Chapter 1
ALLYSIAH'S POV
Good morning, I'm Allysiah Quin De Villa, 17 years old this year. I grew up in the province of La Union, in the municipality of Rosario. I was raised in hardship because my parents are farmers.
To lift them out of poverty, I focused on my studies because that's the only way I can repay them.
This year, I'm heading to college. It may seem odd at my age, but I started school early, so at 17, I'm already going to college.
Since the course I want isn't available in our province, I decided to study in the city.
To lessen the financial burden on my parents, I took an entrance exam for a scholarship at Styles University. Fortunately, I passed.
However, I haven't told my parents yet because I wanted to be sure I passed the scholarship exam first.
When my parents arrived home from the farm, I greeted them immediately and took their hand for a blessing.
"Mano po, Tay. Mano po, Nay," I said.
"Is your sister home yet?" my mom asked.
"She's staying at her classmate's house tonight to work on a project," I answered.
"I see," my mom replied.
After that, they went inside, and I prepared our dinner since it was already getting dark when they arrived.
"Nay, Tay, let's eat," I called out.
Since I'm the one left at home, I handle the cleaning and cooking.
Once they sat down, we started eating. While we were eating, I brought up the topic of my plans to study in the city.
"Nay, Tay, I have something to tell you," I said.
"What is it?" my mom asked.
"Well, you know that I've been planning to study in the city for college, right?" I started.
They both looked at each other.
"Yes," my mom said.
"Well, I passed a scholarship at a university there, so I don't want to miss the opportunity," I explained.
"Really, dear? You passed?" my dad asked.
"Yes, I did," I said.
"That's wonderful, you're really smart!" my dad exclaimed.
"I'm happy too, dear, but are you sure about this?" my mom asked.
"Yes, I'm sure," I replied.
"But you know there are many crimes in the city, right? It's not that I don't want you to go, but I'm worried, especially since you'll be on your own," my mom said.
"Nay, Tay, I'll be fine. The university has dorms, and it's safe there. The dorm and meals are free, and the school has strict rules, so it's safe," I reassured them.
When I passed, I researched the school, and I'm confident that I'll be safe there since everything is free for scholars.
They only accept three scholars per year, and the treatment in the dorms is equal-whether you're rich or poor, everyone gets the same amenities.
"That's good to hear," my dad said.
"I feel more at ease now after hearing that," my mom added.
"Alright then, let's eat," I said.
We continued eating until we were done. I washed the dishes since my parents were tired and needed to bathe. I didn't have anything else to do, so I took care of it.
I have a younger sister who wanted to help me, but I didn't let her since her classmate had called earlier, and they were working on a project.
The next day, I woke up early to prepare breakfast since my parents had to leave again.
After cooking, I set the food on the table and made myself some coffee. I stepped outside to enjoy the view of the sunrise.
A few minutes later, I went back inside just as my parents woke up. We sat down and ate breakfast together.
Afterward, my parents prepared to leave for the farm, and once again, I was left alone at home.
While passing the time under the shade of the mango tree, I suddenly got a phone call. When I checked, it was from an unknown number, but I answered it anyway.
"Hello," I said.
"Hello, ma'am, good morning. Is this Allysiah Quin De Villa?" the person on the other line asked.
"Yes, it's me. May I ask what this is about?" I replied.
"I just wanted to inform you that classes at Styles University will begin in three weeks, and you should be at the school dorm before the semester starts. Any questions, ma'am?" the person asked.
"Where can I ask for help once I arrive? It's my first time entering Styles University," I said.
"You can ask the campus guard, and they can assist you. It's part of their job to help new students," the person explained.
"Alright, thank you, ma'am," I said.
"Okay, bye," she said.
I hung up and thought to myself, "Only three weeks left before classes start."
I should probably inform my parents so they know that I'll be leaving earlier than expected.
In the afternoon, I busied myself with house chores, and when it got dark, my sister and parents came home.
As usual, I greeted them and served dinner on the table so we could eat.
"Nay, Tay, it's only three weeks until classes start," I said.
"When are you leaving?" my mom asked.
"Probably Friday, before the three weeks are up," I answered.
"I see, we'll try to give you some money," my dad said.
"Ate, you're not studying here?" my sister Allyson asked.
"No," I replied.
"Hmmm," she simply said.
"Don't worry, I'll call you," I assured her.
"Still," Allyson pouted.
"It's necessary, you know? It would be a waste if I didn't take the scholarship," I explained.
She's only 11 years old, so it's understandable that she'd feel sad since we're quite close.
When we finished eating, Allyson offered to do the dishes. She helps me with house chores because our parents leave early and come home late.
Even though I'll be leaving, there will still be someone to help my parents. It's sad, but I know I can do it.
This is all for my family's future, so nothing will be too hard for me. Haha. Since she's washing the dishes, I decided to step outside and get some fresh air. My parents were already resting.
After a few minutes, Allyson came out and sat with me.
"Ate, are you really sure about this?" she asked.
"Yes, I am," I replied.
"But Ate, you might get bullied there, especially since you're a nerd," she said.
"You've been reading too much Wattpad, Allyson," I chuckled.
"Ate, come on. Bullying is common in the city," she insisted.
"Don't worry, I can take care of myself," I said.
"Hmmm, just don't let anyone push you around, okay? Even if you're a nerd, you're still pretty. It's just those glasses that make you look nerdy," she said.
"Of course. We're beautiful, so we shouldn't let anyone treat us badly," I said with a smile.
I hugged her, and we decided to go to bed since it was already late.
Many weeks have passed, and today is the day I leave our province. I'm currently at the bus station heading to Tarlac, where I will catch another bus to Manila.
My parents came with me, and I already feel sad. But my sibling is still there, and I spoke to them last night.
While waiting for my bus, I said my goodbyes and hugged them tightly.
When the bus arrived, I got on and didn't look back because I knew it would only make me miss them more.
As the bus started moving, tears welled up in my eyes, and I quickly wiped them away before sitting properly.
After a few hours, we arrived in Tarlac. I searched for the terminal to catch the bus to Manila.
Once I found it, I boarded the bus and updated my parents. Then, I decided to take a nap.
After a few more hours, I finally arrived in Manila. I asked around for directions to Styles University since that's where my dorm is. The person who called me earlier said I should head straight there. After getting the directions I needed, I took a jeepney.
In just a few minutes, I arrived at the school where I'll be studying. Once I got off the jeepney, I approached the guard.
"Excuse me, sir, I'm new here. Can you tell me where the dorm is?" I asked.
"Let me show you, ma'am," the guard replied.
"Thank you," I said.
We started walking, and I followed him. As we walked, I glanced around the school and thought to myself, it really is beautiful here.
"We're here, ma'am. Just approach that lady over there, and she'll give you the key to your dorm," the guard said.
"Okay, thank you very much," I replied gratefully.
I walked over to the lady and introduced myself as a new student.
"What's your name?" she asked.
"Allysiah Quin De Villa," I answered.
"Just a moment," she said.
After waiting for a few minutes, she finally handed me the key.
"You're in dorm number 20. Here's your key," she said.
"Thank you," I said.
"When you open your dorm, you'll see the dorm rules posted inside, along with your schedule. As for your uniform, it might arrive next week," she explained.
"Alright, thanks again," I said.
I then headed off to find my dorm. When I reached the second floor, I found it, unlocked the door, and went inside.
I was eager to rest, so I organized my belongings. I figured I'd read the dorm rules later.
Since I was alone, I called my parents to let them know I had arrived.
"Hello, Allysiah," my mom answered.
"Hi, Mom. I've arrived at my dorm," I said.
"That's good to hear. Have you eaten yet?" she asked.
"Yes, I have," I replied.
"Good. Alright, get some rest now," she said.
"Okay, bye," I said.
I ended the call. I had already finished organizing since I didn't bring much.
After changing clothes, I decided to lie down and take a nap.

Chapter 2
Kairus' POV
I'm lying in bed at home, playing COD, when my mother walks in.
"You're playing again, son," she says.
"Yeah," I reply.
"Please, son, go outside and bond with your friends," she urges.
"Nah, I don't want to go outside, Mom. Unless it's to fight," I say.
"Fight, fight, fight. Always fighting on your mind," she scolds.
"Can you please stop being a bad boy, son?" she continues.
"Mom, I can't, and I like what I do," I say.
"You know that's bad, right? And you also know that you have a psych-" I cut her off.
"Yeah, Mom, I know I have a problem with my brain, that I'm a psychopath. But Mom, you know I'm not psycho without a reason," I say.
Yeah, maybe I'm a psycho, but I have my reasons. And now I don't have any reason to be a psychopath. That's why I still go to my psychiatrist.
"Don't worry, Mom, I'm not going to kill my enemies. And I'm okay now, that's why I keep seeing my psychiatrist, just like you wanted," I tell her.
"Yeah, but son, I'm just scared you might go back to your old self," she says.
"Don't worry, Mom, I can handle myself," I assure her.
"Hmm, okay," she says.
She leaves the room, and I start remembering what happened to me when I was younger.
Flashback
When I was 10 years old, I was kidnapped. I was scared, but something unexpected happened. When I woke up, I was in the hospital, and my mother was beside me.
When she saw me awake, she cried and asked if I was okay, if I was hurt. But I didn't say a word.
I was trying to remember what happened to me. I was curious about how I got there. The last thing I remembered was being in an unfamiliar place.
I saw men in black, and I assumed the man in the center was their boss. But then something happened.
I fought them off, even at my young age. I don't know how, but I fought them without fear.
It felt like I became a different person. After the fight, I won. Then my father came to save me, but all the men who kidnapped me were lying on the ground.
I saw the look on my father's face-he was shocked by what he saw. Then everything went black. Now I know what happened that night, but I want to ask my mom if she'll tell me the truth.
"Mom, what happened?" I ask.
"Son, please, just rest for now," she replies.
"I want to know what happened," I insist.
But the door opens, and my father enters.
"You killed all the kidnappers," my dad says.
"Oh, okay," I reply.
"That's your reaction?" he asks, surprised.
"Why? What should my reaction be?" I ask.
"Son, you were just 10 years old, and you already killed," my mom says.
"Yeah, but I don't know what happened to me. I don't know how I managed to kill," I say.
"Maybe he wasn't completely stable that night," my dad says.
"What do you mean, Dad? That I'm crazy?" I ask.
"Kind of, but I think you weren't in your right mind when you killed. So, it's better for you to see a psychiatrist," he explains.
"Dad, I'm not crazy," I protest.
"Yeah, but we need to make sure. You're too young to have killed. I don't want you to end up like me," he says.
"But Dad-"
"No buts, son," he insists.
"Kairus, please listen to your father," my mom says.
I can see how worried she is, so I don't argue anymore.
"Okay," I say.
My mom hugs me tightly.
I was so deep in thought that I didn't realize I had lost the game I was playing, which pissed me off.
When I looked outside, it was already getting dark, so I headed downstairs, thinking it was time to eat. When I got there, my friends were lounging on the sofa.
"Hey, good to see you finally came down," Hendrix says.
"I thought you were just going to lock yourself up," Ark Zach adds.
"Welcome back," Xian Reiv teases.
"Feel at home," Yael Ken jokes.
The others burst into laughter at what Reiv and Ken were saying.
"Tsk, this is our house. What are you talking about, 'feel at home' and 'welcome back'?" I say.
"You guys are crazy," Xiandrea says.
"They're escapees from a mental hospital," Ate Faith jokes.
"Should we take them back to the asylum?" Ate Kiana Leigh adds.
"Tsk, why are you all even here, you old folks?" Yael asks.
"Old? What do you mean old, Yael Ken?" Sister Kiana retorts.
Ugh, it's so noisy again. Whenever we're all here, it's always loud, which is why I prefer locking myself in my room-no one bothers me there except Mom.
Hendrix, Reiv, and I are only two years younger than Sister Faith and Sister Xiandrea, while Sister Kiana is just a year older.
Ate Faith was born in November, Ate Xiandrea in September, and Ate Kiana in January, so they're close in age. But we still call them "Ate" out of respect.
"The dinner is ready!" Mom shouts.
We all head to the dining table and sit down. Even Tito and Tita are here, along with all their kids.
As we start eating, I stay quiet while the others continue to chatter away.
Then Aunt and Mom start talking about the upcoming school year.
"By the way, school starts on Monday. Have you all prepared what you need?" Mom asks.
The guys and I stay silent. We're troublemakers at school, so Hendrix, Reiv, and I are still stuck in our first year of college, and we seem to have influenced Ark as well. The five of us are in the same grade, except for Yael, who's just starting his first year.
"Please, you five," Mom points at us. "Please take this seriously. You've already wasted enough years," she says.
I don't say anything. Whether I finish this year or not depends on my mood, tsk. After I finish eating, I head back to my room.
Before I could go, though, Mom calls me.
"I'm done. I'm heading to my room," I say.
"Wait, before you go to your room, check your dad's office for the list of new scholarship holders for this year. Read through it since you're the SSG President," Mom reminds me.
I nod and leave the dining room. As Mom said, I go to Dad's office, find the list, and take it to my room. But I don't feel like reading it right now. I'm too lazy.
Instead, I take a shower, then decide to play some games before going to bed. I'm sure my friends will sleep over here tonight, so we'll hang out tomorrow.
I play for a few hours until there's a knock on my door. It's Yael, Reiv, Hendrix, and Ark.
"What?" I say coldly.
"Let's go to the club," Yael says.
"You guys go," I reply.
I'm about to close the door, but Reiv stops it.
"Come on, bro, come with us," Reiv urges.
"No, I'm not in the mood. Maybe tomorrow," I say.
"Tomorrow? You're serious, right?" Yael asks.
"Yeah," I reply.
They leave, and I close the door. Tsk, I thought it would be harder to get rid of them, but apparently not
The next day, I woke up at around eight in the morning, so I got up and took a shower before going downstairs.
As soon as I went down, I was greeted by noise-ugh, as usual. When I approached them, I just sat on the sofa.
"Manang, make me some coffee," I said.
The helper quickly moved, while the noise around me continued.
"Good morning, Kuya," Keighley greeted.
"Good morning, too," I replied to my sister.
She sat beside me, and I continued reading the magazine.
"What are you reading, Kuya?" Keighley asked.
"Magazine," I said.
Soon, my coffee arrived.
"Please bring her some milk too, Manang," I requested.
"Yes, sir," she replied.
I was surprised when my sister suddenly hugged me, which caught my attention.
"Hmm, why are you being sweet to me now?" I asked.
"Nothing, I just wanted to hug you," she said.
I patted her head and went back to reading. But after a few moments, the others arrived, and the noise level increased again.
"Good morning, people!" Yael Ken greeted.
"It's not a good morning when you're the first one I see," Ate Kiana replied.
"Ugh, old lady," Yael teased his sister.
"What did you say?" Ate Kiana shot back.
Their parents, my aunt and uncle, arrived soon after. As usual, they were chatting again, and I got bored, so I decided to go outside.
FAST FORWARD
That night, I had just finished showering when someone knocked on my door. I opened it and saw my friends.
"Let's go," Ark said.
"You promised we're going out tonight," Yael reminded.
"Yeah, I know, but let me wear something first. As you can see, I'm not wearing anything-unless you all want me to go to the club like this," I said sarcastically.
"Hmm, that's fine by me," Yael joked.
I gave him a sharp look and slammed the door shut. I heard them laughing outside-ugh.
So, to avoid them rushing me, I changed quickly, grabbed my car keys, and went downstairs.
I saw them waiting in the living room, while our parents were outside drinking.
When they saw me come out, they followed. But before I could get into my car, Mom asked me a question.
"Where are you going?" she asked.
"We're going to the club," I replied.
"You better not start a fight again," Aunt Mika warned.
"No, Auntie. Unless someone starts with us first," I said.
"Kairus Jei!" my mom said in a warning tone.
I know that look, so I need to leave immediately before they change their minds and stop us from going.
"Okay, Mom. Aunties, goodbye," I said quickly.
Meanwhile, the four of them had already left-ugh, they didn't even wait for me. Well, I guess they're scared of the moms too.
Just like me, I'm afraid of my mom. But when it comes to something I want, I won't back down. Because for me, I always get what I want.
As soon as I got into my car, I drove off quickly. When I arrived at the club where we planned to spend the night, I went straight inside.
Upon entering, I immediately saw the girls dancing on stage, barely wearing anything-tsk.
I walked straight to the VIP room where my friends were. When I opened the door, I saw them with the sl*tty girls from this godforsaken club.
I sat on the sofa and drank my wine. I don't care about the girls. All I want is to relax tonight because classes start on Monday.

Chapter 3
ALLYSIAH'S POV
Monday came, and I got ready for school. Over the past two days since I arrived here, things have been going well, more or less.
Our breakfast is free, but we have to pay for dinner ourselves. That's not too bad since I plan to look for a part-time job if there's any available.
Earlier, before going to class, I asked the elderly woman if there were any job openings at the school because my classes are only half-day.
On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, my classes are in the morning, and I'm free in the afternoon. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, it's the other way around, with classes in the afternoon and free mornings.
So I have a lot of free time, which is why I decided to ask if there are any jobs. It would be a waste to spend half the day doing nothing, right?
Thankfully, there's an opening, but it's for an assistant librarian. If they're okay with me working part-time, that would be perfect.
Since I was early, I decided to stop by the library and inquire with the librarian. To get there, I gathered the courage to ask for directions.
Luckily, the person I asked was kind, so I quickly found my way to the library.
I walked in and went to the librarian's desk. She seemed to be older, so maybe that's why she's looking for help.
"Good morning, I heard you're looking for someone to assist here," I said.
"Yes, dear, why do you ask?" the librarian replied.
"I was hoping to apply if that's okay, as my classes are only half-day," I explained.
"That's fine, dear, but which days are your half-day classes?" she asked.
"My classes are in the morning on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and in the afternoon on Tuesdays and Thursdays," I clarified.
"That's alright, dear, but I can only pay you half the salary," she said.
"That's fine with me. As long as I have a job, how much is the pay?" I asked.
"Since the library is big, a full day's pay is 1,000 pesos, but since you'll only be working half-day, you'll get 500 pesos a day," she explained.
Five hundred pesos for half a day isn't bad. I think I can manage, and it's better than constantly relying on my parents.
"What time does the work start?" I asked.
"For morning shifts, it's from 7 AM to 12 PM, and for the afternoon, it's from 1 PM to 6 PM. Does that work for you?" she asked.
"Yes, that works for me. When can I start?" I asked.
"If you want, you can start today, so I have someone to help since a lot of students, especially the scholars, come here," she offered.
"That's fine with me," I said.
"By the way, dear, why do you need a job?" she asked.
"I'm also a scholar, and I don't want to keep depending on my parents since we're not well-off," I explained.
"I see, you're such a good child. Your parents must be proud of you," she said.
"I hope so," I replied.
"Oh, right, you have class today. It's Monday, and the SSG President is strict with the scholars when it comes to being on time," she reminded me.
"Thank you, I'll go now. I'll see you later, Nanay Linda," I said.
"Alright, see you later. Oh, what's your name?" she asked.
"I'm Allysiah," I replied. "See you later, Nanay Linda."
I then left and looked for my classroom. Turns out, I'm in Room 1-A. Since I'm not yet familiar with this school, I had to ask for directions again.
"Sis, where's Room 1-A?" I asked someone.
She pointed it out to me, so I followed her directions. It wasn't far from the library, so that's convenient.
When I entered the room, I noticed that my classmates' attention was on me. I felt shy, so I kept my head down and found a vacant seat at the back.
After waiting for a few moments, I overheard some of my classmates gossiping about me.
"I'm sure she's a scholar," said Girl 1.
"Ugh, why do they let poor people in here?" said Girl 2.
"Like, duh, look at her fashion. It's so eww," said Girl 3.
I looked at myself. I was wearing simple high-waist jeans, a white t-shirt, and white Nike shoes. I also had a shoulder bag that wasn't exactly stylish, but I was comfortable.
"Seriously? She's so ugly, and look at her glasses. They're so cheap," Girl 2 added.
Their words hurt, and I knew they were saying it on purpose since they were speaking louder now.
Instead of letting it get to me, I chose to ignore them. Moments later, five guys entered the room, and the girls started whispering again.
"Oh my gosh, my husband Hendrix is here," said Girl 1.
"My Ken and Reiv, oh my!" said Girl 2.
"Ark and Kairus are so handsome," said Girl 3.
They sat in front of me, while some sat in the same row. I was in the fifth row, which had five seats. Three of the guys sat in the fourth row, and two sat in the fifth row, with two seats between me and the guy who had a scary aura.
I didn't dare to look at them, especially the guy with the intimidating presence. A few moments later, our professor arrived, and it seemed like we were going to do introductions.
The professor started with the first row, then moved on to the fourth row where the five guys were seated. They introduced themselves one by one.
"I'm Yael Ken Thompson, 17 years old. Nice to meet you all," he said with a wink.
"I'm Xian Reiv Smith, 21 years old. Nice to meet you all," he said with a big smile.
These two seemed like typical playboys.
"I'm Hendrix Clarkson, 21," he said, sounding disinterested.
"Ark Zach Peterson, 29," said the guy sitting next to the one with the scary aura, smiling.
"Kairus Jei Styles, 21," said the guy with the scary aura, coldly. So, his name is Kairus.
These three didn't say much, which made them seem even more intimidating. When it was my turn, I stood up. No one seemed interested, but the five of them were listening.
"I'm Allysiah Quin De Villa, 17 years old," I said, then quickly sat down.
Class started, and while the five of them didn't seem to be paying attention, I focused on the lesson. I didn't want to fall behind, so I listened carefully. Even though only a few were paying attention, the professor continued teaching, and I couldn't afford to be like these rich kids.
An hour passed, and it was time for the next subject, so I took out my notebook. I noticed that Kairus and his group were already sleeping. They really don't seem interested in being serious, I thought to myself.
I quickly looked away when Kairus suddenly opened his eyes. I felt a jolt of fear. Did he catch me staring at him? Oh no.
I prayed he didn't notice. Thankfully, the next subject started, and I sighed in relief.
When the lesson ended, some of our classmates left since it was recess. We wouldn't be back until 11 AM.
Since I didn't plan on having a snack, I stayed in the room to study.
I opened my book for the next subject and started reading. Even though I knew someone was watching me, I tried to ignore it because it was Kairus, and he scared me.
I tried my best to shake off the fear and focus on my reading, but then he suddenly spoke to me.
"Why were you staring at me?" he asked.
"So-sorry," I stammered.
"Haha, maybe she thinks you're handsome, Kai," Yael teased.
I reacted to what Yael said, but I think I made a mistake. I wish I hadn't reacted at all. ahh!" I reacted.
"Haha, you're not handsome, Kai!" Yael teased again.
"Shut up," Kairus said.
He gave me a sharp look, and I quickly averted my gaze. I really couldn't handle the way he stared at me.
I was startled when he approached me, making me step back until my back hit the wall.
"If I were you, I would keep my mouth shut because I'm different when I'm angry," he said.
I could only nod in fear. Besides, he was the owner's son, so crossing him would be risky.
"S-sorry," I said softly.
He only walked away when his friend called him. But I thought he would follow them-he didn't.
"Let's go, Kai. I'm hungry," said Reiv.
"Yeah, let's head to the canteen," Yael added.
"I'm hungry too," Hendrix said.
"Me too," Ark agreed.
"I'm not hungry. You guys can go," Kairus said.
"You're not coming?" Yael asked.
"Yeah, I want to sleep," Kairus replied.
"Okay," Ark said.
The four of them left while Kairus went back to his seat and fell asleep. I took a deep breath and returned my attention to my reading.
After an hour, our classmates slowly started coming back. When they saw Kairus was asleep, they made sure to keep quiet.
Soon, his friends came back along with our next teacher. But the teacher didn't mind Kairus sleeping and proceeded with the lesson.
At least I was able to follow along since I had read the material earlier, so it was easier for me.
Another hour passed, and the class ended, so I started packing my things. But when I looked at my path, Kairus' arm was blocking the way.
I thought about what to do. If I passed by, I would have to wake him up.
If I moved the chair back to squeeze through, it would make noise and might wake him up.
Ugh, what should I do? I still need to go to the library. I still have time; it's only 1 PM, but I need to eat first.
What if I eat here instead? I thought to myself. Maybe Kairus would wake up after I finished my lunch.
So, I ate there. In just a few minutes, I was done and ready to rest, but I noticed Kairus was already waking up.
I quickly took the chance to pass by, and luckily, I succeeded. I hurried to the library.
When I arrived, I was greeted by Nanay Linda, so I greeted her back and asked if she had eaten lunch.
"Have you had lunch, Nay?" I asked.
"I'm about to, dear. You're in charge here," she said.
"Yes, Nay," I replied.
"Okay, I'll head out now," Nanay Linda said.
"Take care," I responded.
