Chapter 1 One

Sitting in a corner at the end of the pub, Ethan Sawyer looked behind him. A bar girl was being harassed by a middle-aged man and his friend.

"How about a night with me? I'm going to take good care of you baby girl" the first man said and ran his fingers over her exposed lap. She was putting on a mini-skirt, which was exposing her lap. The girl slapped his hand away from her lap.

"How dare you?" The man's friend shouted, but the girl remained silent. "How dare you slap my friend's hands, you ugly girl?" he asked.

"What is happening here?" Her boss asked as he approached them.

"Mark" the first man called in an angry tone. "Your staff are being disrespectful these days. How can a little girl like her slap my hands away from her lap, all because I was trying to ask her for a night! ' He said with a frown on his face. Mark, the owner of the pub and also the girl's boss, glared at her, eyeing her scornfully

Oh god, can't I have just one peaceful night?

Leah thought, taking a deep breath

She barely suppressed a shiver as she looked down at the ground

"Is that true, Leah?" Mark asked as he stared at the girl, who looked up at him through her lashes with tears forming in her eyes.

"Yes sir" she replied shivering, feeling scared of what her boss might do to her.

"Go down on your knees" Mark ordered, but she remained standing and wouldn't do as she was told, this made Mark burn with anger making him slap her hard on her cheek.

"She's possessed," Edmond replied with an annoying look.

"Get on your knees, you disrespectful girl!' Mark shouted again, but she wouldn't kneel, and then he slapped her once more.

"I won't kneel!'' she cried out. "I won't!"

"You dare go against me?!" Mark asked with wide eyes and was about to give her the beating of her life when he heard a cold voice. A voice that made people tremble in fear when they heard it, a voice that nobody dared to go against. This voice was what stopped Mark from venting out his anger on the girl.

"How about we end things on a light note today, huh?'' Ethan warned, causing an uproar in the pub. Most people who knew Ethan for a long time were sure he hardly said anything to anyone not to talk of defending a girl.

"I respect you, Mr. Sawyer," Mark said and bowed a little. "But this bitch had it coming for a while now" He added and was about to slap Leah again when Ethan's voice stopped him once more.

"You would dare?" Ethan asked, with a look of amusement and just the slightest hint of excitement. The people at the pub were once again surprised because of his warning. Just what was the great Ethan Sawyer trying to do? Why was he defending a mere barmaid? Different questions ran through different minds. Ethan stood up from his seat and approached Leah and Mark, with his men behind him.

"Mr. Sawyer?' Mark looked perplexed because this was the first time Ethan had ever defended anyone. Even if he wanted to defend somebody, must it be a barmaid? A mere barmaid.

"You want to go against me?" Ethan asked, his voice sending chills down Mark's spine.

"Me? Go against you? I would never, Mr. Sawyer! I would never go against your word" Mark asked and laughed a dry laugh. He caught sight of Ethan looking at Leah, and an idea came into his mind. "Do you want her, Mr. Saw..."

"How much will you sell her to me?" Ethan asked and scanned Leah from her head to her toe. His question once again brought an uproar in the pub.

He watched as some people turned their heads away, while others openly stared with open mouths or even had a look of disbelief on their faces. They didn't know whether they should believe him. After all, who doesn't know Ethan the cold Mafia Lord? But they also knew that if Ethan wanted a piece of the girl, he would do whatever it takes to get it. And so everyone else simply kept quiet and listened in on the conversation.

Leah was standing right there, she was too beautiful, too pure, too innocent. Ethan's eyes lingered over her long, slender body. She had no makeup on but still looked stunning, which only made her more enticing. The girl tied her hair back into two loose braids that rested on her shoulders. She wasn't wearing make up either, just simple mascara and lip gloss.

Her skin was flawless, smooth, and soft. It didn't matter how many times you saw her, you couldn't find even the faintest hint of imperfection. No acne scars or bruises, not even freckles. There were no blemishes at all. Even though the bar was packed with other customers, not one of them seemed to mind when he ogled her. In fact, they were quite pleased that his attention was on someone else.

"What makes you think I'll sell her to you?" her boss asked, making Ethan's smile widen. He leaned over to Mark and whispered.

"Come on, man, now you're just pushing it. See Jerome over there?" he asked and gestured over to one of the guys behind him. Mark looked over and gulped. The man named Jerome looked like he'd been born with a dumbbell in hand and Mark didn't feel Leah was worth the trouble.

"Just name your price," he added. Mark smiled dryly when he heard Ethan asking him to name his price.

"Nonsense, Mr. Sawyer," Mark replied with a laugh. "You were gracious enough to um... Grace us with your presence, so there's no need to, um... Pay anything" Mark swallowed hard at that last sentence. Just the thought of giving anything away for free irked him to the bones, but he'd actually seen what Ethan was capable of and if he was pissed off, the monster named Jerome would be the least of his problems.

"No, I insist, unless you think I won't be able to afford it"

"We- well... I- if you insist, she was given to me for 5000 dollars, so..."

"Of course" Ethan said with a smile and whispered over to one of his boys.

Chapter 2 Two

The bodyguard Ethan talked to nodded and moved swiftly, out of the building with posture and grace befitting an employee of Ethan Sawyer.

At this point, there were murmurs all around the bar. While some people were amazed that someone as proud as Mark was reduced to a jittery mess, others felt he deserved it. Either way, Mark noticed the atmosphere in the bar and decided to avoid further embarrassment.

"Alright, everyone leave. We're closing". He announced as he shooed everyone out.

"You two should stay," Ethan said, pointing over at Edmond and his friend

Too scared to speak, they just nodded and sat down at a table

"You just had to piss off Ethan Sawyer of all the fucking monsters in the world, huh, Eddie?" Edmond's friend whispered over to him.

"Shut the fuck up, Reggie. Who's bright idea was it to come here anyway, huh?

Soon enough, the bodyguard was back with a briefcase and the transaction proceeded smoothly

Leah just watched as the scene unfolded before her. While being sold off was nothing new to her, she was amazed at the dominance Ethan exuded. It was almost as if the world were made for him. But of course, just like many before him, there'd always be someone more powerful, except-

"Alright sweet cheeks, time to go"

Leah was snapped out of her reverie as she stared blankly at the bodyguard who'd spoken to her. She'd been close enough to overhear that his name was Jerome. But she couldn't just leave, not after all the memories she'd made here.

"Um... Mr. Sawyer?"

Ethan turned as he heard his name roll off her tongue. He simply cocked his eyebrow as if amazed by her audacity.

Everybody paused as they waited to see Ethan's reaction. He simply smiled and asked, "Problem?"

"It's just I've made so many memories here. Can I say goodbye to Mark?" She said, emphasizing his name.

Mark had always told her to never call his name and always respond with sir whenever he spoke to her, so this came as a shock to him. Mark gritted his teeth as he began to mull over just how much humiliation he'd suffered today.

Ethan nodded at her request, as he was curious as to why anyone in their right senses would miss being a slave for Mark.

Leah walked up to Mark and with blinding speed kneed him right in the balls.

"Who's kneeling now, bitch?" She whispered to Mark who was doubled over on the floor, then she stepped back.

"Thank you, Mr. Sawyer. You don't know how much that meant to me".

The rapid personality switch made Ethan laugh. He was going to like this one.

Jerome was impressed by her courage. Most people would have just followed instructions meekly, but she was different, and she had potential to grow in terms of strength. He eyed her hungrily as he thought about just how dangerous she could be if she were trained right.

"Wipe that drool off your face, it's disgusting, " Ethan's second bodyguard, Richie said with a look of pure disdain. Richie was Ethan's second in command and even though he couldn't beat Jerome in terms of raw strength, his skills, and smarts were more than enough to make up for it.

He rarely smiled and hated going outside except when he was on a job. So, when Ethan had dragged him out to a bar filled with people, his irritation only grew the longer they stayed there, but if there was something right about this day, it was the cunning that this seemingly meek girl had displayed.

"He's probably thinking about training the lady. You know how much dumbbells turn him on" This came from Seth, Richie's 'twin' brother. They'd met at an orphanage and since then, they were inseparable. It was always shocking to hear that they were brothers because they not only looked nothing alike, they also behaved entirely differently.

Seth was the polar opposite of Richie and the most approachable of the three, but that didn't make him any less dangerous. If there was one thing the three had in common, it was their undying loyalty to Ethan.

"Is that supposed to be funny?" Jerome asked with a sneer, and Seth immediately raised his hands up in surrender.

"Nope. It's just, you look like you have a lot of sex on treadmills".

Jerome growled slowly and Seth responded with a smirk, but a sharp glare from Richie stopped them from going any further.

They all left the pub with Mark still doubled over and groaning, and got into the car waiting to take them home.

Leah stared with her mouth agape at how lavish the inside of the limo was.

Ethan had gone ahead of them in his Bugatti, so Leah was left alone with the bodyguards in the limo.

Jerome was driving and Richie had ridden shotgun, so she was alone with Seth at the back.

"So, drool much?" Seth asked with a smirk, and Leah immediately wiped her mouth with the sleeve of her blouse. She then focused on Seth and studied him for the first time.

Even as he sat, she could tell he was tall, and very attractive. She imagined that he probably got a lot of attention from the ladies. But she'd already begun to fall for Ethan. The man who'd rescued her from that hellhole. It felt as if she was dreaming.

"Sorry" she said, after regaining her composure.

"Nah, it's alright. Ethan's possessions have that effect on people. And you, my dear, is an excellent addition".

"Um... Thank you?"

Disregarding the fact that Seth had just implied that she was mere property, Leah didn't fail to notice how Seth called Ethan by his first name.

"So, are you and Mr. Sawyer close?"

"Hmm?" Seth asked as he cocked an eyebrow.

"I'm sorry if that was intrusive" Leah apologized immediately, looking down at the ground

Seth didn't reply immediately, instead he just stared at her as if trying to read her.

"Well, you could say that"

"Huh?"

"He let us act casual around him, but lately, there's been a lot of tension in his life, so he's been pretty closed off lately"

"Oh"

Chapter 3 Three

As they drove to her new home, Leah learnt that Ethan and the twins were all in their early thirties, Jerome was a retired soldier who was obsessed with working out, Ethan had adopted the twins to work for him when they were teenagers and in danger of separation and 'Richie I'll probably break your fingers for looking at him wrong'

Meanwhile on his way home, Ethan suddenly remembered the two morons he'd asked to stay back at the bar and shrugged. He was in a slightly better mood anyway.

While back at the bar, Edmond and Reggie were conflicted as to whether he'd really forgotten about them or he was just messing with them

"Hey Eddie, I think we should get moving" Reggie suggested to his friend

"Fuck no man. I'm not risking it, that guy's a fucking monster" Edmond said as he settled more into his chair

Mark still lay on the floor, seemingly paralyzed with shock from the pain.

Suddenly, the limo pulled to a stop and Seth ushered Leah out the door.

Leah squinted her eyes as she tried to get used to the sun outside after being inside the dimly lit limo for a while.

Seeing the mansion in front of her took her breath away. She literally choked on her breath, trying to comprehend just how one person could afford this.

There were no words that could accurately describe the beauty of the mansion standing tall in front of her

"You should see the inside before you run out of saliva" Seth said beside her, making her jump a little

She ignored him and followed the other two up to the front doors.

Jerome just pushed open the doors and they entered inside with Leah following suit.

Richie made a beeline for the stairs, while Jerome went towards what was probably the kitchen.

Leah heard voices and laughter from the kitchen and soon after an elderly woman came out.

She looked Mexican and when she saw the both of them, she flashed a bright smile

"You must be Leah, the new girl. Come, follow me". She had a thick accent and an air of authority which vaguely reminded Leah of Ethan.

"Aw, no welcome hug for me?" Seth asked feigning a hurt look

The lady just rolled her eyes as she looked at him with a raised eyebrow in amusement.

What's with these people and their eyebrows?

"Did you get me anything?"

"Well..."

"Then you get nothing from me"

Seth gasped dramatically as he placed his hand over his chest.

"I thought our love was forever"

"Don't mind him . Come on, I'll show you to your room"

"It's okay, just leave me alone. It's my fault for loving too much"Seth continued, dedicated to his role of the abandoned lover

They climbed the stairs as Maria, the old lady introduced herself to Leah and explained to her how things worked in the mansion.

"So, can you cook?"

"Um, no"

"What? Why?

~~

The rest of the time in the kitchen went by smoothly with Maria giving Leah instructions and Leah carrying them out. Seth snuck in a few times and tried to taste the food but he was always caught and chased by Maria who was having none of that.

When dinner was finally ready, Seth and Leah set the table and the food was dished out.

Everyone gathered at the dinner table except Ethan who was absent.

"Where's Ethan?" Maria asked, looking disappointed.

"He says he's not eating tonight" Richie replied with a blank look on his face

"Nonsense, he hasn't eaten all day" Maria scoffed at the information she'd just received.

"I can take his food to him" Leah suggested

"If you're so desperate to leave this world" Richie warned without looking up from his food

"Are you sure about that, mija?" Maria asked looking genuinely worried

"Of course, I can handle it" Leah reassured her

"Alright then, just knock and leave the food at the door, okay?"

Leah nodded at her

"Where is his room?"

"It's the one opposite yours"

"Huh?" Leah's heart skipped a beat as she learnt that Ethan was much closer to her than she expected

She picked the food off the table and made her way to Ethan's bedroom.

Before she knew it, she was in front of his door. She inhaled deeply as she tried to calm her jittery nerves and knocked at the door

"Mr. Sawyer?" She called, but there was no response. Completely ignoring the instruction to leave the food by the door, she gave the door a gentle nudge and it opened

For a crime boss, he sure is careless

Leah grimaced at how dark the room was. After fumbling for a while, she gave up on trying to locate the light switch and squinted her eyes as she made her way to his bed.

She dropped the food at the bedside table and turned to wake him up.

But before she knew it, she was on the bed in a chokehold.

Ethan was over her with his hands wrapped tightly around her neck.

She choked as she repeatedly hit his hands in an attempt to free herself, but he was way too strong.

"What are you doing here?" Ethan asked. He'd just woken up so his voice was raspy and it made Leah moist in her nether regions. She fought the urge to beg Ethan to take her right there, as she was in a life or death situation

"Ma..ria... food" Leah wheezed, trying desperately to explain herself.

Ethan released her just enough so that she was able to breathe. Leah gasped and took deep breaths, savoring her ability to breathe again

"What?" He asked again

"Maria.. sh-she asked me to bring your food to you

"Did Richie tell you I wasn't eating tonight?"

"Yes, but-"

"So why'd you think you could just waltz in here and tell me what to do, huh?"

"I-I'm sorry-"

Ethan leaned closer to her and her breath got caught in her throat

"Now listen very carefully. The next time I find you in here, I'll make Mark look like a good guy" Ethan threatened in a low voice which didn't help Leah's flooding juices.
