint of my eyes, I decided to ask, "What do you mean by Infamous?"

And just like that, the pieces of the puzzle started coming together in my mind, and he did confirm my suspicion.

"You know what my sister always said about you? She said that you are the badass, you always give the advice that always ends them in trouble." He glances at me, this time around__ his green eyes staring deep into mine.

I forced a small grin under his close scrutiny. "You are Ella's brother? The one who has been away for like ages?" I questioned trying to ignore the accusation while I pulled my gaze away from him, I was sincerely struggling very hard not to stare too much at his features.

Ella and I had only touched little topic about her brother but how could she not tell me that he was this gorgeous?

"Trying to avoid the question?" He teased with a small scoff escaping his delicate pink lips. "That only gives me the answer right away____ you are indeed a bad influence!" He added while his eyes roamed over me like some cozy blanket, heating me up inside.

"Hell no_it just happens that your sister and I are a good match," I responded in a defensive tone. "We actually balance each other out, just like bees and honey____we are inseparable." I stare at him, wondering what else he might have heard about me.

"I didn't mean any of what I said in a bad way, it was more of me trying to compliment, it just seems like my sister always finds a way of attaching your name to any adventure she tells me about." He says with another charming smile.

"We are practically inseparable, we have been best friends for a long time." I adjusted myself on the couch to stare at him more closely. "Weren't you away for a while?" I asked when I remembered Ella telling me that he had left to make a lot of fortune.

He turned his attention back to me while he cleared his throat. "Yeah," he simply responded as our eyes met again, and this time around I didn't look away.

"So, what do you do?" He asks, moving the centre of conversation to me. "Don't tell me you are also into Ella volunteering in the pet store and doing her makeup product shit?" his low-interest tone instantly annoys me. Ella has an amazing career, one she built from the ground on her own. Her eyes for creating her own makeup brand are iconic____ her love for animals only made her volunteer in pet shops during the weekends.

"I wish," I say, taking my gaze to the floor. "Ella is actually doing great and her success is eccentric but what I do is actually a lot different from hers_____ more like a badass in hashing out business deals."

"So___you finally accepted to be a badass now?" He says, grinning. "But I already knew you were one. Well, hopefully, you still save a little of your time to have some fun." He gazed at me with a sultry smile.

I wasn't honestly sure how I feel about him yet. Whether he was an asshole, or just a tough surface, protecting whatever wound he had inside. It was just difficult to decide, but the obvious fact is the one that tingles between my legs. He's gorgeous, and masculine beyond belief. All I could imagine was that he'd be amazing in bed and the thought of him taking me over, devouring me while I moaned his name was heavenly.

Chapter 2 2

BLAIR POV

An unintentional blush appeared on my cheeks from my spicy thought but a familiar voice hit me out from the thought bringing me back to my present moment.

"Blair! Where have you been? I have been looking for you," Ella gushes, trudging towards us with her very high heels that may eventually cause her blisters. She stood in front of us, ignorant of the tension hanging thick in the air. "What are you both doing here? I have been searching the whole place for you two___the toast is about to start soon."

I blinked my eyes, trying to shake off whatever spell Ronnell had cast on me. "I was about to head back inside," I say with an unnatural smile.

Ella looks at both of us as her eyes tend to reveal her surprise. "You guys already met each other," she says. "I was actually planning on introducing you both." She turns her attention back to Ronnell. "I told you she was extraordinary. You should honestly consider her for your business. Trust me, I know exactly what I'm talking about."

I stared at Ella in confusion because I had no idea what she was talking about. Sure, I knew that I was at a loss for clients at the moment, but I never planned on disclosing that to him. And working for her brother had never been something I considered. Currently, my mind was swirling around something different that I wanted to do with Ronnell, and it had nothing to do with business.

I watched as Ella beams at both of us for the last time before heading back to the hall. Ronnell stood up and unexpectedly held out his hands to help me to my feet. I hesitated a bit before grabbing his hands.

"We better hurry back before Ella have our heads chopped off." He says softly. His grip lingered for a second too long, and I couldn't help it as I found myself hoping the night wouldn't end.

"Sure!" I responded, heart racing at the promise in his smile.

We soon rejoined the bubbly party, but this time around we were aware of each other in a way that made the noisy ballroom fade into the background. Ronnell guides me towards the bar area with a high table near the front. As the toast begin, he pulled out my chair like a perfect gentleman, and I sat. Happy to be away from the crowded table.

Throughout the speeches, I could feel the heat of his gaze on my face, they seemed wordless but intense.

As Ella and her fiance, Felix, share their first dance. Ronnell's hands unexpectedly reach for my hand on the table, and casually taps his fingers across my knuckles like we had known each other for a long time. A whizz trots up my whole body, causing me to suck some air in.

"Would you like to go somewhere less crowded?" He asked out of the blue. "uh__i'd love to know you more better." He says while his burning gaze leaves me with a slight option.

I stared at him unsure if I should take him on his offer. It was very unlike me to actually accept such an invitation from a man but he was Ella's brother. And it's not like he was a stranger, and Ella seemed genuinely happy that we had spoken to each other at the party, her approval was crystal clear.

And, I had to admit that the loud music and noise were a bit too much. Judging from the look on his face, it seemed like he also was fade up with it too.

"Fine__ we can do that!" I say. "What do you have in your mind?"

"What about a drink somewhere with softer music?" He asked keeping his eyes fixed on mine.

"Sure," I accept. "That would be better."

He nodded with a smile, taking my hands casually in his. He led me out of the loud ballroom and back into the hotel entrance, and we both let out a loud exhale together, leaving the noisy ballroom seemed like a relief to both of us.

"I don't want to prey but what did Ella mean when she said that you needed help for your business?" I questioned, thinking about her unexpected suggestion to have me work for him. I kept wondering what on earth I could be of use to him. "What kind of work are you into?"

He gave me a slight grin while he walked me to the bright hallway area, towards the small bar near the other entrance. A few of the hotel guests were spotted around sitting and sipping their alcohol.

Ronnell casually walks to the mahogany counter, gesturing to the barman. I watched as they had a brief exchange, and then Ronnell turned back to me. "I have a top security company___ it's actually top ranking right now. It is known globally. I'm looking to expand to Italy." He reaches for the liquor bottles and glasses that the barman hands him.

"Thank you, man." He says to the barman while he lifts his eyebrow flirtatiously at me. "Ready?"

He walked me towards the elevator, pressing the button to the top floor while I followed curiously. We wait in silence, tension thumping hard in my chest. "You have a room here?" I asked.

"Uh," he clutches my gaze in a very astonishing pause, while the elevator climbs up. My mind raced hard, imagining the thought of being alone with my best friend's brother, having all the privacy to do what I wanted to do to him.

The thrill excitement in every nerve in my body was tremendous as I anticipated letting my guard down and tossing away all rules of my dating etiquette out of the window tonight. All I knew was that I wanted to be alone with Ronnell, and he clearly has that same idea of me.

As the elevator kept climbing higher, he turned his body towards mine, spreading his stance wide as he closed in on me. I back against the wall, unable to avoid his intense posture, and my breath quickens. He holds his hands out on either side of me, trapping me inwardly.

He moves his face close to mine. "I have never asked a girl to my suite, are you comfortable coming up to my suite with me?" he whispers, his breath tickling my lips. "I might not be able to resist, and the view is amazing up there."

His choice of tone and words only made my pants more damper. The elevator chimes in and the elevator stops. "I would love to see how amazing the view looks," I say even though the view is the last thing that I care about seeing. Feeling the heat that radiated through his well-fitted designer suit.

I can hardly believe that I'm actually having all these illicit thoughts right now. I had convinced myself that my desire to be with a man had dried up after Smith hurt me, sleeping with his ex-girlfriend In my bed. But now, Ronnell woke up something inside me that I thought that I would never feel.

The door slid open and Ronnell gestured for me to follow him as he stepped out, leading me down the hall to his own suite. I held the glasses for him as he fumbled with his keys, I could hear him swear some words under his breath, and I just couldn't help but giggle a little at his longing.

The moment he got the door opened, he invited me in while switching on the light. I couldn't help myself as I felt astonished at the enormous and elegant space, the amazing view of the whole hotel from his suite was spectacular. He takes the glasses from my hands and places them on the side table with the bottle of liquor.

And without a word, he pins me against the wall, pressing his muscular frame on my body, allowing me to feel his strong build.

He lifted my chin, his face inches from my lip, and then he whispered. "You have no idea how much I have been wanting to kiss those lips badly." He locks my eyes with his, perhaps waiting for my permission.

Meanwhile, the whole muscles in my body had melted from the desperation in his gaze. And with the same level of desire rising within me. I moved my face closer, inviting him in. With a satisfied grin, he lowers his mouth to mine, hesitating a tiny distance from my lips, making me grow hungrier. And then he kisses me, strong and urgent, causing every nerve in my body to explode nicely.

It felt like weeks and months of longing between the two of us, unleashed in a single moment of connection. And I melt into him, fingers running through his shadow perm hair and around his neck.

He breaks away for a moment, gasping very hard. "Christ!" He breathes out heavily, eyes trailing along my body. "Who exactly are you? Why are you driving me this wild," he growls softly, trailing hot, open-mouthed kisses down along my throat. I gasp, tilting my head to give him better access.

"You have no idea how long I have longed for something like this." His voice is low and vulnerable, making me crave him even more, as he buries his face in my hair, inhaling me.

"I want you, Ronnell," I said shamelessly, desire burning through my veins, trailing my hands down his chest, feeling his muscles through my gown.

Without another word, he scoops me in his arms in a bridal way, carrying me to his bedroom. We fell on his king-size bed together, and he kneeled over me, unbuttoning his shirt without taking his green eyes off me.

As he throws his shirt to the floor, the sight of his bare chest makes me weak, all thoughts of any consequences flee my mind at that very point in time, replaced only by the need to be close to him as humanly possible.

As my gaze trails down his stomach, landing on his belt, he grins, reaching around my back, and pulling off the zipper of my dress. In seconds, our clothes were scattered on the floor, while he kissed me with hot desire.

At that instant, I cared about nothing because all I wanted was him.

Chapter 3 3

RONNELL POV

The sweet smell of Blair's Fragrance stays on my skin, a haunting remembrance of the intimacy we had shared. I closed my eyes to inhale deeply and moved back to the feel of her soft body huddled against mine but she was gone.

She had slipped out of the hotel suite earlier that morning, gathered her things, leaving a sweet and tempting kiss on my lips that only tended to tease me every now and then. The memory elicited an unfamiliar ache in my chest.

Fuck_ I just can't afford to feel this way about her or any woman.

With a frustrated sigh escaping my lips, I slipped out of bed and dragged myself into the bathroom. The cold floor offers a sharp contrast to the warmth I felt on the bed, a welcome distraction as I turned on the shower and stepped under the spray.

The water washes away the evidence of our night together, but it also does nothing to ease the deep turmoil in my mind. I shouldn't have given in to the attraction between us. I should have known better but when she looked up at me with those bright brown eyes and round pouty lips, her curves were practically tempting every part of me, I have never felt so attracted to any woman as I was to her yesterday.

All rational thought left. I was powerless and just couldn't resist the pull.

Now, I knew that I had to face the consequences. I knew I would see her again because Ella already made it known to me through a text message, and there was no avoiding the tension that would surely be hanging thick in the air because of what transpired between Blair and me.

I knew that we only just wanted to enjoy the moment but I just couldn't forget her soft moans and the feel of her nails digging into my back while she begged for me to F__k her even more. It would surely be hard to treat her as a business associate. How did I even let this happen? I had sworn not to get myself entangled with any woman, my heart had already been ripped off enough.

The dark side that lives inside me is too dangerous to expose to anybody but one unforgettable night with Blair and all those shields came crumbling down, leaving me totally vulnerable.

The hot water from the shower began to run cold, dragging me from my own thoughts. I turned it off and stepped out while grabbing a towel to dry off my wet body. There was no going back right now, I would just have to find a way to bury my feelings when we were together and avoid on acting on the slight attraction that meant nothing.

It's the only way to keep her safe, even if it means denying myself. Even though the one thing I crave the most right now was. Her.

As I walked into my company building. I walked into the gym area to change into my outfit, few of my employees were in the gym already. They were practicing keenly and their grunts filled the entire air. This was my world as the CEO of Ronnel Roman Security Ltd.

I had kept focus on expanding my business and adding additional employers to my company. I just need some few help with closing the deals that will launch my business to the next level, straight out to the top global spotlight.

"Ronnell!" Ella's voice breaks through the noise in the gym, and I turn to see her waving at me with Blair by her side.

Blair looks like a breath of fresh air, stopping my heart momentarily, her choice of outfitting cascading over her alluring body. Her long hair was tied back with loose trends teasing her shoulders. Flashes of our incredible night together pass through my mind, creating a renewed desire to have her beneath me again. But I quickly veer my feelings towards the professional realm, suppressing any fanciful excitement.

"Hey, Emmanuella?" I greet, trying to keep my gaze steady and my voice as casual as possible. Although Blair had an effect on me. "Good to see you again, Blair." I glimpsed in her direction.

"I figured that I was too busy yesterday that I hadn't properly introduced you both to each other!" Ella says with a grin while nudging Blair for a remark, clueless about how much we got to know each other last night. "You know what__ I was so glad that you two got to meet at the engagement party."

Blair shoots Ella a playful glare before turning to me with a charming smile that got my heart racing. "Nice to see you again, Ronnell," she says with a slight smirk.

"Ronnell," Ella interjected, pulling my attention back to her. "I wanted you guys to really have the chance to talk about business. I have known Blair for a long time now and she is the perfect match to help you with your expansion. She is an amazing person that I trust to bring in a top mastery for your business."

"Oh__really?" I asked folding my hands while I tried to hide the uncertainty in my voice. I knew that I couldn't deny my attraction to Blair, but I couldn't imagine this delicate, sensual woman going around working in my security firm with hardened men.

"C'mon Ronnell, you have got to trust." Ella insists. "Blair here is more than capable to run this business. Why don't you give her a chance, and if she ain't what you want, then you can let her go."

"Ella is right, why don't you give me a shot and if you think am not still good enough for you__ I would gladly leave." Blair chimes in, her eyes meeting mine with so much confidence that surprises and intrigues me at the same time. "I'm good at what I do, and I take my work seriously___i think I could help you out with what you want." Her eyes narrow slightly, perhaps noticing my space.

As much as I wanted to believe her, I just couldn't shake off the feeling of mixing business with pleasure because it might end badly for both of us. I looked around trying to stop myself from accepting this offer because my PTSD is easily triggered these days, and I need to be careful about who I let into my life.

"Please, Ronnell," Ella begs further. "You have to please accept her, allow someone to help you this once. You can't always do it alone, and I promise you that you won't regret your choice." she stares at me, knowing how stubborn I can be, and keenly aware of my cold heart due to the trauma I had faced.

But she's right. If I wanted my company to get to the global spotlight like I wanted, I needed an expert that I could perhaps trust. I had always trusted Ella to give me good decisions and recommending someone to me would only save me from the stress of interviewing anybody. "Why don't we discuss more details!" I finally agree, still resistant but willing to at least give Blair a chance. "To see if you're indeed good and fit for this business."

"Sure__anything you want." Blair nods, her eyes grow as she feels my cold gaze on her. Beneath her agreement to further our discussions, I could see that she was hurt by my distrust and space. Despite the intimacy we shared, I knew that I had to box all that away. It was just a one-night stand that should mean nothing, and I was determined to keep things professional between us at this point. And if that means treating her skeptically and blandly. Then that's how it going to be.

Ella grabs hold of Blair's arm and does a small dance. Their close, and playful relationship was evident, and I can't help but feel a twinge of envy. "This is just perfect and we should celebrate this!" She gushes happily.

"Come on, Blair," she encourages her, giving her hands a squeeze. "Why don't you tell Ronnell that time you negotiated that massive deal for Hikvisiion and Dahua security?"

My eyes widen. "You mean...?" I stare at Ella, understanding now why she thought the collaboration would be good for my own company.

"She is exactly what you need, Ronnell." She continues. "And, Blair, you could use this as a cool-off from Smith bullshit."

"Ella!" Blair barks, embarrassment written all over her face.

"Sorry," Ella murmured sheepishly, finally releasing Blair from the embrace. "I know that I might be crossing the limit but it's the truth. You deserve better___you need to move on, and this job is just the perfect one."

I throw my hands. "Okay. I think we are done here." I turn my attention to the group of employees. The smell of their sweat aggressively filled the entire area. "We have a meeting, soon. Freshen up, everyone!" I announced.

I glanced back at Blair, she may be beautiful and passionate but I need someone who can deliver good results for my company. And I have to keep reminding myself--business first.
